Finding a comfortable place to stay in Aix-en-Provence doesn’t have to drain your travel budget. While this Provençal city is known for its elegance, thermal springs, and artistic heritage, it also offers a surprising number of affordable accommodations. The key is knowing where to look and what to expect from a budget-friendly stay in Southern France.
Cheap hotels in Aix-en-Provence often focus on efficiency and location rather than luxury amenities. You can still expect clean rooms, helpful staff, and easy access to the historic center. Many of these properties are located just outside the ring road, offering free parking and a quick bus or car ride into the heart of the city.
Staying slightly outside the immediate Old Town often saves you a significant amount of money. The public transport network is reliable, and many budget hotels sit along major bus routes. This allows you to spend your savings on the things that matter most, like café crèmes on the Cours Mirabeau or fresh produce at the morning markets.
Whether you are visiting for a weekend of gallery hopping or using Aix as a base to explore the Luberon, a good night’s sleep shouldn’t cost a fortune. This guide focuses on properties that balance fair pricing with solid guest reviews. You won’t find hostels or campsites here, just honest, well-rated hotels that respect your wallet.
We have analyzed traveler feedback, location practicality, and overall value to bring you the most reliable options. The list below features a mix of chain hotels and independent establishments. Each one provides a distinct advantage, whether it is proximity to the TGV station or a quiet garden setting.
Here are the best cheap hotels in Aix-en-Provence currently available.

Extremely disappointing and unhygienic, I would NOT recommend staying here.
Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel was terrible. The service was very poor, and the room was EXTREMELY dirty and unpleasant. There was visible mold in the bathroom, stains on the walls, a horrible smell throughout the room, and an overall gloomy and unsettling atmosphere.
The mattress was honestly one of the dirtiest mattresses I have ever seen. As you can see in the photos, there were large, disgusting stains all over it. When we confronted the staff about the condition of the room and especially the filthy mattress, their response was basically that “it’s like this in every hotel.” That is absolutely unacceptable.
This is not just about a room being a little dirty or outdated. When you are sleeping on a visibly filthy mattress and staying in a room with mold and an unpleasant smell, you are potentially putting your health at risk.
I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. I would absolutely not stay here again, and I would advise anyone considering booking this place to think twice.

Excellent service. The woman at reception could not be nicer. The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. Plenty of free parking.Aix center is an easy 20 minute walk. Excellent pizza across the street and 5 bakeries within 5 minutes.

Small, but clean rooms. Nice bathroom. Continental breakfast, with freshly backed pastries. Not really close to the city. You can use a parking lot near the hotel. All in all: good services for this price.

One of the worst experiences. Especially in service. As I am not French, but I do speak french very well (I have lived in Paris for some years in the past), I called the hotel to take some information before I book it. I planned to stay 2 days only. I saw that it is located a bit far from the center, so I called to ask if it is easy to go to the center of Aix en Provence by transportation and they told me that there is a bus station in 100 metres. Which is true, but théy forgot to inform me that there is no bus after 21:00 (this is an information that I am not obliged to know, but the director acted as if I had to. And not only that! She said "why you didn't look in the internet to get information for the transportation?". But, this is why there is a hotel reception. In case I choose to take information from the hotel directly than in the internet, in which I might get a wrong information.
Today, the director of the hotel implied that it was a misunderstanding because of the language (It is not a misunderstanding because of the language, trust me. If I do not understand something in french, I ask again saying "I did not understand ") and that the point of view is different, and that the best thing she can do is to reimburse me for tonight, in case I want to leave and stay in another hotel, which is something that I asked for yesterday but they denied to do it. So I was blocked in a remote area, isolated and being obliged to pay a taxi to go have a walk in the centre ville and get back. She also said that all of their clients get back on foot. I am not "all clients". Each client has different needs. I do not want to walk in the middle of the night in a dark, remote, unknown to me, with no people around, area. Yesterday there was availability and a good offer at booking for a hotel in the center (and in a better price than Adonis), but today there is not. A! She also told me"if you decide to leave you must do it untill 11:00 that it's the check out". Unprofessional behaviour, at least.

just don't like hotels (or car rentals) that grab your credit card and copy all details to own computer. this is exactly what happened to us in this hotel when we checked in late with a night shift guy. He said they do it routinely, so if you damage something they would charge your card, or they cancell the reservation on the spot. hate this new trend in hotels and car rental. you worry about them mishandling it, and this is not what you pay hotel for. what's wrong with a deposit... suggest everyone to block this hotel to stop such trend in the business

The hotel was clean but not very cosy. Bathroom was quite small.
On my arrival day I got unfriendly service at the reception from two different workers. Second morning there was another worker who was friendly... but anyway: two bad experiences was too much!

Does the job, overall a great place for a quick and easy pitstop. The service was courteous, the location convenient, parking ample. I'd never stayed in a hotel from the chain before, but I'll definitely look out for them going forward. The only complaint is that the hotel lacked character, but that's the same with most chain hotels.

Well-marked entrance off a main road with a good bio grocery store next door and a gym up the street as well. Large family room, clean, and with very comfortable beds. Clean bathroom, strong hot shower. Great breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals, yogurts, bread, viennoiseries coffees and teas, juices etc

The location is the best thing about this hotel. It is also cheap, so you basically get what you pay for. The staff are friendly.
The tile in the bathroom is painted over to give the illusion it is new and fresh in the photos, but once you step inside you realize it is cheap paint that is peeling. The grossest thing of all were the towels 🤢How expensive can it be to replace them with new ones?!? We decided to use t-shirts instead of them. Unacceptable.
The shower curtain was useless. The bathroom would flood all the time.
The bedding was okay. Hallway is old and tired.

This is a gem! The long entrance into reception is like Alice in Wonderland…kinda psychedelic 😀😵💫. Once inside the garden is such a respite from the bustling city. The Luxury street view room is good size and love the garden suite.
Staff are great in every way. Warm and hospitable! We asked for assistance to allocate room due to mobility issue, it was granted with an email away.
Sure it’s 2 stars without elevator and a few amenities, but hey…it great place! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I asked for a room without noises, and the room was super calm and very big and beautiful literally three minutes walking from the Cathedral. The rooms were refurbished recently and the hotel look new. Also service is great: they printed my boarding pass for free and helped me with responses on local transport.

This is actually a hotel that has been here since 1972. It recently went throguh the renovation to bring it up today. The newy installed lawn from the garden makes huge different. All the rooms are small, yet tastfully done. The location is excellent, parking right next to hotel which makes it extremely convient for old town. Walking down the street is the old town. Many options for food and drinks day and night. I really enjoy it and would love to come back here again!

No elevator, so pack light or bring a donkey to carry your luggage up the stairs. The bathrooms are not large, so consider fasting or ozempic before visiting. If you have any pots of paint left in the garage or you're the infamous Banksy you'll be right at home, as there are plenty of areas that need touching up.

Think of the worst hotel experience you have ever had, then think again. We made reservations for five nights at this hotel, but after the worst nights experience we’ve ever had we checked out the next morning and went to another hotel. A very small and dense room, a non-functioning AC unit that made lots of noise and circulated warm air into the room, and a clogged shower were the primary reasons for our decision to leave. But if we ever had any reservations about that hasty decision, the rude service from the staff who felt they were doing us a favor by simply listening to us sealed the deal. So very disappointing.
Roni Reiter-Palmon★☆☆☆☆
We came in late - the hotel room was small (we were 3 people, and there was no room to move around), the AC was not functioning at all, and the shower was not draining causing us to stand in water as we showered.
When we mentioned these issues to the staff, they were dismissive and rude.
Later that day we discovered that a kindle reading device was left in the room (on the bed). When we went to the hotel the next day (as this was after hours), they claimed that the kindle was not returned to them and must have been taken by the next guests in the room.
This means that they did not change the bedding (sheets, pillow covers) between guests, as the cleaning crew would have seen it. If it fell, as the suggested, that means they did not sweep and clean the room.
When we tried to talk to them about this, they shrugged and told us this was not their problem.
Be very careful about booking with this hotel!

【Quick Summary】A clean and functional hotel with the bare necessities, ideal for short stays.

While perfectly **comfortable for a short stay of one night**, the lack of amenities and the self-check-in process suggest it is not well-suited for extended stays.

Very nice hotel - spacious rooms, well-working AC, free parking and close to town. The staff at the reception is very kind and helpful. Can absolutely recommend!

They go into the room when the client is not there! They messed up my things, moved the sofabed and changed the AC to work just in low temperature snd zi had no heating at all. There is a matter of safe and security. Also you'll have to buy all the stuff to clean and to make a coffee and toilet paper. Very bad cleaning.

The room was very very dirty, they entered in it without my authorisation, messed up my things and the sofa bed and the heating, first night no hot water. It is not safe, they go inside of many rooms and despite the cameras, the manager refused to give the images prooving they entered inside. No double bed! Obviously I will relate it to the authorities.

I stayed here 2 nights despite having read all the 1 star reviews about customer service and other issues. Bad decision.
Here is what happened on April 25 in the afternoon/early evening around 6pm. Earlier that day, after checking out, I left my luggage with the reception and a young gentleman said with a smile, “no problem you can pick it up whenever you want, we are always here.” Since wait times for uber in Aix are sometimes longer than in other larger cities (up to 12-15 min at times), I booked mine as I was coming back to the hotel to pick up my luggage. When I arrived, I found the reception closed because the receptionist, according to the sign left on her desk, was “attending to other clients”. See photo attached. No contact info of any sort at all. I waited 10 mins. Nothing. More people started to gather at the reception. 15 mins. Nothing. My uber arrived and the driver warned me that I will be charged for each minute of delay (eventually I had to cancel it). 20 mins pass. Nothing. Finally, about 25 mins later the receptionist arrives, walking in ever so slowly. She seems surprised to see that many people at the reception (by that point there were about 4 of us). I give her the piece of paper with the number corresponding to my luggage that they gave me earlier and explain my situation, pointing to the uber driver who by that point was also by the entrance. She says that “she doesn’t like my tone” and that she “now needs to see my ID because she doesn’t know who I am” deliberately trying to delay me even more. She states that she has a “10 hour shift and can take breaks as she feels” and that if I have a problem I can “speak to her boss.” When asked why the sign didn’t mention anything about a break but “attending to other customers” her answer, again, “speak to my boss!”
Luckily my train wasn’t leaving imminently and I just had to pay the uber driver for the canceled ride. But imagine what would have happened if my train WERE really leaving shortly! According to the receptionist, I could speak to her boss about the uber fees because… “it already HAPPENED BEFORE and they were refunded.” So, this seems to be a pattern? Ultimately, after explaining everything to Uber, they refunded the cancelled ride. In any event, be forewarned if you decide to stay here: 0 customer service, 0 professionalism or seriousness. Apparently, the ONLY thing that Odalys seems to value is their employees’ break times.

Waited for a very long time to do the check in at 22:30hrs on a saturday because there was no people at check in.. just people queuing up.. machine was not working and not user friendly.. the machine did not provide the code to enter the building and there was no explanation whatsoever on how to access the rooms. Every single person doing the check in had to call b&b for support. That took a lot of time. The code and the access was read out loud in front of a room full of people who then could use that too enter the room. I didn’t feel safe. I was there with my 7yo son and my parents who are both in their 70s - this was not a great experience.

Very friendly helpful reception. Rooms are clean. Do NOT waste the money on breakfast. It might be convenient, but definitely not worth the €9,50. They have a snack machine and a kiosk to order food from local restaurants. It is a quiet hotel, which is nice.

The Automatic Room Dispenser model is new for me. I found it very handy. When the place I planned to stay didn't work out, I found myself at reserving and checking in through a machine in the B&B lobby. It took minutes, and the entry code printed out on the receipt.
Everything about the room and service was correct, well-designed, clean, and well-maintained. Great value for the price. It's a little out of the way for visiting Aix without a car, but with patience I could get everywhere I wanted to go.

Great location on a quiet street close to nice grocery stores and a short drive to beautiful river park by the university. Room was clean and beds had nice linens and pillows. Breakfast was good but the eggs were terrible mushy slop made from powder.

I stayed for 6 nights and not once was the room cleaned. No housekeeping. No change of towels. Nothing. Completely unacceptable.
When I arrived, the mattress and duvets were stained with blood — yes, actual blood. Disgusting and beyond appalling. On top of that, there was no toilet paper in the room. You have to go to reception and ask for it yourself, like you’re in some budget hostel.
The hotel is isolated, far from Aix-en-Provence city center, and there’s absolutely nothing nearby within walking distance. If you don’t have a car and it’s hot (which it usually is in this area), good luck doing anything.
To make matters worse, reception closes early, so if you have any kind of emergency or need support after 7 PM, you’re completely on your own.
Honestly, I wouldn’t stay here again even if they paid me. Total nightmare

The only good things about this hotel are the bed and the bathroom. You pay for a hotel, yet you have to take out the trash yourself without any replacement bags. The used dishes are not only needing to be washed but also neatly arranged. The cleaning crew comes only once a week and only changes the towels, not even sweeping the floor (there isn’t even a broom available to do it yourself, they should mention to bring your own). The internet is terrible, sometimes working, sometimes not. The air conditioning doesn’t work; when I reported it, I was told it’s still too cold and will be fixed by Thursday. It didn’t work from Thursday; it was 28 degrees. The breakfast is very poor, just a few toasts, slices of cold cuts, and stale rolls slightly warmed up. I do not recommend it.

You get what you pay for. Right next to the highway. Private and secure parking, friendly staff in a hotel block, which is also occupied by a lot of semi-permanent tenants.
Mold on the ceiling in the bathroom due to poor ventilation was the only unpleasant issue, we faced. We were happy with what we got, for the price we paid. Wouldn't stay here for more than a night, however.

Very good vibes overall! The receptionist was lovely and welcoming. The place is dog-friendly, which was a big plus for us. Our room was clean, spacious, and modern, with a big bathroom and a well-equipped kitchenette (even though we didn’t use it). Very charming small hotel complex located in the immediate vicinity of the city centre of Aix-en-Provence.
We were welcomed by a very professional and kind staff member at our arrival.
The room are cozy, nicely decorated. We got the room 103. Room doesn’t have a safe in case you are looking to secure your stuff.
There is a public parking in front of the hotel, a little convenient store at the corner.
Some improvements can me made:
-providing small water bottle in the room can be greatly appreciated
-the bathroom is a bit a mess as the water go easily outside of the wooden floor, I believe an improvement should be made to made the shower and the bathroom floor better.
We didn’t test the breakfast however it seems very good. It is priced at 14€ per person.
A good hotel for staying close to the city centre of Aix-en-Provencd

This hotel was an absolute disappointment. They provide the bare minimum…no water, no kettle, no coffee maker, no refrigerator, no iron, and not even a luggage rack. All the basic amenities you’d expect from a standard hotel are missing. I’ve never stayed in a hostel before, but I imagine this is what it would feel like.
If you’re going to charge these prices, the least you can do is ensure guests are comfortable.
You even have to go down to reception for every little thing because there’s no in-room phone to contact the front desk.

I had a wonderful dining experience at the hot. The food was truly amazing—every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavor, and clearly prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can really appreciate the authentic Provençal influence in every bite, making the meal both memorable and satisfying.
The only downside was the service. While the waitress was polite and courteous, the service was unfortunately a bit slow, especially during key moments of the meal. A little more attentiveness and faster service would have made the overall experience even better.
That said, the exceptional quality of the food definitely makes this restaurant worth visiting. I would happily come back and hope the service improves on my next visit.

Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Aix-en-Provence
Securing a great rate requires a bit of strategy, especially in a city that hosts a large student population and a steady stream of tourists year-round. While the list above gives you a head start, the timing of your booking can make a massive difference. Understanding the local rhythm of the city will help you lock in the lowest possible price without sacrificing comfort.
Avoid the Festival Season
Aix-en-Provence is famous for its Festival d’Art Lyrique in July. During this time, even budget hotels raise their prices significantly, and availability plummets. If you are traveling strictly on a budget, avoid late June through July, or book several months in advance to secure a standard rate.
Look Beyond the Old Town
Hotels located directly on the Cours Mirabeau or within the medieval streets charge a premium for the address. By staying just a 10 to 15-minute walk away, or near the major boulevards, you can often cut your nightly rate by 30% or more. The city is compact, so the walk is usually pleasant and safe.
Utilize the Aix-en-Bus Network
If you choose a hotel further out to save money, factor in the local bus system. It is efficient and inexpensive. Staying near a main bus line, such as those heading toward the Facultés or the TGV station, gives you cheap access to the center without paying for city-center parking or taxis.
Check for Parking Fees
If you are driving, a cheap room can quickly become expensive if the hotel charges €15 to €20 per night for parking. Many of the budget hotels on the outskirts offer free private parking, which is a massive advantage. Always compare the "total cost" including parking, not just the base room rate.
Book Direct for Breakfast Deals
While third-party booking sites are great for comparison, checking the hotel’s official website can yield benefits. Many budget chains in France offer promotional rates that include breakfast or flexible cancellation policies only when you book direct. This can save you the cost of a morning pastry run.
Choosing the right budget hotel allows you to experience the true essence of Aix-en-Provence without financial stress. The city is best enjoyed slowly, wandering through its fountains and squares, and knowing you have an affordable, comfortable bed waiting for you makes the experience even sweeter.
With a little planning and the right choice from this curated list, you can save your euros for the experiences that define Provence. Enjoy the lavender markets, the rosé wine, and the vibrant street life, knowing you have found a smart place to stay.
