Tarragona’s coastline is a stunning patchwork of golden sand, hidden rocky coves, and crystal-clear Mediterranean water. Unlike the more commercialized stretches of the Costa Brava, this southern Catalonian region offers a blend of ancient Roman history and unspoiled natural beauty.
Whether you are traveling with family, seeking a romantic sunset spot, or looking for a quiet place to snorkel, the Costa Daurada has a beach tailored to your needs. The name “Golden Coast” is no exaggeration; the soft, golden sediment here is distinct and comfortable.
Because the region enjoys a mild microclimate, the beach season often extends from late spring well into October. This means you can enjoy the sun and sea without the intense peak-season crowds if you time your visit right.
Accessibility is a major advantage for visitors to Tarragona. Many of the best beaches are located just a short walk from the city center or are easily reachable by public transport and car.
In this guide, we have compiled the top coastal spots based on water quality, amenities, and overall atmosphere. Here are the best beaches in Tarragona to help you plan your perfect seaside escape.

Don't think that you will be there alone 😜 Nice pictures without people, but reality is different. The beach is very nice. Be prepare for nudist and LGBTQ community. Enjoy👍

A beautiful beach that you definitely have to visit if you are in the area. The path is a little difficult to find at first, but once you have found the start it is not difficult to get to the beach. We took the southern entrance, for which you first have to walk through camping site past the Torre de la Mora. You can also park very well in the side street there.
Nudist and textile can be found there in equal measure. However, everything is very harmonious and accepted.
Please note that there are two very close beaches. We were very impressed by both
Clame K★★★★★
Lovely beach, calm and surrounded by beautiful limeatone. You can reach it through a very short and easy trek which offers nice views on the see. The descent to the beach is managable well but you should be good and safe on your feet. I saw people doing it with flip flops while I was happy to wear sandals. 😉
Pieterjan De Vroey★★★★★
Beautiful beach with luckily a wonderful hike and a bit of a steep access road. So only people that really want to go there go through the trouble to get there. The water is very clear and the beach slopes very gently towards the deeper part. Mostly used by naturists.
Jonathan Elson★★★★★
Beautiful place. Not so much tradh, clear water , snorkeling Must park at la morra, the campsite at the other end own all the land. No parking there. Fascistas! Photos from la morra campsite end. It IS a good 35 min stomp from the carpark, THROUGH the campsite to the tower, then follow the cliff path to the 2nd bay, 1st bay is gorgeous too! Like costa brava but with sand! Es naturist too! Or not, textiles welcome xx

Really good beach, with clear water and small waves. The beach is not protected, so I would suggest to avoid it during windy days, where it would be best to go to Jovera or more protected beaches. It is perfect for kids and family, and during the summer period when it gets really crowded, you can always find a spot away from the crowd as it is very long.
One of the perfect sports in my opinion is right after the Gaia River mouth, direction Altafulla Beach. It is usually calm, without big crowds, and you can still enjoy of the beautiful place looking at Tamarit castle.

Beautiful beach , fun for young and old. We made a big sandcastle and had a good lunch at club maritime Altafulla

Playa El Miracle

A beautiful and tidy beach for families in Winter but In summer it feels more lively and children run freely. It has a beautiful marine alley for runners and some great cliffs to walk on and watch the sea. The sunrise is magical as well.
Karol El Kashif★★★★★
My favourite beach during the week day close to center & train station so you can just jump from train & being on beach during the night time.
David Kamalov★★★★★
Playa El Miracle is a beautiful place even during the winter season. Quiet atmosphere, clean beach, fresh sea air, and amazing views of the Mediterranean coast. Perfect for peaceful walks and enjoying the sunset without the summer crowds. Definitely worth visiting in winter.

Many people swimming and scuba diving in the middle of October! Very nice beach with clear water and fine sand. Very relaxing after touring the city. Not to be missed.
Daniel Czemmel★★★★☆
Beautiful beach right in the city center of Tarragona.
The beach had more stone sand compared to the other beaches out north. It is quite long but not that deep and can get quite crowded at the weekend. There is some parking at the north end, but did not look that trustful as a location in my eyes. The public facilities were unfortunately quite dirty but on the other side along the beach are several showers.
The beach itself is nice for a city beach and a quick drive but I would recommend the beaches outside the city more.

Visited in June 2026
Cala Jovera is one of the hidden gems of the Costa Daurada and a place that feels like a postcard come to life. Nestled beneath the impressive Tamarit Castle, this small cove offers crystal-clear turquoise water, soft golden sand, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it perfect for a relaxing swim or simply enjoying the coastal scenery.
The short walk to reach the beach adds to its secluded charm, and the surrounding pine trees and rocky coastline create excellent opportunities for photography. While there are very few facilities, the natural beauty more than makes up for it. Arriving early is recommended during the summer, as this picturesque cove is small and can become quite popular. A beautiful destination for nature lovers, beachgoers, and photographers alike.
Andrea Reviglio★★★★★
Cala Jovera is a hidden gem on the Spanish coast and truly one of the most picturesque beaches you can visit. The sandy beach is comfortable and family-friendly, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. What makes it even more special is the stunning backdrop of a romantic castle perched on the promontory, overlooking the waves – a breathtaking view that feels straight out of a fairytale. This unique setting makes Cala Jovera not only an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing, but also a fantastic location for photography, with every angle offering postcard-worthy shots. To complete the experience, there’s an excellent beach bar and restaurant right on site, serving delicious rice dishes that perfectly capture the flavors of the region. Whether you come for a family outing, a romantic escape, or simply to enjoy good food by the sea, Cala Jovera is a must-visit.

Historical & Scenic Cala with a fabulous Castle
Cala Jovera is a great spot to come and walk around. It is a little Cala full of charm with a Castel overlooking the sea. Obviously can get a bit busy in Summer but is charming in winter. Highly recommended.
Osfla★★★★★
Once of my favorite places in the area. If you adventure to hike here, and see the sunrise or await for the sunset be prepared to be blown away. This beach has a special and magical vibe to it.
The beach is really nice, the water is clean, without waves and streams. Depending on the wind, you can find waves on the small opening on the right-hand side. Do bring you scuba diving mask as you will not want to miss out on seeing the fishes. If you can, do round the Jovera rock, you will find gorgeous openings and a small cave opening that takes you right inside.
As expected, in summer is overcrowded, and people sits next to each other as the place is small. If you visit during this time of the year, do come in early to guarantee yourself a good spot.
Maëleen Riochet★★☆☆☆
June, already full of people. This is not a hidden gem. Ok, nice view on the castle (that is private - book for events) but it mostly smells pee, not clean on the beach, etc. You will be better at Altafulla beach or in between Altafulla and Tamarit.
Savinosa beach

Marcos★★★★★
Cute little beach. The cliffs nearby are great if you’re not into sand. Active cruising going on in the bushes nearby.
Aida★★★★★
Had a great time, the water and the sand were very clean.
La Vida★★★★★
I have visited many beaches in the EU and this is by far one of my favorites for a few reasons: 1) Savinosa is a Blue flag beach(look up what a Blue flag beach is). It's a rating given to beaches with certain water quality and facility standards. The sand is also cleaned daily. Something I noticed in other Spanish beaches are cigarette butts on the sand. I saw one on the sand here, but overall very clean and soft sand. No chair rental, but there is a cafe, restroom and showers. Bring your own umbrella. There is a free parking lot close by. NO dogs allowed. 2) very relaxed atmosphere. Kid friendly. I saw many children present. Note that this is a clothing optional beach, so nudity (topless and full nude) is present. But, clothed or not, nobody cares! This is one thing I love about European culture. The human body is the human body. Nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. We arrived in our birthday suit, leaving in it too 🙂 If you are a prude, this beach is not for you (I guess no European beach would suit if topless women also bother you). 3) the waves break a bit further out, so there is a shallower area close to the shore that is ideal of kids or anyone just wanting to wade knee deep. Do note that the beach is in a cove with steep rocks on either end of the beach. Do not swim on either end as the current can be dangerous. Just use common sense. Someone had to be rescued while I was there. If you stay in the middle part of the beach, no issues. Water temp in early October was still tolerable.
Enjoy! Will be back! Bookmarked as one of my favorites.
Kutay K★★★★★
Amazing beach, nudist's and clothed people co-exist peacefully. My wife wanted to be fully clothed, my self wanted be nude. Nobody batted an eye. If this is your first nudist beach I highly recommend.
Margherita P.★★★★☆
I was surprised the beach got such high ratings. There are buildings in the background and the train rattles through noisily every 20 minutes. you have to walk into the sea quite a while to be able to swim, it's shallow. the ground is very hard, bring a thick towel. the day I visited, a large section was cordoned off w yellow n red floaters bc it is dangerous to swim there. there are much better beaches further east, like Mora n Tamariu that dont have the urban feel

Gorgeous beach, beautifully maintained, lovely approach and very easy to walk to from anywhere in the city's heart. From hotel and back in under an hour, absolutely stunning and had whole section practically to myself. Absolutely recommend a swim and walk along the water, miraculous in a dozen different ways.

A beautiful beach, in the winter people go to play, the more corageous take a dip, dogs and children run freely. It has a beautiful marine alley for runners and some great cliffs to walk on and watch the sea. The sunrise is magical as well.

Very nice place, the view from above is amazing, clean beach, good sands, and of course refreshing water.

A lovely beach to view from the balcony but not very nice to visit. Difficult to access and dodgy people scanning the walkers. Also we unfortunately saw a completely naked man pleasuring himself while watching young girls and children. Not a safe area. 😕

Our favorite beach in Tarragona — especially outside the tourist season, when it feels almost private. The calm sea, soft sand, and peaceful atmosphere make it the perfect place to unwind. When I meditate, I picture this beach, with its calming waves and passing boats on the horizon, to clear my mind.

The sea is magnificent with fishes swimming all around us 🥹😍 The beach wasn't crowded in June, which is rare on this coast, so that was nice 🙌🏼 There are lifeguards everywhere, all the way to Tamarit beach. However, there are no fountains 🥵... no shade (plant some trees near the beach, no?? A coastal path with no shade in full sun at 30-40 degrees Celsius is tough...)🥵 and only one public toilet nearby?!😓
Marius Dan★☆☆☆☆
Absolute mockery for tourists and not only for them. Saturday afternoon the two public toilets that are one at each end of the beach, on Sunday when it was a lot of people on the beach enjoying the sun, both of them closed…
David Morris★★★★☆
Lovely sandy soft white sand beach which is over a Kilometre long, 2 small public toilets which are at both ends of the beach front.
Plenty of local bars and restaurants with outdoor under cover seats with beach view.

Outstandingly nice beach without the usual loud or cheap entertainment and instead personal bars and restaurants with quality offers. Beach is clean(ed) and offers some sport activities.

First time here but not the last Lovely small resort with a long promenade peppered with bars and restaurants. Great for children. Quiet family orientated and safe.

Still as good as it was years ago for hiding away from the madness of Salou. Great spot for a drink, book read and easy for parking too!!
Platja de La Pineda (Vila-seca)

Andrzej Koterski★★★★☆
A nice beach and a great place to relax. Unfortunately, like in many places in Spain, there are lots of sellers offering “amazing deals” on fake bags and other items, which slightly affects the atmosphere. Apart from that, it’s a lovely place, just as you would expect from Spain.
Cornel Klein★★☆☆☆
Overall, the beach was average, and unfortunately, in 2025 during our stay, it was under construction. Instead of relaxing by the sea, we had the constant background noise of excavators and diggers, which really ruined the atmosphere.
The beach itself was clean in general, but the area around the sunbeds was a different story. It looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time – full of garbage and cigarette butts, even though smoking on the beach is officially forbidden.
The sunbeds were another disappointment. At €30 per day for two beds and an umbrella, the price was outrageous – especially considering the condition. In Mallorca, I paid €12.50 for the exact same setup, and it was much better quality. Here, the beds were old and uncomfortable, and the “tables” that came with them were basically useless. I spilled my coffee one day and my beer the next because they were so unstable. Paying €30 for that is honestly a joke.
On top of that, the constant harassment from ambulant sellers made it nearly impossible to relax. They were selling everything from towels and sunglasses to perfumes, massages, and hair braids. They were extremely pushy, and you had to refuse them multiple times before they left – only for them to come back again an hour later. I’d say I had to turn them down at least 15 times a day, every day. And if that wasn’t enough, they continued in the evenings on the nearby streets, doing the same routine all over again.
All in all, between the construction noise, the overpriced and uncomfortable sunbeds, the lack of cleanliness around the beds, and the relentless sellers, this beach was not the relaxing experience we were hoping for.

It's a great yarn with a slow descent to the depths. It is very clean, there are showers and many cafes. When the weather is windy, you can surf. The beach is very long and there are always a lot of people there.
Paul Meagher★★★★☆
A good beach which was clean and with very fine sand. You have to walk quite a way into the water to go in deep so this is great for children. Lifeguards and a beach PA system was in use.

Spectacular naturist beach, easy and fun 10-15 mins walk from trail start (not well marked, and several options where path splits - just walk the right direction, avoid the camping, and you'll get there). 80% naturist during our late season visit: do respect the naturist tradition in a place like this!
Only nuisance: dog people letting their beasts run free in spite of clear prohibition!

Don't come here it is full of dangerous naked people and the sun is very agressive. And also there are sharks and jellyfish in the sea... I swear, if you are british, german or dutch, better stay safe at home 😜

Nice place - lets keep it like that. Unfortunately you see a lot of trash around. Bring a bag and take some more than you brought, then it will be clean very soon!

A nice nudist beach, though you need to walk quite far before entering it, no roads or parking nearby. It is never crowded for that reason.

Staying at camping torre de la mora and this place is wonderful.
It’s a 10 minute walk through the pine forest and it’s so peaceful and calming.
A mix of nude and textile but everyone is comfortable whatever you’re wearing.
No facilities- bring all your own stuff and then sit back and relax.

Clean sand and cristal clar water. Beautiful landscape for pictures. The parking car is near. There is a shower on the way out.

The beach is really nice, clear water, no waves or stream. From the beach, you can see part of the Marquesa Forest. There is also some small caves along the mountain next to the beach.
In summer, during the months of July and August, it gets really crowded. In my opinion the beach loses a lot during this months, and even the water quality is not as great as in May and June. But if that is your vibe, by all means.

Practical Tips for Visiting Tarragona’s Beaches
To make the most of your time on the Costa Daurada, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The following tips will help you navigate the area safely and enjoyably, ensuring you experience the coast like a seasoned local rather than a first-time tourist.
- Respect the Flag System: Always check the color of the flag before entering the water. A green flag means safe swimming, yellow indicates caution due to currents or waves, and red means swimming is strictly prohibited. Lifeguards are present on the main urban beaches from June to September.
- Book Parking Early in Summer: If you are driving to the more remote coves like Cala Fonda or Cala Jovera, arrive before 9:30 AM during July and August. The small dirt parking lots fill up extremely fast, and local police often close access roads once capacity is reached.
- Bring Water Shoes for Rocky Areas: While the main city beaches are sandy, the northern coves and areas near the Cap de Salou feature rocky seabeds and sharp stones. Water shoes will protect your feet when entering the water and are essential for exploring the rock pools.
- Utilize the "Platges Accessibles" Services: If you have reduced mobility, take advantage of Tarragona’s accessible beach services. The main city beach offers amphibious chairs, assisted bathing services, and accessible walkways. You usually need to book the assisted bathing service a day in advance at the Red Cross station.
- Embrace the Late Afternoon Swim: To avoid the intense midday heat and the largest crowds, follow the local custom of heading to the beach after 5:00 PM. The water retains its warmth well into the evening, and the lighting is spectacular for photography.
- Watch for the "Llevantades": While the sea is usually calm, sudden easterly winds can create strong swells, particularly in the spring and autumn. If the sea looks rough or you see jellyfish warning signs, it is best to stick to the protected urban beaches.
The true beauty of Tarragona’s coastline lies in its variety. You can spend the morning exploring the ancient Roman ruins of the city and, within ten minutes, be cooling off in the gentle surf. The contrast between cultural exploration and natural relaxation is seamless here.
Whether you choose the bustling atmosphere of the main city beach or the wild, pine-scented air of a secluded cove, the Costa Daurada rarely disappoints. Pack your sunscreen, bring a good book, and prepare to discover why this stretch of Catalonia remains a beloved retreat for both locals and savvy international travelers.
