10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Bayeux

Bayeux may be world-famous for its eleventh-century tapestry and remarkably preserved medieval centre, but the city’s culinary landscape tells an equally compelling story. For years, the local dining scene leaned heavily on the creamy, butter-rich classics of Normandy. Today, a new wave of plant-focused kitchens is redefining what it means to eat well in this historic corner of Calvados.

Finding a satisfying vegetarian meal in a region synonymous with tripe, cream, and seafood used to be a genuine challenge. That has changed dramatically. A growing number of chefs in Bayeux now treat vegetables as the star of the plate, sourcing from the fertile Norman soil to create dishes that feel both contemporary and deeply rooted in the terroir.

Whether you are a strict vegan, a lifelong vegetarian, or simply a traveller looking to balance out the heavier regional fare, Bayeux offers a surprising depth of choice. From casual crêperies serving buckwheat galettes stuffed with local cheese to refined bistros offering elegant tasting menus, the options are varied and accessible.

This guide focuses on establishments that consistently deliver excellent meat-free options, not just a token salad or a plain omelette. We have evaluated menus based on the creativity of the vegetable preparations, the quality of the local produce, and the overall dining experience. You will find spots perfect for a quick lunch between museum visits and others suited for a leisurely dinner after exploring the cathedral.

Understanding the local culinary language helps. While "végétarien" is widely understood, asking for "un plat sans viande ni poisson" (a dish without meat or fish) can open up off-menu possibilities. Many chefs in Bayeux are happy to adapt traditional recipes, proving that Norman hospitality extends to every dietary preference.

Here is our curated selection of the ten best vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Bayeux, chosen for their flavour, atmosphere, and commitment to plant-forward cooking.

Undoubtedly THE BEST food I had in France during my stay here. If ur passing by bayuex,u have to try this place at least once, we got the 3 course lunch menu, and every dish is a hit, one of the best fine dining restaurant dishes I had, and servers attitude is really good too, and can speak very good English if u don’t know French!

We booked a table for 2030hrs and still had to wait to be seated for 30 mins. Whilst waiting the lady waitress was thoughtfull enough to give us menus. For this inconvenience the lady waitress had our first drinks on them which was nice. Understandable since it was rainy earlier so people couldn't sit outside. We were sat downstairs by the door. The staff did ask if I prefer to have the door shut if too cold. Food was delicious. And the menue was lovely colours as shows by the photos. Lovely place. Book in advance. Parking after certain time in the evening is free in nearby car parks. Staff value customer service for sure. Although, the staff upstairs didn't seem as friendly and didn't say anything to us whilst initially we waited for a table upstairs. Walked past several times and if ignored us. I do recommend this place overall. Lively atmosphere but not loud.

One of the best restaurant in town! Menu is not so wide, but perfect enough to choose. And menu is changing every week. Great service, traditional local food, even non gluten options. I have enjoyed dinner with my family in very nice atmosphere with additional glass of Champaigne. I very recommend this restaurant for travellers and explorers new places. Staying 3 nigjts in this town, I have automatically reserved our dinner table for another dinner...

Food so good I cancelled my dinner reservation at another restaurant to come back here. I was born in Paris and was lucky enough to travel all over the world. Paris, Tokyo, London, Hanoi. Done a bunch of Michelin starred restaurants as well. This is by far one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been. Top 5 and better than any restaurant I know in Paris. Service is great, staff is really friendly though the first time I came they took some time to get my order. The food though is beautifully presented, extremely savory and fairly creative and inspired. It’s not molecular gastronomy by any means but it’s “classic” dishes that are extremely well made. The chicken breast I had for lunch was cooked to perfection. Moist and savory on a bed of mash. For dinner I had the salmon which was also perfect cooked, nice and translucent in the middle with a herby crust and some fresh herbs on top. Individual dishes are a bit on the smaller side so make sure you get some starters. The desserts are also delicious I was very very surprised with the coconut sorbet on a crispy biscuit which wasn’t too sweet. The Pims is very good but not my style (not a fan of orange). I’m being extremely honest when I say that the composition and taste is Michelin level here. The gyozas are so so, still tasty but it’s obviously not a Japanese restaurant so don’t get them in the first place. Overall not a single miss, everything was great. I will definitely come to Baye ux from Paris at least once every 2-3 months as the menu is seasonal and changes regularly. I hope it stays open for a long time.

Bonbonne is an amazing French Restaurant in Bayeux, France. The service was extraordinary and appropriately attentive! They allowed us to have the flatbread dinner serving as an appetizer for the table. Not a morsel was left. The salmon appetizer as well as the filet were outstanding. It was the first night for their linguine with pork belly and it was as good as we have had anywhere. The wines paired beautifully with our meals. The prices for such great tasting food were surprisingly affordable! They even had the entire restaurant singing happy birthday in French while clapping in unison. The evening was genuinely one of the best experiences we've had in France.

This place is exactly what I had hoped for! I was so in the mood for fresh orange juice, something delicious and light. Found it! Absolutely incredible! I have been looking for something like this place for a while. I had essentially an avocado toast. My wife had some kind of potatoe pancake, with eggs, pastrami, and all this other stuff. Freaking cool! It's called a Swiss Twist - Rosti. So delicious! Back to my avocado toast. They have it GF here which is almost impossible in Normandy. It was great. Fresh OJ was great, Americano was great, everything was great! Maelle (our server) is probably one of the best at service in all of Normandy! Very knowledgeable, engaging, charming, smart, and professional. Somehow Selma Alabama managed to hire the best and most capable service professional in Normandy!

Selma Alabama Brunch Cafe is an awesome spot for breakfast. If you’re looking for a place that opens early and actually serves food that’s both tasty and filling, this is it. I tried the croissant with scrambled eggs and salmon, and it was genuinely excellent - fresh, buttery, and perfectly balanced. The eggs were soft and flavorful, the salmon tasted fresh, and the portion was satisfying without feeling heavy. It’s the kind of breakfast that immediately puts you in a good mood and sets you up for the day. The coffee was also really good - exactly what you want in the morning. But what truly makes this place stand out is the service: fast, friendly, and attentive. Everything felt smooth and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a great brunch/breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.

We enjoyed the best American-French brunch here! Our coffees and tea were delicious! The eggs, avocado toast, lox dishes were beautifully created and so so good! As Americans, we appreciated this hearty breakfast! Delicious!!

Truly wonderful. Food, service, atmosphere all exceptional. From start to finish it was a beautiful experience, would highly recommend. The quality of the food, wine, expertise of the chef, knowledge and attentiveness of the staff. A very special place!

Fantastic!! We were a party of 4, and everyone enjoyed all courses, the wine, atmosphere, and service. Beautiful, quaint spot with a cozy atmosphere. Our server was so very nice, and even though he was working alone that night, he never seemed rushed or impatient with anyone. The bonus was they have a dedicated gluten free/lactose free menu for anyone needing that. The choices were many, which is not often the case. We ate at other Michelin rated restaurants during our time in France, and this one ranks the highest for me.
David Peyrucain★★★★★
The service was outstanding just like the dinner. Everything looked to pretty to eat but don't let that fool y'a. Your taste buds will be awaken with the flavors. Same as desserts.

Had a party of 5. Great service and care for nut allergy. Was given special prix fixe menu options that was organized beforehand for nut allergy . Food was great and service was perfect.

We had an incredible meal at La Rapiere. The service, food, wine, pacing was all excellent. This was the best meal we had during our 12 day trip. My wife is a vegetarian and they had quality options, we found that choices were limited in France. I made a reservation about 6 weeks prior. We spent a little over 2 hours at the restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and spoke excellent English (much better than my terrible French)

Our waiter was very friendly, kind, and helpful. I’m allergic to gluten and he made sure I had options that were tasty. The meal for the whole table was delicious and very enjoyable. I would go here again if I were visiting Bayeux.

Outstanding food. Clear flavors. Really fresh. Beautiful presentation. Excellent value for the overall quality. Our waiter was welcoming and friendly. Lovely dining room and indeed there is an alcove where we sat, very cozy. Upstairs for groups. The bathroom is very attractive and new. We were in Bayeaux 2 nights and I wish we had eaten here both nights.

It was a pleasure to dine at L’Alcove. One of the very best meals we’ve had with lovely service. The drink pairings matched beautifully . Thank you!

Our lunch at this quaint Bayeux restaurant was simply delightful. The service and food were both impeccable, you could truly feel the owners' commitment to quality in every detail, right down to the fantastic bread sourced from a local boulangerie. It's no surprise they're a Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient; truly deserved! We were definitely happy we'd made our reservation in advance.

Fantastic dinner for our family of 4 adults celebrating a birthday. The wine recommendation was spot on, food was excellent, and we even got a birthday message written in chocolate on the desert plate. A wonderful last evening in France!

100% recommended! We came without reservation just as they opened for dinner, they still had some open spots that filled quickly. Soon the restaurant would completely fill up. The prices are quite ok and you get great food. The menu had several really interesting options and everything we ordered was really tasty.

Highly recommended! Food is absolutely delicious!! The staff is very friendly and attentive. The waiting time between dishes are not long and decent. We enjoyed it very much. We arrived there very early for dinner as we don't have reservation. Luckily they accepted us and seated. Really nice.

We came here on a Sunday when many of the restaurants in this town were closed. We had a reservation and saw many folks get turned away. Our service was attentive. The menu is full of classics/traditional dishes done well. All that we ordered was delicious, and mussels super fresh. Overall we had a really enjoyable experience here.

LOVED our dinner here. They were able to accommodate us on a busy night without reservation. Food was EXCELLENT. One of the best meals of our trip. All staff spoke good English which made it comfortable for us as tourists.

La Normande is a wonderful little French restaurant - charming, cozy, and full of character. The service was absolutely excellent. Two lovely waitresses took care of us throughout the evening, helping with recommendations, explaining the menu in detail, and making sure everything flowed perfectly. Plates and cutlery were changed promptly, and the food arrived quickly without ever feeling rushed. Truly attentive and professional service. The food deserves special praise. The oysters were incredibly fresh - they genuinely tasted of the sea, which is exactly how oysters should be. The wine list is very well curated, with great choices to pair with the food. And the desserts were simply outstanding - refined, well-balanced, and a perfect finish to the meal. Bravo to the whole team. Five stars without hesitation!

From the outside not very conspicuous of its calibre. Once inside you notice the calm and peaceful atmosphere. This is a Korean/ Japanese type of restaurant. We ordered the Bibimbap. Both the spicy and the less spicy variant. Both were very nice and delicious. For dessert we had the mochi, which was all as expected. Soft texture, sweet but subtle. Tasted authentic. Toilet was also clean and very spacious. Can greatly recommend!

This was a great find, a lovely cozy restaurant/take away. The staff were super polite and friendly. Spoke good English and the food was absolutely delicious. Freshly made, the meat was tender and authentic taste. A must if you are in the area.

This is small and very good Asian restaurant. I highly recommend it. The bibimpap, Vietnamese rolls and dumplings were fresh made and delicious. It is a quick, fresh, and a good break from French cuisine.
Parker Novakovic★★★★★
This was such a great meal. We had been eating authentic French food for over a week and were craving a different cuisine and this was everything we needed. The couple who own the restaurant are incredibly nice, hospitable, and hard working. We had the dumplings (a family recipe the chef perfected), the shrimp spring rolls which were great, and the Beijing noodles - a great dish on a cold day. I highly recommend giving this spot a try. We called / emailed them to get a reservation, and I’d suggest you do the same because there are only a few tables!
Teh tarik★★★★★
Reached just before closing for takeaway and owner was very friendly and helpful in sharing food recommendations while preparing our food. Food turned out really good! The chicken spring rolls were huge and still tasty even after leaving in the cold for 45min. Beef noodles and pho were both delicious too. Highly recommended if you are craving some Asian food!

A meal here is not to be missed! We had many wonderful meals in Bayeux, but this was the best! The atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and relaxed. The service and presentation was excellent. Great care was given to explain each dish as it was served. The food was outstanding: best meal of our trip and one of the best meals I've ever had!

You must have a reservation for dinner in Bayeux. Restaurants either open at 6:30 or 7pm and the majority of seatings seem to occur at 7 or 7:30. We were able to get a reservation for 8:30. On arrival, the restaurant was mostly empty. I thought perhaps there would be a second seating, but no. Guests just continued to leave until there were just a couple of tables left. My wife selected the set menu with fois gras, white fish, cheese, and dessert. I chose the smoked herring appetizer and the daily special of risotto. The food was tasty. With only a couple of tables left, service was very slow. Also, it was very awkward with staff clearing up, closing down for the night, and getting ready for the next day. Additionally, our bill was wrong. Not a big deal, 5 euros, but still it was wrong. I was charged for the fois gras instead of the herring, instead of the fois gras being included with the set menu.
Liam Middleton★★★★★
The food was excellent! We had no clue what to expect but a family member recommend this to us. Every serving was perfect and truly amazing. The flavor hit the palette just right and the portion sizes felt filling but not to the point where we felt too stuffed. The service was also amazing and everyone was so kind. We hope to be back in the future.
Andaç Guven★★★★☆
Nice place. Good service. Food is good but not living to expectations. Took the tasting menu and it was OK but overpriced.
Arnout Mostert★★★★☆
We had a fantastic dinner here but felt a little let down in terms of service. We arrived slightly early and were asked to come back at the time of the reservation, which is perfectly acceptable. However, when we returned it took at least 10 minutes for anyone to ask us if we wanted to have a drink... Food was beautiful, very tasty and well presented but towards the end again the staff spent most time speaking to other customers (French probably) and we felt a bit ignored in our corner. Finally, for a place with a mentioning in the Michelin guide the toilets need some attention...

We tried Le Moulin de la Galette this weekend and overall had a really nice experience. The restaurant has an amazing outdoor seating area near the lake, which makes the atmosphere super relaxing and enjoyable, especially on a sunny day. They mainly serve galettes along with some other dishes. The galettes were good and had a really nice taste. The salad was amazing and the sauce was honestly excellent. The fries were also really good, and the crêpes were super tasty for dessert. As for the soupe à l’oignon, I think it could be improved a bit. It needed a little more seasoning, and the bread inside was difficult to cut and eat comfortably. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming throughout the meal. Overall, it’s a lovely spot with a beautiful setting and good food.

📍 Le Moulin de la Galette - Bayeux, France ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food: Kipik • Freshly prepared and served hot. • The meat was a bit bland for my taste. • Good, but not nearly as memorable as our other galette. Forestière • Loved the combination of bacon, hazelnuts, onions, and pesto. • A unique galette with lots of flavor. • Definitely the one I would recommend ordering! Drinks: Cidre de Bayeux à la Pression • A delicious local draft cider. • Crisp, refreshing, and a great introduction to Normandy. Jonathan and I came here on our very first night in France. It was a nice introduction to two Normandy staples: galettes and cider. The restaurant itself was adorable, with heated outdoor seating, cozy blankets for guests, and even a friendly kitten wandering around. The service was pleasant, and the atmosphere was charming. While the food didn’t completely wow me, I enjoyed the experience overall and thought it was a lovely way to start our trip. Date Visited: 4/14/2026

Wonderful all around: great location, fantastic food and service. Our waitress was one of 2 who ran the terrace like a well-oiled machine, with a smile on her face! She guided us to menu choices when asked and cautioned me that my eyes would likely be WAY bigger than my stomach when I ordered. IMPORTANT: 1. Make a reservation, for lunch or dinner! The place is very popular with locals, for good reason 2. Weather permitting, sit on the terrace. Under a massive tree and next to the river, it’s perfect.

A wonderful find! We stumbled across this lovely riverside restaurant and came back for dinner. It was really busy for a Monday night - positive sign! We didn’t have a reservation so they kindly asked us to come back in 20 minutes - definitely worth it! We had the most fantastic appetisers - huge portions of saucisson sec and fresh calamari. The rolled pancake mains were delicious and we saw plenty of other options being served including cheese fondue which clearly other tables were enjoying. Sadly too full for pudding but I’m sure would have been great and sounded wonderful. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and particular mention of Lauren and her brother James who were incredibly kind and chatted to us in English. A must visit!!! P.s they have a cute cat!

We ate here both nights in Bayeux—no point gambling once you’ve found the place. A proper intro to Norman cuisine: excellent buckwheat galettes, with the Kipik my favorite. The baked Mont d’Or combined with roasted potatoes is beyond words. With food this good? Cider or poiré, of course.

We were looking for someplace in Bayeux where we could get a salad so I searched on Google for “salad” and found nice photos and ratings for this place. That said, I would give the moyenne salad with jambon or saumon 3 stars. The quiche and salad combo was better at 4 stars. It was raining when we arrived into Bayeux mid-week and many visitors were running about looking for tables at restaurants. We were lucky to score seating for 3. The service is delightful and the team of 2 greeted, took orders, served, cleaned, made drinks, etc for the whole restaurant. So impressive. And the environment is so playful and fun.

A quite small, but nevertheless very charming bistro. Food quality was first class, all ingredients were fresh and tasty. The owner is very nice and warm-hearted, prices are also okay in relation to quantity and quality. Location is in the immediate vicinity of the Bayeux cathedral which also offers a nice outlook. Full recommendation!

We went for a simple breakfast after a morning walk through Bayeux. They open early, and the proprietor is cheerful and helpful. The coffee was strong and flavorful, the hot chocolot was rich, delicious, and not too sweet. They also served the best croissants we ate in France. If you're in Bayeux put Le Phil Rouge on the top of your list.

After a day of sightseeing we came back to Bayeux knowing many restaurants would be closed. We happened across The Phil Rouge and stopped for a bite at about 20.00 when they close at 22.00 The young waiter was pleasant and we were informed there were no poke bowls whilst being seated. We ordered two Chicken Burgers with fries only then to be told they had run out of fries (cooked fres they say) so we're offered salads. Burgers were precooked and pre made just heated and salad was little more than leaves and shredded carrot. This is basic food which may or may not be available. We were informed the chips are cooked in the morning and if they run out it's tough, they will not make more. Unless you are desperate I wouldn't bother, others after us walked in and straight out. We were even charged for the Salad we didn't even order or want.

Wonderful crepes! Wonderful people! Good luck with your new restaurant. ❤️

Tips for Finding Great Vegetarian Food in Bayeux

Navigating a traditionally meat-centric cuisine can feel daunting, but a little preparation goes a long way. The local dining culture is shifting, and knowing how to communicate your needs will unlock a far better experience than simply scanning menus from the street. These practical strategies will help you eat well and confidently throughout your stay.

  1. Look beyond the "V" symbol: Many traditional French restaurants do not label vegetarian dishes, but that does not mean they lack options. Scan menus for "assiette de légumes" (vegetable plate), "galette complète sans jambon" (buckwheat crêpe without ham), or entrées like warm goat cheese salad. Often, combining two starters creates a superb meal.
  2. Call ahead for dinner reservations: If you are eyeing a more upscale bistro, call or email in advance. Mentioning your vegetarian requirement when booking gives the kitchen time to prepare something special rather than improvising a bland pasta dish on the spot.
  3. Embrace the crêperie culture: Breton-style crêperies are a vegetarian’s best friend in Normandy. The savoury buckwheat galettes are naturally gluten-free and can be filled with almost anything. Ask for the "galette végétarienne" or request a custom mix of egg, cheese, mushrooms, and tomatoes.
  4. Visit the Saturday market: The Saturday morning market on Rue Saint-Jean and Place Saint-Patrice is a feast for the senses. Stock up on local Camembert, Pont-l’Évêque, fresh bread, seasonal fruits, and cider. A picnic by the river Aure is often more memorable than a rushed restaurant lunch.
  5. Learn key French phrases: While many servers speak some English, a polite "Je suis végétarien(ne)" (I am vegetarian) or "Est-ce qu’il y a du bouillon de viande ou du poisson dans ce plat?" (Is there meat or fish stock in this dish?) shows respect and gets precise answers. Clarify that you do not eat fish, as "végétarien" is sometimes confused with "pescatarian" in France.

Bayeux rewards the curious eater. The city’s compact size means you are never far from a charming square or a quiet side street with a welcoming table.
