Almería offers a shopping experience shaped by centuries of trade, sunlight, and Mediterranean character. From bustling pedestrian boulevards to quiet artisan workshops, the city rewards those who take the time to wander. Whether you are hunting for high-street fashion, local gourmet products, or unique souvenirs, the retail landscape is surprisingly diverse for a city of its size.
Understanding the rhythm of local shopping is key to enjoying it fully. Many smaller boutiques close during the afternoon siesta, reopening in the early evening when the streets come alive again. Larger department stores and shopping centers, however, typically remain open throughout the day. Planning your visits around these hours ensures you see the city at its most vibrant.
The historic center serves as the beating heart of Almería’s commercial life. Here, narrow streets lined with traditional facades open onto grand plazas filled with café terraces and retail outlets. It is a place where you can move seamlessly from a centuries-old cathedral to a modern shoe store within minutes, creating a unique blend of the ancient and the contemporary.
Beyond the historic core, the city expands into modern districts featuring expansive malls and specialized retail parks. These areas cater to residents and visitors looking for international brands, electronics, and home goods. They provide a comfortable, air-conditioned alternative during the hot summer months when outdoor browsing becomes less appealing.
Food lovers will find Almería particularly rewarding. The province is known as the "pantry of Europe" due to its massive agricultural output, and this bounty is reflected in the local markets and delicatessens. Looking for olive oil, cured ham, or locally produced wine makes for an excellent, flavorful souvenir that captures the essence of the region.
For those interested in craftsmanship, the city still holds pockets of traditional artistry. You can find ceramics inspired by Moorish designs, handmade espadrilles, and jewelry that reflects the light of the Mediterranean. These pieces offer a more personal connection to the culture than mass-produced trinkets found near the port.
To help you navigate this diverse retail scene, we have curated a guide to the most compelling destinations. Each area offers a distinct atmosphere, from luxury shopping to authentic local markets, ensuring that every type of shopper finds their perfect spot in this Andalusian gem.

It is a shopping centre, it has shops, for shopping. If you like to shop, what is not to like about a shopping centre. It also has food outlets and a cinema. Heaven for some. Parking is OK. Access is fine. Go fill yer boots!

Its a light airy mall with good selection of shops..low mark is for failure to provide some seating for those who need them whilst their partners wonder round the shops. A small cost that would make this a better experience.
Phoebe Arjona★☆☆☆☆
Horrible, small and unfriendly staff. We went with our very small dog, and they kicked us out after two hours. They claimed dogs are not allowed. Also they have one set of restrooms for the whole shopper by center on the second floor.
Everything is cramped and only one small elevator. Not exactly disabled friendly.
You are better off going to Torrecardenas shopping center.

Today I had my appointment to secure residency in Spain in the centre of Almería. Worried about parking, I was advised to use the Centro Comercial. During my dry run last week, and today I parked there underground in the cool, and on both occasions bought delicious things to eat and drink in Alcampo. Couldn't be happier to shop there having got to know the chain in Motril many years ago.
They even have an outlet for my favorite clothing chain, Tommy Hillfiger. Could be happier...

Good shopping centre, it would be nice to have a play area for children rather than just a few rides.
Plenty of parking available.
The cafés, restaurants and toilets are upstairs.
There is a lift to reach all of the different floors but the escalators ONLY go up, not down.

Great shopping experience, but if you get your beard grown for Movember, some security guards will activate their inner militia instincts, thinking that you look rough and you’ll be a trouble. Get shaved, and they’ll smile. Apart from that, immense space, clean toilets, clean premises, a lot of light and fresh air. Parking is huge, plenty of spaces. If you visit in the morning or early afternoon, most eating places are closed, so grab some breakfast first, somewhere.
Katherine Kenyon★★★★★
This mall is fantastic! Upstairs is a food lover’s paradise with KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King, and so many other options—all conveniently on one level. The ground floor has a wide variety of shops, including a supermarket, Primark, sports and clothing stores, shoe shops, jewelers, and even a sweet shop. There’s also a cinema, making it a great spot for a full day out. Getting a taxi was really easy too, with a taxi stand right outside and the number easily accessible. Definitely worth a visit!

Great small shops for clothes, gifts and house stuff, Jing's nails is good too. Supermarket has wide selection. Masko cafe in the centre is great.

I visited in August and found it ideally close to the beach—just across the sand, not on the promenade—but still pleasantly shaded and cool. The outdoor shopping area felt fresh and breezy, with a solid variety of shops, cafes, and a large supermarket for essentials. Visitors praised its clean, well-kept atmosphere, with favorites like Pura Vida café offering sea views and The Roof Terrace serving good food along with a great ambiance .
Robert Golding★★★★★
Great little shopping centre. Some really good shops and a lovely cafe in the centre of it all.
Delia Leopold★★★★★
It's a great shopping centre, full of different shops, clothing and jewellery. It has a few hairdressing salons, as well as a doctor, physiotherapist and insurance companies. It also has great coffee shops, my favourite is Pura Vida, where you can sit and look at the Mediterranean sea. Upstairs at The Roof Terrace, the food and view is amazing. Parking across the road on the beach, is easier, as the centre is extremely popular.

Loving the place. Fresh produce with vast options be it the meat, fish, vegetables or fruit. There are olive and chese counters too. You could have lunch here, there are a few eating places inside buat you mau need to check on opening times. We were at one of the eating places around 12 noon but we were too early; we were told they were to open at 1.30pm; we couldn't wait that long. There's a supermarket in the basement level

An interesting place to visit as a tourist. A good range of fresh foods including a fish market downstairs and a small supermarket. Nice, clean toilets downstairs but the lack of toilet seats might put some people off.

Amazing market, fantastic stalls, lovely atmosphere, fantastic produce, reasonably priced. Very clean and easy to park. We had lunch here and it was amazing, we have been eating tapas for 15 years+ and I can honestly say and recommend the Toro, we were speechless it was tender juicy rich and just incredible, the service was very good and fast, the staff were very helpful polite and very knowledgeable. Well done. This market is now on our to go to list whenever we are in Almeria. Absolutely loved this place😋

They open a little before 6:00 AM.
For trailer unloading, this is the entrance location. There's a gate, and when they open, the registration booth is just to the left of the gate.

If you arrive half an hour early, you won't have to queue because you'll be first. Then, at 6:00 AM, a couple of trucks or more might arrive, and you'll have to wait to the left of the exit barrier so as not to obstruct other vehicles and thus make it easier for them to enter.
Friendly staff.
I don't know about the download yet; I'll post my experience from today in another review.
Best regards and safe travels to all tractor drivers!

I waited over 40 minutes at the butcher shop, and because of a simple mistake when printing the receipt (deli instead of butcher), the clerk refused to serve me. A complete lack of flexibility and common sense. After making people wait so long, refusing to fix such a silly error is disrespectful to the customer. A terrible and very unfair experience.

I was robbed inside the store and they didn't do anything to help us. Some employees already know that thefts occur inside the store, yet they aren't even willing to make the effort to find out who is responsible so they can report it.

Nice store! A bit bizarre with the shared boundary with Hipercor on the lower ground floor. 1st floor menswear’ 2nd floor ladies wear are classy with offerings from som leading brands. No hassle at all from the staff & easy to pay when you’ve seen, done & selected enough of the range of products on offer.
Leenz Niko★★★★★
Always worth a few extra miles down to El ejido for this one.
It’s got good designer brands and it’s easy to find and park. Then the Supermarket shopping in Hipercor is always worth it for food, wine and beer bargains, plus electrical.
It’s short of a good restaurant, but you can at least get a tostada and a coffee. My suggestion is arrive in the morning, have breakfast, take the escalators to the top floor and work your way back down to the car park via the supermarket.
Derek Hudson★☆☆☆☆
I have been visiting this shopping centre since it opened being a frequent visitor from the UK and always enjoyed the experience including a meal in the restaurant that is till today we sat down and a waiter brought us our drinks then they began to take orders and never even brought us a menu they walked straight by us and proceeded to serve the local Spanish clientele that came in after us and continued to ignore us I shouted the waiter over who just shrugged his shoulders so I asked for the bill for our 2 drinks which he did straight away and made us feel like they wanted us out of the way welcome to Brexit and feeling like a 2nd class citizen

Tips for Shopping in Almería
To make the most of your retail therapy in Almería, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The city operates on a schedule that differs from Northern Europe, and understanding the payment culture and seasonal sales can significantly enhance your experience. These practical tips will help you shop like a local, save money, and find the highest quality goods without the stress.
Time your visit around the siesta. Most independent shops in the city center close between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Plan your morning browsing before a long lunch, then resume shopping in the evening when stores reopen until 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM. Shopping centers and large chains usually do not close for siesta.
Plan for the sales seasons. The best deals are found during the winter sales (rebajas) starting around January 7th and the summer sales starting July 1st. Discounts often start at 30% and can reach up to 70% as the weeks progress. If you are visiting at the end of January or August, you will find the steepest markdowns.
Carry a mix of payment methods. While credit and debit cards are widely accepted in shopping centers and established stores, some smaller market stalls and artisan workshops prefer cash. Having €20–€50 in cash is useful for purchasing small items like spices or fresh fruit at traditional markets.
Bring your own shopping bag. Spain has largely phased out free plastic bags. While stores offer paper or reusable bags for a small fee, carrying a lightweight tote or backpack is more convenient and better for the environment, especially if you plan to visit food markets.
Look for the "Hecho en España" label. If you want authentic souvenirs rather than imported goods, check the labels carefully. Local ceramics, leather goods, and food products will often have specific designations of origin, such as "Denominación de Origen" for wines and olive oils, guaranteeing quality and authenticity.
Almería’s shopping scene is not just about acquiring goods; it is about participating in the daily life of a vibrant Andalusian city. Taking a break at a terrace bar between stores allows you to people-watch and soak in the atmosphere that makes shopping here distinct from the sterile experience of a typical mall.
Whether you leave with a bag full of designer clothes, a bottle of local wine, or simply a handcrafted ceramic bowl, the memory of the experience will linger. The city invites you to slow down, engage with shopkeepers, and appreciate the blend of cultures that defines this sun-drenched corner of Spain.
