Finding a memorable meal in Nice doesn’t require a reservation at a Michelin-starred establishment or a hefty credit card limit. While the French Riviera is synonymous with glamour, the culinary heart of this Mediterranean city beats strongest in its bustling bistros, hidden alleyway cafés, and family-run institutions.
The local food culture is deeply rooted in accessible, rustic Niçoise cooking that prioritizes fresh produce, olive oil, and the daily catch over expensive presentation. However, the density of restaurants in the Old Town (Vieux Nice) and the port district can be overwhelming, and tourist traps are a real hazard if you don’t know where to look.
Eating well on a budget here means stepping away from the main promenades and following the locals to where the value is genuine. It requires knowing which spots serve authentic socca, hearty daube, and perfectly dressed pan bagnat without the inflated “sea view” surcharge.
To help you navigate the vibrant food scene without overspending, we have curated a list of establishments that offer exceptional value for money. These are places where the ingredients are sourced with care, the recipes are time-honored, and the welcome is warm. Whether you are looking for a quick slice of pissaladière or a leisurely three-course lunch, this guide covers the spectrum of affordable dining.
We have focused on restaurants that consistently deliver quality and authenticity for a reasonable price, usually offering a main course or a fixed-price menu that won’t break the bank. These are not fast-food joints; they are genuine culinary experiences that respect both the tradition of Niçoise cuisine and your travel budget. You can eat extraordinarily well in Nice without sacrificing atmosphere or flavor.
This selection is based on a mix of local reputation, consistency of kitchen output, and the overall dining experience relative to the cost. It represents the best of the city’s “bistronomie” scene, where chefs strip away the pretense and focus on what matters: the food. From sun-drenched terraces to cozy interiors, these spots prove that affordability and high quality can coexist beautifully.
Without further ado, here are our top picks for the best affordable restaurants currently operating in Nice.

Love coming here every season for the new set menu. So delicious every time. You get an option of usually 3 choices per course, app, main, dessert, every option is delicious. Small place with quality ingredients and a tiny but mighty staff, just the chef and the one fabulous waiter. Fast service delicious food all you could want.

Found this restaurant by chance while walking around Nice and didn't expect much
but it turned out to be one of the best meals I've had here.
The €25 three-course menu is incredible value (honestly feels cheap for Nice), and every dish was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is small, cozy, and has a lovely family-run atmosphere. The owners were super friendly, spoke English, and took the time to explain the menu.
Amazing food, great prices, and such a warm experience. Highly recommend!
J G★★★★★
The 25 € menu is available for lunch and dinner. They change the menu every 3 days. I was lucky to get a chair for lunch but reservation is recommended! Service was charming and efficient.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!
Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it.
The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts.
We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon “tiramisu”. Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food.
Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn’t walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining.
The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn’t order his favorite (we didn’t know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later.
We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
Kok Koon Tabitha★★★★★
We recently had the pleasure of dining at this lovely spot, and I must say, it was a truly enjoyable experience! The service was top-notch, thanks to the owner who went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. He took the time to explain the dishes, checked in with us regularly, and even played fun tricks on us - it was clear they were passionate about creating a memorable experience.
The set lunch was absolutely worth it - the portions were perfectly sized, and the food was delicious! We sat outside as they were fully booked, but the vibes inside caught our eye - it's clear that a lot of thought and love has gone into creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Overall, we'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and a warm welcome. Well done, and we'll be back for more!

Quirky cafe with down-to-earth wholesome French country fare. Roast chicken (“famous chicken”) and duck confit came in generous portion sizes. I would have liked the dauphinoise potato creamier but was still passable. The roasted vegetables starter was an unexpected winner with its sweetness. The star for me was the lemon meringue pie/tart. The lemon custard was tart and refreshing, the meringue had that nice crunch but remained light and the pie shell was thin and delicate. The chocolate mousse was also lovely with its lightness and strong chocolate flavour. The nougat ice cream was also good.

This place deserves all of the 5* reviews it has and I cannot comprehend anything less!
I came here with my boyfriend and family on a busy Friday night and had a great time.
The location was tucked out of major tourist areas but very easy to find and walking distance from our apartment. The interior is cool and kooky, a wonderful change from the usual beige tones we see far too often these days.
The menu is small but that’s because everything tastes amazing and is cooked to perfection. I will be dreaming of those crispy potatoes until I have a chance to come back.
The owner and the waiter were attentive all night and they managed to sort out some
calvados at the end of the meal much to my parents delight.
I recommend anyone visiting or living in Nice to visit this restaurant. Make sure you book, there was a queue of people outside and some groups had to be turned way.

A French restaurant with great French food and wonderful service (by the owner I believe). He was so congenial and intuitive (my husband dropped his fork and he was there with another right away). The meal is so delicious …duck confit for sure and the steak with the secret sauce is wonderful too. Escargots with pestos were superb even though on the small side. Finishing off with lemon meringue tart and the chocolate mousse (thick and not so sweet - one of the best and I don’t even like chocolate mousse). A prix fix dinner menu with 3 courses at €33 ea +€5 for what we ordered. Love this experience.

An Authentic French Feast!
Don't let the modest exterior fool you—this small, unassuming restaurant is a hidden culinary treasure. The moment you walk in, you are treated like family by the incredibly friendly owner and waiter, but it is the food that will truly blow you away.
The Starters: The escargot was classic, rich, and packed with flavor, while the foie gras was beautifully prepared and incredibly smooth.
The Main: The duck confit was an absolute triumph—hands down the best I have ever had in my life. Crisp skin, perfectly tender meat, and seasoned to perfection.
The Finale: You must save room for dessert. The mousse au chocolat was pure perfection—literally the best chocolate mousse I have ever eaten.
The only small critique is that the wine list could be a bit stronger. Specifically, adding a sweet dessert wine (like a Sauternes) to the menu would be the perfect match to pair with that amazing foie gras.
If you want an unforgettable, authentic meal with warm hospitality, do not pass this place up!
Gracie Acebal★★★★★
We decided to stop by because another restaurant couldn’t fit us in, and I’m very glad it worked out that way because this was one of our favorite meals we had in our entire 2 week trip. The confit duck was SO GOOD it’s a must try and the steak was really great as well, the sauce is especially delicious. Escargot as well was an A++ we did not have a single bad food item.
It felt like enjoying a home cooked meal but with the quality of a high end restaurant. Paul was really sweet and took great care of us. You can really feel the love inside the restaurant and we can’t wait to visit again!
If you are someone who tries hard to find places that feel authentic and are good but not just touristy - definitely, definitely come here.

We were looking for somewhere to try local Nice specialities and the recommendations for this place looked good. We arrived shortly before midday and were quickly shown to a table. A queue did build but the staff got through it very quickly. We ordered a range of pissaladieres and soccas to try as much as we could and none disappointed. A great place to go for these classic dishes.
Rie Richardson★★★★★
A perfect place to try the authentic socca, and a bit of everything! Loved the small portions so we could sample different dishes. If you never had socca before, go for the original (without toppings)- which was recommended by the staff and thankful he did, loved it so much we had our seconds!
ahbarable★★★★☆
If you’re interested in trying Socca, I’d definitely recommend this place. The service was great and everything was served quickly. From the atmosphere and the menu I’d say it’s more of a casual bar where you come to hang out and have some snacks, rather than a place for a full meal.
Seda Guner★★★★☆
Tried local Nice food here. Socca was okay.
Liked the tapenades which is crushed olives with crispy french baguettes.
Pissaladiere flavor was way too strong for me.

I went to here for dinner on 17 April 2026.
Gabriel looked after me and help to choose the menu, taking into account how hungry I was and what I fancied eating.
Traveling alone as a woman is always about nervous-wracking, but Gabriel’s warm and welcoming service put me at ease, allowing me to enjoy a peaceful dinner time.
Thank you very much and I will definitely come again when I come to Nice.✨

If you are looking for a good spot in Nice for authentic Greek food, this is definitely the place🇬🇷🤤
The terrace outside is absolutely beautiful and creates such a cozy Mediterranean atmosphere… The food was incredibly fresh, full of flavor, and you can really taste the quality and big plus simple menu aswell!
Big plus for the warm atmosphere and friendly service as well. I already know I will be coming back again! Definitely one of my favorite spots in Nice for Greek food and a perfect place to enjoy dinner after a walk around the port area. 💙
Highly recommend KALŌS if you want delicious, fresh Greek food in Nice.
Daniel★★★★☆
We went there with 8 people without a reservation. We had to wait some minutes but we gladly got a place. The service itself was not as good as expected. We waited longer than said and also for ordering the drinks and the food we had to wait. The food itself tasted good and the price was also okay, but the portion was not that big.
Lucas Elliott★★★☆☆
The meal was tasty, but the service was disappointing. The waiter wasn’t friendly or helpful, and we had to repeatedly attract his attention for a hello, a table, and to place our order. We ordered extra hummus and salade grecque, not realizing that it was already part of our dishes, but the waiter didn’t tell us that the extra would be unnecessary, resulting in an extra €12 charge for food we didn’t touch. He also wasn’t attentive and we had to walk to the till to pay since he didn’t come back. These missteps overshadowed the dinner. Needless to say we won’t be going back!

Charming, quaint Nicoise bistro a couple of blocks from the promenade. Open all day and offers an amazing variety of things to eat. Service is warm and friendly. Highly recommend the Nicoise Socca and the cucumber gazpacho in the summer. Finish off with one of the fruit sorbets and head to a walk by the sea! C’est la vie!
PS: I’m definitely coming back here a second time on my trip!

The food here was out of this world. Our brunch was so delicious and affordable that we came back a second day. The La Banoffee pancakes was one of the most delicious treats that I have ever eaten. And the fresh squeezed orange juice was perfect. The service was so friendly that we will definitely visit here again when we return to Nice.

What a find- it’s on the strip in Nice where there are oodles of restaurants. I followed the reviews here and wasn’t disappointed. We loved the galettes, the charcuterie, and the crepes which were so delicious and the service was prompt and super friendly.
Ivan Bolsun★★★★★
Thin, crispy crêpe loaded with wild mushrooms, melty cheese and a creamy sauce. And this isn’t just truffle oil for flavor they top it with actual pieces of real black truffle, plus shaved cheese, crunchy hazelnuts and fresh sprouts. So much flavor in every bite, the truffle smell hits you right away. Came on a cute vintage plate too. Staff were super friendly and the price was more than fair for what you get. If you’re around the old town, just go you won’t regret it 🍄
Sasha B★★★★☆
We tried the La Cocotte crepe, hummus and pita, ceasar salad, the grilled sausage and the waffle with fruit. The crepe was cooked to perfection and was delightful along with the sausage which had a yummy sauce with it. The Ceasar salad came in a good portion and was also very well prepared. The hummus lacked seasoning and was very bland which is the only downside. The waffle with fresh fruit was delicious as a dessert. Would come back!

Amazing resteraunt, lovely food at very reasonable prices, we arrived just as it opened in the evening and there was already another large table waiting at the door too. Clearly very popular in the area and it is obvious as to why. We sat outside and they even provided some bug spray for us once it got dark. I liked how all the meals came with nice crispy herby roasted potatoes instead of chips, it reflected the extra care and attention put in to the food. I wish I could come back to try the rest of the stuff on the menu.
curiousCat2026★★★☆☆
Service was friendly and attentive, and the roasted feta starter was delicious. The beef rib steak was disappointing though. It was cooked correctly, but the meat itself was tough and chewy — as you can see in the photos, I couldn’t eat about a third of it, and another third was fat. Maybe a third of the plate was actually good. For €28 they should pay more attention to the cut they’re using for this dish

One of the few restaurants that i would definitely come back to. Amazing food, great service and local vibes! We tried their roasted Camembert with truffles, burrata/ tomatoes and octopus stew. Authentic flavors and definitely should give it a try. Don’t miss their desserts. The baba is literally on fire and their creme burlee is to die for

One of the best meals I’ve had in Nice!
First of all, the staff at Le Bouchon were so welcoming! We didn’t speak French and we were still welcomed warmly by the kind lady that runs the show. There’s an English menu available too to make things easier for tourists. She’s super attentive and very nice, we felt right at home. One of the best eating experiences I’ve experienced anywhere, much better service than Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to in France. Come and experience what France truly can offer in terms of food and dinning. Reservation is highly recommended as the restaurant is full and reserve early too because it’s a very popular restaurant.
The food is superb! Everything was so good and the best part is you won’t break your wallet like the other restaurants in Nice. I loved every bite! It’s very good french cuisine.
I will definitely come back again if I visit Nice. Thank you for the lovely meal, Le Bouchon.

Really nice local spot that we stumbled across and we loved it. The lady that served us was super friendly. We got the steak tartare which was delicious. Le Petit Bouchon in Nice is an absolute gem! The food is exceptional, with every dish prepared to perfection. Whether you're enjoying a full meal or just a light bite, the flavors are outstanding and truly capture the essence of French cuisine.

I was particularly impressed with the children's menu. It’s not just an afterthought—each dish is clean, fresh, and delicious, offering a great variety that kids will love. It’s clear that the same care and attention are given to the children's meals as the main menu.

Very cozy and quite place. First day in Nice, I just randomly checked online for a lunch. Didn’t reserve a seat but walked in. Food is very delicious and unique. Each ingredient is well-designed to contribute to the food. Dadri’s service is great as well. Very kind and responsive. He recommended to order the dessert Abricot poche Meme, which is amazing.. not very sweet, taste different with rosemary and caramel. Good experience and highly recommended to a one-person meal.

Restaurant Review: La Cantine de Mémé – Nice
I recently dined at La Cantine de Mémé in Nice and had a truly memorable meal.
First of all, a big shoutout to our waiter Badri — his service was excellent. He was friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely helpful throughout the evening. His warm attitude made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable.
The Dishes:
The top plate featured a beautifully seared duck breast ,cooked to perfection with crispy skin and really tasted like steak. It was accompanied by roasted potatoes, fresh bok choy, a vibrant green sauce (likely a herb pesto), and artistic swirls of red and yellow sauces. The balance of flavours was impressive — rich, slightly sweet, and elegantly presented.
The bottom dish was an absolute highlight: a stunning grilled octopus tentacle. The octopus was perfectly cooked — tender yet with a nice bite, beautifully charred, and generously coated with a fragrant green sauce. It came with stuffed zucchini flowers, refreshing cucumber slices, and delicate purple shiso leaves on a striking terrazzo plate. The combination was fresh, flavourful, and visually spectacular.
From the thoughtful plating to the quality of ingredients and refined flavours, La Cantine de Mémé delivers a high standard of French-Mediterranean cuisine. With warm service (special thanks to Badri), a pleasant ambiance, and excellent dishes, this is definitely one of the standout restaurants in Nice.
Highly recommended! If you’re in Nice and looking for great seafood and refined meat dishes, don’t miss this place. I would happily return.

This way hands down the best food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. My fiancé and I are completely blown away. The ambience and service is also amazing - very attentive and kind staff with a lively seating area with perfect vibes for a date night or dinner with family and friends. The menu changes every 2 weeks but the Mahi Mahi fish we had tonight was to die for - as well as the caramel brioche desert (I may be getting the name wrong but it seems to be a permanent item on the menu…you have to try it). Definitely definitely eat here if you’re from Nice or visiting…it’s insanely worth it. We can’t wait to come back!

The food was fantastic, and the service was decent as well. However, it’s a pity they don’t serve lunch formula on weekends. If they did, it would be an ideal place for a meal. All the meals are excellent, so I definitely recommend it.

99 year old family restaurant that is absolutely delicious and a must come to when in Nice! We got a reservation for lunch and so happy we did! The entire family was so nice and it’s so cute to see them all working together! Will be on my list to come back to next time 🙂

Everything was perfect! Welcoming staff, delicious food and dessert. The fig duck steak and gorgonzola steak were unique and amazing, and the crème brûlée with crunchy roasted pine nuts was outstanding. Thank you for the wonderful birthday surprise for my daughter. It was a flawless dining experience! Highly recommend booking in advance!

We had an unforgettable experience at Chez Acchiardo. From the moment we walked in, everything felt special—the warm, authentic atmosphere, the charming decor, and the sense of history woven into every detail.
What truly stood out was the story behind the restaurant. Hearing about the owner and how they used to make wine with his grandfather added such a personal and meaningful touch. It’s rare to find a place where tradition and passion are so deeply felt.
And the food—absolutely incredible. Every dish was exceptional, from the perfectly prepared meat to the rich, flavorful ravioli, and the desserts that were the perfect ending to the meal. You can really taste the care and quality in everything they serve.
This is more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience. I would go back in a heartbeat. Make reservations!

One of the best restaurants in Nice! Family business since 1927, extremely tasteful recipes and the ambience is cozy and friendly. The service is 5 stars, we have been attended by Najet, such a lovely person and she knows the products so well! She made some incredible recommendations. Big thank you as well to Jean Francois for his warm welcoming. I can’t wait to be back!

This place has become such a huge trend on social media, ao it's not a surprise that it's always busy. We had a reservation for 9pm but still had to wait about 15-20 minutes for our table. Even at that time the restaurant was packed inside and there was a queue outside.
That said, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were seated in the lower dinning area at a spacious corner table, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The food was delicious, the portions were generous and we had a great overall experience.
Highly recommend this place. Keep up the good work! 👏

I happened to be walking past this restaurant and, seeing the plates on the tables, I stopped and ordered the daily special, which was the Turkish platter. It was absolutely delicious, and the service was incredibly quick and friendly.
All for €15, which seemed very reasonable considering the quality and quantity. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes.

Very very good nicoise cantine in the city center. It’s very authentic, food is delicious, service is friendly; what else you would need 😅
We ate a quite a lot for two people as you can see in the pictures but we enjoyed everything. Best croque monsieur I had in Nice. The other dish we had was le truite fume , very good combination of cold mezes/tapas, was tasty. Nicoise salad was also really good!
Highly recommended place!

We had one of the best meet meals here in Nice at this simple restaurant. We ordered Entrecôte grillé and Escalope de veau with veggies... mmmm, everything was just perfect in these meals. We almost didn't have space for desserts. The prices were moderate, and I think it was worth every single cent, we enjoyed every single bite
Staff was super friendly and helpful.

A humble eatery with friendly service and decent food assembled from decent ingredients. Nothing fancy but solid dishes for a good value. Worth a visit if you’re in the area. Can get hot inside though if it’s sunny!

We are Americans who moved to Nice 2-1/2 months ago. Bay Baie is a couple of blocks from our apartment and we usually eat lunch there at least once a week, if not more. The owner is so kind and helpful, letting us practice our French and explaining menu items to us. We feel lucky to have such an affordable restaurant so close, a block off the Promenade des Anglais! The menu is always a delightful surprise: fresh and well prepared. Real cooking! The portions are generous and we don't usually have room for cafe gourmand, but when we've treated ourselves to it, it's worth the splurge!

If you can, eat here. The food is so good here I would eat everyday here. The waitress is the kindest waitress I have ever met . I would recommend thei place for everybody.

I was there for lunch and had a wonderful experience. The service was outstanding—everyone was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made a real effort to ensure we had a great time.
The food was absolutely delicious, and you can tell they put a lot of care into every dish. The lunch portions were very generous, offering great value for the price.
As a thoughtful gesture, they even gave us some sweets at the end of our meal, which made the experience even more memorable.
I highly recommend Gago Restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food, generous portions, and exceptional service. I will definitely be back!

Tips for Eating Well on a Budget in Nice
To truly maximize your dining budget in this sun-soaked city, it helps to adopt a few local habits that go beyond simply choosing the right restaurant. The way you order, the time you eat, and what you drink can dramatically alter your final bill.
By understanding the rhythm of Niçoise dining culture, you can eat like a local and save a significant amount of money while enjoying a more authentic experience.
1). Embrace the “Formule” or “Menu du Midi”
Nearly every quality restaurant in Nice offers a fixed-price lunch menu during the week. This usually includes a starter and a main course, or a main course and dessert, often with a glass of wine or coffee included. These menus are designed for workers on their lunch break and offer the best price-to-quality ratio in the city, often featuring the exact same dishes that cost double on the evening à la carte menu.
2). Make Lunch Your Main Meal
Following the local rhythm is the smartest financial strategy. Restaurants know that tourists expect a large dinner, so evening prices are typically higher. By swapping your main meal to lunchtime, you can enjoy a multi-course experience for a fraction of the cost, leaving the evenings for lighter fare like a salad or a shared appetizer.
3). Step Away from the Cours Saleya
While the flower market is beautiful, the restaurants lining it pay premium rent, and those costs are passed onto you in the form of higher prices for often mediocre food. Instead, wander just two or three streets back into the “Baby Loup” or “Rue Droite” areas. A five-minute walk can easily save you 5 to 10 euros per person while dramatically improving the authenticity of the food.
4). Drink the House Wine
Ordering a bottle of branded or vintage wine is where budgets often go to die. In Nice, the “pichet” (carafe) of house wine is a point of pride for restaurateurs. Often sourced directly from local Provence vineyards, the house red or rosé is usually excellent, perfectly chilled (in the case of rosé), and costs a fraction of what a bottled equivalent would cost.
5). Look for “Plats du Jour”
Pay attention to the chalkboards outside restaurants rather than the printed menus. The “Plat du Jour” (dish of the day) is based on what the chef found at the market that morning. It is almost always the freshest item in the kitchen and is priced competitively because the ingredients are in season and abundant.
Exploring the culinary landscape of Nice on a budget is not just possible; it is arguably the best way to experience the city. The true flavors of the Riviera are found in the simple, rustic dishes served at crowded counters and shaded terraces, not in gilded dining rooms. By choosing wisely and following the local customs, you can taste the essence of the Mediterranean without the anxiety of an inflated bill.
Whether you are biting into a crispy piece of socca fresh from the oven or savoring a slow-cooked daube, the memory of the meal will be defined by the flavor, not the price tag. Nice rewards the curious traveler who is willing to explore its side streets and embrace its lunchtime culture. Bon appétit.
