10 Best Shopping Areas Near Casa Batlló

As you step out of the whimsical, undulating facade of Gaudí’s Casa Batlló, the magic of Barcelona doesn’t stop at the door. You are standing in the heart of the Eixample district, a meticulously planned grid of wide avenues and modernist architecture. While the main thoroughfare of Passeig de Gràcia is a luxury shopping paradise, the real treasures for the savvy shopper often lie in the intersecting streets and hidden plazas just a few blocks away.

Navigating a new city’s shopping scene can be overwhelming, especially when you are trying to balance sightseeing with finding the perfect souvenir or a unique local brand. Knowing where to go immediately after your cultural tour saves you valuable time and energy. Whether you are hunting for high-end fashion, independent boutiques, or authentic Catalan delicacies, the area surrounding Casa Batlló offers a diverse retail ecosystem that caters to every taste and budget.

The key to shopping well in this part of Barcelona is understanding the rhythm of the neighborhood. While Passeig de Gràcia hosts the flagship stores of global luxury houses, the adjacent streets like Carrer d’Enric Granados or Consell de Cent have recently transformed into pedestrian-friendly havens filled with artisan shops and lifestyle stores. These are the places where locals actually shop, away from the heavy tourist crowds.

This guide is designed to help you transition seamlessly from architectural admiration to retail therapy. We have curated a list that moves beyond the obvious, highlighting areas that offer a mix of quality, atmosphere, and authentic Barcelona character. You will find spots to rest your feet, grab a bite, and discover items you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

Accessibility is a major advantage here. Every location mentioned is reachable on foot within 5 to 15 minutes from the Casa Batlló entrance, ensuring you don’t need to navigate the metro or hail a taxi unless you are burdened with heavy bags. This walkability allows you to experience the city’s urban fabric intimately, turning a simple shopping trip into an extension of your sightseeing.

Before we dive into the specific districts and streets, it is worth noting that Spanish shopping hours differ from other parts of Europe. Most boutiques open around 10:00 AM, close for a siesta from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and reopen until 8:30 PM. Plan your day accordingly to avoid standing in front of a locked gate during the afternoon lull.

With that in mind, let’s explore the best retail destinations that surround this iconic architectural landmark.

Right on Barcelona’s waterfront, Maremagnum is a great place to combine shopping, dining, and a walk by the marina. It has a relaxed atmosphere with a mix of fashion stores, cafés, restaurants, and beautiful views of the boats and the Mediterranean. It’s an easy place to spend a couple of hours, especially after exploring the nearby waterfront. The location is one of the best features of this mall. Sitting outside with a drink or a meal while overlooking the marina was a nice break from the busy streets of the city. The shopping center is also close to attractions like the Columbus Monument, the Aquarium, and La Rambla.

I recently visited Centre Comercial Maremagnum during my trip to Barcelona, and it was one of the most enjoyable shopping and leisure experiences in the city. The location is absolutely fantastic, situated right next to the sea and surrounded by beautiful waterfront views. Walking around the shopping center while enjoying the fresh sea breeze creates a very relaxing atmosphere. The mall offers a wide variety of stores, including many well-known international and local brands. There are plenty of opportunities to find good deals and discounts, making it a great place for shopping enthusiasts. Whether you are looking for clothing, accessories, souvenirs, or everyday items, there is something for everyone. Another thing I really liked was the large selection of food and snack options. From quick bites and coffee shops to restaurants with outdoor seating, there are plenty of places where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. After shopping, it is wonderful to take a walk along the waterfront or simply sit near the beach and enjoy the view of the sea and boats passing by.The shopping center is clean well-maintained, and easy to navigate. The combination of shopping, dining, entertainment, and stunning seaside scenery makes Maremagnum much more than just a mall. I would definitely recommend Centre Comercial Maremagnum to anyone visiting Barcelona. It is the perfect spot to shop, eat, relax, and enjoy some of the best waterfront views in the city.

Came here more for the Time Out Market on the top floor, as I went to the one in Portugal. Wasn't as busy, so plenty of places to sit, even outside on the balcony overseeing the views of Barcelona. Some good choices for eatery so plenty to choose from. Just don't take too long to decide. There wasn't much stalls for dessert just to let you know, if you want something sweet.

Maremagnum is a large shopping and leisure complex located right by Barcelona’s waterfront in Port Vell. It’s known for its seaside setting, variety of shops and restaurants, and scenic views of the harbor. It was raining heavily when I visited, so staying in the mall turned out to be the perfect choice. The place is huge, with plenty of options for shopping and dining, making it easy to spend a few hours there. The port area just outside is also really beautiful – especially at night. The waterfront views and reflections make for amazing photos.

What a great place at the seaside of Barcelona, close to the huge and wonderfull aquarium. A bus stop in front of the door, easy connection to the metro and city. Lower floors have a shopping mall with many stores, topfloor is the TimeOut restaurant with dozens of different small (and huge) restaurants and bars. Lots of seats and tables, lots of types of food to chose from from simple tapas to sushi and exquisite meat. Prices vary from cheap to expensive. And one can even rent cellphone charges if needed. Nice outside with view of the harbour. Great place to wine and dine as well spent many hours just to enjoy the sights, food an drinks.

The last time I came to Barcelona. El Corte Inglés at Plaça de Catalunya was not open for a few days due to a major holiday. I finally shopped here today. Wow! I love this department store. It has 10 or more levels (including the supermarket and food court in the basement). I lost count of how many levels it really has. Lol! The store has everything you need for you, your family, your pets, and your house. It is truly one-stop shopping. I wish we had a store like this in California.

My experience in the store was very similar to my experience at Macy's flagship store in New York city, great! With a notch up because more merchandise in the fragrances than Macy's , the food floor great, a lot gourmet, delicious food. Designers all what you want and more. Super fun !!! To shop, went there three days during my travel .
Sergei Nossoff★★★★★
El Corte Inglés Plaça de Catalunya is truly a one-stop destination where you can find everything under one roof. From the latest kids’ toys and gifts to cutting-edge high-end electronics, premium home design items, fashion, cosmetics, and gourmet food — this place delivers on every level. The selection is vast yet well-curated, making it easy to move from shopping for family essentials to browsing luxury brands without feeling overwhelmed. Add to that the central location, excellent layout, and consistently professional service, and you get a shopping experience that’s both efficient and enjoyable. If you need one place in Barcelona that genuinely has it all, this is it.
Elie Ifrah★★★★★
El Corte Inglés Plaça de Catalunya is definitely worth visiting if you are in central Barcelona. Its location is probably one of its biggest advantages, right on Plaça de Catalunya and within walking distance of many of the city's main attractions and shopping streets. The department store is huge and offers an impressive variety of products across multiple floors. You can find clothing, shoes, accessories, cosmetics, perfumes, electronics, home products, food, souvenirs, and many well-known international and Spanish brands. It is particularly convenient when you want to do different types of shopping without having to visit several separate stores. Despite the size of the building and the number of people visiting, I found the store well organized and relatively easy to navigate. The staff I interacted with were professional and helpful when I needed assistance. Another advantage is that you can spend quite a lot of time here, especially if you enjoy browsing different departments. The location also makes it easy to stop by during a day of sightseeing without making a special trip. Overall, I had a very good experience at El Corte Inglés Plaça de Catalunya. It combines an excellent central location, a huge selection of products, recognized brands, and convenient shopping all in one place. I would recommend it both for serious shopping and simply for browsing while visiting Barcelona.
Damla Guray★★★★☆
Escribo sobre mi experiencia con la recogida en tienda. From the online page of the store was very practical and the process moved very quickly. When I went for in-store pickup, unfortunately, one of the 4 items was not ready, and since I had to return by ship on the same day, I wanted to cancel it. A black-haired lady who speaks English brushed me off quickly and left after saying something like ‘You can cancel it yourself when you see it's ready online." However, I was not satisfied with this answer and when I explained my situation and asked again to a very sweet lady named Mariona there, she completed the cancellation process in less than 5 minutes, gave me the document of the cancellation and processed it immediately. I thank her very much for respecting her work and helping me there🙏 Tax free area is on deck 9. Don’t forget to see the beauty of Barcelona from El corte Ingles..

Visited Diagonal Mar and had a very enjoyable experience. The area offers a modern and relaxed atmosphere, combining shopping, dining, leisure, and coastal surroundings in a very appealing way. One of the highlights is the balance between urban convenience and open spaces. The neighborhood feels spacious, clean, and well planned, with wide walkways, modern buildings, and easy access to the nearby beach. It creates a refreshing contrast to the more historic parts of Barcelona. I especially appreciated the shopping and lifestyle options available in the area. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants, retail stores, and entertainment spaces, making it a great place to spend time during the day or evening. The environment feels lively without being overly crowded, which adds to the comfort of the visit. The nearby seaside atmosphere is another strong point. Being close to the Mediterranean coast adds a relaxing element, with pleasant walking areas and scenic views that make the experience even more enjoyable. The area also feels modern, safe, and well maintained, making it suitable for families, tourists, and casual visitors alike. Public transport access is convenient, allowing easy connection to other parts of the city. Overall, a vibrant and modern part of Barcelona that combines shopping, leisure, and coastal charm. Diagonal Mar is definitely worth visiting for a relaxed and enjoyable city experience.

Absolutely amazing shopping centre!! They have a play area for kids which is outside, a lovely cinema and lots of other activities too! There are soooo many shops it is great! There is also the terrace area where there is a great variation in restaurants, we loved it here!

Diagonal Mall is one of the biggest mall in Barcelona. It has a lot of shops offering local and international brands. At the same time there is huge option for food and drinks. The multiplex offers new movies and opera and ballet shows. The service standard of the mall is top class. They have got the parking facility for 5000 cars with 3 hours free. Beside they have got 64 family sized parking spots and 54 specializes places for disabled people, great. There is a big area specially for children's entertainment. The shops are open from Monday to Saturday 9 to 9. Restaurants and leisure activities are open till 1 AM on weekdays and up to 3 on weekends and holidays. Worth visiting !!

Large mall, covers everything you’d expect. Got some clothes from Zara and had coffee and cake with my aunt. One practical note: the seating in the food area is mostly standard chairs, not great if you have mobility or comfort issues. We ended up at Starbucks which solved the problem but wasn’t ideal. Nothing special beyond that — it’s a solid, functional mall. Does the job.
Jaded★★★★★
Great mall with many different types of stores. There is a grocery store in the mall along with several playgrounds for kids. This mall definitely caters to every age from babies, toddlers, kids to adults and the elderly. The park on the terrace was very entertaining and is a great place for kids to exert their energy. The food court was huge with a wide variety of restaurants and stalls. Food prices however are not great and could be better. Line up at start bucks is long. Decathlon is huge and has all your travel needs. This mall is a short walking distance from both the subway and the beach, making it a very convenient location.

Arenas de Barcelona is a shopping center that, in my personal experience, feels quite average overall. From the outside, the building looks really impressive and massive, so I expected something more special inside, but once you go in, the variety of shops is actually quite limited compared to other malls in the city. That said, the most memorable part of the visit is definitely the rooftop. I really enjoyed going up there because it offers a great panoramic view of Barcelona, and it feels much more interesting than the shopping experience itself. It’s a nice spot just to relax for a while and look over the city. Overall, I would say it’s worth visiting mainly for the rooftop view, rather than for shopping.
Mohammad Diab★★★★☆
I visited Arenas de Barcelona and spent a few hours there before my flight. The building itself has an interesting history, as it was originally a bullring before being converted into a shopping mall. Once you’re inside, however, it feels like a modern mall, and there is very little that reminds you of its original purpose. The mall has several levels, although each floor is relatively compact. You’ll find a mix of fashion stores, sunglasses shops, technology retailers, and other everyday services, along with cafés, restaurants, public restrooms, and parking. One of the highlights is the rooftop terrace, which offers wide views across Barcelona. You can see both the mountains and the sea in the distance, and the Sagrada Família is also visible from the rooftop. There are a few viewing telescopes available if you want a closer look at the city. Overall, I wouldn’t consider it a destination mall, but if you are already in the area, it’s a good place to spend an hour or two, have a meal or coffee, and enjoy the views from the rooftop.
Zeeshan Zuberi★★★★★
Lovely 360 degree views of the city from the top. We just stopped by on our way to the hotel on the last day after a tiring day out. It was quick to get to the top floor and we were back on our way in 20 minutes. There were quite many dining places on the top floor but it was a bit early for dinner.
Izzy Van★★★★☆
Arenas de Barcelona It’s a mall located in what used to be a bullring, and I really like the design. It has a rooftop terrace with a viewpoint looking out toward the MNAC, the National Art Museum of Catalonia. If you’re here around the right time, you can also see the Magic Fountain show from this spot. It’s worth visiting and I recommend it for that reason, but I wouldn’t say it’s a mall with big-name stores. I wouldn’t go here to shop. Instead, I’d go for dinner at one of the restaurants on the terrace and just enjoy the view.
Robert Roberts★★★★★
Beautiful mall with such a unique design. This mall is in a round building that has a rooftop with 360 degree views of the city. There are so many options for shopping and also for dining. The one thing that I was taken aback by was paying for the restrooms. They are 1 euro to enter the restrooms however if you make a purchase at a store, you can ask for a QR code to scan to enter the restrooms without paying. Great place to visit while in Barcelona.

Very nice shopping mall hear the Torres Glories. We enjoyed a coffee and cake in the kiosk that was tasty and well priced w service w a smile. In addition I had a Ken’s protector issue and had it replaced by the store in the mall across from the Apple Store. “Casa de la Carcasa”. In 5 minutes it was fixed and perfect, for 6 Euros . Wonderful place for phone cases and small fixes. Thank you to the ladies at Casa de la Carcasa

Westfield Glòries is a big shopping mall with a huge variety of stores, making it easy to find almost everything in one place. It’s always my go-to mall for large grocery shopping, thanks to its well-stocked supermarket and convenient layout. The mall is clean, modern, and has plenty of dining options, making every visit enjoyable. A convenient spot for shopping and dining in Barcelona.

The shopping center has a wide range of shops, restaurants, and fast food places to choose from. One of the best parts is its interesting layout. It features a lovely outdoor area where you can shop and dine when the weather is nice, as well as a cozy indoor section to escape to when it’s not. I definitely recommend checking it out, whether you're going by yourself or with family. In addition, the food court offers the same flexibility. You can eat in a lively outdoor space or relax in a more sheltered indoor area. This makes it a great spot for everyone!

I visited L’illa Diagonal with my family and found it to be a pleasant shopping center to spend a few hours. It has a good mix of restaurants, cafés, clothing stores, perfume shops, and other retail outlets. The layout is attractive, there is a playground for children, and there is also a hotel and serviced apartments next to the mall. Parts of the mall are air conditioned while other sections are open-air, which gives it a different atmosphere. The restrooms were clean and well maintained, and I appreciated that there was an ATM available. Overall, it’s a comfortable place to shop, have a meal, or enjoy a coffee. We actually would have stayed for another hour if we had been able to store our shopping bags and luggage while walking around the mall. The only inconvenience we experienced was with the lockers. There were several types available, but all of them required coins. I didn’t have any coins, and even after asking a few stores if they could exchange my card payment for coins, they couldn’t help because of their cash handling systems. It would be much more convenient if at least some of the lockers accepted card payments or contactless payment methods.

I really love L'illa Diagonal. The layout of the building is thoughtfully designed, making it very comfortable to walk around and explore. One of the highlights is the variety of shops available. The center includes fashion brands, lifestyle stores, cafés, restaurants, and essential services, making it suitable for both casual browsing and dedicated shopping. The selection feels balanced and caters to a wide range of preferences. I especially appreciated the architecture and layout of the mall. The design feels spacious, clean, and easy to navigate, with wide walkways and comfortable seating areas that create a relaxed environment. Despite being a busy commercial center, the atmosphere remains comfortable and well organized. The dining options also add positively to the experience, providing good places to relax during shopping or meetings. The overall ambience feels modern, professional, and welcoming, making it enjoyable for both locals and visitors. The staff across the stores and facilities were generally friendly and professional, and the center overall felt safe, clean, and efficiently managed. Another strong point is the location, which is easily accessible from different parts of Barcelona and surrounded by a lively urban environment. Overall, a modern and well-maintained shopping center offering convenience, variety, and comfort. L'illa Diagonal is definitely worth visiting for shopping, dining, or simply spending time in Barcelona.

El Centre de la Vila is a compact shopping center located close to the Port Olímpic area, offering a more practical and low-key alternative to Barcelona’s larger malls. It feels especially convenient if you are in the nearby beach or marina zone rather than seeking a full-scale shopping destination. The atmosphere is relaxed and functional rather than flashy. Inside, you’ll find a mix of everyday services, small retail shops, and casual dining options. It’s not a place designed for luxury shopping or architectural impact, but rather for convenience—picking up essentials, grabbing a quick meal, or taking a break from the surrounding waterfront area. What stands out most is its accessibility. It serves as a useful stop when walking between the beach, the Olympic Port, and the nearby residential streets. During busy hours, it has a steady local flow, but it rarely feels overwhelming or tourist-heavy. It’s a straightforward neighborhood-style commercial center: practical, unpretentious, and useful, especially if you’re already in the Poblenou–Marina area and want something quick and close rather than a destination mall experience.

A decaying relic of time past. It feels like walking in to the 80s. Nearly everything has closed down, there's a leaky roof, lots of empty space and an eerie atmosphere. The remaining shops. cafes and restaurants are fine, but the whole place really needs a revamp.
bruno dias★★☆☆☆
I went to this shopping many times as I live close by. I experienced the decadence of the mall the last few years... The cinema is gone that gave great dynamic to it. And honestly everything goes gradually down. The toilets are day after day in horrible condition and not clean at all. The security guy goes constantly after people that get into the toilet to check on them but instead of checking the people he should check if they are clean.
Anant Vemuri★★★★★
I was sweetly surprised to see a supermarket close to my hotel. I was on a business trip when I discovered this on maps. I would say the people and the items offered at the supermarket were fresh and reasonably priced. But I would probably not be a good judge about prices because I'm not from Spain. Nevertheless, it was a good experience and I bought items from the store twice and found all that I wanted.
Michael D'Antonio★★★★★
You can find all the things you forgot in this store! I bought a charging wire for a good price. Also has floats and bags and chairs - all the things you might need and forgot!

It’s truly great. You can see a lot of pigeons playing with children and landing on them, as well as a man feeding them, which makes everything even more interesting. There are huge sculptures at the entrance and next to the fountain, and a lot of greenery that creates an even nicer atmosphere. It’s worth a visit, although I don’t think you can really spend more than half an hour here, as there isn’t an overwhelming amount to see.

I had only been to the beaches in California, so it was nice to see a different beach. It was clean and had lifeguards. It also has a place where it told you the ozone, water safety and weather. The coast was beautiful and the water refreshing. We were there in May.

Tips for Shopping Near Casa Batlló

To make the most of your shopping excursion in this vibrant district, a little local knowledge goes a long way. While the area is incredibly welcoming, understanding the nuances of payment, timing, and local etiquette will enhance your experience significantly. Here are some essential tips to ensure a smooth and rewarding retail journey.

  1. Always Carry a Physical ID for Tax-Free Shopping: If you are a non-EU resident, you are entitled to a VAT refund (21%) on purchases over €90.01 at participating stores. While many shops use digital systems like Global Blue or Planet, you must present your physical passport at the point of sale. A photo on your phone is often not accepted for the paperwork.
  2. Beware of the "Siesta" Gap: While large department stores on Passeig de Gràcia stay open all day, the independent boutiques in the side streets often close from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Use this time to grab a long lunch or rest at your hotel, then hit the shops again when they reopen in the cooler evening hours.
  3. Embrace the "Barcelona Card" Discounts: If you have purchased a Barcelona Card or a Barcelona Pass for your sightseeing, check the booklet or app before paying. Many retailers, especially in the luxury and souvenir sectors, offer discounts of 5% to 15% for cardholders. It is an often-overlooked way to save money on higher-priced items.
  4. Look for the "Comerç de Proximitat" Sticker: To support local businesses and avoid mass-produced tourist trinkets, look for stores displaying the city’s "Local Commerce" sticker. These shops are vetted for quality and authenticity. You are more likely to find unique, locally made fashion, jewelry, and food items in these establishments than in the generic souvenir kiosks.
  5. Don’t Overlook the Supermarkets for Gourmet Gifts: For high-quality, affordable edible souvenirs like olive oil, tinned seafood, or turrón, skip the specialty delis and visit a local supermarket chain such as Mercadona, Caprabo, or Ametller Origen. You will find the exact same brands locals use at a fraction of the price of the tourist-oriented gourmet shops.

The area surrounding Casa Batlló is more than just a transit point between attractions; it is a dynamic neighborhood where the spirit of Catalan Modernism blends with contemporary commerce. Taking the time to wander down the quieter side streets will reward you with a deeper connection to the city. You might stumble upon a hidden courtyard with a coffee shop, a vintage bookstore, or a designer working in their studio window.

Whether you leave with a designer handbag, a handcrafted ceramic, or simply a bag of fresh produce, the experience of shopping here is an integral part of the Barcelona lifestyle. Enjoy the pace, engage with the local shopkeepers, and let the unique aesthetic of the Eixample guide your journey.
