Finding the right place to stay in a new city can make or break your trip. In Madrid, the choice of neighbourhood is just as important as the quality of the mattress. Staying in the city centre puts you within walking distance of world-class art, historic plazas, and some of the best tapas bars in Europe.
The heart of Madrid is surprisingly compact, yet it is packed with distinct districts that each offer a different vibe. From the literary history of Huertas to the upscale elegance of Salamanca, there is a pocket of the capital to suit every travel style. Choosing a hotel here means trading long metro rides for the simple pleasure of walking out your front door into the action.
However, "city centre" is a broad term that can sometimes mislead travellers. Some hotels located on the periphery of the central district can still require a lengthy walk or a taxi ride to reach the main attractions. It is essential to understand the layout of the city before locking in your reservation.
The Gran Vía is the bustling artery of the city, known for its grand architecture, shopping, and constant energy. Just south of it lies the "Barrio de las Letras" (Literary Quarter), a maze of narrow streets that feels more intimate and bohemian. Meanwhile, the area surrounding the Royal Palace and Opera offers a regal, historic atmosphere that is hard to beat.
For first-time visitors, staying near the Puerta del Sol or Plaza Mayor provides the ultimate convenience. You are at the epicentre of the tourist map, with the Prado Museum, Retiro Park, and the Royal Palace all accessible on foot. However, this convenience often comes with higher noise levels and premium pricing.
If you prefer a more local feel without sacrificing centrality, look toward the areas of Chueca or Malasaña. These neighbourhoods are just a short stroll from the main sights but offer a more relaxed, authentic atmosphere filled with boutique shops, cafes, and vibrant nightlife. They strike a perfect balance between accessibility and living like a local.
Below is a curated list of the best properties in Madrid’s core. These hotels have been selected for their location, service quality, and value, ensuring you have a comfortable base for your Spanish adventure.

We stayed at Hotel Cortezo for six nights, and it made an already special trip even better. The hotel is in a lively, central area, close to everything you could want to see and do in Madrid.
We were upgraded to a junior suite and were completely blown away. The room was fantastic, the breakfast was excellent, and the rooftop terrace, views and sun deck were incredible.
The staff treated us exceptionally well throughout our stay. I honestly could not recommend Hotel Cortezo more highly. An incredible place to stay in Madrid.
We will be back to stay here in the future.

The good thing about the hotel is how central it is, however as tourists we found the staff quite rude and short with us, you can hear everything through the walls, parties, people talking in the corridors, the kitchen staff working at all hours, chairs moving in other rooms, shouting from the street and people dragging their luggage through the corridors. We found it very hard to get to sleep for our 4 nights we stayed. The breakfast was basic, more cold things to eat than hot, I would recommend for the location but not for anything else

Clean hotel and nice Place. We had a miscommunication about our passports (our fault). We fixed the problem together but they were very rude about it while we were stressing after a long day of traveling and making fun of us in our faces (probably bc we were foreigners) But in overal it was a okay hotel! Could use a bit of professionalism.

Fine hotel with lovely staff who are very accommodating. However, there is almost no soundproofing between rooms. We had to move at first due to our neighbour snoring extremely loud. For the price we paid, we expected a bit more quiet and nicer facilities in general.

you hear everything!
that describes the hotel best.
you hear the insides of every single room around you! even from directions you didn’t know that there are rooms. so if you want a good nights sleep or rest during the day, you better go somewhere else.

I had a great experience at this hotel. It's clean, central, well-decorated, offers a nice breakfast, and has friendly staff. That said, it does not offer anything luxurious if that is what you are looking for. I would recommend them and would consider staying there for my next stay in Madrid.

I am a professional conference organiser and I stay in many hotels, this one was for holidays not business.
It was a pleasure. What lovey hotel staff you have. They were always very friendly, helpful and with a smile. The hotel has a very nice ambience, in fact it did not feel like an Ibis hotel... Very comfortable hotel. Nice bathroom and especially the shower. Good internet. Nice decour. But what made it the best was your people. They should be congratulated. Thank you for making my stay a good one. (I had just come from a 4 star hotel from a conference in another city.... terrible , this was so much better!

The lobby is modern and customer service is very good. They explained us everything about hotel and services and offered info about the city.
Room had plenty of room and it was clean. Perfect to stay in this hotel with the family.
It's not far away from the nicest stores and there are plenty of restaurants around where you can walk and eat.

Not what I expected:
- unfriendly staff (question: "can my room be made before 2pm?" rude reply: "No!".). Totally inappropriate behaviour.
- no heating in the room! (in Madrid from November to April temperatures below 5 Celsius are not unusual). They don't offer electric heating at the reception. And blankets are super thin. So, if you want to catch a cold, stay there for a couple of nights!
- a Mini-TV, 4 meters from bed fixed at the wall between the two windows
- shabby, run down rooms in need of renovation. Windows not sound proofed, party zone noise all night long.
-no room safe, no hand towels, no real coffee (only 3 sachets decaffeinated coffee but 15 sachets of sugar).
- housekeeping: towels on the floor not replaced, no new coffee
- breakfast area totally uninspired, between reception desk, stored luggage, hotel guests walking in and out and the lift.
And all that for rates of more than 125 Euro per night. A big disappointment.

Very good hotel with a location just outside Puerta del Sol that is hard to beat. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Rooms were comfortable, and no more cramped (from a North American hotels perspective) than your typical hotel room in Europe, with storage shelves, a safe, and a desk. The bed was a bit more firm than I usually like, but it wasn't bad. The breakfast offered on the 1st floor (for 14€) was decent. You are an easy walk from so many highlights of central Madrid - the Royal Palace, Museo del Prado, El Retiro, the Botanical Gardens, and more.
Julia Crown★★★★★
We had a great stay. The hotel is on the Plaza de Puerto del Sol, so you can walk to the Royal Palace (get tickets in advance) or to the Queen Sofia Museum and the Botanical Garden. The reception desk was always friendly and helpful and everyone we met spoke Spanish and English. You can ask for ice from the front desk. Our room was well air-conditioned.

Location was great! Staff was very nice and accommodating. Room was nice and terrace is great. We were able to even see the eclipse! Would definitely stay here again.

I had a pleasant experience. Staff is very friendly helpful and professional. Room is very clean. Large bathroom and the actual bedroom is small but good enough clean and comfortable. There is a hair dryer, a closet with a safe. A small desk. No fridge. I loved that it is parquet no carpet so it is great for allergies. The location is the best, you walk out and you are at the heart of the city with so many options for food and shops. A short walk to Gran Via and all the places you need to go, there is a metro station near by but not even needed as you can walk everywhere and enjoy the walk. Taxi at the airport is a fixed rate if 33 euros which is great if you arrive late at night. It cannot drive to the entrance but you can walk because it is a walking square and it is full of people all the time. The hotel room I had was on the sixth floor. No noise at all from the outside but the rooms are not well insulated so you can totally hear everything if you have noisy neighbors speaking loud. In Spain speaking loud is very normal. But they were respectful at night you don’t hear anything just during the day I could hear conversations as if they were in my room 🙂 but it doesn’t last too long because everyone is on the go they just come in like me to change and go out again. The breakfast is descent. I don’t eat pork but I found eggs omelette and yogurt and fresh fruits (kiwi pineapple oranges salad) and cantaloupe. The coffee is amazing they have Lavazza capsules which were my favorite. And they also have a machine that makes lattes and cappuccinos as well as a filter coffee so you have choices as well as tea and hot milk available. They have toast and other kinds of break as well as butter, chocolate spread , cheese like manchego which I love and tomato both French tapenade and fresh slices. Pastry and cakes were available too. Olive oil Tabasco sauce and charcuterie but I don’t eat pork so I skipped that. The waiter Vanessa is so sweet and professional. She is welcoming and attends to every detail. I felt safe welcomed and had a very convenient stay. They also have a lounge in the first floor near the breakfast restaurant. There you find a printer etc but also a nice seating area with wifi to relax. A/c worked perfectly and it is only a block or two from the four seasons hotel so the location is 10/10. I highly recommend it. As a bonus I want to let you know that you can walk from this hotel to Cibele plaza not far at all like 20 mins walk and you find a 24 hour bus to the airport that only costs 5 euros and can pay inside the bus when you get in. Cash or card both accepted. It runs every 15 mins. It said it takes 40 mins to get to the airport but there was no traffic. It took less than twenty minutes.

Great 6-night stay! The hotel is in an amazing location, close to everything: sightseeing, shopping, food and transportation. Comfortable rooms and a good breakfast and coffee. A special thanks to the friendly staff who helped us resolve a personal travel complication with great empathy. Even though the hotel was busy, they made sure we were taken care of. We'll definitely be back!

An absolutely phenomenal experience at Riu Hotel Madrid! 🇪🇸✨
From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, informative, and helpful. The service was exceptional, and every detail made our stay feel special.
The amenities were impressive, but the rooftop was definitely one of the highlights! The views, atmosphere, and service were simply wonderful. It was an unforgettable experience and a beautiful way to enjoy Madrid from above. 🌇✨
The breakfast was fantastic—so many delicious options, everything was fresh, and there was absolutely no waiting. It was the perfect way to start each day.
Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations. I would definitely come back and highly recommend Riu Hotel Madrid to anyone visiting the city. The combination of excellent service, beautiful amenities, a spectacular rooftop, and a wonderful location makes this hotel truly special.
Thank you for making our stay so memorable! We can’t wait to return! ❤️🇪🇸

Very nice hotel with great staff and good opportunities inside the hotel. Rooms very spacious and clean, with refrigerator, locker and AC. Very nice view to the street. The breakfast was fantastic with various opportunities and high quality.
The hotel has 2 roof top which are very nice specially at night and they have bar and restaurant there. As a hotel guest you have the priority to use the roof top bar when it is so crowded which was nice.
The location is perfect, close to city center by 10, 15 min walk, close to sightseeing and so close to metro and bus stations( metro is exactly in front of the hotel).
Highly recommend:)

This was our second stay at Riu Plaza and it was just as wonderful as the first time. It is spotlessly clean, well organized, and run with real precision. The location is unbeatable too, right on Plaza España, which is simply stunning. I do want to mention two small issues, especially since this was our second visit and we’re Riu Class members. We booked almost a year in advance and specifically requested a room with two separate beds, since I was traveling with my daughter, but we were given a room with one large bed instead. We had also asked for a high floor and ended up on the 6th. The other issue is about the rooftop, which is genuinely magnificent and one of the reasons the hotel is such a must for visitors. The problem is that non guests are can pay to go up and take photos on the glass platform, which means there’s a constant line late into the evening. As actual hotel guests, we never managed to get up there for even a single photo. Given what you pay to stay here, it would be nice if there was a separate line, or priority access, for guests only…

Here's a polished hotel review you can post:
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is excellent, with comfortable, spacious, and very clean rooms. The breakfast was outstanding, offering a wide variety of fresh and delicious options to suit every taste. The staff was friendly and professional, making our stay even more pleasant.
There are just two points worth mentioning. First, the hotel is located in a very central area, which is convenient for sightseeing, restaurants, and shopping. However, because of the busy location, you can occasionally hear police and ambulance sirens from outside. Second, since it is a very large hotel with many rooms, the elevators can become quite busy during peak hours, and you may need to wait a little longer. Overall, these were minor inconveniences, and we would definitely recommend this hotel.
Tineke Heirman★★★★★
We really liked the family room in this hotel. It is also very centrally located so you can walk to most places, call a taxi or use the underground. It has a fabulous rooftop and a secure way to use the elevator (you can only reach your own floor). Only, the breakfast can be a bit busy if you go after 9

Overall, the hotel is clean, smells good, and the garden is beautiful, but it needs some refreshing, the pool area and the walls in the rooms. Only reason I gave a 4 to the hotel staff is because the housekeeping left a dirty glass in our sink, which wasn't ours, took our key card from the socket by the door when we left it there by mistake, and the coffee and milk were not replaced at all, but that may be because of the difference in standards between the United Kingdom and Spain. The location is perfect! Pool is clean, bar is nice, but working hours are 11-19:00, so early mornings and evenings are not possible.
Ashley Vallot★★★★★
Honestly best hotel I've ever stayed at. The sunset from the roof us a must. It's beautiful. The room was really nice bit of noise from the street but expected with balcony room. I'd stay here again for sure. Amazing stay. The staff were very helpful. The door to balcony wasn't working when we got there and someone came to fix it immediately. Also one of the sockets in the room was very loose and I didn't feel safe using it at all, definitely a hazard but I used a different one instead for my stay.

I really enjoyed my stay at Inhala.
We had a superior double room so a beautiful terrace and sun loungers came with the room. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was gorgeous. I was not expecting the room to be cleaned every day so thank you to the cleaners and their hard work.
The rooms do need updating they are tired and the walls are a bit shabby but I’m happy if somewhere is comfortable and clean.
The pool was stunning to say the least. The restaurant served gorgeous food.
The staff are helpful and the usual Madrid hospitality to be expected
Vikram Bakshi★★★★☆
I’d rate the rooms 3/5 overall, based on the average of the two rooms we stayed in during our visit.
We were initially assigned Room 440 and were disappointed by its condition. The room felt worn, with stained carpeting and dated finishes that didn’t match the photos on the hotel’s website. The bathroom also featured an unusual sand-under-plexiglass floor that wasn’t to our taste.
After the first night, we spoke with the front desk again. The gentleman who assisted us listened to our concerns and quickly moved us to a newly updated room at no extra charge. The difference was significant, and the new room was excellent. His customer service turned the experience around.
The hotel’s location is outstanding—right in the heart of Madrid, steps from Gran Vía and with a Metro station directly across the street. The property is attractive, parts of it have been nicely renovated, and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
One thing I would skip is the breakfast buffet. At €16 per person, it didn't offer great value. We tried it on our first morning, but for the next two days we chose to explore nearby cafés instead. Given the location, you're surrounded by countless cafés and bakeries within a short walk where you can enjoy a better and more authentic breakfast experience for the same price or less.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel, but I suggest paying close attention to the room type you book, as the quality can vary considerably.
This hotel should be getting 4.5+ ratings if the rooms were better based on location and the great staff but I can see why they are stuck between 3.5-4.0 stars.
Helena Nuño Nuño★★★★★
Majestic decor in a strategically-located area downtown Madrid. 360-degree views of Madrid's skyline and nearby green areas. Worth taking bath suit, flip flops and towel for a full experience in its rooftop pool. During the Pride Week, don't feel guilty for not looking at every detail of the terrace, and instead, admiring the sculptural bodies passing by or having a calm, respectful bath.
Refreshing vertical garden, although not as accessible as it deserves. The hotel offers tour guides at set hours, for about 25 Euros.

We stayed here for a long weekend in Madrid to see a concert. The reception staff were really helpful, especially when we had trouble getting our tickets sorted, they took the time to help us. Breakfast was good with a decent spread, and the rooms are stylish and clean. The location is central and easy to get around from, yet the place was surprisingly quiet despite being right in the middle of the city. We’d happily stay again.

A lovely, modern hotel with airy rooms and a good vibe. The firm beds were very comfy!
It's in a great location, near enough to the tourist sights to be easily walkable, but nestled in the funkier, lively old streets of the malasaña district which have a multitude of eclectic shopping and loads of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Left luggage lockers and bike hire available.
Highly recommended.

This is the second time I've stayed at Hotel Francisco I and it was even better than I'd remembered! The rooms are very clean, the central location is in walking distance of all major sites and shopping neighborhoods, and every member of the staff goes out of their way to be helpful. The highlight is the fantastic breakfast buffet! A huge array of options, including for people with dietary restrictions and various tastes and coffee drink preferences. Also, rely on the team to order a taxi for you for the airport; this worked out really well for our large party. Thanks to all who made our stay great!

This was a pretty terrible stay. There was absolutely no soundproofing whatsoever. It was impossible to sleep at night, it felt like the windows were wide open because you could hear even the faintest noise. If you position yourselves as a 4-star hotel in the city center, proper soundproofing is a must. You could hear everything, down to the toilets flushing and hair dryers running in the neighboring rooms.Staying in the room during the day was also impossible. Construction work was going on from 9 AM to 7 PM, and the noise was splitting my head open.Another huge disappointment was the breakfast. When will hotels finally level up? Before checking in, I asked if there would be vegan options available, specifying that I meant more than just soy milk, tomatoes, and cucumbers. They said, 'Yes, of course!' In the end, I came down for the breakfast I had already paid for, asked the staff for the vegan food, and they just pointed me to a cucumber and tomato salad. Come on, it’s the 21st century! You could at least pay attention to your guests' requests and buy some vegan cold cuts. They usually come in packs of 4–6 slices, which would easily fix the issue and make a difference.

This hotel is excellent. We will definitely come back! We really had a great experience with this hotel. Augosto, Laura, Chester and Jam were amazing. They were the hotel concierge that always have smiles on their faces and really accommodating. Tony, Darren and the rest of the kitchen staffs were really good. It felt like home. We’re Filipinos and the staffs really took care of us as if we were back home. Thank you for the hospitality. They even made garlic fried rice for us. It was exceptional. Thank you for making our Madrid holiday a memorable one. Gracias!

This was the perfect boutique hotel for our stay. The room was small, but I don't find that uncommon in Europe. And truthfully, the location and setting were stellar. I don’t often write reviews, but have to for this one.
I felt I was misled on what this “hotel” actually is. First off, it’s hard to find on the street because this isn’t a stand alone hotel - in fact, there are several hotels (and maybe a family?) in this building, which means you will need to enter through a common door and climb 3-4 flights (did I mention yet that the elevator can only fit 1 person and was having issues when we were there, locking my wife in it during a time when there was no front desk to help?) to get to your room? That’s on top of the awkward encounters of people rushing in behind you into the building so they don’t have to put in the code to get through the front door - an uncomfortable feeling when in an area you’re not familiar with.
Yes, the rooms seemed to be pretty clean, and matched the pictures reasonably well - but the 3-4 flights up, relatively unusable elevator, very small rooms with limited outlets, crammed furniture (we couldn’t open our closet because the air conditioner was in the way), and part time front desk proved to make this “hotel” less convenient than we thought, and really just a very overpriced hostel.

Good experience. Small hotel in the city center in an historical building. 100 meters from Sol metro. Kind employees. Relatively small room, but good beds and bathroom. Airco works well.

Condition of rooms are very clean, bright and modern. Seems like a new renovation. Location is at the heart of Sol station, Grand Via. short walk to most places of interest and surprisingly not noisy at all. Plenty of food to choose and at least 3 large department stores. Service is top notch, personalized with WhatsApp and they are very prompt and helpful. We are every happy to chose this Woohoo.
Nixon Cruz★★★★☆
The experience was excellent and we are very satisfied. The only thing we found difficult was the elevator, which was only for one person, and having to go up and down three floors to stay together with the group. We understand that the hotel is located in a historic building and hope they can update their equipment to resolve this single issue. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Stayed here for a few night and had a great time! The hostel has an amazing location right by the Main Street (Grand Via) which has loads of shops and affordable places to eat! It was also well connected to tourist attractions with nearby metro and bus stops. We had a room of 3 which was clean and had a sink and a shower (we shared a toilet) which were all kept clean with daily room services. My only complaint was that there was no air conditioning which was a bit tough in 35C weather but there was a fan. There is also a kitchen area which is pretty basic but has a fridge, sink and microwave. Staff were also helpful and friendly. Overall would recommend!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of our favourite hotel stays!
From the moment we arrived at B&B HOTEL Madrid Centro Puerta del Sol, we felt genuinely welcomed. The hotel is modern, spotless and in a perfect location, and our room was beautifully clean with an incredibly comfortable bed and a lovely balcony.
The shared kitchen area is such a great touch, with coffee, water, biscuits and fresh fruit available — everything was always immaculate.
But what really made our stay special was Cristina at reception. What an absolute gem! Every single time we passed reception, she greeted us with a big smile and a few friendly words. She was warm, helpful and genuinely cared about the guests. We even saw her constantly making sure the kitchen and reception areas were spotless. Her positive energy made us feel so welcome and made our stay in Madrid even more memorable.
Cristina is a fantastic ambassador for this hotel and truly deserves recognition. ❤️
We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I highly recommend this hotel! It boasts an excellent location: situated extremely centrally in the heart of Madrid, right next to Puerta del Sol and close to Gran Vía. Major sights, museums, and the Royal Palace are all within easy walking distance. The room was spacious, furnished in a modern style, and featured a very comfortable king-size bed along with a king-size TV. Given its superb location and excellent room amenities, the hotel offers great value for money. I was particularly delighted to find a small bag - containing a pastry and a small bottle of water - hung on my door early each morning. Equally fantastic is the fact that the 24-hour lounge located in the basement offers complimentary coffee, tea, juices, fresh fruit, and cookies. Cristina and her team were incredibly accommodating and attentive - always helpful and friendly, particularly when it came to providing sightseeing tips and explaining the hotel's amenities. I will definitely be back.

I can say that for the price we paid, our 9 day stay at the hotel was really pleasant. The hotel is very well located steps aways from many different places and points like big store, cultural sites, cafes , supermarkets, pharmacies etc. If you are looking for a hotel where you can have everything in the same place this is your hotel. The only think that you need to know is that because of it central location inside a boulevard, taxis won’t have easy access, but they can pick you up and drop you off from a street very close to the hotel so walking with your luggage won’t be an issue. Most of the time while enjoying Madrid we were walking so taking a taxi was not an issue. The hotel also arranged our taxi to go to the airport and everything went smoothly. We had water and pastries every morning at our door and the hotel has a kitchen area where there is plenty of fruit coffe milk, a microwave, tables , cookies and other snacks that save your life. Sometimes we will go to the supermarket across the street, buy something and eat it at the hotel downstairs. Very convenient.
The room was nice, we appreciated that it has air conditioner, the mattress was not very comfortable but the rest of the room and experience was so good that I never had problem sleeping. The guys at the front desk were very friendly and always answered to our questions and requests, also they have 24 hours service which is great. The hotel was not noisy, we could see that they care for their guests rest, and we could not hear anything from the outside even though we were in the middle of a very congested street. Also, the hotel has a police station next to it so you will find many police officers and security around so you can safely walk late at night and feel comfortable. I will stay again in the hotel since overall it was a great experience. Thanks !

We had a wonderful stay at B&B Madrid Centro Puerta del Sol. The location was perfect — right in the heart of Madrid and within walking distance of major attractions, restaurants, and shops. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet despite the central location. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, making everything very easy and welcoming.
We especially appreciated the thoughtful extras, like the free pastries and bottled water delivered to the room every morning. The complimentary food and snacks available 24/7 in the lounge were also a fantastic touch and made our stay even more comfortable and convenient.
Overall, it was a great experience and we would happily stay here again when visiting Madrid.

Best location: 50 meter away from Centro Puerta del Sol
The front desk people are also very nice and helpful.
A very cozy and welcoming hotel. Every morning, they hang delicious pastries right on your door, which is such a thoughtful touch. Downstairs, there’s also a variety of fresh fruit, cookies, and biscuits available. The whole place feels incredibly warm and inviting.
I’d definitely give it a 5/5.

We had a wonderful stay! The rooms were very clean, cozy, and comfortable. There is convenient parking available at a very reasonable price, which is a huge advantage, especially in the city center.
The breakfast was delicious and also very reasonably priced. The location is fantastic—everything is within walking distance. Despite being in the center, the rooms were very quiet, and we couldn’t hear any noise from outside.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We truly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this hotel to anyone!

I found this hotel perfectly located to explore the city. A lot of areas of interest within walking distance and multiple metro stops easily accessible in surrounding neighborhoods when I needed to venture out further.
Room air-conditioning and wifi both excellent, as was the water pressure and temperature in the shower. Comfort of the bed and pillows wasn't great, but adequate. I found that most hotels in Spain and Italy stick to very firm mattresses.
Breakfast was better than expected with enough options to cater to different tastes and a bit of daily variety.

I had an excellent experience at Leonardo Hotels Madrid and I highly recommend this hotel!
The location is a big advantage – it’s very well situated, close to all the main attractions in Madrid, making it extremely easy to get around and explore the city.
The rooms were spotless, well-maintained, and very comfortable. Housekeeping was done daily, which really added to a pleasant and relaxing stay. The shower was also a highlight – great water pressure and excellent overall quality.
Breakfast definitely deserves a special mention: it was varied, fresh, and very tasty. I highly recommend it as the perfect way to start your day.
The staff were incredibly kind and attentive. The reception team was very friendly and always ready to help, and the breakfast staff were just as welcoming and professional.
Overall, I was absolutely delighted with my stay and would definitely come back!

Located right next to a gas station and busy road, but ultimately accessible. Staff was super welcoming and accommodating. The hotel rooms were modern, updated, clean, and accommodating to our needs. The lobby is very neat and clean as well.

The hotel is in an excellent location, conveniently situated within walking distance of the metro station, making it easy to explore Madrid. The room was clean, comfortable, and cozy, offering great value for the price.
The hotel staff were friendly, welcoming, and always willing to assist with any requests. In addition, parking facilities are available, which is a great convenience for guests traveling by car.
Overall, I had a pleasant stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Madrid.

Hotel is in a great location, a short walk from the main train station, about 30mins from the airport in a taxi and easily accessible on the metro. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful.
The room is lovely, great size, big bathroom. The hotel has a lovely rooftop bar and a terrace with a great bar. Jennifer was our server, she was so friendly and welcoming.
Highly recommend and we will return.

We had a wonderful time at the hotel. All the amenities were great. We had a great time at the pool and we absolutely loved the terrace! Our bartender was Spyros and he was very pleasant and did a great job making sure we were happy and had our glasses full, always with a smile! From top to bottom, the experience at this hotel was fantastic and we would definitely come back.

The room was very comfortable, good linens, it was spacious and I was supposedly upgraded to a deluxe room. The only issue was that the deluxe room had no natural light, the window led to the inner area part of the hotel.
The premises were in very good conditions and the bathroom was also nice and spacious.
The only thing that was confusing were the halls, it sort of felt like a maze.

Very noisy at night with people in the street late at night. The garbage bins are below the window and come around 5 to 6 am, folllowed by the street cleaners. There is major street construction with heavy jack hammer machinery starting at 8am sharp until 5 pm. These things make for a very loud environment and difficult to sleep and wake you up early.
However, the room was clean, suitable size, it's Europe, and offered towels and toiletries. We did have to ask for fresh towels and more body wash on day 3 of 4. They were accommodating but housecleaning didn't do anything even though we put the sign on our door daily to please make up our room.
That was disappointing as we spent 4 nights there.

Room was great for our 2 night stay. Great location, just off Sol, ideal for metro to anywhere, perfect for Chamartin for the AVE. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby, Cava Baja 10 minute walk, Gran Via 10 minute walk.

We noticed on the first night that the air-conditioning in our room wasn't working so I contacted the staff about it the next morning. We were advised that they will send someone to fix the aircon later that day. There was no one at reception on-site while we stayed so we could only communicate with them via whatsapp. No one ended up fixing the issue and they stopped responding to us and ignored all of our calls by the evening.
It was a very hot day in Madrid and we had to stay in a 30 degree celsius (86 f) room. The staff showed no empathy in the situation nor did they offer a solution when we requested for a change of room or a refund. After this horrible experience, we just wanted to get out of there but we were met with an even worse customer experience with the owner of the property. He did not listen to what we had to say and made horrible accusations about my character in order to deflect from having to provide me with a full refund.

on the first day, we found used dental floss on the bed. The last day, a cockroach appeared from under the counter. The breakfast was horrible! no options, no awareness of all the tourist who eat other foods. everything was terrible! Other than that, the location was very centric and it was very good. The worker at the breakfast counter was a little rude. Overall, our stay was pretty good other than the obvious issues at the breakfast and the cleaning things.

Excellent location. Awesome staff, especially at the reception and hats off to the cleaning staff. They don't speak English but go out of their way to assist. Breakfast during peak time gets noisy. Wait at the elevator could be long. However the warm friendly staff make the hotel a fantastic experience.
מיכל ליבוביץ★★★☆☆
The location is exceptional and the daily cleaning was a plus. However, the rooms are tiny with no storage space. We were given two single beds pushed together, and the staff was unhelpful when we asked for a double bed or even just double linens. No basic amenities like soap or slippers were provided. Great spot, but disappointing service and comfort for a long stay.
Thanos Nikolaides★★★★☆
Nested in the heart of Madrid, with rooms overseeing Gran Via. Impressively clean rooms, normal sized eith total absence of anything except soap (no toiletries, no slippers, no mini bar), which for the money charged seemed strange, yet not diminishing the experience. Parking is nearby .
Sebastien Crepieux★★★☆☆
The location is amazing as well as the customer service but:
Suggestions:
- Improve the walls soundproofing between rooms.
- Refill the coffee in the room every day after room service.
- Enhance the quality of breakfast.
- Ensure the elevator is not squeaking while in use. It’s unsettling and can be easily fixed with some grease.
The soundproofing was a significant issue. The walls were paper-thin, which was unacceptable for an hotel of this caliber.
On the second day after room service, we discovered that we had no coffee refill in our bedroom. When we inquired at the front desk, they informed us that it was a complimentary service for the first night only. We were quite surprised by this information. Despite this inconvenience, the customer service was excellent. They promptly contacted the room service and requested that they bring two more coffee pods for the second morning.
The breakfast quality was disappointing. The fruits were not fresh, and the eggs were not great either. Overall, we were not impressed with the breakfast.
On a positive note, when we requested a taxi for five people on the morning of our departure, the front desk promptly arranged for a suitable vehicle to be waiting for us.

My husband and I have a two week stay at this hotel and we could not recommend it more highly. The location is what drew us to the hotel but the service will keep us coming back. The entire team is incredible. We have gotten to know the staff in the breakfast salon and the restaurant in the lobby quite well, and they’re all very attentive, professional and kind. The housekeeping staff are also responsive and friendly, as we also did laundry during our trip. Special gratitude to Jose, Cassio, Fatima and the other incredible staff who took care of us for two weeks!
You made us feel at home during our time working remotely in Madrid. Thank you!

This wonderful hotel offers beautifully maintained facilities, a calm and relaxing atmosphere, and an excellent breakfast that sets the tone for a great day!
What truly makes the difference, however, is the people. The professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail shown by the entire team are exceptional and create an experience that is both seamless and memorable.
A place that truly understands the meaning of hospitality. We look forward to returning.

Cassio, our bar server was fantastic. He enjoyed practicing his English as I struggled with my Spanish. While the food was great (cheese selection - perfect!) I think Cassio was even better- service with a smile, attention to detail, and kind to every patron… even the grouchy English couple 2 tables away from us. Thank you 😁

I rarely write reviews, but this hotel truly deserves one.
This was my second stay, and from the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely welcomed. Being recognized as a returning guest was already a lovely surprise, but what touched me most was being greeted with warm birthday wishes and such thoughtful attentions from the team. It may seem like a small gesture, but it made me feel incredibly special and cared for.
The hotel itself is fantastic: incredibly comfortable beds, peaceful and quiet rooms, and one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time. Everything is designed to make you feel relaxed and at home.
A special thank you to Julia, Álvaro, and the entire reception team. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine warmth made me feel truly welcome from the moment I arrived. They are a real credit to the hotel and a big part of the reason why I look forward to coming back.
There are many beautiful hotels in Madrid, but very few places make you feel at home. This is one of them. It’s the little details, the genuine care, and the people behind them that make all the difference.
Thank you to the whole team for another wonderful stay. I can’t wait to return!

We have used this hotel many times over the years. Its recent interior refurbishment has been successful. The location is hard to beat for connectivity, being a short walk from Estacion Atocha, the Metro, the city terminus of the 203 airport bus and a host of local buses. Rooms overlooking the Paseo del Prado or the C de Atocha are very well soundproofed. Breakfast is from a vast self-service selection in a spacious room.

Building is shared between multiple hostels, so make sure you go to the right floor. They share service personnel during night, a guy sitting at the entrance floor. No real 24/7 staff. Practice your Spanish because the English spoken is not great.
The rooms looks like they are from the 90’s and haven’t been updated in a while. Still spacious and have nice amenities, like Netflix on the TV, aircon, hair dryer and fridge.
The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from central Madrid and very accessible to the Metro. The area is quite lively with great restaurants and fantastic bars very close by.
Since the building is old it gets very noisy, you hear everything from people snoring and using the restroom. If someone is walking in the hallway it sounds like an army marching through.
Cheap lodging attracts cheap people, so we had some nights with loud party music at 4 in the morning and drama intense neighbors crying.

They don’t provide the customer service you could expect. There are tons of options around, avoid this tourist trap.

THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE. someone tried to break into our room at 3am since the doors to the hotel itself are often open and there is no 24/7 reception. We paid 200 euro/night for this place. Banging into my door woke me up and some man tried to convince us to let him in and when we refused he started to bang into the door, trying to break it. I tried contacting the hotel, called the police. We receive no apology and no refund. The worst travel experience ever

We enjoyed our stay here.
Great location: short walk to Plaza del Sol. Lots of restaurants and shops. Have a Carrefour Express right across the road.
Great service: every staffs, we met, were super friendly and helpful.
Room: Clean with basic amenities. The mattress was in good condition.
Building: got an old elevator with door that you have to manually open/close. Not a bad thing. I think it adds to character.
Ioanna G.★★★★★
For the cost, very clean, beautiful room, perfect bathroom, and right in the center! It wasn't noisy at all despite the parties happening in the building close to our hostel. To enter the building you must unlock the front gate and then your room door, but during the day the gate and the hostel front door is left open, and sometimes the reception is on another floor so maybe there should be more supervision for safety. Likely the room has an electronic window blinder so it is very safe and silent in the room. The elevator is old-school type but we liked it because it made our stay more fun. The reception is very friendly and kind but they did not speak english. Also they have a table with little discount cards for all kind of museums and restaurants, make sure to look or it.
All in all, DEFINITELY recommend if you do not want to spend a lot of money but want to stay in a nice room in an amazing location!

I was happily surprised that the reviews for this 2-star hotel were spot on. We loved the location — it was right near the train station, with restaurants, a museum, and souvenir shops just downstairs. We barely had to go far, which was perfect since we only planned to stay one night. We're so glad we made time for something fun and memorable like the Ikono Museum, which is fantastic for my autistic daughter. She loved every bit of it, and we got some wonderful photos to remember it by.
The room was clean and comfortable, with a working air conditioner — an absolute must during a heatwave. I was pleasantly surprised to find a bidet too, which is a huge plus, especially for Asian guests (iykyk!).
The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating throughout our stay. Even small gestures, like helping us carry our luggage on the way out, made a real difference. I should also mention the hotel is wheelchair accessible, which is a great plus for accessibility-conscious travelers.
Honestly, I was skeptical that a 2-star hotel could have so many glowing reviews, but now I understand why. They truly deserve another star for their hospitality.

A truly lovely old hotel! We loved our corner room with a fabulous view over the square. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the beds were so comfy. Quality linen and good sound proofing make it an excellent choice for a very rare combo of good rest and central location!

Hotel Mediodia is in an excellent location right next to Atocha Station, making it very convenient for sightseeing. The room was very clean and surprisingly quiet.
Staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. I especially liked the individual air conditioning, which lets you easily adjust the room temperature for comfort.
The Airport Express Bus (Line 203) stops nearby and runs from 6:00 to 23:30. Bolt or Uber to the airport is also a great option — faster and more convenient than taking trains, especially since it avoids transfers. The ride typically costs around €20–€26.
Great value for the location and comfort. Would stay again.
Suzanne Jones★★★★★
We had a great stay at Hotel Mediodia! The location was perfect - walking distance to museums, gardens, train station, wonderful restaurants. The room was small but very clean and the beds comfortable. We had a cute balcony and lovely view of the square behind the hotel, including the Reina Sofia Museum. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and open from 7-11am. I would definitely stay again!
Essential Tips for Booking a City Centre Hotel in Madrid
Navigating the Madrid hotel market requires a bit of local knowledge to ensure you get the best value and experience. The city has a unique rhythm, and where you stay dictates how you experience it. Keep these practical tips in mind when making your selection to avoid common pitfalls and maximize your enjoyment of the Spanish capital.
1. Look for "Silent" Interior Rooms
Madrid is a city that lives on the street, often until the early hours of the morning. If you are a light sleeper, a room facing an interior courtyard (habitación interior) is worth its weight in gold. While you sacrifice a scenic view of the street, you gain the ability to sleep soundly despite the vibrant nightlife below.
2. Verify the True Walking Distance
Don’t just rely on a hotel’s claim of being "central." Check the actual distance to the Puerta del Sol or the Prado Museum on a map application. Some hotels in the northern part of the Chamberí district or the edges of Salamanca market themselves as central but can still be a 25 to 30-minute walk from the historic core.
3. Understand the Taxi vs. Metro Access
If you plan to use public transport, ensure your hotel is within a 5-minute walk of a major Metro station. The central stations, such as Sol, Gran Vía, or Sevilla, can be crowded but offer direct links to the airport and train stations. If you prefer taxis or rideshares, note that some narrow pedestrian streets in the old town are inaccessible to cars, meaning you may have to drag luggage a few blocks.
4. Beware of "Breakfast Included" Costs
While a hotel breakfast is convenient, Madrid is a city of cafes. You can often get a better and cheaper breakfast of "pan con tomate" and coffee at a local bar just steps from your hotel for half the price of a hotel buffet. Unless the breakfast is free, consider venturing out to eat like a local.
5. Check for Seasonal Pricing Swings
Madrid is a major business and tourism hub, but prices fluctuate dramatically based on events. If your dates coincide with major trade fairs like FITUR (January) or ARCO (March), or the Champions League football matches, room rates can triple. Always check the city’s event calendar before assuming a hotel is overpriced or a bargain.
6. Prioritize Air Conditioning
While this might seem obvious, not all historic buildings have modern, powerful climate control. Madrid summers are brutally hot, with temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C (104°F). Read recent reviews specifically mentioning the AC performance during the summer months to ensure you won’t be sweating through the night.
Choosing the right hotel is the first step to unlocking the magic of Madrid. By staying in the heart of the city, you give yourself the freedom to explore at your own pace, returning to your room for a quick siesta before heading out for a late dinner. The city’s energy is infectious, and having a comfortable, well-located base allows you to immerse yourself in it fully.
Whether you opt for a grand historic palace or a sleek modern boutique, the key is to match the hotel to your personal travel rhythm. With the right preparation and a central address, your trip to Madrid is bound to be an unforgettable experience.
