Montmartre draws millions of visitors to its winding lanes and iconic hilltop basilica, yet the area directly around the Sacré-Cœur is often filled with rushed sightseeing and overpriced tourist stops. If you are willing to walk just a few minutes beyond the main square, you will find a different side of the neighborhood. This part of the 18th arrondissement is home to a thriving specialty coffee scene, vintage-chic tearooms, and sun-drenched terraces that feel like a local secret.
Finding a beautiful place to sit down near such a busy monument can be difficult, especially if you care about atmosphere as much as the quality of the drink. The best cafés here combine thoughtful interior design, excellent lighting, and a relaxed pace that encourages you to linger. Whether you want a minimalist Scandinavian-style espresso bar or a romantic, plant-filled hideaway, the streets behind the basilica offer far more than standard chain coffee.
This guide focuses on aesthetic appeal without sacrificing the quality of the coffee, tea, or pastries. Each venue on this list has been chosen for its visual charm, consistency, and proximity to the Sacré-Cœur. You will find spaces that suit early morning remote work, quiet afternoon reading, and golden-hour conversations before dinner.
The term “aesthetic” can mean different things depending on your taste, so this selection includes a range of styles. Some spots lean into Parisian bistro nostalgia with mosaic floors and red banquettes, while others embrace clean lines, neutral tones, and soft natural light. All of them are within walking distance of the basilica, making them easy to combine with your visit to the Butte Montmartre.
Because the neighborhood is hilly and filled with cobblestones, comfortable shoes are essential. The cafés listed below are organized with an eye toward practical geography, so you can plan a short walking route that takes in several beautiful streets and viewpoints. Avoid the busiest midday rush if you want to secure a window seat or a quiet corner.
It is also worth remembering that many of these addresses are small, independently owned businesses. Service can be slower than what you might expect from a large chain, but that is part of the experience. A visit here is about slowing down, enjoying the details, and appreciating the craft behind a well-made drink.
Below is a curated selection of the most visually appealing cafés near the Sacré-Cœur, each with a distinct atmosphere and a reason to visit.

Beautiful coffee. Best one I’ve tasted. Smooth, not bitter.
Pastry was delicious, flaky exterior and soft inside with the perfect amount of chocolate.
The cafe is gorgeously decorated, including the toilets!
Staff were kind and attentive.
Would definitely be a regular if we lived here!

We visited Clove in Paris in February 2025 and had a really nice experience. It’s a lovely spot to stop for a good coffee while exploring the city.
The coffee was great, and the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. It was a nice little break during our time in Paris and definitely worth stopping by if you’re looking for a good coffee.
We enjoyed our visit and would happily come back again when we’re next in Paris!

Absolutely fell in love with this coffee shop on my way to Sacre Coeur. It had the best pistachio- orange blossom madeleines 🫶🏽 and their pour over selection was the best we had during our time in Paris. A truly delightful experience!

Must go if you are in Montmartre!
Service: Warm, professional, and friendly. Very knowledgeable and helpful in recommendations if you’re not sure how to order!
Coffee: The best coffee I had in Paris!
Atmosphere: Simple and modern design, but the service made it feel cozy and homey.

The best specialty coffee in montmartre, with thoughtful selection of pourover beans. The ambiance is very cozy and chill and the barista was friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended

I visited Paris in January and found this gem of a café. I had a flat white and a pain au chocolat. Both were delicious. The service was great, as well. I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere is perfectly curated, giving you a calm experience.

This coffee shop is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels calm, minimal, and thoughtfully curated perfect for slowing down and enjoying a quality cup of coffee. The clean design, natural wood shelving, and subtle greenery create a warm yet modern vibe that immediately stands out.
The pastries are just as impressive as the setting. I tried the croissant, and it was perfectly flaky, buttery, and fresh—exactly what you’d hope for in a proper café experience. Everything looks carefully selected and presented with intention, not rushed or mass-produced.
What really elevates the experience is the attention to detail. From the neatly arranged shelves to the simple but elegant display of baked goods, you can tell they take pride in what they do. It’s the kind of place where quality clearly comes before quantity.
Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee or looking to sit and enjoy a quiet moment, this spot delivers. Highly recommended if you appreciate great coffee, excellent pastries, and a clean, aesthetic environment.

My favorite little café in Paris!
The whole concept is just perfect – cozy, cute, and full of flowers and charm. The owners are incredibly kind and make you feel genuinely welcome every single time. 🌸
Their matcha? Absolutely delicious. The coffee, perfection too. But it’s really the vibe and atmosphere that make this place special. A true hidden gem you’ll want to come back to again and again. ☕

Very cute spot and the lemon cake is to die for! Definitely my new go-to café in the neighborhood.
Alejandro Fierro★★★★★
Item tried: Capuccino, Flat white, Latte
Their extraction is extremely balanced. I never felt the espresso lean towards acidic. It was very complimentary to the milk. Even on the flat white, you can taste the higher espresso content initially but it quickly tapers into the smooth creamy finish of the milk. Worth the trip

One of the most interesting brunch places in Montmartre. We ordered a few things with eggs, avocado and halloumi. It was delicious. The main thing that sets them apart from similar places is the addition of delicious dukka in the plat and their amazing drinks.
To top it all, the staff is kind and very polite. Would highly recommend this place. Expect to wait a little as this is very popular joint situated perfectly at a popular spot.
Share Share★★★★★
Kozy (often referred to as Kozy or Kozy Brunch) is one of the most popular modern brunch cafés in Paris, and it has built a strong reputation for generous portions, creative dishes, and a lively atmosphere.
The menu is very brunch-focused, with items like eggs Benedict variations, pancakes, French toast, brioche sandwiches, and loaded savory plates. Most visitors highlight the food as flavorful, filling, and well-presented, especially dishes like the “Sexy Benedict” and French toast, which are frequently praised as standouts. Coffee and specialty drinks (matcha, lattes, hot chocolate) are generally good, though not always considered the main highlight compared to the food.
The vibe is trendy and busy, with a youthful café atmosphere and modern interior design. It’s a “turn-up-and-brace-for-a-wait” kind of place—queues are common, especially on weekends. Staff are often described as friendly and efficient, and service moves quickly even when it’s crowded.
On the downside, there are a few recurring criticisms:
* It can feel overcrowded and quite tight inside
* Waiting times can be long at peak hours
* Some diners feel portions are great but the food doesn’t always justify the hype or price every time
* A few reviews mention inconsistency in temperature or execution of dishes
Overall, Kozy is best understood as a buzzing, high-energy brunch spot rather than a quiet café experience. If you go early (or off-peak), it’s often a much better experience.
Verdict: 8/10 for brunch lovers, especially if you want a lively Paris café experience with big, photogenic plates—but less ideal if you’re after calm or fine-dining-level consistency.
Nina Z★★★★★
We found this lovely little brunch spot in a quiet and peaceful part of Montmartre and absolutely loved the atmosphere.
We came around 9:30 in the morning, and it was still very calm with only a few people there, which made the experience feel especially cozy and relaxing. Our waitress, Sandra, was incredibly kind and welcoming.
What impressed us most was how quickly everything arrived — literally within five minutes after ordering — yet everything was beautifully presented and genuinely delicious.
It was such a peaceful and charming way to start the morning before exploring Paris again. A wonderful hidden spot in Montmartre.

French toast cafe near the big church 😗
🚩 their QR app charges you 1 euro extra to pay 😡😡😡
Was given water right away but servers took their time to come over …😅
12 - French toast with fruit
They got a QR code menu but you cannot actually order from it. You can pay from it tho
The French toast comes with seasonal fruit it seems.
Melon, peaches, raspberries, strawberries and nuts.
Tons of cream on top. Syrup too which I think was too much
The toast was pretty hard. Super toasted?
Wasn’t bad but different from Paris French toast so far.
The melon doesn’t blend well. The peaches and berries do 🤤
Nitpicking but it was annoying how hard this bread was to cut, on top of wobbling table too 😕
Pretty filling for one slice
Would get no syrup
Overall alright. Wouldn’t go out of my way for it but glad I tried it ✌️

This spot serves an amazing brunch, and their omelette is an absolute must-order just like the one pictured. It’s easily the best brunch spot across Montmartre. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming too.

As a native Californian in France for almost two weeks, I found myself needing some healthy food and positive vibes. When we walked into Devotions Cafe, I was unsure if I was walking into my local Bay Area coffee shop or maybe a San Diego acai bowl shop. Either way, I was impressed and pleased. The food and the vibes did not fail to impress! From my shake using alternative milk to my Turkish egg dish, the food was delicious.

We had a lovely breakfast today at this cozy spot. The food was delicious, and the service was warm and friendly. The place is a bit small, but we were able to find a table without any issues. A nice surprise was the babycino on the menu, which is quite rare to find in Paris, making it a great option for families. They even gave our daughter a free sticker, which was a sweet touch! Overall, a great experience for both adults and little one.

Good French food, especially the Magret de Canard, perfectly cooked, crispy outside but tender inside. The sauce was delicious too. I also enjoyed Soupe a l’oignon and brioche perdu.
But the price is a bit high. I will only come when I crave for french food.
Reservation recommended!

This is a very nice spot for a delicious meal. We enjoyed the outside seating. I only wish that the kids beef which was requested as medium-well was not nearly raw. The lids ate but it was not to their taste. The service was good and prices were okay.

We were looking where to eat lunch and in Paris many many places do ear:) so we decided to stop here and it was nice choice! I took my first “ Les 6 escargots” and they were cooked to perfection! My husband had “Veal steak, cheese cream & polenta fries” and cream was really something super tasty!!! I recommend this place ! We took table outside ! But remember in France people can smoke at the restaurants so be aware 🙂

The breakfast set costs might be a bit high. But it is quite formal and traditional ,hot drank, croissant, baguette, orange juice with sufficient better, jam ,everything you need you will find here. That is worth trying the traditional French breakfast!
Especially ! The service is excellent!
The staff is so patient. Since I am a tourist, I want to use my euro coins(like 20 cents wtc) as much as I can before I leave(so it is less heavy)
I was afraid they will be annoyed to this . Luckily they didn't. I was really grateful 5o this ,while I always heard paris service is so impatient etc .recommend this cafe !

I was on a school trip and decided last minute to dine here with a friend. I got a hotdog with fries and it was very good and quite affordable, the service was great despite the language barrier (which was our fault), and my friend thoroughly enjoyed her omelette. Would recommend.

As you’re coming down Sacre de Coeur your options for a quick bite are limited… if you’re limited on time. I saw the little cafe and it was quite packed inside. They seated us down and was very attentive. My family member ordered a footlong hot dog and they said it was mediocre. My other family member ordered a crepe and enjoyed it! I ordered a salmon cheese melt sandwich. All the food filled us up and we enjoyed it.

I ate there yesterday.
The location is perfect right in front of the sacré-coeur although you can’t actually see it from there because of the trees. It’s just in front of the funicular to go up and not far from the metro station called « Anvers » on the line 2.
There’s both indoor and outdoor space and there’s also a crêperie that’s part of the restaurant, so if you just want a crêpe, you don’t even need to go inside.
It’s located on the main street, Rue de Steinkerque. The service was fast, and the staff is nice.
Unfortunately, it felt like the lettuce and eggs weren’t very fresh, and the chicken was fried tenders. However, they gave me a generous portion of salad, and the dressing and overall taste were okay.
The place is clean!

Le Studio Cafe is in Montmartre at the bottom of the stairs from Sacre Coeur. The restaurant is themed around classic Hollywood movies. The food is burgers, wings, chicken fingers, and pizza. The food was good and the service was efficient. Yhey have indoor and outdoor seating. The tenders and wings plate was 12€ and was a lot of food. We could have split the plate with the side of fries. They batter was different than in America but was tasty. If you are looking for some reasonable priced American style food in the center of Paris. This is the place.

Tranquil. If there is just one word I used to describe the place. Their 5 Marche cake was delightful: not bland but simple, not sugar but still fruit forward, not pretentious but not meek in flavor either. Also! The espresso was good. Like real good. They choose a good bean and keep their machine clean. I walked by it and could feel the good vibes coming from it. People looked relaxed. I could see its chefs cooking diligently and peaceful in the back. The orders around me looked so good I was tempted to get something. The ingredients look so fresh and picture perfect. Definitely coming back either this week or next year on my annual France trips. Space in side and outside are quite inviting. Rounded out my time around the Basilica and winding, artsy streets real well

We actually got beers here since we got the crepes from next door and they would not let us sit at one of their tables in the street. The beers were great. I was told Parisian coffee was no good but this place was amazing! The drinks were great and the cakes were, genuinely, some of the best I have ever had (we split a slice of Guinness chocolate cake and a peanut butter brownie). Lovely service too and the downstairs area was a quiet spot to escape the Sacre Cœur crowds, severals locals using it as a work spot which honestly made me so jealous and I wish it was local to me.

I decided to try this quaint place while in Paris and I do not regret it. The food was very good, I just got dinner with the pork sausage and mashed potatoes.
The potatoes were very buttery but not overpoweringly so. The jus did not fully absorb into it either so you could fully taste it. And I don’t even like sausage but this one was amazing, it came out warm and tender on the inside but tough on the outside, so despite being small it was very satiating. I think there was some freshness lacking though, maybe some herbs especially thyme could’ve paired nicely.
The bread was alright.
The best part is the location, it is perfect for a date, and very quiet with a very traditional looking outside and interior.
The service was definitely a bit slow, but area is nice so it makes up for it, but definitely should be improved. And they speak English well so that wasn’t and issue.
I highly recommend if you are looking for latex back French fair, just hope this place doesn’t get too popular because if I was a Paris local I would go here often.

Waited like 50 mins for the food and most parts of my butchers cut steak were not edible.
Had to scrape off the meat and the potatoes got cold and hard while I struggled with the steak. The worst steak I had in France and definitely not worth 22 euros.
The sauce was not bad and my friend took beef tartare which apparently was better but also waited 50 mins.

A Truly Perfect Parisian Lunch!
We stumbled upon Cafe de Luce while exploring Montmartre and it turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip! This is an absolutely charming and authentic Parisian cafe with a wonderful atmosphere.
The food was simply outstanding and reasonably priced for the tourist area it is in. We tried a few different things and everything was delicious. The "La Grande Saucisse" was hearty, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The "Filet de Poisson" was incredibly fresh, light, and flaky. We also loved the "Légumes de Saison" which were the perfect side dish. The "Menu Dejeuner" is a fantastic deal for such high-quality food. To top it all off, the Voila limonade was incredibly refreshing.
The service was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. If you're looking for a delicious, authentic meal in a beautiful setting, you absolutely must visit Cafe de Luce. We can't wait to come back! Five stars!

We enjoyed their food but service was poor.
Arrived at 8:00pm on time for our reservation & we’re seated promptly. Proceed to wait 25 minutes with no water offered or any attention by our Server who kept walking past us with no eye contact. Bartender notice & he apologized pouring us 2 glasses of wine.
Placed our order for a starter of Escargot and 2 plates, Fish & Steak. Waited another 20 minutes then our Server brought us all 3 dishes at the same time. We found it odd that she expected us to have our Escargot while the mains got cold.
They took the mains back with the promise the kitchen would prepare them over. Our server kept ignoring us without refilling our wine glasses.
Steak & Fish arrived after awhile & we could see they had re-prepared our dishes. Had Crème Broulee & paid our bill of 85 Euros.
Payment machine asked us what tip we’d like to leave based on service being Fair, Good, or Excellent with their recommended percentage. We left a note for our Server who was sitting in an adjacent room (on her phone) which said, “Nous laissons habituellement un généreux pourboire pour un bon service. Désolé que cela n'ait pas été le cas ce soir. Merci”. Translates to - we normally leave a generous gratuity for good service but that was not the case tonight. She simply shrugged as if she didn’t care.
This was our last night in Paris & we had hoped this would be the best dinner of our trip but we left feeling disappointed. In summation food was a 4 star but service was 1 star.

The best coffee we’ve ever had. Great coffee is a combination of quality ingredients and skill, and Monlam delivers both. He’s a professionally trained barista who sources his beans from the best roasters, and his passion for coffee-making shows in every cup.
The first time we visited, he made our cappuccinos with a huge smile. The latte art is beautiful, but what truly stands out is the balance of coffee, milk, and foam. No bitterness. Just pure pleasure with every sip.
Over our 2.5-week stay in Paris, we came nearly every day until we could simply walk in and ask for “the usual.” By the end, we weren’t just regulars — we’d made a new friend.
Paris is lucky to have Monlam Café. We already miss the coffee, and of course, Monlam himself. Tashi Delek, Monlam! Wishing you all the best 🙏

Went here after visiting the Basilica, this place had one so friendly happy man, he was so cheerful. I ordered the iced rose red dragon matcha with oat milk and an iced chai latte. Both drinks were beautifully prepared, the man was so joyful in doing this task, so rare in this world to see a person at work and so happy. Its a small place with a few seats within the place and then two tables outside but this gentle fella gives his all, so try to be patient.

This cute cafe called to my friend& I after a stroll through le sacré-cœur. It's nice bright atmosphere and cool blue logo drew us in. We spent time drinking iced tea and espresso chatting with Passi and her husband who run the shop. They were both so welcoming and the quality of the coffee was excellent. It was such a relaxing experience. If you only speak English and are a tourist who likes good coffee I'd highly recommend coming here cause they can do orders in French and English.

We visited this establishment upon our arrival in Monmartre and were famished.
We were warmly greeted and seated. The staff speak excellent English and are very helpful.
The hot chocolate was surely the best we had in Paris! Wonderful.
The eggs Benedict (love that it is served on crossaint and not an English muffin) was so good, eggs perfectly placed, and enjoyed the hollaindaise sauce. We also very much loved the side of rosti. Perfect.
Clean, casual cafe serving great food and friendly and attentive service.
So glad we stopped in and would highly recommend.

We went here upon arriving at Monmarte just as it opened. We were greeted warmly and they had an English menu which was nice. The food was delicious and kept us well fed for a busy day of site seeing.

What an amazing place for breakfast/brunch! We had Eggs Benedict, cappuccino, and the cake of the day.
Loved the atmosphere, the setup, the friendly staff, and the quality of the food and coffee.
It’s located right next to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
1000% recommended!

My best friend and I came here for brunch after a busy morning exploring Monmarte and we had a wonderful experience. Our server Samuel was one of kind and full of energy, and we were so impressed that it was only his first day! I highly recommend coming here for a yummy brunch if you’re around Monmarte.
Tips for Choosing the Right Café
Not every beautiful café will suit your needs, especially if you are visiting during a busy travel day or trying to get some work done. The best choice depends on the time of day, the size of your group, and whether you prioritize quiet, speed, or photography. These practical tips will help you match the right venue to your mood and avoid common disappointments.
- Visit before 10:00 a.m. for the best light and seats. Most aesthetic cafés near the Sacré-Cœur are small, and window seats fill quickly. Arriving early also gives you softer morning light for photos and a calmer atmosphere before the lunch crowd arrives.
- Check whether the café allows laptops before settling in. Several design-focused spots in Montmartre intentionally limit laptop use on weekends to preserve a relaxed dining atmosphere. If you plan to work, call ahead or choose a larger venue with dedicated tables.
- Look beyond the main square for better value. Cafés located directly on Place du Tertre or immediately at the basilica steps often charge a premium for the view. Walking five to ten minutes down the hill usually leads to better coffee and more thoughtful interiors.
- Carry cash for smaller establishments. While most places accept cards, a few independent tearooms and tiny espresso bars have minimum card amounts or occasional network issues. A €10 or €20 note will save you from an awkward moment.
- Wear shoes suited for cobblestones and stairs. Even if you are only walking between two cafés, the terrain around the Sacré-Cœur is steep and uneven. Comfortable footwear makes the difference between an enjoyable café crawl and a tiring afternoon.
- Time your visit around the basilica’s peak hours. The Sacré-Cœur is busiest between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If you want a quiet terrace, plan your café break for mid-morning or late afternoon, when the surrounding streets feel noticeably calmer.
- Ask for the seasonal special before ordering. Many of the best specialty cafés in the area rotate their drinks based on the time of year. A seasonal latte, house-made lemonade, or limited pastry often reflects the café’s creativity far better than a standard menu item.
The area around the Sacré-Cœur rewards slow exploration. Instead of treating your café stop as a quick break between photos, give yourself time to sit near a window, watch the neighborhood move, and notice the small details that make Montmartre’s café culture feel distinct. The best memories often come from an unplanned second coffee, a conversation with a barista, or a quiet corner you found by walking one street further than the crowd.
As the neighborhood continues to evolve, new spaces open while older favorites refine their menus and interiors. Returning visitors will often find that a café has changed its layout, added a new pastry chef, or introduced a more ambitious coffee program. That constant renewal is part of what makes the streets behind the Sacré-Cœur so appealing for people who care about design, flavor, and atmosphere in equal measure.
