Zaragoza moves at its own unhurried pace, a city where Roman walls, Mudéjar towers, and the broad Ebro River set the scene for a coffee culture that rewards slowing down. Away from the busy tapas bars and grand basilicas, a quieter ritual takes place daily: the search for the perfect café. Whether you need a strong espresso before visiting the Aljafería or a quiet corner to work near Plaza del Pilar, the city’s specialty scene has grown into one of the most welcoming in northern Spain.
The best cafés here are not just about caffeine; they function as neighborhood living rooms, bakeries, roasteries, and design studios rolled into one. Local roasters have pushed quality forward, introducing lighter roasts, alternative milk options, and slow-bar techniques to a public traditionally raised on café con leche and a morning croissant. This evolution means you can now find a flat white or a V60 pour-over within minutes of a centuries-old market.
Because Zaragoza is compact and walkable, the best approach is to treat coffee as a way to explore its distinct barrios. The historic El Tubo district offers old-world charm, while the university area and Las Fuentes provide a more youthful, experimental energy. Each neighborhood has a different rhythm, and the best café experiences match that local tempo rather than forcing a generic specialty template onto it.
This guide focuses on venues that consistently deliver on quality, atmosphere, and service. We have visited, tasted, and compared notes on extraction, milk texture, pastry freshness, and the intangible feeling of wanting to stay for a second cup. The goal is to help you avoid tourist traps and find places where locals actually linger over their afternoon cortado.
Beyond the coffee itself, many of these spaces double as excellent breakfast spots or remote-work hubs. We have noted which places offer reliable Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and a noise level suitable for a laptop, as well as those better suited to a quick stop at the bar. Practical details like opening hours and location matter just as much as the beans in the hopper.
You will also find that hospitality in Zaragoza is direct but warm. Baristas here are happy to explain their single-origin offerings or recommend a pairing, but they rarely rush you. That balance of professionalism and ease is exactly what makes the city’s coffee scene so appealing to both residents and travelers.
Below is a curated list of the twelve best cafés in Zaragoza, selected for their quality, consistency, and unique character.

What a wonderful café in Zaragoza! Nestled in the charming old town, it’s just a short stroll from the magnificent main cathedral. The iced latte was absolutely delightful, and the chocolate orange cake was simply scrumptious. Plus, the prices were quite reasonable, and the service was both quick and exceptional.
Fuad Bismar★★★☆☆
I asked for the menu and the waiter said that they didn't have a menu (what?). So I ordered what I saw on google reviews; a carrot cake covered with chocolate, a cup of hot chocolate, and iced black coffee for a total of 6.4 EUR (high value for money).
I really enjoyed the hot chocolate. It was thick, rich, and creamy. It tasted like chocolate bar that was melted into a drink.
The carrot cake was okay. The slice was big enough for 2. The coffee was nothing special.
Overall, I would recommend this place to sit down, relax with your friends, and enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate.
Bob Hibson★★★★☆
Food and coffee were excellent. Nice off the beaten path cafe with a nice vibe. Menu prices were not accurate/updated. Such a minor thing to do so you know what you should be paying. Otherwise you won't be disappointed.
Cristina Suciu★★★★☆
Cozy place, nice music (as in Spain most places do not play music), nice interior. The taste of coffee is decent, very good freshly made fruit juices, good toasts and amazing variety of cakes. I had the pear and chocolate one and it was delicious. Polite and friendly staff.

Very good breakfast and amazingggg selection of cakes! Plus the cake portions are very generous!

Absolutely delicious breakfast sandwiches. Staff were super friendly and their service was fast. The prices here were more than fair especially considering how amazing the food & drinks tasted. Their fresh squeezed juice may be one of the best juices I’ve ever had. I ended up sampling their desserts as well and each one was unique and delicious. Overall if you’re looking for a delicious meal or snack definitely check this place out you will not be disappointed.

Mi Habitación is a true hidden gem! The coffee is rich, smooth, and perfectly brewed, but what really makes it special is the care in every detail. I had a toasted ham-and-cheese sandwich with egg that was crispy on the outside and melting inside — pure comfort food — followed by a slice of homemade lemoncake that was soft, fragrant, and delicious. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a personal touch that makes you feel at home. A place worth coming back to again and again.

Andrea★☆☆☆☆
Quite disappointed.
The place is so beautiful, and it has this atmosphere as well that invites you to come in and enjoy your coffee or tea with dessert or alone.
I loved the place, but the waiter and busser here were very rude. You say hello or good morning and they wouldn’t respond; they’d tell you very rudely to go to the bar and place your order, and even there the waiter wouldn’t help you if you have questions — not at least with any sympathy. I asked about a Jazmin tea or something similar, and the waiter told me to read the menu and figure it out myself and proceeded to turn his back on me, which is also very disrespectful considering we all pay here for whatever items we consume and nothing is for free. So for that same reason, I consider they should give you some advice, or at least, if they don’t want to, to tell you so in a good manner.
With this being said, I definitely would NOT recommend you to come only because it’s a cozy place. The service is not worth it, and if you look up cafeterias around this same area, you’ll find many more with employees willing to provide the service they’re getting paid for without making you feel uncomfortable or even guilty for even having a question about anything.
Tom Donson★★★★☆
Such a beautiful and unique place, with it's beautiful selection of cakes, great tasting coffee and it's artistic views. Would definitely recommend having a delicious piece of cake 🎂
Karen Decter★★★★★
Such a cute atmosphere. Ecclectic chairs, sofas, tables and lamps. No two alike. Comfy and relatively quiet. Coffee, croissant, tortilla and herbal tea for 6.50€ (our hotel was charging 13€/person for breakfast.) Mostly dessert type options. The rooibos tropical is the best I have had. Coffee was a bit 'American'.
Based on comments below, what is great about frequenting small eateries in Spain is that they speak Spanish!!! Why should they speak anything else? Pick up a language book or Duolingo =) Travelling is the best way to see differences in the world. ♡
Enric Juan★★★★☆
Great pincho de tortilla for breakfast in this cozy bar. My highlight goes for the decoration - very well worked out. A special mention to the waiter, all by himself was able to serve all the tables in the room.
Kelly Seng★★★★☆
Cozy ambiance in this café but a bit too noisy, especially during rush hours.
Good café and cakes.
Great price quality ratio.

We had breakfast at this "cozy" cafe and enjoyed it very much. It is in a nice neighborhood away from the busier areas. The owner waited on us. She was very welcoming and happy to share with us places to go during our stay here and in Barcelona. Cozy Chic Cafe is well worth a visit.

Great cafe with great attention to detail. We had delicious and cute looking food and great coffee here. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
A real gem. If you are in the neighborhood, I can highly recommend coming here.

We had an absolutely amazing brunch here, and everything from the food to the atmosphere was perfect. Our waitress was a total angel, providing such warm and attentive service that it truly made our day special. We can't wait to come back!

Our 1st visit to Zaragoza and we found this lovely cafe. What great luck. The food was fresh and delicious and the service stellar. It is only a 10 minute walk from the Exe Boston Hotel. The staff speaks English and is more than happy to explain the dishes. The cafe also has an extensive bar. My spouse got the Chicken Schnitzel sandwich with fresh mozzarella and tomato relish. It was delicious. I ordered lamb chops with a micro green salad and potatoes. Again, the food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. My salad had nasturtium petals. We shared a plate of sliced tomatoes, onions, and black, Spanish olives drizzles with EVOO. ,I only wish that we were staying longer so that we could try other dishes. HIGHLY the Cozy Chic Cafe.
Amalia Birin★★★★★
Cozy chic cafe it's such a lovely spot to relax. The coffee is really good, perfectly brewed and full of flavor. The staff is always nice and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Plus, the prices are very reasonable, so it’s a great place to stop by regularly. Definitely worth a visit!✨

This is my third time at this place, and it’s always a good experience for me. The frappes and coffees are really good! The breakfast menu is really good as well; unfortunately, I forgot what I ate before. The atmosphere is really nice, and the aesthetic of the place is something I admire. Overall, it is a great place to spend some time chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee and a delicious piece of tarta.
YAFEA ALYAFEI★★★★★
What a delightful café in Zaragoza! A wonderful local friend introduced me to this gem. It offers a lovely view of a charming square. The frappe was truly enjoyable, and the service was impressively quick and excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

We took a day trip from Barcelona to Zaragoza and as soon as we arrived we came to Dona Hipólita for breakfast.
There is a wide choice of cakes and no shortage of hot drink options either.
We had a great time here, I recommend this place!
Holly Clare★☆☆☆☆
Waitress was straight up nasty. She ignored us multiple times, slammed our drinks down on our table and ignored us just because we were foreign.
It didn't matter that we tried to speak in Spanish.
Angel’s Partner★★★☆☆
We were attracted to this place because of its outdoor design in a nice plaza. Inside was also cozy and beautiful including the presentation of their cakes.
The lady who took our order was very nice and patient. We all noticed how pleasant she dealt with us. We were lucky we didn’t encounter the rude and unpleasant staffs that other people have met during their visit.
The food we ate were very tasty! We even liked the spicy white garlic sauce for the chips! I just wish there were more of it. We were all very happy with the different drinks that we tried.
Bathroom was also nice!
The next person who took our extra orders was ok but not as nice as the first one. He immediately submitted our orders and luckily they arrived on time

Lovely place for breakfast, snack or quick lunch if your a tourist in Zaragoza it’s on the way to the parque grande was perfect for breakfast for me - food pastries and coffee are all great
I had toast with avocado and I ask to add egg that was not an issue- very friendly staff and only a bit noisy as full of people locals most of them and music on background
They are not service on table also for menu best to check code on table as full menu more options
Alexia Ursache★★★★★
Outside it looks like a newer placer but inside it’s a classical Spanish bar, however the coffee is excellent and they have a variety of sweets (common lab with the place with the same name a bit further down the street) and savory sandwiches and tostadas. Definitely worth a visit if you are around the area.
Ric Javier★★★★★
I had a wonderful experience at this coffee shop! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax or catch up with friends. The coffee was rich and full of flavor, and they offer a great selection of pastries that pair perfectly. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring everything was just right. Highly recommend stopping by for a warm cup and a welcoming vibe!
R★★★★☆
Excellent coffee. A lot of people and loud chatter create a pleasant ambience. However, I was not quite happy with "Brioche de Salmón" sandwich, because of too much cheese (queso ligero) that made it difficult to taste other ingredients properly.
Kevin Barardo★★★★★
I visited Veintiuno for breakfast today, and I was really impressed. The toast with tomato and avocado was delicious, and the cappuccino and fresh orange were the perfect accompaniment. The great rock playlist added to the atmosphere, and the service was very friendly - they even spoke English! I ended up staying for the whole morning working, and I highly recommend it.

This cafe was below our BNB. It has a fantastic view of Pilar. The location is nice if you want to be away from the main square since it’s quiet and overlooks the park near the bridge. We came down for breakfast and it was very busy. The place only had one person serving and making the coffee so it was a rather long wait for our group of 7. The coffee was good and the food was okay.
Kajetan Zarski★★★★★
Very good coffee - rich menu with many variations, each one high quality, nice looking and tasty. Delicious tartas and nice, communicative staff. The music might be turned down a little, but it doesn’t make conversations difficult.
Flying Mango★★★★★
Excellent place. I was craving a cold brew on a hot summer morning a few weeks back, and decided to go here, and was so happy that I did. The cold brew was fantastic. The servers there later told me they steep it for about 18 hours before serving. Fantastic presentation, good brew used. Ordered some hummus toast and it was also delicious. The staff overall were super helpful and pleasant. I don't speak Spanish, but that was not an issue at all. Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend this place!

My goodness what a meal. My group of 4 chanced dining at Cafe Chicago as we were passing by Zaragoza to Barcelona. Without a reservation, we waited around 30mins for a table.
The service was great - friendly and helpful. They advised we order too much, and thankfully they did. The portions here are generous and huge! The food was incredible, but very heavy- notable call outs: pork belly, chips with chicken and salad. and the amazing meat stack. So come hungry!
If you’re coming through Zaragoza, i would highly recommend giving this place a go.

The torrezno pilgrimage was worth the journey. The waiters were all lovely, the terrace was great, and the food was sublime. The torreznos are truly incredible, but all the other elements were also great - the salads, the bravas, and the drinks. Sitting in the sunshine enjoying the meal was a highlight of Zaragoza
Maya★★★★☆
There were plenty of options to eat and kid friendly. There was air conditioning and there was a great atmosphere. The food came pretty quickly, and with good quality. I would recommend the hamburgers.

A very good experience, the torreznos are excellent, come and have a good food time!!!
Now is a must every time that I visit Zaragoza.

The food portion is generous, we came here for the ‘best pork belly in the world’ and didn’t disappoint. The cheesecake was also really tasty.

We walked by this place on the street and the design of the cafe caught our attention. It’s so unique in character and the aesthetic continues inside everywhere you go. It’s beautiful. Everything was hand painted by a local art student.
The coffee was absolutely amazing. We got a cafe con leche and a dirty chai and thoroughly enjoyed both. Breakfast was fantastic as well. Our favourite was the eggs Benedict, very tasty.
We only speak English and the service was exceptional, we used our translator app to communicate and Mariangel, the owner, was amazing and patient with us. I would highly recommend visiting here if you’re in the area.
Mark Paulhus★★★★★
This nice little cafe is tucked just down a side street off of the main road and could be easy to miss if you don't spot the unique exterior. Unlike the expensive hotel restaurants nearby, this cafe was quiet and not too busy. The menu is varied with lots of breakfast options. The staff was very attentive and there was an English manu available. Our meals (0mlette with Tomato Toast and Avocado/Egg Toast) were great. The coffee was also one of the best I have had in Spain so far. It was so good I am planning to go back again and try the Waffle?

Tips for Choosing the Right Café in Zaragoza
The difference between a good coffee stop and a great one often comes down to a few local habits and practical details. Understanding how cafés operate in Zaragoza will help you match your expectations with the right venue, whether you are visiting for the first time or simply exploring a new neighborhood. Use these recommendations to navigate the city’s coffee scene like a regular.
1. Respect the dual-purpose schedule. Many Zaragoza cafés shift from a morning coffee-and-toast crowd to an afternoon vermouth or beer crowd. If you want a quiet laptop session, arrive before 1:00 PM; after that, the atmosphere often becomes more social and lively.
2. Learn the local milk terminology. While specialty cafés understand “flat white” and “latte,” traditional spots still use terms like café con leche, cortado, and sombra (a lighter coffee with more milk). Knowing these helps you order exactly what you want at any type of venue.
3. Check for house-roasted beans. The best cafés either roast their own beans or source from respected Spanish roasters such as Puchero, Right Side, or Nomad. If you see a roaster’s name on the bag, you are usually in a place that takes extraction seriously.
4. Pair coffee with a local pastry. Look for trenza de Almudévar, roscones, or a simple tostada con tomate. The quality of the pastry often reflects the overall care a café puts into its menu, so do not judge a place by coffee alone.
5. Carry a mix of cash and card. While most modern cafés accept cards, some smaller neighborhood spots have minimum spend requirements or prefer cash for small purchases like a single espresso. A few coins will save you time and awkwardness.
6. Ask about the water. Zaragoza has hard tap water, which affects espresso flavor. The best specialty cafés use filtration systems. If you are sensitive to mineral-heavy coffee, ask the barista whether they filter their water—it is a sign of a truly dedicated shop.
7. Do not skip the bar seating. In many traditional and modern cafés alike, standing or sitting at the bar gives you a front-row seat to the barista’s craft and often costs less than table service. It is also the fastest way to get a recommendation from the staff.
Zaragoza’s café culture continues to evolve without losing the warmth that makes it distinctly Aragonese. Whether you spend a full afternoon reading in a sunlit corner or simply pause for a perfect espresso between sights, the right café turns an ordinary moment into a small ritual. The venues listed above offer a reliable starting point, but the real pleasure comes from wandering, tasting, and finding the spot that feels like yours.
