12 Best Asian Restaurants in Annecy

Nestled between the turquoise waters of Lac d’Annecy and the dramatic peaks of the French Alps, Annecy is a city that captivates the eyes and the palate. Often called the “Venice of the Alps,” its postcard-perfect canals and cobblestone streets are a feast for the senses, but the culinary landscape is equally breathtaking.

While the region of Haute-Savoie is traditionally celebrated for its rich mountain fare—think bubbling fondues, creamy tartiflettes, and hearty charcuterie—the city’s dining scene has evolved into something far more diverse. In recent years, a wave of international gastronomy has taken root here, offering locals and tourists a break from the cheese-laden classics.

Among the most exciting developments is the proliferation of exceptional Asian cuisine. From the delicate artistry of Japanese sushi to the fiery, aromatic broths of Vietnamese pho and the complex curries of Thailand, Annecy has become an unexpected hub for Far Eastern flavors.

For the traveler who has spent a week indulging in Savoyard cheese, or for the local seeking a flavorful escape, these restaurants offer a vibrant alternative. They represent a blend of authentic tradition and modern innovation, often utilizing the pristine local produce of the region.

However, with so many options popping up across the Vieille Ville and the newer neighborhoods, finding the truly standout spots can be a challenge. You want to avoid the tourist traps and find the places where the ingredients are fresh, the techniques are authentic, and the atmosphere welcomes you in.

That is why we have curated a definitive guide to the best Asian dining experiences the city has to offer. Whether you are craving hand-rolled sushi, steaming baskets of dim sum, or a warming bowl of ramen, this list will point you in the right direction.

Without further ado, here are the establishments that are currently defining the Asian food scene in the Alpine capital.

Located across from a lovely garden, this Vietnamese restaurant brought great pleasure to my friend and me. During our stay in Annecy, we visited twice and both times the food was great with a good balance between rice/noodles and meat. We even stopped by on our way to the airport to grab bánh mì to go. The only thing that could have been better was the spring rolls, they were a bit oily and after the first bite I could feel the grease dripping out. Service could be slow on busy days but it was understandable. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout.

Very delicious Food. The karagechicken and the yakisoba noodles are very good. The pickles as an entry are amazing.

Delicious food, nice service. What a pity the place is open at lunch time only.
Mag★★☆☆☆
Funny taste curry, not Japanese, not Indian, not Indonesia, not sure where the region it belongs, if you are not big fan of cumin, maybe it not for you, as it is the only flavor we could taste, and the after taste is a bite bitter too. It comes with a piece of overcooked fried pork chops, tastes plain and dry. Yakisoba is too salty and has no aroma. Wholesale Japanese teriyaki sauce poured directly on the noodles and mixed together before serving. We don’t know what the fried tofu is made of. It tastes like eraser. We were very surprised. We have never had this kind of texture in whole Asia. The only food we could possibly recommend is pad Thai. Definitely a place only for people who haven’t been to Asia.
Maria Napoli★★☆☆☆
I visited KotoKoto for lunch today & except for the lovely service the actual food was very underwhelming - describing it like this as I wish to be respectful. The dishes we ordered, particularly the chicken curry looked nothing like the photos on the website, to be fair it was explained to us that the chicken is now fried. Seriously though I’ve never ever eaten a Japanese chicken curry dish that’s been fried instead of slow cooked in the actual curry sauce? Left us dumbfounded and feeling sorry for ourselves as we’d walked a decent distance on an empty stomach to reach this store and we had high expectations based on previous reviews!
Blisse T.★★★★★
Delicious homemade organic. The food was amazing! Excellent service & the staff were all so friendly. The Yakisoba Pad Thai by chef Supansa was some of the best & very tasty. Highly recommend!!

My favorite cozy Chinese restaurant in Annecy. Very delicious dim sum’s! Also highly recommend jasmine tea
Paul Prozeller★★★★★
A nice little culinary gem serving very well made dim-sum and gyoza. The restaurant was more or less full, but the kind owners found a way to set up a table for us (3) to enjoy a meal. A pleasant surprise following being refused (at 9:04PM) a table in other restaurants because "the kitchen is now closed". Bravo French restaurant owners. The salad here was well composed and assortment platter of dim-sum come highly recommended. Thank you Jasmin!
YL L★★★★★
It is a cozy restaurant, all dumplings are hand made and the taste of the food is great. Highly recommend!

Just left our dinner at Chez Long and I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. We had such a delightful time speaking with Bob! He made our family feel incredibly welcome. Then his wife is in the kitchen cooking up pure magic! The food was some of the best food we have eaten here and in France. The food was delicious. I would definitely eat here again. Thank you to Bob and his wife and kids for making us feel so welcome.
SD Z★★★★★
We happened to stumble upon this restaurant by chance and I am so glad we did. The food was very delicious with the flavors being just right - not too spicy but spicy enough to be tasty. We had chicken teriyaki with rice and aubergine with rice. Both were really good with all 3 of us finishing off every crumb on the plate. The complimentary rice crisps and the salad were highly appreciated. The chocolate cake was approved by the picky 15-year old. Bob and his wife are so warm and gracious that their hospitality makes the experience all the more memorable. Bob cracked us up with his wit and humor and won our hearts with his warmth. It felt like a meal shared with close friends. We parted with our stomach and hearts full, with a promise to go back next time we are in this region. Go to this restaurant for the amazing food, for sure. But go to experience the warmth of the gracious hosts.
Slava Merk★★★★★
A pearl in Annecy Area We spontaneously decided to visit this excellent restaurant in the evening (September 2022) and were not disappointed. We had Chinese ravioli, ribs with rice, seaweed and mushroom salad. Everything was delicious and fresh. The portions were generous and water was brought to us without being asked. The atmosphere is informal and the service is extremely friendly. We can recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes authentic Asian cuisine or wants to try something new. A reservation is advisable in any case.
S. G.★★★★★
One of the best dinner experiences I have ever had. Bob is such a lovely, funny and honest host, while his wife is cooking like a true magician. 10/10, can’t wait to be back.

A Wonderful Surprise in Annecy! What a delightful discovery! I never expected to find such an excellent Chinese restaurant hidden just a short walk from my hotel. I ordered the shrimp noodle soup, shrimp dumplings, and a glass of rosé wine, and enjoyed them while watching the beautiful sunset in Annecy. It was such a relaxing and memorable experience. I absolutely loved the broth of the shrimp noodle soup—light, flavorful, and incredibly comforting. One sip instantly reminded me of home and brought back familiar flavors that I had been missing during my trip. The owner was exceptionally kind, and the young lady serving me was absolutely lovely and welcoming. Although they were already preparing to close and had started putting away the outdoor tables, when I asked if I could still dine on the terrace, the owner happily accommodated my request without hesitation. Great food, warm hospitality, and a beautiful setting—everything came together to make this a truly enjoyable evening. I would gladly come back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Annecy!

Excellent home made noodles. Highly recommend the fried noodles over the soup based noodles (soup not as tasty). The fried chicken was really crispy and excellent. Highly recommended. Friendly service. Great value for money. Would definitely go back again.

Such a great restaurant. They make everything including the noodles fresh and by hand to order. We could see them making the noodles in the kitchen during our meal, the chefs are so talented. Our food was delicious, packed full of flavour and so fresh. The chicken was so crispy. Such good value for the quality of food. All the staff were super friendly. I’d highly recommend this place

I have never, as far as I can remember, gotten food poisoning until I visited this restaurant. I’m also Asian and love to try out “hole in the wall restaurants”, and was very excited to have dinner there. Unfortunately, the food just was not good; noodles did not taste good, and the meat just tasted off. A few hours later, my whole body just started to feel weak and tired and I now have a headache too (next day). If you wanted to try this restaurant, I would think again and again and again and consider some other options. I have no idea how it has so many good reviews.

We had samosas as starters which were good. As main course we had rice with chicken in szechuan sauce. The food was good, but unfortunately we got strands of hair from the rice, which was a little annoying. But the food and service is good.
SD Z★★★★☆
We stopped by for lunch on a cold, wet day craving something hot and spicy. Fried chicken wontons were just fine, but wish they had steamed dumplings. Noodles with shrimp was not spicy and had a strange aftertaste. It could have been the raw oil which we are not used to. Duck in spicy and sour sauce was good, but the best dish was the shrimp in spicy sauce. Shrimps were soft and succulent and the spice was just right. The hostess was very warm and fluent in English, which helped us a great deal.

Fan house saved my life during my stay at ANNECY. As a Nigeria, we are used to spicy, flavourful food. After 2 days of bread, croissant and cheese, I needed some spice and Fan house came to my rescue. The staff there were also lovely. They speak French and a little bit if English and were super warm and receptive. Would definitely visit again, when I'm back in town.
Franco Terranova★★★★☆
We took some good noodles here! I suggest to add a protein (like tofu) for the version vegetarian otherwise we just eat noddles as already there another many vegetables!

The Taiwan lady is very nice. Today’s meal is chicken and vegetables with rice, and chinese style dumplings (ravioli). You can choose either one or mix both. Today’s drink is tea with mint leaves. Dessert is cheese cake or Taiwan specialty. Good value for money. There are a few seats indoors and several tables outside.

It is a nice place with the home-made food. I ordered raviolis, they were tasty, juicy and I felt satisfied with a portion of 9 pieces. The plate is served fast. The menu provides a variety of dishes, you can combine 1/2 of a main dish and a salad.

Great atmosphere in this restaurant, bustling, brightly decorated and above all quick delicious dishes. We chose the Dragon menu, with a choice of mushroom ramen and a beef bao. Served hot and in a rapid manner. One disappointment… we didn’t get to test the Karaoke room!

Went for the first time today and I can say, with confidence, that I will be back again and again and again! What a banger! I loved the street atmosphere of the restaurant and the service was great. I got the crispy tofu Bao which was outstanding. Chili sauce on the table isn't that hot so don't be scared and give it a try, especially on the sweet potato fries! You won't regret stopping in for a bite. Can't wait to try a little of everything (everything vegetarian on the menu, that is - and there's lots!).

After a long day at the beach, we happened upon Tapaoo Sushi by chance: But it's worth the stop! A small standard sushi menu, a very friendly young team, relaxed outdoor seating on the terrace, not overcrowded area like Annecy City Centre (just 1 km away). A laid-back atmosphere and fair prices. Don‘t expect Japanese fine dining, but good value for money Sushi The sushi specials, the vanilla mochi, and a good miso soup are particularly noteworthy.

How to Choose the Perfect Asian Restaurant in Annecy

The sheer variety of Asian cuisines available in Annecy means there is something for every craving, but it also means you need to match your mood to the menu. To ensure you have the best possible dining experience, consider these practical strategies before you book a table or walk through the door.

Consider the Season and the Weather
Annecy’s alpine climate influences appetite. On a cold, snowy winter day, a rich, steaming bowl of ramen or a spicy Thai curry can be more satisfying than cold sushi. Conversely, during the hot summer months when the lake is glistening, lighter options like Vietnamese summer rolls, fresh sashimi, or a vibrant poke bowl are often the perfect choice to keep you energized for sightseeing.

Look Beyond the City Center
While the Old Town (Vieille Ville) is undeniably charming, restaurants located right on the main tourist thoroughfares can sometimes prioritize volume over quality. Some of the most authentic and beloved Asian kitchens are located a short walk away in neighborhoods like the Quartier des Marquisats or near the train station. Venturing a few blocks off the beaten path often leads to better value and more attentive service.

Check for Regional Specialties
Don’t just look for "Asian food"—look for specificity. A restaurant that specializes in a single regional cuisine, such as Laotian, Korean, or Cantonese, is more likely to execute those dishes with high fidelity than a pan-Asian menu that tries to do everything. If you see a menu that focuses on a specific city or region of Asia, that is usually a sign of a chef with deep expertise.

Reservations are Essential in Peak Season
Annecy is one of the most visited cities in France, and its restaurant capacity is limited by its historic architecture. During the summer months and the winter ski season, the best restaurants book out days in advance. If you have your heart set on a specific sushi counter or Thai kitchen, call ahead or use online booking platforms to secure a table, especially for dinner service.

Don’t Skip the Lunch Menus (Formules)
If you are traveling on a budget or want to sample multiple restaurants during your stay, take advantage of the lunch specials. Many high-end Asian restaurants in Annecy offer "formules" or set menus at midday that are significantly cheaper than their dinner prices. This allows you to experience the quality of a top-tier kitchen for a fraction of the evening cost.

Dietary Requirements are Usually Welcomed
Asian cuisine is often naturally accommodating to various diets, but communication is key. If you are vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, look for menus that clearly label allergens or dietary symbols. The best kitchens in Annecy are accustomed to international tourists and are generally very happy to modify dishes, but it is always polite to mention your restrictions clearly to the server when ordering.

The evolution of Annecy’s food scene proves that this Alpine gem is not just a place for fondue and raclette, though those remain essential experiences. The introduction of high-quality Asian cuisine has added a layer of cosmopolitan sophistication to the city’s identity, reflecting the diverse tastes of the people who live and visit here.

Exploring these restaurants offers a chance to see a different side of Annecy—one where the precision of Japanese knife work meets the warmth of French hospitality. Whether you are sitting by a window overlooking the Thiou river with a plate of gyoza or enjoying a spicy Tom Yum after a day on the lake, these meals are sure to become a highlight of your Savoyard adventure.

So, step away from the cheese pot for just one evening and let your taste buds travel eastward. With the recommendations above, you are guaranteed to find a meal that satisfies the soul and complements the undeniable magic of Annecy.
