12 Best Hotels in Bayeux

Bayeux wears its history with remarkable grace. While the world knows it for the legendary tapestry, this Norman town offers far more than a single artifact. Its cobbled lanes, half-timbered houses, and the towering medieval cathedral create an atmosphere that feels suspended in time.

Choosing the right base is essential to absorbing the region’s unique rhythm. Whether you are here to dissect the events of 1066, explore the D-Day landing beaches, or simply sample the local Calvados, your accommodation shapes the experience. The hospitality scene here ranges from intimate family-run guesthouses to grand historic manors.

Because the town is compact, staying within the historic center places you steps away from evening strolls along the Aure river. However, the surrounding countryside offers a tranquil alternative with lush gardens and pastoral views. Many properties also serve as excellent launchpads for the wider Normandy region.

We have evaluated properties based on location, character, service quality, and historical significance. The goal is to match every type of traveler with a stay that feels tailored to their needs. From romantic retreats to practical family bases, Bayeux delivers with distinctive Norman flair.

This curated selection prioritizes authentic experiences over generic luxury. We look at the details that matter: the quality of the breakfast, the comfort of the bedding, and the knowledge of the hosts. A great hotel here should feel like an extension of the town’s storied past.

Below is our definitive guide to the finest places to stay in this remarkable corner of France. Each option offers a unique lens through which to view the region.

The hotel is in a great location, with most attractions and restaurants within walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Unfortunately, my room door did not latch properly unless it was pushed shut forcefully. On my first night, a drunk naked guest accidentally entered my room and later urinated in the elevator. While the room was cleaned afterward, I was not offered a different room and had to remain there for the rest of my stay. The rooms do not have air conditioning, only a fan with a timer that shuts off during the night, making it uncomfortable to sleep. The bathroom soap dispenser also leaked continuously and got my personal items dirty. Considering the room rate, the value simply wasn't there. I stayed here for business, but I would not choose this hotel for personal travel. I was also told my receipt would be emailed after checkout, but I have yet to receive it. Overall, an average experience with a good location and friendly staff, but several issues prevented it from being a better stay.

Hotel is nice. It’s 3 star so rooms are basic. But we were happy with it. Comfy beds. The breakfast was plentiful and very nice with a good stocked selection. Location is absolutely perfect. In the town but surprisingly quiet. Bar was good. Nice area to socialise with other guests. What sets this hotel apart from many others are the excellent staff and they customer service they give . We felt very welcome and ALL the staff were always happy to help. I had brought my father to tour Normandy on the hottest days on record in June !!! 40c on the day we arrived…and although there is no air conditioning in the rooms (it’s an old building so that’s understandable) the staff had put extra fans and cold water in our room. My only small gripe is the cost of the car park which I feel is a little bit expensive for what it is…but to be fair the costs are well advertised on the booking advert..so I knew what it would be. So glad we booked our stay here and I would happily recommend this hotel for anyone. Thanks for an excellent 7 night stay.

I really like having an empty mini frig in the room, hair conditioner and unless I wasn't doing it correctly, a hair dryer that I dont have to press the whole time. Other than those nit picky things- I loved my stay for 4 nights there. Location was perfect, staff was attentive and professional. Fluent English. Great suggestions . I was solo and a couple times went down to the small friendly bar just for a diet coke or a passable fast cook meal. It was open to the public but, delightfully for the guests- was more of a place to hang for people before going up to their rooms. They also have on site a facility that was, until it lost its director a full spa but now for ( I think 25euros) you can use their spa facilities. That was a real perk for me. Bring your bathing suity. I REALLY recommend this place. PLUS an FYI- literally across the street is a quaint movie theatre- only with films in French, so for those fluent- enjoy!!

We actually booked a year in advance by accident but accomdated us. We had our previous hotel cancelled at last minute but this hotel was beautiful and close to everything in Bordeaux. Kids enjoyed the pool and we could experience what Bordeaux was like. Beautiful rooms and service was excellent.

We had a good stay overall, but the handling of the breakfast was disappointing. The night before, we asked if breakfast was included and were clearly told that it was. We confirmed this again the next morning and received the same answer. After having breakfast, we were then informed that it was not included and were charged for it. Given the information we were provided twice, we believe the hotel should have honored what was communicated to us. Clear and consistent communication is essential to avoid this kind of situation for future guests

Great value hotel conveniently placed for visiting Bayeux. Cathedral etc is 10 minute walk at most. Secure parking which was perfect for the motorcycle. Rooms all modern and well equipped. Great value compared to other hotels in the area. Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. Good quality items included in the breakfast. Will definitely use again if visiting Bayeux.

10 min walk from center , good location. Clean room, but small. Would be much better to have EV charging . General good value for money.

Stayed for an over nighter and couldn't really fault it. Very clean, up to date hotel. Being critical the breakfast was probably quite minimal but it was absolutely ample.

Don't stay in room 216. It was very hot the week prior and the air conditioning was blowing but did not work. I compared it with my families other two units and there was a big difference. We were very hot and uncomfortable all night and did not sleep which interupted our plans the next day. I took this up with the hotel management and at first they said they would have it looked at while we were gone, but when I followed up they said there was no mechanic to look at it and to talk with the manager the next morning. the manager the following morning just denied it wasn't working and dismissed me! At that point it was a very cool morning and we had the window open. When paying a lot for a good experience this is unacceptable and unfortunate. Being dismissed by the staff was not good customer service.

Our room was fine but another member of our party ,their AC wasn't working. The first night they stayed in the room ,they were sweating all night and any sleep they got was of the worst quality. The next morning, they talked to the front desk about it, and the employees asked for permission to enter the room while we were sightseeing to fix it. That evening, they said there are no repairmen available on the weekends(it was now Saturday night) and showed them a room with one less bed that they could move to, which they did not want to do. So, they gave them a fan and that did infact help, but they also had to remove the duvet out of its cover and remove the plastic cover on the mattress. In the morning, after opening the window, they confronted the front desk about it and the lady said she would check the room but the window was open now so that cooled the room, so she said "see, it's working" but the night before was when the window was shut and it was hot so checking it at that time was useless. In the end, the hotel did nothing about it, saying that because it was booked through booking.com their hands were tied, as far as a refund or discount.

Overal an exceptional Campanile to visit. We spent 5 nights and enjoyed every minute. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Waiter and waitress were very hospitable and the Chef was clearly 1st class with delicious meals created and a varied choice available from a changeable menu. Chambermaid kept our room clean and replenished during our stay, 1st class all round.

Nice location with parking on site. Restaurant with good food for lunch and dinner. Rooms with simple standard, good beds but lacks storage and clothes hooks. Extremely warm rooms, the air condition cant cope with warm weather. Breakfast buffe simple but ok. Very friendly and serviceminded staff.

Excellent location and very clean rooms, comfortable bed. Big carpark on site. Welcoming staff and a restaurant onsite. Meals and breakfast was great. Walking distance 5mins to Bayeux centre and a good base for surrounding visitor attractions. Have used before and will continue to use. Highly, highly recommend.

Basic hotel that is ideal for visit not requiring hotel amenities - excellent price - 10 minute walk to train station, 15 minutes to downtown Bayeux - exterior entrance next to farm and horse breeder - good (not great) breakfast - room was clean, quiet, good bathroom / shower, no issues at all

Handily placed just outside Bayeux (15 mins by car). Secure site, gate (not just a barrier) closed after 23.00 and access via intercom. Staff very pleasant and helpful, rooms basic (no kettle - vending machine in lobby, no hairdryer but is available on request from reception) but comfortable and clean. Breakfast buffet kept well stocked with yoghurt, fruit, cereals, bread, cheese and cold meats, pastries and tea and coffee. Never ran out despite the hotel being quite full. Recommended and would stay again.

We stayed here for one night on 27/9/2025 Ibis budgets can be a bit hit and miss, the basic formular is the same, small hotel room with a double and sometimes a bed over, small bathroom and a basic breakfast. Sometimes this works really well, other not so much so, but on this occasion it definitely did work very well. The receptionist was pleasant efficient and helpful, the room was clean and in good condition. The breakfast was also good. Plus the restaurant next door (Courtepaille Bayeux) was good, but I would suggest ringing and booking in advance as it was busy the night we stayed (it appears popular with locals). I’d happily recommend the hotel and will return if I need an overnight stop in the region.

Booked this hotel for five nights with breakfast, whilst touring the area war museums on my motorcycle. It’s super easy to find , well located to getting to the area beaches and museums. The hotel is very clean , tidy along with the room. Comfortable bed, good shower. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

I have stayed in many Ibis Budget but this is my favourite. Located off the motorway but very quiet. Always spotlessly clean. Next door to a nice restaurant, reasonably priced food and drinks. Lots of choice for breakfast. Most of all very friendly staff. They also have secure parking.

Hotel room had excellent bed and shower, but room only big enough for two small people! Parking no problem but not close to Bayeux. Staff busy and helpful when approached, but not welcoming

We had a wonderful stay here. For reference, we were a family of four — my husband and me, along with our two sons (ages 18 and 21). Our sons stayed in a standard room with two twin beds, which was located in the main hotel building. The room was quite small with limited space to move around, but honestly, it worked perfectly for them since we spent most of our time out sightseeing and they mainly used it for sleeping. Our room was a larger suite located across the street from the main building in a lovely area with a courtyard. It had a very comfortable king-size bed and plenty of space. Both rooms were clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. Be aware, the hotel does not have any elevators and our room had many flights of stairs to take our luggage up. While we were able to manage it, some may not, so please be aware. The location of the hotel is excellent — right in the heart of Bayeux and within easy walking distance of restaurants, bakeries, shops, and other sights. It is also about a 15-minute walk from the Bayeux train station. We booked a tour of the WWII D-Day sites, and the shuttle pickup location was just around the corner from the hotel, which was very convenient. We truly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay here again if we return to Bayeux.

We were very pleased with our stay. The staff were welcoming and helpful. the room was spacious and perfectly appointed. my only suggestion is to have clearer directions for parking. I found a lot Gare de Bayeaux Longues Duree after some difficulty. lot was perfect. Free for one day and 5 euro daily afterward
Shannon Bacon★★★★★
Staff carried my luggage up steps in annex and were very helpful and friendly the entire stay. Spacious, comfortable room. Enjoyed opening the window and hearing the doves. Meal at restaurant was good. Loved the central location for walking the town of Bayeaux. Only thing that was a pain was parking the rental car. I would choose a hotel that covered parking in a close lot next time.
Jill Rendeiro★★★★☆
Great location. Very close to shops, restaurants, cathedral and tour meeting place. We happened to stay during a pretty intense heat wave. I had been careful when booking to make sure the room had air conditioning. We were on the second floor of the annex. There was indeed AC but it really wasn't very good. Much better than not having it at all, but the room was uncomfortably warm and humid for us at night. The room itself was spacious and very nice with a comfortable bed. Swapping out the ridiculously small safe for something that fits a laptop or tablet would be nice. We understood we couldn't check in until 3 but didn't realize that there would be no one to talk to about leaving luggage before then. Once it was 3 pm we were checked in and helped with our luggage, which was very much appreciated. As other reviews mentioned, parking is not easy. We got a spot in a lot more than half a mile away, which at 95 degrees was not ideal. Breakfast was very nice - lots of choices and well prepared. We had dinner there one night and were pleasantly surprised by the very nice food and service.

Small rooms and bathroom. Don’t bring too many suitcases! Great service. Staff are very friendly. Great location to walk to shops, church, military museum and restaurants. Next door to great food and drinks. The mussels were fabulous!

My daughter and I stayed in this charming hotel. It is tastefully decorated, clean, and comfy. The owners are so thoughtful and welcoming. I hope to return one day. In the meantime, I will fondly remember our short stay.

Beware this hotel only opens during specific hours. There is a sign on the door stating that it is open from 5-10pm. If you arrive with your luggage before then, you have to drag it with you around Bayeux until the hotel opens. Rooms are comfy and basic. Small packets of shampoo/body wash supplied. Hair dryer in bathroom. Tea kettle in the room. Breakfast was croissant with cold meat and cheese. Coffee was dispensed out of a machine. You have to let the owners know if you will take breakfast the night before. You can’t just show up. The owners were very nice. It’s an excellent location. Just 1/2 block from the Main Street in Bayeux.

We had a terrific stay at Hotel Declic. The service was excellent. Very helpful and kind. The room was bigger than expected. Nice setup, comfortable beds and a pretty view. The location is excellent. We walked all over Bayeux. Having free parking close by was also great. We had the breakfast and in addition to the yummy food, it’s a beautiful indoor terrace where you can enjoy and meet other travellers. They even brought in gluten free bread for me. Highly recommend!

Great location in the center of Bayeux. Friendly and helpful hosts, highly recommended. If You are planning to see Omaha and Utah beach memorials, it is a short drive from the hotel.

We spent two nights at this hotel, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The interior is decorated with a unique and artistic eye—you’ll keep discovering charming little design details everywhere you look. There’s also a small, lovely back terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast surrounded by flowers. Our room was exceptionally clean and tidy, and everything worked perfectly. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The location of the hotel is simply perfect. But what truly sets this place apart isn’t just the beautiful space or the practical amenities—it’s the warmth, thoughtfulness, and genuine hospitality of the owners. It’s clear that they run their boutique hotel with love and care, doing everything they can to make guests feel welcome and at home. Their passion is evident in every little detail. I will definitely be coming back. Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We stayed in this lovely historical hotel for one night during our Bayeux visit. It’s located in the center of the city. Easy walk from the train station and to shops, cafes and restaurants. The room we had (got a bigger room) was spacious and full of character. As others mentioned, this hotel does not have AC (so are most hotels in Bayeux) but on a typically “summer” day in Normandy it is nice and cool enough to enjoy the breeze through the window with a portable fan. Also visited the bar where many historical figures visited and left their signatures. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only pity was the restaurant was closed on Mondays so we didn’t get a chance to have dinner there. Heard it was pretty good.

Such a beautiful hotel - and very well placed in the centre of the city. The rooms are very comfortable- very big - and nicely heated. The breakfast was really good too, lots of fruit which was perfect for me. The bar downstairs is really interesting- many signed pictures on the wall of those guests who have stayed. Very nice to see. It’s also super close to the train station - you can even walk it from here
Bob L★★★☆☆
The hotel shows lots of wear and, while they are renovating some of the hallways, the rooms need upgrades as well. There were stains on the carpet, the furniture was dated and room was incredibly small. The worst part of our stay, however, was the heat. We knew the hotel had no air conditioning, but took a chance since we were going in May. Enter an unusually hot May and we were miserable every night as the rooms were sweltering with no way to cool them down. (The little fan they provided did nothing.) That's not the hotel's fault since they state they have no A/C, but it is a reason to consider staying at one of the air conditioned hotels in the area instead. On the plus side, the bar is a great area to gather and meet people and the bartender was excellent. Breakfast was pretty good, but not exceptional. Location is terrific.
Tabetha Holt★★☆☆☆
First the good. The location and exterior look of that hotel were amazing. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Breakfast our first morning was amazing. However, breakfast our second morning was not as good. Strange how inconsistent the food was only 24 hours apart. Now for tbt bad: The bathroom in our room had visible mold and smelled unclean. It was also extremely hot in the rooms although the lobby and bar were cool. Note that this hotel does not have a/c in the rooms so be mindful of this if booking in the summer. Parking is limited and cars are packed in. You’ll want to account for this and add time whenever coming and going if you do choose to park on property. We’ll likely look for a different hotel the next time we come.
Kirk grant★★★★★
Reception lady when we checked in late evening was fantastic and helpful. Parking is at a premium so having reserved parking there was great. We had all day tour the next day and she let us leave car there until 5:30 pm when we returned. We checked out in the early am reception lady not quite as friendly. Breakfast was good (typical continental with cook your own eggs, bread, croissants etc)

A beautifully maintained hotel with secure parking (great for motorbikes). The hotel is right in the middle of Bayeux and easy to find. There's no dinner restaurant at the hotel but there are many restaurants only a few minutes away. Inside was spotlessly clean and well set out. My room was gorgeous. Lots of home comforts and very large. The staff were great and breakfast was delicious. All at a fair price. Can't find a fault.

Excellent location, but more importantly, SECURE and roomy parking for our rental car. The staff was unbelievably friendly and helpful at all times. I booked well in advance to our visit to Normandy, directly through the hotel, which was much preferred for all the questions I had. Etienne, the manager, was extremely gracious and patient. I'm a very particular traveler, and this hotel fulfilled and surpassed all my expectations. Well done!
Deb Corder★★★★★
Love this little hotel. I had a great room with a comfortable bed. The location is great - just a block of the main street. The breakfast was very good. My tours picked up at this hotel so it was very convenient. Taxi to the train was $8-10. I didn't use the pool or spa but it looked like a very nice pool. Highly recommend this property.
Francesco Morescalchi★★★★★
We stayed for three days; the location is beautiful—convenient for the city center and close to free public parking. Excellent service and wonderful rooms. P.S. A tip from an Italian to non-Italians: install a bidet in your bathrooms. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Room were clean and spacious, however we arrived in the middle of a heatwave and unfortunately there is no air conditioning. Fans were provided, but it was still very warm. Temperature went down after a couple of days and then all was good. Staff are all fluent in English and were so accommodating and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel for the cooler months of the year.

Staff have all been excellent. Well situated for the restaurants and bars, but still a very quiet location. Room is quite small, but a very big en-suite wet room. Room is air conditioned which is working very well in mid summer. Limited parking , you will need to reserve in advance. There is a pay and display car park less than 100m from the hotel.

I have read the other reviews and I can imagine them being true. We were lucky enough to have had a good experience at the hotel. The manager worked hard to make our group happy and accommodated. I thought the AC and the bathrooms were great. Our bed was comfy. My group of 50 shared no complaints about functionality of the hotel. The breakfast was lovely. We experienced good service while there. We had a bus and no cars. The "key" room keys were kind of silly and yes our group struggled to master locking and unlocking the doors, but in a funny way not in a freak out way. I thought the place was well located, charming, and attentive. Plus you could buy snacks in the lobby which is always a plus. It is in a quiet street which was nice at night. And the shade over the skylight kept the room DARK even in the am which was great for jetlagged sleep!! I feel bad for those who had a bad experience, but I would definitely book this hotel on a return visit.
John Abbott★★★★★
The location is comforting and right next to the center of town. We got amazing service when we there, and some of the best staff. Had great breakfast with many options to choose from. The room was good only lacked some amenities and was a little small, but other than that it was amazing! Gets you feeling like you’re really in France and the best hotel in town.
Elizabeth Larsen★★☆☆☆
The location of this hotel is perfect, it is in within a minute walk of the center of town. The staff was also very nice but overwhelmed. It is my understanding the hotel is under new ownership since November 2025. This may have once been a three star hotel, but needs work to stay a three star hotel. The rooms are accessible via old school lock and key. The key must be used to lock the door from both the inside and outside. The locks are not easy to use and pose quite a fire hazard, especially since it took a few minutes of jiggling the locks to open the door. Cocktail menus were posted at the front desk and in the rooms, but when asked for wine or a drink, we were told were that the menus should not be out as drinks were not available under the current management. We are left a bit baffled as to why that information was posted. We did opt for the breakfast buffet. It was small with some baked goods, a quiche, scrambled eggs, bacon, and of course breads, cheeses, and yogurt. The baked goods were very tasty, but there were not enough eggs and bacon to go around. The coffee maker was an issue. It was not able to handle the amount of guests that wanted coffee and a staff member ended up providing hot water and instant coffee for the morning coffee. In my opinion, this is now a 2 star hotel for service and amenities. However the rooms were clean and the water was hot, even though the towels were thread bare.
Sheri Zielinski★☆☆☆☆
Stated two nights, to our misfortune. The hotel is in a good spot— that’s the plus. The family room we had was dated and felt…icky I guess is the best word. The whole place felt very dark and dank compared to the photos. They advertise A/C, but it did NOT work. They said it takes a while to really work. Readers, it did not. The room never got cool and fans weren’t available. My husband ended up taking three cold showers just to try to cool off. Friends stayed at the Belle Normandy and man, was I jealous. Just. No.

Our stay at the Churchill Hotel in Bayeux was exceptional from beginning to end. The entire staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We were especially touched when they surprised us by decorating our room in honor of our honeymoon—it was such a thoughtful gesture that made our stay even more memorable. Everyone we encountered was genuinely warm, friendly, and eager to help. It was obvious that the staff takes great pride in providing outstanding service and ensuring every guest has a wonderful experience. Our room was renovated, well-appointed, and serviced daily with fresh towels, making it a very comfortable place to return to after a day of sightseeing. We also chose the breakfast upgrade each morning, and it was absolutely worth it. The selection was delicious, and the waitstaff greeted us each morning with friendly smiles and excellent service. The location of this hotel simply can’t be beat. It sits right on Bayeux’s main street, within easy walking distance of wonderful restaurants, pastry shops, bars, museums, and all of the town’s major attractions. There’s also a well-stocked grocery store right next door, which was incredibly convenient for snacks, drinks, and anything else we needed during our stay. The rates were also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the accommodations and service. If you’re driving, parking can require a little advance planning, but don’t let that deter you. We researched the nearby public parking options before arriving and had no trouble finding free parking within about a five-minute walk of the hotel each day. We truly cannot recommend the Churchill Hotel highly enough. If we return to Bayeux, there is no question where we’ll stay.

We had a lovely stay at the Hotel Churchill in Bayeux. The location was perfectly located in the center of the town, the staff was very friendly and our room was quite comfortable. We had the breakfast buffet that was well worth the price just for the fresh orange juice alone! We unfortunately only stayed for one night, but now I know where to stay when I inevitably come back!

Recommend staying here! We were fortunate enough to have air-conditioning during the heat wave. The staff is amazing and want to make your stay as Comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. Location is perfect for exploring the city with a grocery store, basically right outside the door and a pharmacy across the street.

This hotel is dare I say 'charming'. It is an old house that is very tastefully decorated. The lobby opens into a dining room where breakfast is served. The dining area is off to the side. Bedrooms are upstairs and adequately sized and very clean. The staff is extraordinary and there for all of your needs. It is well situated to be able to walk the town which is equally as charming.

Charming Stay in Bayeux We had a delightful experience at this B&B. The location couldn’t be better—perfectly situated for exploring Bayeux and the surrounding Normandy sites, yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful and secure. Getting in and out was simple and safe, which made our stay stress-free. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and offered a lovely view that made mornings feel extra special. The owner was wonderfully friendly and welcoming, adding a personal touch that made us feel right at home. Breakfast was just what we needed to start the day—fresh, satisfying, and a great way to fuel up before sightseeing. Overall, this B&B combines convenience, comfort, and genuine hospitality. A fantastic choice for anyone visiting the area.

I stayed at Le Castel in April 2025. After an initial misunderstanding about payment method (they do not accept Amex), they reached out to me and we arranged to pay again with a Visa card. I subsequently discovered that my Visa card had been charged twice. Despite many attempts to contact them about this via email and phone, including having my sister who is fluent in French write to them, they have completely ignored me.

This historical home with guest rooms was a close distance (10 min walk) to the train station which was convenient. An easy walk to the beautiful church and also local shops and restaurants. The bed was comfortable, room was very clean, bathroom was large, and breakfast was nice and tasty - whole fruits, yogurt, breads, pastry, cheese, coffee/tea/juice. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner/etc. We would stay here again and we recommend Le Castel guest house.

Spent three nights in this exceedingly comfortable and friendly Normandy mansion. The host speaks very good English and a fabulous breakfast. The beds were very comfortable a little more on the firm side. They provided you with multiple allergy, free pillows, soft or hard as well as additional blankets so if you think a down comforter is too hot, you can have a thinner but comfortable choice. I prefer to sleep with the fan and they offered several portable fans, which were fabulous. The showers were enclosed with great water pressure. We had a mini fridge in our room. The heated towel rack was always on. We had a large dual sink with plenty of space for toiletries. Our private deck had a magnificent view of the cathedral on which we enjoyed drinking our subpar French beer. The location made walking to fabulous restaurants very convenient. There is free parking diagonally across the street and if that lot is full, there is a gigantic lot almost behind this hotel with more than enough parking for just a small fee. The setting as well as the breakfast in the morning would make this a return stay if I’m ever back in this area. The rooms are more than spacious and we were traveling with our young son, they provided a very comfortable roll away single bed for 25 euros a night.

Pros: It's about a 20 minute walk from the train station which wasn't too bad but if you have large suitcases or mobility issues you will probably want to take the bus or a taxi. It is in a great location with a 1-2 minute walk to the heart of Bayeaux. Wonderful shops and cafe's to explore. Cons: The street noise at night was Extremely Loud with vehicle traffic. Like most European hotels there is no air conditioning and we visited in late June so we had to keep the windows open to try and cool the room down. We had to choose between sweltering hot or listening to the street noise so we kept the windows open and tried to ignore the noise. Odd quirk about the room was that the toilet was on the main floor but the sink was on the second floor so you had to walk up a flight of stairs to wash your hands etc. Overall not a bad room but also nothing spectacular. If you visit in the summer you may want to stay somewhere else that is off the main drag and a bit quieter when the windows are open. If you visit in cooler months then this is a great option. As for Bayeaux... it's a must visit! It is beautiful with wonderful and friendly people.

Overall it was a great stay! We typically stay at chains, typically Hilton as we have status, as we know what to expect but Bayeux didn't have many. As a family of 5 it is hard finding space for out family. Booked studio suite which sleeps 6. Nice to have kitchenette although we didn't cook. Microwave and fridge were nice to have. Didn't realize that no soap or shampoo and this was the first I didn't pack but a quick walk to pharmacy solved that. Really needed one more set of towels and 1 pillow but not a deal breaker. Hotel was super quiet and reminded me of the older ones in the French quarter in New Orleans. Quick walk to heart of Bayeux. We loved the location! Quick takeaway.. super clean, fabulous location and an amazing welcoming host.

The hotel is cute, it’s in a great location, close to the cathedral. They have VERY limited check in hours so don’t make the mistake we made by showing up at 1pm and having to wait until exactly 4pm to check in. Thankfully after a couple phone calls we were able to leave our bags in a seating area. The room we had Room 12 was larger than I expected and had a cute view of the neighbouring homes. You do not get any bathroom essentials other than a bar of soap. Beds were comfortable and the room was surprisingly tuned over while we were out on a tour so that was a nice bonus.

Essential Tips for Choosing Your Stay in Bayeux

Selecting the right accommodation can dramatically enhance your visit to Normandy. Bayeux is a town where ambiance matters, and the difference between a good trip and a great one often lies in the details of your lodging. Understanding the local geography and the nature of these establishments will help you make an informed decision that aligns with your travel style.

Book well in advance for the summer season. Normandy is incredibly popular from June through August, and the anniversary of D-Day in early June sees the town completely sold out. If you plan to visit during these peak times, securing your room three to six months ahead is not excessive.

Prioritize on-site parking if you are driving. While the center is walkable, the narrow medieval streets can be challenging for vehicles. Many central hotels do not have private lots, requiring you to use public parking on the periphery. If you have heavy luggage or plan day trips to the beaches, a hotel with dedicated parking is a significant asset.

Confirm the air conditioning situation. Due to the historic nature of many buildings and the generally mild Norman climate, not all hotels are equipped with air conditioning. While rarely an issue most of the year, heatwaves are becoming more common in July and August. If you are sensitive to heat, verify this amenity before booking.

Understand the difference between a "hotel" and a "chambre d’hôtes." Bayeux is famous for its bed and breakfasts (chambres d’hôtes). These often provide a more personal, immersive experience with hosts who are deeply knowledgeable about the region. However, they may lack the 24-hour front desk service of a traditional hotel.

Check the breakfast offering. A proper Norman breakfast can be a highlight of the day, featuring local cheeses, fresh baguettes, and pastries. Some rates include a buffet, while others charge a premium for a simple continental plate. Knowing what is included helps you budget accurately and avoid overpaying for a meal you could find cheaper at a local boulangerie.

Choosing Bayeux as your base is a decision you will not regret. The town offers a serene, sophisticated atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the bustling energy of larger cities like Caen. After a day spent exploring the emotional landscapes of Omaha Beach or the architectural wonder of Mont-Saint-Michel, returning to the quiet elegance of Bayeux feels like a warm welcome home.

Ultimately, the best hotel is the one that aligns with your personal rhythm. Whether you choose a regal château on the outskirts or a cozy room overlooking the cathedral spires, the hospitality of Normandy will leave a lasting impression. Take your time, review your priorities, and prepare for an unforgettable journey into French history.
