Madrid’s dining scene has evolved into one of Europe’s most exciting culinary destinations, blending centuries-old traditions with bold, modern creativity. From family-run taverns that have barely changed in a hundred years to avant-garde kitchens redefining Spanish cuisine, the capital offers an extraordinary range of flavors. Whether you are visiting for a weekend or settling in for a longer stay, knowing where to eat can transform your experience of the city.
The foundation of Madrid’s food culture lies in its neighborhood bars and classic casas de comidas, where recipes are passed down through generations. Here, the essentials are simple: quality ingredients, generous portions, and an unwavering respect for tradition. Dishes like cocido madrileño, callos, and tortilla de patatas are not just meals but expressions of local identity.
At the same time, a wave of young chefs has brought international techniques and a fresh perspective to the table. They are reinterpreting Spanish staples with precision and playfulness, earning Madrid a growing number of Michelin stars and global recognition. This dynamic tension between old and new is what makes eating in the city so rewarding.
Navigating Madrid’s restaurant landscape can feel overwhelming, especially with so many options competing for attention in the historic center and beyond. The best approach is to balance your itinerary: reserve at least one or two standout dining experiences while leaving room for spontaneous tapas crawls through neighborhoods like La Latina, Malasaña, and Chamberí.
Price and atmosphere vary dramatically from one district to another. Touristy areas near Plaza Mayor often serve overpriced, mediocre food, while a ten-minute walk into a residential barrio can lead to a memorable meal at half the cost. Locals tend to eat late, with lunch starting around 2:00 p.m. and dinner rarely before 9:00 p.m., so plan your day accordingly.
This guide focuses on restaurants that consistently deliver excellent food, genuine hospitality, and a true sense of place. The selection includes historic institutions, neighborhood favorites, and refined dining rooms, ensuring there is something for every palate and budget. Each recommendation has been evaluated for quality, consistency, and its ability to offer visitors an authentic taste of Madrid.
Below, you will find a curated list of the best restaurants in the Spanish capital, followed by practical tips to help you eat like a local and avoid common tourist pitfalls.

Wowowowow where do I begin? We made reservations for 4PM and were immediately seated upon walking in. Every table was seated, a sign we were in the right spot. Our server, Sami, made the experience so delightful. Sami provided us with convincing recommendations, and his authentic opinion led us to this 5 star review. The foie gras appetizer was the absolute star of the show, like magic in our mouths. Navajas was incredible. Croquettes de Tuna and buñuelos de Bacalao were amazing and super fresh. The cheesecake we could swim in and still want more. We had the dry aged steak and enjoyed it thoroughly. They serve Vichy water as the sparkling water (our fave and we were excited to see it)!! We would come again to see Sami especially, so much gratitude for his guidance and energy! Would highly recommend to anyone that appreciates a meal that can make them feel like they are in heaven.

A Culinary Experience of the Highest Order.
Our visit to Restaurant Los Montes de Galicia was an extraordinary experience and exceeded our high expectations.
The service was also first-class. Ricardo was friendly, attentive, competent, and pleasantly unobtrusive – exactly what one expects in a restaurant of this caliber. The entire team contributed significantly to making the evening a truly special experience.Thank you Guys👌

For the first hour, the service was scattered. Our waiter mostly ignored us and sometimes served other tables that came after us.
The other server, Manuel, brought wine, opened it but didn’t pour it. He put it on the table with a loud thud. This was a pretty big miss, especially at this price point. I’ve never seen a waiter not want to pour out the wine.
The food was a mixed bag, but generally good. At this price point - double other restaurants - it should be. Cod croquettes were clearly an upsell, at 5 EUR each, and our server quickly pushed 6 on us. Fried artichoke was dry. Foie gras was too sweet.
Meats and fish were great, but came pretty late. These were really high quality. Secreto iberico and beef tenderloin were highlights. Turbot fish was great.
Dessert was solid. Cheesecake was worth it. In fact, they brought us a second cheesecake, which was really nice.
All-in-all, this would’ve been a solid (albeit expensive) 4/5. But I almost deducted a star because they kept pushing us to write a positive review. Manuel asked me for it twice. Then our server separately asked us for a tip. Great restaurants aren’t this pushy — they get the review based on what they deserve.
So, it’s a 4* restaurant. But they’re a bit overpriced and pushy. Don’t believe the 4.8* average.. it’s been gamed.
It’s a decent place but expect to spend 80+ EUR per person for food that you could get at probably half that price.

We had an incredible dinner at Los Montes de Galicia. The restaurant offers a beautiful take on contemporary Galician cuisine—perfectly blending traditional flavors with modern techniques.
Our server, Sammy, was excellent and recommended the fresh Turbot, which was cooked to perfection and easily the highlight of the night. We also ordered the marinated beef tataki, the croquettes, the Galician octopus, and the Iberico pork; every single dish was outstanding. The beef tataki, in particular, was a wonderful example of their fusion style. If you are looking for top-tier food and wonderful service in Madrid, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!"

We had an amazing experience at Los Montes de Galicia. From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional the atmosphere, the quality of the food, and especially the service. A special thank you to JJ for providing such professional, friendly, and perfect service throughout the evening. He truly made our dinner even more enjoyable.
The kid shoulder was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The dessert and wine selection were also outstanding and completed the experience beautifully. Every dish was prepared with great attention to detail.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Madrid. We will definitely come back!

Great food, fun atmosphere, and a really unique place. We tried the Crazy Tasting Menu and everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The cocktails were also excellent and served in very creative glasses.
The décor and overall vibe make the experience different from a typical restaurant, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening.
The only small downside is that the tables are quite close to each other, so it can feel a bit crowded when the restaurant is full. Other than that, we had a fantastic time and would definitely come back. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Madrid!

What a fun place! We were at their location across the street, called Chic. We wanted something different and this checked all the boxes. We had to order everything at the same time, but food and drinks came out quickly. Ask about portion sizes if you aren't sure - the bao buns are ordered by each bun, not i.e. a plate of 3 & the risotto was too large to eat by yourself. All of the drinks were tasty & they brought us a free shot at the end! We would visit again!

Rosi La Loca is a wonderfully ridiculous stop in Madrid, and I mean that as a compliment. This is not the place for a quiet, candlelit dinner where you whisper about life goals. It is bright, loud, colorful, creative, and committed to the bit. The energy is the main event. The food and sangria were good, but what you really remember is the room, the plating, the snakes holding drinks, the neon bathroom situation, and the general feeling that someone gave a design team sugar and no adult supervision.
The sangria was excellent, and the ham croquettes were the standout. Truly A+. Like lay-in-bed-later-thinking-about-them good. Service was also fun and friendly, which matters in a place this playful. It could easily become gimmicky and annoying, but it didn’t. The staff seemed to understand the assignment.
A couple of practical notes: the QR menu is terrible, so bring patience or someone at the table who enjoys fighting technology before dinner. Seating can also be a little awkward, depending on where they put you. I’d reserve ahead, go in expecting more “colorful outing” than traditional fine dining, and not make this your big romantic Madrid dinner unless your version of romance includes pink lighting and cocktail snakes.
Overall, I loved it. I’d score it a 4.5 that gets rounded up to a friendly 5. It is not quite a 5 in the traditional restaurant sense, but it absolutely delivers on what it is trying to be: fun, memorable, creative, and a little nuts in the best way.

My first dinner in Madrid and it was a great experience. Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere, and professional service. I arrived late due to a navigation issue, but the staff handled it gracefully and still welcomed me warmly. They also carefully accommodated my dietary restrictions and prepared a non-alcoholic celebratory shot for me. Bravas Locas and Burrata Alocada were delicious. Great value for the quality of the experience.

Saez Munoz (review prior to mine) said it all. Food was tasty, not particularly special nor memorable, service was lacking in engagement, Atmosphere = you should go.
Service wasn’t bad, but we expect excitement about recommendations and an acknowledging glance whenever they pass. We could feel something lacking, even without any issues. A bit underwhelming. Especially for the price.
J Smithy★★★☆☆
Overall a good experience but it lacked excellence because of a couple of minor issues which for the reputation the restaurant has and it’s on the Michelin Guide should not have happened. The welcome was warm and the table was perfect. We ordered our starters and one was the croquettes. Unfortunately these were simply placed on the table in a bowl with no attempt made at decoration etc, felt like we were in a normal Tapas bar rather than a restaurant, they were also served whilst our drinks were being poured. The other starter was presented well though cutlery was also present on the plate despite the table setting. The main course we both chose the sirloin and this dish tasted very good but needed some colour on the plate. The coffee ordered with dessert was missing though we were not charged. Our expectation was high and these minor points bring our rating down which is disappointing so hopefully the team can work with this feedback as we would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant. Also being a fan of history the staff did not make any attempt to offer a tour of the restaurant which I think would appeal to a lot of customers

Bodega de los Secretos is one of the most unique dining experiences in Madrid. From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've stepped into an underground castle, with stunning stone archways and historic vaulted chambers creating an unforgettable atmosphere. The ambiance alone makes this restaurant worth visiting.
The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the entire evening. The wine selection was excellent, perfectly complementing an outstanding meal. Every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely spectacular.
If you're looking for a memorable restaurant that combines incredible food, great wine, exceptional service, and a truly one-of-a-kind setting, Bodega de los Secretos is a must-visit in Madrid.

What a place!
I booked it months ago for me and my wife, and it was amazing! We had really nice place, the girls were so nice to talk to, the speak english really well. We had some croquetes with Iberico ham and tomato burrata for appetisers, and got some homemade bread with vegetable sauce. I was really amazed because bread is something important in our country, it was really nice and crunchy. For main dish she took rice with sea food, and I had grilled pyrenees entrecote and potatoes. The meat was so soft, so juicy, the flavours were amazing! The seafood risotto was also really good according to my wife, fresh, delitious!
We had some vine and there was no space for desert. The price was just little over 100 euros which is more than fair considering the amount of food we had and the place we went to. We will be returning to Bodega 100%!

A trully exceptional experience here at La MI Venta!
The food is amazing, we were 2 for dinner without booking, and after just a few minutes we could seat near the kitchen. It was a great show of skills and passion for the food.
Hand cut Jamón, meat cooked on the charcoal, great dishes coming one after the other.
We had a selection of a few and everything was amazing. The Entrecote was a bit rare but excellent quality and the waiter sent it back for an extra flame without questioning.
All this a few 100m from the Palacio!

It was a slightly chilly evening when we walked into this little restaurant for dinner. Since it was full when we arrived, we had to wait a bit, but the staff kindly brought us some ham soup to enjoy while waiting. The open-style “kitchen” looked so inviting that we couldn’t resist ordering the grilled T-bone steak and the house specialty, Secreto. For starters, we tried the grilled goat cheese salad over fresh apple jam, along with a platter named after the restaurant itself—Tapas La Mi Venta—which included sautéed bread crumbs, callos, vegetable stew, fried calamari rings, and chorizo.
The salad was a delightful surprise, highlighting the rich flavor of the goat cheese while the apple added a refreshing touch. Among the tapas, our favorite was the callos. Then came the main courses! The T-bone steak was grilled to perfection—juicy and flavorful—and paired wonderfully with the Padron peppers. The signature grilled pork tenderloin was also delicious.
The service was attentive throughout; the staff changed our plates promptly and frequently checked on how we were enjoying the meal. As a sweet final touch, they offered a small glass of Baileys to end the evening. It was a heartwarming dining experience.

We had dinner here and were truly impressed. The Bellota ham was absolutely fantastic – one of the best we have ever tasted. The Iberico pork and the fish were both delicious and perfectly prepared. We also enjoyed an excellent Ribera del Duero red wine that paired wonderfully with the meal.
We would especially like to thank our waitress, Alejandra, for her kindness, attentiveness, professionalism, and warm hospitality. She made our evening even more enjoyable.
We highly recommend La Mi Venta to anyone visiting Madrid and will definitely come back!

This was the best meal I had during the whole week I was in Spain. The two gentlemen that were working there were so nice to us and checked up on us regularly during our meal. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Incredibly delicious food we started with the ceviche, then had the spring rolls the steak and fries, broiled fish, and chocolate tart. Best we’ve had in a long time! We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent meal in a comfortable Restaurant.

We had a wonderful meal here on our first evening in Madrid. The service was great, all staff were very accommodating speaking English with us. We had two starters, two mains and two alcoholic drinks. The little tepenade and crackers that came before the meal were also delicious. They also served limoncello after the meal. We didn’t have a desert on this occasion as we were too full! Would highly recommend!

We were a group of 4 for dinner on a Wednesday night . We got a table on arrival . There is a cover charge of Eur3.50 which covers fresh bread , tapinade and crispy savoury biscuits . Still water was complimentary . The guacamole was excellent and went quickly with the tortilla chips . The ceviche was delicious with the right amount of spice and citrus . The chicken curry with coconut rice as well as the pasta with pesto and cheese were both really good but the pork ribs were superb . We were given complimentary limoncello shots with refills before dessert which was a really nice gesture and unexpected. The home made cheesecake ice cream with brandy sauce and the chocolate tart ( really a brownie ) went well with the semi melted meringue . All in all , a very good dinner experience and most certainly worth a visit . The service was exceptional and not rushed .

The location is really nice and the servers are friendly. The fish was not good. The burger and pork cheeks were good though. The bacalao with beets was really bad. The fish had no seasoning at all, not even salt. The beet puree was a strange pudding texture. The fact that two of us didn’t finish our food should have told them it wasn’t good. Also, we ordered the tartar (mango and avocados) but instead we received the Russian salad. It was good though.

Delicious food! I ordered the artichokes with jamon and the pork cheek stew. Both of them were exceptional. The stew had a very hearty and homemade feeling.
The portions were quite large, so they can definitely be shared between 2. For those 2+ a bottle of water and bread I paid 43€ (no tip included), but as I said the portions are large enough to share.
I visited solo, so it was easy to find a table, but I wouldn't suggest going at peak hours without a reservation if you have a group of 2+.
The staff speaks English and the dark haired waitress with the glasses was very polite and welcoming.

Gloria Bendita was the first restaurant we chose as we touched down in Madrid. If you’re looking for a place that has great steak, seafood, and sangria, this is your place.

What a fantastic restaurant in Madrid to visit. We made a reservation ahead of time and this place is definitely full in the evenings. We were told by our great server Raul that Angelita is run by two brothers, one responsible for the food and one for the drinks. We went with white and red wine to accompany our dishes and the choices were excellent. The dishes were spectacular in form and flavor. The presentation was a top tier. Roasted pepers with smoked sardine was a delicious entrance to our dinner. Beef tartare was without a doubt one of the best tartare we ever had and we had a lot. It was a burst of freshness and flavor of mustard was giving you that vibe of having of the best bite of ideal medium rare burger (that was my interpretation 🙂 We finished with pigeon sopas and Callos a la Madrileña which is a stew made of tripes. Both deep in flavor and pigeon sopas were definitely a great experience. To finish off we took a dessert which was again one of the best combination we had lately. In other words La Angelita is definitely a restaurant spot to visit without any hesitation ! Thank you again Raul w for a great dinner experience and your knowledge.

Angelita is one of those places that combines personality, detail and consistency in a very natural way. The space is elegant but relaxed, with a calm atmosphere that works equally well for a casual dinner or something a bit more special.
The food is well thought out and carefully executed, with clean flavours and a modern approach that never feels forced. Dishes show precision and balance, and there is a clear sense of identity throughout the menu.
The wine program is a standout, with a strong and interesting selection that clearly plays a central role in the experience. It adds depth to the meal and is worth exploring.
Service is attentive and professional, without being stiff, helping everything flow naturally.
Overall, a very complete experience. A place that knows exactly what it’s doing, and does it very well.

We had dinner at the bar here and it was fantastic. All the staff were incredibly nice, and knowledgeable. The ambiance was comfortable and relaxed. Excellent wine and cocktail selection. The restaurant really favors their specials and it is best not to pick it based on the menu you see online. As described in the bio it is farm to table so a lot of the ingredients are seasonal. We only ordered one item off their main menu.
If I was in Madrid again I would visit again

Dinner tonight at La Tasquería, a Michelin starred restaurant built around the concept of casquería cuisine: sustainable nose to tail cooking that respects and utilizes parts of the animal often overlooked in modern dining. What made the experience especially memorable was how thoughtfully they adapted the menu while still preserving the creativity and technicality of the restaurant’s philosophy.
The vegetarian focused menu included fried carrot tartlet with cumin, green salad, cherry tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil, spinach ricotta puff pastry, gazpacho with pico de gallo and coriander pani puri, vegetable pâté with crème olive sauce and pickles, roasted aubergine with pumpkin and red pesto focaccia, zucchini ricotta ravioli with fried kale, green bean tagliatelle with pil pil sauce and cod cheeks, cod with creamed spinach and sautéed vegetables, and a pistachio, amaretto and matcha mousse dessert with petit fours.
The adapted non pork/offal tasting menu featured duck rillette with pickles and vermouth gel, tuna tartare with lime and spicy mayonnaise, tartalete of beef testicles with Comté cheese and cherry tomato, pani puri with ropa vieja and bechamel, pickled beef tongue salad with shiso and fennel, lamb neck mole with crispy corn, guacamole and beans, veal sweetbread sando with coleslaw and spicy mayonnaise, duck hearts with corn, raspberry and liquorice, rabbit kidneys with stroganoff sauce, fried capers and mushrooms, and a dessert of chocolate, red chard, red berries and raspberry sorbet.
The full offal focused menu pushed the concept even further with pork snout taco with pickles and anchovy butter, foie terrine with Iberian pork jowl and veal sweetbread, pork snout with spicy sauce, smoked eel, potato crisps and spinach cream, alongside dishes featuring beef tongue, duck hearts, rabbit kidneys, lamb neck and sweetbreads.
Excellent wine service throughout with Godello from Valdeorras and Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero. Hospitality was warm, polished and genuinely thoughtful. A concept driven restaurant that fully delivered on execution as well.
Jaime Garcia Bolao★★★★★
La Tasquería in Madrid more than justifies its well-deserved Michelin Star. This is a restaurant that challenges preconceptions and rewards diners who are willing to step outside their comfort zone. If the idea of organ meat gives you pause, it should not—this is emphatically not your grandmother’s chopped liver and onions.
The cooking is deeply sophisticated yet never pedantic. Each dish shows remarkable technical precision while remaining grounded in flavor, balance, and pleasure. Offal is treated not as a gimmick but as a noble ingredient, elevated through thoughtful technique and modern sensibility. The result is cuisine that feels both daring and completely assured.
Equally impressive is the service: a staff that goes above and beyond to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm, they guide you through the menu with confidence and enthusiasm, ensuring that even first-time diners feel at ease.
La Tasquería is a celebration of culinary intelligence and courage—proof that nose-to-tail cooking, when executed at this level, can be refined, exciting, and unforgettable. A must-visit for anyone serious about contemporary Spanish cuisine.
Inga Krastina★★★★★
The food was very good, not more. The novelty element was not that strong for me, back home many of the items are still served rutinely. I added bull's testies and ducks' hearts to things tried, no need to repeat, and dodged things like brains and tripes, hurray. I liked best pig's tail and petit fours. I really loved seating at the bar, observing the command center of the service. However they might ease on the hard sell: I was already having an 80 euro menu, with plenty enough food on it. Maybe let's not add on a 17 euro two bite taco? And maybe let's learn about informed consent? As in, for payed items: would you like ... instead of we will serve you ... Anyway, having read reviews, I new this was coming, and I did not actively dodge it, but embraced this is as part of carcass picking philosophy of the restaurant. Only at the end this somehow detracted from the experience; excess is a form of failure.

I visited La Tasquería alone right after landing in Madrid, and it turned out to be quite an experience. This is not your typical Spanish restaurant — it’s fully dedicated to offal, celebrating nose-to-tail dining in a creative, modern way.
They only offer a set tasting menu (no à la carte options), so be prepared to trust the chef and go along for the ride. The staff were friendly, though language was a bit of a barrier, so the menu explanations were quite limited. (They apologized for the limited language) Still, the presentation and creativity of each dish spoke for themselves.
If you’re not a fan of offal, this place is probably not for you — but if you’re curious and open-minded, it’s a unique culinary experience that redefines how offal can be enjoyed. The flavors were bold and surprising, with an interesting and well-thought-out taste profile throughout the menu.
The only downside for me was the dessert, which was too sweet for my personal taste, but overall, it was a fascinating and memorable meal that I’m glad I tried.

Great restaurant with a bar area at the front and tables at the back. The tables for 2 are tiny and you are very close to the next table, we were lucky in that both neighbouring tables were finishing up as we arrived. Service was very efficient. Food was delicious. We had a bottle of wine (16.50),baby squid with salad, tortilla and a beef dish. The squid was so good we ordered a second portion. The bill came to a reasonable 42.40

We had a wonderful time at Taberna El Sur. The service was amazing as was the food. It was very busy, despite being fairly early on a Monday evening, and the crowd looked to be made up of more locals than tourists, which is always a good sign.
We had the iberico plate, moussaka, pork cheeks, octopus and garlic prawns. The only slight miss was that the prawns had a bit of grit in them, though the flavor was great. We tried a number of Spanish wines, each better than the last. Highly recommend.

we had a fantastic experience dining here! first of all, the restaurant is small but cozy and clean, with the staff welcoming us in as soon as we stepped through the door. the menu is english-friendly, so it was easy for us to order traditional spanish food. my favourite was the Chipirones a la plancha, the squid 🦑was seasoned well and cooked to perfection, happiness in every bite! the mayo paired really well with it, as well as the fresh salad. it was also nice to try the ham/mushroom croquetas and Tortilla de Patatas 🥔. the sweet and refreshing sangria was also the perfect drink alongside the dishes on a hot day. the host also gave us complimentary bailey shots after our meal, which was so nice 🫶 really recommend this place if you're looking to try some traditional, authentic spanish food and tapas!!! 💪🍷

We dined here as a group of three and had a great experience. The food was really delicious, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, which made our meal even more enjoyable. Definitely a great place to enjoy Spanish food in Madrid. Highly recommended!

This was not our first visit to this restaurant. We have been a number of times before, but I decided it was time for an update. This little bar is not a super deluxe dinning establishment, it is a wonderful Taberna with a good range of drinks including vermont on tap, typical of so many bars in Madrid. The wine list is small with a reasonable selection of good priced wines. A wonderful selection of starter and main dishes to enjoy. Don't over order there isn't the space on your table, service is good even when very busy. Tables are small and the stalls for table eating are smaller than most, but don't let this deter you, there is a bench seat against the wall running both sides of the entire length of the dinning area. It always appears to be busy so it can feel a little cramped, but that all adds to the atmosphere. During our meal we spoke to our neigbouring tables on one side a couple from Canada who first visited with their son and this was their second visit. On another table sat 4 young students they dine here regularly. Considering this the age ranges from young 20's , a couple in their 50's and us two young at hart retired 69 & 73 year oldies. I hope this all helps explain the warm welcome and wonderful atmosphere that makes this restaurant our favouite when visiting Madrid and I do suggest you give it a try, but remember it is a bar not a 5star restaurant, but excellent value for money Our bill may not be typical of others but we did go a little overboard with 4 starters between us, 2 mains and a shared desert not to mentioning bottles of wine, water, beer, liquors and coffees. Our total spend does include our tip for the great service.

I would not be lying if I said that this was one of the best meals of my life. Every bite felt like pure sin and the way to the holy land itself. Everytime you think you it cannot get better, the give you the greatest focaccia, the pies were immaculate and we had half an orgasm when we had that homemade ice cream. It tastes like the pick the strawberries and pistachios straight from the garden of Eden. Thank you so much!! The staff and the barkeeper were amazing and very attentive

This small 22-seat restaurant has received rave reviews for its excellent service and its Spanish-Argentine fusion menu. We did Spanish- Korean fusion yesterday. So it's sort of a theme.
While they are known for several of their main entrées such as their Mushroom Risotto and their two steaks (Sirloin and ribeye) which are imported from Argentina, we elected to go with two flights off their starters menu.
For the first round we had the Argentine Baked Empanadas, Fried Ceviche and a daily special of fresh scallops.
For round two, we tried the Spanish Experience, which included two glasses of Manzanilla and 120 grams of their 100% acorn-fed Iberian Ham (Certified PDO Guijuelo Salamanca). We also had a Cheese Tasting with four local cheeses. They included a soft blue Roncari, a mule's foot (Pata de Mulo), a cured sheep's milk and a raw cow milk smoked cheese.
I will comment on the second course first. Heaven! I really love Prosciutto de Parma. It is still the king, but Jamón Iberico 100% PDO, man, it's a really close second. They really control this black breed of pigs, feeding them a diet of acorns. These pigs are built for top tier ham. Everything is controlled about them during their lifetime. Cutting the meat is an art, similar to cutting sushi. You must train for many years to even be allowed around the best meats. The taste, high in fat, just melts in your mouth. Even better try it with a sip of a good Spanish red wine. Some whites too like the Manzanilla.
The cheese were a lot of fun to have with the meat. They also provided us with some rustic bread to have with the course. Some were drier and more savory and some were smooth. The Roncari was not too strong of a blue, still they provided a sweet tomato jam to cut the bite some people say is too strong.
The first course really danced around the fusion of the two cuisines. The fresh scallops were grilled and served on shells with a citrus sauce with fresh herbs. Perfectly cooked, the citrus and spices really brought out the flavor of the seafood.
Another complement to the scallops was the fried ceviche. I had never heard of such a thing. The small bites of fish are marinated in a lime mixture with ginger, garlic, cumjn and pepper and then lightly coated and deep fried. They are served with red onions and raw red Thai peppers and green jalapeños.
The smoothness of the scallops dish with the bite of the ceviche was really a nice contrast, all staying within the seafood world.
The Argentine Empanadas were filled with spinach, mozzarella, raisins and a béchamel sauce. The "mother sauce" pulled the whole filling together which oozed out for each delectable bite.
Thank you so much to Lidia for making our evening special. What a wonderful strong woman from Peru. She was helpful, and friendly and a real treat to have as our sever.
Yes it was another memorable dinner!

One of the greatest experiences I’ve had in Madrid. I’m genuinely surprised that this restaurant has not yet been awarded a Michelin star or recognized in the Michelin Guide.
Every dish we tasted was exceptional — beautifully prepared, full of flavor, and clearly crafted with great attention to detail. The service was professional and attentive throughout the evening, and the drinks were creative and thoughtfully curated. A truly outstanding culinary experience.

We had dinner here as a group of four and absolutely loved it. Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor, and the cocktails were outstanding 🍸
A special thank you to our lovely brunette waitress, unfortunately we didn’t catch her name. We ended up ordering a bit too much, and when we asked if it was possible to remove a couple of dishes, they kindly accommodated our request without any hesitation. It’s small moments like this that make all the difference. You genuinely feel listened to, and that’s what turns a great meal into a place you can’t wait to come back to 🤍
Lasha★★★★★
Our experience was elevated from the start by our waitress Andrea, who was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the menu. When I described the flavor profile I was looking for, she selected a wine that was absolutely perfect for the occasion. The bread, baked in house and served fresh, paired beautifully with the olive oil. We started with a melted cheese and tomato appetizer before moving on to a fish entrée and a standout special of braised scallops in the shell. We finished on a high note with a brownie and ice cream, and the amaretto sour we ordered was delicious.

What a fantastic place! This restaurant has several locations across Spain. Having previously enjoyed a wonderful meal at their Barcelona branch, we sat down in Madrid this time for a cozy brunch. Once again, we opted for a selection of different tapas, and fortunately, the quality here is exactly the same: truly excellent!
Every single dish was incredibly flavorful and fresh, but once again, there was one absolute standout that you really cannot miss: the beef tenderloin with foie gras. This combination is truly heavenly and perfectly prepared!

I had lunch at Vinitus Gran Vía and everything was excellent. We ordered croquettes, octopus, Pimientos de Padron, pasta, burrata cheese, and Russian salad , all of them were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The quality of the ingredients really stood out. The service was also great; the waiter was very friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout our visit. Overall, a fantastic dining experience in Gran Vía and highly recommended.

Service, food, ambiance, price is top notch! Best meal I've had in all of Spain and I've been in a Michelin tour for 2 weeks here. The tortilla de Santa Teresa is mind blowing! Can't wait to come back.

I went to this restaurant 4 times in a weekend and enjoyed both visits. The tapas are made with fresh produce and ingredients that come through really well. I particularly love the moradito with prawns and scallop. The razor clams and tuna belly tomato salad were also delicious, and when served with a portion of crunchy ficelle, they are hard to beat. The cuttlefish was another favorite, I had it twice. The tenderloin moradito is likely to please many. The patatas bravas weren’t my cup of tea.
One downside is that at one of the visits, one plate was dirty. It look like someone dipped it in the water and wiped it. Traces of oil were still present. I believe this was a little mistake that doesn’t change about how I feel for the quality of the food but this is something management should look into it.
Roanne Rae Cabradilla★★★★★
We were curious to try it after seeing a long line at another branch earlier. Luckily, we arrived early for dinner and didn’t have to wait. We didn’t expect their montaditos alone to make such a satisfying meal. The beef tenderloin and acorn-fed Ibérico montaditos were excellent and definite must-orders. We also loved the huevos cabreados, razor clams, and the torrija de Santa Teresa for dessert. Special thanks to Ariane for her helpful recommendations and assistance with our order. We’ll definitely be back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really great restaurent. Food was amazing and so tasty. Best food we have had in Spain. Great value. You will leave feeling full too !! Nice atmosphere as well and the people were so kind too.

Oh my god what an experience!!!!
The little amuse bouches of the daily menu are a cuddle to the heart (you are in Spain, you’ll try lots of lentils, but NOTHING will ever compare to this spoonful of happiness)
Artichoke tarte tatin: absolutely genius, light, crispy, delicious, a flavour explosion… just wow!
Hake with potatoes: I dare you to find a fresher, flakier, tastier hake in Madrid. The portion is generous, but I would have eaten more because it was like savouring a dream.
Now… we were full but the menu came with a dessert and who are we to say no?
Well, the desserts were probably the most inventive and explosive dishes on the menu. The chocolate fondant with olive oil… wow and the creme brûlée with a cookies bottom… double wow!
The service is impeccable, the decor cozy, this is a perfect place for a date, for a small dinner with friends, or to take your parents.
It’s incredible how these two people manage to create such perfect balance of everything!

We ate at Marcelle on our last night in Madrid, and it was one of the more memorable meals we have had in a long time. Its run by a lovely couple, who care about their food and service. They reached out to us a few days before our reservation, inquiring about food allergies but also what seat we wanted - which is a first for us.
We cannot recommend Marcelle enough and will look to reserve with them again when we visit Madrid in the future. Beautiful food, wonderful service, great ambience. Very deserving of five stars.

A very good surprise in the center of Madrid, this restaurant hold by two cheerful young French was an amazing experience.
The service was very friendly, nice explanations and attentions. The food was tasteful and original. And the wine we had, comming from Pays Basque, was nothing close to what we had tasted in the past.
Great dinner at Marcelle, and I wish we could come again 😋

A very cozy place with a warm and pleasant atmosphere. We were welcomed with a smile and served quickly. It was also lovely that they had candles available, and the pastry chef beautifully decorated the dessert at my request. We even all sang “Happy Birthday” together for my husband, which made the moment truly special.
A wonderful place - I highly recommend it.
The presentation of the dishes might differ slightly from the photos on Instagram, but they are still absolutely delicious.

While searching for a place to have authentic paella near our hotel, we stumbled upon Taberna Restaurante El Típico Madrid, and it was easily the best culinary find of our trip.
The food here is outstanding—truly a level above other options in the area. We started with the house sangria, which was excellent and perfectly balanced. For the meal, the seafood paella was the star, but everything we ordered was top-tier: the garlic shrimp was sizzling and flavorful, the grilled octopus was tender, and the fried eggplant with honey was a delicious surprise. We even tried the pork ribs, which were fall-off-the-bone tender.
What really made the evening special was the staff. Both the waiter and waitress were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel like locals. We truly hit the jackpot with this one. If you are in Madrid, do not miss this gem!

In total: very nice place and very good service.
We had steak.
They should ask how the costumers want their steak.
A vegetable dish, which needed to be cooked 3/4 minutes longer. However it was delicious. We didn’t have much time so we ate it.
And crispy pork ribs, Torreznos. Really Fantastic. We loved it.
Mojito: less ice please

We loved the experience here! Everything was delicious and the atmosphere in general was great. I loved the Roquefort Tenderloin which came with fries – the sauce on the meat was so good mmmmm… the portions are not big, so if you’re very hungry you’re probably need starters or another main dish. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely the best experience. Very close to the city center, but on a side street where it’s quiet and cozy. The food - paella and the meats were top of the top. Everything was prepared perfectly. And the white wine was delicious. This is exactly what I look for in restaurants when I’m on vacation. The service is the best. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Thank you so much again for your help during our “little” heart incident, especially to Gustavo, he did everything he could to help. You are all the best and I will definitely be back someday.

Everything was exceptional. From the delicious, authentic food to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant is cozy, beautiful, and full of charm, making you feel like you’re experiencing the real Madrid.
The service was outstanding. Roberto took wonderful care of us, and all of the ladies on the service team were incredibly kind, friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to help. Their hospitality made our lunch even more memorable.
Thank you for such a wonderful experience. We will definitely recommend La Malontina to anyone visiting Madrid, and we can’t wait to come back on our next trip! Muchas Gracias!

Our best meal in Spain let alone Madrid. We’d eaten here for years ago and remembered it as we entered. Only 8 tables, can seat no more than 20 so you need a reservation. They brought amazing bread with roasted peppers to start. We had the Galician clams special in green sauce that was superb redolent with garlic and herbs. Then the whole monkfish baked simply with oil salt and herbs with potatoes. Dessert was a chocolate cookie, think brownie, with salted caramel gelato washed down with espresso. The white wine was their recommendation from Galicia and was fantastic. Could not recommend this place more. And listen to the mailers recommendations. We didn’t have it but the pasta with prawn looked amazing also.

After being turned away yesterday because they were full, we made sure to have a reservation today - and it was worth it! La Malontina is a very intimate, small space, so booking is essential.
The food was outstanding and beautifully presented.
High-quality ingredients and a cozy atmosphere. Definitely one of our highlight of our trip!

The kindest server ever - they saw that I didn’t enjoy the leek and took it off the check without me even asking for it. The rest of seafood I ordered are all super fresh and amazing - highly recommend the clams and scallops.

We stumbled upon this amazing local Spanish restaurant with a hint of Asian fusion. We ordered the octopus stew and seared scallops, which were absolutely delicious and flavourful. My husband had the leeks and monkfish, both fresh and tasty. The attentive service and fantastic recommendations for our dishes made the experience even better. For desserts, the carrot cake is a must try. Highly recommend trying it if you’re in Madrid, and it is good value for money as we did have 3 glasses of wine as well. Points to note, better book a table in advance as it is a cozy restaurant with around 20 seats only.

Araia is, without question, one of the best restaurant experiences I have had. This gem sits at the top of my list of restaurants worldwide and one I will return to without hesitation.
A resident of the US and in Madrid on work, I was wandering the neighborhood to get acclimated. I discovered Araia entirely by chance, walking past while the restaurant was closed. A giant octopus painted on the door in bold black ink stopped me in my tracks. I looked up the name on the spot, pulled up the menu, and booked a reservation while standing in front of the closed doors, drooling with anticipation.
Everything about Araia is intentional. The restaurant guides the diner through an experience, an imaginary island adventure that is as delicious as it is creative. The music was flawless from start to finish. I Shazamed every single song. The atmosphere, the energy, the room, all of it worked together as a form of art.
The staff were a true team, each person warm, brilliant, and engaging. Thoughtful in their approach and detailed in how they described each dish as it was presented, less like servers, more like tour guides on a culinary journey.
The flavors were rich, complex, and made my taste buds dance. The simplest of ingredients, fried capers paired with pomegranate seeds over the Iberian Pork Presa, were delightful and entertaining. I found myself saving each bite deliberately, trying to identify every flavor from the smallest ingredient to the largest. It was like when you taste food that is so absolutely delicious that you cannot decide whether to gobble it up quickly because it is so good, or savor each bite.
The menu is slightly limited for dairy-free diners, but there were plenty of options, and the kitchen accommodated beautifully without compromising the integrity of the dishes.
By the end of my third dish I was genuinely bummed the experience was coming to a close. I asked my server if there was anything else I could order to keep the evening going. There was not. So I closed the night with an espresso and sat a little while longer, soaking in every last moment.
The restaurant left the sweetest taste. I will absolutely be back.
Celeste Williams-Condor★★★★☆

Grateful that a local told us about this gem! Nestled in the lively and beautiful Trafalgar neighborhood, we enjoyed every aspect of this dining experience, from the sexy decor that created the perfect ambiance and the friendly wait staff that engaged with us about the creative menu (& restaurant name) to the beautifully-presented plates of elevated dishes that arrived at the right time to allow us to savor the moments & meal together. The owners are fluent in both Spanish and English, making it easier for guests to order and feel welcome. Don’t miss this gem when dining in Madrid. There is a reason why this spot is popular among locals and their reviews are well-earned. They pay attention to every dining detail.

I visited Arrabal Madrid for breakfast, and it was a great experience. The restaurant is located right in the middle of Plaza Mayor, making it a perfect place to enjoy the atmosphere.
I ordered the English Breakfast, which included a fresh juice and a coffee in the price. I don’t drink coffee, so the waiter kindly offered me extra juice instead. It wasn’t necessary, but I really appreciated the gesture. I also ordered a large salad with eggs and olives, and it was absolutely delicious.
The waiter spoke excellent English and was friendly, attentive, and very helpful throughout my visit. This is exactly how great service should be. Thank you for the wonderful experience, and I wish you many happy and satisfied customers.

Sitting out on the terrace overlooking Plaza Mayor is definitely a bit touristy, but it makes for a nice way to spend an evening. Arrabal is known for cachopo and it was definitely worth ordering. Be warned - it is a huge portion and definitely enough for two people. The oxtail tacos and the fried eggplant were also tasty: however, the chocolate cake may have been the star of the evening. Daniel and Antono took very good care of us.

Tips for Dining in Madrid Like a Local
Understanding a few key customs and practical details will help you enjoy Madrid’s food scene with confidence. From timing your meals to ordering with intention, these tips reflect how Madrileños actually eat and move through their city.
Adjust your meal schedule. Lunch is the main meal of the day in Madrid, typically served between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Many restaurants offer a menú del día at lunch, which includes a starter, main course, dessert, and drink for a fixed, affordable price. Dinner starts late, usually after 9:00 p.m., and is often lighter, built around shared plates.
Reserve ahead for popular spots. The best restaurants, especially those with a strong reputation or a Michelin star, book out days or even weeks in advance. Call or use an online booking platform before you travel, particularly for weekend dinners. For casual tapas bars, arriving early—around 8:00 p.m.—usually secures a spot at the bar without a reservation.
Learn the difference between a barra and a mesa. At many traditional bars, prices are lower if you stand at the bar than if you sit at a table. The barra is also where you will experience the liveliest atmosphere and fastest service. Do not be shy about ordering at the counter and eating standing up; it is the authentic way to enjoy tapas.
Order seasonal and regional specialties. Madrid’s best dishes are tied to the seasons. In winter, look for cocido madrileño, a hearty chickpea and meat stew. In summer, gazpacho and salmorejo are refreshing choices. Ask your server what is fresh or recommended that day rather than sticking to a fixed idea of Spanish food.
Embrace the sobremesa. Meals in Madrid are social events, and lingering at the table after eating is normal and encouraged. Do not expect the check to arrive automatically; you will need to ask for it by saying la cuenta, por favor. Take your time, enjoy the conversation, and let the meal unfold at a relaxed pace.
Exploring Madrid through its restaurants is one of the most direct ways to connect with the city’s history, character, and people. Each meal offers a chance to understand why food here is treated with such pride and passion. Walk through the old streets, follow the smell of sizzling garlic and olive oil, and let your curiosity guide you from one unforgettable table to the next.
