Finding a reliable pharmacy in the centre of Burgos is usually straightforward, whether you are a resident running a daily errand or a visitor walking the Camino de Santiago. The historic core is compact and highly walkable, which means you are never far from professional healthcare advice. Most establishments combine traditional Spanish pharmaceutical services with modern health screening and wellness products.
Understanding how pharmacies operate in Spain will save you time and potential frustration. While large commercial stores often follow standard retail hours, many local chemists close for the afternoon siesta. If you need urgent medication during the lunch break or late at night, you must rely on the designated on-duty pharmacy, known locally as the farmacia de guardia.
The pharmacists in Burgos are highly trained health professionals who can do much more than simply dispense prescriptions. If you have a minor ailment such as a cold, a blister from walking, or an allergic reaction, they can assess your symptoms and recommend over-the-counter treatments. This can often save you a lengthy wait at a public health centre or urgent care clinic.
For international visitors, language barriers are rarely an issue in the central pharmacies of Burgos. Due to the high volume of pilgrims and tourists passing through the city, staff are generally accustomed to assisting English speakers. They can help you understand the Spanish equivalents of common medications or contact your travel insurance provider if necessary.
The central district offers a mix of historic, family-run apothecaries and modern franchises. Many of the traditional shops have retained their beautiful wooden shelving and classic aesthetics while adopting digital prescription systems. This blend of old-world charm and modern efficiency makes the experience distinctly Spanish and highly reliable.
In addition to medication, these pharmacies are excellent resources for premium dermo-cosmetics, baby care, orthopedics, and homeopathic remedies. If you are looking for a specific French pharmacy brand or a high-protection sunscreen suitable for the high Castilian plateau, you will find a wide selection available in the heart of the city.
Below is a curated list of well-regarded pharmacies located within the central area of Burgos. They are strategically positioned near major landmarks, the Cathedral, and main shopping streets to ensure you can access care exactly when you need it.

I had a very unfriendly, disappointing experience at Farmacia Blanca Manzana. I went to the pharmacy to purchase insoles for my shoes. Unfortunately, a North American 37 is not the same as a Spanish 37. When I returned 30 minutes later to exchange the insoles, they would not accept the exchange. One employee was willing to accept the exchange, but the other convinced her not to, because the package was opened. All the packages were opened as it meant merely sliding off the back panel. She said that there was a piece of tape preventing it from being opened, but when I went back to the shelf to show her all the other pieces of tape that had been opened, she said that she still would not exchange because she could not resell the opened package. I went to a pharmacy with kinder employees to purchase insoles from a larger variety along with the rest of my required goods. I spoke with my money and spent it elsewhere. I would recommend the same for you and have a much more pleasant experience. It seems their many 1-star reviews are fair and justified.
If you are in search of foot solutions, whether insoles, blister management or skin repair, they have a much larger selection at Farmacia Marina Cañas Asanza (10min walk up the road) and much kinder employees. Their average of 4.9 stars speaks for itself.

This pharmacy is a disgrace! Charging for a paper bag that a lab gives them for free... You don't make enough, do you? It's not about the 10 cents... It's about the awful gesture. You certainly won't see me or my family there ever again!

A month ago, I bought a box of PROFER 40mg, which contains 30 sachets, and they charged me almost 8 euros. It seemed expensive, but I couldn't remember how much they cost at my pharmacy. Today, I went to buy them at my usual pharmacy, and they cost me 5.74 euros. It's not even worth commenting on; anyone can make money this way. I'll never go back to this pharmacy, nor will I recommend it.
I'm giving it one star because I can't give it less.

I've been to this pharmacy several times and never had any problems, but today's experience was very uncomfortable. The pharmacist asked me a lot of questions about my medication and my medical situation (whether I had a prescription, what it was for exactly, how many times a day I took it, etc.) in a way that felt completely unnecessary and intrusive. I understand that they can ask for what's essential to dispense medication correctly, but in this case, it seemed excessive and out of place.
I don't know if she was new or still learning, but the service was very unprofessional and quite unpleasant. I hope they improve this aspect, because I've never had anything like this happen at this pharmacy before.

The girl who helped me was wonderful. They didn't have a medication I needed, but she told me which pharmacy I could go to that did have it. People like that are hard to find these days. Thank you so much!

The owner's manners leave much to be desired. It's not just me who noticed; several customers of this pharmacy have already told me the same thing. Making a mistake is understandable, and an apology would have sufficed, but a lack of manners, respect, and arrogance when working with the public—I believe that, at the very least, she deserves an apology.

A huge disappointment. I'd been shopping at this pharmacy for years.
But this Christmas, I bought some medication. The sales assistant was polite and courteous, but she gave me incomplete information.
When I asked to speak to the manager, whose name I believe is Paloma, I was told she wasn't there. I returned the next day, and Paloma herself attended to me. Despite it being the pharmacy's fault, she refused to take responsibility, treating me terribly with an arrogant, overbearing, and rude attitude.
I asked for a complaint form, but she said they didn't have one, that pharmacies aren't required to have them (I don't know if this is true). Because I'm ill, I haven't been able to contact consumer protection agencies or the pharmacists' association, as I had intended, which is why I'm writing this. You can buy various products at pharmacies if you want, but medications can only be obtained through them.
I asked for a complaint form, and she said they didn't have one, that pharmacies aren't required to have them. (I don't know if this is true.) The way I was treated by this manager is unacceptable, her manners were appalling. I would have liked to pursue other avenues, but I don't have the strength.
"Thank you, Paloma. Have a good one."

I wouldn't recommend this pharmacy at all.
I went because I saw they had an exfoliant from their brand for sensitive skin. I asked for that specific one, and they brought out another one with different characteristics, specifically double exfoliation. I asked if they were sure because I'm on Dercutane dermatological treatment. They dismissed me with a "yes," saying it was just a change in packaging and that if it wasn't a gel, I'd get one. I repeated that I needed a purely physical exfoliant, not a combination of physical and enzymatic exfoliant, and they said yes, yes, it was the same thing.
I wasn't convinced at all because I could see they were just trying to make a sale. I double-checked, and sure enough, I can't use it with the treatment. I went back a little while later to return it, and surprise, surprise, they don't give refunds, they give you a voucher. The receipt doesn't mention anything about it, and the website's returns and exchanges section doesn't mention vouchers either. According to the girl, they're different companies (it's the pharmacy's website, but anyway). The girl who helped me, who just made faces and sighed when I told her I was coming back for that reason, told me that's how it was and that if I wanted, I could come back another day and tell the manager.
So, keep in mind that they don't warn you about it, and it's not on the receipt, that they issue vouchers and don't give refunds.

I placed an order with this pharmacy about a month and a half ago. I received the automatic order confirmation, but after that there were no updates, no shipping confirmation, and I never received the product.
This is especially disappointing because I have ordered the exact same product from them in the past and everything went fine, so I trusted them again this time.
However, this second experience has been completely different. I have tried multiple times to contact customer service by email and phone, but there is no response. The phone line only gives an automated message asking for the order details and promising a callback within 48 hours, which never happens.
At this point, I still have no product, no updates, and no reply from the company.
I am currently also contacting my bank to request a refund, since there has been no delivery and no customer support.
Based on this experience, I would be very cautious when ordering here.

Order #654608. Placed 3 weeks ago and still waiting ...
This is a scam business. Be aware new buyers !!!
They lure customers with low priced products, they send an email receipt and the order is never delivered hoping the customer will give up and leave them his money.
There is no way to communicate with them as they do not respond to emails or phone calls.
I wish I had read the reviews posted here ...
Now I'll have to manage the hard way and dispute the order with my credit card to claim back the money.

Order number: #620064. Ordered for my partner and paid with my credit card. About 2 months ago. Have not received any products, only order number. They have not responded to any of my emails. The message on their phone say they will reply within 72 hours, they don't. If order is not refunded I will contact my credit card company and their provider of payment solutions to make sure this behaviour stops.
My first review last week was not accepted by Google and appeal was denied. I don't know why since my review was truthful, contained no personal data or other information. Just no# of order and a screenshot (without name) of my order confirmation.

Tips for Visiting a Pharmacy in Burgos City Centre
Navigating the pharmaceutical system in a foreign country can sometimes feel daunting, but a little preparation goes a long way. Spanish pharmacies are incredibly accessible and service-oriented, yet there are specific local customs and regulations that can affect your visit. Understanding these nuances will ensure you get the right medication quickly and without unnecessary stress, especially if you are visiting during off-peak hours or need a specific prescription filled.
- Locate the Farmacia de Guardia: Do not expect all pharmacies to be open during the siesta (roughly 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM) or after 9:30 PM. Every pharmacy window displays a list of the farmacias de guardia for that day. You can also ask at your hotel or check local listings to find the nearest one open 24 hours.
- Bring Your Physical Prescription: While digital health records are improving, Spanish pharmacies generally require a physical paper prescription from a Spanish doctor for prescription medication. If you are a tourist, bring your original medication boxes and a letter from your home doctor to help the pharmacist find a suitable equivalent if you run out.
- Ask for Generic Equivalents: Brand names differ between countries. If you know the active ingredient of your medication (for example, Ibuprofen or Paracetamol), tell the pharmacist. They are legally allowed to dispense generics and can often provide a more cost-effective option than the branded version you might be used to.
- Carry Cash or a Standard Card: Most central pharmacies accept all major credit cards and contactless payments. However, if you are purchasing a very low-cost item, having some small change is polite and speeds up the transaction, especially in the busier shops near the Cathedral.
- Use Them for Minor Injuries: If you are a pilgrim suffering from blisters, muscle pain, or heat rash, go straight to a pharmacist before seeking a doctor. They are experts in wound care and can sell you Compeed patches, antiseptic creams, and elastic bandages that are often superior to what you might find in a general supermarket.
- Don’t Expect Antibiotics: Spain has strict laws regarding antibiotic resistance. You cannot purchase antibiotics over the counter without a prescription from a doctor. If you suspect you have an infection, the pharmacist will advise you on symptom relief but will direct you to a medical clinic for antibiotics.
The density of pharmacies in Burgos city centre means you can usually spot a glowing green cross within a few minutes of walking in any direction. This accessibility provides peace of mind for families traveling with children and elderly visitors who may require frequent access to medical supplies or climate-specific skincare.
Whether you need a simple bottle of water, a complex prescription, or expert advice on managing a chronic condition while traveling, the central pharmacies of Burgos offer a high standard of care. Their central locations and knowledgeable staff make them an indispensable part of the city’s daily rhythm and a vital resource for anyone passing through.
