Nice has long been celebrated for its sun-drenched Promenade des Anglais, vibrant markets, and unmistakable Mediterranean charm. Yet beyond the Niçoise salad and socca stands, the city quietly holds its own as a serious destination for meat lovers.
While the Côte d’Azur is often associated with seafood, Nice’s steakhouse scene has evolved into something genuinely exciting, blending French butchery traditions with international grilling techniques. The local dining culture here is refreshingly unhurried.
A proper steak dinner in Nice is not a rushed affair but an evening built around conversation, good wine, and carefully sourced beef. Whether you are staying in the Old Town, near the port, or up in the Musicians’ Quarter, you are never far from a restaurant that treats a cut of meat with the respect it deserves.
French beef, particularly from breeds like Charolais, Limousine, and Aubrac, has a distinct flavor profile that differs from American or Argentine beef. It tends to be leaner, deeply mineral, and intensely beefy, often aged to develop tenderness. Many of Nice’s best steakhouses also import premium cuts from Spain, Italy, and occasionally the United States or Japan, giving diners a broad spectrum of textures and marbling.
The style of service varies widely across the city. Some venues lean into the classic French brasserie aesthetic with white tablecloths and polished silver, while others embrace a more contemporary, wood-fired, open-kitchen energy. What unites the top addresses is a commitment to precise cooking temperatures, proper resting, and sauces that enhance rather than mask the beef.
You should also consider the setting when choosing where to eat. A steak dinner in Nice can mean a candlelit table in a vaulted stone cellar, a breezy terrace overlooking the Mediterranean, or a lively bistro where the grill is the centerpiece of the room. Each atmosphere changes the experience, and the best choice often depends on whether you are celebrating, dining solo, or simply craving a perfectly cooked ribeye after a long day of sightseeing.
Below is a curated selection of the most reliable and memorable steakhouses in Nice. These restaurants have been chosen for their consistency, quality of sourcing, and ability to deliver a satisfying meal across different budgets and occasions.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. All the waiters were very polite, friendly, and attentive. The service was fast and excellent.
The medium-rare steak was delicious, tender, and melted in the mouth. The pasta portion was generous and very satisfying, with a lovely combination of vegetables, meat, and parmesan shavings that added great flavour.
Thank you to the whole team. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would happily return.
Cynthia.

One of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. We came back for 2nd time, the mix meat dish is huge! The taste is amazing! The creme brûlée is also one of the best I’ve ever tried.

This is lovely, and very cosy spot for great food and ambiance. Service is excellent, and the team here are very accommodating, big special thanks to Ellie and the staff who were attending and making sure we are well taken care of. I’d recommend the flower zucchini, and shrimps with smashed avocado. Highly recommended and def we will be back.

Meat and fish was great. Especially ramb and octopus. So flavorful and delicious.
We had an wonderful time, but the server didn’t do anything to justify a tip, yet still presented the tip options, which felt inappropriate. To make matters worse, the wine was completely flat and had lost all its aroma.

This place felt a bit touristy to me. In fact, the entire restaurant was filled with tourists, so I suspect it’s become somewhat of a hype spot.
When we arrived, both the indoor and outdoor areas were full. There were two tables outside with signs on them, which I assumed were reserved. We didn’t have a reservation, but we were seated inside after another group left. However, a couple who arrived after us was seated at one of the tables with the signs, and I overheard that they didn’t have a reservation either, which was a bit confusing.
The blond gentleman who served us was extremely kind, friendly, and welcoming. Honestly, he was probably the best part of the experience. Special thanks to him for his excellent service.
As for the food, we ordered the Premium Mixed Grill and requested our meat medium-well, but it arrived well-done. As a result, the meat was quite tough and difficult to chew. It was even hard to cut with a knife. To be honest, I’ve had much better steaks elsewhere in France.
Considering the price, I don’t think the meal offered good value for money, nor was it particularly memorable. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it certainly wasn’t a “wow” meal either. I wouldn’t choose to come back, and it’s not a place I would strongly recommend as a must-visit.
That said, thanks again to the blond gentleman for his kindness and hospitality.

Curtis Khan★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointing experience at Beef Grill. The steak arrived less than 5 minutes after ordering, which immediately raised concerns about freshness and quality. The meat was mostly fat, poorly prepared, and extremely overpriced for what we received.
The service was also terrible dirty dishes were piled everywhere on the counter, and the overall cleanliness and atmosphere were not acceptable.
I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Nice. Avoid this place.

Amazing place with a very beautiful view and a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious – we really enjoyed the chicken kebabs, rice, vegetables, and mojitos. Everything was incredibly tasty. The waiters were friendly and attentive, and the interior of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We had a wonderful experience and would definitely come back!

Don’t believe the luxurious Photos/Vibe of the “Restaurant”
They serve “Cocktails” without an Alcohol Licence so they are actually Mocktails
It took 40 minutes to be seated.
Another 45 minutes to be asked what we wanted to order, Yes 45 Minutes. This isn’t because the place was full as there were plenty of empty tables just awful service
Waiter that took our order couldn’t have been less interested & was more focused on other staff seating people in the right place
We saw 5, yes 5 different groups/couples leave once seated as the service was so so slow
The “Steaks” we ordered were overcooked and one inedible so was left after a couple of bites.
I repeat - Don’t believe the luxurious Photos/Vibe of the “Restaurant”. What a waste of an evening

So disappointed after hearing a good recommendation. Lovely atmosphere but the rib eye steaks had grizzle and very poor quality of beef. Our group was also so disappointed that there was no wine available. The side potato and vegetables were good but overall such a disappointment. While the overall ambience was lovely but the loud music was more suitable to a dance bar.

Yes, a level 8 Google foodie fell for these fake ratings. We went there a few weeks ago and hoped to enjoy a 4.7 rated restaurant. To make it short, please read all the reviews that posted more than 20 times on google maps:
I cannot agree more with all the points that others already pointed out, hence here is a summary:
Negativ:
- no bread. Other tables had bread and I had to ask them proactively after 30 min for some bread
- loud music: seriously, eating at this restaurant feels like eating at a nightclub. I really don’t understand
- beef quality: medium to this restaurant is kinda full on rare. Not only was the meat quality bad but also uneditable. Please refer to the pics.
- toilet was sooo dirty and had no toilet seats
- we waited over 1 hour for our food while the restaurant was empty.
- no alcohol license
Positiv:
-staff was friendly and tried their best. Hence no complains here.
It seems like the place for lots of good ratings so we might have ordered the wrong food. Many people ordered the burger so maybe that’s their signature dish. But honestly, I never had the feeling of leaving a restaurant so badly.

Ive had one of the best steaks in yearssss. Well aged steak with gorgeous smokiness and perfect grilling ahhh i wish I had more space in my stomach. The chef is so amazing and the place has good vibes especially indoor seats. Make sure you order potatoes for the side as it’s the best potatoes ive tried as someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy potatoes.
Andrea Sanchez★☆☆☆☆
The meat was 50% fat and service was too busy to accommodate basic requests. We asked the server to add au poivre to our order but only received bad attitude. The restaurant and surrounding air is filled with smoke, not as quaint as it may seem. It’s just a guy in a poorly ventilated kitchen with a store bought (green egg) grill. I’ve had better steak and service at Outback.

To all our dear vegetarian and tourists friends, we live next door, in Vieux Nice. This is the very best MEAT restaurant in Vieux Nice. The chef is amazing. Even though we live next door, we will never allow ourselves to just show up and seat anywhere just like that. We always try to book in advance. We respect their work. We respect the fact that they cannot always have everything on the menu. This is the price to get the best of the best.
Now, if one is vegetarian, do not go to a restaurant that is literally called the Atelier of the CARNIVORE.
We do have amazing, friendly restaurants for everyone all over Nice.
Welcome to Nissa la Bella.

The portions are huge and the dishes are well balanced. However when I had medium it was still a tad tough. And the frites were a little bit burnt.
The steak salad was definitely the standout though the flavours were quite unique. Just disappointed in the main la planxa steak. Was a bit much after awhile.

The food was extremely delicious and very satisfying. Each dish was served with fried potatoes, a fresh salad, and a complementary sauce, which made the meal even more enjoyable. The portions were generous and truly filling, offering excellent value for money. In addition, the prices were very reasonable for the quality provided. The location is also convenient and easy to reach, making it a great choice overall.
David Chomistek★★★☆☆
If you like a big portion then this place is for you. However, I wouldn't say everything on the dish is going to wow you.
I got the skewers and both the beef and chicken were pretty tough and chewy. My fries were also good but many were on the verge of being raw and due to us being placed outside everything got cold very quickly.
Note, the whole menu is online in English with pictures which are much nicer to help make your selection.

Best quality/price ratio
I went there out of curiosity to see how it is but I ended up eating everyday for the duration of my holiday and the meal was so large that I had no need to eat anything else.
Is not the best steak I ever had but is good and on that quantity and price it is actually amazing.
Will be my to go place for any future visits in Nice.
Staff is also great.

Unfortunately, this felt like a tourist trap. The portions are very generous, so it might be a good option if you’re extremely hungry, but we found the meat quite disappointing in terms of taste and quality. Overall, the experience didn’t live up to our expectations.

One of the absolute best steak restaurants ive ever been to and ive been to many. The atmosphere was amazing, service was incredible and my steak was out of this world. Absolutely loved the fire 🔥 place and the rusty look of the place. 100% recommend.
Amreek Jutley★★★★★
Steaks cooked over an open fire in the restaurant, perfect barking, good range of different cuts from grade 5 Wagyu to USD Tomahawks, it's quite a skill to cook steaks over an open fire, and still keep them rare, medium rare etc. Straight forward sides, smoked baked potatoes and salad, don't need anything else when the meat tastes so good! Great calm atmosphere in a scenic setting...did I mention the home made desserts, save some space if you can. Make sure you book in advance as they are usually full every evening. Check them out
INDIRA RUIZ★★☆☆☆
Beautiful setting and a restaurant with a long history, but unfortunately the food did not live up to its reputation. There is a sense that many things are done simply because “they have always been done this way”, and while tradition can be charming, it does not automatically mean excellence. The dishes felt somewhat outdated rather than timeless, lacking the creativity, refinement and attention to flavor one would expect from a restaurant with such a reputation. In the end, we left with the feeling that this is a place that perhaps lives more on its history than on the quality of the experience it offers today.
Ira Solehan★★★★★
Amazing place for steaks! We ordered 3 wagyu steaks for 3 people, but actually it was a lot, especially since we had two starters to share as well. So we ended up taking some home as we weren't able to finish it. Highly recommend! Unless you're a huge meat eater, I would recommend sharing as the steaks are 400gm each.
Ross Jaffray★★★★★
Well worth making the trip up the hill for.
Beautifully cooked T-bone steak and baked Camembert to start, washed down with a lovely bottle of Bordeaux red.
Would recommend a seat inside to take the atmosphere of the steaks being cooked on the grill.

Best restaurant I’ve eaten at in France. The food was incredible, especially the meat — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The service was exceptionally good as well. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and an overall amazing experience. Highly recommended. (Also, the girl singing live was amazing — she had a beautiful voice and added so much to the atmosphere.)

Gloomy atmosphere with bad decor (toilet tiles all around 😖), bad lighting and filthy toilets. Atmosphere of a canteen in a poor neighbourhood.
Badly trained staff who just do the bare minimum.
The food was not as good as we expected. Waffles and chicken tenders were soft and moist (not crispy as they should be). Real meat in a burger was tasty, but some people would surely prefer ground beef. No alcohol (this place is alcohol free) with grilled meat is also a preference of minority in Nice. We surely craved a beer.

We went for brunch and they tried to scam us. At the moment of paying they charged us more. I wouldn’t have noticed if i hadn’t remember the prices i saw in the menu. When i pointed it out the guy said the menu wasn’t up to date, but he didn’t warn us in advance. After complaining he gave us the change and said “a gift” as if he was doing us a favour or giving us some kind of charity. Also, plates were really small and took around 40 min to come. Nutella wasn’t even Nutella, it is not that complicated to write “hazelnut cream” in the menu instead of a brand’s name. Orange juice was super watery and 7 euro for a glass is not worthy at all (in the menu said 5 euros, tho).
Tom★★☆☆☆
Very overpriced, poor quality food.
Two of us ordered a dish that came with “unlimited sides”, but only one set of sides came out, and the sides were cold. The rib eye steak was very thin, they needed to serve two pieces to make up the 300g; it was ordered rare, but came out well done.
It felt like they were in a rush to get people in and out - it had barely been a minute after the food arrived, and they were already trying to take the big plate away, despite there still very clearly being food on it. The moment we stopped eating, they came and took the plates away and wiped down the table.
They played a very random, mismatched collection of cover music that was way too loud, which meant people had to talk really loudly to be heard over it.
You have to go up to the counter to pay at the end, but we were ignored by multiple wait staff before anyone came to take our payment.
The venue itself (including the bathroom) was very aesthetically pleasing - would make a great cocktail bar, but they don’t serve alcohol.

One of the best steaks I ever had!
Got the Tomahawk for 2 which was huge but we devoured it. Melted in our mouth and delicious. A huge hit

Honestly, the food we had at this restaurant could compete with fine steakhouses we have had around the world.
Unassuming, almost overlooked as not as busy as other restaurants in nice however the food is not to be missed.
We had a tomahawk and a fillet - cooked to perfection. Shared a gorgeous bottle of red wine, a local that was priced perfectly.
Le petit palais is not one to be missed.
If I could make one recommendation- dim the lights and have a better choice of music. But other than that magnifique

My fiance and I visited during our trip in October. He loved the food so much, we went for dinner two nights in a row! We don’t speak french at all but they were very accommodating for us! Fyi, we could not get cell service inside so if you need to look up the menu online for what you want, do so before going inside (i think most of the restaurants we went to were like that though).
The first night we ordered the prime rib for 2 (medium rare), american fries & the mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly & so delicious. We went for a 9:30pm reservation on a saturday night, so we did wait a bit for service and our food which is totally expected since they were so busy.
The second night, the staff recognized us from the night before and gladly welcomed us in. The waiter could tell we had some difficulty choosing what to eat (especially bc we couldnt look up the menu) and showed the restaurant’s instagram and made recommendations. We really appreciated his help and how nice his service was. We ordered their short rib which they explained they only serve on weekends, along with the baked potatoes and american fries. We also ordered the shallot sauce on the side, as well as the burrata salad. All of the food was really good! A part of me wishes we ordered the tbone steak (because it looks SO good in other reviews) but the short rib was very delicious.
I recommend making reservations, I used a service called “TheFork” to book our table the day of.
I’m definitely adding this restaurant to our revisit list! 🙂

We had a wonderful dining experience at Le Petite Beef Bar in Nice. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, stylish, and welcoming, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed evening.
The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish beautifully presented and full of flavour. The quality of the ingredients and attention to detail really stood out, making the meal a memorable one from start to finish.
A special mention goes to Alicia, who was a lovely waitress throughout our visit. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome, adding a personal touch that enhanced the entire experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the ambience, and it’s easy to see why this restaurant is so highly regarded. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Nice and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic meal in a great atmosphere.

I got the steak frites with the peppercorn sauce and it was super good, but I have never had such bad service at a restaurant.
The servers did not take the order of these 2 girls for 45 minutes but had taken the order of a couple who was sat after me, and then took my order before the two girls sat before me (they ended up leaving). I had also requested a glass of wine 3 times, had a wine glass put in front of me and then removed before I managed to flag down manager who got me my wine after the 4th time asking. One of the servers had even taken my bread and olive oil from me while I was actively eating it to put my entree down… I have never had that happen at a restaurant. When it came to the bill, I had asked for it 3 times again before the manager came and helped me.
While I understand if the servers is still learning and understand the industry can be difficult, please work on this for future patrons. Your servers should really have designated tables that they are responsible for serving to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Nicely decorated place but the music choice was all over the place from pop to classical so the mood was not quite right. We sat by the window and attached to the curtain were a few flies which was off putting. The service was really good as they felt premium and attentive. The food itself was not bad and came in reasonable time.
Emma Burns★★☆☆☆
I had read mixed reviews but decided to give this restaurant a chance. I wish I hadn’t. Bad on all fronts really. The service was bad. They removed food plates before we had finished without asking, they would be mid conversation with us and then walk off and then tried to force us to leave a tip when a 15% service is already legally included in France.
The food was very mid and not worth the money, we got a starter to share which wasn’t too bad and steak frites for main. The total meal came to €100, felt more like a €50 meal when you factor in the poor service.
There are much better places to eat in Nice with a more welcoming atmosphere! Would not recommended!!

The best restaurant I found in Nice. If you go, you must try their filet with peppercorn sauce! Only complaints would be the cocktail menu is a bit small, and their checkout system prompts you for a percentage based tip like in the US.

Absolutely incredible dining experience at this Argentinian gem in Nice! We started with the empanadas and ceviche. Both were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The empanadas were one of my favorite parts of the meal.
For the mains, we had the Argentinian picaña and the faux-fillet, and both were cooked to perfection. The quality of the meat was outstanding. The meats were tender, juicy, and packed with flavor.
What made the evening even more special was the exceptional hospitality from the owner, Gaspar. His attention to detail, warmth, and genuine care for every guest created such a welcoming atmosphere. He made us feel completely at home and elevated the entire experience.

Found this place with a lot of conflicting reviews on google but still decided to give it a try because it’s in a very great location with A/C. However, I’m extremely disappointed. The service was terrible, our host was giving us an attitude all day. And the food, nothing special at all. The steak was not in any way tender. I ordered the special for Wednesday thinking it was a burger but it’s literally just a meat patty (can say this is my fault). I think only the gnocchi and salad appetizers I had tasted acceptable here. Please if you want steak, do not come here. But overall, I was way more bothered with the attitude of the server. If they were nice, I wouldn’t mind about the food since it is a tourist spot. One good thing is they give our free chips, but they are not good also. The restaurant is huge with a lot of seatings though.
I would not come back here next time I’m in town.

We had a great meal at Hippopotamus Steakhouse in Nice. The steaks were cooked well, the portions were generous, and the menu offered plenty of options for the whole family. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the city, making it a convenient stop after sightseeing. Service was friendly and efficient, and the overall atmosphere was lively and welcoming. A reliable choice for a satisfying steak dinner in Nice.

A very nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy a delicious steak. The stuff is really attentive and the general vibe is very positive. I had to go there the next day as well since i wanted to try other dishes as well. I would really recommend 👌 😄

Delicious steak frites. Recommended medium rare for the steak. The hippo sauce was quite unique, the black pepper and bernaise were also good. Do try the egg mayonnaise starter and the panna cotta at the end for dessert. Worth it! Would recommend if you are near Massena.

The worst service we’ve had since being in France, well the only bad service to be correct. Over 10 mins to order a drink, the waitress, apart from taking our order and dropping off food, the staff didn’t come back to our table. How staff like this can have a job in customer service is mind blowing!
Essential Tips for Choosing the Right Steakhouse in Nice
Before you make a reservation, it helps to understand a few local nuances that can shape your experience. From how to order your steak to when you should book, these practical tips will help you avoid common mistakes and get the most out of your evening.
1). Know your French cooking terms
In France, “bleu” means essentially raw in the center, “saignant” is rare, “à point” is medium-rare to medium, and “bien cuit” is well done. If you prefer a true medium-rare, order “à point” rather than “saignant,” which many visitors find too underdone for their taste.
2). Ask about the beef’s origin
The best steakhouses in Nice are transparent about where their meat comes from. Whether it is French Aubrac, Spanish Galician blonde, or Italian Fassona, the origin tells you a lot about texture and flavor. Do not hesitate to ask your server for a recommendation based on your preference for lean or marbled cuts.
3). Consider the sauce culture
French steakhouse sauces are often richer and more complex than what you might be used to. Béarnaise, peppercorn, and Roquefort sauces are common, but some restaurants also serve a simple jus or flavored butter. If you want to taste the pure quality of the beef, ask for the sauce on the side.
4). Book ahead, especially on weekends
Nice is a year-round tourist destination, and the most popular steakhouses fill up quickly from Thursday through Saturday. Even in the off-season, a same-day walk-in at a top address can be risky. A quick phone call or online reservation takes minutes and saves disappointment.
5). Look beyond the classic cuts
While a ribeye or filet is always satisfying, many Nice steakhouses excel at lesser-known cuts like onglet, bavette, or côte de bœuf meant for sharing. These often deliver more character and value, especially when sourced from mature, grass-fed French cattle.
6). Pair wine thoughtfully
The Côte d’Azur is not a major red wine region, but nearby Provence and the Rhône Valley produce excellent options. A Côtes-du-Rhône, Bandol, or Corbières often pairs beautifully with grilled beef and is usually priced more fairly on local lists than imported bottles.
A great steakhouse experience in Nice is about more than just the meat on your plate. It is the warmth of the welcome, the rhythm of the service, and the way the kitchen respects the product. When all those elements align, a simple dinner becomes one of the most memorable meals of your trip.
Whether you are a devoted carnivore or simply looking for one exceptional meal during your stay on the French Riviera, the city’s steakhouse scene rewards those who take the time to explore it. Choose a restaurant that matches your mood, order with confidence, and let the evening unfold at its own pace.
