Dijon might be world-famous for its mustard, but for families exploring the historic capital of Burgundy, the city offers a far more delicious dilemma: where to eat with kids in tow. Navigating cobblestone streets with a stroller and hungry children can feel daunting, especially in a city known for sophisticated gastronomy. However, beneath the surface of Michelin-starred tasting menus lies a vibrant, welcoming culinary scene built for all ages.
The French approach to dining often feels formal, but Dijon has evolved to embrace a relaxed, family-centric atmosphere in many of its establishments. You do not have to sacrifice quality regional cuisine just because you have a toddler requesting plain pasta or a teenager craving a burger. From traditional Burgundian brasseries serving boeuf bourguignon to modern pizzerias with dedicated play corners, the city balances heritage with practicality.
Parents will be relieved to know that the French concept of "service continu" is becoming more common here, meaning you can find lunch at 11:30 AM or dinner at 6:00 PM without breaking a sweat. Many restaurants also offer "menu enfant" options that go beyond the dreaded frozen chicken nugget, introducing young palates to local ingredients like Comté cheese and jambon persillé. It is entirely possible to enjoy a glass of local Pinot Noir while your children happily color at the table.
The key to a stress-free meal in Dijon lies in choosing the right neighborhood and atmosphere. The historic center around Place de la Libération is stunning but can be busy and cramped for strollers, whereas the areas near Les Halles market or the Antique District offer more breathing room. Outdoor terraces are plentiful in the warmer months, providing a natural buffer for noisy toddlers and allowing parents to relax over a long, leisurely meal.
Beyond the food itself, the best family-friendly restaurants in Dijon understand the logistics of dining with children. You will find high chairs, changing facilities, and staff who greet little ones with a smile rather than a raised eyebrow. These places recognize that a happy child means happy parents, and they work hard to ensure the entire table enjoys their time together.
To help you plan your culinary adventure without the guesswork, we have curated a list of the top spots that consistently deliver on both taste and tolerance. These restaurants offer the perfect blend of authentic Burgundian flavor, welcoming service, and practical amenities that make dining out with the family a genuine pleasure rather than a chore.

Few restaurants are open Sunday in Dijon so we were a bit uncertain about a hotel restaurant. It was wonderful!
The atmosphere was warm welcoming and comfortable with a great vibe that is certainly cheeky. Service was attentive despite being quite busy suddenly. The duck confit croquettes needed a little salt but otherwise were crisp and creamy in all the right ways. The steak tartare was cut perfectly and was well balanced while the luxurious (dare I say over the top) pasta with ham cheese and poached egg left us stuffed. What better way to finish then an espresso and a surprise Ace.
Nicely done.

It was Christmas Eve. The restaurant was super busy. You can tell some staffs were part-timers, but doing their best. We ordered too much and were too full, otherwise the foods would be magnificent.
Doruk Unal★★★★★
The meat platter was actually quite delicious and filling. We contemplated ordering more food after that. We also ordered the duck and steak. The steak was a tiny bit burnt but really really good. The restaurant has a very classic fun vibe to it. I’d probably dine here again!

We have been here for dinner. We made a reservation in advance and were placed in far last corner of the room. It felt like being punished ..
The service is terribly slow, we had to cancel the last order, because they did not manage to bring it in time.
The food itself was ..well, ok. It was nothing special to be remembered and it wasn’t so bad that you couldn’t eat it.
For a town which is known for good food and wine, this was a complete desaster..I‘m sorry guys, but that’s my honest opinion..

Food was so good
The services was just ok
The location was convenient
The sofa where we sat was uncomfortable 😣
We had lowerback pain after dinner.
Recommend to have table with the normal chairs.

The waitresses were really friendly and the food really tasty. My students and I loved the vintage decorations with cassettes, playmobil, Sonyc, Star wars figures... Genius idea the QR code on the tables to add songs to the playlist that sounds in thé background. Great place and great food!!!

The food came out cold even the fries. When we asked for hotter fries it's almost like they warmed up cold fries- wasn't crispy at all.
The service was slow- wr had to ask for water few times until one of us went to grab the water at the bar.
The atmosphere was nice though(inside) even though we sat outside.
Cristina Di Giovanna★☆☆☆☆
Unfortunately great expectations for this place but terrible experience. I booked the table for 1.30 pm and we’ve been served after 1 hour with 2 kids waiting. All the other tables have been served before us and the excuse was a wrong order…then one of the dishes that we ordered of course was finished! Then instead of offering maybe a small discount for the lack of service, they even made a mistake in the bill and were charging 30,00 euros on top. Luckily I double checked but never again!
Steven Reid★★★☆☆
Fun but the food was underwhelming, which was disappointing as there’s a lot of effort in the decor. Undercooked and bland beignets. Cordon Bleu des Fistons was okay but not great - a bit dry. Thankfully there was a great little sauce that came with it. Potatoes weren’t good. Nice service.
Yiannis Evagelou★★★☆☆
Nice interiors and attentive service. Friendly people. Food could be better in my opinion. The croque-madame was ok but the bread was shoggy and not crispy. Also the butternut soup we had was dry and not creamy at all... The burger was good. Drinks were nice. Nice place overall, but food needs some attention.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. They serve excellent traditional food, especially the Flammekueche, which was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. The atmosphere was nice, quiet, and relaxing, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. The staff were very friendly and made an effort to speak English, which I really appreciated. Their kindness and hospitality made me feel welcome. Overall, the delicious food, peaceful atmosphere, and attentive service made this a restaurant I would happily recommend.

Excellent Flammekuchen which was a first for us. A light version of the Italian version.
It was hot as hell outside so when they opened up the big window screen, the indoor dining experience was not very pleasant. And the waiters were not very observant and didn't know the other had taken order and thought we had finished instead.

I really enjoyed my Goat'zilla—it was tasty and filling without being too heavy. The service was friendly. A good option for those looking for a satisfying meal that won't break the bank.

This was some of the best Flammkuchen and service I’ve ever had. Our waiter provided fantastic service despite that fact that we were dressed extremely leisurely, definitely not proper restaurant attire (we are just passing through on a road trip and were starving). The food came quickly, was delicious, and the wine which was very affordable was really tasty.
10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a delicious, fairly priced meal, in a cute setting and with amazing service

We was staying in Dijon and found this amazing restaurant. Our kids absolutely loved it .All of the staff were super friendly , in particular a very helpful male staff who spoke great English and made us feel very welcome and helped translate the menu and order . If we ever visit Dijon again we will most definitely come back here. Thank you

We arrived late (2145) on a Friday with our 2x 7 year olds after travelling from the UK.
My wife was sceptical when I booked it as she wanted a nice sit down Italians or something but that wasn't practical with the kids who needed sleep.
Staff were lovely. The burgers (veggie included) were genuinely very nice and there were free arcade games that entertained the kids. The theme was a bit of fun and the staff all dressed up.

Great themed restaurant! If you love pirates, this is the spot! Menu is clear and short. Great for kids but the alcoholic drinks are awesome for adults. Completely in theme of pirates. Get a Mexican bomb! It could have a little salade on the side to fill up the plates. Big plates not alot of food on it. But Great to have dinner.

Initially, we mistook it for a tourist trap, but fortunately, we decided to give it a try. For just 25 euros, you can order their lunch set menu, which includes one entree, one main course, one dessert, and one glass of wine. Each dish is delicious and definitely worth the price.

Great place for dinner. The bœf bourguignon was excellent paired with Pinot Noir. Very centrally located and the price was very reasonable, especially since there is no tax or tip.

I do not recommend this restaurant!
We ordered 8 dishes between 6 of and only one was an ok dish (muscles), everything else was various stages from mediocre to horrible.
The absolute worst was Poke bowl, it did look like one but every ingredient in it was inedible (slimy half cooked salmon, bitter pickled ginger, something green that tasted like defrosted paper, etc.)
Pizza was next worst contender. The dough was ok but the sauce tasted like the worst canned sauce you can find.
Our waiter was nice but didn't understand English and messed up our orders several times.

Cute little restaurant managed by the owner who does literally everything by himself (there's no other staff). The main dish served is gratin, in massive portions, but the menu also includes omelettes, salads and a steak. Inevitably service can be slow, but we were eating outside (the restaurant had tables in a little courtyard away from the main street) and we enjoyed the atmosphere, with french people starting conversations across tables.
Portia Nights★★☆☆☆
This restaurant had a charming, local atmosphere and stood out as one of the few non-touristy places open in Dijon. The portions were generous, comforting, and undeniably hearty. That said, a few aspects of the experience fell short for me personally:
* There was no Wi-Fi or reliable phone service inside the restaurant.
* The kitchen remains fully open to the dining area, and because much of the menu involves fried dishes, I left smelling quite strongly of fryer oil.
* I was genuinely surprised that there were no Burgundy wines available by the glass — especially in the capital of Burgundy.
* I asked to sit closer to the entrance for better reception, but the host declined because he anticipated a large party arriving and did not want the seating arrangement disrupted. I completely understood and even offered to move later if needed, but the request was still denied. In the end, no large group arrived.
Overall, I can appreciate the rustic appeal and generous cuisine, but I personally do not understand the exceptionally high ratings. For me, the experience felt closer to a 3.9 than the current score reflects.

Felt very authentic! We were the only English speakers in the restaurant. The potato gratin was fantastic and the portions extremely generous. Paired with beautiful local wine at prices I could only dream of in England. Definite highlight of our trip around Europe.

What a charming place! A small restaurant tucked away in a side alley, with excellent gratin and enormous portion (doggie bags were needed). We very much enjoyed our meal and the experience.

We wanted an authentic local experience and this small restaurant looked interesting. The owner/chef does not speak English but communication was not a problem.
Everything was fantastic from the service to the wine, dinner, and dessert.
The portions were large and a take away doggie bag was offered. We enjoyed the leftovers the next day for lunch. This was the best Potatoes Au Gratin we have ever had. Thank you for a wonderful meal that was prepared perfectly.

Gorgeous patio & garden. It was 100° F the day of our dinner reservation but the garden and patio was comfortable enough to enjoy (we did have the option of dining inside but it was just to pretty to skip dining outside). The food and service were great. Solid wine list with options at all price points. They offered a tasting menu for 70 euro pp that looked awesome but weren't super hungry so opted to order a la carte. The squab was delightful.

This menu isn’t for the faint of heart but if you’re up for it, you may find something. It is a small interesting menu. We had to peek at and order from the bar menu for the kids. Overall this is an adult restaurant for a more sophisticated dining experience.

My wife and I tried Les Jardin while celebrating our honeymoon. We ordered the 6 course meal and wine pairing, and we were blown away! Every course was presented beautifully beautifully, and the flavors were intentional and exquisite.

I love L’Abenfant. Behind the unassuming exterior and decor are a team of consummate hosts and confident chefs. The welcome and service was warm and friendly and the pacing of the meal was perfect. I chose the poultry pate croute to start, the pork with beetroot and blackcurrant for the main course and the fig, tarragon and honey to finish. The pork dish was the highlight of the meal - the pairing of the sweet pork and earthy beetroot made for a well-balanced dish. The dessert was also delicious, and showcased the quality and flavour of the fresh fruit, which was accompanied by delicately sweetened cream and a buttery biscuit tart base. The only thing that would have made the meal even better is if the pork was a touch less ‘done’. I would most certainly return to L’Abenfant when next in Dijon. Thank you for such a thoroughly enjoyable meal.

I recently visited a charming restaurant that left a lasting impression from the moment I walked in. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with soft lighting, tasteful decor, and a calm atmosphere that made it perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The staff were attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming, ensuring that every detail of the experience felt effortless.
The menu offered a well-balanced selection of dishes, combining fresh ingredients with creative presentation. I ordered the grilled salmon, which was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and complemented by a beautifully seasoned side of vegetables. The portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming, striking a satisfying balance.
One of the highlights was the attention to quality and consistency. Every dish served at nearby tables looked equally appealing, suggesting strong kitchen standards. The dessert, a rich chocolate fondant, was the perfect ending—decadent without being overly sweet.
Overall, this restaurant delivers a refined yet comfortable dining experience. Whether you are looking for a relaxed evening or a memorable meal, it stands out as a place worth returning t

Just for the location of this restaurant, next to the magnificent building of the "Grand Théâtre" and opposite the churches of "Saint Stephen's" and "Saint Michael's", it is worth visiting to absorb the beauty of the space on the "place du Théâtre".
The food was excellent! Especially the "Joue de boeuf à la Bourguignonne" was delicious. Also, the "Croustillant de Chèvre Chaud" had a special and distinct taste, which is worth trying.
Finally, do not miss the wonderful wine "Pinot Noir Bourg".

We arrived here quite by chance, and it turned out to be the best meal of our trip in Dijon.
Joue de bœuf bourguignon was super flavourful, well-balanced, and really comforting.œuf meurette was also great. And the red wine we randomly picked (Mercurey 1er Cru 2020) paired perfectly with everything.
If you’re in the mood for good, traditional French food, this place is definitely worth a stop.

We went here very spontaneously but it was definitely a good idea! The food was pretty good and the portions were equally filling. They have a few typical french dishes on the menu which was nice. The Service was decent. Especially the women staff there are very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend reserving a table if you want to sit inside though because its seems to be very popular. It is a bit more on the expensive side but it makes sense, because of the calm area and the nice view you have while eating:)

Six of us dined here on 5th September and were very impressed. The food was exemplary and showcased everything that french cuisine is renowned for especially concentrated flavours and sauces.
Being a Saturday night the restaurant was busy and the service was a little stretched but the staff were friendly and delightful. It was also very good value.
We were offered a table in the upstairs room which was intimate and quiet.
I'm happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Dijon.

We had a wonderful dining experience at La Fine Heure in Dijon. From the moment we arrived, the warm and authentic French hospitality stood out.
The escargot was outstanding — perfectly prepared, beautifully presented, and truly impeccable. The beef Bourguignon was the best I have ever tasted; the rich flavors, generous portion size, and elegant presentation made it a memorable highlight of the meal. The carefully balanced selection of local wines complemented the dishes perfectly, and both the waiters and the owner provided excellent recommendations that enhanced our dinner.
The service was classic French — attentive, professional, and unhurried. What truly made the evening special was when the owner personally approached our table. His guidance on the menu and genuine passion for the food turned the meal into a real highlight. Prices were very fair for the quality and experience we received.
Thank you to the entire team at La Fine Heure for delivering such a fantastic evening. We left feeling truly cared for and impressed. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Dijon and look forward to returning on our next trip.

We dined here two weeks ago. And I really wanted to love it. The place is charming, like old school French. And they have a wine shop right next door as part of the operation. But the service part of our dinner was not quite right. The servers were all youngsters, like 19-24. They were very nice, but for the first 20 - 30 minutes, they were literally running all over the restaurant. Very disturbing. and the service was pretty slow.It took forever to get our first glasses of wine, then longer to get the proprietor to help me with the wine list. The food was pretty good, but the service ruined the experience. I think 1-2 seasoned veteran servers would really help this restaurant shine ! Good Luck with this one ! Cheers !

Great service. I had baked aubergine for a starter, pork and mash main (needed a different sauce - not much flavour, maybe a tomato one) and macarpone dessert with peaches in sirop. They don't do cocktails but they have aperitifs. I had kir burgond- creme de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) with cremant (sparking wine). The dessert was nice. It's pretty expensive. It's a wine shop that does wine tasting and then has a restaurant attached to it, so of course there is a large selection of wine. Service was quick and friendly and they speak English (like everywhere here). It's nice that they offer tap water as well.

One of the worst dishes we have eaten in France! Simply junk, totally unhealthy!! A bowl full of French fries, cheap cheese some stripes of chicken and ready-made sauce ! You pay for this 20eu.
Don't bother!

Really fun place! It’s decorated to look like a homey cafe in Quebec.
It was bustling when we arrived without reservations on a Friday night, but we were seated right away.
My dining companion had the poutine “Trappeur”, with smoked meats and cornichons, and I had the poutine de jour, with cheddar, mushrooms, and Roquefort. Both were delicious, and served in huge portions that neither of us could finish.
We washed down the poutine with a Quebec beer called “Caribou Piss”.
It was a fun evening & a great meal!

Canadian food. To me it looks like streetfood. Small menu. Good canadian wines. The average rating of Google Reviews does not match with our experience, at all. But good service.

Not as amazing as the reviews. Prices are high for the quality of the burgers/fries. Cool and weird Canadian vibe!
Essential Tips for Dining Out with Kids in Dijon
Successfully navigating the Dijon food scene with your family requires a bit of local knowledge and strategic planning. While the city is incredibly welcoming, understanding the rhythm of French dining will help you avoid meltdowns and ensure you get a table at the best spots. Here are some practical strategies to make your family meals as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
1. Embrace the Early Bird Dinner
The French typically eat dinner much later than families from other countries, often not until 8:00 PM or later. If your children are used to eating at 6:00 PM, call ahead and ask if the restaurant opens for "service continu" or if they can accommodate an early seating. Many of the more casual and family-oriented spots in Dijon are happy to serve you early, and you will often have the terrace to yourselves.
2. Look for the "Menu Enfant" but Ask for Half Portions
Most family-friendly restaurants offer a dedicated children’s menu, but these can sometimes be an afterthought. Don’t be afraid to ask if the kitchen can serve a half portion of a regular adult dish instead. This is a fantastic way to introduce your child to authentic Burgundian cuisine, such as a smaller plate of coq au vin or a simple steak with pommes purée, without wasting food or money.
3. Scout for Stroller Space Before You Commit
The historic center of Dijon is full of narrow, multi-level dining rooms that are impossible to navigate with a large stroller. If you have a baby or toddler, prioritize restaurants with large, open dining areas or expansive outdoor terraces. When in doubt, check recent photos online or simply call the restaurant to ask if they have space to park a stroller near the table.
4. Use Les Halles as a Pre-Meal Entertainment Zone
If you are dining near the covered market, Les Halles, take a walk through it before your reservation. Letting your kids see the colorful displays of pastries, cheeses, and fresh produce is a fantastic sensory experience. It can also work up an appetite and provides a great opportunity to grab a small snack or a fresh fruit juice to tide them over while you wait for your main course.
5. Don’t Skip the "Café Gourmand" for Sharing
While the kids might want ice cream, French desserts can be a fun shared experience. Ordering a "café gourmand" for yourself—an espresso served with a selection of miniature desserts—is a clever hack. It allows your children to sample a little bit of crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, and a macaron without committing to a full-sized dessert each, turning the end of the meal into a fun tasting adventure.
Dining out in Dijon with your family is about creating lasting memories around the table. It is a chance to show your children that French food is not stuffy or intimidating, but rather a source of joy, connection, and discovery. Watching a child taste their first real Dijon mustard or dip a crusty baguette into a rich, slow-cooked stew is a travel moment you will treasure long after the plates are cleared.
By choosing the right restaurant and planning your timing, you can unlock a side of Burgundy that many visitors miss. The city’s culinary heart is not locked away in formal dining rooms; it is alive in the bustling brasseries, the pizzerias with wood-fired ovens, and the crêperies where laughter echoes off the stone walls. So pull up a chair, unfold the napkin, and let Dijon welcome your entire family to the table. Bon appétit!
