Menton’s reputation as the “Pearl of France” is built on sun-drenched citrus groves, pastel facades, and a slower Mediterranean rhythm that feels a world away from the glitz of nearby Monaco. While the town is famous for its lemons and Italian-influenced cuisine, its plant-based dining scene has quietly evolved into one of the most compelling on the Côte d’Azur. For vegetarians, the proximity to both French Provençal markets and Italian border towns creates a unique culinary overlap that is rare to find elsewhere in France.
The challenge for visiting vegetarians is often navigating traditional Niçoise and Mentonnais menus, which historically lean heavily on anchovies, tuna, and meat-based broths. However, a new wave of independent restaurateurs has responded by sourcing exceptional local produce—think courgette flowers, Swiss chard, socca, and sun-ripened tomatoes—to craft dishes that are satisfying, creative, and deeply rooted in the region. This means you no longer have to settle for a side salad or a plain margherita while your travel companions feast.
Understanding this shift requires looking at the geography of Menton. The town’s microclimate allows for the cultivation of produce that struggles in other parts of France, including avocados, citrus, and delicate herbs. Because Menton sits directly on the Italian border, many kitchens blend French technique with Ligurian traditions, resulting in handmade pastas, pesto variations, and wood-fired vegetables that naturally center the plate rather than treating them as an afterthought.
As a content strategist focused on local search, I’ve analyzed the dining landscape based on ingredient sourcing, consistency of vegetarian options, and the overall atmosphere that makes a meal memorable. The following list is not simply a ranking of places that offer a token vegetable dish; these are establishments where a vegetarian can enjoy a multi-course experience with the same care and attention given to any other diner. Each venue has been selected for its ability to deliver flavor, authenticity, and a true sense of place.
Whether you are looking for a casual beachside lunch, a refined dinner overlooking the old town, or a hidden courtyard café serving organic wine, Menton offers a surprising depth of choice. The key is knowing where to look, as many of the best spots are tucked away from the main tourist thoroughfares. The recommendations below prioritize kitchens that work directly with local growers and change their menus with the seasons.
Before diving into the specific venues, it is worth noting that French dining hours are strict. Lunch is typically served from noon to 2:00 PM, and dinner rarely starts before 7:30 PM. Booking ahead is highly recommended during the summer months and during the Fête du Citron in February, as the best vegetarian-friendly kitchens tend to be small, independent operations with limited seating.

I went with friends and family 2 years in a row to this restaurant whilst on holidays and it doesn't disappoint. Personnel and owner are very friendly and available for any question you may have.
Food is delicious ! 😋
You can definitely head straight to this one with closed eyes 🤩🇱🇧

Such a lucky find in Menton! If you’re tired of the usual tourist traps, go to Mont Goût. The food tastes so fresh, you can tell it’s all homemade.
The best part, though, was the host. He was incredibly sweet and didn't blink when I asked about animal-free options; he just put together a vegan version of the Lebanese platter for me on the spot. It was so delicious and filling. I really appreciate it when a place actually puts effort into dietary requests instead of just offering a side salad.
Super warm vibes and great prices, definitely check them out. I will be back for sure!

In a town with plenty of good Italian restaurants this Lebanese restaurant is a welcome change. The chef/owner is a gracious host serving excellent food. The food is freshly prepared, with the amount of walk in people buying take aways plus the full tables in the small seating area there is a need to prepare the foods regularly.
There were two of us, at the chef's suggestion we shared a Lebanese platter, and a viande (meat) plat du jour. Each item was delicious, and there were many delicious choices between the two mains. The bottle of rosé was perfectly chilled, served in quality wine glasses.
A large tour group of youngsters on a daily stipend arrived while we were eating. Our host helped explain the choices, the vegan and other options that were requested. The group all left happy with their meals.
I enjoyed every morsel I ate. The food was sublime, filling but not heavy. My wife and I left very satisfied.
The host is a great man serving good food at a very reasonable price.

We needed a place to eat that was serving healthy food and was also open. I got the aubergine steak which was amazing!! Like seriously so good. My sisters got the gnocchi and the burger which they both liked. It is a smaller restaurant but we got lucky and they were able to serve the four of us. They have lots of fresh baked, pastries, and smoothies and teas! The server took awhile to take our order and was a it forgetful but she was still very sweet! They were all so welcoming. A great time.

Amazing cafe with gorgeous, delicious vegan food. We came for the brunch on Saturday, which is so much food for the price and complete with fresh juice, coffee, fruit, and a choice of sweet or savoury bread. The vegan butter is so delicious, I won’t deny that I did just have a bit of it on its own after the bread was gone. 🙂 Such a friendly place, complete with the sweetest puppy, Winnie, to keep you company. Hope to come back again some time! Thank you/Merci/Grazie!

Hands down best food I had in France, Paris included, and I’m not a vegan. The food was such high quality and clearly every ingredient used was fresh and given so much thought. The owners are very friendly and the place is lively and well-priced. If you want delicious food and a seasonal fresh menu that just so happens to be vegan, go here.

L’Orangerie was a wonderful surprise in Menton. From the moment we arrived, we received a warm, professional, and genuinely attentive welcome.
Every dish fully lived up to our expectations, not only because of the quality and freshness of the ingredients, but especially because of the chef’s precision and excellent execution. The combination of Mediterranean cuisine with subtle Japanese influences brings personality and balance to each dish while always allowing the ingredients to shine.
After our experience, we completely understand the recognition from the Michelin Guide. The quality of the ingredients, precise cooking, flavors, and attention to detail can truly be appreciated in every dish.
Excellent cuisine, outstanding service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Without a doubt, one of the best dining options in Menton and a restaurant we would definitely return to.
Anonymous eat★★★★☆
We had the €39 set menu for dinner. The food was not exceptional, but the quality was good given the price.
For starters, the red pepper mousse was flavorful, but a little too firm and not quite cold enough for my liking. Given the weather these days, I think it would have been more refreshing if it had been served cooler. The gazpacho was also well-balanced and fresh.
For the main courses, we ordered the salmon tataki. We won’t compare it with the salmon tataki we’ve had in Japan, but the salmon itself was good quality, with a nice balance of fatty richness and firm texture. The portion was generous, and the salmon was seared perfectly, with the interior remaining raw. The rice underneath, however, was not as chewy and fluffy as we would have liked, and the sauce was a little bland. The acidity of the pickled vegetables was great for cutting through the richness of the salmon, although it could be a little overpowering.
The pork was also cooked perfectly, and the fattier parts of the cut complemented the texture nicely. The sauce and vegetables were reasonable, although nothing particularly memorable.
The parfait was a little disappointing. It was a good combination of seasonal fruits, but nonetheless felt like not much work had gone into the dessert. The chocolate terrine, on the other hand, was rich and silky.
We would also like to mention that only two pieces of bread are served with the meal at a time, with more provided upon request. We felt that the portion was a little insufficient and, to be honest, somewhat ungenerous.
Service was okay. The servers were generally polite and did what they needed to do, but nothing more. We passed by the restaurant another day towards the end of service and stopped to look at the menu. The server who had previously served us happened to be there, but did not respond when we said, “Have a good evening.” It gave us the impression that, as long as you are a client, they will do their job, but there is little warmth or attentiveness beyond that.
The atmosphere, however, was pleasant, with an occasional breeze that made the outdoor seating enjoyable. A nearby restaurant had live music playing, which added nicely to the experience. When making the reservation, we were given the option of sitting indoors, outdoors under the tent, or outdoors without the tent. We would recommend sitting outside when the weather is good, as it really complements the dining experience.

Was in Paris for some Parisian Pride and Lyon Bouchon before Nice, dropping by in Menton for a lunch and I must rate this is the best pairing we ever had throughout the journey, the flavour and taste turns out as one of the best experience, we had white asparagus and seafood sashimi as starter, Salmon Tataki for both my daughter while I had Tuna and wife having Veal Tenderloin to perfection. Dessert was an absolute completion tocthe course…

Fleur del Sel is a nice spot if you’re in the mood for crêpes and something casual. The setting is pleasant and relaxed, making it an easy place to stop by while exploring the area.
The crêpes are good overall—well-made and with a decent variety of fillings. Some combinations stand out more than others, but everything feels fresh and satisfying enough.
Service is friendly, the staff are polite and make you feel welcome.
All in all, it’s a solid choice for a laid-back meal in Menton.

Hands down the best crepes in Menton. Multiple incredible options and great taste. It could take time to get served but it’s worth the wait for sure.

Very disappointing experience. We came for galettes and crêpes and ended up waiting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes before being served.
No apology or explanation was offered for the delay. A simple acknowledgment would have made a big difference.
The food was decent, but the extremely slow service and lack of customer care overshadowed the entire experience. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place based on the service we received.

Do not leave Menton without having crepes at Fleur de Sel! Be ready for a bit of a wait but it is so worth it because everything is homemade and delicious. The Poulet Parisienne was perfect and the side salad consisted of a lovely variety of fresh greens and tasty dressing. My husband enjoyed the classic ham and cheese. The dessert crepes are extra special! You can’t go wrong with the Mentonaise, if you love lemons!
The coffee was also very good.

Order crepe with banana and chocolate & whipped cream . But when we sit down & there is no mention of no cover charge per person. After when we pay for bill, they charge $5 per pax x 3 person. Be careful when u seat in a group without ordering things. It really extortion.

Well well well… I must say I have eaten in a lot of restaurants, but this must be talked about. We just came across this restaurant without a booking and they were very amenable to get us a table. The reason I chose this restaurant was because I noticed that everyone’s food looked fantastic. I must say that EVERYTHING that came out of the kitchen looked fantastic, and the taste was perfect. These guys certainly know their stuff.. Small Menu meaning they can produce great food every time. The staff were absolutely first class. This restaurant was in a side street in Menton but I understand they have a larger one near the port. I cannot rate this highly enough. Definitely worth a try…. Thank you for my perfect meal x

I visited L’eventail Menton on the 6th August 2026 for dinner with a friend . We felt very welcomed and I have a little dog . They were dog friendly and the service was quick and everyone smiley with good energy.
For a started we shared the printemps de rouleux and then we had a pad Thai each. They have all the vegetarian options so I have the tofu pad Thai and my friend has the chicken pad Thai. Portion sizes are very filling and we both polished off the plates. Definitely recommend to anyone staying in Menton. We went to the restaurant in the little side street in town, apparently they have the same restaurant on the beachfront so I will try this out another time for sure .

I was lucky enough to dine at Indian Délices shortly after they had just reopened that month, and it was such a special experience. I went on my own and was warmly welcomed by Sharmila and a member of staff — so friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. Sharmila’s husband, the chef (pictured), clearly pours his heart into every dish, and you can taste the care and passion in every bite.
I had the dopiaza with garlic naan, and it was honestly one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in France — rich, perfectly spiced, and full of authentic flavor. Everything was beautifully presented and cooked with care. Sharmila was lovely to chat with (though she’s a bit shy about photos!) and they spoke fluent English and French, which made everything so easy and welcoming. I also believe they host events, which sounds like a fantastic way to enjoy their amazing food with friends or family.
If you’re anywhere near Monaco or that side of France, do yourself a favor and stop by Indian Délices. It’s not just a meal — it’s an experience you won’t forget. I feel so lucky to have discovered this gem and can’t wait to come back!

I will highly recommend this nice and warm place with lovely Staff. Not to miss some nice hindi songs .
Vivek Patel★☆☆☆☆
The customer service was disappointing from the very beginning. The introductory comments made by the staff felt judgmental and, at times, racially insensitive, which created an uncomfortable experience. The individual- a woman and her husband- identified themselves as Sri Lankan while running an Indian restaurant and made remarks that came across as biased—particularly the statement that they do not allow sharing one dish between two people because “many Indians do that.” This felt unnecessary and inappropriate.
The food did not reflect authentic Indian cuisine. While it may resemble Indian dishes visually..
The hygiene standards appeared questionable, which further impacted the overall experience.
Overall, I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a genuine Indian dining experience and hospitality.

We came in late (around 21:00) and were glad they were still open until 22:30. The portion sizes here are massive—definitely enough to share!
The pasta and artichoke salad were both solid (8/10)—the ingredients tasted very fresh, though the pasta wasn't the best we've had in Menton. The mocktails (Firenze and Venice) were a bit too sugary for our taste. Even the tiramisu was huge; it’s a portion best shared by three people. Overall, the atmosphere was nice.

I have visited Nona multiple times during my 7 day stay in Menton with my little daughter. The food was delicious, and the portions were very generous. I could barely finish any of the plates and they always offered to pack it take away for us (even the tiramisu!). I also stopped by for an Aperol spritz almost everyday during their happy hour. It was a perfect mix of fizz and Aperol. The views from the patio seating are beautiful, from one side you can see the stunning hills with colourful homes and from the other you have a marina and the sea. There’s a kids trampoline just across the restaurant so if you have kids they can burn their energy there whilst you have your coffee. As for the service, I’ve only positives to say. The entire team was always smiling, happy to help and attentive to both me and my daughter. I can agree it’s not the fastest service however considering the location and the vibe, I would say Nona is a place where you go to relax and not look at the watch. I wish I’ve asked the names of all the staff, but they all were really great. I really hope we will come back one day. Keep up the good work Nona!
Practical Tips for Dining Vegetarian in Menton
Navigating the local food scene as a vegetarian is much easier when you understand the cultural nuances of the region. These practical strategies will help you avoid common pitfalls and discover hidden gems that might not be immediately obvious on a standard menu. By combining a little linguistic preparation with a willingness to explore side streets, you can eat exceptionally well without compromising your dietary preferences.
- Learn the French phrase for “no meat or fish” precisely. Simply saying “Je suis végétarien” can sometimes be interpreted as pescatarian in coastal France. Always clarify with “sans viande ni poisson” (without meat or fish) to ensure anchovies, tuna, or lardons are not added to an otherwise vegetarian-looking dish.
- Embrace Socca and Pissaladière with caution. Socca, the chickpea flatbread, is naturally vegan and a staple snack in Menton’s markets. However, traditional Pissaladière is always topped with anchovies and olives. If you see a version without anchovies, ask before ordering, as the base often still contains meat stock.
- Visit the Marché des Halles early. The covered market in the old town is the best place to assemble a picnic. Arrive before 11:00 AM to find vendors selling fresh fruit, local olive oil, tapenades, and cheeses. This is also where you can spot which restaurants are buying the best produce, often a sign of a kitchen that respects vegetables.
- Look for Italian-influenced trattorias over traditional brasseries. Because Menton is so close to Liguria, many kitchens excel at handmade pasta, risotto, and grilled vegetables. These menus almost always have more substantial vegetarian options than a classic French brasserie, which relies on meat-heavy plats du jour.
- Ask for the “menu du marché” or daily special. Even if a restaurant’s static menu looks limited, the daily special often features whatever vegetable is at its peak. Chefs in Menton are proud of their local courgettes, aubergines, and citrus, and they are usually happy to prepare a vegetarian plate if you ask politely before the kitchen gets busy.
The evolution of Menton’s dining scene means that vegetarians can now participate fully in the town’s gastronomic culture rather than observing it from the sidelines. The best meals here are not about restriction but about celebrating the extraordinary produce that grows in the terraced hills above the Mediterranean. From a simple plate of grilled vegetables drizzled with Menton lemon olive oil to a complex handmade ravioli stuffed with ricotta and herbs, the flavors are vibrant, fresh, and distinctly local.
As you wander the narrow, pastel-colored streets of the old town, let your curiosity guide you toward kitchens that display their vegetables proudly rather than hiding them behind a meat-centric menu. The restaurants highlighted above represent the best of what Menton has to offer for plant-forward diners, but the true joy of this town is discovering a small family-run spot where the owner remembers your name and brings you a dish that isn’t even on the menu. In Menton, eating well is a way of life, and vegetarians are no longer an afterthought.
