Finding a superb bakery in Paris is rarely difficult, but locating one that combines masterful technique with a prime location requires local insight. The area surrounding the Jardin des Tuileries is a nexus of French gastronomy, linking the grandeur of the Louvre to the elegance of Rue Saint-Honoré. Here, historic institutions stand shoulder to shoulder with modern artisans who are redefining what French pastry can be.
For the visitor strolling through the 1st arrondissement, the sheer volume of options can be overwhelming. You might walk past a world-class patisserie without realizing that the unassuming storefront houses a Meilleur Ouvrier de France. The goal of this guide is to cut through the noise and direct you to the bakeries that offer the highest quality, authenticity, and value.
Whether you are looking for a flaky, butter-laminated croissant to enjoy on a park bench or an intricate plated dessert to take back to your hotel, this district delivers. The proximity to the Tuileries means you do not have to sacrifice quality for convenience. Many of these establishments are perfect for assembling a luxury picnic to enjoy among the statues and fountains.
We have personally visited and vetted these locations, assessing them on the quality of their butter, the lamination of their dough, and the balance of their sugar. This list includes both sacred temples of tradition and contemporary spots that experiment with global flavors. You will find options ranging from a quick grab-and-go baguette to elaborate celebration cakes.
The standards here are exceptionally high. In France, the title of "boulangerie" is legally protected, requiring bread to be kneaded and baked on the premises. This legal distinction ensures that when you buy a baguette near the Tuileries, you are getting a product made fresh that morning, often from flour milled just outside the city.
Because the area is a high-traffic tourist zone, it is also a target for industrial "faux" bakeries that sell frozen, factory-made dough. Our curated list ensures you avoid these traps. We focus exclusively on artisans who respect the craft, using slow fermentation and high-quality French butter.
Below, you will find a selection of the finest spots to satisfy your sweet tooth or secure your daily bread. We have organized these recommendations to suit a variety of needs, from early morning breakfasts to late afternoon indulgences.

Actually very unique bakery in Paris. I think the pink croissant is pretty good. I also like the green icecream cake but it could be a bit too cold for some people.

Surprising artisanal french bakery! Tasty and beautiful pastries. Nice team. Possibility to eat on site and take away. Prices are very affordable for such quality, it's even cheaper than industrial bakery.

It's very popular so obviously there is always a line. Lucky we went In odd hours so didn't wait long. It's beautiful. Good is ok but very pricey. Portion sizes are decent. Went for the Hot chocolate mainly but left kinda disappointed. Especially the way they poured it. Didn't even get the chance to record it. And this was the first place I visited after landing in Paris so it was not a good start.

I went for a breakfast on Monday morning at 0830. There wasn't a long queue and I only needed to wait for around 10 to 15 minutes to be seated.
I ordered a croissant with scrambled eggs and bacon (€16), a Mocha (€8.5), and a citron tart (€10.50). I loved the croissant as I could taste the butter and it was crsipy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bacon was cooked just right that it didn't feel oily nor dry. I personally liked the Mocha more since it included coffee and their signature chocolate in one drink, you could still taste the richness of their chocolate, which balanced very well with the bitterness of the coffee. I enjoyed the citron tart as well, it was not overly acidic. From the cross-section, you could the beautiful tart included a few ingredients then just simply a custard.
The staff members were friendly to tourists who didn't know French. While the price range was a bit high, I think it reflects well with the quality of the food given. I would love to come again the next time I visit Paris.

Exceptional food, iced tea and hot chocolate. The Quiche was very good. Planned on only hitting the gift shop but the restaurant was so beautiful we ate there as well. Very glad we did. Service was very good once they acknowledged us and started with us. Was a longer wait than it should have been to get a server.

The hot chocolate and desserts were amazing! I missed the croissants this time, so I’ll definitely try them next visit.
We waited about 15-20 minutes for a seat, but the ambience and service made it worth it. Really good experience overall.

When you want to find a place for tea break, this might be one of the options in Paris. But I would recommend to make reservations in advance. We are lucky to just waiting for 15 min then we manage to get a seat. We ordered the recommended Mont Blanc (dessert made by chestnut puree, whipping cream and meringue). It taste good.

I’m visiting from Iran, where we have a long and rich tradition of both classic and modern pastries, so I naturally had high expectations. I had actually been following this place on Instagram for years and was really looking forward to finally trying something that would truly wow me and offer a unique flavor experience.
Unfortunately, the pastry I tried was extremely low in sweetness and, for me, lacked the depth of flavor I was expecting. I understand that this may be a great option for people who prefer very low-sugar desserts or need to limit their sugar intake.
However, considering the long queue and paying €16 for this pastry, I personally didn’t find it worth the price or the wait, and I wouldn’t recommend it to someone looking for a memorable dessert experience.
K★★★☆☆
The exterior presentation of both the yuzu and mango pastries was beautiful and very well done. The mango pastry had nice chunks of mango inside, while the yuzu one had a bold citrus flavour.
That said, I personally found the yuzu a little too tart and the texture slightly too thick for my preference. While the pastries are visually impressive, at 18 euros each and with the queue involved, I’m not sure I personally found them worth the wait and steep price point.

We ordered Blueberry and Pecan for click & collect and enjoyed it. Service, presentation, flavour. It wasn't too sweet, but that's actually a good thing.
In reviews someone says that it's "cloying", but they probably shouldn't order 4 desserts for one person 😅 Just 1-2 would be enough.
The same goes for "nothing surprising". If you want to be surprised, you should definitely order something unique like "popcorn pot" and not basic flavour like "apple" or something. Otherwise you will get what you expect, but that's also not a bad thing.
I was pleasantly surprised by Pecan flavour and my husband enjoyed his Blueberry ☺️ Actually, we tried every Cedric Grolet's place in Paris in one weekend, and we're going to return.
Miled Nakhel★★★★★
Tried four of the famous trompe-l’œil pastries: Pot de Pop Corn, Mangue, Pomme Verte, and Pot de Chouchou. The Pot de Pop Corn was my clear favorite, its depth of flavor was unmatched, perfectly balanced with a subtle salty sweetness. The Mangue, though beautifully presented and hyped online, wasn’t my top pick but was still very good. The Pomme Verte was excellent, tasting remarkably like a real apple with an impressive texture, and the Pot de Chouchou offered a more straightforward flavor profile but was enjoyable nonetheless.
We waited about an hour in line on a Saturday afternoon, but the staff were exceptionally friendly, professional, and organized, making the experience pleasant.
At €86 for four pastries, it’s definitely a splurge, but everything was crafted to perfection, and you truly get what you pay for. A must-try for pastry enthusiasts seeking an elevated, one-of-a-kind experience.

I visited Cédric Grolet's patisserie after seeing his creations on Instagram. I was amazed by the aesthetics of his desserts and decided to try the Raspberry and the Peach. I could have ordered online, but I chose not to, hoping for a wider selection in the shop. I arrived 5 minutes before opening and waited in line for 10 minutes, which was perfectly acceptable given the hype.
At €18 per dessert, the price is certainly steep compared to other popular patisseries, so my expectations were very high. Unfortunately, they were not met. While I have no complaints about the service, a minor inconvenience was the lack of a fork or spoon; since these are takeaway desserts, I believe cutlery should be provided by default (or perhaps it was simply forgotten in my bag).
As for the taste, to be honest, the Raspberry felt like water. I couldn't really taste the outer shell, and the mascarpone cream was extremely watery. Inside, there was a raspberry ganache that tasted like frozen jam—it was sour and lacked sweetness. I would rate it a 4/10.
The Peach was significantly better, but still not a 'wow' experience. I'd give it a 7/10, mostly thanks to the filling.
Overall, it’s worth trying once for the experience, but unfortunately, I have no desire to return. It’s simply not worth the money. While they are visually stunning, desserts should also be delicious. Thank you.

DO NOT EAT HERE.
I was served moldy bread today. This place should be shut down.
We went there for breakfast and wanted to order wirh the QR code on the tables. Nobody greeted us, nobody told us anything. After we ordered we waited for 15minutes until a rude staff member came to us and shouted from the other side of the room "THIS IS NO GOOD" and went downstairs, not telling us to follow him or anything. He then said, that what we wanted wasn't available anymore and we had to take something else and he handed me a moldy panini. He was super disrespectful and talked to us like he wanted to insult us for ordering something that wasn't even marked as out of stock.
If you care for your health, do NOT eat here. The place looks like it gets cleaned once a month. There are so many other boulangeries you can go to!
The Sage Page★★★★☆
Overall we had a great time at Boulangeriw Eric Kayser and probably would go again. The food was great, the only thing was the chocolate croissants could have been more flakey. The staff was pleasant and nice. Atmosphere was fine, it was not bad, not impressive. Generally, the food was great, and I recommend the matcha frappe (basically an iced matcha latte). It should be noted that there is not much indoor seating so chances are you will need to eat inside.

This location was walking distance from my hotel so I frequented it quite often. Excellent baguette, best Madeline I’ve ever had and nice outdoor seating to enjoy breakfast. It’s on a side street so it’s a little quieter and not as much traffic. Although - beware of the pigeons if you’re sitting outdoors

Chocolate chaud did not taste of Chocolate, just luke warm milk! I have many in paris. Disappointed! Cafe éclair also did not taste of coffee! Have had better from the supermarches! Looks are deceiving! However the baguettes were nice!

I spent 30+ minutes here. Frankly, I expected much more from this place. I think at McDo it's cozier than here. Basic furniture, very simple decorations. The best point is the window view.
The place is so dirty that clients need to clean the table by themselves. Every second table is dirty with trays and cups to be taken away. Nobody cares. Such a pity that people buy tea in fancy teaware and beautiful desserts just to end up in a dirty mess. Disgusting. My table was shaking, minor flaw but it add up the impression.
About desserts that I saw in the window. Maybe I'm too demanding but I live in a small town and our local boulangerie has a similar offer and it looks better. Some desserts here look a bit tired.
Even if the personnel is very fast and friendly, it doesn't change anything. Could be a good place for a takeaway coffee only. Keep in mind. It's a touristic place, with Kayser, Starbucks and McDo within 100m distance. Next time I will chose other places if I have 30 min to spare.

The macaroon were delicious, cruspy, soft, not too overly sweet. I really hope that the branch in Jakarta have the same quality with the one in Paris

I recently visited Pierre Hermé Paris and was truly impressed. The boutique itself is elegant, and the display of macarons is almost too beautiful to eat.
The experience was made even better by the wonderful service. A staff member named Vladimir assisted me, and he was fantastic — welcoming, patient, and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the different flavours, helped me put together a varied selection.
Yes, the macarons are on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and service make it worth it. If you’re looking for a luxurious treat or a memorable gift, I highly recommend Pierre Hermé Paris — and if you’re lucky, you’ll be helped by Vladimir!
The Sage Page★★★★★
Pierre Hermé was amazing. They had a variety of flavors and options. I got the rose, lychee, raspberry ice cream and it was some of the best I have had. The portion size also made sense. The macaroons were also great. The woman who helped us spoke English, in addition to french, which made it easier for us to order. It was also air-conditioned, which was great for the hot day. The one downside is that there is not a place to sit inside or outside meaning the best option is to go sit at the Jardin du Tuileries if you want to sit in the shade. Overall I recommend Pierre Hermé and may go back during my trip!
Matthew★★★★★
Great variety of macron and a selection of chocolates to choose from , great service to foreigners, welcoming and friendly but most important of all . The ice cream was soooooo amazing
While many people come here for the chocolates and macarons, I truly think their ice cream deserves much more attention and recognition
you will know why it costs €8 for a small cup after the first bite , intensely flavorful, rich, and unforgettable.

Jardin D'Eden is the most delicious, delicate, yet richly flavored macaron I’ve ever tried. The combination of vanilla and basil is quite unusual to me, but absolutely breathtaking. The young lady who attended to us was exceptionally polite, and we will gladly visit you again.

Azeem Khan★☆☆☆☆
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel obligated to warn others.
The service was shockingly rude from start to finish. After spending more than €60 at the café, one of the employees dropped an item I had purchased on the floor while packaging it. Instead of immediately replacing it and apologizing, they actually tried to convince me that they shouldn’t have to provide a new one. The fact that this was even a discussion was absurd.
The situation got worse when I sat down to eat one of the items I had just purchased. I was abruptly and aggressively told that I had paid the takeaway price rather than the dine-in price. At no point during ordering was this distinction explained to me, nor was I given any opportunity to choose between the two options. Rather than politely clarifying the policy or asking me to pay the difference, the staff chose to yell at me.
Mistakes happen. What matters is how a business handles them. In this case there was no accountability, no customer service, and no basic courtesy. I’ve traveled extensively and have visited countless cafés throughout Europe. This was one of the most unpleasant customer service experiences I’ve had in years.
I would strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere.
Mashal Waqar★☆☆☆☆
They have different pricing for “takeaway” vs “seated” food. I spent €61 getting a few things but the lady didn’t let me sit in saying I was charged for a takeaway eclair. This is while the whole cafe was empty, mind you. lol.
What a terrible attitude to customers. Would highly recommend hiring staff or policies with the bear minimum.
Katie L★★☆☆☆
Honestly this patisserie has the smallest size of pastries I have seen in Paris. I actually don't mind that, as I believe that sugar should be consumed in moderation, but they are not cheaper because of the smaller size. I think it's about time that bakeries should list the price per kg. It's just insane that a tiny tart that you can finish in 2-3 bites can cost you more than 6 euros.

Was a lovely stop for lunch after exploring the area around the Louvre. Really enjoyed my experience at Bo&Mie! The food was delicious, the pastries were so good, and the atmosphere was really nice and cozy. Definitely a lovely spot to stop by for breakfast or a quick bite when in Paris.

Bo&Mie is a great casual stop near the Louvre for a quick and satisfying lunch, especially if you’re looking for something fresh and easy between museum visits.
We tried their freshly baked sandwiches—chicken and ham—and both were excellent with soft, flavorful bread and well-balanced fillings. We also had a chocolate square and raspberry compote for dessert, along with a pistachio latte, which was rich, slightly nutty, and a nice treat to round out the meal.
It’s a very convenient spot for a quick bite before or after visiting the Louvre, with food that feels freshly made and consistently good.
Service was friendly and efficient, and despite being very popular with both locals and tourists, the team managed the crowd well.
The café is usually busy but well laid out, with seating across multiple floors, making it surprisingly easy to find a spot even during peak hours.

The place has a great vibe and a wide selection of desserts and sweet treats. I ordered a butter croissant and a pistachio latte, and both were really good.
It was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon, but the atmosphere was still enjoyable. Overall, it’s a nice spot with plenty of food and drink options to choose from.

Saw this place on a YouTube video about Paris and wanted to try it when we visited. Great food, great atmosphere, and great value! The ordering process seemed a bit chaotic. We weren’t sure whether to order at the cash register or at the counter and, there didn't seem to be a lot of guidance either way. Once we ordered and were served…we were very happy with lunch! Great location on the Rue de Rivoli across from the Louvre. Right next to the Rue de Rivoli/Louvre Metro Station - Line 1.

Black sesame eclair is so bomb. Matcha eclair also good. They are all quite sweet but having one instead of all 3 like I did is perfect as dessert. These are my favorite eclairs in the world. I think I'm just spoiled by the Asian bakeries in nyc but | wasn't a huge fan of this spot. We came around 8:15 am and the shop was still taking out some pastries and items for the day. It smelled scrumptious and there were plenty of pastry selections from buns and muffins to cakes and cookies. They have a lot of Matcha-forward pastry items, which was nice to see.
I ordered a classic Latte with a Chocolate Croissant and a Matcha Muffin. The matcha taste in the muffin tasted artificial imo, which ruined the experience. The chocolate croissant and Latte were pretty standard. I also tried the Matcha Bun and Matcha Eclair from my brother and they were sweeter than l'd like.
Staff was overall friendly and spoke minimal English. There were still a good amt of customers coming in and out, so it still gets good foot traffic despite my opinion of the taste. Can't beat the Asian bakeries in

We are an Italian couple who love breakfast. We have tried several bakeries and we fully agree that this is the best in terms of quality and price. The only downside is that it is a bit cramped.

Very busy but the queues were moving quickly. There is no place to sit so its all take away. Delicious pastries with a lot of variety. We had a pistachio éclairs & a plain butter croissant for only 4.5£! Eclair was full of fresh, mildly sweet cream that tasted indulgent & pistachio-y. & the croissant was so light and flaky. Absolute bangers!

Wow. This place is still drawing a queue for the croissant award it won back in 2018... eight years ago! Is it still worth the hype? My answer is a definite yes.
Keeping both the quality and the volume this consistent for so many years is no small feat. People simply wouldn't still be lining up if the croissants weren't exceptional. And let's be honest, there have been eight other winners since then, so it's not as if there aren't alternatives.
I was there at about 9.00 am. There was a short queue and it moved surprisingly quickly. They've had years to perfect the system, and it shows. Don't let the line put you off. You won't be waiting long.
I don't really understand the complaints about the lack of seating or atmosphere. It's next to a metro entrance and a market. It's a working bakery, people!
Do what the French do. Grab your croissant, pick up a coffee nearby, then wander to the nearest park or along the river and mindfully enjoy one of the best croissants you'll ever eat. Bonus points for doing it without an influencer photo shoot in sight (looking at you, La Carette!).
The croissants are handmade and baked throughout the day, so there's a good chance yours has come straight from the oven. Eat it immediately. Don't save it for later. This is one of those moments that's worth enjoying exactly as intended -- straight black and white paper bag.
And at just €1.20? That's Parisian public service if you ask me.
I'd happily line up again.
TIP: Find 'Square Danielle Mitterrand' a tiny gated public-garden where you can eat your croissant in. Less than a 10min walk away. Do some google research on this wife of former French President François Mitterrand. She was a liaison officer in the French Resistance.

Went here due to tons of reviews saying this is the best place to grab a Croissant and it did a good job 🤓. The Croissant and Pain au Chocolate is crispy, freshly baked and buttery. It doesn't sugary like the one i had in Germany and that shocked me. The "real" Croissant is what my French friend told me about this place and the prices are very reasonable. 🥖
There was a staff also helping people getting the cake first when there is a long line. Perfect help👍🏻
However the baguette was a bit cold when i bought it, i couldn't feel the taste that i was hoping for and really hard to eat 🥲
But overall it still worth it.

We tried the croissant, and it was absolutely delicious. It had a perfectly crispy exterior with a soft, airy interior and a rich, buttery flavor. It was served slightly cold, but it was still clear that it was made to a very high standard. I highly recommend trying it.

Croissant tasted really good! Fresh & tasty! I would recommend it but make sure to pair it with something warm! Hot chocolate or coffee would be great!
Line was not that Long since it was raining staffs were fast! But I would say not that friendly expect the one in the cashier! Maybe they were tired already but still! Got confused who was really serving but in the end it’s the Food that matters 😅
Practical Tips for Visiting Parisian Bakeries
To ensure you have the best possible experience when touring the bakeries near the Tuileries, it helps to understand the local etiquette and timing. These establishments are not just shops; they are the beating heart of the neighborhood, and they operate on a rhythm that has been perfected over centuries. A little preparation will help you secure the freshest products and avoid common tourist pitfalls.
Go early for viennoiseries: Croissants and pain au chocolat are baked in the morning. By 9:00 AM, the selection is at its peak and the pastries are still slightly warm from the oven.
Bread has two lives: The French often buy a baguette in the morning to eat with lunch, and a second one in the late afternoon for dinner. Do not buy bread hours before you plan to eat it if you want the perfect crust.
Use the proper greeting: Always say "Bonjour" or "Bonsoir" upon entering, and "Merci, au revoir" when leaving. Politeness is essential to receiving good service in Paris.
Bring cash for small purchases: While most bakeries now accept credit cards, there is often a minimum spend of 5 to 10 euros. Having a few coins ensures you can quickly grab a single pastry.
Know your baguette: If you like a crusty, rustic loaf, ask for a "Tradition." If you prefer a softer, whiter interior, ask for a "Baguette classique." The "Tradition" is usually the baker’s pride and joy.
Ask for it "Bien cuite": If you enjoy a deeper, more caramelized crust with complex flavor, ask for a baguette that is "bien cuite" (well done).
Don’t touch the pastries: Unlike in some other countries, you should never touch the bread or pastries with your hands. Point to what you want, and the staff will retrieve it for you with tongs or paper.
Bring a tote bag: To reduce waste and carry your goods comfortably through the Tuileries, bring a lightweight fabric tote bag rather than relying on plastic or paper bags.
Paris is a city that demands to be tasted, not just seen. As you sit in the Tuileries with a paper bag of warm pastries, watching the clouds drift over the Louvre, you are participating in a ritual that defines the Parisian way of life. The crunch of a perfect crust, the aroma of browned butter, and the quiet hum of the city create a moment of simple luxury.
Whether you choose a historic institution that has served royalty or a modern patisserie pushing the boundaries of flavor, the bakeries near the Tuileries offer a masterclass in craftsmanship. Take your time, order a selection, and share it with someone you love. It is the sweetest way to experience the heart of France.
