10 Best Tapas Bars Near CosmoCaixa Barcelona

After a morning spent exploring the wonders of science at CosmoCaixa, your appetite for discovery often extends to the culinary world. The area surrounding this iconic museum, nestled at the foot of the Tibidabo mountain, is a vibrant tapestry of residential charm and gastronomic excellence. While the neighborhood of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is known for its upscale dining, it also hides a treasure trove of authentic, casual eateries perfect for a quick bite or a leisurely afternoon.

Finding the perfect spot to rest your feet and refuel is essential to completing your Barcelona itinerary. You might be craving salty olives, crispy patatas bravas, or a refreshing caña to wash down a montadito. The good news is that you do not need to travel far from the museum’s doors to find a genuine slice of Spanish bar culture.

Whether you are traveling with family, visiting as a couple, or exploring solo, the local tapas scene offers something for everyone. From traditional taverns with decades of history to modern bars with a creative twist, the vicinity of CosmoCaixa is a surprisingly rich hunting ground for food lovers. You want quality ingredients, a lively atmosphere, and value for money, and this guide is designed to deliver exactly that.

Navigating the winding streets of the upper city can be daunting if you are unfamiliar with the terrain. While the Gothic Quarter and El Born are famous for their tapas, the local joints near the museum offer a more relaxed, authentic experience without the tourist crowds. This means faster service, friendlier staff, and often a better price point.

To help you avoid the tourist traps and eat like a local, we have curated a list of the finest establishments within a short walking distance or a quick metro ride from CosmoCaixa. We have considered not only the quality of the food but also the ambiance, the friendliness of the service, and the overall value. Each recommendation ensures you can taste the true essence of Catalan and Spanish hospitality.

These bars have been selected based on their consistency, reputation among local residents, and their ability to cater to a variety of tastes. Whether you are looking for a hearty portion of jamón ibérico or a delicate seafood tapa, you will find a match for your cravings below. We understand that after a day of walking, convenience is key, so we have prioritized accessibility from the museum.

So, get ready to trade the interactive exhibits for a fork and knife. This guide will take you through the bustling Plaça de Sarrià and the hidden corners of Sant Gervasi to find the most satisfying bites in the upper zone of Barcelona.

Honestly, an amazing experience. We randomly ended up here while looking for a place to have a quick drink. We didn’t even check the reviews, we just saw a terrace and sat down. The surprise came later when they brought us one of the best sangrias I’ve ever had! The same goes for the croquetas, not only were they extremely tasty, but they also had an amazing texture. That crunchiness is exactly what I expect in a croqueta. We had six, but I could have easily had twelve more. Also, the waiter was so, so nice! The only thing I would say is that sitting outside close to the road is a bit annoying, as cars drive fast and it gets noisy. But apart from that, I’ll definitely save this place and come back again.
Faina Kolossova★★★★★
It was really really good! Tartar and ensalada rusa 🔥🔥 & also waiter was super nice Cozy place for dinner ❤️
S. Ros★★★★★
We ordered steak with fries and croquettes as a starter, and both were really good. Overall, a great experience.

The place is nice. The Waiter is SO FRIENDLY. We only went there for some drinks but we will definitely come back❤️
Daria Kostyleva★★★★★
We stepped in accidentally and weren’t disappointed in slightest. Portions are smaller size, but don’t be fooled by it, it’s actually a lot! Calamari, cheesecake and spinach fritters were perfection. Totally coming back the next time I’m in BCN to taste the rest of the menu. The owner was very attentive, friendly and fun and even gave us an umbrella as it was raining!

Said is amazing - very attentive and provided us great recommendations of places to visit and things to do. This was our first place to eat after a long airplane ride and we felt right at home. The food is beyond delicious as well .

Excellent hole in the wall spot. Said is an excellent server and bartender. Makes you feel very welcome. You will leave full and happy. Tinto Verano and all the drinks are delicious as well as the food. The egg dish and shrimp and octopus skewer in guacamole was my favorite! highly recommend

Went here last minutes and loved it! David took care of so well! He was very patient and recommended great options. The food was great and reasonably priced. Got the toasted bread w/ tomato, spicy potatoes, and Cod fritters with truffle honey, Galician beef steak tartar skewers. loved all of them!! Would definitely come back with a small group!
Christopher Magaha★★★★★
We had an outstanding dinner here! Service was friendly and prompt and the food was absolutely amazing. I recommend the scallops, croquettes, and burata salad. Portion sizes are perfect for sharing and generous overall.
TC Tsang★★★★★
We absolutely love the food! It’s even better than La flauta that we tried yesterday!! The only downside is the chicken drumstick being a bit dry, otherwise the food/vibe/service are wonderful!

Exceptional service from our server tonight in Barcelona. Melina went above and beyond for our family — even arranging prawns that weren’t on the menu specially for our daughter. She also immediately replaced an oyster that didn’t taste right without hesitation, and every recommendation she gave us for dinner was spot on. We genuinely loved every dish and felt so well taken care of throughout the meal. Thank you for making our evening so memorable!
Erica Lee★★★★★
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Vivo Tapas. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional—fresh, vibrant, and beautifully presented. Every dish was full of flavor, but a few truly stood out. The chef’s octopus was perfectly cooked and incredibly tender, the fried squid ink dish was unforgettable, and the paella… I still can’t stop thinking about it. Honestly, it was so good it makes me want to fly back to Barcelona just to have it again. The service was just as impressive as the food. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. Their recommendations were spot-on and made our dining experience even more special. A special thank you to our servers, Matias and Tamara, who took such great care of us throughout the evening. And of course, compliments to the chef—truly outstanding. This is a place I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona.
Cheuk .GJ★★★★★
Excellent food, very chill atmosphere. The pork I had is probably the best I have had: melt in your mouth, juicy, full of flavour. Another one I would recommend is the octopus which was cooked to perfection. Other tapas were also very good. The scallop was a bit of a letdown because of the price and the quality of the scallop wasn’t the best. But overall the food were still amazing. Also shout out to Emanuele who gave us exceptional service!
Elhgyne A.★★★★☆
We definitely loved the vibe! The place was beautiful, upscale, and aesthetically pleasing. Food however, did not surpass our expectation. It was all good, nothing expectacular though. Felt like we paid more for the presentation. Service was great. For a date night or a splurge, not bad.
Mindy Nguyen★★★★★
Excellent service and ambience and we also came on a night with a live singer performance! Our server, Tamara was so sweet and friendly and recommended one of our favorite dishes of the night, the sea bass carpaccio. Thank you Tamara! Would highly recommend for a great evening or date night.

1) Price: very reasonable. 2) Atmosphere: buzzing, busy, packed house but not noisy, can’t hear others conversation. We are on top of each other, but didn’t feel being crowded. 3) wait staff: organized, waltzing between tables, two waiters seamlessly took care of us. 4) service: dishes were freshly cooked delivered to us at lightening speed. 5) food: excellent. Nothing fancy, cuttlefish was tender, the film and the skin were completely removed, shrimps were cleaned well, tenderloins were cooked to perfection with pink center. I would have preferred the pimiento pardon peppers to be bigger especially during the July August peak harvest season. 2 of us, we had 8 dishes and 2 desserts. 6) there were a lot of people, however we didn’t wait long. My compliments to the owner and management for running the restaurant like a well oiled machine and for giving us a great experience.
AB Photography★★★★★
It was a very pleasant dining experience. The Queueing system was very efficient. Right after we were seated, they had our order taken and food was served pretty quickly. Jon was a very pleasant person that made our dining experience even better. He was so confident that we would love their dessert, and it turned out really good! I would definitely be back for the bread pudding!
Dwight Kenneth★★☆☆☆
Not sure what all the hype is about. The food was kind of bland. The beef tenderloin has way too much hype around it. The foie gras was just OK. We also tried the cuddle fish and the egg on top of the shoestring fries. We also got the patatas bravas. Super happy that we didn’t have to wait in line for this. The service was pretty quick. But nothing spectacular. Maybe I just went when they had an off day. But I will never recommend this place to anybody. We were told to try this place from a few friends as well as an AI Chatbot. But this place completely disappointed. If we didn’t come in here with any expectations, I would’ve still thought that the food was super bland.
P N★★★★☆
This place is a massive hotspot! They don’t take any reservations, you absolutely have to arrive early to queue up. The average wait time is easily over 30 minutes. My advice is to put your name down early and explore the area; the restaurant is tucked away just off a main avenue, surrounded by plenty of great shops and other restaurants to pass the time. On our last visit, we waited nearly 60 minutes. The atmosphere outside was absolutely fantastic and well worth the wait. The seafood here is highly recommended. We ordered the grilled squid (Calamar a la Plancha), the anchovy and tomato salad (Ensalada de Tomate con Anchoas), and the Spanish razor clams (Navajas), along with a lPadrón and mini hot dogs. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. I didn't realize until after doing some research later that their steak with foie gras toast (Solomillo con Foie) is also one of their legendary dishes—I missed out on it this time, but I will definitely try it on my next visit! As for dessert, it was nothing special. I’d recommend saving your stomach quota and heading to a nearby gelato shop or finding a proper Basque cheesecake instead. Overall, it's a must-visit for tapas lovers in the city! PS- Compared to Cervecería Catalana, I actually prefer Vinitus, another restaurant under the same group which is also located nearby. The food quality is just as amazing, and I personally enjoyed the overall vibe and dining experience there a bit more.
Maria Kalayjian★★★★★
Absolutely fantastic tapas experience in Barcelona! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The food was incredible—every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The sangria was without a doubt the best I’ve had in my entire life! The atmosphere was warm and vibrant, and the service was excellent from start to finish. If you’re looking for authentic tapas and an unforgettable dining experience in Barcelona, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

We came on our 1st night and it was so good we came on our last night. Sabina looked after us both times and she was a delight. We don’t speak Spanish (although we try badly) but her English was great and she was super patient. She made great recommendations both nights and the food was amazing both nights. If the ceviche is recommended get it! The risotto with iberico and portabello is super tasty, and their croquettes should not be missed.
Quoc Hao Mach★★★★☆
We ordered six dishes at MarBar: pan con tomate, patatas bravas, anchovies with chips, tacos de pollo, scallops, and grilled octopus. The food was excellent across the board. The pan con tomate stood out right away, the bread was light, crisp, and carried a fresh tomato flavour that set the tone for the meal. Every dish that followed was cooked with care and precision. The octopus was tender, the scallops were done just right, and everything came out flavourful and well balanced. Service was smooth and welcoming. The staff were pleasant, attentive, and comfortable switching to English, which made the experience easy and relaxed. The only downside was that tap water was not available, so we had to purchase bottled water. Overall, a very strong experience. Great food, solid service, and a place worth returning to.

Delicious food with creative flavour fusions. I’ve tried about half the menu already and keep coming back. I’ve brought guests along, and they loved it too. Totally recommend it!

Perfect place to dine and relax. The food was excellent; we loved everything, especially the cod. The staff were very accommodating, always smiling, and made us feel welcome with their positive attitude. Thank you for the wonderful experience. After some disappointing customer service experiences in Madrid, it was refreshing to receive such warm hospitality here in Barcelona.

This was not a great meal BUT the staff was soooo friendly and kind, I’m still happy we ate here. They were accommodating to us with the language and the sweet server even offered our daughter her own jacket when our daughter was chilly outside. The oxtail croquetas were our favorite!
Elina Oleinikaitė★★★★★
So so homey and the portion/price ratio amazing. Cheap and strong drinks. The lady running/serving the place is so sweet. Not crowded, very local.
Cassidy Wilder★★★★★
We randomly stopped at this little bar on our walk to the metro from Park Guell. The food was delicious and super reasonably priced. We were stayed closer to the beach on this trip and this was a breath of fresh air from the more touristy restaurants. We had paella, mushrooms with garlic and bread with grated tomato. We also had the flan, tinto de verano and calimocho. It was their perfect place to try a lot of the classic Spanish food as a tourist. I would go again!!!
Patrycja Jakóbiak★★★☆☆
- Trinxat de la Cerdanya – tasted like watery mashed potatoes and sat uncomfortably on the stomach. - Bikini sandwich – an ordinary sandwich, not bad but nothing memorable. Good spot for coffee, but the food was quite basic and not very enjoyable. We visited in the morning, so perhaps the evening menu is better. The only menu we could see was a board on the table, and the choices didn’t look very exciting.

Great place. First of all the hostess was very kind to begin with. We ordered lots of lots of tapas and they were all lovely. Our waiter Moha was kind and attentive. Thank you for the experience. Definitely will be back. Keep up the good work!

TERAS FEE %15 BE AWARE! I came here with really high expectations – the ratings were great and the prices looked very reasonable. I was genuinely excited to try this place. The food was good, don't get me wrong – but honestly, I've had better tapas elsewhere in Barcelona. However, the real shock came when we received the bill. Nowhere on the menu did it mention that there's a 15% service charge for sitting on the terrace! Normally, even a 10% service fee wouldn't bother me, but 15% just for being outside? That's completely unreasonable and feels like a hidden rip-off. When I politely asked about it, the response I got was really unpleasant and rude – absolutely uncalled for. So my advice: be very careful if you decide to sit on the terrace. Check the bill thoroughly and ask about extra charges beforehand. The food is fine, but the hidden fees and attitude left a very bad taste. Won't be coming back.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolute 5-star experience! 🌟 The atmosphere here is top-notch. Huge thanks to Tina and Oscar for their incredibly friendly and professional service, as well as their spot-on menu recommendations! The food tasted amazing, especially the super fresh seafood. A truly perfect experience from start to finish. Highly recommend! 👍

We had such a great experience at Taller de Tapas! From the moment we sat down, Oscar and Marcelo made us feel genuinely welcome. They took the time to learn both my boyfriend’s and my names, which made the service feel so personal and fun. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was lively, and the view was beautiful. To top it all off, they surprised us with a complimentary shot at the end of our meal, which was such a thoughtful touch. We’ve eaten at a few different restaurants along this street, and this was by far our favorite. If you’re looking for amazing food, outstanding service, and a memorable experience, we highly recommend Taller de Tapas!

We went here two nights in a row and may go back again tonight! All the people were so friendly. A younger vibe. Good food options and great drinks! Yes-they speak English. Open late!

Great experience at La Tapas in Barcelona. Luis was an awesome server, he was super friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We had the calamari and a glass of white wine, and both were excellent. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were looking for. Would definitely come back the next time we’re in Barcelona! 🇪🇸🍷🦑

Tips for Enjoying Tapas Near CosmoCaixa

To make the most of your culinary excursion in this distinguished part of Barcelona, it helps to understand the local dining etiquette and timing. The rhythm of eating in Spain is specific, and aligning yourself with it will ensure you get the freshest food and the best atmosphere. Here are some essential tips to enhance your tapas experience around CosmoCaixa.

1. Time Your Visit Like a Local
Spaniards generally eat lunch between 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM, and dinner rarely starts before 8:30 PM. If you visit a tapas bar at 6:00 PM, you might find the kitchen closed or the atmosphere quiet. The best time to visit after leaving the museum is usually straight for a late lunch, as many bars in the Sarrià district offer excellent "Menú del Día" options during the week which provide great value.

2. Embrace the "Barra" (The Counter)
While table service is common, the true soul of a tapas bar is at the counter. Standing or sitting at the bar allows you to point directly at the dishes you want, especially if they are displayed in a glass case. This is often the fastest way to get served during busy periods and allows you to interact with the bartenders, who are usually happy to recommend their specialty of the house.

3. Don’t Skip the Vermut
While beer and wine are standard, the neighborhood of Sarrià has a strong tradition of drinking vermouth (vermut). It is typically served over ice with a slice of orange and a green olive. Ordering a "vermut" before your meal is a deeply local ritual that pairs perfectly with salty anchovies, chips, and olives. It is the perfect way to start a leisurely afternoon after a museum visit.

4. Order a Mix of Raciones and Tapas
Tapas are small portions, while "raciones" are larger plates meant for sharing. If you are in a group, ordering a few raciones to share at the center of the table is more economical than ordering individual tapas for everyone. Be sure to ask for the "pan con tomate" (bread with tomato) to accompany your cured meats and cheeses; it is a staple of the Catalan table that balances the richness of the other dishes.

5. Look for the Daily Specials
Many of the best bars near CosmoCaixa pride themselves on market-fresh produce. Before looking at the standard menu, ask if there is anything "fuera de carta" (off the menu) or check the chalkboards on the walls. These specials often feature seasonal ingredients like wild mushrooms in the autumn, calcots in the late winter, or fresh seafood that arrived that morning.

The area surrounding CosmoCaixa offers a dining experience that is distinctly more residential than the city center, giving you a glimpse into the daily lives of Barcelonians. Choosing to eat here means supporting local family businesses that have been serving the community for generations. It is an opportunity to slow down, savor your food, and appreciate the quieter, more elegant side of Barcelona’s gastronomy.

As you leave the museum and wander down towards Plaça de Sarrià or Avinguda del Tibidabo, let your senses guide you. The sound of clinking glasses, the aroma of garlic and olive oil, and the sight of a crowded terrace are all signs of a great meal waiting to happen. Whether you choose a historic bodega or a modern gastrobar, you are guaranteed to find the perfect bite to complement your day of exploration.
