With its sun-bleached facades, pebbled beaches, and distinct Niçoise identity, the capital of the French Riviera is a city that demands to be savored slowly. While the Promenade des Anglais offers sweeping views of the Mediterranean, the true pulse of the city often beats strongest inside its historic cafés.
These establishments are more than just places to grab a quick espresso; they are social institutions where locals debate politics, artists find inspiration, and tourists rest their feet. From Belle Époque grandeur to minimalist third-wave roasteries, the café culture in Nice is as diverse as the city itself.
Finding the perfect spot requires looking beyond the tourist traps that line the main squares. The best experiences are often hidden in the narrow alleyways of Vieux Nice, the artistic quarter of the Port, or the residential streets of the Libération district.
Whether you are seeking a buttery croissant for breakfast, a shaded terrace for an afternoon rosé, or a specialty flat white to start your day, this guide offers a curated selection of the city’s finest. We have prioritized venues that offer excellent quality, authentic atmospheres, and a true taste of the Niçoise lifestyle.
Below, you will find a detailed list of the most exceptional addresses currently shaping the coffee scene in Nice. Each location has been chosen for its unique character, consistency, and contribution to the city’s vibrant culinary landscape.

Absolutely outstanding specialty coffee.
If I remember correctly, they had around five different coffees available for V60, divided into regular and premium options, which is always a nice touch.
We ordered two of the premium Colombian coffees as iced V60s for €11 each. My rule with specialty coffee is that I won't drink it if it's under €5. You pay for the quality you want, and these coffees were worth every euro.
These were genuinely the best iced V60 coffees we have ever had. We've had specialty coffee all across Europe and the US, and these were exceptional. If you're looking for the best specialty coffee in Nice, you have to stop here.
I also really appreciated the little touches from the baristas. Before brewing, they brought out the freshly ground coffee for us to smell. It's a small gesture, but it's exactly the kind of thing I love at a serious specialty coffee shop.
The shop is tucked away in a cute little alleyway near Old Nice. It does get quite busy, and we ended up standing outside while we drank our coffees, but that wasn't an issue for us at all.
If we come back to Nice during a colder season, we'll definitely be back to try their V60s hot.

I stopped by La Claque Coffee Shop during my visit to Nice and was very impressed. The coffee was excellent, clearly made with care and high-quality beans. The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed, and perfect for taking a break while exploring the Old Town. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with recommendations. Great pastries, great coffee, and a nice local vibe. Definitely one of the best coffee spots I visited on the French Riviera and a place I would gladly return to
Jaime★★★★★
La Claque Coffee Shop is the kind of boutique café that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment. The atmosphere is charming and perfect for starting the day.
My wife and I both ordered iced lattes with oat milk and vanilla flavoring, and of course I had to add an extra shot of espresso.
We also shared a pistachio brioche, and wow… what a flavortastic moment! Soft, buttery, and filled with delicious pistachio flavor, it paired perfectly with the coffee.
Afterward, we headed off to wander the beautiful little streets of Nice, feeling fully caffeinated and ready for adventure.

A lovely little gem tucked away in Nice. La Claque is a small, cozy coffee shop with limited seating, but plenty of charm and warmth. We tried their specials — the ube latte and the rosemary latte — and both were absolutely delicious and surprisingly well balanced. It’s always fun to find creative flavors done right, and these definitely delivered.
The staff were incredibly friendly and relaxed, creating a chilled, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger (if you’re lucky enough to snag a seat). Perfect for a quick coffee stop or a calm break while exploring the city.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A hidden gem that became our daily ritual
We stumbled upon La Claque Café Boutique on our first morning in Nice — and ended up coming back every single day for the rest of our trip. Three days, three visits. That says everything.
This place has a soul that’s hard to find in most coffee shops. The vibe is warm, intimate, and unpretentious, tucked perfectly in the heart of Old Nice. But let’s talk about what really matters: the coffee is exceptional.
If you’re even remotely a coffee lover, do yourself a favour and order the Guatemalan espresso. It’s complex, smooth, and has just the right brightness — the kind of cup that makes you slow down and actually savour it. The cortado was equally outstanding — perfectly balanced milk-to-espresso ratio, beautifully executed every time.
The staff clearly take their craft seriously without being snobby about it. They were warm, knowledgeable, and made us feel like regulars from day one.
At €1–10, it’s also incredibly reasonable for the quality you’re getting.
If you’re visiting Nice, skip the tourist-trap cafés on the main drag and find your way here. You’ll probably end up coming back tomorrow too. 🙌

I went by myself, and was seated almost immediately. There are quite a few brunch options, both savoury and sweet. If you don’t know what you’d like, the person taking your order is very helpful and patient. I got the gourmet brunch, with eggs Benedict and French toast, that came with a cold juice and a hot beverage. Everything was delicious and well cooked. It’s also a lot of food, which I couldn’t finish 😅. The presentation of the food is also very on point. I would 100% go back on a next trip. The staff is VERY kind and friendly. Excellent brunch option.

Friendly and fast service. Food was out extremely fast and was very delicious. Perfect location right in front of the train station so it made things very easy for us while traveling around. Even with the crowds service was still fast and no waiting on anything. Definitely a recommendation if in the area or needing something close to the train station.

Visited Le Kawa with a group. They offer a great variety of dishes covering both sweet and savory cravings. However, the menu structure is confusing, and checking it on their website is a hassle because of an unoptimized layout before you can order at the counter.
The kitchen does a good job with the savory items, and the desserts are perfectly fine, though they need to make sure hot drinks are served hot, not room temperature. Service was slow during our visit, and the kitchen timing was off (dishes came out in a random order instead of together, for some the sweet dishes came first and for the rest of us the salty dishes).
The team working there is lovely and very friendly, but for the overall atmosphere and pacing, there are alternative brunch spots in town that offer a smoother experience.

People are very nice, food even better and it didn’t take long. has air conditioning. We ordered the croque madame and the french toast with maple syrup, ended up being waaay better then expected. 10/10

Delicious fresh benedict eggs and my father also said that the eggs were very nice too.
The staff was nice as well.
I almost forgot about their pistachio latte that was also pretty tasty.
11/10 would recommend.

If you’re looking for a cafe with great coffee, a relaxing atmosphere, and genuinely friendly service, this place is absolutely worth visiting. The coffee is rich and perfectly brewed, the pastries are fresh, and the overall vibe makes it ideal whether you want to work, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet moment alone. The interior is cozy and beautifully designed, with music and lighting that create the perfect mood. What really stands out is the attention to detail and how welcoming the staff are. Definitely one of those cafes you’ll want to come back to again and again.

I loved this cafe and the service so much I visited every day during my trip. There is an amazing ambiance, cleanliness and outdoors seating. The service is friendly, quick and you can comfortably speak English if French is not your primary language. I ordered an Americano and a cappuccino, both were delicious. I highly recommend their flavour-
filled donuts. They have Buenos, pistachios, cream, chocolate and more. Great selection of lunch items like sandwiches also. Don’t skip their desserts! Overall a lovely place in central Nice.

We had breakfast here for 2 days. 5 minutes walk from our hotel. Good bagels , panini , focaccia and coffee. Location is great! Having breakfast with the tram passing by and a cathedral as your backdrop.

The best Coffee break in Nice. It has the best coffee and the most delicious focaccia sandwich in the city. The location is very central, so it’s easy to find and perfect for a quick break. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone visiting Nice.

I really enjoyed my visit to Hug Cafe! I ordered a latte and gluten-free banana bread; both were excellent. My latte was extra hot, just the way I like it, and kept me warm during my walk to the tram. Nice little place with very good coffee.
I came here for breakfast on 1st January when all the bakeries were still closed. I had a very good flat white and discovered what they call the "Crookie", a mix of cookie and croissant, which I found a fun twist.
There is not much place to sit insight.
Mariia Tseloeva★☆☆☆☆
Had a filter coffee that was transparent. Had a half of the sip. Instead of returning back the money, got a coffee twice cheaper than I payed for the filter. Barista said that it was a present for me. Never again.
I would also like to clarify the legal aspect of this situation.
I understand that taste is subjective, and I am not claiming that a customer is legally entitled to a refund simply because they dislike a particular coffee profile.
However, my complaint was not simply that I disliked the taste. The €6 filter coffee I received was extremely thin and almost transparent, to the point that I could barely drink it. This raises a question of whether the beverage was properly prepared and whether the service was performed as expected.
Under French contract law, in the event of imperfect performance, a consumer may seek a proportionate reduction of the price (Article 1217 of the French Civil Code, with the price-reduction mechanism set out in Article 1223).
I therefore find it misleading to describe the €2.80 replacement coffee as an “entirely free of charge” solution while retaining the full €6 price of the original drink. The fact that the replacement was free does not change the fact that I paid €6 for a beverage I could barely consume.
I would have considered a reasonable solution to be a refund or an appropriate reduction of the price of the original €6 coffee.
I hope you will reconsider your response and the way this situation has been characterized.

Met up with a friend for a quick coffee and catch up, she suggested this spot and I had it on my list. So glad we came! Lovely coffee and even better pastries. I got a raspberry rose and a traditional madeleine. Loved it and can't wait for my next visit!

This is a lovely cafe in the heart of nice. Their matcha is of good quality and their Madeleine’s are absolutely delicious. A must try for everyone who loves a sweet treat.

We visited Nice last week, and this was our favourite place to get coffee! Not only was the coffee delicious, but the staff were so lovely and patient with our rusty French. We felt so welcomed and came back several times. The Madeleine cakes were also lovely.

Wow! One of the most wonderful food experiences in Nice. To rate this as the best coffee in Nice doesn’t do it justice. Imagine the pleasure of walking into this small welcoming space, to find warm madeleines fresh out of the oven. Thank you, Karlie, for the best start to my Saturday!

The server was friendly and the atmosphere was okay, but the food was the worst part of the experience.
I had the worst croissant of my life—it wasn’t crispy at all and felt like I was chewing a piece of paper. There was no fresh buttery aroma or flavor. The pain au chocolat was just as disappointing.
The iced coffee was extremely weak and tasted more like flavored water than coffee. My friend even commented that she had never had such a weak iced coffee before. The detox juice was okay, but nothing special.
I won’t be coming back.

Good food quality and huge portions. Good coffee too and overall good place fro breakfast. It can be very busy as it’s so central but we arrived very early.

A pretty cafe to stop by for afternoon tea. There is a nice selection of cakes and the all day breakfast menu would win most people over. Given such a hot day, the air conditioning inside was a welcomed relief. It was also nice to see an Iced Latte on the menu. There is also some outside seating in the shade if you prefer. Over all it was a pleasant visit.
Tracie Jones★★★★★
Excellent menu choices combing traditional choices with French influence.
Service was decently fast, attentive, and accommodated many languages. Very healthy options, large portions, decent pricing.
Decor was simple and appropriate but comfortable for a crowded busy environment. We conscientiously didn't linger like you would like to on a Holiday morning because you could see and feel how busy it was. (Waitlist)
My only quip, was that I desperately needed some coffee ( pounding headache) and asked that it came first. I was guatanteed it would. However, it arrived after my food. So the individual attention was compromised by the flow. That said, the team was very nice and working as diligently as they could.

Overall a good lunch! The place is cute and the brunch is nice. The food was good too! However, we got the fraise cake and it was very minty? For some reason which was weird. The icing on top was also a bit crusty and dry which usually happens when it gets left out for too long and so unfortunately it was just really dry. Not very tasteful. However, we order the carrot cake too which was amazing! Super soft, creamy, and flavorful. Overall I would recommend this place. Also the servers were very friendly and nice!
Anna Ts★★★★★
I had brunch at the place with delicious food! All the people working there were very friendly, polite and efficient. I would definitely go back during my next trip to Nice.
Even though I have been to several brunch places with similar menu, this one is by far the best. Apart from the food quality and top service, the place is very cozy and has a great atmosphere!

I wanted to try their famous avocado salmon croque. The taste was good with an egg on top but I would definitely prefer cold smoked salmon. The salade was ok just simple nothing amazing. A good point for the orange passion drink: I loved it. I want to Edmond on Gambetta and the inside vibe is nicer and I could die for their egg Benedict there. Service was accurate as they thought about the water for my dog. A bit noisy though today.

If we’re talking about brunch, I’ll be the first one to be honest.
French toast was SOOO delicious, with a lot of fruits on top and the right amount of syrup. I was craving a French toast and it made me really happy.
My mom tried the chicken burger and she was really happy about it too, the chicken was crispy and juicy.
Staff was super cool, and the girl with red hair and red eyeliner was super sweet. I asked for a lemonade and I didn’t know it was gonna be in a bottle, kinda like a soda. So I said I thought it was a freshly squeezed lemonade and she said they could make that too. 💗🍋
Music is cool but keep in mind is a little loud, so if you’re looking for a quiet place this is not it.
If you’re going for the vibes and the good food, I highly recommend it 🙂↕️
Thank youuu! 🙌🏼

By far my favorite coffee shop in Nice! Not only did they have tonssss of options of different lattes and matches, but everything tasted amazing! Based on Google reviews, it seems like a good place, but we had a bad experience maybe we just got unlucky! 😅We wanted breakfast, and when we sat down inside to check out the QR code menu, a staff member quickly approached with a very cold, stressed expression. She stated without any explanation that the kitchen was closed (at 9:20 AM!) and that they only had cakes, pastries, croissants from the display case, and coffee to offer. Yet, you could see other tables still receiving dishes prepared in the kitchen... ☹️I don't know what their problem was that day, but I found the service really poor—no smiles, no warm welcome. It felt like a student-run business where you're a nuisance to them; they seemed to lack any knowledge of customer service or communication, perhaps they're in the wrong line of work. So, we just ordered coffee to go, and it was very average. If you're on vacation in Nice, go somewhere else so this place doesn't spoil your experience... My advice to the owners: invest in communication and customer service training if you want to stay in this business.

Such a lovely place!!! The interior is simply charming and so is the staff. We had coffee and it was very good. Our host gave us a little present of a two cake pieces to try, which was nice.

The most adorable cafe we have ever been to! We have been travelling for 6 weeks and today we had the most delicious coffee since we left home. Perhaps it is because it has a secret ingredient and is 'fait avec amour'?! We also treated ourselves to share a slice of the lemon cake, which was divine and paired perfectly with the espresso. The atmosphere is so beautiful, it's as if when you walk in, it feels like a warm hug.
I wanted to purchase a t-shirt, but unfortunately there wasn't my size. But they are super cute, so when you visit, get yourself an espresso, some lemon cake and a t-shirt!!

The best rose raspberry cake I’ve ever had! I was amazed by every single bites. Super nice staff and good coffee too. Highly recommended!

My husband and I are passionate coffee lovers, and wherever we travel, we always search for the best specialty coffee to enjoy a V60. We’ve had incredible coffee experiences around the world, including Japan, but I can honestly say that the iced V60 at Eburnie Coffee Culture was the best I’ve ever had.
The owner/barista is exceptionally skilled and truly passionate about coffee. Every detail was perfect—from the brewing to the beautiful glassware it was served in. The coffee was incredibly clean, balanced, and full of flavor.
The pastries were also outstanding, and the atmosphere was warm, cozy, and welcoming. This wasn’t just a great cup of coffee—it was a memorable experience.
If you’re in Nice and appreciate specialty coffee, don’t miss this place. Easily one of the highlights of our trip. We’ll definitely be back! ❤️

Great specialty coffee spot in Nice!
We both got iced V60s; one from Kenya and one from Colombia. They had three different coffees available for V60, which was really nice to see and gave us a good variety to choose from.
The outdoor seating was also great and made for a really nice place to sit and enjoy the coffee.
We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in Nice!

Spent 3 weeks in Nice and this place has the best coffee, pastries, and atmosphere. When I travel, my 1st destination is always specialty coffee. I keep coming back to Éburnie.
Beautiful family run place. Recommend the Pain au Chocolate too. It was my favorite in the city. The latte art is also amazing! Can’t recommend this spot enough!

We always look for speciality coffee bars when travelling & found this gorgeous spot. The owner / barista is so skilled & pours every cup to perfection. The beans they use taste great, the incredible coffee art is a bonus. Family owned business so it felt very cosy & welcoming yet modern. We will be back every time we are in Nice!

The owner and his wife are just so friendly! And the coffee is top notch! To top things up, the latte art is unique and beautiful when you order a coffee with milk (cappuccino, flat white etc)! Their tea selection is also impressive! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Nice! It’s a must go establishment in the city!

Absolutely amazing. The food was so nice - waiters are some of the kindest people I’ve met and the prices are relatively cheap for the massive portions they give. They also let you customise everything including allergies. Only downside is that the queue can be quite long depending on the time you come. 5 stars no doubt.

Absolutely delicious! We had the French toast which was loaded with fresh berries and so delicious, scrambled eggs with mushrooms and spinach the eggs were perfectly cooked and an altered bagel which was delicious! And the coffee was wonderful! A few good veggie/vegan options
Highly recommended

Final day of a 4 week trip to Europe, and after 10 countries, this was the best breakfast of our entire trip. I would give it more stars if I could. It's conveniently located just a few minutes from the train station. It must be a popular place, it filled up shortly after we got there. Once you order, you won't wait long for all the onoliciousness. Dis definitely broke da mouth.
I had Le Frenchy which is in the pictures.

A fantastic place for breakfast! The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. I ordered the scrambled eggs with a croissant and avocado, and it was exceptionally good. Paired with a freshly squeezed juice, it was the perfect start to the day. Highly recommend!

Omelette was not thw great. It was not cooked through properly. They can and should do better as an Omelette is something the French usually do very well. The coffee was good.
Tips for Choosing the Right Café in Nice
Navigating the café culture in Nice requires a bit of local knowledge to ensure you get the best value and experience. The way locals drink coffee differs significantly from the leisurely habits often associated with other European capitals, and knowing the etiquette can save you money and enhance your visit. Here is what you need to know before you sit down.
1). Understand the Pricing Structure
In France, the price of a coffee often depends on where you are standing. A “café au comptoir” (standing at the bar) is significantly cheaper than a “café en salle” (sitting at a table). If you are in a hurry and want to save a few euros, do as the locals do and drink your espresso standing at the counter.
2). Look for the “Torréfacteur” Label
If you are serious about coffee, seek out shops that roast their own beans or partner with local artisan roasters. These places, often labeled as “torréfacteur,” focus on traceability and brewing precision. They are your best bet for a flat white or a V60 pour-over, which can be hard to find in traditional establishments.
3). Time Your Visit for the Terrace
The terraces of Nice are busiest between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. If you want a prime spot for people-watching without the crowds, visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. The golden hour light on the ochre buildings of Vieux Nice is best enjoyed with a late-day spritz or a cold brew.
4). Embrace the Local Specialties
While a standard espresso is ubiquitous, Nice has its own regional twists. Look for a “café noisette” (an espresso with a dash of milk) or try a “café gourmand,” which is an espresso served with a selection of miniature desserts. It is the perfect way to sample local patisserie without committing to a full pastry.
5). Be Patient with Service
Service in Nice is generally relaxed and unhurried; it is considered rude to rush a meal or a coffee break. Waiters will not bring the bill until you ask for it, so signal them by saying “l’addition, s’il vous plaît” when you are ready to leave.
The café scene in Nice offers a beautiful contrast between the old world and the new. By venturing beyond the main tourist thoroughfares and exploring the neighborhoods where locals live, you will discover spaces that offer genuine warmth and exceptional craftsmanship.
Whether you are ending a long day at the beach or fueling up before exploring the Matisse Museum, the right café can turn a simple break into a lasting memory of the Côte d’Azur.
