Menton often gets overshadowed by its flashier neighbors along the French Riviera, but that is precisely what makes it a smart choice for budget-conscious travelers. Known as the "Pearl of France," this pastel-hued town offers a unique microclimate, lush gardens, and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere that feels worlds away from the congestion of Nice or Monaco. Staying here allows you to experience the glamour of the Côte d’Azur without paying a premium for a sea view.
However, finding affordable lodging in a coastal resort town can be a challenge, especially during the peak summer months and the famous Fête du Citron in February. The secret to saving money in Menton lies in knowing where to look, whether that means staying slightly uphill from the sea, choosing a family-run establishment, or visiting during the shoulder seasons. A cheap hotel in Menton does not have to mean sacrificing comfort or cleanliness.
Many of the best budget options in this border town are independently owned, offering a level of personalized service that large chains simply cannot match. You can often find charming two-star and three-star properties that provide authentic French character, from Belle Époque facades to terraces overlooking the Mediterranean. These hotels allow you to spend less on your room and more on experiencing the local cuisine, such as the famous Menton lemon tart.
The geography of Menton plays a significant role in hotel pricing. While beachfront properties command top dollar, moving just a few streets back from the Promenade du Soleil can drastically reduce your nightly rate. Because the town center is highly walkable, staying in a slightly less central location often means you are still only a five or ten-minute stroll from the sand and the historic old town.
For travelers arriving by train, the area surrounding the Gare de Menton offers several practical and inexpensive lodging options. This location is particularly advantageous for those planning day trips to Italy, as the border town of Ventimiglia is just one stop away. These hotels offer exceptional value by prioritizing convenience and function over luxury amenities.
Below is a curated list of the best affordable accommodations in Menton. Each property has been selected for its balance of price, location, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction, ensuring you get the most value for your money on the French Riviera.

For 160 Euros in July way to expensive for the value. Would only recommend for around 50 Euros. Room was humid. Bad smell in the shower from the sink. In the night it was not complete dark. You can hear the cars a bit. Bed was not comfortable. Breakfast very basic. Sure, it’s really budget, but according the price my stay was not recommended. View on the harbor and sea was nice. To walk to menton in 20mins was also good. For one night it’s okay. Self Checkin on the counter (make a photo of your code!). Parking Garage was full. On the street there are many but you need to find one and set your blue time park card.

By far the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had.
The hotel claims to offer parking, but upon arrival you discover that there are only very few, highly limited spots. We tried repeatedly to contact the hotel the entire day before arrival to inform them of our late check-in, calling at least a dozen times at different points between morning and evening, but were never able to reach anyone.
When we finally arrived at night, there was no staff on site whatsoever. Instead, we were greeted by a torn piece of paper, crudely taped to the door, suggesting we park on the street — where parking is limited to three hours at a time. Completely unacceptable.
There is a self check-in machine that provides a passcode to enter both the property and the room. However, no ID is requested or verified at any stage, which seriously raises questions about security and who you are sharing the property with. This was the first time we’ve ever stayed at a hotel in Europe without having our IDs checked, and it felt extremely unsafe.
The absence of any staff overnight is alarming. What happens in case of a fire? If someone gets stuck in the elevator? If the keypad stops working? The lack of basic safety and support is honestly shocking.
The rooms are small, worn, and poorly maintained, with visible mould and stains in the bathroom. While expectations are obviously lower for a budget hotel, this goes far beyond “basic” — it’s simply run down.
To be fair, the location is good: the hotel is literally in front of the sea, which is a plus. That said, it’s about a 20-minute walk from the town centre, something to be aware of if you plan to explore on foot.
The photos used to promote the property are also highly misleading. The supposed balcony overlooking the port looked nothing like what is shown online. For the first time ever staying with Accor, we genuinely felt scammed. We’ve stayed in hostels that offered far better quality, cleanliness, and service.
Budget does not have to mean unsafe, misleading, or neglected. This place is a tourist trap. Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere.

Horrible experience with my stay. I originally booked due to having no access to my apartment and thus needed a place to stay in for 3 weeks. Let me say, absolutely horrible. We arrived at 9:15 to the hotel, with obviously no staff available at check-in. Initially, this is no problem, however the machine that is supposed to be there for after-hours check-in CRASHED while we tried to pay for our night. We had to stand outside the hotel in the middle of the night because of the computer crashing. Second, when we entered the hotel there was a weird smell of fish in the hallways. The room is not bad for a 4 day stay, but let me warn you in saying it is TINY. When they say budget, they stretched out the meaning of the word. My family and I have stayed at other ibis hotels before, even other ibis budgets, but this has had to be by far the worst one I have been to. It has been 1 night and I already plan on checking out tomorrow and demanding for a refund. Please do not waste your money here unless you are truly on a tight budget, because I have to say that you do not even get what you pay for.

Reception was supposed to open at 1600 but no one was there and several of us were waiting around for a little while. Checking was straightforward as I’d done it online. Our room was next to the elevator but we heard nothing. Double bed room was very tight in size, the balcony was bigger! Bathroom was very workable. Very clean. The bed was very comfortable. A fairly typical Ibis room.

Very good location
2 minutes from train station and if you drive you have parking as well in train station
Near town and near beach
Rooms are okey not high class but what you pay for Menton is reasonable
Overall I would recommend
If you go by car better book online if you staying longer than 24 hours,is cheaper

It is okay for a short stay, however:
- no soap in the bathroom (?!)
- only one towel per person
- could really use some renovation

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was clean and spacious with a lovely view. I thought that being near the station and being a light sleeper could be a problem but it wasn't at all, it was really quiet. The exposed brick decor was really cute and we really liked the view of the mountains from our windows. The staff were lovely and friendly, especially the guy who did our check-in and check-out. We would definitely recommend!
Marjorie Martinez★★★☆☆
It's clean and close to everything but that includes the train so you could heard then from very early in the morning but still, I would say it's quite. However, I wouldn't spend more than a night there. The rooms are very small but comfortable. They could make an effort to serve a better quality breakfast.

Bed bugs! Took me a while to realise what was happening because I've never had a run-in with bed bugs before. My husband and I spent 4 nights at the hotel, and I noticed a few itchy buttons on one hand after the second night. After the third night, there were a few more bites, now on both hands. The fourth and final night was the absolute worst. I woke up at 3 am, itching like crazy, with fresh bites mostly on my hands and legs. To avoid putting a damper on my trip, I took pictures and decided I'll deal with the matter when my vacation ends.
The following week, I wrote the company advising of what transpired, and they chose to gaslight me. They said there's no way I was bitten at the hotel because guests stayed in the same room before and after me and did not complain. They offered that I probably got bitten on public transport, which I did not use while in Menton.
I would say, though, that my husband slept in the same room on a separate bed, and was only bitten once.
I also saw one other review on here that mentions bed bugs, so maybe the issue is in its early stages.
Regardless, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, not only because of the bed bugs, but because of their less than average response to my concern.

We did a 1 night stop here early April and found the hotel comfortable and clean. It was near the train station and was easy to walk to the old town and down to the beach. Loved Menton and this hotel was perfect for our one night stay
Carmen Rodriguez★★★☆☆
Very close to the train station, close enough to the beach, good value hotel - the a/c is good, it’s next to a school so the noise level can be a bit high at times but quiet at night. The staff is lovely and helpful, the breakfast is decent enough. The patio is lovely to sit in.
There is no elevator, and the hallway/staircase is a little creepy at night. The decor is a bit shabby, and rooms are basic but offer everything you need - note there are no hair dryers.

It’s a 2-star hotel, so don’t expect a lot of amenities. But the manager is very friendly and super conscientious about her place. Breakfast was quite good and the well manicured garden is a great place to relax. Great location!

Had a wonderful stay here with a friend. The convenience can't be beat. Located across from the train station you might think it would be noisy - but it absolutely is not. If you travel to Menton by train you can take an elevator to the street level. The hotel is less than 5 minutes away. The location is perfect for wandering around Menton. Staff shared lots of ideas for our visit (we were there for the Fête du citron) and were more than accommodating. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast room is lovely. Loved our stay!

Loved our stay here. The hotel is close to the train station but the hotel is quiet. From the station for those with luggage - cross the plaza and take an elevator down to the street. Take a right and the hotel is just down the street to your left. The staff is lovely, extremely helpful and the rooms are bright and comfortable. The hotel is walkable to everything. Highly recommend.

This is the gold standard of what a 3-star hotel should be, and more.
This is my second time staying here for a couple of nights for work, and once again it did not disappoint. The hotel feels modern and fresh, with spacious rooms and no carpets, which I personally really appreciate.
The staff are excellent, the location is great, and the hotel always feels lively with a good atmosphere. I also really like the design of the reception area. Breakfast is very good for this category of hotel.
Accor is clearly competing with Marriott International’s Moxy Hotels for who can offer the coolest budget hotel concept, and I must say this property is setting the bar. I’ve stayed in quite a few Moxys, and this place genuinely stands out.
Worth every penny.

We had a wonderful stay at this Ibis hotel. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and offered great value for money. What made our stay truly memorable was the exceptional service we received from KIMELYA at the front desk. She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, patient, and always willing to help with a smile. From check-in to answering our questions, she made us feel genuinely cared for and valued as guests. Her professionalism and kindness created a fantastic first impression and made our stay even more enjoyable. Thank you, KIMELYA, for your outstanding hospitality! We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. KIMELYA is a true asset to the hotel, and she absolutely deserves recognition for her excellent service.

It is a great location to travel to both Menton and Monte Carlo. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Spend 4 days at Ibis Roquebrune in order to visit Monaco.
The hotel was only 5 minutes walk to the train station and from there was another 5 min train to Monaco.
The room was good dimension and very clean, spotless I might say.
The breakfast was fairly complete.
The car park is underground and secured and provided me peace of mind while exploring Monaco. The entrance of the car park can be challenging for big cars but as I got a small car there was no issues for me.
Just a shame there was no restaurant inside the hotel but there is a supermarket (for a quick snack) literally in a 1 min walk. For restaurants, around 10/15 minutes walking.
Really nice experience... recommended!

We stayed at Hotel Louvia for a weekend stay in Menton. The hotel is situated in an incredible location close to all local amenities: train station, beach, restaurants and bars, supermarket and market. The hotel staff gave us a walm welcome and went above and beyond to give us all the information we needed for our stay. Super friendly and kind! Our rooms were stylish, clean, and comfortable. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we slept well. The hotel certainly contributed to a fun, stress-free weekend exploring the delights of Menton. We will be going back again soon.

I’ve stayed at the Hotel Richelieu/Hotel Louvia for the past five years every summer. The hotel is delightful, cosy and boutique and uniquely decorated, the staff are fantastic and its location in the centre of Menton is just superb. I’m a motorcyclist travelling from England, I always request the same room and I normally arrive at 10.00-10.30 in the morning. I’m always offered a place to change and leave my luggage until check in. I cannot rate this little hotel highly enough and I shall be back here for many years to come. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

We visited here at the beginning of June for our 60th birthdays. When we got to the room the staff had decorated it with balloons and a few little gifts. We couldn’t believe it. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The hotel is very clean, comfortable, and well maintained.
I would especially like to thank Mr. Gregory at the reception. He is an amazing and very kind person. He helped us a lot by arranging a parking space for us, which made our stay much easier.
The most unforgettable part of our stay was when we had to check out very early, around 3:00 AM. Even at that early hour, Mr. Gregory kindly arranged a quick breakfast for us. It was truly unbelievable and the first time in my life I have experienced such thoughtful hospitality.
His kindness and professionalism made our stay extra special. Mr. Gregory is truly a great asset to the hotel.

We stayed in May for 5 nights. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Very good location. We had a room in 5th floor towards the street. Nice balcony. But there were a lot of noice and traffic from street. And it started very early in the morning also. And there is quite poor sound isolation as well from the doors and windows. So you could be woken up very early.

Despite the age of the hotel, still at good level. Only wifi did not work despite explanation card. We stay there for 4 nights, and we are not so satisfied with the hotel. Everything was ok, but issues like very weak lightning in the bathroom, missing 230V sockets at the beds (in the room was only 2 socket - one for TV in two meters high and second for the lamp on the floor, both on the other side of the beds)....weak air conditioning, missing shelf in the shower, details but ... This hotel is not so suitable for longer stays. On the other hand, they serve good breakfasts, hotel has own underground parking and is possible to use small pool in the other block.
Julia Williams★★☆☆☆
Beautiful beach nearby but shocking rooms, not tea or coffee facilities considering one booked was a premium room. They mucked up the rooms even though we had confirmation of they being adjoined, so had to wait for that to be sorted. Parking, if your car is bigger than a Ford escort, i would bother just park on the street. Our Ford mondeo estate only just managed to get in the underground parking, and that was only because spaces behind were available to do a 50-point turn to get down the hill. 🤣
Breakfast is a rip off at €9 each and tried telling me how old my daughters wee even though one if tall for her age and wanted to charge adult prices.
Pool OK if it was floating with sunscreen on top and had to walk out of the hotel and into another building to find it.
Helen Zakipour★☆☆☆☆
Hotel's building was very old and oud dated. We had to change our room 3 times. One room did not have WIFI and the other one no air condition.
Electrical plugs were in the very odd places inside a closet and on the top of the closet that we need a chair to reach there.
They charged 9 euros for breakfast which was very low quality .
Altogether this was the worst hotel we stayed in our trip to south France in June 2022 and the cost was even higher than other paces we stayed in the same area.

Excellent location, close to beach, public transportation, shops, supermarket and restaurant. Nice, clean room with modern furniture, by no means basic. Value for the money tough to beat near Monaco. Monaco only 8 minutes away by train.

WiFi doesn't connect, private parking damages cars and staff stealing.
Chose this hotel because it is advertised as having WiFi and private parking. The WiFi is completely unusable and refuses to stay connected. Secondly the parking is almost impossible as you have to negotiate a lower basement level accessible only by an almost impossible left hand turn. To quote the receptionist on my arrival "Unfortunately, we've already had two separate customers this morning upset because they have damaged their cars."
Thirdly, and most importantly, my room was accessed to make it up despite the fact that I had not put out the 'make my room up please' card. During this time an Egyptian bath towel which I'd brought from home was taken. The hotel denied taking it and the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and said "what can I do?" After that I felt I couldn't trust them so put the red 'do not disturb' card on the door for the rest of my stay. They didn't even offer to replace or pay for it.
Lastly, I was bitten all over each night. Definitely not mosquitos but bed bugs.
Oh and that's the first hotel I've been asked to pay in full before getting your key. Much better places to stay locally.
On a positive note, the hotel is only a short walk from the seafront and I had a balcony with table and chairs which I didn't expect.

Asked for last minute accomodation, the only room left was the one they show to guests. She showed it to us briefly, it was dark due to being in the basement but it had a patio, and the air conditioning was very cold, so we accepted.
Unfortunately it was not clean. After settling in, the smell of mold and mildew started to become overwhelming. The shower and bathroom were very moldy, the closet was water stained and moldy, the air conditioner was moldy. The corners were not swept, the surfaces were dusty, grime and grunge everywhere, doors, handles, and walls had never been wiped off. Very shabby interior with broken tiles and fixtures.
They should have never sold this room, they should have said they were full booked. It was really disgusting.
Edit: Like I said, they explained it was the show room. What does this have to do with it being filthy? They're acting like the did me an enormous favor - I told them I knew it was last minute and it was okay of they didn't have a room. Plenty of other hotels still had rooms. I had a few seconds to glance at it in very dim lighting; was I supposed to do a full inspection to see whether they did the bare minimum job of keeping their show room clean? If the room isn't usually offered to guests, why was it so gross?

Stayed here for one night as i started my exploration of the south coast of france, i was greeted on arrival with Chaima on reception, i was a little early but she checked and as the room was ready i was able to check in early (no extra charge) the room was very clean, with balcony doors that with a partial sea view and the room had everything i need for my one night stopover, soap, towels hairdryer etc. It is located on the beach front so it was easy to walk to Menton and back, nice flat walk no steps. I hadn’t paid much for this hotel i think about €80 and it was much better than i expected, also the Mento festival was on, so i would expect the price of the room could have been more.

Fantastic hotel, arrived by motorcycle and the roads and beach were packed, I would recommend parking next to the hotel (on the left as you look at it from the beach) while you unpack as the owners were very accommodating and invited me to bring my motorcycle into the compound.
Rooms were nice, I opted for a balcony room which was high up with nice views, a little noise from the front but nothing by the evening.
would 100% stay again, as a solo traveler it was ideal.

The hotel is located next to the promenade in Cap Martin. Room number 10, where I stayed, categorically corresponds more to the rank of 2 stars. The room was clean but small. There is no power socket on the headboard by the bed. The dinner we had as a group upon arrival was disappointing, while the breakfast was correct and fine. The staff was friendly. All in all, for a short stay and if you don't have any special requirements, the accommodation is OK.

My stay in Menton was delightful.
The room was thoughtfully designed, offering comfortable space with a huge balcony overlooking the beach.
The bathroom was particularly well-designed; good space, convenient shelving, and a comfortable shower.
While the overall experience was excellent, minor improvements could include adding power outlets by the bedside and offering more diverse breakfast options beyond the traditional sweet French breakfast 🙂

Because you will regret it and you will struggle to get your deposit back even if the booking is flexible.
The accountant was not professional, however the reception team was ok.
Advice
If you want to book room at
Hotel Dolce then book through booking websites like Expedia because when you cancel you will get your deposit easy while it was a struggle to get my deposit by direct booking.
Good luck

The hotel is terrible, everything was fine on the first day, but on the second, when we returned from a walk, there was water leaking from the roof in the room. Of course, they moved us, but when we moved, they made us wait 3 hours, although they just needed to put up a third bed (there were 3 of us). They said that they had to wait for some people for 3 hours. And even when we moved to the new In the new room, there was nothing in the minibar. It was empty. No drinks, no food. The receptionists spoke English, only a little. And regarding the flooding in the room, they said that this happens every month.

The room were pretty good, clean and quite for 3 nights, suitable for 1-2 person, friendly and nice staff members. Menton Garavan train station is 5-10 minutes on foot, the beach is just 300 meters. City center, old town of Menton are also in walking distance
So overall the location is unbeatable!

The information pamphlet was very clear and had easy to understand instructions. Although the room was small it was quite clean and cosy and the beds were comfortable. The space was well used with the bunk beds and the Murphy bed. The Murphy bed was modern and easy to use. The air conditioning unit provided quiet comfort in the heat of the day and the cool night. Front staff were very friendly. I like the fact that you could borrow games from reception.

Nice place for families, apartments are well equipped for the stay

The residence is a middle class place; but 1. within the check in , I don’t now why they offered a room on the 2nd floor where the repair was taken place; as a result I was poisoned by an oil smell and called for a doctor; 2. I ordered a room with 1 sofa and 1 bunk bed: as a result I was given a room with one sofa and my friend should rent another apartment with prices of a high season; 3. No possibility to agree with the nation: only their decision, all problems -are only through the court

Decent place, just off town centre, lots of traffic but most rooms seem to be far enough away from main road to be quiet during day and night.
Room was well equipped, clean, tidy, with most domestic tools and gadgets.

Would stay in there again if ever I went back to that part of France.
How to Find the Best Value Stays in Menton
Securing a great deal in Menton requires a bit of strategy, especially if you are traveling during the high season. While the hotels listed above offer excellent value, your final price will depend heavily on when you book and how flexible you are with your dates. By understanding the local tourism patterns, you can often lock in a rate that is significantly lower than the average.
- Travel in the Shoulder Season: The best rates are found in April, May, late September, and October. The weather is still warm enough for swimming and sunbathing, but the crowds have thinned out, and hoteliers lower their prices compared to July and August.
- Look for "City View" Rooms: If you are on a strict budget, skip the "Sea View" upgrade. A room facing the mountains or the town is often significantly cheaper, and you will likely spend most of your time outside exploring anyway.
- Leverage the Train Station Location: Staying near the train station isn’t just convenient; it is often cheaper. Since Menton is so compact, you are only a 10-minute walk from the beach, making these hotels a smart trade-off for budget travelers.
- Check for Weekly Rates: Many family-run hotels in Menton offer discounts for extended stays. If you plan to use Menton as a base to explore the Riviera for a week or more, email the hotel directly to ask about a "tarif dégressif" (degressive rate).
- Be Aware of Event Pricing: The Fête du Citron (Lemon Festival) in February causes hotel prices to spike. If you are visiting during this time, book months in advance. Conversely, November and January offer the lowest prices of the year for those who don’t mind cooler weather.
- Parking Considerations: If you are driving, always check if the hotel has private parking or if you need to use public garages. Parking fees in Menton can add €15-€20 per day to your trip, which can quickly negate the savings from a cheap room.
Ultimately, choosing a cheap hotel in Menton allows you to experience one of the most charming corners of the French Riviera without financial stress. The money you save on accommodation can be redirected toward unforgettable experiences, such as dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant like Mirazur or taking a scenic boat trip along the coast.
Whether you are a solo backpacker, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a family looking for a sunny escape, Menton has a budget-friendly bed waiting for you. By staying in one of these affordable gems, you can enjoy the town’s unique blend of French and Italian culture while keeping your wallet happy.
