12 Best Cafés near the Sacré-Cœur Basilica

After the climb up the butte or the awe-inspiring moment inside the basilica itself, the sugar rush of Parisian tourism often hits hard. The area immediately surrounding the Sacré-Cœur is a dense web of souvenir shops and tourist traps, but a true Parisian experience requires stepping just a few streets away. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to rest your feet, a specialty coffee to fuel your walk through Montmartre, or a classic terrace to watch the world go by, the neighborhood has a distinct rhythm.

Finding the right spot requires navigating the steep, cobbled streets that define the 18th arrondissement. While the main square can feel chaotic, the magic of Montmartre lives in the quieter corners where locals still greet each other by name. This guide focuses on venues that offer not just good drinks, but a genuine sense of place, balancing quality with the unique atmosphere of the hill.

For the coffee purist, the area has undergone a quiet revolution, moving away from bitter espresso toward carefully sourced beans and precise brewing methods. For those who prefer tradition, the classic Parisian café culture remains intact, with zinc bars and handwritten chalkboards. The variety means there is a perfect table for every type of traveler, from the solo adventurer to the family needing a sweet break.

We have evaluated these locations based on the quality of their beverages, the warmth of their service, and their proximity to the basilica. We considered the practicalities of your visit, such as whether a place is suitable for a quick takeaway or a long, lingering lunch. You will find options ranging from historic institutions that have served artists for decades to modern micro-roasters pushing the scene forward.

Understanding that a café stop is often as much about the atmosphere as the caffeine, we have highlighted venues that offer unique views or cozy interiors. The goal is to help you avoid the disappointment of a watery cappuccino in a plastic cup. Instead, you can spend your time soaking in the artistic legacy of the neighborhood with a quality drink in hand.

Whether you are starting your day early to beat the crowds or winding down after a sunset visit to the dome, this list has you covered. Each entry offers a distinct flavor of Parisian life, ensuring that your memory of Montmartre is defined by its charm rather than its commercialism. Here is where to find the best cafés near the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.

Julien was amazing! I can tell that all the team it was amazing because I really have some time to follow. But Julien served us. He has a lot of carisma and he knows how to present the Le Bimbo. The food was good and the price is fair. So nothing negative here. I recommend 100% All the best guys!

Great place to sit outside for food and drinks. Hugo Spritzer was generous, tasty and looked good. Recommend the salad so! We had barely sat down when rain started pouring so we watched the downpour while we enjoyed the food and excellent service.

Le Bimbo is an experience on its own! If you’re looking for a true Parisian café atmosphere, with cozy little tables close together, everything organized and spotless, amazing food, and even better drinks, then Le Bimbo is the place to go. The ambiance is charming, elegant, and gives you that classic Paris vibe that makes you want to stay for hours just enjoying the moment. And the service? Absolutely perfect — the staff is attentive, friendly, and truly cares about every detail. One of those places that makes your Paris experience even more special. ✨

First time in Paris, loved the charcuterie board, ALL THE CHEESES, drinks- Hugo, especially. Will encourage friends from the US to find this establishment. MERCI!!!

The eggs and bacon were prefect. The hot chocolate was amazing. The croissant and espresso were excellent. The staff was attentive and pleasant.

Good French food, especially the Magret de Canard, perfectly cooked, crispy outside but tender inside. The sauce was delicious too. I also enjoyed Soupe a l’oignon and brioche perdu. But the price is a bit high. I will only come when I crave for french food. Reservation recommended!
Alberto Paula★★★★★
This is a very nice spot for a delicious meal. We enjoyed the outside seating. I only wish that the kids beef which was requested as medium-well was not nearly raw. The lids ate but it was not to their taste. The service was good and prices were okay.
Julia Helland★★★★★
We were looking where to eat lunch and in Paris many many places do ear:) so we decided to stop here and it was nice choice! I took my first “ Les 6 escargots” and they were cooked to perfection! My husband had “Veal steak, cheese cream & polenta fries” and cream was really something super tasty!!! I recommend this place ! We took table outside ! But remember in France people can smoke at the restaurants so be aware 🙂
Grace★★★★★
The breakfast set costs might be a bit high. But it is quite formal and traditional ,hot drank, croissant, baguette, orange juice with sufficient better, jam ,everything you need you will find here. That is worth trying the traditional French breakfast! Especially ! The service is excellent! The staff is so patient. Since I am a tourist, I want to use my euro coins(like 20 cents wtc) as much as I can before I leave(so it is less heavy) I was afraid they will be annoyed to this . Luckily they didn't. I was really grateful 5o this ,while I always heard paris service is so impatient etc .recommend this cafe !

Every time when we are in Paris we visit this place! It is so automatic!locals are here and it’s just the best Parisian bar service. We love it!

What a fabulous neighborhood bar! We have been here every night of our 5 night trip just to end the day amongst amazing people in a wonderful atmosphere. Great drinks, atmosphere and people. Fun way to spend a few hours and experience the real Paris.
Teresa Brown★★★★☆
We actually got beers here since we got the crepes from next door and they would not let us sit at one of their tables in the street. The beers were great. They speak enough English that we could communicate well enough. We did not order food, so we can't speak to that. Some of the guys in the bar were really nice and helpful.
John Jerse★★★★★
Came for breakfast, had the Complete crepe. Awesome, bit of heat and crepe was a bit crispy which is excellent. Cheese, ham and egg, great morning starter. Wife had the apple and same good food rating. When you need something more substantial than a coffee & croissant. Well worth it.

A very pleasant morning in Paris ☕🥐. Great coffee and a fresh croissant. Interesting interior design and a beautiful view outside. A perfect place to slow down and enjoy the moment.

I was on a school trip and decided last minute to dine here with a friend. I got a hotdog with fries and it was very good and quite affordable, the service was great despite the language barrier (which was our fault), and my friend thoroughly enjoyed her omelette. Would recommend.

As you’re coming down Sacre de Coeur your options for a quick bite are limited… if you’re limited on time. I saw the little cafe and it was quite packed inside. They seated us down and was very attentive. My family member ordered a footlong hot dog and they said it was mediocre. My other family member ordered a crepe and enjoyed it! I ordered a salmon cheese melt sandwich. All the food filled us up and we enjoyed it. Follow me on social media: Instagram: BillyBangCCars YouTube: Billy Bang Cars

I ate there yesterday. The location is perfect right in front of the sacré-coeur although you can’t actually see it from there because of the trees. It’s just in front of the funicular to go up and not far from the metro station called « Anvers » on the line 2. There’s both indoor and outdoor space and there’s also a crêperie that’s part of the restaurant, so if you just want a crêpe, you don’t even need to go inside. It’s located on the main street, Rue de Steinkerque. The service was fast, and the staff is nice. Unfortunately, it felt like the lettuce and eggs weren’t very fresh, and the chicken was fried tenders. However, they gave me a generous portion of salad, and the dressing and overall taste were okay. The place is clean!
Michael S.★★★★☆
Le Studio Cafe is in Montmartre at the bottom of the stairs from Sacre Coeur. The restaurant is themed around classic Hollywood movies. The food is burgers, wings, chicken fingers, and pizza. The food was good and the service was efficient. Yhey have indoor and outdoor seating. The tenders and wings plate was 12€ and was a lot of food. We could have split the plate with the side of fries. They batter was different than in America but was tasty. If you are looking for some reasonable priced American style food in the center of Paris. This is the place.

I stayed in Montmartre for a week. This little slice of heaven was my go to everyday. The staff is friendly to foreigners. If you are a true coffee drinker, the coffee is very good. (Why do people still go to Starbucks for burnt beans?). The location is out of the way from the mainstream of tourists. There’s seating inside and outside. It’s a lovely location to collect your thoughts or enjoy the company of friends and family.
Ahmed Kradi★★★★★
Coeur Coffee Roasters was the perfect stop after a long day of walking around Paris. Even though there isn’t much seating inside, it still didn’t disappoint at all—we decided to grab our drinks to go and keep moving. The coffee itself was bold and very strong, exactly what we needed to recharge. You can tell they take their roasting seriously, and the quality really comes through in the flavor. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for a solid, no-nonsense coffee that packs a punch, especially when you need an energy boost on the go.
Tomas Kohan★★★★★
Charlie gave us an excelent experience in his coffee shop. The coffee was great and the Carrot Cake is one of the best we’ve ever tried. Hope to be back soon!

The BEST latte I’ve had! Love the atmosphere, high quality bakery items and the best latte! Worth the visit, would definitely come back!

As a native Californian in France for almost two weeks, I found myself needing some healthy food and positive vibes. When we walked into Devotions Cafe, I was unsure if I was walking into my local Bay Area coffee shop or maybe a San Diego acai bowl shop. Either way, I was impressed and pleased. The food and the vibes did not fail to impress! From my shake using alternative milk to my Turkish egg dish, the food was delicious.

Very cute Café with great prices and nice service. I had the granola which tasted amazing and the coffee was also great. Would recommend

I had an exquisite breakfast here — everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite. The service was kind and efficient, and the overall experience felt well cared for from start to finish. Definitely a place I’d return to for a delicious and well-crafted breakfast!

We had a lovely breakfast today at this cozy spot. The food was delicious, and the service was warm and friendly. The place is a bit small, but we were able to find a table without any issues. A nice surprise was the babycino on the menu, which is quite rare to find in Paris, making it a great option for families. They even gave our daughter a free sticker, which was a sweet touch! Overall, a great experience for both adults and little one.

Absolutely amazing place for brunch! The coffee is really good, we had the devotion, which is their version of a flat white. The formule with the Turkish eggs is absolutely delicious. The staff is very nice and the ambiance is welcoming and friendly. I loved it!

Had a cheeky cappuccino here, by pure coincidence. The staff is so friendly and the location is handy if you are on your way to the Sacré-Cœur.
helene Manchester★★★★★
I stumbled across this café in a perfect location, just a short walk from the Sacré-Cœur and right in the heart of the textile district. From the outside it looks modest and authentic, but once inside you immediately feel the warmth and charm of the place. The seating is extremely comfortable, the tables are spacious, and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed and welcoming. Before sitting down, I spoke with one of the waiters about the menu. He was incredibly approachable, friendly, and genuinely happy to help. That sense of kindness carried throughout the entire experience: everyone seemed to know each other, conversations flowed naturally, and the whole restaurant had the feeling of a joyful family gathering. I ordered the couscous and asked for only a third of the usual portion of meat. Even so, the serving was remarkably generous. The dish itself was absolutely delicious — fresh, rich in flavour, and beautifully prepared. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. Sarah, our waitress, was exceptional. Attentive without ever being intrusive, she made us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. In fact, “home” is probably the best word to describe this place: cosy, authentic, and filled with genuinely caring people. This is clearly a small family-run business that takes enormous pride in what it does, and it shows in every detail. A heartfelt thank you to Sarah and Hocine for their wonderful hospitality and unforgettable welcome. And the music! A perfect soundtrack of classic French songs from an era when music was crafted with real passion, romance, and artistic soul. It added the finishing touch to an already memorable experience.

Nice restaurant in a quiet street near the montmartre. We craved a mousse au chocolate and weren’t disappointed. We sat outside, staff was really nice. Big recommendation for a break during your trip in Paris!

Great spot close to Sacré-Cœur. I came here alone and ordered the French onion soup, a glass of red wine, and crème brûlée. Everything was delicious !! Prices were better than other restaurants nearby, the place was calm, the staff were really friendly, and the service was fast. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area !!

The best coffee we’ve ever had. Great coffee is a combination of quality ingredients and skill, and Monlam delivers both. He’s a professionally trained barista who sources his beans from the best roasters, and his passion for coffee-making shows in every cup. The first time we visited, he made our cappuccinos with a huge smile. The latte art is beautiful, but what truly stands out is the balance of coffee, milk, and foam. No bitterness. Just pure pleasure with every sip. Over our 2.5-week stay in Paris, we came nearly every day until we could simply walk in and ask for “the usual.” By the end, we weren’t just regulars — we’d made a new friend. Paris is lucky to have Monlam Café. We already miss the coffee, and of course, Monlam himself. Tashi Delek, Monlam! Wishing you all the best 🙏

This place is absolutely amazing! So atmospheric and cozy. The staff are wonderful very pleasant, friendly, and always smiling. You really feel welcome here. The coffee is delicious. The iced cappuccino and iced Americano are simply perfect — the best we’ve tried in Paris. And the carrot cake is also very tasty.A place you definitely want to come back to!

Went here after visiting the Basilica, this place had one so friendly happy man, he was so cheerful. I ordered the iced rose red dragon matcha with oat milk and an iced chai latte. Both drinks were beautifully prepared, the man was so joyful in doing this task, so rare in this world to see a person at work and so happy. Its a small place with a few seats within the place and then two tables outside but this gentle fella gives his all, so try to be patient.
shelly chiang★★★★★
Stumbled on this tiny jewel while just strolling in the neighborhood after visiting the basilica. We had a latte, a hot chocolate and fresh squeezed orange juice (squeezed in front of you). The owner is so friendly to the customers and their pets! What a kind man!
Theodora Fanning★★★★★
This cute cafe called to my friend& I after a stroll through le sacré-cœur. It's nice bright atmosphere and cool blue logo drew us in. We spent time drinking iced tea and espresso chatting with Passi and her husband who run the shop. They were both so welcoming and the quality of the coffee was excellent. It was such a relaxing experience. If you only speak English and are a tourist who likes good coffee I'd highly recommend coming here cause they can do orders in French and English.

Just stopped for lunch here. Great spot at the foot of the stairs leading down from Rue Lamarck. Friendly service, fresh food and good value. North Montmartre is less touristy than the area in front of Sacre Coeur so it's worth a trip over the hill to find somewhere a bit less hectic. We had a very generous Mediterranean salad with Prosciutto and a Croque Monsiour. Both were well presented and tasty. Recommended. Prices were about standard for good neighbourhood bistro. 33 euro including a soft drink.
Andy Bell★★★★☆
Handy stop on the way to the Sacre Couer (by the stairs) with inside and outside seating attended by friendly staff. Full menu as well as boards of meat/cheese and good value lunch offer over two or three courses. Most of a short wine list comes in all sizes over an attractively short pricing scale.
Gerardo Gallegos★★★★★
We stop to get a quick bite a drink and use the restroom. We ordered a ceviche appetizer and my wife and I split 1 hamburger. After tasting the burger my wife and I agreed this was one of the best burgers we have had in a very long time. So we immediately ordered another one. We have IN&OUT burgers in California, but this burger here in Paris is far better. We must just come back to Paris just for the burger
N N★★★★★
Very cosy atmosphere, especially indoors, but there's also a nice terrace outside. Friendly service, very reasonable prices for the portions you get! The lamb kebab was good, and I appreciated the very generous amount of green beans. A really wonderful spot for lunch or dinner.

Meat tasted like ash. Beer had a very wierd flavour. French fries were not hommade. I would not recommend it at all.

We came across this little place while out for a walk, and it looked so inviting that we decided to stop and have a crêpe each. And what a great choice! The crêpes were absolutely delicious and freshly made right in front of us while we waited. A lovely little find and definitely worth a visit. We can highly recommend it! ❤️
Henry Huang★☆☆☆☆
We stopped here based on the mostly positive reviews but please do not get your crepes here. They are pre-made and sitting under a cloth on the counter. Once you place your order, it is placed on the griddle to be reheated. The result is an overcooked, dry and hard crepe which cannot even be cut with a knife. We eventually gave up and ate it like a pizza slice. Prices were high and not worth it.
Hayley Tarango★★★★★
This place is AMAZING. iIt was so amazing that we went 3 times within the 3 days visiting Paris. Kutub made our experience 10/10, from his cooking to the service, everything was perfection.
Joe Johnson★★★★★
I stumbled into this place by accident after getting completely lost in Paris… and it ended up being the best part of my night. The staff was incredibly welcoming from the moment I walked in, and the atmosphere had that perfect mix of cozy and lively. I ordered a smoothie, a milkshake, and crepes and every single thing was on point. The smoothie was fresh, the milkshake was rich without being too heavy, and the crepes were honestly some of the best I’ve had in Paris. You can tell they care about the quality here. What started as a frustrating evening turned into an unexpected highlight thanks to this restaurant. Definitely worth stopping by, I’ll be back for sure.

Nice café near Montmartre, perfect for a refreshing break in their air-conditioned indoor space. We ordered 2 Bánh mì sandwiches and they turned out to be huge! The lemonade was pretty good too. I was told Parisian coffee was no good but this place was amazing! The drinks were great and the cakes were, genuinely, some of the best I have ever had (we split a slice of Guinness chocolate cake and a peanut butter brownie). Lovely service too and the downstairs area was a quiet spot to escape the Sacre Cœur crowds, severals locals using it as a work spot which honestly made me so jealous and I wish it was local to me.
Katie Beth Kelley★★★★★
One of my fave coffee shops. Great vibes, great prices. Delicious cappuccino. I feel home here. English and French spoken. Thanks to Victoria, Chloé, Ella, Jacob, Callum, and all the other welcoming Beans baristas, past and present.

Must-visit place when in Montmartre! I highly recommend this place to everyone who values good quality coffee and is looking for a quick stop with a great atmosphere and friendly service.
Harsh Kulkarni★★★★★
We had a wonderful time at The Beans on Fire! Very friendly baristas, especially the one from Dallas, who knows his coffees and is very helpful. We had a couple of cold brews that were brewed to perfection and brought out the flavors from the beans. I also ended up buying some really funky Colombian beans after chatting with them. Must do when in Paris and around Montmartre! We'll certainly be back!
Sergei Barzdun★★★★★
Brewing skills of barista deserves AAA+++ mark. Very unusual and remarkable spot in Paris with very good coffee if you are pourover/filter coffee fan.

Tips for Enjoying Cafés Near Sacré-Cœur

The rhythm of a Parisian café is different from a standard coffee shop, and understanding the local etiquette will significantly enhance your visit. The neighborhood of Montmartre is residential, and the cafés serve as living rooms for the people who live there, so respecting the pace is key. By planning your stops with a bit of local insight, you can avoid the stress of tourist traps and find the hidden gems that make this area so beloved.

1. Adjust your expectations for terrace seating.
The terraces facing the basilica or overlooking the city come with a premium. In many establishments, the price of a coffee will be higher if you sit on the terrace (à la terrasse) than if you stand at the bar (au comptoir). If you are on a budget but want the view, it is perfectly acceptable to order a quick espresso at the counter and then move on.

2. Plan around the "Le Goûter" time.
Parisians typically take a sweet break between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. If you are looking for a lively atmosphere with locals, this is the best time to grab a table. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful moment to journal or read, avoid this window and visit during the late morning or early afternoon lull.

3. Do not skip the food menus.
Many of the best cafés in this area are actually better known for their simple, rustic food than their coffee. A café crème paired with a fresh croissant or a slice of quiche is the standard order. Even if you are just stopping for a drink, glancing at the chalkboard specials can reveal the true quality of the establishment.

4. Be mindful of your belongings.
The area around the Sacré-Cœur is one of the most heavily touristed zones in Europe. While the cafés themselves are safe, the approach to them can be crowded. Keep your phone and wallet secure when walking through the square or navigating the busy stairs, so you can relax fully once you sit down.

5. Embrace the art of lingering.
Unlike in some countries where tables are turned quickly, French cafés expect you to stay for a while. You will rarely be rushed to pay the bill. To get the server’s attention when you are ready, a simple raise of the hand or a quiet "s’il vous plaît" is polite; they will bring the card machine to your table when you ask.

6. Explore the side streets immediately.
The quality of a café often increases inversely with its proximity to the main tourist funnel. If you walk just three or four minutes away from the basilica toward Rue Caulaincourt or Rue des Martyrs, you will find where the actual residents of the 18th arrondissement spend their mornings. The prices drop and the quality often rises.

The area surrounding the Sacré-Cœur is a place of contrasts, where the sacred and the bohemian collide on steep, winding streets. Taking the time to sit down at a proper café allows you to observe the subtle details of the neighborhood, from the artists sketching on napkins to the bakers delivering bread on old bicycles. It is in these quiet moments of observation that the true spirit of Montmartre reveals itself.

Whether you choose a sleek specialty coffee bar or a dusty, historic bistro, the act of slowing down is the real luxury here. Let the crowds rush by while you enjoy the simple pleasure of a well-made drink in one of the most romantic settings in France. The perfect café experience is not about ticking a box on a list, but about finding the corner of the city that feels, just for a moment, like yours.
