The area surrounding Valencia’s Central Market is a sensory whirlwind of fresh produce, seafood counters, and the constant clatter of daily commerce. After navigating the bustling stalls and admiring the modernist architecture, finding a quiet corner to recharge becomes essential. Fortunately, the historic streets radiating from this landmark hide some of the city’s most atmospheric and delicious coffee stops.
Whether you are a specialty coffee aficionado hunting for the perfect single-origin pour-over or simply need a strong espresso to fuel your sightseeing, this neighborhood delivers. The dense urban grid of El Mercat and El Carme is packed with options ranging from third-wave minimalist bars to traditional Valencian horchaterías that also pull a mean shot.
The challenge is not finding caffeine; it is finding the right vibe to match your mood. You might want a sunny terrace to people-watch, a cozy interior to escape the midday heat, or a laptop-friendly corner for a quick digital check-in. Each café near the market has its own distinct personality and approach to the bean.
Because this area is a primary target for tourists, it is easy to stumble into a tourist trap with inflated prices and mediocre quality. To help you avoid a disappointing brew, we have curated a list based on bean quality, barista skill, atmosphere, and proximity to the market. This guide prioritizes places that locals actually frequent and respect.
We have personally navigated the narrow alleys and plazas to test the crema, assess the milk texture, and gauge the overall experience. Our focus is on establishments that demonstrate consistency, whether they roast their own beans or source them from top-tier local roasters. You deserve a cup that matches the beauty of the surrounding architecture.
Understanding that your time is limited while traveling, we have organized these options with accessibility in mind. Each location is a short walk from the market, ensuring you can seamlessly integrate a coffee break into your itinerary. Get ready to discover the aromatic heart of Valencia’s old town.
Below is a curated selection of the best coffee shops located within walking distance of the Central Market.

I really love this cafe. The location us fantastic at the Ayuntamiento plaza (city hall). The interior design is amazing - So classy and comfortable. The music is nice as well. The ceiling is high and the colors are light and soft.its very clean from inside. The service is wonderful, and the staff are professional and friendly. The coffee is delicious.
Cherry Blossom Valencia is recommended.

The staff is top shelf. They take care of you. The food is very good, they also have alcohol and wine, it’s the one of my best place. I wish it was open 24 hours a day.
Emily Gartland★★★★★
Traveled Spain for 6 weeks and this is the best café con leche I've had in this country. It surprised me - nutty, deep flavor, not too much foam, a good serving of actual coffee, it comes in a bigger cup than most. The atmosphere is bright, the staff is kind.
Kat Mac★★★★☆
Cakes were edible, staff not interested in serving you. Blossom tree in centre of cafe lovely. Not memorable.
David V.★★★★☆
It’s a very cute place and pet friendly!
Food was good but I ordered pancakes and were small and lacked a bit of flavor. The toppings were good but the pancakes themselves were too small and thin for the price.
Place is very cute and staff super friendly. I was the only one in the place and still took a while so I can’t imagine with more people.

Great little coffee shop . Owner is friendly and very helpful. Service with a smile and very welcoming. Update *** the young adults said all their cold lattes were fantastic ( hazelnut/ vanilla/ Valencia cold brew) and for the adults the espressos were fantastic…. Great way to start a morning.
Colleen McGuigan★★★★★
I passed quite a few coffee shops that just didn’t draw me in until I found La Droqueria. It is small, but with an amazing selection of drinks both hot and cold. My Cafe con leche was expertly made by Jane, who greeted local customers by name and made me feel at home as we discussed the Irish game of hurling. I’m so glad I waited until I found the place that felt just right.
Alexey Gulev★★★★★
The coffee here is excellent. They also have hojicha and matcha, which keeps my lovely wife happy too.

As a big coffee snob I love coming to La Droqueria for my caffeine hit! The quality of the ingredients is amazing and the standard is really consistent. Special mention to Jane who always welcomes you with a smile and is so chatty when making my coffee ☕️ 🤎

This coffee shop is so nice if you are looking for a fast coffee. The location is great. The coffee tastes very good and the desserts as well. A very special thanks to Ms. Pao who is very professional and friendly.

Great little gem of a coffee shop in Valencia. My barista was such a lovely man and a top notch barista! Clean, fresh menu which offers a good range of drinks and snacks.
Great tasting coffee, which is not as strong as I normally like it, but still had a sweet, cocoa taste that is very welcoming for this kind of temperature.
Sokita Maro★★★★★
“I’ve been looking everywhere around Valencia for a genuinely good matcha and honestly most places were disappointing… until I found this spot. The matcha here is AMAZING smooth, rich, high-quality ceremonial taste, perfectly balanced and not overly sweet like most places. You can actually tell they care about the quality of what they serve.
And Carlos made the best matcha for me! Super kind, welcoming, and clearly knows what he’s doing. The whole experience felt cozy and authentic. Definitely my new favorite matcha place in the area. Highly recommend for real matcha lovers 💚”
Marian Taciuc★★★★☆
The flat white was decent, but the cappuccino here in Spain I think is made by a different recipe, they just pour a very aerated milk and put some cacao on top. Just take something else besides cappuccino.

Atmosphere 5-Really cozy and well decorated cafe on a busy lane. Seating and decor is tasteful and well arranged.
Service-4 lots of servers but not a warm feeling from the team.
Food- beautiful displayed and lots to choose from. We had the banana bread that had a great crust on the outside and soft on the inside. Unfortunately the Pavlova was not good. Really weird taste to the cream and the inside was hard to eat. The Canelle was great, really buttery and moist.
Canyoudoitagain★★★☆☆
Considerably more expensive than most coffee shops in Spain, with prices almost on par with the UK, which feels excessive.
The service was also incredibly slow. There was plenty of activity behind the bar, but very little efficiency. Staff would start preparing one coffee, stop to wash dishes, begin another coffee, then go back to finish the first. Even once drinks were ready, they often sat on the counter for several minutes before being served. The workflow clearly needs improving. Making and serving 2–3 coffees per minute should be perfectly achievable during normal service.
On the positive side, the café is cosy and has pleasant seating both indoors and outdoors.
Mykyta Sadkovskyi★★★☆☆
We like this coffee shop, so we came for the delicious coffee, but not this time. Today, the coffee was poured onto a plate and was barely warm. They forgot about dessert and charged us more at the checkout (they immediately refunded it). I hope the service is better next time and the coffee will be hot enough to enjoy with dessert.
Elizaveta Ketova★★★★★
It’s a nice place to have a coffee at.
The service is great, they can make changes in serving your drinks or food. We tried RAF and batch brew there and both of them were excellent. Tarta de miel is all also delicious, but a bit fatty and sweet more than you may expect.
You can drink water for free, it’s pretty rare for Valencia.
In the menu you can find a full list of different types of tea and coffee. One of them we bought for making it at home (spoiler: it is also perfect).
Only one suggestion to make is to consider sugar-free options in the menu.
Valeria Novitskaia★★★★★
This a great and professionally made coffee. There is a choice of different selections, you do need to wait for some time to get it. The beans were good, however I am a fan of more light roasted bins then the dark roasted beans of coffee. Also, I would make the cup or latte smaller - this is a quite big porción- smaller would be much better. There is a need for the waiting time to get your coffee and desert- around 5 minutes. The deserts are exception from the home food deserts which are clearly too good for the soul. I would for sure come back and recommend the place to visit and to try some soul made desserts.

Top notch coffee is an appropriate name for this place as the drinks are amazing. We also tried the matcha which was just as good and comes in many flavours. The staff are so friendly with superb English. A cute, well furnished space with a welcoming feel. We also purchased one of their hats as we liked their branding so much. Definitely pop in for a coffee/drink if you are in Valencia.

What a great place to stop for coffee and a treat. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had. It's delicious. The owners are pleasant and kind. Great coffee - even better people.
Alexey Subach★★★★★
Espresso tonic was good. Iced matcha latte was also very solid and had a prominent green fresh and vibrant flavour. The coconut matcha was great - very balanced, not too sweet and still very fresh and grassy. Almost had green watermelon flavour. I definitely recommend this place for matcha, it was really good
Farah★★★★★
The BEST matcha I’ve found in Valencia, syrups made in house, best quality powder hand whisked, 10/10 flavour, have not been to another matcha spot since!
Carrot cake is moist and fresh, not overly sweet, great balance.
The nicest owners, wish them nothing but success with this business, truly deserve it. Only complaint is that they aren’t in London!
Tom Bird★★★★★
I was looking for a decent coffee spot near Valencia’s old town/historical centre, and this was exactly what I was after. The consistently high ratings are definitely deserved.
I had a double espresso and a pastry, and both were excellent. They had two different beans available when I visited, and I went for the Brazilian, which was great.
From the outside it looks like it’s takeaway only, but there is seating available inside and I was served at my table. Excellent coffee spot.

Here’s my first and probably last post from Valencia that’s not to say there is only one great coffee shop, there are many many many 😁
However I really liked MAYAN … a lovely relaxing business run by a family originally from Guatemala 🇬🇹. Granddad is the boss (quite right too if you ask me 😁) and the rest of the family work hard to make your visit a pleasant one.
Obviously no @cotsaward … this is Europe 😉 … don’t let that put you off just go and enjoy ☕️🍰 😁👍
Oh and COME ON ENGLAND ⚽️🏴⚽️🏴⚽️
Pieke★★★★☆
Nice bar, Mayan themed (as aspected). They had a nice mural to show the coffee chain. The coffee we had (espresso and a cortado) were nice. The espresso was better then the cortado (which was slightly bitter). Very friendly barista. Everything was nice and clean. The only thing that makes a 4-star rating in atmosphere were the notes everywere (don't touch, laptop 30 minute max, you break you buy, etc.) It is probably neccesary but felt a bit negative.
Hitori★★★★★
Early in the morning searching for wholesome meal plus cup of coffee. Went onto Google map and came across this cafe.
Had the Guatemala Breakfast + Flat white coffee.
The Guatemala meal comes with scrambled eggs, salted black beans paste, cheese, plantains and bread. It was delicious.
The coffee is simply out of this world, so rich and aromatic, never tasted coffee like this before. Flat white is a must to try !!!
Kamilla★★★★★
This is my favorite place for coffee and they also have delicious pastries and cheesecakes. I go there often and recommend it to all my friends. The coffee is uniquely delicious, I’ve never tried anything like it anywhere else in the world. The service is very warm and welcoming. Thank you so much!
Barry Haggis★★★★★
A truly wonderful place!
The coffee is great, the food is great, the organice juice is great!
Location: 5* - Right next to the Torres Quart
Service: 5* - I wanted to practice my Spanish and they have been very patient and accommodating. The food was prepared very quickly and so were the other drinks.
Decor: Mayan themed (obviously) but it has a real raw and natural feel to it.
Food & Drink: 5* - The Tortilla was amazing. I have had it for the last two days, and will be coming back every morning. The coffee is some of the best I’ve ever had and the orange juice was so good I could have drank litres (thank god they only put it in a medium glass).
Overall, if you’re coming to Valencia, don’t leave until you’ve tried this place. A true gem.

Very good coffee and matcha. Lovely place to sit in or outside to watch the streets in a pretty street of Valencia. Friendly barista too.

This is one of our go-to coffee spots, and a big reason is the people. Luz is amazing. Her coffee is always spot on, and she is genuinely warm, friendly, and so good at what she does. She makes you feel welcome the second you walk in. Juliana is just as lovely. Kind, attentive, and always smiling. The coffee is great, but the energy they create is what keeps us coming back. Highly recommend.

As someone who is very picky about coffee, I can honestly say this was my favorite coffee spot in Valencia.
The café latte and cappuccino were perfectly balanced, with great flavor and texture. One thing I especially appreciated was that they don’t automatically cover the coffee with chocolate powder. It lets the quality of the beans speak for themselves, exactly as it should.
The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and full of character. They also have beautiful artwork displayed inside, some of which is available for purchase, adding a unique and creative touch to the café.
The owners clearly love coffee and care about what they serve. The food was fresh and tasty, with great options to enjoy alongside your coffee. The service was friendly, warm, and genuine, making the whole experience even better.
I visited many coffee shops during my stay in Valencia, but Paper Cup matched my taste better than any of them. Excellent beans, consistently great coffee, fair prices, and a genuinely happy experience from start to finish.
If you appreciate quality coffee made by people who truly care about their craft, this place is absolutely worth a visit. ☕️🎨✨

I had a great experience at Paper Cup Specialty Coffee in Valencia. The coffee was exceptional—clearly made with high-quality beans and real attention to detail. You can really taste the care that goes into each cup, from the balanced flavors to the perfect extraction.
Overall, Paper Cup is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates specialty coffee. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in Valencia.

Super nice people and serve great coffee. If you're looking for an espresso then definitely you will be satisfied
SkaTer2k★★★☆☆
I’ve had better coffee but it was fine. They have really good doughnuts! The vibe is fine, most of the people were working. It’s lowkey connected to a hostel.
What I don’t like is that there is zero signal and 5G access, but if you want to connect to their wifi, you have to share your email with them. I also think the sitting areas could be better, there are mostly bar chairs. And I also don’t understand why they use plastic cups when you sit inside. I think it’s pointless and also not ecological for no reason.
Hector diaz perez★★★★★
I came here specifically for the cold brew and it did not disappoint. They had real cold brew and not that fake hot coffee with ice that some claim as cold brew. They alternate their choices of coffee so you have a different one in your visits. It's very good
Dara Bukhtoyarova★★★★★
This coffee shop is tucked away in a small alley, so I had no idea it was there until I found it accidentally! Unlike some other Syra coffee shops, this one has some sitting space, which is nice. It shares space with a hostel lobby, I think, and it’s a pretty cool atmosphere. The barista was great and we enjoyed our coffees on a rainy day.

Coffee to go. Inside, there’s only one bar table with two seats.
Good selection of drinks. I got an Americano ☕️ and a croissant 🥐
The coffee was quite good. But the croissant felt rubbery — I didn’t like it at all. Definitely not worth the price, I think it was €2.50.

Small coffee shop serving excellent coffee with a great menu of options (including all
The non-dairy milks for those who don’t have dairy). Great coffee with different varieties on offer. Decaffeinated coffee is excellent too. Coffee is very reasonable price yoo (half price of uk or Ireland)

I’ve ordered vanilla matcha latte and it was marvellous. I love the atmosphere of this place and also vibe of the girl, who is working here. Bake goods looked appealing alike
Lok-Yin★★★★☆
The coffee was nice, but the bagel was a bit mid. I had the one with cream cheese, avocado and dried tomatoes and I wished i had pieces of dried tomatoes instead of a paste. The cinnamon latte was really nice and the salmon bagel as well.
A. P.★★★☆☆
If you OK with an espresso from a fully automatic machine - you can ignore my review. However, if an espresso is associated with a professional coffee machine - find a better place - there are plenty better options in the downtown
Otherwise the staff is friendly

Great coffee shop and super tasty! The decaf cappuccino was just perfect and a great size. Prices are decent and the flavor is just so good. The location is perfect right near all the central downtown attractions and close to the Colon metro station. Will definitely be back, highly recommended!

Guys, if you’re looking for really good coffee — yes, this is the place.
However, when it comes to food… sorry, but an €8 toast is just not okay for me. In my opinion, it simply shouldn’t cost that much.
(Tostada de aguacate y queso feta)
Sara elbachouti★☆☆☆☆
Ordered an iced chai latte for €5 and it was basically just a cup of milk with a hint of chai somewhere in the distance. I kept waiting for the spices or tea flavor to show up, but they never did. For that price, I expected an actual chai latte, not milk with a vague memory of chai. Pretty disappointing.
Darren Brown★★☆☆☆
Coffee was okay but was served cold and then when I asked if they could make a hot one for me, they put the same coffee in the microwave 😟…. Probably not likely to return 😕. Staff was otherwise friendly but don’t think this was the appropriate action and not at prices for coffee these days. You can’t say you’re a specialty coffee place if that’s the kind of service you provide.
Tips for Enjoying Coffee Near Central Market
To make the most of your coffee crawl in this historic district, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The rhythm of the day here is unique, with busy mornings giving way to a sleepy siesta and a vibrant late-afternoon resurgence. Knowing when to go and what to order will dramatically improve your experience.
- Embrace the "Café con Hielo" in Summer: Valencia gets intensely hot. If you want an iced coffee, order a "café con hielo." You will typically receive a hot espresso and a glass full of ice; you pour the espresso over the ice and add sugar to taste. It is the authentic local way to cool down.
- Stand at the Bar for Lower Prices: Many traditional spots in Spain charge a premium for table service (terraza or mesa). If you are on a budget or in a hurry, drink your coffee standing at the bar. It is also the best way to chat with the barista and soak in the local atmosphere.
- Check the Roasting Date: If you are visiting a specialty coffee shop, look for bags with a recent roasting date. Valencia’s specialty scene is booming, and freshness is key. Don’t be afraid to ask the barista which bean they recommend for your preferred brew method.
- Mind the Siesta Hours: While the Central Market itself closes in the afternoon, many surrounding cafés remain open, but some smaller, owner-operated shops might close between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Check the specific hours of your intended destination if you are planning an afternoon visit.
- Pair Coffee with a Local Sweet: Skip the generic croissant and try a "fartón" (a sweet, elongated bun dusted with sugar) if available, or a small slice of "coca de llanda." These local pastries pair beautifully with both coffee and the traditional horchata.
Exploring the coffee scene near the Central Market offers more than just a caffeine fix; it provides a window into the daily life of Valencia. You will see market workers taking their morning break, artists sketching in the corners, and families gathering for an afternoon treat. The fusion of historic settings with modern coffee culture creates a unique atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere in the city.
Whether you choose a hidden specialty bar or a century-old café, the quality of the coffee is only part of the story. It is the pause, the view of the stone streets, and the aroma mixing with the scent of fresh oranges from the market stalls that makes the experience memorable. Take your time, put the map down, and enjoy the ritual.
