Sitting at the southern edge of Seville’s historic center, Parque de María Luisa is far more than just the city’s most famous green space. It is a sprawling tapestry of shaded pathways, tiled benches, and hidden monuments that serve as the gateway to some of Andalusia’s most significant cultural landmarks. While the park itself could easily occupy a full afternoon of wandering, its strategic location places visitors within walking distance of architectural wonders, riverside promenades, and authentic local experiences.
Understanding the geography of this area is key to planning an efficient itinerary. The park acts as a natural buffer between the dense, winding streets of the old Jewish Quarter and the broader, more modern avenues that lead toward the Guadalquivir River. Because the terrain is almost entirely flat and the climate is typically Mediterranean, exploring the surrounding attractions on foot is not only possible but highly recommended.
However, the sheer density of sights can be overwhelming for first-time visitors. You might find yourself standing at a crossroads, unsure whether to turn left toward a centuries-old palace or right toward a bustling, sun-drenched plaza. The beauty of this neighborhood is that you rarely have to choose; the attractions are interconnected, often flowing seamlessly from one to the next through gardens and grand boulevards.
The following guide is designed to help you prioritize your time. It focuses not just on the famous monuments, but on the practical details that make a visit smooth: the best times to go, what to look for, and how to connect these points of interest without backtracking. By treating the park as your central hub, you can unlock the best of Seville’s southern district in a single, well-structured day.
This selection includes a mix of grand architectural statements and quieter, more atmospheric corners. Whether you are a history buff, a photography enthusiast, or a family traveling with children, the area surrounding the park offers a diverse range of experiences. Each location listed below is accessible within a short walk from the park’s main gates.
To help you navigate, we have curated a list that balances the must-see icons with the local favorites that often get overlooked. These are places where the essence of Seville—its Moorish past, its Catholic grandeur, and its vibrant street life—comes into sharp focus. Prepare to walk, to sweat, and to be constantly amazed by the layers of history underfoot.
Without further delay, here are the most compelling destinations to explore once you step out from under the canopy of the park’s towering trees.

A truly stunning place and one of the highlights of Seville. The architecture is beautifully preserved, both inside and out, with incredible attention to detail throughout the palace. The courtyards, intricate decorations, and lovely gardens make it easy to spend several hours exploring.
I was glad to have a bottle of water with me, as the visit took around 2.5 hours at a comfortable pace. Buying tickets online in advance is definitely the best option, especially during busy periods. I also recommend combining your visit with the Cathedral, which is only about a 10-minute walk away.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, architecture, and beautiful gardens.
Don MacAuslan★★★★★
Visited on a walking tour. Carlos our guide was excellent. Stunning architecture, mosaics and colours. Also gardens are spectacular. Skip the line tickets are a must in high season. Also bring water if visiting in June as temps in seville in summer are surface of the sun hot! Highly recommend.

The Royal Alcázar of Seville is one of those places that makes you stop every few steps and say, “Okay, one more photo…”
The architecture is breathtaking, the details are incredible, and the gardens are absolutely magical. We could have spent hours wandering through the pathways and courtyards. Every corner feels like a postcard.
A few tips from a fellow traveler: book the earliest entry time possible because the Seville heat is no joke. Bring a fan, wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your headphones for the audio tour.
And ladies… wear your cutest outfit. 📸✨ There are photo opportunities everywhere. Seriously. Every archway, garden path, fountain, and courtyard is begging for a picture.
If you’re planning a trip to Seville, the Royal Alcázar is 100% worth it. Beautiful, historic, and somehow even more impressive in person than in photos.
10/10. Bring water, bring a fan, and make room on your phone for about 300 photos. 🇪🇸☀️🌴🏰📷
Édouard Baladès★★★★★
The mix of architectural styles makes this place truly enchanting. The gardens are vast and provide a welcome respite from the heat on Seville’s many sunny, hot days.
During peak season, be sure to book several days in advance, as the tickets are sold out every morning.

An absolutely breathtaking visit to the Real Alcázar of Seville. The palace is a stunning blend of history, art, and architecture, with intricate Mudéjar details, beautiful courtyards, and richly decorated rooms that feel like stepping back in time. The gardens are equally impressive—peaceful, expansive, and immaculately maintained, perfect for wandering and taking in the atmosphere. Every corner tells a story, and the overall experience is both culturally enriching and visually unforgettable. A must‑see landmark in Seville and one of the most beautiful historic sites I’ve ever visited. Highly recommended.

Entrance is 3€ for non-EU citizens. The facade is really unique. There was a exhibition about brain inside.
Igor Novoseltsev★★★★★
The museum is pretty small and not so rich as in other european big cities, but all exhibits are intetesting, and there are many VR and touch screen game stops. I went there with 9-years old boy, and was surprised to discover ať the end that 1.5 hours just flew.
Cheap tickets (3 euro), no crowd, toilets and benches on every floor, very nice historical building, excellent location (near Plaza de Espania) - 15 min walk from center.
We didn't go to Planetárium (3 euro) as next show was ať 18:00 and we were there around 14:00. So, i would recommed to call in advance and check show times. Probably it requires dark hours.
Bjorn Rispens★★★★☆
At the time of visiting quite an interesting exposition on brains with some perculair objects. Pretty small tho and other more standard stuff are only in Spanish. Very cheap with tickets of only 3€ (2€ for students), so quite a nice thing to do in Sevilla if you have more time
Olkanna★★★★★
So cheap, so interesting, there is VR experience and games, the exhibition were very nice, would recommend 100%
We visited the brain exhibition, everything had a translation in English, very nice
Different exhibition available depending on the times
Jonáš Veselý★★★★☆
The visit was nice. They had VR's too
but every time you would move it restarted. And gonna say it is dirty.
And it was small and not rich as other European cities. But gotta recommend.

A somewhat small but stunning collection of aquatic life from around the globe.
A lot of the tanks/enclosures seemed a little small but all animals looked incredibly healthy and well cared for with plenty of enrichment. They also have plenty of promotion for environmental preservation etc which is lovely to see
Tabatha Dennis Long★★★★☆
Parking garage on-site; beautifully done aquarium and the animals all housed appropriately. We enjoyed the exhibits and displays were in Spanish & English.
Paweł★★★★☆
We visited the aquarium in Seville and while it’s not extremely spectacular, it’s definitely a great attraction for children. The highlight is one large main tank, which really makes an impression. You can walk around it from several sides and see sharks, turtles and rays. There are a few spots where you can get very close to the glass and see the animals just centimeters away, which kids will absolutely love.
Parking was very convenient — we found a nearby parking lot via Google Maps and reached the entrance in one or two minutes. The ticket price feels fair for what’s offered, and the entire place is stroller-friendly.
I’m taking one star off because of an unpleasant situation near the reception area. There was a restroom that wasn’t clearly marked as staff-only, and when my wife tried to use it, a staff member reacted by shouting at her. This could definitely have been handled in a much more polite and guest-friendly way.
Overall, we still recommend this aquarium, especially for families with children.

Great family visit to the Acuario de Sevilla. The huge shark tank was a standout, and the anaconda snakes were a fun surprise. We also enjoyed the behind-the-scenes jellyfish area, which felt unique and educational.

A lovely green spot in Seville, full of ducks, birds, and wildlife. Our child had an absolute blast watching them! Many people feed the birds, often with bread or things that aren’t ideal for them — it would be good if some clear rules were in place. Overall, a very pleasant place to relax and enjoy nature, especially with kids.
Nicolás Martínez★★★★★
Beautiful spot close to Plaza de España. The entire park is very lush and refreshing. This particular place is so nice because of the swans, ducks and fountains. You have benches to sit on under massive trees, making you cool off from the southern Spanish heat.
Sylvia Lin★★★★★
Just across the Spanish plaza and quickly not many tourists around. Lots of docks and doves around the area. At least 3 swans in the water when I was there. Some locals are taking afternoon naps around the benches under the shade. At least one local tried to feed the birds; birds all know that's happening when suddenly all of them get up and flying to the person.

This little fountain and sitting area is a fantastic place to take a break and moment of rest whilst visiting Seville! It was quiet, shaded, and full of beautiful birds and vegetation! I would definitely recommend stopping here if you’re visiting plaza de España!

I had such a great experience here! It was quite busy when I visited, but honestly, it didn’t bother me at all.
There was also a flamenco performance happening at the time, which was such a fun and unexpected addition to the experience. I spent some time walking around, taking beautiful photos and even found a nice spot to sit down and read my book for a while.

A must-visit landmark in Seville! The architecture is stunning and offers amazing panoramic views of the city. The walkway at the top is well designed, and the views are completely different during the day and at night.
One of the best features is that with a single ticket, you can visit twice on the same day—once during the daytime and once again in the evening. This makes it a great value, as you get to experience the city in both daylight and with the beautiful nighttime illumination.
I highly recommend visiting before sunset, staying for the views, and then returning after dark to enjoy a completely different atmosphere. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Seville.
Nilima Begum★★★★★
Beautiful and picturesque views! Especially in the evening with the light show. We went just before sunset and the views were incredible! Quite busy at that time though so difficult to capture the individual pictures you may want. Aside from that, great views at the top and great vibes down below on the steps where people were singing and dancing! A family friendly evening out
Kev Hayward★★★★☆
Great view point to see the city. Booking in advance is recommended, and if you go in the day you can go back again once in the next 48hrs, so we used it to go after sunset to see the magnificent lights and city sights all lit up. We ate in the square opposite and watched as the sunset and the Setas then lit up, showing us the lights from underneath. Doesn't take you 40 minutes to walk around, unless you count the 15min virtual show at the end, which we didn't do.
Alaleh - FoodyTO★★★★★
This is a world’s largest wooden structure and a must-visit in Sevilla. It also creates a nice change in the older and historic part of the city. The structure is modern and unique, and walking around the top gives you a different view of Seville.
We visited here early evening to watch the sunset and also the beautiful lighting of the structure. We also enjoyed the 360 view of the city as we walked around the centre.
There’s also a short movie played at the end of the visit, which gives a nice history lesson.
Lee Hinchcliffe★★★★☆
Not bad, but if anything perhaps a little underwhelming overall, Seville doesn’t have much to see from a height, and various roof top bars would have given you the same expierience. Not a lot of money for a solo traveller but would add up for a family of 4. Queueing process was easy as can be, and all the staff I interacted with were super friendly as well. After reading various bits online I deliberately chose to go when the sun set which was the correct advise. What I would say is a lot of people obviously did the same, it was quite busy, and had to navigate around people taking photographs for social media. Obviously had to make changes due to the visitor numbers, I had read was wooden built, not that you would know that now.

A must do, whether you are religious or not. Steeped in history, beautiful decorated and incredible architecture.
Christopher Colombus tomb is located in the main hall.
The views from the tower are amazing, and reward the climb, although all ramps not steps - there are plenty of openings that allow a breeze into the tower or a place to sit and rest for a moment.

Very nice n big. Amazing work done inside the cathedral. Go with guide to have a better experience. Jesus life story wall made up of golden color is wonderful. The view from the bell tower is not so clear because there are wire fences all around. And there are ramps not stairs to go up. But the city view is beautiful from there. Both old n new architecture can be found in the city.

The La Giralda is the iconic bell tower of the Catedral de Sevilla in Seville, and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in southern Spain. Originally built in the 12th century during the Almohad dynasty as a minaret for the city’s main mosque, it was later transformed into a bell tower after the Christian conquest of Seville, reflecting the cultural changes brought by the Reconquista. Architecturally, the tower is a remarkable fusion of Islamic and Renaissance styles: the lower section preserves its Moorish design, with intricate brick patterns, arched windows, and geometric decoration, while the upper section was added in the 16th century, introducing classical Renaissance elements. The tower rises to about 104 meters and is crowned by the “Giraldillo,” a large bronze statue that functions as a weather vane and symbolizes faith. A unique feature of La Giralda is its interior system of ramps instead of stairs, originally designed to allow riders on horseback to ascend to the top. Today, visitors can walk up these ramps to enjoy panoramic views over Seville, including the cathedral, historic quarters, and the Guadalquivir River. As both a functional structure and a cultural symbol, La Giralda represents the layered history and architectural continuity of Seville across centuries.

Stunning History, Great for Kids (But Skip the Stroller!)
La Giralda is an absolutely magnificent historical landmark. The rich history inside the palace structure and the beautifully preserved relics are incredible to see in person.
If you are visiting with young kids, there are some wonderful highlights for them—our 4-year-old daughter absolutely loved the fish feeding and the pigeon feeding area, which kept her completely engaged and entertained!
However, a major heads-up for parents traveling with toddlers: there are no elevators here. If you bring a baby trolley or stroller, be prepared for some serious heavy lifting up and down narrow, historic staircases just to get inside and outside the main areas. Additionally, while the famous climb up the tower itself uses sloping ramps rather than traditional steps, the final stretch has narrow stairs, and strollers are not allowed up the tower for safety reasons.
Tip for parents: Leave the stroller at the designated hotel/check area or swap it for a baby carrier before you head inside. It is 100% worth the visit, but much easier to navigate without wheels!

A beautiful palace which was a residence of royalty. Kept very clean and well presented. The gardens are a haven and a wonderful place to sit and take in the atmosphere. Must have been a special place to live in.
It's a quiet place in comparison to the more well known tourist sites so makes for a relaxing excursion.
The audio guide is good. The information cards were faded, especially the English writing which was printed in a light colour while the Spanish one was in black ink. Made them much harder to read, especially if youre "mature" with eyes that arent the sharpest.
Walkable from the main sites in the centre of Seville.

Beautiful gardens and well taken care of palace. The tapestries, tiles and wood work are all so well taken care of - so impressive to see everything up close. Definitely worth a visit. They have nice bathrooms as well. There are also places to just sit in the garden and enjoy the weather.
Practical Tips for Exploring the Area
While the proximity of these attractions is convenient, navigating them comfortably requires a bit of local knowledge. The Sevillian sun can be intense, the siesta hours alter business schedules, and the sheer volume of tourists can change the atmosphere of a monument entirely. To ensure you spend more time enjoying the sights and less time waiting in lines or nursing sore feet, it is wise to prepare for the local rhythm of the city.
Start Early to Beat the Heat and the Crowds
Seville operates on a late schedule, but the best sightseeing happens in the morning. Many monuments open at 9:00 AM or 9:30 AM, and arriving at opening time allows you to experience the courtyards and halls before the large tour groups descend. The light is also softer in the morning, making it the ideal time for photography.
Wear Supportive Footwear, Not Just Sandals
While the terrain is flat, the surfaces are often uneven. You will be walking on cobblestones, gravel paths, and polished marble floors. A sturdy pair of walking shoes or high-quality sandals with arch support will save your feet from fatigue and prevent slips on the smooth stone inside palaces and museums.
Carry Water and Use the Park’s Shade
The Andalusian sun is unforgiving, even in the shoulder seasons. Always carry a refillable water bottle. Parque de María Luisa provides a cool, shaded corridor back to the city center, so use it strategically to cool down between visits. The dense canopy of the trees can feel several degrees cooler than the open plazas.
Respect the Siesta Schedule
Many smaller shops and some attractions may close between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, especially during the peak summer months. Plan your indoor museum visits for the morning, enjoy a long, leisurely lunch during the hottest part of the day, and save the outdoor plazas and river walks for the late afternoon and evening when the city comes back to life.
Look for Combined Ticket Options
If you plan to visit multiple monuments, ask about combined entry tickets or specific time slots. Some historical sites offer discounted entry on certain days of the week or free admission during the last hour of operation. Booking online in advance is highly recommended for the most popular palaces to secure your preferred time and avoid standing in the sun.
The area surrounding Parque de María Luisa represents the cultural heartbeat of Seville. It is a place where the lines between a public garden and a living museum blur, allowing you to transition from the scent of orange blossoms to the awe-inspiring scale of centuries-old architecture in a matter of minutes. By taking the time to explore these grounds slowly, you gain a deeper understanding of why this city has captivated travelers for generations.
When you finally find a quiet bench back inside the park, perhaps with a cool drink in hand, you will realize that the journey through these attractions was not just a checklist of sights. It was a walk through the soul of Seville itself—a city that wears its history not as a burden, but as a vibrant, living backdrop to everyday life.
