Honfleur’s cobbled lanes, slate-fronted houses and busy Vieux Bassin have long made it one of Normandy’s most photographed ports. Yet for all its gallery-lined streets and yacht-filled marina, this is still a working town with a deep maritime appetite. Travellers often assume that dining near the harbour means paying a premium for the view rather than the plate. The good news is that you can eat remarkably well here without draining your holiday budget.
The local food culture is built on honest, unfussy cooking. Expect cider-braised pork, mussels in cream, sole meunière, and some of the finest Camembert and Pont-l’Évêque you will ever taste. Because Honfleur sits where the Seine meets the Channel, seafood is naturally a highlight, but the surrounding Pays d’Auge farmland also supplies exceptional beef, poultry, apples and dairy. Affordable restaurants here tend to celebrate that regional bounty rather than chase international trends.
Budget dining in Honfleur does not mean sacrificing atmosphere. Some of the best-value tables are tucked a street or two back from the water, where locals eat in timbered dining rooms or on quiet terraces shaded by old stone walls. A fixed-price lunch menu, known as a formule, is your most reliable tool for eating well cheaply. Many kitchens offer two or three courses for a fraction of their evening à la carte prices.
Understanding when to eat also helps. Lunch is almost always better value than dinner, and weekday menus are usually cheaper than weekend ones. Booking ahead is wise even for casual spots, especially in July, August and during the Fête des Marins in May. If you arrive without a reservation, try dining just before 12:30 or after 13:30, when the first wave of diners begins to clear.
One thing to keep in mind is that Honfleur’s popularity means quality can vary from season to season. The best affordable kitchens remain busy with returning locals, not just tourists. A short walk away from the basin often rewards you with more careful cooking, friendlier service and prices that reflect neighbourhood loyalty rather than prime real estate.
Below is a carefully selected list of the best affordable restaurants in Honfleur right now. Each one offers good value, a genuine sense of place, and food that respects Norman tradition without overcharging for it.

Nice food , great location with street seating . Service a little spartan but helpful

Probably the best kids’ menu in town – a proper hamburger with fries and even an ice cream sundae, really great value! The fixed-price main courses are also excellent: both the chicken and the tartare were very good choices. It’s a small and friendly place, definitely worth a visit.

During a 5 day stay in beautiful Honfleur, we spent more time here than at any other bar or restaurant. Charles le Patron speaks good English and is always very welcoming. The Bar/Bistro is conveniently located a couple of streets back from the Vieux Bassin and, that is reflected in the prices. The food is locally sourced, good quality and well prepared. There are separate tables set aside outside for those who do not want to eat. You can have anything from one to three course on the set menu, starting at 15 euros. We had a variety of different dishes and enjoyed them all.
When l am next in Honfleur, l will certainly be visiting Charles again.

Amazing mussels — definitely order the cream sauce version. They use Isigny cream from Normandy, and you can really taste the difference. Generous portions, delicious food, and very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Fantastic place to taste Normandie food in Honfleur. Perfect atmosphere. The best beef selected from local suppliers. Best steaks. The owner is best advisor for a gourmet meal. Reasonable prices.

Lovely dinner here tonight, sat out in the sunshine on the outdoor tables. The host was very friendly and keen to help, and the food options were varied and interesting. 2 great vegetarian options (out of 5 total options!) so definitely vegetarian friendly. The meals were full of vegetables, tasted fresh and were made using seasonal ingredients. Drinks and desserts were tasty and local too! Highly recommend this little gem ☺️

A wonderful experience in the heart of Honfleur
Restaurant Sauvage is a true gem – beautiful setting, friendly staff, and excellent food. We enjoyed a perfectly cooked main course, a light and tasty poke bowl, and delicious desserts. We were especially impressed by the Duo cerise estragon – an original and beautifully balanced dessert that’s a treat for both the taste buds and the eyes.
A lovely surprise was the homemade cider – well-balanced and perfectly complementing the meal. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent. We highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates honest, creative cuisine with character and heart.

An incredible place. They mostly cater for take away orders but if you are lucky enough to spot a free table (one inside and two outside) go for it! The menu changes weekly, produce is local and organic and comes from the chef's parents garden; you can also taste apple cider and juice produced by his father. The food was simply scrumptious, so so delicious. A separate note on the place design, it is slick and minimalistic-ly chic. Highly recommend

During my recent business trip, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant that caught my attention on Google. With only two tables, this intimate spot offers a thoughtfully curated menu featuring meat, vegetarian, and fish dishes. Although it lacks the extensive setup of larger establishments, the chef’s dedication to crafting each dish is evident in the flavors. Don’t miss the ultimate highlight: the French toast dessert, which is absolutely top-notch and worth the visit alone.
Matt Scheinman★★★★★
Incredible restaurant with a rotating menu and great concept. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in Honfleur, especially those seeking creative and inspired takes using local ingredients. We had a wonderful experience and cannot recommend enough.

We found this spot on our way to Honfleur. Welcome us and the dog for a walk in booking. Sat in the courtyard area which is beautifully decorated. Our waitress spoke some English and was super friendly!
Burgers and chocolate mouse was 10/10! Hit the spot as we were starving!! Would definitely go back! Skip the tourist spots on the water!
Ruby Sabina★★★★★
Easily the best burger I’ve ever had in my life. So so so delicious. The drinks were also exceptional. Try the chocolate mousse! Also incredible. Really cool vibe. Good music playing. Absolutely give it a try!!!!
Arthur Molines★★★★★
The menu is mostly burgers, so vegetarian and vegan should probably go elsewhere.
For the meat and cheese lovers, this is your stop. Calling their items burgers doesn't make it justice. These burgers are elevated, rich and decadent. Probably one of the best burger I ever had. The amount of cheese on it was almost sinful. The price goes with it, at 20€ the burgers are not cheap, but well worth it.
The fries were also good.
The service was great. The restaurant offers limited seating inside and some seating outside. We were there at the opening and a line was forming, which says quite a lot about the popularity of the place. The inside is cute.
I happily recommend it and will be back if I get a chance.
Arfon Davies★★★★★
As many others have said, the burgers here are very good indeed. Very unique too - interesting combinations on offer that most first time visitors won't have tried before. The cheesecake is also something very special - this is my favourite dessert and I've eaten a lot of good cheesecakes in my time. This one was excellent - so good I could have ordered another. Highly recommend.
Iwan Davies★★★★★
It was amazing here.
When we first arrived it took them ages to even notice us waiting to be seated, they just walked past us.
However once we were seated they were quick to ask for what we wanted and we were served our food swiftly.
The food was exceptional, the burgers were unreal and delicious, with the fries also being tasty. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse which was delicious and my dad had the cheesecake, which he said was unbelievably good. If I could I would give the food a 6 out of 5.
The atmosphere was nice, with nice seating.
Overall it was very nice here and I would recommend coming.

Sérgio was hands down the friendliest guy we met in Honfleur. My boyfriend said it, and I'm 100% on board. This place is like a breath of fresh air compared to some other places around there. Sérgio was helpful, smily, funny and sells amazing food. Him and his wife run the place (she makes awesome sauces!).
Oh, and since they're Portuguese, you've got to eat some of the goodies from Portugal. They have those heavenly pastéis de nata and the pastéis de bacalhau. And don't forget about the Super Bock beer – you can't go wrong with that! We had a lovely time!
Silvino Afonso★★★★★
If you are looking for Portuguese food, this is the place to go!! Quality vs price!! And what quality!! It was just like home, thank you!

Delicious galettes, crêpes, and cider!
The galette dough itself was one of the tastiest we’ve had. I had a comté and egg galette and it was very good. Comté gives much more flavor than the usual emmental.
We also tried their dessert crêpes and house pancake. Both were good. Personally the pancake tasted and felt like an American pancake and was just ok. I’d recommend a regular crêpes more.
However, the galette was SO greasy. It looked as if they had poured oil on top of it when it was done. This was unappealing and made it heavier than it needed to be.
I also did not love the lack of customization possible and the harsh, unfriendly service by one of the waitresses. It felt like she was annoyed that we were there despite the place being half empty at the time we arrived.
Mackers★★★★★
Only stayed here for about half an hour but their crepe with caramel beurre salé was fantastic and their pour of cidre was a refreshing complement without carrying too high of an alcohol content. Would highly recommend and would go back.
Only criticism is that I went with a big tour group and some people in our group didnt receive what they had ordered
Chelsea Arganbright★★★★★
Not only the best gluten free gallete I’ve ever had, but a very cool environment and incredibly hospitable, friendly owner and staff. Really blown away!

We had the chocolate crepe it was very tasty we also had it with whipped cream
And some other crepes i can really recommend it.

It was brilliant here.
Service was fast and all the staff were very kind.
The crêpes were delicious and I highly recommend the chocolate one or the salted caramel.
The atmosphere is also very nice.

Highly recommend. One of our best fish dishes 🐟.
Adam Ren★★★★☆
Really professional and genuine service.👍
The mussel is fresh and generous portion.
Nice choice of oyster on the menu, really delicious. ( suggest change the serving bowl , oyster juice run out or add ice underneath the oyster)
grey shrimp soup really under season can't bring out the umami
fish of the day is not seasoned, with a bland cream sauce, served with side veg that was really overcooked. (egg plant in it is under cooked at the same time)
This poor quality plat I will only expect in some poorly organized large scale tourist trap restaurant
Pim Beckers★★★★★
First time at L’envie and definitely had a good time. First of all, the service was very good. Very friendly, professional and well-mannered. The food was very tasty and of good quality. Would definitely recommend the mussels with the cream sauce. The fries, although soft, were very flavoured. If I’m ever back in Honfleur, I’d go back to L’envie!

We were a family of 15 (2 grandparents, 6 parents, 7 young adult grandkids) on our annual family trip. This year we traveled through Normandy and Brittany.
During our visit to Honfleur, we booked lunch at L’Envie. It is a small, charming restaurant that was a fantastic find. They were incredibly welcoming, even for such a large group, and all the dishes were superb. I would not hesitate to go again and highly recommend it!
Iwan Davies★★★★☆
It was very nice here.
The food was delicious, I highly recommend the steak and fries as it was delicious.
Service was quite slow to ask for our order but once we ordered it came quickly.

So glad that we found this wine bar !!! 🍷🧀
The owners were very friendly and their recommendations for the charcuterie board and wine pairing were spot on. The large photograph of the All Blacks rugby Haka was taken by the owner. Would certainly recommend this venue, there is also extra space upstairs with views of the church.

Really nice place to stop for an aperitivo or for a small dinner.
Owner is really nice and available. Nice selection of wines and charcuterie. Great video as well!

Adorable wine bar on a quiet picturesque street just steps away from the crowds. The owner is lovely. Extensive regional wine selection along with light snacks. My husband had champagne and some wine while I enjoyed Apple juice from Normandie. The walls are decorated with his and his wife’s photos (he was a sports photographer).
Highly recommend!

Very good wine bar worth a visit if you are in Honfleur! The staffs are super friendly and the shop owner she can recommend very good wine that you’d like - just tell her what kind of wine you like -dry / sweet and she will come with small amount for you to taste before give you a full glass so that you know for sure that you like it. We also ordered a cheese platter and it was delicious too!

Food is average but service and hygiene is very bad. You wait 45 mn for your Dish to arrive and at least 30 mins for dessert. There was a big piece of hair our dish. Next table got a dirty spoon for dessert.
Arick McNiel-Cho★★★★★
Wonderful lunch. Reasonable prices and frankly, I believe they had the best Muscles of all the places we have eaten. They appeared of higher quality and were quite large consistently... (Maybe luck of draw... but other places we have had Muscles have appeared much smaller in size... Not an expert in Muscles so take for what it is worth)
The Scallop and Shrimp Tartar was very tasty to me... My wife wished it was more in the style of Ceviche, however, she still enjoyed the dish.
We also had the Honfleur Casserole. Excellent.
Honfleur has been very good for restaurants.
Dog Friendly.. Highly recommend.
F. R.★★☆☆☆
3 course menu is a tourist trap. NOT TASTY. Risotto was more like a pudding. Mashed potatoes were tasteless, etc.
Service is not very responsive and we had to wait a lot for them.
In the end we’ve got things we did not order in our bill, which I consider a scam.
The view is stunning though, and other people seem to enjoy their food from the regular menu.
Teresa Patterson★☆☆☆☆
Visited for a spot of lunch after coming off the sight seeing boat , waiter rushed us to make our choice , we made our choice , the meal came , I was expecting fresh fish not Birds Eye frozen , chips were over cooked , presentation was good , my husband was expecting a burger ie meat , but it was all cheese , felt the service was really bad , we weren’t asked if we would like a dessert , we were just left there!!! Until we went up to pay the bill , we visit Honfleur often but we will not be returning to this restaurant again
Alberto Ávila★☆☆☆☆
There is no worse experience than someone trying to deceive you in such a blatant way.
My wife and I ordered a set menu that included a starter, main course, and dessert. Apparently, the dessert wasn’t included—according to the gentleman who served us (first deception)—so we ordered one to share. The bill was simple: 2 set menus plus the dessert (€49.80), and the receipt was correct, so I proceeded to pay by credit card. The card reader asked for the PIN... surprise! The machine displayed €79.80. Had it not asked for the PIN, I probably would’ve been tricked right away (though I would have realized it later). I told him there was a mistake, and he snatched the card from my hands and began acting as if the card was the problem.
In short, disgraceful behavior.

A very pleasant brasserie for a meal with quality dishes. Just one small drawback regarding the portion sizes. The salad is quite decent, but the steak tartare is a bit small considering the price. Otherwise, the service is quick and the staff very pleasant and professional.

An ideal brasserie for a quick lunch! The staff is welcoming and friendly, the menu is varied, and there's something for everyone.
The food is simple, generous, and good quality—perfect for an efficient lunch break without compromising on taste. And when the sun is shining, the terrace is a real bonus: very pleasant for enjoying a good meal outdoors.
I recommend this place for a quick, tasty, and hassle-free meal!

An excellent place!
The food is delicious, prepared with fresh, homemade ingredients.

A brasserie I highly recommend, whether with friends, family, or colleagues; the service is quick and efficient!

We had a wonderful lunch! The starter and main course were delicious (roasted leeks with gribiche sauce, tuna tataki with avocado mousse), and my partner especially enjoyed the tomato pesto and parmesan. We had a lovely meal on the terrace where our dogs were welcome. And as an added bonus, our waiter had a great sense of humor (I forgot to ask his name). It was a great experience, and we'll definitely be back.

We had a fabulous dinner to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and were charmed by this restaurant. The interior has a great theme with sausage dogs and makes you want to explore every single corner. The menu has an Asian cuisine twist and everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The upside down bowl and the salad were both excellent and the drinks were of great quality and price (very good Prosecco for anyone that has missed a glass of this).

Cute little restaurant that we enjoyed very much, African and French vibes together, the chef makes a great combination. We were lucky to find a seat for two without reservation. We tried the shrimp tempura, hamburger and the famous upside down. All delicious with combination to great vines.
A must try local option in Honfleur as there are a lot of touristic restaurants which I did not like. It is a dog friendly restaurant and you can see and pet Sissi there, she is really cute. The owners and the service were implacable. If we come to Honfleur again, we will definitely do another visit to this lovely restaurant.

We could not fault this place. The welcome was wonderful, the service fantastic and the food utterly delicious. We really appreciated the effort to understand our poor French and we really appreciated how welcome we were made to feel. Thank you again for a really lovely evening.

I went yesterday to get a dinner with my friends. The staff was very kind and offered a place to sit within 15minutes. I ordered beef with green peppers. It was tasty and yummy. Nice scenery to sit and eat outside.

After a long walk, we stopped at Sissi & Voltaire for a warm drink. We and our dog were given a very friendly welcome. The cosy atmosphere, the cheerful mood and warm welcome prompted us to spontaneously decide to eat something too. We are vegans and our wishes were taken into account as a matter of course and without any fuss. The food was extra delicious, beautifully presented and served quickly. We felt completely at home! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, we would love to come back!

very busy spot - but they had a table and we enjoyed the food and service. Oysters were fresh and well served. moules frites was tasty - chips rather than fries which seems to be the Normandy way! Good service. Nice place.

The female staff member who greeted us was unbelievably rude, arrogant and hostile. Her behavior was absolutely disgraceful. Honfleur is a beautiful and welcoming town, but people like her seriously damage its reputation and are an embarrassment to local hospitality. Shameful service.

A great experience with the family! We had reserved in advance, which appeared to be quite necessary, when we arrived at 7pm. The restaurant was quite packed at 7.15. We had our little dog with us, which was no issue. The service was excellent, the food as well. We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. All 4 of us had the best time. The dog slept through the whole experience😀

Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤
The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!

Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music!
Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit.
Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port.
Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.

The best meal I’ve had in France so far!
We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh.
The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious.
Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.

I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded

A fantastic restaurant- you could tell the staff are happy to be there! The crepes we had were delicious and filling. We tried the Normandie and the pepper steak. Very comfortable chairs and such a pretty view! My favourite of our trip so far.

We came to Honfleur for a walk and decided it was the perfect opportunity to have a classic French crêpe for breakfast. We found this little crêperie through Google reviews and decided to give it a try.
I ordered a savory crêpe with salmon, while my husband had one with bacon. Both were very filling and tasty. The only thing I personally wasn’t completely used to was the batter, as I normally prefer a slightly sweeter taste, but I believe this is the traditional style used for savory French galettes, so it was simply a matter of personal preference.
I also ordered a freshly made fruit and vegetable juice, which was really refreshing, while my husband tried the cider — also very good and a perfect match with the crêpes.
The only downside was the service. Our waitress didn’t speak English, which of course is absolutely fine, but even when it was clear that we couldn’t understand French, she continued answering us only in French, which made communication quite difficult. We also ordered an additional drink that was unfortunately forgotten, and overall the service didn’t feel particularly warm or welcoming.
That said, the food itself was very good, and it was a lovely way to start our day in beautiful Honfleur and experience a classic French crêperie.

Awesome ice cream place in Honfleur. The ice cream guy was pretty nice and the ice creams were really creamy, good flavour.
I think the customer service could’ve been a bit more proactive in terms of cleaning the table we chose to sit in before we asked a couple times, and perhaps the toilets could’ve been a tad cleaner. That’s why I wouldn’t rate them all five stars.
Other than that, awesome place! 100% recommended !

It is very delicious!! We tried the ice cream not the crepe. Although the smell of crepe was so nice! They are so generous with the quantity and the flavors are so delicious and they are truly homemade flavors 😋 the owners of the restaurant are very nice.
I do recommend this place if you love ice cream!

Absolutely fantastic! The menu is simple, affordable and tastes great!. My favorite are the fries. They remind me of place in the US called "Long John Silver's". I wish this food truck all of the success in the world because it is much deserved!

We had such a lovely experience here! We arrived pretty late, but the sweetest guy at the burger stand still made us fresh burgers, and they were SO good! He was genuinely so kind and welcoming, and even let us try different snacks and sauces. It was such a sweet gesture and made the whole experience feel extra special. You could really tell he wanted us to have a good time and enjoy the food. The burgers were delicious, but his kindness and hospitality made it even better. Thank you for going the extra mile for us, even so late at night! We really appreciate it and will definitely remember this place. If you’re nearby, go get yourself a burger here. You won’t regret it!

Tips for Eating Affordably in Honfleur
Saving money on food in Honfleur is less about finding the cheapest menu and more about knowing how local dining works. A little planning, timing and willingness to step away from the most obvious tourist streets will dramatically improve both the quality and price of your meals. These practical tips will help you eat like a local while keeping your daily food budget sensible.
-
Choose the lunch formule over dinner. Most restaurants offer a two- or three-course set menu at midday for between €16 and €25, while the same kitchen may charge twice that in the evening. If you want to try a pricier bistro, lunch is the time to do it.
-
Walk at least two streets back from the Vieux Bassin. Prices drop noticeably once you leave the immediate harbour edge. Rue Haute, Rue de l’Homme de Bois and the streets around Sainte-Catherine often hide small crêperies, cafés and family-run restaurants with fairer prices.
-
Look for blackboard menus written in French. Restaurants that change their menu daily and write it by hand are usually cooking from what is fresh and affordable that morning. This often means better value and more authentic Norman dishes than laminated multilingual menus aimed at tourists.
-
Share a galette or savoury crêpe for a light meal. Honfleur has excellent crêperies where a buckwheat galette filled with ham, cheese, egg or mushrooms costs far less than a full restaurant meal. Add a bowl of cider and you have a satisfying lunch for under €15.
-
Buy picnic supplies from the market or local shops. The Wednesday and Saturday markets near the Bassin are perfect for assembling a cheap meal. Pair a baguette from a local boulangerie with Pont-l’Évêque, rillettes, fruit and a bottle of Normandy cider for a memorable meal by the water.
-
Watch for the words “menu du jour” or “plat du jour.” These daily specials are often the best value on the menu and show what the kitchen is confident cooking that day. They are frequently based on seasonal ingredients bought in bulk, which keeps the price down.
-
Limit drinks and stick to tap water. In France, asking for “une carafe d’eau” is completely normal and free. Soft drinks and bottled water can add €4 to €6 per person to a meal. Spend that money on a better main course or a local cider instead.
-
Avoid the noon rush on weekends. If you can, eat an early lunch around 12:00 or a late one after 13:30. You will get faster service, a calmer table and often the same menu without the pressure of turning the table quickly.
Honfleur rewards travellers who slow down enough to look beyond the postcard view. The town’s best affordable food is rarely flashy. It is found in a warm bowl of mussels, a crisp buckwheat galette, a pork terrine made down the road, or a simple apple tart served with thick crème fraîche. These are dishes that speak to Normandy’s orchards, pastures and fishing boats rather than to passing trends.
By timing your meals well, ordering the daily specials and wandering a few streets away from the crowds, you can eat with genuine pleasure without overspending. The harbour will still be there after lunch, and you will enjoy it even more on a full stomach and a relaxed budget.
