Finding a reliable pharmacy in the heart of Zaragoza is rarely a planned event. Whether you are dealing with a sudden migraine, a child’s fever, or simply need to restock a prescription while navigating the historic streets, access to healthcare is essential. The city centre, with its dense blend of residential flats, tourist attractions, and commercial hubs, is fortunately well-served by a network of highly professional farmacias.
Understanding the local pharmacy system in Spain is key to a smooth experience. Unlike in some countries where over-the-counter medication is found in supermarkets, in Spain, farmacias are the exclusive gatekeepers for all medicinal products. They are easily identifiable by their bright green, often illuminated, crosses hanging outside the storefronts.
The pharmacists working in Zaragoza’s centre are highly trained healthcare professionals. Most speak a functional level of English, and even if there is a language barrier, they are adept at reading symptoms and providing the correct generic medication. They can also advise on whether a condition requires a visit to a nearby medical centre or hospital.
For tourists, this accessibility is a lifeline. The city centre encompasses major landmarks like the Basilica del Pilar and the Aljafería Palace. Walking these cobbled streets in the Spanish sun can take a toll, and having a pharmacy nearby for hydration salts, plasters, or sunburn relief makes the visitor experience significantly safer and more comfortable.
Residents, too, benefit from the competitive yet community-focused nature of these establishments. Many of these central pharmacies offer specialized services beyond simple dispensing, including blood pressure monitoring, weight checks, and personalized medication reviews. This level of care ensures that even in a bustling urban environment, healthcare remains personal and localized.
The operational hours of central pharmacies are generally generous, typically running from early morning until late evening. However, the true safety net is the "Farmacia de Guardia" system. This rotation ensures that even in the middle of the night or on public holidays, there is always a designated pharmacy open to serve the city.
To help you navigate the area efficiently, we have compiled a list of reputable establishments located within the central districts. Whether you need a specific brand or urgent advice, these locations are the most accessible options for anyone in the heart of the Aragonese capital.

Amazing service! I have used their online service twice now and the products are shipped very fast. They also have good prices in comparison to the market.
The only reason I don't give a 5* is becuase on the last order they delivered the wrong product and it ended up having costly efect on my side because I urgently needed the product and ended up having to buy it at my local pharmacy. However, the customer service in dealing with this mistake was amazing! I informed them of the error and they immediatly replaced my product with the correct one free of charge.
For this reason, they are my online pharmacy of choice. Will keep buying from them.

The site's reliability and professionalism are excellent. I placed my first order with some understandable reservations, but as soon as I received a confirmation email, I was certain of its reliability and professionalism. I ordered because I found some pills/vitamins among their products that my plastic surgeon prescribed for nerve regeneration in my hand after surgery, and I found them almost €15 cheaper than in Gijón. Furthermore, their catalog of good, typical hygiene products, creams, dietary supplements, medications, etc., is very extensive and varied, featuring the best brands on the market. The order was processed and I received it in just a few days, and it turned out to be one of the most satisfying online purchases I've made to date... and I've made quite a few. I'm very grateful, and as someone mentioned below, that handwritten note won me over as a customer for future purchases, this time without any reservations. Order placed on Friday the 10th and received on the 13th of July 2026.

A centrally located and very well-stocked pharmacy. It's always open, which is a lifesaver more than once. You have to be patient; everyone needs paracetamol on a Sunday, and the queues on holidays are terrible. At least there are always plenty of people working, so the queue moves quickly.

Very disappointed with the service. I placed an order for four items, but only received three. The missing item had been charged, yet it wasn't included in the package. I find this to be a lack of professionalism and attention to detail in order preparation. I hope they improve their shipping procedures to prevent this from happening again. I do not recommend buying from them.

Hello
About 40 minutes ago I was at the pharmacy and a young man helped me—he was phenomenal, fantastic, excellent. I left feeling incredibly grateful and very pleased with the service. I've been living in Spain for two years and I've never received such great service. His way of serving and selling made us happy to buy. I made the mistake of not asking his name. He's exceptionally skilled. He was at the checkout in front of the displays of anti-inflammatory and analgesic creams.
Thank you so much. Your kindness is much appreciated.

A large, spacious, and bright neighborhood pharmacy with exquisite decor. The pharmacists, like the sales assistant (who must be Latina), are always friendly and professional. Besides catering to basic needs like medications and supplements, they also have a parapharmacy section with cosmetics and top-brand hygiene products for both adults and children. One detail that caught my attention, especially after this post-COVID era, is that one day, despite not wearing a mask and needing to buy some urgent medication, they served me normally, without forcing me to buy a mask, unlike another pharmacy on the same street, even though masks aren't used on public transport anymore. For that reason alone, I'll definitely return. Highly recommended for the quality service, right up until closing time. That's much appreciated. One detail... The building has an angled facade facing two streets and features plastered facades arranged around unremarkable lintelled openings. The most striking element of the façade is its ornamentation, crafted from richly polychrome ceramics with Renaissance motifs. The corner area features a relief depicting the family's heraldic arms, flanked by two rampant lions.
100% recommended for the quality of customer service. 👍

I'm giving it one star because there aren't any fewer. I want to express my regret and reiterate the very bad experience I had at this pharmacy with one of its employees, a dark-haired woman with long hair. She was extremely unprofessional and arrogant, and didn't know how to treat customers properly.
I clearly explained to her that the cardiologist had instructed me that my daughter needs to take Seguril, not the generic (furosemide). Despite explaining this calmly and stating from the beginning that I had no problem paying the full price for the medication, since it was Sunday and everything was closed, I practically had no other option to obtain this crucial medication for my daughter's heart condition. It is precisely in these situations that one expects understanding and support from the professional. And if it weren't for the colleague with glasses and long hair who had to intervene and who was very kind, checking the prescription and dispensing the medication without any problem, charging me in full, just as I had said from the beginning, thanks to her, the difference in treatment between the two employees would have been obvious. In a pharmacy, you deal with patients and expect a solution and professionalism. The initial attitude I received from that brunette was very unpleasant and rude, and I also want to add that she told me she wouldn't sell me any more medication, as if she owned the place. It's regrettable... a shame they have that employee in such a good pharmacy. Best regards, I hope it gets resolved soon.
Nicolas Perales★☆☆☆☆
I went to this pharmacy with a prescription for six months' worth of medication, but they only dispensed three months' worth. When I returned, they told me that I couldn't request more than three months' worth, which contradicts the prescription and creates confusion between what the doctor said and what they claimed.
When I asked for the prescription back so I could request the rest of the medication later, the service was arrogant and unfriendly. Furthermore, they tried to give me only the patient information sheet instead of the actual prescription, which I consider an attempt to deceive me. Only after insisting did they finally return the correct prescription.
A very unpleasant and unprofessional experience. I will not return to this pharmacy.

The pharmacy is great. They have everything, the service is reasonably quick, and the staff is incredibly friendly. It's one of those pharmacies where you know that whatever you need, they'll be able to help. That said, they should put some kind of sticker or warning sign on the electric door, because it's completely transparent and you could easily bump into it without realizing it… especially if you're nearsighted and a bit distracted. Otherwise, it's fantastic.

Three days ago, I had a tiny diamond earring pierced at this pharmacy. They assured me I wouldn't have any problems because it was a completely sterile and painless procedure.
Yesterday, I went back to tell them it had been hurting since the first day. The pharmacist replied that it was INFECTED (without even looking at it or showing the slightest interest) and that the only thing she could do was SELL ME an ANTIBIOTIC ointment... The height of malpractice.

Yesterday I went to pick up my mother's medication, Buscopan. She had been prescribed the 10mg, 60-tablet pack (which is covered by insurance), but the pharmacist gave me the 10mg, 40-tablet pack without saying anything or giving any explanation. I bought it, left the pharmacy, and checked the prescription against it. I saw that they had given me the smaller quantity of tablets, which is therefore not covered by insurance. I went back to the pharmacy, and they told me that the 60-tablet pack was out of stock. I left without saying anything because I don't question what a professional tells me. Today I checked at another pharmacy, and they said it WASN'T out of stock and that I paid more than I should have for fewer tablets! I'm not going back, but I think it's very wrong that they gave me a different quantity without any explanation and made me pay more!

This afternoon my husband went to buy PECTOX, a mucolytic syrup containing carbocysteine, for us adults and our 3-year-old son. It's a syrup sold without a prescription (we've bought it before at other pharmacies without any problems).
Well, not only did they tell him that this syrup required a prescription (which it DOESN'T), but they also gave him another syrup, FLUIMICIL, which, while containing a similar compound (acetylcysteine), isn't exactly the same.
Furthermore, when my husband insisted that it was for all three of us (my three-year-old son was with him at the time), the staff assured him that it was safe for children to take…
Well… after reading the package insert, it turns out that this medication IS CONTRAINDICATED IN CHILDREN!!! It states this twice in the insert (photo attached).
In short: We were sold a lemon.

Horrible. I waited an hour for a Glovo delivery—some gauze and a bandage—and it turns out they couldn't sell it to me because "it requires a prescription." It requires a prescription when you want them subsidized, but otherwise, NO. We need to stop hiring pharmacists who DON'T understand what they're doing because it's DANGEROUS. This is a trivial matter, but if you get confused by this and are so stubborn as to not even check your mistake, you could get confused by anything more important and you wouldn't check anything then either. It's a disgrace.

A truly disappointing experience. I was driving home from the hospital after injuring my knee and went to the pharmacy with my prescriptions to pick up my medication. However, because the doctor mistakenly wrote the year "2025" instead of "2026," they refused to accept them, showing absolutely no flexibility, empathy, or willingness to help. They forced me to drive back to the hospital, a 20-minute drive away, just to correct something so simple.
After returning with the new, correctly signed prescriptions, they still created obstacles and refused to give me two of the medications because the doctor had used a different colored pen.
In short, the service was extremely cold, unsympathetic, and lacking in humanity, especially considering the situation. A deplorable service, far from what one would expect from a place that works with people's health. I won't use any more adjectives, or they won't publish my review…

I went to this 24-hour pharmacy in Zaragoza in an emergency to ask for generic clotrimazole vaginal suppositories, and after hesitating for a few seconds before answering, they told me it was only sold with a prescription. However, they directly offered me GineCanestén (much more expensive) without a prescription.
I've bought this same medication without a prescription at other pharmacies many times, so the information made me quite confused. Furthermore, the service was not at all friendly. I won't be going back.
Tips for Using Pharmacies in Zaragoza
Navigating healthcare in a foreign country, or even just a busy city, requires a little local knowledge. The pharmacy culture in Spain is slightly different from that of the UK or the US. To ensure you get exactly what you need without unnecessary stress, it helps to understand the protocols and etiquette expected when visiting these essential businesses.
Know the Generic Names: Spanish pharmacies often prioritize generic medications (genéricos). If you usually buy "Tylenol," the pharmacist will need to know you are looking for "Paracetamol." Similarly, "Advil" is "Ibuprofeno." Having the active ingredient written down on your phone will save time and prevent confusion, ensuring you get the correct dosage for your needs.
Ask for the "Farmacia de Guardia": If you find yourself needing medication late at night, do not wander the streets looking for a lit green cross. Every pharmacy door in the city posts a sign listing the nearest duty pharmacy for that specific day. You can also ask a local or check online for the current "Farmacia de Guardia en Zaragoza" to find the exact location open 24 hours.
Don’t Expect to Self-Serve: While some larger pharmacies have retail sections for cosmetics and baby food, all actual medication is kept behind the counter. You must interact with the pharmacist. Be prepared to describe your symptoms clearly. If you have a specific brand in mind, showing an empty box or a photo on your phone is the most effective way to communicate.
Utilize the Consultation Services: If you have a minor ailment—such as a mild rash, a cough, or an insect bite—you do not necessarily need to go to a hospital. The pharmacists in Zaragoza are trained to diagnose minor conditions and can legally dispense medication for them. This "mostrador" consultation is free and can save you hours of waiting in a public health clinic.
Keep Your Receipts and Boxes: If you are a visitor and have private travel insurance, you will likely need a receipt to claim back medical expenses.
