Dining out with the family in Aix-en-Provence is a genuine pleasure rather than a logistical challenge. The city’s relaxed Mediterranean pace, combined with a deep culinary heritage, creates an environment where children are often welcomed with open arms. From sun-drenched terraces tucked away in historic squares to bustling brasseries serving time-honored Provençal recipes, the dining scene here is remarkably accommodating for all ages.
Finding a spot that balances adult sophistication with child-friendly practicality is the key to a successful meal. You want the authentic flavors of southern France—olive oil, fresh herbs, and seasonal vegetables—without the stuffy atmosphere that can make parents feel on edge. Fortunately, Aix excels at offering menus that please refined palates while still providing simple, high-quality options for younger diners.
The layout of the city itself works in your favor. Many of the best family-friendly establishments are located near the iconic Cours Mirabeau or within the winding pedestrian lanes of the Vieil Aix. This means you can combine a meal with a visit to the famous fountains, a stroll through the markets, or a break between sightseeing without having to trek across town with tired little legs.
When selecting the establishments below, we looked beyond just the presence of a high chair. We considered the warmth of the service, the speed of the kitchen, the availability of outdoor seating, and the overall tolerance for the joyful noise that naturally accompanies family dining. These are places where you can relax, knowing that a spilled drink or an excited child won’t disrupt the entire room.
Provençal cuisine is inherently family-friendly. Dishes like roasted chicken, homemade pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and creamy gratins are staples here, ensuring that even the pickiest eaters will find something to enjoy. Meanwhile, parents can indulge in local specialties like daube (Provençal beef stew), soupe au pistou, or fresh seafood, often sourced directly from the nearby Mediterranean coast.
Whether you are visiting Aix-en-Provence for a week-long holiday or you are a local looking for a new regular spot, this guide is designed to take the guesswork out of your next meal. We have curated a list of restaurants that not only serve excellent food but also understand the unique dynamics of dining with a family.

Such a good surprise
We wanted to go for a long time and today we’ve tried for lunch. First good surprise when you push the small door, you enter in a former church, the decor is amazing.
Service was excellent, and food very good. Geeks stuffs in all details, you can play a game, choose the music, event the menu is fun.
Thank you it was a good good moment.

The food is awesome here, but that's not even the main draw. When a filet mignon with incredible risotto and the best chorizo you've ever had isn't the best part of a restaurant, you're in for a good time.
The waitress was so so nice, and spoke to me and my dad in French (on peut parler le français) and my brother and mom in English, even though she didn't have to. She was hilarious and made wonderful jokes.
Also, the ultraviolet drink is easily the best mocktail I've ever had (and one of the best drinks in general), with wonderful flavors of violet and rosemary.
The converted chapel to the aesthetic of the things a mom and her sons loved growing up together is enough to make a grown man cry. And these activity pages are wonderful, for kids and adults alike.
This is one of those restaurants that you might leave, but its memory never leaves you. An absolute MUST visit if you're traveling to Aix, and definitely an affordable place that I'd easily be a regular at if I could live in Aix :))
P.S. - Shout out to the Paper Mario artwork on the menu. Made me so happy they didn't just use normal Mario.

I had lunch here today and so far it’s been my favorite food I’ve had in France. I got the Filet Trop Mignon which had the perfect level of flavor. It was a breaded piece of pork, slices of chorizo, and some pasta that reminded me of Mac and cheese.
I sat outside so it was a little hot but the inside has AC.

The building was so amazing looking, we came in and just couldn’t believe our eyes.
The vibe and atmosphere were so fun and whimsical, the food was great too, but my personal favourite was the passion fruit mocktail. So delicious and tart, perfect for a passion fruit lover.

The design and the interior are incredible.
I felt like I was in my childhood.
Great atmosphere and positive vibes.
The food is good but not great.
The service could be faster, we wait maybe 30 min.
The staff is very friendly.
It is good to make a reservation before you go because it is not so big.
It was also a little bit cold inside.

Great place to come and relax for amazing service and great food. The burgers are amazing and the location is perfect. Only thing that would make this even better is if they took American Express for American travelers in the area. But for sure it’s a must if you are in Aix!

Best fish sandwich in Aix. Delicious fresh fish perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients and real cheddar & delicious bun. The side potatoes were delicious also and change from usual fries. This is not a tourist spot, the burger cook is very talented I saw the other creative burgers prepared and they looked phenomenal. Look at the extensive burger options offered for all tastes. Place is loaded with locals at lunch. They have an extensive menu of creative burgers. Very nice and efficient service. Wonderful outdoor patio great for people and trend watching. What’s a la mode today? Just grab a burger and enjoy the scenery! Meilleur sandwich poisson d’Aix. Menu extensif avec des burgers élaborés et créatifs. Service très professionnel et sympathique. Très belle terrasse pour observer les tendances actuelles. Restaurant rempli de locaux à midi, pas du tout touristique comme beaucoup d’endroits à Aix. Go fish!

We ate here last night and had an amazing time. The gentleman who served us was awesome. We do not speak French and he was very accommodating. I decided I would come back each day for the remainder of my trip. I returned today, without my husband, and was treated so rudely by the person there, not the gentleman from last night. I was simply asking what time they opened and he was gruff and apparently annoyed by my presence as he waived me off shouting we are closed. Saying he spoke no English, which could be true but unlikely. He and the man at the business next door went on to their conversation and cigarette smoking as if my question didn’t deserve an answer. How do you have an entire restaurant that is American themed and your attitude towards Americans is so poor. I’m pretty positive it’s just this particular person. He ruined a place that was going to be a stop on every trip to Aix. I don’t come all the way here to be treated as if I am not welcome. I reluctantly went to Five Guys instead.

Big Bro Restaurant delivers on every level! The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming—perfect for a casual night out or a relaxed meal with friends. The real highlight? The burgers. Absolutely top-tier. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection with fresh ingredients and creative toppings that take them to the next level.
Service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall great experience. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a must-try if you’re serious about your burgers. Highly recommended!
Evangelos Botsaris★★★★☆
The place is really well decorated and you have many burger options to choose from. The big bro burger was tasty but what disappointed us is that we received our order 1 hour delayed…even people who arrived after us took their order before ours…

I dined here today and had the formula midi. For 15ish euros, I had a galette, a sweet crepe and a drink. The waitress was friendly and both dishes were superb. The galette Faim du Loup was one of the best I’ve ever had.

Crepe tastes very normal. We ordered fruit milk shake but it’s not fresh-made, just some syrup from the fridge and very artificially sweet.

Lovely ambience, but the food was mediocre at best, and service not very accommodating (I was asking for example for a sauce for the potatoes, which were a bit dry, and the answer was simply "Non"). The rosé was very affordable and the taste not bad, but it was served at room temperature unfortunately.
Vita Savenko★★★★★
The food was so delicious. Very generous portions and reasonably priced. I had beef stew and it was amazing.
Martin Carrington★★★★★
Really nice food, stuffed eggplant and the headless lark were excellent. We had expected the option of indoor dining as it wasn't particularly warm, but the only seating offered was in the square. Otherwise excellent.

The food here was absolutely delicious! We had the Angelina and the vegetarian burgers and they were amazing. The atmosphere is lovely highly recommend!
Jon Newbury★★★★★
Lovely but perhaps overlooked restaurant with outdoor seating in a quieter spot just far enough away from the busy bars and restaurants to feel intimate. Visited for dinner twice without booking and both experiences were great. Service is friendly and prompt. Food is excellent, good portion sizes, and the price is very fair. Their local dishes and speciality options offer good variety on a small and simple menu that can cater for most people. Approx €40 for two main meals with wine. On balance, this is one of my favourite restaurants in Aix.

What a culinary journey! We have eaten all over the world and never had such incredible Corsican food. We had the Lamb and Pork stew, and the aroma coming to the table was delightful. Wonderful hospitality and perfect food for the unusually cold weather we experienced in Aix. We will definitely return when we are back in town.

Very central, yet no traffic. Great place to sit outside and enjoy a breakfast or brunch. Gets busy around midday, people from offices nearby getting a bite. Very friendly staff, wonderful food. The brunch offer gets you one healthy (yet tasty) dish and something sweet (I do recommend the pancakes here), as well as a hot and a cold drink. Coffee is excellent and the orange juice is fresh. Works great for Veggies.

We were visiting Aix from Canada and decided to check this place out. The main thing that stuck out about this place was the staff and service! Everyone was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of! The food also was great portions for the a la carte menu. We got the English muffin and the vegan avocado toast and loved them both. Thank you for making us feel welcome.

We can’t say enough good things about La Petite Ferme!
We photographed a welcome party there, and everything was just AMAZING.

This place had been recommend to us by both hotels we had been staying at in the region so we figured we'd give it a try. The decor is beautiful and really makes one feel like you're on holidays. The food was rather underwhelming however. Some of the seafood in our seafood platter tasted like it had been frozen a little too long. The starters we had ordered were indeed a bit experimental but not yet polished.

Dish, especially pork, were amazing, would really recommend, however the noise and cleaning before closing (still clients inside) with the smell of the cleaning products is really disturbing the meal and the taste of the food

Had a lovely dinner tonight. Ordered the tuna tataki and the side salad, which was absolutely delicious. We also had the red snapper. I would prefer it be de-boned. French fries and mushrooms, which was also very good. Very cute restaurant. Very good service. I would definitely eat here again.

Great find for a charming evening in a tucked away alleyway.
We entered to live guitar music. Ambiance was so charming, and our server was attentive. Great cocktails but wish we had both gotten wine—the wine list was wonderful and it’s obvious the owner knows his stuff.
We ordered a charcuterie board and it was a great start to the meal. Ordered the catch of the day (sea bream), which featured a delicious yuzu-pesto and a generous serving of seasonal grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the tuna ceviche which had delicious Thai flavors.
I chose the pistachio cream for dessert which was not what I expected but that’s kind of my ordering mistake. I should have gone with the grilled apricots which I could see at other.ms tables. Would return; it was delicious.

What a unique place. It's quite hidden away in the alleys of Aix but once you find it you'll be itching to go back!
I loved the intererior vibe, high ceilings and lots of quirky decor. We were were with a big group of colleagues to which they were more than happy to accomodate. We had booked in advance to avoid dissappointment.
Our drinks orders were swifly taken and then our food, I can't remember the menu setup but many of us had either two or three courses. Some of the dishes being quite unique such as the crab creme brulee and the chorizo tiramisu, loved the twists to these dishes but I wasn't brave enough to try them so I kepy it simple and went for the terrine. Everyone seemed happy with their choices and for me I was very happy with my main of Lamb, really well cooked and paired with great vegetables. No complaints from me. My only minor criticism is of the apple crumble which unfortunately, coming from England, it was a mistake to get this dish because we do it significantly better than the French (sorry!) so next time for dessert I'll be ordering something a bit more French!
Overall an excellent dining experience which I would very much recommend to small and big groups alike. I will definitely be coming again!
Heidi Littler★★★★★
Tucked away in the old town, this hidden gem feels far from the crowds and truly off the beaten path. The food was excellent, and the service even better. The owner’s passion for both the cuisine and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere really stood out. An absolute pleasure to visit.

A unique dining experience in Aix-en-Provence!
This restaurant is truly one of a kind, with beautiful lamps and tables individually designed and handcrafted by the husband of the previous owner. The space also features paintings by young artists, creating a charming and artistic atmosphere.
The food was enjoyable, although it wasn’t the main highlight of our time in Aix. However, the service was excellent — the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our visit.
If you appreciate art, creativity and unique surroundings, this is definitely a lovely restaurant to visit while exploring Aix-en-Provence.
Matthew Wells★★★★★
My wife and I ate here on a recent trip to Aix en Provence and really loved it. The menu was interesting with lots of options, the atmosphere was fun and cool, and the staff and owners were great. The "worst" part about it was trying to decide what to order; it's definitely one of those places where you wish you could have a little bit of everything. The wine selection was also excellent. I flagged the owner down at one point to ask a question about local wines and he jumped right in to take care of us, letting us try a few wines before making our decision. I really appreciate it when an owner is so hands on with everything. Our French is terrible but everyone spoke great English. I'd recommend a reservation but they seated us without one. It's a great place to treat yourself after exploring the Luberon or hiking around Sainte-Baume. Highly highly recommended.

Mediterranean food! Delicious! The Kefta pita sandwich ( beef) is full of goodness with lebnah dip as an add on. The pita bread is so soft and pillowy. We ate there twice for lunch. The first time we ordered a platter + dip to share. It is very filling and flavorful food served in a lively atmosphere. If you can make a reservation do or walk in. You may have to wait but it’s well worth it. Desserts looked delicious though we didn’t have room to try.

A cozy restaurant with a spacious, comfortable terrace and plenty of parking available.
The main courses were enjoyable and well prepared, although they leaned more toward classic comfort than memorable culinary surprises. The one exception was the side dish—seasoned crushed potatoes with pieces of olives—which was wonderfully original and absolutely delicious.
The desserts, however, were in a completely different league. The Forêt Noire and the Île Flottante were both exceptional. In fact, the French Forêt Noire easily outshines any version of the German Black Forest cake I’ve ever had. And the Île Flottante was simply heavenly 😊
The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. It was such an unexpected and pleasant surprise to be greeted in Ukrainian by our waitress, Maria. We are especially grateful for her excellent recommendations on both the dishes and the wine, which made our dinner even more enjoyable.

Fantastic little cafe with yummy homemade food. There are vegetarian options. Also the owner was really good and careful with my food allergy. I recommend this place.
Tips for a Stress-Free Family Meal in Aix
While the restaurants on this list are incredibly welcoming, a little local knowledge can make your dining experience even smoother. The rhythm of dining in Provence is slightly different from many other countries, and understanding the local customs regarding meal times and seating will help you avoid hunger-induced meltdowns.
- Embrace the Late Lunch: French restaurants typically serve lunch strictly between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. If you arrive at 11:30 AM, kitchens will likely be closed. To beat the rush and secure a prime terrace table, aim to arrive right at noon.
- Book Ahead for Dinner: Dinner service usually doesn’t begin until 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM. While this is late for very young children, booking the first seating of the evening ensures you get faster service and a quieter dining room before the local crowd arrives later.
- Opt for the "Formule" or "Menu Enfant": Look for the fixed-price lunch menus (formules). They offer incredible value and usually feature faster preparation times than the à la carte options. Most family-friendly spots offer a specific children’s menu featuring a main, a drink, and a dessert.
- Terrace Culture is Your Friend: Aix is famous for its outdoor terraces. Dining al fresco is often easier for families, as the ambient street noise naturally buffers the sound of children, and kids tend to be more entertained by the passersby.
- Don’t Skip the Market: If you want to avoid restaurant fatigue, visit the daily markets at Place Richelme or Place des Prêcheurs. You can assemble a fantastic picnic of fresh bread, cheeses, fruit, and rotisserie chicken to enjoy in the Parc Jourdan or by the Pavillon de Vendôme.
Exploring the culinary landscape of Aix-en-Provence with your family is about creating lasting memories centered around the table. The city’s commitment to fresh, local ingredients means that even the simplest plate of pasta or grilled fish is elevated to something special. By choosing a restaurant that respects both the cuisine and the needs of your children, you set the stage for a relaxing holiday experience.
So, pack your appetite and leave the stress at home. Whether you are sitting under the plane trees sipping a local rosé while the kids enjoy a handmade pizza, or digging into a hearty daube in a cozy bistro, Aix-en-Provence offers a warm welcome to families of all sizes. Bon appétit!
