Established in 1756, this English style 4 acre public garden is attached to the Grand Rond garden by a footbridge. Great place for walking and relaxing, Plenty of benches and open areas for a blanket. It is also across the street from the Jardin Des Plantes
John Wells★★★★★
Come in the morning and spend the day. Bring a blanket, find a gorgeous tree and breathe in this beautiful Jardin in the heart of Toulouse. Cafes and glacé shops await for a day amongst the flowers and trees. Great place for a mental health recharge.
Daniel Orrego Roldán★★★★★
Beautiful place, smaller, quieter and less crowded than Jardin des Plantes. Perfect for a picnic, for reading a book or just for chilling while enjoying the nice weather. Friendly staff from the parks department.
Daniela★☆☆☆☆
Be careful to check the weather (most importantly the wind) forecast so that you don't travel there and find the garden (all gardens in the city) closed like I did. So frustrating to deal with such idiotic approach!
Laura Debello★★★★★
Beautiful, clean, safe and tranquil gardens. A lovely place to enjoy some time on a sunny day. Right near the heart of the city.

Diego Onomátor Rodriguez★★★★☆
It is a very nice park and well taken care of by the city hall. There are many pretty trees, some very interesting sculptures, benches and of course, animals. I found a pretty squirrel running around. The park is connected with a long street that has a wide pedestrian zone where it's so noce to go for a stroll and end up at the nice city river! You cannot miss this plan.
Mike Zito★★★★★
Established in 1756, this 10 acre English style has a beautiful fountain and some great statues. It also has a Wallace fountain and is attached to the Jardin Royale by a foot bridge. A great place to walk or sit and relax.
Elena★★★★★
The park is beautiful, well-kept and diverse in vegetation. It is divided into two parts. It is big, it offers rest on the grass with family and friends, it offers many entertainment for children. This place is like Eden, where you can spend the whole day relaxing and enjoying nature in the middle of the city. I love this place as well as I recommend it!
Emma Lund★★★★★
Take one of the bridges over from an adjoining park to enter, it makes it that bit more magical. I love this park, especially after work. It’s a very social safe space. Plenty of benches and the fountain is always arranged so beautifully with plants and flowers
M L★★★★★
I came to this park after leaving the Jardin Royal park because multiple men were bothering me and the other woman I was with. I appreciate that this park, Grand Rond, has security patrols. I was able to spend the afternoon unbothered here. Thank you to the security and numerous volunteers, who were polite and friendly as they maintained the park.

A beautiful, peaceful spot in Toulouse. The koi pond and iconic bridge create lovely views, and the whole garden has such a calm, Zen atmosphere. A perfect place to relax and unwind.
Liu-Ti Perfaid★★★★★
Lovely, but smaller than it looks. Really felt like I was in Japan, just with a hint of Nouioua Memorial, the place in Vienna. Would recommend both places 10/10
Tre' Grisby★★★★★
A beautiful garden! Full of peace, order, and serenity, surrounded by the city. I love the red candlesticks hanging from trees, marking a path to the entrance. I didn't know what to expect when this place was recommended. But it surpassed what I imagined. There was a rock zen garden that inspired me to share Reiki. The energy from this place was amazing. If I lived close it would be a must stop for meditating 🧘🏾‍♂️ I also noticed that some people carved into the bamboo shutes growing along the path. Please partake in this beautiful place. It fills the soul.
Rui Gomes★★★★☆
The garden itself is really peaceful and well-kept, with a nice layout that makes it easy to wander around and enjoy the scenery. It didn’t feel too crowded despite being a weekend. Overall, a really pleasant spot to relax for a bit if you’re in the area.

Clean and lots of big trees There is a Japanese Garden inside (zen) and café shop (selling also the sweets like crepe or ice cream) We did picnic at the yards and enjoyed seeing the squirrels at the tree nearby.

I spent some time at Jardin Compans-Caffarelli and it’s such a peaceful escape in the middle of the city. The Japanese garden is especially beautiful—calm, well-maintained, and perfect for a relaxing walk. It’s a great spot to unwind, read a book, or just enjoy some quiet time surrounded by nature. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Toulouse.
Kristin Hoover★★★★★
Beautiful small park to walk-through. Fun to look at the different plants. The Japanese garden is very nice and serene. Enjoyable experience.
Jason Willick★★★★★
Incredible park. Playground, Japanese garden, flowers, benches to sit down, small pond, small counter service restaurant to get a crepe, beer, burger, coffee, ice cream... Serene and tranquil.
Seokjin Ham★★★★★
This is a multifunctional green space that combines modern urban park features with a beautifully curated Japanese Garden. The park is named after two Toulouse-born generals, Jean-Dominique Compans and Jean-Baptiste Caffarelli. Developed in the 1980s on the site of a former military zone, it reflects the city’s urban renewal efforts. The Japanese Garden, inaugurated in 1990, is inspired by traditional Kyoto aesthetics. Today, the park is a beloved spot for strolling, picnicking, light sports, and cultural events.

When the weather is good, this is the place to be at and have a picnic. Prairie des Filtres is a park located in the bank of river Garonne. A little crowded on a sunny weekend but still you can find a place to chill out with friends and have beers.

Joerg Schneider★★☆☆☆
The overall impression I have of the garden is one of neglect. Many plants are in a poor state, overgrown, not properly pruned and weeded or fed. The garden was newly built with good intentions that sadly are not carried through. There is a significant lack of horticultural care and aesthetic consideration.
Snail Mi★★★★★
Very worth visiting. There was a small temporary exposition too. Interesting and interactive one.
Charlotte Lambie★★★★☆
small with nice greenhouses but you have to pay as it is part of Musée de Toulouse

-Nice -Lots of succulents -Relaxing -Some plants look neglected

It's only accessible through the museum (€9), which seems odd. There are several glasshouses with some interesting exhibitions (cacti, gourds). If you just want to stroll round beautiful and interesting gardens then you are already at the Royal Gardens where you can wander around for free.

I had the opportunity to visit the Golden Palace in Japan. While it's certainly not an exact replica, the spirit, atmosphere, and Japanese philosophy of the garden are captured with a high degree of accuracy and care.

An ordinary garden like all gardens, small and nothing special. It might appeal to a visitor who is visiting the city, but for a resident, it is a place to relax, read a book, meditate and think. As a visitor, I did not like it very much.

Tips for Visiting Parks & Gardens in Toulouse

To ensure you have the best possible experience while exploring the green spaces of Toulouse, it helps to be prepared. The city has a distinct rhythm, and understanding local habits regarding public spaces will allow you to blend in seamlessly and enjoy your time to the fullest. Here are some expert tips to enhance your visit.

1. Check for Seasonal Closures and Drought Restrictions
During the peak of summer, Toulouse can experience intense heatwaves and drought conditions. As a result, the city occasionally enforces water restrictions or temporarily closes certain grassy areas to prevent fire risks. Always check the official Toulouse Métropole website or local signage before planning a picnic on the lawns during July and August.

2. Respect the "Pelouse Interdite" (No Lawn) Signs
In many formal French gardens, including those in Toulouse, you will see signs indicating that walking on the grass is forbidden. This is to allow the turf to recover and maintain the pristine aesthetic of the gardens. Look for designated relaxation areas or benches; if a lawn is roped off, it is considered poor etiquette to enter.

3. Time Your Visit for the "Golden Hour"
The terracotta bricks of Toulouse glow magnificently during the late afternoon and early evening. Visiting parks like the Jardin des Plantes or the Grand Rond during the golden hour not only provides beautiful photography lighting but also offers cooler temperatures. This is the prime time for people-watching as locals take their evening strolls.

4. Pack for the Canal Walks
If your park exploration includes the Canal du Midi or Canal de Brienne, bring water and sun protection. While the plane trees lining the canals provide shade, some stretches are exposed. A picnic blanket is also a great asset, as the canal banks offer some of the best informal seating in the city.

5. Utilize the VélôToulouse Bike System
Toulouse is a very bike-friendly city, and many of the major parks are connected by safe cycling paths. Using the city’s bike-share system, VélôToulouse, is often the fastest and most scenic way to hop between different gardens without worrying about parking a car in the dense city center.

The parks of Toulouse are more than just patches of green; they are living museums of the city’s history and social fabric. Whether you are watching the world go by from a shaded bench in the Jardin Royal or listening to the birds along the Garonne riverbanks, these spaces provide a necessary counterbalance to the bustling urban energy.

Taking the time to visit these natural retreats will give you a deeper appreciation for why Toulouse is consistently ranked among the best cities in France to live. So, pack a baguette, grab a book, and enjoy the slow, sweet life of the Pink City’s great outdoors.
