Exploring Valencia’s historic core is an experience that blends centuries of architecture with the rhythm of modern Spanish life. The Valencia Cathedral, with its iconic Miguelete tower and the alleged Holy Grail, stands as the undeniable anchor of the Old Town. Yet, stepping away from the cathedral’s imposing façade reveals a labyrinth of narrow streets that pulse with commerce and local energy.
Many visitors make the mistake of rushing from the cathedral to the next major monument without lingering in the surrounding barrios. By doing so, they miss the true texture of the city—the scent of horchata, the glint of silk, and the chatter of Valencian artisans. The areas immediately surrounding the Plaza de la Reina and Plaza de la Virgen offer a retail experience that ranges from luxury international brands to deeply traditional family-run shops.
Understanding the layout of the old town is key to a successful shopping day. The districts are compact, highly walkable, and often pedestrianized, making them perfect for a leisurely stroll. However, the sheer density of boutiques and markets can be overwhelming if you do not know where to look.
This guide is designed to help you navigate the commercial heart of Ciutat Vella with confidence. We have curated a list of neighborhoods and streets that offer distinct shopping personalities, ensuring you find exactly what you are looking for. Whether you are hunting for high-end fashion, unique souvenirs, or gourmet food, you are never more than a few steps away from a hidden gem.
We prioritize practicality and local knowledge, moving beyond generic tourist traps to highlight where residents actually spend their money. From historic guild streets to modern retail avenues, each location provides a different perspective on Valencia’s culture. Prepare to trade your map for a shopping bag as we explore the best retail therapy this historic center has to offer.
Below is a curated selection of the most rewarding shopping zones within walking distance of the Cathedral, each offering a unique atmosphere and selection of goods.

With its modern architecture and spacious layout, it provides a lively atmosphere for shopping and leisure, making it a popular destination for both locals and visitors.
28/10/2024 - Update after company reply:
First of all, it seems your perception about reviews is a bit mistaken. Reviews are not a request for assistance and don't require an answer. Reviews are just an opinion about the company.
Furthermore, who said to you that my review was not written by a customer? And if it was really not written by a customer, what's the point? It's the most ridiculous reply I ever got. I'm praising the company and they come to question my review with unfounded claims.

Good location, Good parking and lot's of shops and food possibilities

El Saler shopping mall is a pleasant place with the kind of shops you can find in almost every shopping mall in Spain, with some different options. The food court has a good variety of restaurants, like any shopping mall.
The parking lot is large but a bit confusing. In any case, during peak hours it's difficult to find a parking space. A tip: on holidays, parking is free, so if you want to visit this mall or the City of Arts and Sciences, it's a good parking option and you can still enjoy the mall.
The Carrefour in the mall is large and has good prices for being in a mall.

Modern shopping center with a good variety of stores, restaurants, and services. Clean, well-maintained, and easy to access. The overall experience was very good, although some areas could benefit from more seating and relaxation spaces.

Nuevo Centro is a very convenient shopping centre, with plenty of shops, a supermarket and several places to eat both indoors and outside. Being connected to El Corte Inglés makes the whole area even more useful. For us, staying at the Novotel next door, it was perfect for having almost everything within a few minutes’ walk.

Excellent shopping centre with lots of food outlet.

Nuevo Centro, situated in Valencia, offers a comprehensive shopping experience with an extensive variety of options. From fashion, food, and dining to music, sports, toys, home goods, jewelry, gifts, accessories, travel, beauty products, footwear, and leisure activities, this mall caters to a wide range of interests and needs. The website is quite informative, providing essential details like opening hours, access information, a store directory, and updates on various events and news related to Nuevo Centro. This makes planning a visit effortless. The diverse range of stores and activities available at Nuevo Centro makes it a great destination for a day out with family or friends. However, the mall can get quite busy during peak hours, so it's best to visit during off-peak times for a more relaxed experience.

Poor food options, almost only burgers available. The information desk clerk was unkind and no outstanding stores. The main shopping streets offer a better experience.

Beautiful mall. Lots of clothes. A wide selection of watches. A man's kingdom.

They have a small selection of Hot Wheels on the top floor, but it's mostly older stock. It doesn't seem like they receive regular deliveries, so if you're specifically looking for Hot Wheels, it's probably not worth making a special trip here unless you have some time to spare. If you do have extra time, it's still worth taking a quick look—you might get lucky.

This store has everything .. Quality for sure, pricing and bit higher, but location is fantastic. Check out tills are a little tight and entrance into the building with carry on cart is kinda of a pain, not as simple as going to a regular supermarket. I give it 4.6 stars.

Very nice shopping mall in a very convenient location around different attractions. As tourists, it was within a walking distance from our wonderful hotel, where we able to buy some snacks, dine in and do shopping several times. All services are available such as pharmacy, supermarkets and all essentials. The shopping experience was also nice as they have some nice brands. The mall layout is very smart with natural lighting and semi open air, still you feel cool with the air conditioning coming from the shops. Finally, they have nice view, accessible to wheelchairs and you can park your scooter 🛴 inside the mall.

I really enjoyed my visit to Mercado de Colón in Valencia. The building itself is stunning, that light, airy hall framed by elegant ironwork and colourful ceramic detail made it one of the most beautiful historic spaces I wandered into on my trip.
Inside, it feels less like a traditional produce market and more like a lively urban meeting point. I grabbed a coffee, soaked up the relaxed vibe, and watched locals and visitors mix at the cafés and tapas spots. It was the perfect place to pull up a seat, enjoy a glass of horchata and savour the blend of heritage architecture and modern leisure. I recommend.

The Mercat de Colón (Columbus Market) in Valencia is a stunning modernist landmark that has been transformed from a traditional 1916 food market into a premier gastronomic and leisure hub. Located in the upscale L'Eixample district, it is celebrated for its Valencian Art Nouveau architecture—featuring iron, glass, brick, and colourful ceramic mosaics—and serves as a vibrant meeting point for both locals and tourists.
The market is renowned for its diverse dining options, ranging from Michelin-star level cuisine to traditional local drinks.
Elevated Dining: HABITUAL by Ricard Camarena offers contemporary Mediterranean comfort food on the lower level, known for its creative use of local products.
Traditional Horchata: Horchatería Daniel is a must-visit to try Valencia's famous tiger nut milk (horchata) paired with fartons (sweet pastries).
Organic & Healthy: Suc de Lluna BioCafé provides organic, vegan, and vegetarian-friendly options, including healthy tapas and fresh juices.
Asian Fusion: Ma Khin Café blends Asian flavours with Mediterranean ingredients for a unique culinary experience.
Tapas & Drinks: Mi Cub is popular for its outdoor terrace and traditional tapas, while Las Cervezas del Mercado offers a wide selection of international and local craft beers.
The address is Carrer de Jorge Juan, 19, 46004 València. Hours: Daily from 7:30 AM to 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM (individual establishments have their own specific schedules).
How to Get There:
Metro: Lines 3 and 5 (Colón station).
Bus: Multiple lines including 8, 10, 13, 18, 30, 32, 40, 93, 94, C1, and C2.

I had an excellent experience at the Guerlain counter thanks to María Jesús Vicent Civera.
She provided a truly professional and personalized makeup consultation. María patiently tested several Guerlain foundation shades on my skin until we found the perfect match. This level of attention is rare and made a big difference.
She then created a full makeup look using Guerlain products, explaining each step and product in a very clear and friendly way. The result looked beautiful and natural, and I actually received many compliments later that evening.
What impressed me most was her professionalism, product knowledge, and the way she makes the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. She also kindly spent time helping my friend who came with me and gave us both samples to try.
This is exactly the level of service you expect from a luxury brand like Guerlain. Thank you, María, for such a wonderful experience!

I had very pleasant experiences of collecting online purchases.
Well, in my email was written that for pick up I need to go to floor S2 - which does not exist if you look at the board. But I figure that out 🙌 so it is located on P1 level. Where parking is.
I took a ticket from the machine, when my number was on a screen - I went to the indicated desk and got my purchase. All good and very efficient.

Love this place, excellent staff and everything you need. Just bought a coffee machine €85.00 with 3 year warranty cheaper than Media Mart and Fanc.

Came to pick up a "speedy online order" after being told the item I'd ordered online was ready for pickup. First, it's almost impossible to find the pickup location. Second, it took me around 40 minutes of waiting to get my order. They have tons of lockers, at least 100, for order pickups that are completely unused, and then a big room of people waiting where you have to take a ticket and wait because they take an unnecessarily long time checking out every person.

To the useless man on the 5th floor at the air guns session cashier and his equally useless manager: learn your laws, you dont need a DNI to purchase a category 4 air compression pistol. A NIE, and an ID document suffices for EU citizens. I understand you think your little country has special laws, but you dont. You are in the EU. Stop lying about Guardia Civil requirements and guidelines unless you want me to bring guardia civil there next time. I purchased the pistol at a gunsmith without fuss because the people working there actually know the law. You people are entirely and completely useIess.

Nice center.
Lot of shopping options with branded and non branded shops.
Lots of restaurants.
Stone baked pizza was outstanding which is on -1 floor of the centre. Its in the corner and most customers dont even recognize it. I think was something like Mo/Mi...I am sorry but can't recall the name. The guy alone is running the shop but provided extraordinary service. Please visit him. He is running the business on his own and bearly meeting the ends. Close by big businesses are overcoming his shop by attracting the customers.
In my opinion, he makes the best pizza in Valencia. Cheapest price and for Muslims, good news is its Halal as well.

Practical Tips for Shopping Near the Cathedral
To truly enjoy the retail landscape of Valencia’s old town, a little local insight goes a long way. The way shops operate here differs significantly from large malls or Northern European retail hours. Understanding the rhythm of the day and the local customs regarding pricing and interaction will enhance your experience and help you secure the best finds.
- Respect the Siesta: While larger stores and international chains remain open all day, many independent boutiques and artisan shops close from roughly 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Plan your shopping for the morning or late afternoon to avoid finding metal shutters pulled down over your favorite storefront.
- Embrace "Slow Shopping": In smaller, family-owned stores, service is personal but unhurried. Do not expect to rush in and out. Engage with the shopkeeper, ask questions about the products, and allow them to present their goods. This is often how you discover the history behind the item you are buying.
- Carry a Mixed Payment Method: While credit and debit cards are widely accepted, some smaller artisan stalls or traditional horchaterias may have a minimum spend for card transactions or prefer cash. Keeping a small amount of euros on hand is prudent for small souvenirs or a quick drink.
- Look Up and Down: The best shops are often not at eye level or on the main plaza. Many hidden boutiques are located on first floors (one level up from the street) or tucked down narrow alleys. Conversely, look down at the tiled entrances of shops, which often date back centuries.
- Validate Tax-Free Shopping: If you are a non-EU resident and plan to make significant purchases at larger retailers, always ask for a Tax-Free form before paying. You will need to have it stamped at the airport to reclaim the IVA (VAT), which can save you a substantial amount of money.
The joy of shopping in Valencia lies not just in the acquisition of goods, but in the atmosphere of the streets themselves. The sound of church bells from the Miguelete often accompanies your walk, serving as a constant reminder that you are shopping in a living, breathing museum. Take your time to wander down side streets that do not appear on tourist maps; often, these hide the most authentic leather workers, ceramicists, and pastry chefs.
Ultimately, the areas surrounding Valencia Cathedral offer a perfect blend of the contemporary and the medieval. Whether you leave with a designer handbag, a hand-painted fan, or simply a bag of fresh turrón, you will be taking home a piece of the city’s vibrant soul. Enjoy the hunt, and remember that in this part of Spain, the stroll is just as important as the purchase.
