Montpellier’s dining scene has quietly become one of the most exciting in southern France, blending Mediterranean warmth with a cosmopolitan appetite for global flavours. While the city is famous for its sun-drenched terraces and Languedoc wine, its Asian restaurant landscape deserves equal attention. From steaming bowls of Vietnamese pho to expertly rolled sushi and fiery Sichuan stir-fries, there is a remarkable depth of culinary craft waiting to be explored.
The beauty of Asian cuisine in Montpellier lies in its diversity. You are not limited to a single regional style; instead, you can travel from the streets of Bangkok to the izakayas of Tokyo without leaving the historic Écusson centre. Many of these kitchens are run by passionate chefs who have brought authentic family recipes with them, using fresh local produce to honour traditions that span generations.
For locals and visitors alike, finding the right spot can be overwhelming, especially in a city with so many unassuming facades hiding exceptional kitchens. Some of the best meals are found down narrow medieval lanes or in vibrant neighbourhoods like Antigone and Beaux-Arts, where the aroma of lemongrass, ginger, and toasted sesame seeds drifts onto the pavement. Knowing where to look is the first step to a memorable meal.
This guide focuses on quality, consistency, and authenticity. We have considered not only the taste of the food but also the atmosphere, service, and value for money. Whether you are craving a quick, comforting lunch or a refined evening tasting menu, the following selection offers something for every occasion and budget.
Because tastes evolve and restaurants change, we recommend using the interactive map below to see current ratings, opening hours, and exact locations for each establishment. It is the most reliable way to plan your visit and discover which of these tables is closest to you right now.

Really, really good fried chicken, probably the best in town (I've tried multiple). Plus the owner is probably the nicest person I've met in all France, she was super lovely and helped us with the menu which was only available in french. 10/10 experience, will definitely go again when I'm in Montpellier next time.

Portions are to small. The taste is ok more neutral. To expensive compared what you get.

Excellent! The prawn dumplings were a stand out. The fried chicken was lovely and I want to try the gochugang option next. The owner is very friendly and polite.

Amazing service !
The waitress is extremely kind, attentionate, and always smiling.
The food is also great, and not expensive at all considering the quality and location.

If you’re looking for real Thai flavors in Montpellier, Thai N House is a place that genuinely delivers. The food feels authentic from the first bite — not overly adjusted, not too fancy, just honest and full of flavor. The curries are rich and comforting, the ingredients taste fresh, and every dish has that perfect balance of spice and aroma that makes Thai cuisine so special.
What makes the experience even better is the staff. They are warm, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. You feel comfortable asking for recommendations, and they guide you with a friendly, relaxed attitude that makes the whole visit more enjoyable.
The ambience is simple yet cozy — a space where you can actually relax, enjoy your meal, and have a good conversation. It’s not trying to be luxurious, but it feels genuine and inviting, which honestly makes it even better.😊💯
Best to try: Pad Thai, Green Curry, Tom Yum Soup, Thai Noodles, and Spring Rolls — all consistently satisfying and full of flavor

A small, but nice Thai food restaurant located in the old city of Montpellier. They have tables both inside and outside of the restaurant. I took Pad Thai with chicken meat. The dish was freshly prepared and tasteful. The service was good. The price was reasonable. They have also a possibility to choose different components for your dish. I recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant has a good vibes and the food is great I must say to visit the place at the centre of the city. Thai N house had so many varieties to customise the the Thai food and has new cuisine Phao Shao. I tried Phao Shao had one of the best food in Montpelier.

Currently on vacation in the area and this is, by far, the best restaurant we could have found. Hugo was incredible to us and the food was extraordinary! I have lived in southeast Asia for many years and the food here was like I had just traveled back. I'd give more stars if I could. MUST EAT!

Wonderful Japanese street food, in a great little restaurant that will transport you straight to Tokyo, with super friendly service by people who obviously love the place and what they are serving up! The cherry on top (literally) was beta testing their Japanese "Irish coffee". Possible title Colleen-San? Make sure to reserve well in advance! 💗🙏🌺

Great cute place ! the food was so good, we didn't wait too much for it to come so it was really nice 🙂
I've got the ramen and it was so flavorful and the portions were quite large 🙂
The staff was so so nice, very friendly!
I do recommend to reserve otherwise you probably won't be able to eat there

We stopped here for a quick evening diner and ordered a selection of sushi. The service was fast and friendly. Lots of options for Japanese drinks to. The restaurant is small however so make sure to make a reservation on busy days.

Was here for a late dinner, solo. It was still nearly full, so you might want to book in advance.
I tried their tofu curry with rice. It was well cooked and full of flavour, though I regret not picking one of the other veggie choices as it wasn't quite compatible with my palate. You might like it though.
Earlier in the evening, I had got a bubble tea drink to-go, not only did the drink not look like the one in one of the Google Maps photos I pointed to, the bubbles were also obviously undercooked.
Service was alright.
John Soanes★★★★☆
Really good, authentic flavors. Good level of spice, a bit of heat without roasting your taste buds. The service was welcoming, and the prices were reasonable.

Best authentic restaurant in town — we came back twice!
The pho broth here is outstanding — rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. The portions are generous, packed with plenty of protein and fresh vegetables. The owner personally came over to chat with us, and the entire staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. We truly felt at home.
We also learned that everything is cooked the traditional way, with no artificial additives. It’s the real deal.
Overall, the experience was amazing. We absolutely love this place and highly recommend it!
Cassandra D★★★★★
Really nice experience. The waitress was very attentive and was able to help me in English, then the food was really delicious, honestly one of the best tofu bun bowels I have had in awhile. The fried spring rolls inside were an added bonus.

Visited in September 2024. We were 7 people, we walked in after seeing the great rating and we were pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a table on a Thursday evening. We tried different starters and main dishes, I had the pho, which was great. The portions were generous and I believe everyone was happy with the food. We did not try bubble tea, there are other good drinks options such as ramune (Japanese soda) or Asian beers. The staff was nice and friendly and the place was clean and tidy. Overall, I was quite happy with the visit and I'd come back anytime.

I searched for Asian restaurant on Google Maps and this popped up. The food here is not for those familiar with real Asian food. The eatery claims “Thailand vibes” but it is anything but. I had the curry chicken rice and honestly a pre-packed meal from the supermarket would have tasted better.

The bowls are fresh and soooo delicious! The staff was very friendly too. Interior is a bit filthy with sticky tables and very bright white light which made it a bit less charming. However, the food compensated for the ambiance and we even went there twice during our stay.

Big Chinese style 🍜 ramen with well organized tables in a small space with various choices and different level of spices. Since the volume of ramen is quite big, you need to go there really hungry. Otherwise you can finish the whole bowl. The type of noodle is quite thick. My personal recommendation is Dan Dan noodle. Lots of creamy soup with a bunch of crunchy peanuts. Enjoy!

I was pleasantly surprised to find Korean and Japanese food this good here! I had the tteokbokki bento, which came with miso soup, three kinds of pickles, and a very generous portion of tteokbokki — all of it absolutely delicious. They also have a small but great selection of Asian beers, which I really appreciated. The waitress was incredibly kind and attentive, and the place itself is super sweet and cozy.
There were a few dessert options that looked amazing, but unfortunately, I was already too full to try them. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience — an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves Korean or Japanese cuisine. Highly recommend!

The food was incredible, some of the best I’ve had since coming to France. Amazing place, the best Non-typical Asian I’ve had so far in this city. The XL chai chicken is so filling and it’s a great mix of tastes. The cashier was very nice and smiley. And the indoor decoration is great. I would totally recommend for Asian fusion lovers.

A Thai restaurant in the lovely Antigone neighborhood of MTP. If you are looking for a quick lunch you can definitely come here and enjoy some simple but hearty Thai food. The menu is not particularly large but it offers the main dishes that made Thai food loved world wide. The restaurant is a sort of Thai fast food where you can order from machines and just get your order once it is ready.

Surprisingly good rendition of many northern Chinese dishes.
The "Poisson a l'huile Pimentée" (Water-cooked fish in Chinese) was quite good. And they left the fish head and tail, which we have never seen before (but a nice touch). Less spicy than what we are used to but it might have been adjusted to local tastes.
Ma Po Tofu was also quite good.
Recommended for people looking for the real thing.

Our new favorite Chinese restaurant in Montpellier. Dishes were excellent, and as far as we can tell you just can't get this kind food elsewhere in the area. Two things to note though: 1) I don't recommend the 10 euro teas. I got the middle option and it was just black tea in a fancy bottle. 2) Either they don't have aircon or it wasn't working, bc the inside was too hot in August. (We sat outside, which was much better.)
Teena French★★★★☆
We’ve been on the hunt for authentic Chinese food and thought Wei Lai would finally satisfy our cravings. Unfortunately, the chicken dish turned out to be a bit too spicy for our taste, and the tea-stewed pork belly wasn’t as tender as we’d hoped. That said, we’re still keen to come back and try other dishes — maybe we just haven’t found the right ones yet!
Youcan Yan★★★★★
Absolutely the best Chinese restaurant I’ve experienced in Montpellier! The menu is wonderfully diverse, featuring authentic Sichuan cuisine—perfect for those who love spicy flavors—as well as traditional dishes from Northeast China and other regional specialties. Highly recommend!
Vaishnavi Purushotham★★☆☆☆
The first time I visited this restaurant was when they had newly opened, and honestly, I was quite happy, which was why I returned many times...
But I was quite disappointed with my experience. I spoke to some of my friends to whom I had been recommending this place as well, and we all agreed on some points. Overall we concluded that the restaurant is nice, but this is conditional- 2 out of 5 times the service or food may be good. Otherwise, the probability of the food tasting good is rather unpredictable.
With respect to my experience yesterday for dinner, I expected better tasting food and service for 70 euro. This is because 1) me and my partner were told that our dished would be served one after the other, because the food was meant to be shared. This normally wouldnt have been an issue, but since I am vegetarian and my partner isn't, we were not sharing. This resulted me having to sit and wait for my dish to arrive. But since it took very long, I ended up having to sit and stare at my partner eat, while my side dish (a bowl of rice) was getting cold as I waited for my entree and main dish. While other tables were being served 2 dishes at a time, or atleast more frewuently than us. I could not understand why this was so with the service, because the restaurant was barely occupied (4 tables occupied at the most). Or was this a neglect becuse we were only 2 pople on a table? This was quite uncomfortable, and we were given no explanation for this...
2) The food was either bland or just too sweet. I felt that out of the 3 dishes I ordered, the food was either bland with no taste of salt (like the fried mushrooms), and hints of cumin that was again very unevenly scattered- some bits very intense, some absent. While my other dish (the aubergines) was way too sweet which I believe is quite unlikely for chinese dishes.
This was the same imbalance of flavours for the meat dished my partner ordered as well.
3) Somehow we felt a difference in the way chinese versus non-asian people were treated. They somehow behaved more welcoming and warm to some but not all. This has been noted and also put it as a review by several others.
Overall, I expected better food and service for a 70 euro dinner for 2 people.
Practical Tips for Choosing the Right Asian Restaurant in Montpellier

Check the neighbourhood before you book. Many of the best Asian restaurants are clustered in the historic centre, but parking there is notoriously difficult. If you are driving, look for spots near the Antigone or Port Marianne districts, where tram access and parking garages are more convenient. Walking is almost always the best option within the Écusson.
Ask about lunch formulas. Montpellier is a student-friendly city, and most Asian restaurants offer excellent midday menus at a fraction of the evening price. These formulas often include a starter, main course, and sometimes a drink, giving you a chance to sample high-quality cooking without committing to a full dinner bill.
Respect the spice levels. If a dish is marked as spicy on a menu from a family-run Thai or Sichuan kitchen, trust the warning. French palates often receive milder versions by default, so if you enjoy real heat, politely ask for the authentic level or request fresh chilli on the side.
Book ahead on weekends. From Thursday to Saturday, the most popular Asian tables in Montpellier fill up quickly, especially those with limited seating. A quick phone call or online reservation can save you a long wait, particularly if you are dining in a group or want a specific terrace spot.
Explore beyond the city centre. While the historic core has plenty of options, some of the most authentic and affordable Asian food is found slightly outside the tourist zone. Neighbourhoods like Boutonnet, Les Aubes, and even the nearby town of Castelnau-le-Leu often hide family-run gems where the focus is entirely on the plate.
Look for signs of homemade preparation. The best Asian restaurants in Montpellier make their own dumplings, roll their own spring rolls, and prepare broths from scratch daily. Menus that are too long often indicate pre-made or frozen ingredients, whereas a shorter, focused menu usually signals a kitchen that cares deeply about freshness.
Montpellier’s Asian food scene rewards those who are willing to wander, ask questions, and try something outside their usual order. Whether you settle into a sleek sushi counter or a humble noodle bar, the city offers a genuine connection to the culinary traditions of Asia, prepared with the freshness and flair that define southern French cooking.
Take your time, share plates with friends, and let the contrast of flavours surprise you. In a city known for its slow, sun-soaked lifestyle, a vibrant Asian meal is often the perfect complement to a perfect evening.
