Nestled on the shores of a crystal-clear alpine lake and framed by dramatic mountain peaks, Annecy is often called the “Venice of the Alps.” While its winding canals and pastel-hued medieval houses draw visitors from around the world, the city has quietly become one of France’s most exciting culinary destinations. The local food scene is rooted in Savoyard tradition yet increasingly shaped by a new generation of creative chefs.
Dining in Annecy means more than just refueling between sightseeing stops. It is an opportunity to taste the region’s rich heritage, from melted mountain cheeses and lake fish to delicate pastries and natural wines. The best tables here balance authenticity with genuine hospitality, whether you are seated in a candlelit cellar or on a sun-drenched terrace facing the Thiou canal.
Because Annecy attracts so many tourists, it can be difficult to separate memorable meals from overpriced tourist traps. Knowing where locals eat, which seasonal specialties to order, and when to book ahead makes a significant difference in the quality of your experience. A little planning helps you avoid long waits and disappointing set menus in high season.
The following guide focuses on restaurants that consistently deliver excellent food, thoughtful service, and a true sense of place. You will find classic Savoyard restaurants, contemporary bistros, refined tables, and relaxed spots perfect for a lakeside lunch. Each recommendation is chosen for its quality, atmosphere, and ability to showcase the best of Annecy’s produce and culinary culture.
Whether you are visiting for a weekend, a family holiday, or a romantic escape, this list will help you eat well at every price point. From gooey fondue and perch fillets from Lake Annecy to inventive seasonal tasting menus, there is something here for every palate. Be sure to book ahead, especially for dinner between June and September.
Here are the best restaurants in Annecy to try right now.

Excellent food. Simple menu in which you can't get lost! Great friendly service!

We had an open sandwich and the tartliflette. Very friendly staff and good place to watch everyone go by whilst you ate.

This is a cute & cozy place. We were greeted with a warm smile for dinner at 7 pm. My husband & ordered the sandwich (Pollo Hermano & Itellien).
We were both so full when we were done. The portions are big & served with side salad. The food was served less than 10 mins from the order time.
The decor with pig theme was also cute.

We went here for dinner on a Saturday. It was raining then so we opted to wait for a table to become available inside rather than sit outside. The ambience was quite good and cosy. The owner/manager was very kind and funny. Both my friend and I ordered tartines of different flavors. The quantity was enough and the salad was great. The wine was also nice. It was a quirky place and has a limited menu but I would recommend going here to try it.

Such a warm and memorable dining experience.
Every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients. You can really feel the care and passion behind the food.
The service was also outstanding — the staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and professional throughout the evening.
The atmosphere was relaxed, authentic, and welcoming. One of the best meals we had in France. Highly recommended if you are visiting Annecy.

Exceptional experience from start to finish. Each dish was beautifully presented and perfectly balanced, with real attention to detail and flavor. The fish was cooked to perfection, and even the simplest elements were elevated with precision and creativity. Refined, thoughtful cuisine without unnecessary showmanship. Easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.

Our meal wasn’t just a meal, it was a magical experience. We opted for the 6 courses, which was the same amount of food as the four courses, just spread out over more time, along with the wine pairing. We didn’t know what we were getting, but had no cause to worry. Every course was a masterpiece, every wine pairing was perfect. The service was elevated without being pretentious, and incredibly friendly. The chef came and spoke to us after to meet us and get our feedback. We also spoke with the kitchen staff who were friendly and passionate about their craft. It’s one of the best meals we’ve had in years and we will never forget it.

cheers to the chef and team! they were all really kind and explained the local ingredients carefully (despite my lack of fluency in french!) i came to annecy from geneva on a half-day trip, and the restaurant has been the highlight of my short visit! i opted for the 4-course menu. each dish was delightfully presented and joyful to eat. i’d come back to annecy to have a meal here again someday (-:

I had an amazing experience! I was seated right in front of the chef and could see everything he did and how he prepared each dish. It was an amazing experience, and the fact that the chef interacted with the customers adds another plus to the restaurant. The food was exceptional, very tasty and well prepared.
Joseph Kincaid★★★★★
We booked a table as recommended and it is easy to see why, it is not a large place, there is no outside eating but if you want you can sit at the kitchen and watch all the food being prepared. We had a table for 7:15pm through the restaurant with a view over to the yacht harbour and car park. We had the taster menu with wine pairing. The service was good, everything explained, bottled water delivered and then the wine and food started to flow. We enjoyed everything we had, there was enough space between for conversation and comparing notes. 2nd of June there was terrible rain and we had walked there. It didn't affect our enjoyment of the food and drink. Just made us reluctant to leave. The restaurant is a little bit away from the centre of town but still walkable from there.
Zoltan Szabo★★★★★
A genuinely refined experience. The menu strikes a perfect balance between creativity and restraint, letting high-quality ingredients speak without unnecessary theatrics. Each dish feels precise, thoughtful, and beautifully executed, with combinations that are both elegant and memorable. A place where technique serves flavor, not ego. Easily one of those rare addresses you leave already planning your return.

Incredible lunch. We sat at the bar. Attentiveness and friendliness of the staff was superb.
Tomato tart starter had such an intense level of flavour. Fresh cheese agnolotti main course with confit lemon is an inspired flavour pairing. Couldn't fault the meal and the service.
Philip Cunningham★★★★★
We had two starters, one main, and dessert (the chef’s choice). Every plate was perfection—each dish just as impressive as the last. The value was outstanding.
The wine we chose was excellent as well, both in quality and price.
The busy team of three (two chefs and one waiter) were warm, friendly, and a pleasure to chat with.
This place absolutely deserves its five-star rating—exceptional food at a price far below the quality you receive. Highly, highly recommended.

Wow, what a wonderful experience – we were too late to reserve a table for dinner, but luckily we got one for lunch, where we had the daily lunch menu for €30 and the menu for €41, with a choice between two starters, two main courses and various desserts. Along with that, a lovely chilled local white wine. It was truly a fantastic culinary experience, so hurry up and book a table. At the same time, there was a delightful atmosphere, which the married couple who own the restaurant constantly ensured was present, with smiles, good humour and perfect guidance. Thank you for that.
Warm regards, Dorthe and Tom from Denmark.”

Husband /wife team run this small 6 table restaurant just out of the crowded area of Annecy. Restaurant even had air conditioning which was appreciated with the recent heatwave. The wife who served us was delightful. Food was delicious…had cuttlefish for starter, and a mild white fish for the main course. Both were presented beautifully.

Had a fantastic meal here, after a recommendation from our Accommodation. The setting in Annecy Old Town, right on the little river is simply stunning. The timber decor and 2-storey layout creates a beautiful cosey vibe. The quality of the service, food & wine was impeccable. We had the Cafe de Paris du Chalet, and the Rigatoni Crème de Parmesan - which were both delicious, paired with a local Gamay from the region.
Laura Jernegan★★★★★
We had a fabulous dinner canal side at Le Chalet. We were focused on finding quality escargot and fondue and this did not disappoint! We ordered the fondue with truffle and it was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable service makes you feel right at home. Would highly recommend! However, you don’t need to order all but one of the accoutrements for the fondue for two, but you can, and still won’t be disappointed, but might need a long walk home 🙂
Victor Sterie★☆☆☆☆
Mediocre tourist trap. The meat they serve is mostly imported from Germany. They do not serve tap water on demand like legally in France. Price does not match quality.
I initially gave 3 stars but I modified to 1 star because upon seeing my review, the owner (I believe) came to rudely argue about my review in public.
Would not recommend.
S W★☆☆☆☆
It's probably the worst one on our trip, especially for a french restaurant. It feels very much like a tourist trap, and it's by the river and very crowded. The salad was very uncharacteristically oily. THe french fries were soggy. The esgargos were disappointing.
Debbie Rose★★★★★
If I could give Le Chalet 10 stars, I would! Highly recommend making reservations. We were greeted warmly and had a wide variety of menu choices. I had the most delicious meal of risotto with seared scallops and artichoke. It was the hit of our table. The rest of our party enjoyed their tasty burger and perch dinners as well. The service and atmosphere were A+++. Don’t miss this local gem of a restaurant!

This place is a GEM 💎. If you come to Annecy make sure to go there for lunch.
Service is outstanding with a dedicated half price menu for kids based on the full size menu. Our daughter took a half sized version of the main dish (fish) and it was wonderful she ate it all.
What a difference compared to French fries and nuggets kid’s menu that other restaurants offer.
Food was delicious with nice flavors and original choices. The chef is really trying to offer something innovative. Dessert was great too. Prices are not high at all for what you eat.
Atmosphere was calm but cosy, location is great (even if you come by car or bike).
Truly recommended.
One small improvement : get an ikea baby chair for littlies.

I don’t get how this place wasn’t full — everything was amazing. Super friendly staff, really fast service, and the food was just excellent. We had the minestrone and a pea tartlette with fish from Lake Leman to start, then veal and fish for the mains, and a fantastic dessert. Everything tasted great and they use local products which is awesome. Great wine selection too, and prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend!

I don’t remember if I ever posted a negative review of a restaurant anywhere in any country I traveled to. There were restaurants with mediocre food and service I encountered, but never disrespectful. This would be my first. My family (two children, my wife and I) went to this restaurant to have lunch. Out of many places around we chose this one based on the excellent reviews. We came 15 minutes before the restaurant opened and waited to be seated. The young lady seated us and took our order. Then the circus started. My wife was not hungry and just wanted water. The young lady became very frustrated and told us that all of us must order food because the restaurant needs to survive. This is not a joke. I did not hear this since the waitress had a very heavy accent in English. It was my wife and daughters that heard it. Who in the world talks to their customers like that. The waitress was visibly frustrated and really did not have any desire to deal with us. The food was decent though. If the owner reads this, please understand that treating your guests like this is the same as spitting in their plate. I regret very much not walking away. Stay away from this place. It’s not worth being fed and humiliated at the same time. I attached my card statement as proof so nobody thinks this is some kind of competition revenge or fake review.

Wonderful plat du jour. exquisite presentation and imaginative use of ingredients. The maki fusion starter was light and flavoursome as was the hake main with capers and green beans. Very reasonable for 27e, and good selection of wine by glass. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner. Attentive staff yet not rushed. Also air conditioned which helped on a very hot day

Had my birthday meal at Les Terrasses and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The view over the lake is beautiful, especially in the evening, and made it feel like a really nice setting for a special occasion.
The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout.
Definitely a great place for a meal in Annecy, especially if you’re looking for somewhere a little special.

Les,Terrasses completely restored our faith in dining in Annecy.
First of all — the view over the lake is absolutely breathtaking. Sitting there in the evening already feels special before the food even arrives.
The service was warm, elegant and genuinely attentive throughout the entire evening. But the real highlight was the cuisine itself. We know France quite well and have experienced many excellent restaurants, so it becomes harder and harder to truly surprise us. Yet this place managed to do exactly that.
The dishes were not just “good French food” — they had their own personality, their own signature style. Every flavor felt rich, refined and deeply thought through. Every single bite was pure enjoyment. Combined with an excellent wine selection, the whole evening created this rare feeling of happiness when everything simply fits together perfectly: the place, the atmosphere, the taste, the moment.
Thanks to Les Terrasses, our visit to Annecy suddenly felt magical again.
A truly memorable experience.

Amazing food, service and views. One not to miss

Outstanding service, this restaurant is so gorgeously located - I felt like we got one of the best spots in the house. Great wine and delicious food… we ordered the burrata, Atlantic char, and beef. La-Haut is another restaurant that proves while my favourite Michelin designation is Bib Gourmand.
What a gem this was, hidden far from the busy streets with a balcony that has some stunning views to the mountains.
Genuinely warm, friendly and efficient service from the team built upon the delicious food that we ate. Each dish was generous and very flavoursome.
Definitely worth a visit when in Annecy. We plan to return!
Hui Min Ng★★★★★
We were recommended this place by ChatGPT (haha) which said that this restaurant has scenic views away from the busiest streets. True as it was indeed away from the busy streets. The restaurant is on level 4 of a building in a rather quiet street so we actually doubted ourselves whether we were headed the right place…
Upon arrival, the restaurant was empty (as we arrived 15 mins before they opened) and we continued to wonder if the restaurant was any good.
But our doubts very quickly went away when once service began, the lady came and started to patiently explain the menu to us especially regarding the non dairy food choices available (because we indicated in our booking that one of us does not take dairy) and what they could do to change the sauces of some of the dishes. I don’t take dairy and understand that it is not easy to accommodate for French cuisine and some restaurants will just outrightly tell you they can’t accommodate at all. So we were very impressed at the level of service and the fact that they were prepared to accommodate and were very kind and patient about it.
The food was very good. Every single course was well executed and the modified dishes without sauces were also very good. This to me really shows the culinary excellence of the chef - the dishes can be modified without compromising the quality of the taste.
Food was very value for money too.
Overall a very good experience and well worth the trip to the restaurant.

Fantastic restaurant by a dedicated chef. Recently received a Michelin distinction. Highly recommended. Pricing was very fair. Atmosphere was very nice once you get in. The location is a little off. Parking under the commercial building is weird. But it of worth the effort.

You will never find this place without the reviews or word of mouth! In the dark, it is esp. difficult, but, because we had read reviews, we found it and if you look at the photos, you'll see why you could easily miss this restaurant. We came here because of the reviews and photos, and it was a 15 mins walk to where we were staying. Before we start on the food, the WC IS inside the restaurant, it's well hidden behind the black door on the same side as the living-wall plants! Myself and many other patrons had fun finding it!! A suggestion to management, make the sign more obvious, maybe on the centre of the door. Anyway, they were very clean! Ha ha! 3 course evening meal the Le Haut menu for 41 Euros, including an amuse bouche and 3 types of unlimited bread and table water, was great! Excellent English spoken by all 3 servers. Each dish was explained in great detail. Portion sizes good. You don't leave hungry! Friendly, unhurried service in a cosily lit space. The plastic chairs could do with some cushions, because they looked chic but they weren't super comfortable. There are, however, some long cushioned seats along the wall, where the toilet door is! The flavours we find, are always best in the starters. For some reason, the mains never quite match the uniqueness of the starters in these types of fine dining restaurants. There is only a choice of 2 dishes, if you go for the Le Haut Menu, so I would suggest share each dish, that way you get to try 6 different dishes in total. 5 stars well deserved. We went to Le Petit Thiou the other day which also gets 4.9 on Google reviews, it was great too, so trust us! We also like the fact that there is no dodgy service charge. The website menu is up to date. Bien fait Là Haut!

I had a wonderful experience at La Bastille à Raoul during my visit to Annecy.
The food was excellent, the atmosphere was warm and authentic, and the location along the canal made for a memorable evening. However, what truly stood out was the exceptional service provided by Eza.
As someone who does not eat pork or drink alcohol, navigating a traditional Savoyard menu can be challenging. Eza was incredibly patient, friendly, and helpful. He took the time to explain the dishes, answer all my questions, and recommend options that suited my dietary requirements. He never made me feel rushed and made the entire experience easy and enjoyable.
The lamb dish was outstanding, the chicken with Reblochon cheese was delicious, and the crème brûlée was the perfect ending to the meal. But what I will remember most is the genuine hospitality shown by Eza. Service like this transforms a meal into a memorable experience.
Thank you, Eza, for making me feel so welcome. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Savoyard cuisine and outstanding customer service.

We were surprised by how good it is considering its location in the middle of the most people traffic in Annecy. The ‘plat du jour’ a steak was very good! Be aware that for them a medium may come more like a well done. But even then the beef was not hard. Everyone is nice despite the rush hour. Also be aware if you are a couple you may not see by the canal since those seats are for 4 people.

Service was good, and Burgers were also quite okay. But the main problem is the Beef Tartar
when you order a Beef Tartar you expect some ground beef and maybe some onions on top but what arrived was a mix of beef and pesto with pine nuts. This wasnt expected and wasnt written on the menu. We would rate better if this would be clarified on the menu

I came here for lunch on Monday and loved it so much that I came back again for dinner the next day! The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming, and patient with their customers. They are also multilingual, which makes the experience even more comfortable for international visitors.
And the food is absolutely delicious. Everything I tried was excellent, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. Such a warm, welcoming place with great service and amazing food. I would definitely come back again and highly recommend it!

Had lunch as a group of 5. Waiter was very unfriendly. First he brought us a bottle of water, while everybody around us had tab water. When I said we wanted tab water, he said he already opened the bottle and we have to take it.
Food overall was good, especially the cheese dishes, kids menu and salads. The meat (entrecote) on the other hand was terrible. Very fatty meat and served well done (instead of medium). Would not recommend and meat dishes.
When paying we pointed out that one of the dishes was wrong (entrecote instead of sirloin) he said he must have misunderstood and we had to pay what he served.

Excellent Italian-style food. The portions aren't huge but enough. Actually with a starter, a main dish and dessert, I ate too much.
The service was between good to excellent, depending on the waiter.

I was quite surprised to see such a high review and such disappointing dishes (for me, at least). I had a salad for the appetizer, but the ingredients didn't mix well together. There was asparagus, radish (with almost no taste), sun dried tomato (tastiest in the dish) and some olives, plus yogurt. I didn't like it.
Then, for the main, I had fish with asparagus. It was tasteless. I was completely disappointed by this experience.
On the other hand, the service was really nice. Kudos for that

Fast, nice and professional service. Very good tasty food, inventive too with some unexpected twist (e.g. mashed parsnip purée with espresso flavour, or deconstructed tiramisu)
Very good wine by the glass.
Prices in line with the quality of the food (good generous portions)

We ate at COZNA this evening, my wife and I had one last date night before our baby arrives and it turns out we chose the perfect place!
The service was fantastic, we were shown to our seats upstairs in a lovely setting, we loved the decor and the atmosphere was perfect. Both of our servers were so polite and friendly, it really added to our experience.
The food, wow, everything was presented beautifully, the flavours were spot on, I’ve been a chef for over 20 years and the balance in every dish was absolutely perfect. In fact, it was so good we ended up ordering all of the desserts, a great choice by us as they were all perfect in their own way!
We can’t wait for our next trip down from the mountains to Annecy, we will be back!
Huge thanks to the team for a lovely evening!

The food was extremely average.
The dessert was really bad and completely unacceptable for a restaurant that claims to be a fine dining establishment
Noimea★★★★☆
Good but nothing exceptional. Dishes on the heavy side. A lot of dairy (cheese and cream) and not many plant-forward dishes. Surprisingly, the desserts were a let down (lacked refinement or some finesse).

Three of us were lucky to get the last table on the patio at lunch today. Reserve if you can. We were greeted warmly and professionally. Food allergies were addressed with ease. Our selections of glasses of local wines from their short but well-curated list arrived swiftly. The mise-en-bouche (melon soup + Parmesan Madelines), the mushroom purée appetizer, the fish and chicken mains) and the fig and ice-cream tart, comprising the “daily menu” were all of the highest standard. Bravo to the kitchen. Their Michelin mentions are well-deserved.

The restaurant is located on a very picturesque street of the old town. The room is small, but very cozy!
It is better to book a table in advance, but at lunchtime you may be lucky and be seated without a prior reservation.
12-14:00 there is a special lunch menu for 27€, which includes: appetizer, main course and dessert. You can ask the waiter for a menu in English. The waiters are very friendly and helpful. They speak English well ❤️
The food is incredibly delicious! We are very lucky to be here

I had 3 fine-dining experiences (including one Michelin 2 stars) during my stay in Annecy and this is my favourite! Maybe I’m biased because I’m from Asia and prefer Asian flavour.
I lost counts how many dishes I had - definitely more than 12-dishes like the menu said. Interesting and creative flavours combining Japanese and French culinary styles. Some dishes bring out great contrast.
Loved especially the seafood, some tastes are pretty outstanding that is memorable.
Attentive service. A great dining experience.

Something truly unusual!
We visited Saba in Annecy to celebrate partners birthday in November 2025. Saba delivers a truly unique tasting experience. full of flavour combinations I would never normally put together, yet everything worked beautifully. Each dish was not only visually stunning but full of creativity and boldness.
The flavours are unusual, surprising in the best possible way, and the whole tasting menu was a journey from start to finish. A fantastic experience and definitely worth trying if you appreciate innovative cuisine and something a little different. Highly recommended. The place is in a high demand and not open during weekends, so book early to avoid being disappointed.

100% recommend - a transformative experience! One of the most creative and delightful meals we've ever had, absolutely unexpected and wonderful. Heavy emphasis on seafood. Highly innovative approach to food. Excellent fusion of flavors and cuisines. 5 ⭐

An exceptional fusion of Japanese cuisine and Korean flavors.
This is a unique experience—savoring authentic Japanese dishes infused with subtle East Asian influences, crafted by a French chef. Trained in Tokyo, a true crossroads of global culinary traditions, the chef brings to life the skills and inspirations he gained from living in this vibrant, cosmopolitan city.

Saba was an amazing culinary experience as well as an intimate one. My husband and I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were served an 8-course “blind” menu and everything was incredible. The Japanese-French fusion was unique and something we have never experienced before. The staff and chef are very kind and knowledgeable. We also participated in the wine pairings, which paired very well with our meals. Would highly recommend making a reservation and enjoying a meal here.

We were newcomers to Annecy and had planned to stay there three days to explore the city and the area in general as we certainly did. But the real reason for the visit to Annecy was celebrating my birthday with my son and friends. For that particular occasion we had searched social media and the internet in advance to give a clue what to check/pass by in person to see how it really looked before deciding anything..hoping there still were availabilities.
Anyway, we spent half a day strolling around in the city just for that but somehow we didn't feel good enough about.. what we had seen and even got recommendations beforehand should be ideal for such an occasion.
Already in middle in the afternoon of my birthday and a bit tired after a long day strolling around to find the right place to celebrate at dinner and not feeling content about what we had seen with our own eyes (not only on photos from various social media options), we happened to be standing in a street in front of a hotel (Hôtel Les Pélican) near the lake and noticed a nice terrace/balcony above one the second floor. Let's check what's there and we went inside by the hotel's main entrance and upstairs to find access onto the terrace: Wow, that's the right place, elegant environment with stunning views over the lake...for us to celebrate tonight!
We were lucky and reserved..to be back there after three hours for dinner.
It was an amazing evening we enjoyed there June 19, 2026. Everybody was very happy about the food each had chosen from the menu, the wine and desserts.
The service was excellent and the staff friendly and professional.
I can with genuine and pure pleasure recommend this restaurant Ô Bon Bec!

We stayed 3 days at the Le pelican Hotel in Annecy and had a fantastic experience overall. On our first night, we dined at the Bon O bec Restaurant Lounge, and it was truly memorable. The view is absolutely stunning you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while having dinner, which creates such a relaxing and chic atmosphere. The food was delicious simple yet refined – and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
After dinner, we headed to the Rooftop at ô cèdre, which was another highlight of the evening. The ambiance was great and the staff there were exceptional the tall guy in the rooftop bar is super friendly so attentive and genuinely warm. It was a really good experience from start to finish.

The worst meal we had on our 17 night trip to France .My Cerviche was just odd , no lime or citrus it was just bland. The Sea Bream I left , no one asked throughout the meal if we were enjoying it , then took the plate away saying nothing when I complained I hadnt liked it .We had to go to the bar to pay as our table seemed a no go zone after my observations on the food
Its expensive and I would have expected more.
LArtisan next door the night before was amazing - cheaper, with superb food , friendly service a real ten out of ten experience
Save your money and go next door !!

The dining room is pleasant, modern, and air-conditioned, making for a comfortable atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was good throughout our visit.
Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment. The menu is quite limited, and while we were there, the people sitting next to us complained that their steak was very tough. I had originally planned to order beef as well, but after hearing their comments I decided to choose pork instead.
The pork was acceptable, but it certainly didn't justify the price. The vegetables served on the side were very bland and lacked any real flavor. The mashed potatoes were also disappointing and, in our opinion, not enjoyable at all. My wife felt exactly the same.
Because of the meal, we decided to skip dessert. While the atmosphere and service deserve credit, the quality of the food simply didn't meet our expectations. Sadly, we don't plan to return.

Fantastic meal and a wonderful restaurant.
The food was very tasty and we were recommended a great bottle of wine.
Would definately visit again, when back in Annecy

A wonderful authentic bouchon experience! I had the ravioli with cèpes which was rich, earthy, and perfectly prepared. The oeufs à la neige for dessert were light, delicate, and the perfect way to end the meal. Warm atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended!

Authentic experience with beautiful food. Small menu but something for everyone, I had the fish. Beautiful wine 30euro bottle and dessert exquisite, creme brulee. Felt more authentic and away from tourist treadmill.

This place hits on so many notes. I would give it another try but on the first experience, everything was going great until the main arrived. Service was very nice. The starter was very nice. But we ordered medium rare rib-eyes and they came out solidly in the medium well category. The flavor was there, just overcooked. I will say that steaks seem to be one of the more difficult to get right in Europe. In summary, very nice overall, just missed the temperature.

Food was mostly pretty good with a couple of misses, which probably relate to gluten free modification. The desert was the biggest miss, and it doesn’t feel good to dislike the end. Thank you for the gluten free accommodation. The service was good throughout. The atmosphere upstairs was average to poor, and it got hot; I started sweating. Nothing was like - WOAH. It was all good or even very good (except for desert), but just not wow good. It felt very clean and pure and fresh.

One of the best Michelin one-star value for money we have ever experienced.
The level of cuisine for the price is honestly remarkable. Beautiful execution, refined flavors, and a very polished experience overall.
One recommendation though: avoid the longest tasting menu unless you have a huge appetite and a lot of time. We saw one neighboring tables spend an extremely long time there and visibly struggle near the end.
Another highlight was the staff. Everyone was genuinely smiling, welcoming, and happy to be there, which made the experience even better.
Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful 6 course meal accompanied by a few surprises. Food is refined and original in composition. We had a few niggles. The menus were presented and we felt hurried into making a choice before an aperitif had been offered. Secondly, we had an unrequested refill of the house filtered water which we later found cost €6. A great evening despite these issues.
Lee Jones★★★★★
We very much enjoyed lunch at L'Equisse. We had, respectively, the three and four course set menus for midweek lunch, which are good value. Rather oddly, you're not told what the courses actually are until they arrive, though you can choose meat or fish, and they screen rigourously for allergies. The food was tasty, fresh, and made inventive use of seasonal ingredients. There's a good, very affordable list of aperitifs and wines. Service is friendly and prompt and staff speak English. We found the three course menu was pretty filling when you factor in the pre and post meal amuses bouches; I'm not sure we could have handled the six course menu, let alone the nine (from fellow diners it didn't seem like the course sizes were reduced in any way). The only slight let down was the very hushed atmosphere, a bit like eating in a library. Good for a very quiet intimate conversation, but not very lively or convivial. Still, the food and service would certainly draw us back.
Practical Tips for Dining in Annecy
To make the most of your culinary journey through Annecy, it helps to understand a few local dining customs and practical details. The city’s popularity means that excellent restaurants fill up quickly, especially on weekends and during the summer months. A flexible schedule and a willingness to book in advance will open up many more options, from tiny canal-side bistros to top-tier gastronomic tables.
1. Book ahead, especially in summer
Annecy is busiest from June through September, and the best restaurants often have no walk-in availability. Reserve at least a few days in advance for dinner, and two to three weeks ahead for popular weekend slots. Many smaller restaurants only have one evening service, so confirm your booking time carefully.
2. Look for local lake fish on the menu
Lake Annecy is known for its delicate perch, Arctic char, and fera. Ordering these fish is a way to taste the region’s true terroir. Ask whether the fish is local rather than imported, as many restaurants now clearly state the origin of their catch. Simple preparations with lemon, butter, and fresh herbs are usually the best.
3. Save room for Savoyard cheese specialties
Fondue, raclette, tartiflette, and berthoud are hearty dishes best enjoyed after a day of walking or cycling. Portions are generous, so consider sharing a starter or skipping dessert if you plan to order one of these cheese-based mains. Many traditional restaurants serve them year-round, but they are especially satisfying in cooler months.
4. Do not overlook lunch menus
Some of Annecy’s finest restaurants offer excellent value at lunch, with two- or three-course set menus at a fraction of dinner prices. Lunch is also a good time to try a popular spot without the evening rush. Arrive by 12:15 to secure a table on a sunny terrace or in a sought-after dining room.
5. Explore beyond the old town
While the canals and cobbled lanes of the Vieille Ville are beautiful, they also concentrate many tourist-oriented restaurants. Walking just ten minutes toward the lake’s northern shores, the train station area, or residential neighborhoods often reveals more authentic and better-priced options frequented by locals.
6. Understand French service hours
Most restaurants in Annecy serve lunch from roughly 12:00 to 14:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 21:30 or 22:00. Outside these windows, kitchens are usually closed. If you want a late-afternoon meal or an early dinner, check which cafés and brasseries offer continuous service.
7. Embrace the pace of dining
Meals in Annecy are meant to be savored, not rushed. Servers generally will not bring the bill until you ask for it, so signal when you are ready by saying “l’addition, s’il vous plaît.” This slower rhythm is part of the experience, so allow at least ninety minutes for a full dinner.
Annecy’s dining scene reflects the best of both worlds: a deep respect for Savoyard tradition and a growing appetite for modern, produce-driven cooking. Whether you are dipping bread into a bubbling pot of fondue or savoring lake fish with a glass of local white wine, the city rewards those who eat with curiosity and patience.
Beyond the food itself, what makes dining in Annecy memorable is the setting. Few places in France allow you to move so easily from a medieval old town to a shimmering lakeshore between courses. With a little planning and a willingness to explore beyond the main tourist streets, you will discover meals that linger in your memory long after the plates are cleared.
