10 Best Tapas Bars Near Catedral de Sevilla

Finding the perfect tapas bar in Seville is less about following a map and more about following the rhythm of the city. The area surrounding the Catedral de Sevilla—the largest Gothic cathedral in the world—is a dizzying maze of narrow, winding streets that pulse with history, flamenco, and the constant clinking of glasses. It is a neighborhood where the scent of orange blossoms often mingles with sizzling garlic and cured jamón, creating an atmosphere that is uniquely Andalusian.

However, navigating the streets directly adjacent to such a monumental landmark comes with a distinct challenge: tourist traps. While the views of the Giralda are spectacular from the surrounding plazas, the quality of the food directly in the shadow of the cathedral can be inconsistent. Many visitors fall into the trap of sitting down at the first sun-drenched terrace they see, only to be met with microwaved patatas bravas and inflated prices that reflect the real estate, not the quality of the cooking.

To eat like a local, you must understand the "tapeo" culture. Sevillanos rarely sit down for a single large meal; instead, they move from bar to bar, standing at the counter or squeezing into a small table, ordering a drink and one or two small plates before moving on. This is a social ritual, a way to catch up with friends while sampling the best each establishment has to offer. The true gems are often hidden down side streets, identifiable by a crowd of locals spilling out onto the cobblestones and a floor littered with discarded napkins and toothpicks.

The area surrounding the Cathedral is bordered by some of the most historic neighborhoods in the city, including Santa Cruz, El Arenal, and the edges of Triana across the river. Each of these districts offers a slightly different flavor of Sevillian cuisine. Whether you are looking for a modern, innovative twist on a classic dish or a century-old recipe that has remained unchanged for generations, the perimeter of the Cathedral serves as the perfect starting point for a culinary adventure.

Because the Cathedral is the epicenter of tourism, the best strategy is to walk just five to ten minutes away from the main facade. By doing so, you trade the multi-lingual picture menus for chalkboards written in Spanish, and you trade indifferent service for the warm hospitality of family-run businesses. It is here, in the less polished corners of the old town, that you will find the soul of Seville on a plate.

The culinary identity of this region relies heavily on high-quality, simple ingredients. Expect to find an abundance of Iberian pork, fresh seafood brought inland from the coast, sherry wines from Jerez, and olive oil from the surrounding Andalusian countryside. The bars selected below represent a mix of historic institutions and contemporary hotspots, all united by their commitment to quality and their proximity to the Giralda.

Whether you have just finished touring the Cathedral and the Real Alcázar, or you are simply looking for a place to escape the afternoon heat with a chilled glass of Manzanilla, this guide is designed to steer you toward the most authentic experiences. Here are the best tapas bars to visit within walking distance of the Catedral de Sevilla.

amazing food, best oxtail and carrillada with deep rich flavours despite being located just opposite the cathedral, this is not a tourist trap, with average pricing and amazing food. came back on my second night for supper too. small tapas portions were available for most dishes too

We had a lovely dinner here while visiting Sevilla. Every tapa we ordered was delicious, especially the pork sirloin, garlic prawns, shrimp fritters, and aubergine with goat cheese. Our waitress was a lot of fun and wonderful with our girls. We weren't able to get an outdoor table, but ended up loving our seat inside. There was so much to look at, and we still had a great view of everyone walking along Calle Mateos Gago.
Ioanna★★★★★
The best place to enjoy tapas and have a glass of wine, with a very warm atmosphere and an exceptionally traditional setting—so much so that you find yourself admiring it the whole time. It’s ideal, especially given its location near attractions like the church. The staff are extremely polite and very fast. You simply can’t come to Seville and not visit this place!
Vandita Ramphul★★★★☆
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the waiters were very friendly. The aubergine and goat cheese was very good. The crispy shrimp was a bit salty though. Overall was a good experience.

We saw all of the high reviews and decided to give Bar Catedral a try, and we were not disappointed! Tinto de verano, vino de naranja, and sangria were excellent, not too sweet or overpowering. We also ordered Carrillada De Cerdo, garlic prawn croquettes, and the paella for 2. The paella was so large it was enough to share with my family of 5. I also wanted to highlight Gema who made our visit here very memorable. She was friendly, attentive, and hospitable! Overall, would recommend Bar Catedral for a reasonably priced round of tapas and drinks, accompanied by great service and friendly staff.

This is the best tapas bar if you want to experience a truly local and convivial atmosphere. It’s always packed, though. Even though I don’t speak Spanish, other customers helped me out, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. The food was delicious, the ambience was great, and I even met a gentleman who unexpectedly paid my bill, as well as the bill of a French couple sitting next to me. I didn’t understand what was happening at first, but if he ever comes across this comment, I would love to thank him properly and get in touch. The charm of Spain I would say.

we had been coming to this place everyday for our 3 days stay in Silvia. food and drinks are cheap and delicious. always packed with people so there were not many seats available, most people stand . Definitely check thus place out if you are around .

A wonderful breakfast experience with an incredible view. We tried several tostadas with different spreads, and every single one was delicious. Simple ingredients done exceptionally well, full of flavor and perfectly prepared. The beautiful scenery made the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for a relaxing and satisfying breakfast.

My husband and I chose this place for our very first tapas experience and OMG it was overwhelming but so much fun😂 Thank you Senor Manuel for being patient with us! He was super friendly and nice. You are the best!!!! We just went up to the bar and ordered with no problem. The serving time was super fast! We were able to grab a seat later on and made friends with people sitting around us. Everything was delicious and so much fun! Highly recommended just for the experience but food was also good. Huevas fritas was our favorite😋

Tapas start at just over 3 euros, which is an amazing price for a location in the heart of a major city like Seville. Plus, the food is delicious. The waitstaff are attentive, and the place is bustling with energy. It’s a tapas bar that left me feeling nothing but satisfied. There are only about four tables on the terrace. It was lucky to get a seat here?

Islamorada restorana: Our waiter, Mr. Williams came to our table and asked “okay, French, English, Spanish” we answered “عربي" and out of all the restaurants we passed by, we picked the one where a Sevillian Lebanese gentleman greeted us. We gladly put aside the menus and simply said we would like fish dishes so please your expertise. He had suggested the sword fish since it is a true Andalusian dish, and I wanted sardines so the next best thing available was anchovies, which were the star dish personally speaking and to my sister as well a lovely meal. Crispy, succulent and excellently prepared. The calamari was a bit too salty for our palates but would kindly suggest less salt next times. There was another dish, two anchovies each on a piece of long crispy bread, also this would go according to different tastes of palates, so personally speaking, I’ve tried it once and I think is enough. In total we had five dishes, grilled shrimps, two different anchovy dishes, calamari and swordfish. Star dish: Fried Anchovies (well prepared, well cleaned and excellently seasoned). Crispy, tasty, well cooked and absolutely deliciosa!!!! Maybe again: Perhaps calamari but just less salt please. Well prepared. The swordfish has a definite Andalusian twist with the sweet succulent green chalapas. Wouldn’t order again: shrimps (unfortunately not cleaned but alright in taste, and not well grilled, please know I am a true fish eater and have tasted all sorts of fish and seafood from the gulf peninsula to the Mediterranean Sea and baltics, both river and sea fish) so my choices will certainly NOT disappoint and ofcourse I will try to be as kind and fair as possible since the waiters Alberto and Williams were at the utmost respect and welcoming so deserves the visit! 🇪🇸🙌🏻💃🏼. FYI, shrimp price wasn’t on the menu, so I’m not sure how much we were charged for it, kindly ask and verify. “May Allah increase your happy travels” - H.H.H 💚

Very warm and welcoming staff which was a great start to the meal. The food was excellent and I could see why it had such a good rating already. Started with the Pareja De Gildas which were delicious little skewers. Next up were the Croquetas De La Abulea which were also excellent. Crunchy, gooey, and perfectly cheesy with jamon. Lastly the tapas version of the Carrillera Iberica En Salsa. Tender meat, tasty sauce. Highly recommend a stop here.

Quiet, warm place serving delicious authentic tapas in generous portions. We went here for dinner and were met with lovely service. Good tinto de verano and house white wines. The tortilla with ruffle is a must try!! The best thing we ordered . The patata bravas were also crispy and light and the pardon pepper were generous. We really enjoyed the pork cheeks, the sauce was rich and very flavourful. Overall an excellent meal, would love to come again.

Lunch at this bar was the perfect way to start our stay in Sevilla! The drinks were excellent, service was quick (thank you Costin!), and the food was outstanding. The restaurant itself is beautiful with a relaxed feel. We shared a tortilla that I'll be dreaming about for months, and the salads were incredibly fresh. If you're visiting Sevilla, make this your first stop to refresh from your travels.

The food was amazing. The best tapas I’ve ever eaten in Spain service was fast and our waiter Daniel was really nice and helpful to get the best out of their delicious and varied selection of food. Quantities are definately not a problem there. Tou can go there eyes closed.

Located right by the Seville Cathedral, this tapas bar is opened from 12 to 12 everyday & is continuously packed! However the lady of the house who keeps her eye out for guests & tables does an amazing job of getting people seated. We arrived just past 9 pm & were seated within 15 minutes. Service once seated is prompt & friendly. Limited English is spoken but they have an English menu. The Rabo de Toros (Ox tail stew) was one of the best we’ve ever had. The garlic prawns also were good as were the grilled peppers (served cold) & russian potatoes. Looking around - I think its hard to go wrong here as all dishes served around us looked delicious as well. It may seem touristy based on its location but the food is really good! We spent about Euro 25 per head & left satiated & happy.

La Sacristía is a great little tapas spot in a very convenient location, just a short walk from the beautiful Seville Cathedral. It’s the perfect place to stop for a drink and some food after exploring the area. The beer was excellent and served properly cold, which was perfect after walking around the city. We also had the gambas tapas and they were absolutely delicious, fresh, tasty and full of flavour. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the service was quick and welcoming. If you’re near the Cathedral and looking for a simple, authentic place for a beer and good tapas, La Sacristía is definitely worth a visit.
Paulo Loon★★★★★
Reasonable prices, delicious dishes and good serves of spirits. But the thing that keeps me coming back, and I have for 15 years is the Patatas Bravas. Stunning. A home made recipe, nothing like any you’ll have had in any other tapas bar in Spain. No mix of ketchup and mayo here. It’s outstanding. Come for it alone.
Kjartan Abel★★★★☆
We had a pleasant visit to La Sacristia. The food is solid and traditional, though it lacks that final wow factor to reach the very top. The service was excellent. Even though the restaurant was completely full, the staff stayed professional and attentive. It is not easy to manage such a busy floor, so they deserve a lot of credit for that. A reliable spot for a traditional tapas experience in Seville.
Darren Cantwell★★★★★
Really tasty and affordable tapas right in the heart of Seville. The best part is the servers. They are really friendly and welcoming.

Our favorite restaurant in Seville was La Bartola. Delicious tapas, great sangria for less than 3 Euros and very friendly servers. We are still dreaming about the Iberian pork cheek stew over potato purée, the caponata, croquettes and homemade desserts. We ate there 3 times during our visit it is that good!
J Yu★★★★★
Really tasty food here! We ordered a few tapas and everything was great, especially the baby squid, swordfish roll, pig cheek, and beef. Service was fast for the first round, but a bit slower on the second. The place has a great vibe, very lively at night and can get busy. Prices are very reasonable. Overall, a great dinner spot.

We were there last Thursday for dinner and we weren't disappointed. We've eaten a meal without paying a lot of money and the atmosphere was quite nice due to the smilling staff. We've really enjoyed the food. Everything was simply amazing so - in my opinion - you should visit "La Bartola" and you won't regret for no doubt! 🤩
Jane Mathias★★★★★
The best food I had in all of Seville.. stopped by this place for late dinner during my recent trip to Seville and this place did not disappoint. We ordered their roasted lamb with cous cous, garlic shrimp croquetta (that was the croquetta of the day), pork cheek stew with potato purée and the chocolate panna cotta for dessert. We also ordered their sangria and tinto de verano. Every dish we ordered was AMAZING - tasty flavorful well seasoned melt in your mouth meat bursting with flavors. We devoured every bite and it was hard to pick a favorite. Both the lamb and pork dishes were 11/10. Not just the taste but the presentation of every tapa was fantastic. Their drinks were also great. The dessert was to die for. This place is super packed during peak dinner hours and there is barely any room to stand. Since we walked in around 11pm, we got a seat and were well taken care of all thru the night. Also noticed alot of veggie options on the menu which was great. Service was awesome ambience is chic. I am certain I am going to crave their tapas once I am back home. Highly highly recommend this place when in Seville.
Husna★★★★★
We tried several things, the anchovies, cheese, sushi verdura, stuffed zucchini, tataki de salmon, thai red rice as well as eggplant salad. The thai red rice was our least favourite but everything else was delicious. There is always a line up here around dinner time but the staff are amazing and get the line moving quickly. We were impressed with our server as she was gracefully attending to a dozen tables and didn't forget any of our requests.

We had a great time at this restaurant. All tapas were delicious, one better than the other. Special mention to the fantastic team members who looked after us, Gregory at the beginning of the service and Belèn towards the end of our dinning experience! We had a lovely time and we highly recommend this place to anyone. ❤️
Xiao Ruan★★★★★
We had a wonderful dining experience here. The atmosphere was beautiful and made for a very enjoyable evening. A special thank you to Belen, who was incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. Her recommendations were absolutely spot on, and every dish she suggested was delicious. We highly recommend the Iberian ham, scallops, and foie gras. The ham was rich, silky, and beautifully flavorful. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the creamy sauce with the accompanying garnish added wonderful depth and texture. The foie gras was surprisingly light and not greasy at all, and pairing it with the crispy toasted bread was simply perfect. To top it all off, we were treated to a complimentary sweet red wine after the meal, which was a lovely surprise and a perfect ending to an outstanding dining experience. Thank you again, Belen, for your exceptional hospitality. We would definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting!

We are holidaying and stumbled upon this place. Lovely vibe and decor, but the food, incredible! I am gluten free and was made to feel very so welcome! So much choice, and a completely separate menu to choose from. We had a great evening. I wanted to thank the waitress for being so attentive, knowledgeable and friendly (Dalton sisters). HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place 🖤

On our first day in Seville, we celebrated my Mum’s birthday with a meal out at El Pasage Tapas. For starters we shared patatas bravas and Chef’s croquettes. For mains we also shared the grilled cuttlefish with pumpkin in squid ink sauce and the Iberian pork cheek with a base of ratatouille and gratin aioli. We would have preferred if all the dishes had arrived at the same time as the starters would have accompanied the mains really well as sides. We did request this with the waiter but he must have misunderstood what we were asking.
Aswad Qadeer★★★★☆
Our waiter was amazing. Explained the menu to us which was a bit confusing as it was a mix of small and large plates but wasn't obvious. He recommended a lovely white wine. Was attentive throughout. The food was amazing. Beef burger perfectly cooked. Tuna dish perfect. Expensive but delightful scallops to start along with a Caprese Salad. Wonderful presentation of the food too. Would definitely recommend.

This is certainly one of the best bars/restaurants in the area. Do take the time to enjoy the history and architecture of the building. However the charm is in obtaining an outside table and watching the world pass by. Service team are quite friendly and reactive. We visited several times and our experiences were consistent across the visits. Foods is quite good and certainly good value, presentation is a little lacking on certain dishes. Salads were particularly enjoyable. Overall a bar not to miss.
Nyxcel Barrera★★★★☆
If you are touring around the area on the clock and finding a place to dine, you may want to skip the place as it takes a while to get served though the food is 10 out 10 especially the fried goat and grilled baby squid with black rice amazing. The staff is not so accommodating but nice. The first guy who serve was fast but when the lady took over up until the writing of this review i still don’t have my soda and my sangria is up. 🙈 if I was choking i’d be dead now. On a serious note. I would recommend the place as the food is tasty just spare ample time to dine here.

Hubby found this recommended on Pinterest so we came here after one of our excursions. Not to be disappointed! Best Jamón we had the whole of our visit to Seville. They were very busy inside and out but they had a table For us by the window.. met some wonderful people that were students and had made friends in a hostel the night before. We had Tapas and drinks and had a lovely time there. The decor is quite something ☺️

Luckily there’s seating upstairs and people were just leaving, so we snagged a table. The view of the dining area from there is neat. The service was quick and friendly. The food was hot and tasty. This was the perfect place to grab some food and cold drinks, you should definitely dine here!

We have mixed feelings about this restaurant. First day we came, sit inside everything was perfect! Staff were attentive, friendly and the food was absolutely amazing! We had 6 tapas and all of them were absolutely great! Then having in mind such a great experience we came today again, but now everything seemed different. We sat outside, lady working there was so nervous and angry and we were waiting for someone to take the order for a really long time, after that they were bringing food really slowly, day before we god 6 tapas at the same time. Food is truly great but I don’t know what happened today. Salmorejo, spinach with cheese, tortilla patata, goat cheese with raspberry jam, absolutely delicious! Also they say they have WiFi but they don’t know the password and it’s only for staff….?

We visited this bar near the cathedral. Surprisingly few tourists, rather local Spaniards. They had traditional Andalusian food in small ceramic bowls - just like in the attached photos. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent tapas. I'm always happy to come back here. Great place. Pepa a Slávka

We ate here twice whilst in Seville and enjoyed the tapas both times. We didn't have a poor dish. It was all very tasty and reasonably priced. It was busy on both occasions but the service was still prompt and the food came quickly.
Vandita Ramphul★★★☆☆
The place itself was nice, and I liked the location. It was on a busy and lively street. The food was okay..I enjoyed it. But the service could have been a lot better. Only one of the waiters was nice and friendly. The others looked liked they were annoyed. I wanted a table inside as I was cold, I got offered a table with is just next to the man's toilet. Anytime someone goes in, I get a direct view of the toilet. I asked nicely to change seat (given there were some tables free) and the lady looked very annoyed with me..I even apologised for the hassle..but she did not reply and just suggested another table which was much better. I don't think not wanting to sit right in direct view of a toilet is being too demanding.
Willie Ruiz★★★★☆
Great atmosphere right off a busy street with street seating. Tapas were good. Pork chops as very good and tasteful. Good service.

The food is so so good, and cheap aswell. The staff friendly, and you don't need to wait so long. We recommend the stew pork and black noodle, so good. Only one problem is restaurant quite small, and the table is suitable for 2, so if you go 3 people or more you need to wait abit. We have 2 adults and 1 child, total just €27. Unbelievable 🥰

Great spot with reasonable prices and a cool vibe. It’s very small, so you’ll probably have to wait for a table, but it’s worth it. The mushroom croquettes and roja pesto bruschetta were standout dishes. The sangria is strong, and the tinto de verano is really refreshing. Definitely recommend!
Chloe T★★★☆☆
Tapas bar. You have to go up to the counter to order and get your food and drinks. Staff weren’t too friendly as it was quite busy. The croquettes were nice. However the lasagna and squid noodles were not. Maybe it was my fault for ordering this at a Spanish tapas bar. Anyways, would advise not to get them.

This was one of my favorite places in seville! Went there for lunch and just wow. Cheese and olive was good. Paella was also okay. Slow cooked pork cheek was to die for! Lasagna wasnt as good as others recommend.

Oh my goodness, you won’t believe how amazing this place is! The food is absolutely incredible, and the rustic ambiance is just perfect. It’s a small and fun place, so you can feel right at home. Trust me, don’t think about it, just go! The staff were so friendly and welcoming, they really helped to create the charm of the place. There were plenty of food options to choose from, including some free options. The drinks were also decent, and the overall vibe was just cool and inviting. It can get a bit crowded sometimes, but that’s just part of the charm, you know? We ate a lot and the prices were really reasonable for the amount we ate. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Keep up the great work folks!

Tips for Enjoying Tapas Near the Cathedral

To make the most of your culinary journey around the historic center of Seville, it helps to understand a few local customs and practical strategies. Dining near a major tourist attraction requires a bit of insider knowledge to ensure you are getting the best value and the highest quality food. By adjusting your schedule and ordering habits, you can dine seamlessly alongside Sevillanos and experience the city as it is meant to be enjoyed.

  1. Embrace the "Barra" (The Counter): The best seats in the house are often standing at the bar. This allows you to see the tapas on display, point at what looks good, and interact with the bartenders. It is also significantly easier to get served quickly at the counter than it is to wait for a free table in a busy square.
  2. Time Your Visit Carefully: Spanish eating times differ from the rest of Europe. Lunch (La Comida) typically runs from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, while dinner starts late, usually after 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM. If you try to eat at 6:00 PM, you will find many kitchens closed or serving only cold dishes. Arrive early (around 1:00 PM or 8:00 PM) to secure a spot before the rush.
  3. Order the "Media Ración": If you are in a group or particularly hungry, most bars offer their tapas in two sizes: a small "tapa" and a larger "media ración" (half portion). Ordering a few media raciones to share is often more economical and satisfying than ordering many individual small plates.
  4. Look for the Napkins on the Floor: A messy floor is a sign of a good bar. In Seville, it is customary to discard your used napkins, toothpicks, and shrimp shells onto the floor. If a bar has a pristine floor during peak hours, it often indicates a lack of local clientele or an overbearing focus on tourists.
  5. Venture Beyond Sangria: While sangria is available, it is largely a tourist drink. To drink like a local, order a "caña" (small draft beer), a "tinto de verano" (red wine with lemon soda), or a glass of "Manzanilla" or "Fino" sherry. Sherry pairs exceptionally well with seafood and fried tapas.
  6. Ask for the "Especialidad de la Casa": Every great tapas bar has a signature dish that they do better than anyone else. Instead of ordering generic items like patatas bravas everywhere you go, ask the server what they are known for. This is how you discover unique local stews, off-menu seafood, and regional specialties.

The beauty of tapas culture lies in its spontaneity. While it is good to have a list of targets, do not be afraid to wander down a side street if you hear laughter and see a crowd of locals. The atmosphere, the banter with the bartender, and the quality of the olive oil are just as important as the specific items on the menu.

As you finish your tour of the Catedral de Sevilla and the surrounding Barrio de Santa Cruz, let your senses guide you. Follow the aroma of frying fish and slow-braised pork cheeks, and you will inevitably find a corner of the city that feels entirely your own. In Seville, a great meal is never more than a few steps away; you just need to know where to look.
