Finding the right place to stay in Santiago de Compostela is about more than just securing a bed for the night. It is about choosing the final chapter of your pilgrimage or the perfect base for a Galician city break. The area surrounding the iconic Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is the beating heart of the city, a labyrinth of granite alleyways, bustling plazas, and historic arcades.
Staying near the Praza do Obradoiro means you are steps away from witnessing the daily arrival of pilgrims, the swinging of the Botafumeiro, and the vibrant energy of the local tapas bars. However, the historic center is compact, and the character of accommodation changes drastically from street to street. Some areas offer serene monastic silence, while others pulse with nightlife until the early hours.
This guide focuses on properties that offer exceptional access to the Cathedral while providing distinct experiences tailored to different types of travelers. Whether you are a weary pilgrim seeking luxury, a history buff wanting to sleep within ancient walls, or a foodie looking for culinary convenience, there is a perfect spot for you.
We have analyzed location, historical significance, service quality, and value to bring you a curated list of the finest places to stay. These selections prioritize not just proximity, but also the quality of the sleep experience, which is vital in a city of church bells and cobblestones.
Because the area around the Cathedral is a protected historical zone, many of these hotels are housed in converted convents, manor houses, and medieval hospitals. This means you often trade sprawling modern lobbies for intimate courtyards, stone staircases, and truly unique architectural details.
Choosing the right neighborhood within the old town is crucial. The streets directly adjacent to the Cathedral offer unbeatable views but can be steep and noisy with tourist foot traffic. Meanwhile, the side streets leading toward the Alameda Park offer a slightly quieter, more residential feel while remaining within a five-minute walk.
Below, we break down the top choices for your stay, ensuring you can make an informed decision that enhances your visit to this spiritual and cultural capital.

Service: the maids and security guards were nice and helpful. The breakfast and dinner restaurant staff were also great. But the hotel reception staff behind the desk, and bar staff were a bit cold and dismissive, and not inclined to help. I believe they deliberately ignored me when I tried to ask them questions or order a drink.
Rooms were very nice, but one more water bottle would have been appreciated. And more signage to indicate how to get to the rooms would be nice. We had to walk a long way to get to the rooms because there was the only route shown on the signs. But there was a much shorter route that had no signage or indication.
Location was amazing. This is inside an old castle and it’s awesome to see the old corridors and courtyards.

Worth the efforts and trouble to get a room reservation, it was a very unique experience staying here. The hotel was renovated from the very first hospital in Santiago, nicely renovated and decorated, everything functions well and smoothly. Oh and the key is surprisingly quite weighty, unlike any other hotel keys.
The cathedral is just outside of the hotel. For everyone that just finished Camino de Santiago, staying here is like a perfect place to wind down. From the window, you can get an exclusive, calm view of the side of cathedral.
The only thing is that the cathedral ring bells every 15 seconds, so if you are someone sensitive to sound during sleep, you may want to consider put on earplugs.

We stayed here for three nights after doing the Camino Portuguese. The facilities and location were top notch! However: Breakfast left much to be desired. If you want hot food, you have to order it. Not even boiled eggs! And the receptionist during the night was quite rude. We can’t help but compare with the Paradores in Pontevedra where staff was very kind and helpful and friendly/polite.

Amazing hotel. Lots of history. Immaculately clean. Attentive staff. Rooms lovely. Excellent breakfast. Great location. Would highly recommend .

Wonderful Parador and in a unique location in the same square as the cathedral. You can see all the perrigrinos arriving in the square. Rooms were very spacious and quiet, sheets perfect and bed so comfy. We had a wonderful breakfast and even though it was timed for 45 minute slots we were at 9 am and not rushed out at all at 10.15( perhaps just being April not high season) . We also had a lovely dinner at the restaurant in the beautiful vaulted stone basement ( perhaps Stables in a former life ?) with a bottle of Spanish Cava.

We had a good stay at Hotel Puerta de Bilbao. The family room was spacious, but the sofa bed for our children, aged 10 and 12, was hardly big enough.
The breakfast was okay, and the hotel is nice overall.
One thing that could be improved is the pool area. Some of the sun loungers were already reserved with towels before 10 a.m., making them unavailable for other guests. A clearer policy on reserving pool chairs would make the experience fairer for everyone. Dinner at the restaurant is good and enjoyable!
The bathroom layout could be improved. The toilet and bidet are placed very close together, with little space next to the washbasin. The toilet paper dispenser is also not very practical to use.
Overall, it’s a nice hotel, and we enjoyed our stay.

Hotel Puerta de Bilbao is a large hotel that works well if you're visiting the exhibition hall. It's a fair walk from the metro station, but I didn't mind. The staff are exceptionally friendly, especially at the bar & restaurant where I enjoyed reading and relaxing in the spacious setting. The restaurant is really good and you can observe them while they cook. Rooms are generously sized with a desk and sofa, though they're a bit dated. The bathroom had some issues, water leaked from my shower and I had to cover the floor in advance with towels. However, the excellent service and truly outstanding breakfast more than make up for it. The scale and access are impressive. The pool was closed during my visit (end of May), but it opens in June and is quite small anyway. Worth considering if you prioritize space, service, and a great breakfast over the newest furnishings. Recommended!

As long-time Marriott Ambassadors, we rarely step outside our usual circle of hotels—but this stay at Puerto de Bilbao Hotel proved well worth it. We chose the property for its easy access to the ferry port and the security of its underground parking, and it delivered exactly what we needed.
Our suite was warm, comfortable, and well equipped for an overnight stop. Simple, but spot on.
We also tried the tasting menu in the restaurant, and at €42—including wine, water, and coffee—it was outstanding value. Breakfast the following morning was just as impressive.
And a special thank-you to Alfonso, who went out of his way to secure the very last table for lunch. That kind of service makes a difference.
A great choice for anyone passing through Bilbao.

Eurostars Al-Andalus Palace was one of the best value-for-money hotels we stayed at during our trip to Spain. Located in the peaceful Heliopolis district of Seville, the hotel offers a comfortable stay away from the busiest tourist crowds while still being well connected to the city’s main attractions. Places like Plaza de España, María Luisa Park, and the historic centre are easily accessible by taxi, bus, or a pleasant walk for those who enjoy exploring.
The hotel itself has an elegant, spacious feel from the moment you walk into the lobby. The rooms were modern, spotless, and surprisingly spacious, especially considering the price. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was well equipped, and everything felt clean and well maintained. It had all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay after long days of sightseeing.
One of the biggest highlights was undoubtedly the breakfast. The buffet spread was extensive, offering a fantastic selection of fresh fruits, pastries, breads, cheeses, cold cuts, hot dishes, eggs, cereals, juices, coffee, and plenty of local Spanish options. Whether you prefer a light breakfast or a hearty one before heading out to explore Seville, there is something for everyone. The quality of the food was excellent, and everything was replenished regularly despite the busy breakfast hours.
We also had dinner at one of the hotel’s restaurants, where we ordered pizza along with a bottle of wine. Both were surprisingly good and made for a lovely, relaxed evening after a full day of sightseeing. What made the experience even more memorable was the bartender, who was incredibly enthusiastic when we asked about the different types of Spanish wines. He happily explained the differences between the varieties, recommended options based on our preferences, and genuinely seemed passionate about what he was serving. Those kinds of interactions really elevate a stay and make guests feel welcome.
The staff throughout the hotel were professional, friendly, and always willing to help. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the service consistently felt warm and efficient.
The hotel also offers excellent facilities, including beautifully maintained gardens, an outdoor swimming pool during the warmer months, spacious lounges, conference facilities, and convenient on-site parking, making it suitable for both leisure and business travellers.
Overall, Eurostars Al-Andalus Palace exceeded our expectations. Comfortable rooms, excellent food, outstanding breakfast, friendly staff, and great value for money made it one of the most enjoyable hotel stays of our Spain trip. If you’re visiting Seville and looking for a quality hotel that offers comfort without the premium price tag of the city centre, this is an excellent choice. I would happily stay here again on my next visit.
Chelsea Wilson★★★★☆
This hotel has everything you need and offered great facilities. Overall it is very dated, the entire place needs to be remodelled and the hairdryers in the bathroom look to be older than me.
The pool is superb and the breakfast buffet was great. You can walk to Seville city centre from here it’s roughly 30min or the bus is pretty easy to use. There isn’t much around the hotel though.
The staff were nice and the rooms were serviced each day. I just think it wasn’t the wow factor it perhaps looks to give.
Louise★★★★☆
A huge sprawling hotel which in some ways was overwhelming. Our room was comfortable and large however, the large cavernous areas echo the slightest sound and consequently the hotel is noisy.
We could not get the safe to work in our room and the fridge was also not working. We reported both issues but neither was ever resolved and the staff did not seem interested or bothered.
The lady on the tourist desk, however, was very helpful and gave us information on transport options in the city.
The hotel is located a little way out of the city but regular buses run close by and we never felt this to be a problem.
Peter Gabik★★★★★
Nice hotel, and I really enjoyed my stay.
It is a large and modern hotel with several cafeterias and plenty of space for meetings with clients. The reception staff were helpful, and everything felt well organized.
The breakfast was excellent, and I also enjoyed the lunch. Overall, I had a great time here.
The main downside is the location. It is quite far from the city center, so you will probably need an Uber or taxi most of the time.
Another small issue was check-in. When several guests arrived at the same time, the waiting time became noticeable. In my case it was around 10 minutes, which was not dramatic, but it could be improved.
One practical tip: my taxi from the airport to the hotel had a fixed price of 26€, while the trip back from the hotel to the airport cost 31€.
Overall, a very good hotel that I would gladly stay at again.

We stayed in Eurostars mid of April. We had not much expectations from the hotel due to its age and ratings on Google maps. And since we stayed in many Eurostars hotels in Spain, we choose it again.
But I want to highlight a absolute difference from the rest of hotels - it's people and their attitude. Here working most kind and empático people I ever met. All the customer service and simple staff in restaurant are welcoming, smiley, ready to help, to guide, to care at night or daytime.
Especially I would like to highlight the work of Isabel. (I hope I found the name of correct person) She worked on 10th of April 2026 first part of the day. She is amazing, she made her best to resolve my issue, was absolutely professional and polite and empático. Thank you, Isabel!
I recommend the hotel because of superb location and it's people working there. We will be back at Eurostars.

Nice rooms, friendly staff but I found my bed very uncomfortable and was disappointed at all the water I wasted waiting for hot water in the shower. At least five minutes worth. This is a very nice small boutique hotel in an amazing location. The main problem with this place is the staff. The redhead gentlemen was very helpful and kind. The restaurant staff need to be replaced. The younger gentlemen is very rude. We sat and witnessed him and a young lady waitress get into an argument in front of everyone. Not professional. When we asked her where we could sit, she told us anywhere we'd like. So we sat in the main room. Then the young fella came over and told us we had to move to the side room cause those tables were reserved for 4 people. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant.
The location is perfectly placed in the middle of everything tourists wish to visit. The rooms were quaint and sufficed.

This must surely be one of Europe's finest old Grand Hotels. It has a fascinating history and a fabulous interior.
We went for lunch and sat at first outside in the central courtyard which is open air and very well shaded.
Our lunch was served inside because it was cooler.
The hotel has a very cool and calm atmosphere, the perfect escape from a hot and busy city and if you like Grand old hotels then this is the perfect place to spend an hour or two and have lunch and experience some superb service.
It's lovely.

Hotel Alfonso XIII is everything you would hope a true five-star Luxury Collection hotel would be.
From the moment we arrived until our departure, the level of hospitality was exceptional. Every interaction with the team was warm, genuine, professional, and attentive. It is evident that customer service is a priority throughout the hotel, and every member of the staff contributed to making our stay memorable.
The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. The historic architecture is beautifully maintained, the public spaces are immaculate, and the overall condition of the property reflects the standards expected of an iconic luxury hotel.
Our room was elegant, impeccably maintained, and incredibly comfortable. The bed provided one of the best nights of sleep we have had while traveling, making it the perfect place to relax after exploring Seville.
The location simply could not be better. Nearly all of Seville's most iconic attractions are within easy walking distance, making it an ideal base for experiencing the city.
I also want to recognize the management team for their outstanding communication before our arrival. Their professionalism and genuine commitment to ensuring a wonderful experience gave us confidence before we even checked in, and they delivered on every promise.
Thank you to the entire team for making my birthday celebration so memorable. We left with wonderful memories and would gladly return on our next visit to Seville.
Anna S★☆☆☆☆
The hotel itself is beautiful and definitely looks worthy of its 5-star rating. The rooms and overall appearance are impressive, and the breakfast offers a good selection of tasty food.
Unfortunately, there were several issues that made our stay disappointing. The breakfast area is not very cozy, and every morning there was a long queue to get seated, which is not what you would expect from a luxury hotel.
The biggest disappointment was the service. For a 5-star hotel, it was well below expectations. There was only one friendly lady at check-in; most of the other staff members came across as arrogant and unfriendly. I don’t expect staff to be overly cheerful, but a simple smile and a welcoming attitude would make guests feel much more appreciated.
What upset us most was that the housekeeping team apparently lost my daughter’s teddy bear, worth approximately €150. We were repeatedly told that they would look for it, but nothing seemed to happen. I had to return to the reception desk three separate times, each time waiting a long time for assistance. Eventually, I asked for a solution, but since then the hotel has completely stopped responding. They do not reply to emails and have provided no update whatsoever.
It is very disappointing because the hotel has great facilities and looks stunning, but good service is what truly makes a hotel experience. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a warm, personal, and guest-focused stay.

Hotel Alfonso XIII was absolutely beautiful and truly a five-star experience. The architecture, décor, and atmosphere are breathtaking, and the service was warm, professional, and attentive.
We also visited the boutique inside the hotel and purchased a gorgeous watch, which made our experience even more memorable. The boutique had beautiful pieces and was a wonderful addition to our visit.
Everything about Hotel Alfonso XIII feels elegant, luxurious, and special. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in Seville and a place we would highly recommend!

Don't go if you're a tourist.
At most, stay here if you're walking the Camino de Santiago or plan to get up early, as you won't be able to rest after 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning. The hotel is old and unpretentious. The walls let in all the noise: we woke up startled at 8:00 a.m. (after a very good dinner at Don Nacho, by the way) thinking water was dripping into the room; it wasn't, it was the deafening noise from the shower upstairs, which, besides waking us up, prevented us from resting before a day in Las Médulas. Overall, it could be cleaner, especially the bathroom.
The hotel staff is very friendly. Good views of the entire Villafranca square. The Wi-Fi works well. The room was at a good temperature, with a radiator and blankets. The mattresses are new and comfortable. The rest of the room and the hotel need updating (quite a few broken tiles in the bathroom).

This is an absolute gem of a hotel, the building itself is incredibly well maintained and the room we had in the "dungeon" was very cozy and comfortable. We slept so well.
We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the menu was varied, with options for half racions, so you can try more things. The food was delicious, and the care that was taken in preparing it, as well as the quality of the ingredients, really shone through. I wish I had space to try more dishes.
The final flourish was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had anywhere in Spain, from the different bread options, to freshly baked pastries, different meats and cheeses, fresh fruits and yogurt, as well as hot dishes, jams and honey...I could go on and on. It was amazing.
The staff are helpful and welcoming, the setting has a surreal aspect that is wonderful. It was a privilege to stay there and we hope to return.

Edited: Thanks to the incredibly kind and understanding reply from the hotel, I have changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. I hope they will truly make the changes so that pet owners can also enjoy the standards other guests do!
Original review: Definitely NOT 4 star hotel standard!
It has taken me a while to post this review because I really wanted to include everything in it. We stayed at the Buen Amor for one night and honestly, if we hadn’t arrived later than expected due to illness, we would have left as soon as we arrived, to search for somewhere acceptable. The one only redeeming feature was the dinner, which was excellent and the breakfast had good variety too, although a lot of items were covered in flies. Here is the list of issues we faced as soon as we arrived:
- Room damp/mould smell.
- Black mould and infiltration obviously visible in many places.
- Dust/pollen mountains in entrance of the room.
- Every single towel humid/damp to touch.
- Shower full of hair from previous guest.
- Barely any plugs other than for the lights already plugged in.
- Every footstep above the room can be heard like the ceiling is made out of plaster - unexpected when the walls seem so thick.
- When we asked if we could change rooms due to the unbearable smell, we were told we would be charged if we move to a “suite” which smelled and looked exactly the same. Saw three other dungeon rooms - all with the same issue.
- These rooms are a health hazard and should not be used, at least not in their current state!
- Not truly dog friendly. Dogs not allowed in restaurant, only the “cafe” but the cafe is outside, so that’s misleading. It’s ok for some but not for others who become mosquito feasts eating outside in the evening.
- Only these “dungeon” rooms are “dog friendly”, or, apparently two rooms on the ground floor, which the employee claimed were booked. I’m not sure which rooms those are, as we were told when booking, that dogs are only allowed in these dungeon rooms.
- Dog bed and items “provided” were old, knackered and looked dirty. I would never let my dog sleep on it or touch any of it. Having a dog does not equal having no cleanliness standard, in fact we are pretty OCD with cleanliness.
- White long dog hairs from previous guests all over the floor - ours is black with short fur, so it was obvious they did not come from our dog.
- I had to ask for someone to help with our bags (I saw a trolley outside so thought it was something they offered). The woman at reception looked at me with big eyes and said with the least enthusiasm “if you need help, well I can help you”. Then the lovely British girl who was helping out for the summer, immediately and assertively said she will help. Had a great chat with her too! I would like to thank her for showing such kindness.
- Constant low humming noise all night, very irritating in the silence. Stays on for 10mins or so, then goes off again and then back on. Not sure if it’s some sort of heat pump or smth located near the room, but it’s not pleasant at all.
- Although aircon helped with the smell, we couldn’t keep it on at night because it was so loud due to being extremely old. I do not want to know when it was last checked or cleaned!
- The restaurant was good, although service not the friendliest or warmest with us. Different entirely towards the Spanish speakers dining there that evening.
- There’s a road next to the window of the room where a truck passes at 7am??! Noisy when you have your window open to get some form of fresh air.
- Your reply to other reviewers stating there’s mould in the rooms, is to “assure them there isn’t any”. Well I have photographed it all. This is mould - as someone with asthmatic family members, I know what mould looks and smells like. The rooms are a health hazard and should be closed down.
See all my photos.

We had the most relaxing time at this boutique hotel. Much nicer than 2 stars, and with so much heart - the owners clearly love what they do, and this makes it an amazing place to stay. We were worried about being out from Llanes, but both agreed it was the best decision we could have made - as it was wonderful to have a quiet retreat away from the crowd (and the town isn't nearly as nice as the mountains). Breakfast was delicious, beds were super comfy and you had everything you needed for a great stay. We were also given great tips about nearby beaches and the area in general. Highly recommended and we will be back.

It was a pleasure to stay at this hotel. I wanted to thank Cristina and José Alberto for their kindness and for treating us so well. They and their hotel have a special charm.
We stayed there for four nights, enjoying a spectacular breakfast—everything was delicious and healthy. It's a peaceful place, with only the sounds of birds, cowbells, and little else. I loved the complimentary notebook, or rather the phrases on the cover, as well as the chocolates and drinks as a welcome gift. Thanks also to Marianny for her kindness and the impeccable cleanliness; every day we found everything spotless.
I would definitely return! THANK YOU!

Very beautiful location in the middle of nature, a ten-minute drive from Llanes. Reception was fine, limited English, but manageable. We chose a ground-floor room but it was still a disappointment. Quite dark, musty, damp, damp... which you can also see on the furniture due to rising damp. When opening drawers, the musty smell hits you, so everything stayed in the suitcase. No fan in the bathroom, no air conditioning. That isn't the intention for a 2* hotel, but for the price we had expected more. Breakfast is a small buffet, nothing special. Given the location relative to the center, you can't expect anything else: breakfast at 15 euros per person. Local products... artisanal... yes... a bit of ham, cheese, jam, an egg... everything very simple and very limited for this price. It was taken over a few months ago from the Belgian owners Didier and his wife, but the Montemar group from Llanes has probably taken the opportunity to adjust the prices. The location, the tranquility, the view, and the hospitality are superb, but the rooms need an upgrade. When you cannot use the wardrobes and drawers in the room due to the dampness and the smell… and there is no air conditioning or fan. When it got even slightly warm, there was no other option than to open the patio door and the room door to create a draft.
Addition to owner's comment: it was not a heatwave; on the contrary, it was cloudy the entire time and around 22 degrees. We could not use the wardrobes and drawers due to the humidity in the room. So, there was certainly no smell of hay or anything like that possible. Breakfast: poor and expensive. We even found mold on one of the jars of jam.

Upon entering, we had a little demand for a reservation because my sister and I made a reservation through Booking, however, I had it, cash was not removed from the card, but of course the ladies working at the reception were so kind to our problem and automatically gave us a link through which we can make the transaction immediately and they were so calm and attentive so it went perfectly, stress free. After that we had a weather situation that was unexpected, it started to rain, so the guys from the reception again gave us an umbrella, which is a very big plus. They were there for every question I had to answer so kindly and with a feeling of complete ease. For the food we bought, we needed a utensil (fork), we got it right away. The rooms were impeccably clean and communication with the maids was at an excellent level (via cards attached to the door). They met everything. The sofas at the reception desk are as comfortable as the beds, big kudos to the man who designed the interior. We almost fell asleep how comfortable it was. 😂
The service stands on the sidelines and takes great care to replenish everything that is missing, one person is engaged for that and non-stop brings either candies or lemonade or water depending on what is missing. Breakfast was rich every morning, nothing was missing, which usually happens when it is based on a Swedish menu, replenishment is constant. The location is great because you are close to everything. You are not exactly in the center, but you get there quickly. You certainly have other activities at "your fingertips".

We had an amazing stay at NH Valencia Las Artes.
A very special thank you to the gentleman who checked us in. Unfortunately, I can’t remember his name, but he made us feel welcome right away. He was incredibly kind, professional, and helpful, and his friendly attitude made a wonderful first impression.
We would also like to thank Dario at breakfast for his outstanding service. He was always smiling, attentive, and made every morning even more enjoyable.
The breakfast was excellent, with a great variety of fresh and delicious food. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and cleaned to a very high standard every day. Throughout our stay, every member of the staff was friendly, polite, and always willing to help with anything we needed.
Thank you to the entire team for making our trip so memorable. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for exceptional service and a fantastic place to stay we would definitely choose this hotel again when visiting Valencia.
Best regards,
Noemi & Betti from Budapest

The front desk staff have zero customer service especially considering this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. We had an issue with our room and didn’t once get an apology or a slice of understanding (we were staying there 7 nights and wish we could have left after our first night because they were bordering rude) one employee in particular, Henry. When I asked if we could at least have an apology he replied “what for?” whilst ripping up a piece of paper in a passive aggressive way. My husband was dumbfounded. I don’t understand why anyone would work on a reception desk if they don’t like customers.
Vincent from breakfast was a super star (I wish I could give him a 5 star review separate) and the breakfast overall ran like clockwork and there was plenty of choice. The standard rooms are dull and dusty but the superior rooms are much better. The location is ok, it’s on a busy road but we felt slightly in the middle of nowhere there. This hotel is not 4 star quality and we will not return.

Pleasant hotel with great penthouse suites (on 2 floors). Great location near the Arts and Science City. Great vegan Cafe across the road. Free glass of wine if you do not need your room serviced! (Good to be green! Haha).

My recent stay at NH Valencia Las Artes was deeply disappointing and entirely unacceptable for a hotel that officially markets itself as a 4‑star property. In reality, the standard delivered is closer to 2 stars, and the discrepancy is nothing short of a disgrace.
The hotel is visibly neglected, outdated, and poorly maintained. The attached photos speak for themselves: the rooms are in a deplorable condition, cluttered, worn, and presented more like a storeroom than a space intended for paying guests.
As a frequent business traveller, I have experienced a wide range of hotel standards across Europe, yet this was one of the most jarring and substandard rooms I have encountered. The furnishings are tired, the presentation careless, and the overall condition suggests a complete lack of investment, oversight, and pride in the product. Even the poorly made beds reinforced the impression of a hotel that has simply stopped caring.
The only redeeming element of the stay was the professionalism and kindness of the reception team, both late at night and during the day. Their courtesy, however, cannot compensate for the unacceptable state of the rooms and the hotel as a whole.
Regrettably, I must rate NH Valencia Las Artes one star, and I cannot recommend it under any circumstances.

We stayed in this hotel in June for my boyfriends birthday.
The hotel does appear quite modern and our room was pretty big which was lovely!
The only thing was that for most of the four day trip, our room didn’t appear to get properly cleaned, the bed sheets at least weren’t changed for two of the days. I just thought it was unusual given the price point of the hotel. Despite this, we did have a great trip, the hotel is central and the reception staff were always friendly!

My husband and I came to Valencia to participate in the Gay Games. We picked the One Shot Reina Victoria because we had stayed in a One Shot Hotel near Madrid last year and had confidence in the brand. Also the fact that the hotel is historic and located in the old city was intriguing to us.
The physical appearance of the hotel was totally charming and as advertised in the reviews we had seen when booking. We checked in and were placed in a room that turned out to have several issues. The room was made to be handicap accessible which is not generally an issue. However the shower had no door, glass, nor curtain and the bathroom floor was flooded after a simple wash up. This made walking out of the shower hazardous. In addition the pocket door was damaged (likely due to the constant water flooding) and, when open, was extremely hard to pull closed to have privacy when using the facilities. The final issue was that the safe in the room was non-functional. The staff attempted to fix it but they were unable to get it to work making it impossible to secure our valuables and travel documents. Here is where the staff truly shone! When we brought these issues to the attention of the staff they all rallied around to help us to change rooms. They were truly unaware of the issues and they were sincere in their regrets for them. Once we got into our new room the stay was perfect! The staff for the rest of our time was kind, engaging, and interested in how the Games were going for us. We want to particularly call out the following for exemplary customer service: Gloria G., Yaiza F., Giulia S., Lorena J., Manuel V., and Zizzo (theres only one Zizzo!). We were truly sad to leave when the games were over since they had become a real part of our experience in Valencia and at the Gay Games. Bravo! We would absolutely stay at the Reina Victoria again when in Valencia.

Great 1-night stay in a beautiful hotel!Pros:
*Spacious and bright room with a gorgeous bathroom.
*Extremely polite and kind staff.
*Perfect location right in the city center (everything is within walking distance).
👎 Cons:
*The breakfast was very meager with very little choice.
Overall, it's a beautiful place. Highly recommended, but you might want to grab breakfast at a nearby café!

The room was OK. It was clean, a nice size and had a nice view from the balcony, but a few things could be updated like the TV.
The location was perfect for us. A pleasant walk from Estació del Nord and close to shopping in and around Colón.
The staff were very friendly and accomodating.
I would definitely consider staying here again.

Great location and very nice staff. I was expecting a little bit more of the rooms. They seemed really outdated for the amount of stars this hotel has. They are good sized, but I was borderline disgusted with some things I took photos of. 3 stars instead of 2 due to location and staff.

Great place to stay, fantastic location. The rooms were clean and spacious. It's on a busy street so there's alot of noise during the day. If you have a street level window and if you're going to sleep during the day good luck. We shared a bathroom and it wasn't an issue because they were always clean. We visited in October so we didn't have issues with the temperature of the room. We will definitely stay there again.

Guys, please don’t pay attention to the negative reviews — they’re simply not true! Yes, the hotel room is small, but it’s clean. It’s a 5-minute walk from the metro, there’s a supermarket just around the corner, and it’s right in the city center. For this price, it’s an absolute find.

I love the room with the balcony which allows for a great city-view. The location is very central and unbeatable! Cleaning service was well done and daily. Support via WhatsApp was available whenever I needed it. Not the first time I've been here. Certainly won't be the last time either. I can only recommend this hotel!

The place is around 20minutes away by foot from Joaquin Sorolla station. It's not advisable if you're not fond of dragging your luggage with you. Compared with that hostel that we had in Madrid, this place has a really small bathroom. I'm only 5'3" and I found it uncomfortable to move inside the bathroom and do my business. Every time you use the faucet or toilet, there's a strong sound and I found it annoying. The air-conditioning cannot be controlled from the room. There are no bedside lamps but there are sockets at each side of the bed and the sink outside the bathroom. All access points except from the main door are all with codes. There's no receptionist. The only lift fits one person with one luggage.
It is good for an overnight stay but nothing more than that. WIFI is really good. I also appreciated the hot and cold shower and strong water pressure.
Tip : If you'll go back to Joaquin Sorolla from Star Home, take a cab than an Uber. It only cost me 4.75 euros on a Monday morning. An Uber comfort car costs around 10 euros.

+Big room, near centre and subway, cleaning service every day
- A/C is set to low degrees and is centralized so you cannot change temp/switch it off, shower in the room, shower filter filled with sand, low manteinance, no reception

What an amazing stay!
Out room was huge, it was clean and really good value for money. The terrace restaurant was amazing, food was great and the local red wine was superb!
Yes the shower pressure is a little low and the wardrobe is in the bathroom, but the isolation of this place and value overrides any niggles. Don’t come here for the spa, but to stay in a local hotel that has been completely rebuilt and is magical for a night or 2.
Emilie Maddison★★☆☆☆
Building is beautiful and rooms are spacious and nicely decorated but shower was really weak and fridge not working. They charge 25 euros per head for the spa so we didn't go. Worst thing was we booked because it had a pool which is tiny. Also unusable because it's totally covered with wasps so you have to run to the middle and hope not to get stung. Didn't try restaurant. Won't be returning.
W2001★☆☆☆☆
The spa is not included in the booking, which it does not say anywhere on the website! It’s 25€ per person for a spa that’s very basic and not working well! The sauna and the turkish bath were cold and you get kicked out after 1 hour. They make you wear a bath cap which they don’t tell you in advance. They give you one in the spa without saying anything and in the check out they make you pay 4€ per cap (that cannot be worth more than 10 cents). This is a scam! Finally we paid almost 200€ for one night! Absolutely not worth it

Epic location and supercool building and friendly staff, however the kitchen needs a total makeover..we got a sour roséwine and as we ordered a nice steak it was just a joke..a piece of meat with perhaps one potato next to it..for a fullgrown man? The waiter did his best but clearly a bit unexperienced.. no the kitchen/food pulls this place down otherwise supernice..

Amazing and atmospheric hotel. Food much improved from my last visit, which is more than can be said for the wine 🍷 😒
The hotel was also very cold this time.
Staff as lovely and helpful as ever.
Tips for Choosing a Hotel Near Santiago Cathedral
Selecting accommodation in a historic pilgrimage city requires a different strategy than booking a standard city hotel. The ancient infrastructure, narrow streets, and unique local regulations mean you need to consider factors you might not think about elsewhere. Here are essential tips to ensure your stay is comfortable and hassle-free.
1. Check the Accessibility and Luggage Logistics
Many streets in the old town are pedestrian-only and paved with uneven granite cobblestones. If you have heavy luggage or mobility issues, verify if the hotel has vehicle access for taxis or a porter service. Some hotels are located on steep hills, and a "five-minute walk" can feel like a hike with a suitcase. Contact the hotel directly to ask about the closest drop-off point for vehicles and whether they can assist with carrying bags.
2. Consider the Bell Tower Noise
The Cathedral bells ring regularly, and while charming during the day, they can be startling at dawn. If you are a light sleeper, request a room that does not directly face the bell tower or the main plaza. Hotels often have interior-facing rooms or double-glazed windows that mitigate the sound. Reading recent reviews specifically mentioning noise levels is the best way to gauge what to expect.
3. Look for "Historical" vs. "Modern" Trade-offs
Hotels inside the medieval walls often have no elevators due to preservation laws. While a fourth-floor attic room might offer stunning views, it could mean climbing four flights of spiral stone stairs. If you are a pilgrim finishing the Camino, your legs may not appreciate extra stairs. Conversely, modern hotels just outside the old town boundary often offer elevators, air conditioning, and soundproofing that historic buildings lack.
4. Book Early for the Feast of St. James
If you are visiting around July 25th (the Feast of St. James), availability near the Cathedral disappears months in advance. Prices also surge significantly. If you are traveling during this period or during Holy Week, secure your booking as early as possible and be prepared for minimum-night stay requirements. The atmosphere is electric, but the demand is fierce.
5. Understand the Breakfast Culture
While many luxury hotels offer extensive breakfast buffets, staying near the Cathedral puts you in close proximity to authentic local cafes. You might save money by opting out of the hotel breakfast and instead grabbing a tosta de tomate and a café con leche at a local bar frequented by residents. However, if you plan to leave early for a tour or the airport, a hotel breakfast ensures you are fed before the city wakes up.
Choosing to stay near the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela immerses you in a thousand years of history. You are not just booking a room; you are participating in the ongoing story of this incredible city. By selecting a property that aligns with your physical needs and travel style, you ensure that the magic of the old town enhances your rest rather than disrupting it.
Whether you choose a five-star parador or a boutique hideaway tucked down a side street, the proximity to the Praza do Obradoiro will define your trip. Waking up to the sound of distant bagpipes or stepping out for a midnight stroll to see the illuminated cathedral facade is an experience that stays with you long after you return home. Safe travels, and bo camiño.
