12 Best Cheap Hotels in Bayeux

Finding affordable accommodation in Bayeux does not mean you have to sacrifice comfort, charm, or a prime location. As the historic gateway to the D-Day landing beaches and home to the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry, this picturesque Norman town attracts visitors from across the globe. While boutique hotels and high-end châteaux are abundant, the local hospitality scene also includes a fantastic selection of budget-friendly options that offer exceptional value for money.

Staying in a cheap hotel here often provides a more authentic and intimate experience than larger chain properties. Many of the most affordable establishments are family-run, offering personalized service and a warm welcome that makes you feel like a local rather than a tourist. These hotels frequently occupy historic stone buildings, blending old-world character with the essential modern amenities needed for a comfortable stay.

Choosing a budget hotel in Bayeux places you right in the heart of the action without the hefty price tag. The town center is remarkably compact and walkable, meaning a lower-cost room just outside the medieval core is often only a five or ten-minute stroll from the cathedral, the tapestry museum, and the bustling Saturday market. This accessibility allows you to reallocate your travel budget toward guided tours, museum entries, and sampling the region’s rich culinary heritage.

The definition of "cheap" in Bayeux generally falls within a reasonable range, especially when compared to larger French cities like Paris or Nice. You can expect to find clean, cozy rooms with private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and often a traditional French breakfast available for a small supplement. Many of these properties also offer free or low-cost parking, a significant advantage if you are exploring Normandy by car.

When reviewing the best cheap hotels, we considered more than just the nightly rate. We evaluated the overall value proposition, including location, cleanliness, guest reviews, and the quality of the hospitality provided. A low price is only a good deal if the bed is comfortable, the room is quiet, and the staff is helpful, ensuring you are well-rested for a day of exploring history.

Whether you are a solo backpacker tracing the footsteps of history, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a family embarking on an educational adventure, there is an affordable bed waiting for you. Here is our curated guide to the best cheap hotels in Bayeux that prove you can experience the magic of Normandy without breaking the bank.

Great value hotel conveniently placed for visiting Bayeux. Cathedral etc is 10 minute walk at most. Secure parking which was perfect for the motorcycle. Rooms all modern and well equipped. Great value compared to other hotels in the area. Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. Good quality items included in the breakfast. Will definitely use again if visiting Bayeux.

10 min walk from center , good location. Clean room, but small. Would be much better to have EV charging . General good value for money.

Stayed for an over nighter and couldn't really fault it. Very clean, up to date hotel. Being critical the breakfast was probably quite minimal but it was absolutely ample.

Don't stay in room 216. It was very hot the week prior and the air conditioning was blowing but did not work. I compared it with my families other two units and there was a big difference. We were very hot and uncomfortable all night and did not sleep which interupted our plans the next day. I took this up with the hotel management and at first they said they would have it looked at while we were gone, but when I followed up they said there was no mechanic to look at it and to talk with the manager the next morning. the manager the following morning just denied it wasn't working and dismissed me! At that point it was a very cool morning and we had the window open. When paying a lot for a good experience this is unacceptable and unfortunate. Being dismissed by the staff was not good customer service.

Our room was fine but another member of our party ,their AC wasn't working. The first night they stayed in the room ,they were sweating all night and any sleep they got was of the worst quality. The next morning, they talked to the front desk about it, and the employees asked for permission to enter the room while we were sightseeing to fix it. That evening, they said there are no repairmen available on the weekends(it was now Saturday night) and showed them a room with one less bed that they could move to, which they did not want to do. So, they gave them a fan and that did infact help, but they also had to remove the duvet out of its cover and remove the plastic cover on the mattress. In the morning, after opening the window, they confronted the front desk about it and the lady said she would check the room but the window was open now so that cooled the room, so she said "see, it's working" but the night before was when the window was shut and it was hot so checking it at that time was useless. In the end, the hotel did nothing about it, saying that because it was booked through booking.com their hands were tied, as far as a refund or discount.

The hotel is in a great location, with most attractions and restaurants within walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Unfortunately, my room door did not latch properly unless it was pushed shut forcefully. On my first night, a drunk naked guest accidentally entered my room and later urinated in the elevator. While the room was cleaned afterward, I was not offered a different room and had to remain there for the rest of my stay. The rooms do not have air conditioning, only a fan with a timer that shuts off during the night, making it uncomfortable to sleep. The bathroom soap dispenser also leaked continuously and got my personal items dirty. Considering the room rate, the value simply wasn't there. I stayed here for business, but I would not choose this hotel for personal travel. I was also told my receipt would be emailed after checkout, but I have yet to receive it. Overall, an average experience with a good location and friendly staff, but several issues prevented it from being a better stay.

Hotel is nice. It’s 3 star so rooms are basic. But we were happy with it. Comfy beds. The breakfast was plentiful and very nice with a good stocked selection. Location is absolutely perfect. In the town but surprisingly quiet. Bar was good. Nice area to socialise with other guests. What sets this hotel apart from many others are the excellent staff and they customer service they give . We felt very welcome and ALL the staff were always happy to help. I had brought my father to tour Normandy on the hottest days on record in June !!! 40c on the day we arrived…and although there is no air conditioning in the rooms (it’s an old building so that’s understandable) the staff had put extra fans and cold water in our room. My only small gripe is the cost of the car park which I feel is a little bit expensive for what it is…but to be fair the costs are well advertised on the booking advert..so I knew what it would be. So glad we booked our stay here and I would happily recommend this hotel for anyone. Thanks for an excellent 7 night stay.

I really like having an empty mini frig in the room, hair conditioner and unless I wasn't doing it correctly, a hair dryer that I dont have to press the whole time. Other than those nit picky things- I loved my stay for 4 nights there. Location was perfect, staff was attentive and professional. Fluent English. Great suggestions . I was solo and a couple times went down to the small friendly bar just for a diet coke or a passable fast cook meal. It was open to the public but, delightfully for the guests- was more of a place to hang for people before going up to their rooms. They also have on site a facility that was, until it lost its director a full spa but now for ( I think 25euros) you can use their spa facilities. That was a real perk for me. Bring your bathing suity. I REALLY recommend this place. PLUS an FYI- literally across the street is a quaint movie theatre- only with films in French, so for those fluent- enjoy!!

We actually booked a year in advance by accident but accomdated us. We had our previous hotel cancelled at last minute but this hotel was beautiful and close to everything in Bordeaux. Kids enjoyed the pool and we could experience what Bordeaux was like. Beautiful rooms and service was excellent.

We had a good stay overall, but the handling of the breakfast was disappointing. The night before, we asked if breakfast was included and were clearly told that it was. We confirmed this again the next morning and received the same answer. After having breakfast, we were then informed that it was not included and were charged for it. Given the information we were provided twice, we believe the hotel should have honored what was communicated to us. Clear and consistent communication is essential to avoid this kind of situation for future guests

Handily placed just outside Bayeux (15 mins by car). Secure site, gate (not just a barrier) closed after 23.00 and access via intercom. Staff very pleasant and helpful, rooms basic (no kettle - vending machine in lobby, no hairdryer but is available on request from reception) but comfortable and clean. Breakfast buffet kept well stocked with yoghurt, fruit, cereals, bread, cheese and cold meats, pastries and tea and coffee. Never ran out despite the hotel being quite full. Recommended and would stay again.

We stayed here for one night on 27/9/2025 Ibis budgets can be a bit hit and miss, the basic formular is the same, small hotel room with a double and sometimes a bed over, small bathroom and a basic breakfast. Sometimes this works really well, other not so much so, but on this occasion it definitely did work very well. The receptionist was pleasant efficient and helpful, the room was clean and in good condition. The breakfast was also good. Plus the restaurant next door (Courtepaille Bayeux) was good, but I would suggest ringing and booking in advance as it was busy the night we stayed (it appears popular with locals). I’d happily recommend the hotel and will return if I need an overnight stop in the region.

Booked this hotel for five nights with breakfast, whilst touring the area war museums on my motorcycle. It’s super easy to find , well located to getting to the area beaches and museums. The hotel is very clean , tidy along with the room. Comfortable bed, good shower. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

I have stayed in many Ibis Budget but this is my favourite. Located off the motorway but very quiet. Always spotlessly clean. Next door to a nice restaurant, reasonably priced food and drinks. Lots of choice for breakfast. Most of all very friendly staff. They also have secure parking.

Overal an exceptional Campanile to visit. We spent 5 nights and enjoyed every minute. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Waiter and waitress were very hospitable and the Chef was clearly 1st class with delicious meals created and a varied choice available from a changeable menu. Chambermaid kept our room clean and replenished during our stay, 1st class all round.

Nice location with parking on site. Restaurant with good food for lunch and dinner. Rooms with simple standard, good beds but lacks storage and clothes hooks. Extremely warm rooms, the air condition cant cope with warm weather. Breakfast buffe simple but ok. Very friendly and serviceminded staff.

Excellent location and very clean rooms, comfortable bed. Big carpark on site. Welcoming staff and a restaurant onsite. Meals and breakfast was great. Walking distance 5mins to Bayeux centre and a good base for surrounding visitor attractions. Have used before and will continue to use. Highly, highly recommend.

Basic hotel that is ideal for visit not requiring hotel amenities - excellent price - 10 minute walk to train station, 15 minutes to downtown Bayeux - exterior entrance next to farm and horse breeder - good (not great) breakfast - room was clean, quiet, good bathroom / shower, no issues at all

Had a very enjoyable meal on Thursday @ 6ish. Fish of the day on plat de jour & a cheeseburger. The fish was cooked to perfection, in a cream sauce with potatoes & ratatouille. Started with 6 langoustines. Finished with Chocolate moose & the other half had Coupe Normandie - Apple icecream & calvados. Service very good. Even allowed the dog inside restaurant. Prices good too. A very enjoyable experience.

We used their Restaurant for breakfast while we stayed close to this hotel. They were very gracious to our group. We ate breakfast there three days. The breakfast bar had good choices.

If you are looking to stay in Normandy, and get an experience of what it is to stay in France, this is the place. The hotel is old, with little amenities, and it served its purpose for my stay. You have a great view of Churchill's artificial harbors, and there are German pillboxes to explore as you venture out. Warning, I could not find a tour (they all start from Paris, Caen, and Bayeux) so I ventured on my own. The locals do not speak much English if any at all. There is a public bus that is an hour ride to Omaha Beach, from there I walked 4 hours along the beach and countryside, finding monuments and pillboxes until I reached the American Cemetery. Gold Beach is about an hour walk east from the hotel. Adjacent to the hotel are plenty of classic French bistros and restaurants. The view of the sunset over the water from the hotel was also beautiful.
Fergus Cafferty★★★★☆
Good location beside a museum and the beach. Parking very difficult to find during the day.
Riccardo Di Petrillo★★☆☆☆
Terrible experience. We went here at the restaurant and we just wanted some bread. We were three people, and only one of us got bread in the plate (for example i had a cheeseburger and a member of my family a croque monsieur . The excuse? “Two of your dishes already include bread” — seriously? Since when does a cheeseburger replace a proper bread basket at a restaurant? On top of that, we found dirt in the salad. This is basic hospitality, and they failed it. Never coming back.

My daughter and I stayed in this charming hotel. It is tastefully decorated, clean, and comfy. The owners are so thoughtful and welcoming. I hope to return one day. In the meantime, I will fondly remember our short stay.

Beware this hotel only opens during specific hours. There is a sign on the door stating that it is open from 5-10pm. If you arrive with your luggage before then, you have to drag it with you around Bayeux until the hotel opens. Rooms are comfy and basic. Small packets of shampoo/body wash supplied. Hair dryer in bathroom. Tea kettle in the room. Breakfast was croissant with cold meat and cheese. Coffee was dispensed out of a machine. You have to let the owners know if you will take breakfast the night before. You can’t just show up. The owners were very nice. It’s an excellent location. Just 1/2 block from the Main Street in Bayeux.
Alison Napier★★★★★
We had a terrific stay at Hotel Declic. The service was excellent. Very helpful and kind. The room was bigger than expected. Nice setup, comfortable beds and a pretty view. The location is excellent. We walked all over Bayeux. Having free parking close by was also great. We had the breakfast and in addition to the yummy food, it’s a beautiful indoor terrace where you can enjoy and meet other travellers. They even brought in gluten free bread for me. Highly recommend!

Great location in the center of Bayeux. Friendly and helpful hosts, highly recommended. If You are planning to see Omaha and Utah beach memorials, it is a short drive from the hotel.

We spent two nights at this hotel, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The interior is decorated with a unique and artistic eye—you’ll keep discovering charming little design details everywhere you look. There’s also a small, lovely back terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast surrounded by flowers. Our room was exceptionally clean and tidy, and everything worked perfectly. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The location of the hotel is simply perfect. But what truly sets this place apart isn’t just the beautiful space or the practical amenities—it’s the warmth, thoughtfulness, and genuine hospitality of the owners. It’s clear that they run their boutique hotel with love and care, doing everything they can to make guests feel welcome and at home. Their passion is evident in every little detail. I will definitely be coming back. Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We found the hotel on Google last week when on a tour around Normandy. Since we had a party of three we were looking specifically for hotels who could accommodate us in one room and luckily they had a room that suited our needs. They also have double and family rooms. The owners are very nice, provided us with a nice, clean and by the looks of it recently remodeled three person room. This room was not accessible from the hotel but rather from an adjacent street, this was literally 75 metres away so no big deal. Breakfast was amazing for french standards, I had my best croissant ever at this hotel. We are looking for an excuse to come back here soon. The only point on which I didn't give the full five stars is service because I would have loved the bar being open. I do understand it being closed due to the low season there and there is a nice bar down the street so no big deal. All in all, I definately recommend this small hotel to anyone!
Amanda Leeming★★★★☆
We found the hotel on Google, a last-minute change of plans, Vito was very welcoming after we popped in and he sorted the rooms out. Very comfortable and newly refurbished. Parking for our motorbikes was reassuring and the pizza we had was great. We would have given 5 stars if there had been a kettle and tea and coffee in the room, it was the only bad point for an English couple 🙂 Would recommend to anyone wanting a small friendly hotel.

Felt lucky to have accommodation in the heart of Arromanches-les-Bains for the D-day commemorations. Rooms independent from any hotel, more a restaurant with self contained rooms accessed independently from another street. Accommodation served its purpose. Room spacious with outside communal decking, although the decking had no proper furniture as advertised, just broken pots, wheely bins, broken furniture and fag butts as it’s the staff communal smoking area. The beds were comfy, and the bedroom nicely presented. The stay was let down by the lack of service from the restaurant for guests and lack of cleanliness of the rooms. Outdated shower, room not very clean (dirt and dust under the beds), no kettle or cups, a lack of pillows etc. We were not welcomed as staying guests for food or drink, but rudely turned away as busy. Albeit we didn’t bother their doors again. The area is amazing for exploring the Normandy beaches and D-day history. Arromanches is a delightful, friendly town and the beach and sunsets very special. We have been many times and will be back, but personally we would choose alternative accommodation.
K. I.★★★★☆
The hotel was decent for price paid, breakfast was awesome, staff was very accommodating. The restaurant was the best in town. Our room was #5, last floor, the ceiling roof window opens to the cathedral clock tower, amazing view. The toilet with a tiny sink is in separate room than shower. The Shower room was large to keep the large suit case and a very large travel bag. The shower room had a nice size sink and a full size mirror, in addition to the mirror by the sink. The hotel room itself head the double bed and two single beds. Pillows were comfortable. Parking wizard office Street or they were too small parking lots about 100 m away from the hotel. parking was free. The location is great a block from Museum, to 360 cinema (D day exhibit), beaches, and to La Marine restaurant

The Restaurant is excellent in all aspects. I've been here three times and I've always been very well attended. It is close to the Landing Museum and has wonderful cuisine and an excellent wine list. Great place to have a happy and satisfied lunch. Congratulations to the owners and employees of the restaurant. Come and see!

This hotel is dare I say 'charming'. It is an old house that is very tastefully decorated. The lobby opens into a dining room where breakfast is served. The dining area is off to the side. Bedrooms are upstairs and adequately sized and very clean. The staff is extraordinary and there for all of your needs. It is well situated to be able to walk the town which is equally as charming.

Charming Stay in Bayeux We had a delightful experience at this B&B. The location couldn’t be better—perfectly situated for exploring Bayeux and the surrounding Normandy sites, yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful and secure. Getting in and out was simple and safe, which made our stay stress-free. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and offered a lovely view that made mornings feel extra special. The owner was wonderfully friendly and welcoming, adding a personal touch that made us feel right at home. Breakfast was just what we needed to start the day—fresh, satisfying, and a great way to fuel up before sightseeing. Overall, this B&B combines convenience, comfort, and genuine hospitality. A fantastic choice for anyone visiting the area.

I stayed at Le Castel in April 2025. After an initial misunderstanding about payment method (they do not accept Amex), they reached out to me and we arranged to pay again with a Visa card. I subsequently discovered that my Visa card had been charged twice. Despite many attempts to contact them about this via email and phone, including having my sister who is fluent in French write to them, they have completely ignored me.

This historical home with guest rooms was a close distance (10 min walk) to the train station which was convenient. An easy walk to the beautiful church and also local shops and restaurants. The bed was comfortable, room was very clean, bathroom was large, and breakfast was nice and tasty - whole fruits, yogurt, breads, pastry, cheese, coffee/tea/juice. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner/etc. We would stay here again and we recommend Le Castel guest house.
Bryan Jones★★★★★
Spent three nights in this exceedingly comfortable and friendly Normandy mansion. The host speaks very good English and a fabulous breakfast. The beds were very comfortable a little more on the firm side. They provided you with multiple allergy, free pillows, soft or hard as well as additional blankets so if you think a down comforter is too hot, you can have a thinner but comfortable choice. I prefer to sleep with the fan and they offered several portable fans, which were fabulous. The showers were enclosed with great water pressure. We had a mini fridge in our room. The heated towel rack was always on. We had a large dual sink with plenty of space for toiletries. Our private deck had a magnificent view of the cathedral on which we enjoyed drinking our subpar French beer. The location made walking to fabulous restaurants very convenient. There is free parking diagonally across the street and if that lot is full, there is a gigantic lot almost behind this hotel with more than enough parking for just a small fee. The setting as well as the breakfast in the morning would make this a return stay if I’m ever back in this area. The rooms are more than spacious and we were traveling with our young son, they provided a very comfortable roll away single bed for 25 euros a night.

Unfortunately, this hotel is not very welcoming. The rooms are very small and don't have a proper wastebin, only a tiny one in the bathroom. At breakfast, the hotel feels rather like a youth hostel or school canteen. It is required to carry a little tablet around, otherwise guests won't be granted access to the buffet, as the owner is watching with eagle eyes. The breakfast itself is alright although lacking in variation, with the same (limited) selection being served each day. The owner is rather strict and not very service-oriented, giving guests rules at every turn. It seems like he perceives guests as more of a disturbance rather than paying customers. The location and the building itself are nice although a bit out of the way but it shouldn't be hard to find a better and more welcoming accommodation.

Beautiful hotel, in a stunning location. Good value. Comfortable bed, good hot shower. Really good for a couple of nights stay if wanting to explore the Invasion beaches and battlefields of the Normandy battle. Could struggle for storage space for a longer stay.

My room was small but adequate, the host superb, I understand the dinner is wonderful but breakfast is pretty standard fare, the surrounding landscape is spectacular take a walk down the road you'll see.

We had an excellent meal here, and very reasonably priced. We stayed 3 nights; location is excellent for Caen, Bayeux and the Normandy beaches. Proprietor are very helpful. The accessible bedroom needs an additional grab rail or two in the bathroom. But overall a great place. Market in Port en Bessin on Sunday is fun. Try the Calvados!

Great little place to stay! We stayed for the evening and left the next morning. The room was very cosy, bed was a little small but overall it was good! There is exclusive parking for clients, so that's great! It's ran by a couple, so its important to keep in mind they aren't open all hours for check-in!

Located just a short walk from one of the D-day beaches. Quiet. Great place to stay with your dog and have lovely long beach walks, while looking at the impressive remains of the artificial harbour and other D-day reminders. . The property is fully fenced. Breakfast was very nice and the host very friendly and helpful. Her doggie girl was sweet and played with our doggie boy so nicely. Room is basic, but all one needs for a short stay. The rooms are upstairs divided from a sunny breakfast room below. Small hall there allows entrance to all these upper floor rooms. Do not expect modern. Would stay again🙂

Stayed for 2 nights in the lower floor studios. Perfect quiet location to relax and enjoy the ocean breeze. Easy walk out the front to the beach. The host was very friendly and accommodating. Would stay again!

We stayed in a family room which had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a small kitchenette (wihtin one of the bedrooms). The room(s) were nice and clean and included towels etc. Our room didn't have a view and was quite basic but for our one night stay that wasn't a big deal. The owners were very friendly and between my basic French and their fairly basic English we understood enough for everything we needed. We also had the breakfast which was really delicious. It is a 2 minute walk to a lovely sandy beach and has loads of parking there.

La Villa Port Winston is a very nice place to stay. The view over the ocean is incredibly. The room I had was perfect, enough room and a modern shower /restroom! Sadly from the room there is no view of the beach /ocean. The breakfast is ok, there is enough choices to suit every need. Would stay here again!

Pros: It's about a 20 minute walk from the train station which wasn't too bad but if you have large suitcases or mobility issues you will probably want to take the bus or a taxi. It is in a great location with a 1-2 minute walk to the heart of Bayeaux. Wonderful shops and cafe's to explore. Cons: The street noise at night was Extremely Loud with vehicle traffic. Like most European hotels there is no air conditioning and we visited in late June so we had to keep the windows open to try and cool the room down. We had to choose between sweltering hot or listening to the street noise so we kept the windows open and tried to ignore the noise. Odd quirk about the room was that the toilet was on the main floor but the sink was on the second floor so you had to walk up a flight of stairs to wash your hands etc. Overall not a bad room but also nothing spectacular. If you visit in the summer you may want to stay somewhere else that is off the main drag and a bit quieter when the windows are open. If you visit in cooler months then this is a great option. As for Bayeaux... it's a must visit! It is beautiful with wonderful and friendly people.

Overall it was a great stay! We typically stay at chains, typically Hilton as we have status, as we know what to expect but Bayeux didn't have many. As a family of 5 it is hard finding space for out family. Booked studio suite which sleeps 6. Nice to have kitchenette although we didn't cook. Microwave and fridge were nice to have. Didn't realize that no soap or shampoo and this was the first I didn't pack but a quick walk to pharmacy solved that. Really needed one more set of towels and 1 pillow but not a deal breaker. Hotel was super quiet and reminded me of the older ones in the French quarter in New Orleans. Quick walk to heart of Bayeux. We loved the location! Quick takeaway.. super clean, fabulous location and an amazing welcoming host.

The hotel is cute, it’s in a great location, close to the cathedral. They have VERY limited check in hours so don’t make the mistake we made by showing up at 1pm and having to wait until exactly 4pm to check in. Thankfully after a couple phone calls we were able to leave our bags in a seating area. The room we had Room 12 was larger than I expected and had a cute view of the neighbouring homes. You do not get any bathroom essentials other than a bar of soap. Beds were comfortable and the room was surprisingly tuned over while we were out on a tour so that was a nice bonus.

Staff have all been excellent. Well situated for the restaurants and bars, but still a very quiet location. Room is quite small, but a very big en-suite wet room. Room is air conditioned which is working very well in mid summer. Limited parking , you will need to reserve in advance. There is a pay and display car park less than 100m from the hotel.

I have read the other reviews and I can imagine them being true. We were lucky enough to have had a good experience at the hotel. The manager worked hard to make our group happy and accommodated. I thought the AC and the bathrooms were great. Our bed was comfy. My group of 50 shared no complaints about functionality of the hotel. The breakfast was lovely. We experienced good service while there. We had a bus and no cars. The "key" room keys were kind of silly and yes our group struggled to master locking and unlocking the doors, but in a funny way not in a freak out way. I thought the place was well located, charming, and attentive. Plus you could buy snacks in the lobby which is always a plus. It is in a quiet street which was nice at night. And the shade over the skylight kept the room DARK even in the am which was great for jetlagged sleep!! I feel bad for those who had a bad experience, but I would definitely book this hotel on a return visit.

The location is comforting and right next to the center of town. We got amazing service when we there, and some of the best staff. Had great breakfast with many options to choose from. The room was good only lacked some amenities and was a little small, but other than that it was amazing! Gets you feeling like you’re really in France and the best hotel in town.

The location of this hotel is perfect, it is in within a minute walk of the center of town. The staff was also very nice but overwhelmed. It is my understanding the hotel is under new ownership since November 2025. This may have once been a three star hotel, but needs work to stay a three star hotel. The rooms are accessible via old school lock and key. The key must be used to lock the door from both the inside and outside. The locks are not easy to use and pose quite a fire hazard, especially since it took a few minutes of jiggling the locks to open the door. Cocktail menus were posted at the front desk and in the rooms, but when asked for wine or a drink, we were told were that the menus should not be out as drinks were not available under the current management. We are left a bit baffled as to why that information was posted. We did opt for the breakfast buffet. It was small with some baked goods, a quiche, scrambled eggs, bacon, and of course breads, cheeses, and yogurt. The baked goods were very tasty, but there were not enough eggs and bacon to go around. The coffee maker was an issue. It was not able to handle the amount of guests that wanted coffee and a staff member ended up providing hot water and instant coffee for the morning coffee. In my opinion, this is now a 2 star hotel for service and amenities. However the rooms were clean and the water was hot, even though the towels were thread bare.

Stated two nights, to our misfortune. The hotel is in a good spot— that’s the plus. The family room we had was dated and felt…icky I guess is the best word. The whole place felt very dark and dank compared to the photos. They advertise A/C, but it did NOT work. They said it takes a while to really work. Readers, it did not. The room never got cool and fans weren’t available. My husband ended up taking three cold showers just to try to cool off. Friends stayed at the Belle Normandy and man, was I jealous. Just. No.

Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Bayeux

Securing a great deal on accommodation requires a bit of strategy, especially in a town as popular as Bayeux. While the hotels listed above offer excellent baseline value, you can often save even more money or secure a better room category by planning ahead. Understanding the local tourism patterns and hotel policies will help you maximize your travel budget while ensuring you don’t miss out on the perfect place to rest your head.

Book well in advance for the summer months. Normandy is a major pilgrimage site for history enthusiasts, particularly around the June 6th D-Day anniversary. If you plan to travel between May and September, or during major commemorative events, the cheapest rooms sell out months in advance. Booking early locks in lower rates before dynamic pricing increases them.

Consider a midweek stay. Bayeux is a hugely popular weekend destination for Parisians and British travelers. Hotel rates often spike on Friday and Saturday nights and drop significantly on Sunday through Thursday. If your itinerary is flexible, shifting your visit to the middle of the week can save you 20% to 30% on the exact same room.

Check if breakfast is worth the extra fee. While some budget hotels include a simple continental breakfast in the rate, most charge a separate fee (usually between €8 and €12 per person). This can be a convenient option, but you can often eat cheaper at a local boulangerie. Compare the cost of the hotel breakfast against grabbing a fresh croissant and coffee at a nearby café before committing.

Look for "Logis" or "Contact Hôtel" affiliations. Many of the best cheap hotels in Bayeux are independently owned but belong to French quality associations like Logis. These affiliations often guarantee a certain standard of comfort and hospitality, and they frequently run seasonal promotions or offer discounted rates for multi-night stays that you won’t find on large booking platforms.

Don’t be afraid to call directly. While online travel agencies are convenient, they charge the hotel a commission. Some family-run budget hotels in Bayeux will offer a slightly lower rate, a free room upgrade, or a complimentary parking spot if you book directly with them via phone or their official website. It never hurts to ask if they can beat the online price.

Bayeux is a town that rewards the curious traveler, and finding the right affordable base camp enhances the entire experience. By choosing a budget-friendly hotel, you free up resources for the immersive tours and local delicacies that make this region so special. You aren’t just saving money; you are investing it back into the memories you came to create.

From the cobblestone lanes of the old town to the moving sands of Omaha Beach just a short drive away, your journey through history starts with a good night’s sleep. With a little planning and the right choice from this list, you can enjoy the warmth of Norman hospitality and wake up ready to explore, all while keeping your travel budget firmly intact.
