12 Best Bakeries Near Catedral de Sevilla

Stepping out of the grandeur of the Catedral de Sevilla, the world’s largest Gothic cathedral, often leaves visitors with a profound sense of awe and a sudden need to sit down. The sheer scale of the architecture, the history contained within the Giralda, and the sensory overload of the Patio de los Naranjos can be wonderfully overwhelming. After climbing the ramps of the bell tower or wandering the vast nave, a moment of quiet indulgence is usually in order.

Seville is a city that lives on the rhythm of its food, and its bakeries are no exception. From traditional convents selling sweets baked by cloistered nuns to modern artisan workshops perfecting sourdough, the area surrounding the cathedral offers a deep dive into Andalusian baking culture. Finding the right spot for a coffee and a pastry is essential to recharging before continuing your exploration of the historic center.

The streets radiating out from the Avenida de la Constitución and the Barrio de Santa Cruz are packed with options, but not all are created equal. While some cater primarily to the tourist rush with mass-produced goods, others remain steadfast in their dedication to time-honored recipes and high-quality ingredients. Knowing where the locals go for their morning tostada or their afternoon cake can elevate your visit from standard to exceptional.

This guide focuses on the true artisans, the historic institutions, and the hidden gems within walking distance of the cathedral. Whether you are looking for a flaky croissant, a traditional pestiño, or a crusty loaf of bread to accompany a picnic by the Guadalquivir River, the surrounding streets hold a wealth of options. We have walked the narrow alleys and sampled the goods to bring you the definitive list.

You do not need to venture far from the main tourist thoroughfares to find authenticity, but you do need to know where to look. Many of these establishments have been perfecting their craft for generations, serving as the backbone of the neighborhood’s daily life. They provide the perfect counterpoint to the monumental history sitting on their doorstep.

A good bakery in Seville is more than just a place to buy food; it is a social hub. It is where the morning chatter happens over a café con leche, where families buy celebration cakes, and where the scent of fresh bread signals the start of a new day. Taking the time to enjoy this ritual is as much a part of the Sevillian experience as visiting the Alcázar.

To help you navigate the maze of confectionery and bread, we have curated a list of the best spots to satisfy your cravings. These selections prioritize quality, consistency, and proximity to the cathedral, ensuring you spend less time searching and more time enjoying the flavors of Seville.

Panypiu is a very pleasant spot for breakfast or a light meal. The coffee is excellent, and both the croissant and the sandwich are fresh and tasty, making for a satisfying combination. Overall, it’s a simple but high-quality place that works well for a relaxed start to the day in Seville.

Bakery with delicious and varied food options. We tried the focaccia, pistachio croissant, milk bun and apricot pastry and all were perfect, as was the coffee

Found this place thanks to Google reviews. What a wonderful cafe bakery. First visit to Seville and this cafe and the staff are friendly and helpful. Supportive to you learning Spanish but also speak in English if you get stuck. We weren’t exactly sure of how to get served at first but approached the counter to wait. A couple of times we were missed but I honestly think that was down to us speaking to each other - so we weren’t interrupted. As soon as we stood with purpose and engaged, made eye contact with staff, we were served. The food we ordered was wonderful, I had the spinach quiche and OH MY WORD! Out of this world, I’m pretty convinced there was goats cheese in it. Whatever cheese it was it was lush and the texture of the warmed quiche with the salad and balsamic was spot on. Cappuccino for me. Appletiser and bagel with ham cheese and rocket for my partner. He loved it too. Highly recommended. The interior and atmosphere is also very calming and welcoming. One thing I also love is the thought to add hooks under the table for your belongings. Wish more places in the UK thought to do this. Facilities include - fully accessible toilet, baby changing space in there and I spotted a highchair too. Everyone is welcome.

Pretty decent experience overall. Good breakfast options, a lot of nice pastry. English breakfast good, but on a small side of scale. Cards are accepted. In the morning can be pretty hectic - queue is rather unorganized and seating places are pretty scarce.

Panypiu - Bread and much more The best bakery in Seville! I’ve been trying many croissants almost 4 weeks in Seville. Among nice bakeries in the city, I found this place as my number one because it has more than just pan 🙂 My favorites were the croissant and pain au chocolat. They are crispy outside, moist inside from enough butter. For me, the chocolate in pain au chocolat was also rich and just right. And the price is reasonable, the size is very generous. The staffs are so patient and warm- hearted even when it’s too busy which is always. They are focused on what they should serve. I think the team works very efficiently. I admire their work. I already became a repeat customer here. My breakfast time here was the happiest time during my stay in Seville 🙂 I hope all best to everyone who works here. 👍

Bakeries in Spain often disappoint me with their bland, dry, and super sweet pastries, but this one is a gem! The chocolate strawberry cake I had was really good! It has layers of flavors, not too sweet, and the taste of fresh strawberries along with the chocolate really worked well. I wish they have a branch in Malaga.

I got their cake as a birthday present, and it was delicious! As far as I know it was pre ordered through their website and also included pretty candles 🙂

I really enjoy the desserts here. The sweetness is subtle and balanced, and the texture is incredibly smooth. It practically melts in your mouth. Amazing!

For a specialty cakes and sweets shop, I was honestly disappointed. The cakes don’t seem homemade, they look more like store-bought sponge layers with fillings that may or may not be made in-house. There was only one cake that appeared homemade, which I chose, and that’s the only reason I’m giving two stars.

El Torno is a tiny little gem tucked away inside Plaza del Cabildo—the commercial gallery right in the heart of Sevilla's city center. Don't let the small size deceive you though, because their pastries are absolutely delicious! They have a few different flavors to choose from, but we went for the almond with lemon one—which happens to be their most popular—and it was incredible! The combination of flavors was just perfect, and you can tell they put a lot of care into what they make. If you're passing through Plaza del Cabildo, do yourself a favor and stop by. It's the perfect little treat to enjoy while exploring the city center. Highly recommended! 🥐🍋

A really warm welcome by the man in the shop, who was so patient with my broken Spanish and gave us recommendations. We ordered little cakes that had the best texture and flavour in the world! Marzipan like but not too sweet, soft on the inside, delicious!

Loved this little shop! The person at the counter was lovely with a great big smile. I appreciate that she seemed genuinely interested in helping us. I got one box as a gift and the large assorted box for us to enjoy while in Seville... That was two days ago and we're already finished...! I believe most of them had an almond paste-type center, which I really enjoyed. A bonus of visiting the shop is the beautiful courtyard that surrounds it. Both are a must visit! Edit: yes, that was me! I don't think Google map users want to see a phot of me 😉

If you are looking for flaky croissant, this is not the place. It’s more like bread and it was dry. Staff was not friendly, unwelcoming, and touching his facial hair. There was also construction inside, it started as I was eating. You will smell it! I wouldn’t recommend this place. Hope this will improve…

I have been this bakery yesterday and today, and I highly recommend it. The croissants are delicious, both original one and pistachio one. And the staff here are so nice, I especially wanna thank for Lola for her heartwarming service. Yesterday I didn’t pay successfully in the first time, but she told me don’t worry and kindly treat me ^^ I feel so moved by staff here.

I had a fantastic experience here! The cakes were absolutely delicious and the coffee was perfect. What impressed me the most was the portion sizes—they are very generous and offer excellent value for the price. The atmosphere is wonderful, making it a great place to relax, and the service was also very good. Everything we tried was high quality and satisfying. I highly recommend visiting if you’re looking for great treats and a lovely environment.
Canberk Özbaykuş★★★★★
We absolutely loved our breakfast here! The mollete toast was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside — simple yet full of flavor. The croissants were outstanding, rich with the aroma of real butter and baked to perfection. But the real star was the pistachio croissant — flaky, creamy, and truly unforgettable. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and you can tell great care goes into every detail. A must-visit spot in Seville for anyone who loves good pastry and bread! 🥐✨
Fatih Turan★☆☆☆☆
The staff were very rude. They looked tired of the tourists. But they shouldn't forget that they make their money from tourists. They need to be more friendly and respectful. The tables outside were very dirty. Why did you paint the inside of the pistachio croissant green?? We had ordered takeaway, but when the child got tired, we thought it wouldn't be a problem to sit at the dirty tables outside for a short while. A rude woman warned us in a rude tone, "You ordered takeaway, you can't sit here." When I said we could pay if there was a fee, she continued muttering, turned around, and walked away.

Best pastries we tried in Seville. Had the raspberry mascarpone croissant, pan Suisse, chocolate covered hazelnut croissant and pistachio caracol. Beautiful all of them. Will happily return. And the shopkeeper was very affable and helpful.

In our top 5 globally. Try the local custard it's delicious with cinnamon and star anise but perfectly balanced so nothing overpowers. We came 2 days in a row and none of the cakes disappointed. Would heartily recommend.

Dulcería Manu Jara was a lovely find and definitely worth the stop. I ordered the pain au chocolat and the pain suisse. The pain au chocolat was my favourite, buttery, flaky, and rich without being overly sweet. The owner was very kind and attentive, which made the visit feel even more personal. I picked up my pastries to go and later paired them with a double cortado from another spot nearby. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and you can really tell they use quality ingredients. The bakery itself is beautifully decorated, with a high-end display of pastries that shows off their craftsmanship. Just note there is no seating, so it’s more of a takeaway place. This spot is well known in Seville and you can tell it’s earned its reputation. Others rave about their desserts and the overall experience and I have to agree. If you’re in the Triana neighborhood and want something sweet and authentic, this is a must visit.

Probably the best cafe in Seville, my second visit to this outlet in another branch. Smoothie was delicious and reasonably priced. Sandwiches and lunches are also fairly priced. Just google this cafe and make an effort to visit, you will thank yourself and save lots of money from all those tourist traps. Good luck.

Best croissant in the world! It’s an absolute must and having tried croissants all over the world, it is Seville that is home to the best one yet. I’m sorry Paris, but this one steals the crown! Other pastries and cakes were just ok, nothing special.
Paul Rîmpu★★★★★
Bomba de Naranja was really good, but Tocino de Cielo was way too sweet and it has too much taste of egg (normal thing since it's made mostly of egg yolks, but I didn't know about it). If taste of only egg yolks and a ton of sugar are something you don't have any problem with, you can give it a try. Anyway, for €3 each I ain't even mad I couldn't finish the Tocino.

The pastries are excellent, but what makes this place even more special is the incredibly kind staff. A magical place to visit for an afternoon snack.

Hot chocolate was excellent - rich and thick yet not too sweet. The pastry was delicious, light, and went so well with the hot chocolate. Glad we stopped by this place!

Walked by the display and was drawn in by how good all the pastries looked. We ended up ordering different flavors of the roscón our favorite was the chocolate. One of the best pastry shops we’ve ever visited! We tried several cakes and pastries on our first day, and they were so fresh and delicious that we immediately returned the next day to buy more. In fact, we will probably go back again tonight, making it three visits in just two days. Every pastry has been full of flavor and clearly homemade with care. We are only in Seville for a week, so we don’t know how other pastry shops compare, but if we lived here, this would definitely become our go-to place for sweets. Highly recommended!

Great range of pastries, cakes and chocolates in this beautiful little place round the corner from our apartment. We had the pestinos which were honestly the most delicious pastry I've ever eaten. Sweet and light flaky pastry with a hint of creamy filling dusted with icing sugar, and the perfect size to be satisfying. I wish I'd gone there on my first day rather than my last!

Carmela de nata was perfect. A lightly sweet bread filled with cream. Turquesa San Lorenzo was too sweet, even for me. But giving 5 stars to balance out overly negative reviews.

Wonderful fresh pastries! Loved the bonbon chocolate cake and assorted cookies sold by weight (minimum 100g, 1/4kg for 9euro - may 2023). Open on Labor day! Very friendly staff!
Bruna Dota Carvalho★★★★★
We liked their pastries so mix we came back right away to try different things. They offer so many different kinds of pastries that it was hard to choose from. We got chocolate truffles, cakes, and breads. The place is small but they made room to showcase their pastries and give you tons to choose from. We wish they had a sampler tray so we could pick and choose different things in smaller sizes so we can try as much as possible. The server was kind and smiled the whole time she was serving us, I really enjoyed chatting with her. I’d recommend this place as a quick desert stop.

I had a slice custardy filled sponge cake covered in chocolate, which they display in the window and looked delicious. I would encourage you to skip it. The chocolate glaze was waxy, thin tasting as opposed to a ganache. The filling didn’t have any flavor (vanilla, almond, orange…) and the sponge cake also was super bland. I think flavor or richness in any one of those element might have saved it. It looks way better than it tastes. On the plus side, it’s not too sweet, it’s not expensive, service was good, and the shop is adorable — but it’s still not worth the money or the calories in my opinion. Take a picture of the delicious looking window display and move on. Or maybe try something else? The tocino del cielo looked promising… I can’t speak to the bread or any other desserts. It was busy so they must be doing something right.

This is a bakery or a bakery-like place (not sure but there was a lot of bread displayed in the front windows so we went in). My wife and I grabbed a couple of croissant and one Cana (pronounced Cagna). The time was 10:30 AM and these items were old and stale! A bakery that sells baked goods are selling old unsold stuff, what the heck? I'm sure they must be doing better elsewhere, otherwise, I can't understand the positive reviews posted here!
Nata Lie★★☆☆☆
With such high reviews I went here expecting an exceptional bakery. It was below average. Most baked goods were prepackaged. The bread looked and tasted ok, nothing special, no crispy crust, but at least it wasn't dry. Not a lot of choice either, just white or whole wheat bread in different sizes.

I was in Seville for vacation I discover Las Doncellas bakery, the Regañas, the bread and Inés Rosales Tortas the best I ever try in a long time everything fresh, crunchy and good flavor. I highly recommend if you go to Seville don’t missed it, if you love fresh bread!!!!

Tips for Enjoying Bakeries Near the Cathedral

Understanding the local customs and the best times to visit these establishments will significantly enhance your experience and ensure you get the freshest products available.

  1. Embrace the Local Breakfast: In Seville, breakfast is often a "tostada" (toasted bread) with tomato and olive oil, or a sweet pastry paired with a strong coffee. Instead of a full sit-down meal, do as the locals do: order a "café con leche" and a "media" (half portion) of a pastry to start your day.
  2. Look for the "Convento" Sweets: Some of the most authentic sweets near the cathedral come from convents. These are often sold through a "torno" (a rotating wooden door) to maintain the nuns’ seclusion. Look for "yemas" (egg yolk sweets) or "magdalenas" for a truly historic treat.
  3. Timing is Everything: Bakeries in Spain often have two peak times: early morning for bread and pastries, and late afternoon (around 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM) for the "merienda" (afternoon snack). If you want the widest selection, visit before 11:00 AM, as the best items often sell out by midday.
  4. Go Beyond the Croissant: While you will find excellent French-style pastries, be sure to try regional specialties. Look for "piononos" (small syrup-soaked cylinders), "torrijas" (during Easter), or "polvorones" (during Christmas) to taste the true essence of Andalusia.
  5. Ask for "Pan del Día": If you are buying bread to take away, ask for "pan del día" (bread of the day) to ensure it is freshly baked this morning. Artisan bakeries will often have a variety of flours and sourdoughs that are perfect for a picnic.

The area surrounding the Catedral de Sevilla is a living museum, but it is also a working neighborhood filled with the aromas of sugar, flour, and freshly brewed coffee. Taking a break from the sightseeing to sit in a historic café or grab a pastry from a local oven allows you to connect with the city on a more intimate level. It is in these quiet moments, with a flaky pastry in hand, that the rhythm of Sevillian life truly reveals itself.

As you continue your journey through the winding streets of Santa Cruz or toward the bustling Plaza Nueva, let the taste of a well-made sweet be your guide.
