12 Best Cheap Hotels in Bordeaux

Finding affordable accommodation in Bordeaux doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort, location, or the charm that makes this French city so irresistible. While the city is known for its grand wine estates and upscale dining, the hotel landscape is surprisingly diverse. Savvy travelers can easily find well-priced rooms that serve as a perfect base for exploring the UNESCO-listed architecture and vibrant riverside culture.

Budget-conscious visitors often worry that “cheap” translates to “remote” or “unclean,” but Bordeaux defies that stereotype. The city has invested heavily in tourism infrastructure, leading to competitive pricing among modern chains and boutique guesthouses alike. Whether you are a solo backpacker, a couple on a city break, or a business traveler watching expenses, there is a bed waiting for you.

The key to finding value in Bordeaux is understanding the geography. Staying just outside the hyper-touristic “Golden Triangle” can slash your nightly rate significantly while keeping you within a short tram ride of the Garonne riverfront. Neighborhoods like the Gare Saint-Jean district or the area around the Bassins à Flot offer excellent connectivity and lower price points.

This guide focuses on establishments that offer exceptional value, generally keeping rates low without compromising on cleanliness or safety. We have evaluated properties based on guest reviews, proximity to public transport, and the quality of amenities relative to their price. You don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy the wine capital of the world.

From cozy independent hotels tucked away on cobblestone streets to reliable budget brands that offer consistency, the options below cover a range of travel styles. Each selection has been vetted for its ability to provide a comfortable night’s sleep, a decent location, and that essential French hospitality.

Here is our curated selection of the best cheap hotels in Bordeaux that prove you can travel smart without emptying your wallet.

There's a bedbug, and also the staff entered our room without asking at 06:58am like what is going on with this hotel. Really really bad experience😊

The bed was very simple, toilets floor was always wet from autowash system water, simple plastic cabin shower. Very warm staff though. Overall, nice and quite cheap for a short stay when you just come in to sleep and have stuff to do in the city. No restaurants around.

If you need safe, not expensive place to stay in Bordeaux I recommend staying at Hotel F1. They have closed gate which makes great safety feature for France, blackout windows to sleep well at night and hot coffee or tea for your morning (I haven’t tried breakfast as I had my own food). Price/quality ratio is great. If you’re student or professional driver crossing Bordeaux I definitely recommend Hotel F1. We booked a cheapest room, but it was cozy, and had all of the necessities to stay for the night.

I arrived at 14:00 for check-in, and the card machine doesn’t even work. The “emergency contact” number on it is completely useless — nobody ever answers, or the numbers are just unavailable. I tried everything, and there is literally no one around. Even the cleaning lady had no idea what was going on. When I finally managed to get into the room, 1 hour after my arrival, it was absolutely horrible. There is no desk as promised in the reservation, there’s mold on the walls, spider webs, and the room is filthy. There isn’t even any soap provided. The bed coverlet smells awful, like it hasn’t been properly washed — or maybe not washed at all. I honestly feel uncomfortable touching anything — it’s that dirty. This place is in awful condition and clearly not maintained. Even if the price is cheap, I PAID for this, and I expected at least basic cleanliness and service. Totally unacceptable experience — I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

It's a relatively fine place to stay for the night if you're passing by Bordeaux while on a trip and if you’re on a budget. It's pet friendly, as you pay 3€ per pet per night you stay. And you pay 6,50€ for a buffet style breakfast and you can't really complain about it. However the rooms are really small, and so are the bathrooms. There's only one power outlet in the room and It's not near any of the beds. Walls are thin so you can end up hearing noises coming from the hallway and doors opening and closing. The hotel WIFI is horribly unusable. Breakfast is officially stated to be available from 6:30 AM onwwards but during my stay it took a staffmember 45 minutes to open the room for people to eat. However they were friendly enough. Can't speak much about the surrounding area.

A basic hotel great for a overnight stop Staff very helpful and friendly No frills ...Clean room ... Comfortable beds Breakfast good and good value for money

The worst accommodation conditions!!! we arrived at midnight; although I had a reservation, the machine did not accept payment with Visa or Master card!! after 30 minutes of trying I managed to pay with a credit card... the staff who answer the emergency number only speaks French; it was simply impossible to communicate! When you make shower, the water flows under the bathroom door directly into the room! I have never seen a breakfast without eggs or meat before except at this miserable Hotel; the rooms/bathroom are full of mold, spiders and dust; I think there are better conditions in Africa than this Hotel, I will never come back and I do not recommend it to anyone. 😬
Katie Johnson★☆☆☆☆
Holes in wall. No hand soap. Bathroom smelled like sewage backup. Shower didn’t drain. AC turned off in the middle of every night so we woke up sweating. We stayed here to be close to the Olympic stadium and it was still 20 mins walking and 20 mins from public transit station. No elevator and very dim hallway/stair lights.

We had a great stay at this hotel—service was excellent and the staff were warm, helpful, and attentive throughout. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, making for a comfortable experience. The location was also a big plus, with easy access to key attractions and transport. Overall, a very pleasant and convenient place to stay.
Galina Lokshina★★★☆☆
Very basic room. Way too small. Toilet and shower are in different illogically designed positions. Was just one towel for the 2 of us. Electric socket near provided teapot wasn't working. Just one working socket near the entrance. Additional stars for service only because they had cherries at breakfast. Otherwise basic level service, they even rejected sending a card for me as I was running to the airport (of course I offered to pay for the stamp). Location is wonderfully central though. Straight tram line to the airport too.
Simon Valentine★★★★★
What a great hotel, stayed here for a long weekend. Superb location on a quiet side street but still in the middle of the main area. Staff were really helpful and when we left some clothes in the room posted them back to us straight away. Rooms not huge but big enough and well equipped, bed was really comfortable.
Viktor jonsson★★★★★
Maybe we got lucky but I had a lovely time here. The staff was absolutely great. The older man was especially welcoming and the younger woman was equally lovely. The room was rustic but clean, not too much noise. Good pressure in the shower and a lot of hot water . We had a balcony and to be able to sit out there and enjoy the view was amazing. I think there is only one room with a balcony though but I'm not sure.
Mr Foodnpiste★★★★☆
I liked the olde worlde ambience of this hotel. A great location within walking distance of Aerport tram and major Bordeaux attractions plenty of cafes and bars nearby. The bed was very clean and comfortable. The water was hot and strong. A window opens onto the laneway for a cooling breeze. But these rooms are small as advised. En-suite shower and toilet are very small. The shower head does not hang up by it self so 1 handed showers are a bit cumbersome and plenty of water sprays out of the shower. Ventilation is in situ but an extra fan may be an improvement. Great value for money and there is an elevator for guest use.

Elisabeta Aionese★☆☆☆☆
This is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at. In the morning, there was no running water in the bathroom. The breakfast was extremely disappointing, with only jam, pastries, some bread, ham, and cheese. If you have the chance, I highly recommend eating somewhere else. The room was damp, the bed sheets were inside out, and one of the pillows didn’t even have a pillowcase. I felt uncomfortable sleeping there, and my skin was itchy the entire time. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience, and I would not recommend staying here.
Tijn Va Blokland★☆☆☆☆
When I booked this place — and even later during check-in — there was absolutely no mention that major “roof maintenance” would be taking place during my stay. As a result, there was no air conditioning and virtually no ventilation available. The only solution offered was to leave the window open, which provided no relief from the heat and instead brought in mosquitoes along with constant noise from the nearby highway.
S Chen★☆☆☆☆
We stayed at this hotel from 13–19 June 2026 and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we discovered an ant infestation in our original room, making it unsuitable for normal use. The hotel moved us to another room and informed us that we could remain there for the rest of our stay. However, the following morning we were unexpectedly told that we had to move again because the previous arrangement had resulted from an internal staff error. As we were travelling for professional purposes, being asked to repeatedly pack and relocate caused significant disruption to our schedule. What was most frustrating was that the hotel repeatedly asked us to accommodate their mistakes rather than taking responsibility for them. The replacement room that was supposedly inspected before our arrival also contained ants. We documented the issue and ultimately ended up back in the same room we had been asked to leave earlier that day. Throughout the entire process, we never received a direct apology from management. We were repeatedly told that the manager would review the situation and discuss a resolution. However, despite multiple messages and several days of waiting, we checked out without ever receiving a response from the manager. Mistakes can happen in any hotel. What matters is how they are handled. Unfortunately, the combination of pest issues, repeated room changes, poor communication, and the complete lack of managerial follow-up made this one of the most frustrating hotel experiences we have had. We cannot recommend this property based on our experience, particularly given the complete lack of management response despite multiple reports and repeated assurances that the matter would be reviewed.
Sharon D.★★★★☆
It was a great location within easy walking distance to the conference center, tram, and restaurants (particularly the Italian restaurant a few blocks away). For a budget hotel, the room was comfortable and the breakfast options were good. I woke up to the wonderful aroma of freshly baked croissants each day.
Hugo Marques Correia★☆☆☆☆
It was very disappointing. When we got to the room, the bed wasn't ready, we went to reception and they didn't offer any solution. It seems unacceptable to me to arrive in a hotel room and still have to put the sheet on the bed, the sheets, as well as the duvet cover. I also regret the cleanliness, as the bed had a lot of dust on it, as well as traces of blood. An experience not to be repeated with your hotel chain.

A lovely little gem on the Rue de Notre Dame. Caring staff. When one of us was ill during our stay they went out of their way to let us stay an extra day without changing rooms. Great location. Able to walk to the old city and many restaurants.

A gem of a hotel: ideal neighbourhood location in Chartrons, near tram and also walkable to the centre. Room impeccably clean, comfy bed. Will happily stay here again when returning to Bordeaux. Merci Patricia pour votre gentillesse — à bientôt !

I stayed at Hôtel Notre Dame in Bordeaux for two nights during a business trip, and overall, it was a good choice for the price. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it offers a solid quality-price balance, making it a great option for a short stay. The room was comfortable, and the staff was welcoming and helpful. They also offer room service, which was a nice touch. One thing to note is that there’s no elevator to the third floor, so you have to take the stairs. It wasn’t an issue for me since I was out most of the day, but it’s something to keep in mind. If you're looking for a simple, well-located, and reasonably priced hotel in Bordeaux, Hôtel Notre Dame is a good pick. Just be prepared for the stairs if you have a room on the upper floors!
WASTED TALENT MAGAZINE★★★★★
More than happy with Hotel Notre Dame. Great location. Everything was as expected for the price. Anaïs was extremely helpful and a real credit to establishment. We would definitely stay again.
Laura Salcedo★☆☆☆☆
Not only do they fail in providing a satisfactory service, but they also audaciously respond to customer reviews on Google with falsehoods in an attempt to improve their reputation. We rented a room from the 22nd to the 23rd of November, at a rate of €96 per night. On the morning of the 23rd, while we were taking a bath, the water supply was interrupted due to excessive consumption. A staff member from the reception came to inform us of this situation just a couple of minutes before the water supply was cut off. Consequently, we had no choice but to leave the hotel without even being able to brush our teeth. We are certain that we are not confusing your establishment with another; however, we certainly wish we had chosen a different hotel. The least you could do is acknowledge your inadequate service and offer an apology for it.

Excellent hostel! Very cute, in a quiet and beautiful location surrounded by a few restaurants, pharmacy, an eco store, nearby laundromat. In very close proximity to boulangeries, small grocer, tonnes of restaurants and cafes near the train station (which is very handy). Buses are just a few minutes away to easily get around the centre. The staff were helpful, but one particular young lady who worked of a Sunday evening during my stay, thank you for being so friendly and sweet!! Rooms were cosy and plenty of privacy but I don't think it's ideal for someone who is claustrophobic as you feel enclosed. Bathroom/ toilet facilities were great, clean. One of the showers I used has mould in the ceiling which should be looked into. The kitchen facilities were great. The mess left was from other hostel stayers which were very dirty so not the fault of the hotel. The facilities were cleaned daily and they had large lockers which was excellent. I would stay here again if I came back to Bordeaux 👌🏻

very cool hotel, well decorated and furnished, with some great features like the rooftop terrace with swimming pool, or free coffee/tea/biscuits/candies at every floor. the building is situated in a new up and coming urban development area that is less than 10 minutes away from the train station. the walk to the city center though is longer, but it’s possible to take bus, tram or rent a bike(very recommended). rooms have a great view, but they are a little bit too tiny. some staff members could be a little more helpful and active and not let clients waiting so long.
Valerie Morgan Goff★★★★★
I was a little thrown off by reception, felt a bit like a hostel upon arrival, but was pleasantly surprised. My room was small but comfortable, good bed and covers, AC, nice shower, and coffee and tea available in the hallway. The breakfast was very nice too. Small pool, but includes nice rooftop seating and bar. Location is a bit awkward, not much you can walk too, but very close to one huge fun bar / restaurant and walkable to the Sainte Jean train station.

If you’re staying in Bordeaux for any length of time I highly recommend staying at JOST. The facilities are super comfortable, and the beds (even in the shared dorm) are the best for a good night sleep. Even better than the facilities are the staff, making us feel super welcome and relaxed. Couldn’t recommend enough, thanks guys
Ciara Walls★★★★★
Great location to trains and busses in Bordeaux! Comfortable beds, but the rooms aren’t as spacious, but there is a shared kitchen and the bathrooms are pretty clean. The rooftop is beautiful and great for sunsets!

It is ok. The shower worked very well. The bed was ok. What should be improved a little is the people at reception. They are not rude, but is is always good to smile a little and be a little more friendly. And the breakfast is not that good. 12 euros and you do not even have scrambled eggs, which are always present in all buffets I've been to.
Stanislav Trifan★☆☆☆☆
Limited hot water. So that you cannot wash 2 times per day if needed(in case if you are with a partner). No warnings about it whatsoever. The toilet cannot be ventilated; the fan does not work. No room cleaning during the day too (or even once in a few days, only once per week or similar). The name hotel is misleading.
Evelyn Heyes★★★★★
A very good value hotel in a convenient location for public transport - 2 minutes walk from the C tramline which has trams every 8 minutes, and it takes about 8 minutes to get to the centre. We arrived before the check in time and the staff were very helpful explaining the policies and also giving us great advice about places to visit in Bordeaux and how to get to them. We were also able to store our bags in a secure room. Our room was very clean and quiet. Previous reviewers have complained about not getting the deposit back in full, but the conditions are clearly laid out on a notice board, and were explained to us. We had no issues with our deposit by adhering to the rules.
Sexy Val★★★★★
It's really nice to be here, the room is very cool and I have a beautiful experience with my family here
Mafalda Sofia★★☆☆☆
It was an “ok” place to stay. At first some things were broken but then they fixed them. The toilet had a very big stain and the flush wasn’t strong at all, so there was some bad smell. My apartment was very small without a place to eat or a living room, just a normal hotel room with a super tiny kitchen. The rule of the kitchen is that they don’t clean it, the clients should do that themselves or pay a fee if dont. That’s not good at all, because it’s not hygienic. A lot of dishes had stains and so on because there’s no washing machine so the hotel should clean it… the view from the room is very ugly and the outside corridor between rooms is also. There’s no offer of water or anything else. However, the bed was comfortable enough and there are many appliances in the kitchen that we can use, such as microwave… however no oven..

4 star because the price. Very simple hotel at about 20m walk from the centre or 5m from the nearest tram station. Rooms are quite small and don't have place to store the luggage. Toilet are very small. Breakfast isn't nothing special (9,90€). Free water.

Stayed there in July. Very simple hotel, small room, small area for a very simple breakfast. Value for price okay. Walking distance to center. Watch-out: Hotel parking in a Carrefour lot (€15 per day) is limited to a car height of 190cm. Alternative is only on street parking (exponential cost, license plate bound: 3h at €9.50, 4h15min at €34).

Okay for a short trip, room could have been a bit more cleaner but it was okay. Very cheap and close to city centre.
Hughes Alain★★★★★
Excellent management and employees. They were changing the beds for all the rooms but still maintaining great service. Congratulations!
Lilac Amberg★★★★★
The location was great, transport nearby, bakery and the shop right in the building. Everything was clean and cleaned daily, very safe. Another thing - it was quiet - apart from one noisy guest upstairs (moving furniture?), generally you didn't hear any voices or doors slamming etc. Basically, I was pretty happy with my stay. The only one issue I had was the dusty air-con or heater in my case, making it unusable, and since nights were chilly, I needed it. I spoke to reception, they said they will send someone the next day, but nothing happened.

Great 2-nights stay at Appart’City Classic Bordeaux Centre. Location is convenient: direct tram (F) from the airport and also to the center of Bordeaux. From the Appart Hôtel to the center is also walking distance (20-25min). The staff were friendly, during check-in and check-out. The breakfast was great with croissants, pain au chocolat, pancakes and more. The room had everything I needed and was quite comfortable. So for the price-quality it was a great deal for me.

Amazing place to stay, had everything we needed for the stay. I just ask all the hotels who provide Breakfasts to keep atleast one hot vegan option like hash brown or baken beans. I miss hot breakfast when you stay in one place for more than 2 nights

The girl at reception is very Nice, but the hotel is really ugly. There is mold all over the shower. I mean , basically everything is dirty. The floor , the walls. It’s the most dirty hotel I’ve ever been In the photos it looked way better… I should have revised the comments. Avoid coming, you can find other 3 stars hotels with affordable prices , this one is not the option. I’ve Will add that yes , they changed my room. People at reception are nice. The problem is the property it’s very dirty … seven the carpets with food stains. Disgusting 😭

My stay started a bit off since the room wasn’t fully ready, but Pierre at the front desk completely turned things around. He was incredibly kind, empathetic, and professional. He listened to my concerns, made sure everything was taken care of, and truly made me feel valued. Thanks to him, what could’ve been a disappointing experience turned into one of the best hotel stays I’ve had. Huge thanks to Pierre—he’s a real asset to the team!

Clean and basic hotel. Breakfast awful and a waste of €12 per head; long life milk made my cornflake muesli mix inedible. Orange juice was heavily diluted. Cold meat, cheese and bread selection OK. Rooms small but fine. Beds narrow. Good bathrooms. No fridge or Air Conditioning but the cool air system worked effectively. Communal kitchen seemed a good idea. Our drinks were still in a communal fridge the following day. Tricky location for hotel, 5 mins on wrong side of train station. Walking back there on Saturday night was not pleasant. Staff helpful.

Great place for backpackers, good guest kitchen, but be careful! The laundry is poorly designed. There's an app but if you use it other people get in the wash before you! Even if you get to it, the dryer does NOT work. We had to hang out stuff 😭. Pick a different hotel if you want to do laundry.

Close to the train station but on the quite side!! So nice! I took a twin room for one person and it was very comfortable. There’s a very nice open courtyard that makes all the rooms nice and luminous. The public spaces around the courtyard (bar, kitchen, lounge, restaurant) are all spacious and bright. The staff is extremely kind and very attentive 🥰 the vibe is chill, even other guests are happy and friendly 😁😁😁 I really enjoyed this stay and will definitely come back !

Although, it is very close to the train station, it is on the wrong side of the track. The services for cyclist are excellent, baggage storage, bicycle garage. Very helpfull staff. The rooms are ok, but the beds are relative small and could be improved to be more comfortable. A good choice for a short stay in Bordeaux if you are on bicycle.

More of a hotel than a hostel, but really nice place. Had a private room. Comfortable beds, clean room and bathroom. Community kitchen was nice. Bar and restaurant. Pool table and Darts in the bar. Lots of places to sit! Super nice place. I didn’t love the breakfast but that’s just my personal preference. Friendly staff also.

I loved the stay here! It is a quaint room worth the money! It’s a budget stay so didn’t expect a lot from but they had bath towels in the room. Coffee and extra face towels would have been helpful too. FYI, they take a few 1-2 euros to store your luggage if you need to step out. This was surprising because we have never faced it anywhere else, but we didn’t have a major problem with it. For a budget stay, I’d absolutely recommend it!
Davina Johnson★★☆☆☆
Terrible stay! The shower door opened right into the room. The room was very warm during arrival so we dialed the temperature down as much as possible and put on high fan speed. Wasn't until days later we realized the air coming out of the vent was warm so the temperature dial was broken. Asked front desk why wasn't the AC working and their reply was the whole building AC was turned off. Was given a bent table fan to put in room. Bed sags in the middle. We asked for ice at reception and they replied there was no ice available. Taxi and ride share service cars right outside the front doors. Area a little sketchy at night. 20 min tram ride in old quarter. Only good thing was it is literally right across the train station.

Friendly, natural service. Rooms are small but sufficient. Sleeping was quiet, beds are alright. Optional breakfast is sufficient and has some nice topics, for instance fresh fruits or take-away coffee.

I stayed at an Ibis hotel in Bordeaux and had a disappointing experience, mainly due to the service at reception. The afternoon receptionist didn’t even respond to a simple “hello,” which already set a poor tone. When we asked about having separate beds in the room, instead of offering any solution or checking availability, he immediately suggested a refund—as if the easiest option was just to get rid of us rather than help. It really felt like we were interrupting his phone time. He seemed very young and inexperienced, but more importantly, not trained in basic customer service. That’s not how you handle guests in hospitality. Overall, the stay was let down by this interaction. A bit more professionalism and willingness to assist would make a big difference
walter van ruitenbeek★★★★☆
Very kind welcoming! Small room, very basic of course - it's Ibis budget but clean, perfect layout and well located near the station (1 minute). We had nice view to the old city. Nice shower and good beds. The breakfast was nice with enough choices.

Just the best place to stay when you're on the road. Plenty of restaurants around and they constantly renovate rooms. The rooms are small but adequate. I haven't tried the restaurant yet so I can't share on that. Mattresses are really zzz quality comfy. Showers are perfectly adjustable from lukewarm to sizzling hot. Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Bordeaux

Securing a great deal in Bordeaux requires a bit of strategy beyond simply picking a hotel from a list. The city’s popularity means prices fluctuate wildly depending on the season, local events, and how far in advance you book. By understanding how the local market works, you can often upgrade your experience or lower your cost without compromising on location.

Travel in the Shoulder Season: Bordeaux is packed during the summer months and during the grape harvest in September. To find the lowest rates, aim for late autumn or early spring. The weather is often still pleasant enough for walking tours, but the demand for rooms drops, forcing hotels to lower their prices significantly.

Utilize the Tram System: If a hotel in the city center is out of your budget, look for accommodations near the Tram B or Tram C lines. The public transport here is world-class and reliable. Staying a 15-minute tram ride away in a quieter residential area can often save you 30% to 50% on your nightly rate compared to a hotel next to the Place de la Bourse.

Watch Out for Wine Events: Vinexpo and other major wine trade fairs can cause hotel prices to triple overnight. Always check the Bordeaux event calendar before locking in your dates. If your travel dates are flexible, avoid booking during major conventions, as even the cheapest hotels will inflate their prices due to high demand.

Book Direct for Breakfast Deals: While third-party booking sites are great for comparison, calling the hotel directly or booking via their official website can unlock perks. Many independent budget hotels in Bordeaux offer free breakfast or a reduced rate for direct bookings, which adds significant value if you are traveling with a partner.

Consider Aparthotels: If you are staying for more than two nights, look for budget aparthotels rather than standard hotels. Having a small kitchenette allows you to save a fortune on dining out. Visiting local markets like the Marché des Capucins and cooking your own meals is a fantastic way to experience the local culture while keeping your travel budget firmly in check.

Finding a cheap hotel in Bordeaux is entirely possible if you prioritize location over luxury and plan your visit around the city’s busy calendar. By choosing any of the properties listed above, you ensure that your travel budget is spent on experiences—like wine tastings in Saint-Émilion or river cruises—rather than just a place to sleep.

Bordeaux is a city meant to be explored, and with the money you save on accommodation, you can dive deeper into its culinary and cultural scene. Book early, travel smart, and enjoy everything this magnificent French destination has to offer without the financial stress.
