Honfleur remains one of Normandy’s most magnetic destinations, where slate-fronted houses reflect in the Vieux Bassin and the scent of the sea drifts through cobbled lanes. For visitors, the town is not just a visual masterpiece but also a deeply rewarding place to eat. The local dining scene reflects Normandy’s agricultural richness, from orchards and dairy farms to the fishing boats that still work the estuary.
Choosing where to eat in a town so popular with travelers can be overwhelming, especially when many establishments cater primarily to the tourist flow. The best tables, however, balance tradition with genuine hospitality, often tucked along side streets or overlooking the water. These restaurants honor Norman culinary heritage without relying on clichés.
The following selection focuses on establishments that offer consistency, local character, and a strong sense of place. You will find everything from refined tasting menus to casual crêperies and seafood counters where the day’s catch dictates the menu. Each recommendation has been evaluated for its reputation among locals, quality of ingredients, and overall dining experience.
Whether you are visiting for a weekend or staying longer to explore the Pays d’Auge, understanding the local restaurant landscape will enrich your trip. Expect plenty of butter, cream, Camembert, apples, and some of the freshest oysters and mussels in northern France. Reservations are strongly advised during high season, particularly for dinner.
The restaurants below represent a cross-section of Honfleur’s culinary identity, from historic brasseries to contemporary bistros. They are arranged to help you find the right atmosphere for any occasion, whether you are seeking a romantic dinner, a family lunch, or a quick bite between gallery visits.
Use this guide as a starting point for your own culinary exploration. The best meal in Honfleur is often the one enjoyed slowly, with a glass of local cider or Calvados, while watching the harbor lights shimmer on the water.

Lovely dinner here tonight, sat out in the sunshine on the outdoor tables. The host was very friendly and keen to help, and the food options were varied and interesting. 2 great vegetarian options (out of 5 total options!) so definitely vegetarian friendly. The meals were full of vegetables, tasted fresh and were made using seasonal ingredients. Drinks and desserts were tasty and local too! Highly recommend this little gem ☺️

A wonderful experience in the heart of Honfleur
Restaurant Sauvage is a true gem – beautiful setting, friendly staff, and excellent food. We enjoyed a perfectly cooked main course, a light and tasty poke bowl, and delicious desserts. We were especially impressed by the Duo cerise estragon – an original and beautifully balanced dessert that’s a treat for both the taste buds and the eyes.
A lovely surprise was the homemade cider – well-balanced and perfectly complementing the meal. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent. We highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates honest, creative cuisine with character and heart.

An incredible place. They mostly cater for take away orders but if you are lucky enough to spot a free table (one inside and two outside) go for it! The menu changes weekly, produce is local and organic and comes from the chef's parents garden; you can also taste apple cider and juice produced by his father. The food was simply scrumptious, so so delicious. A separate note on the place design, it is slick and minimalistic-ly chic. Highly recommend

During my recent business trip, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant that caught my attention on Google. With only two tables, this intimate spot offers a thoughtfully curated menu featuring meat, vegetarian, and fish dishes. Although it lacks the extensive setup of larger establishments, the chef’s dedication to crafting each dish is evident in the flavors. Don’t miss the ultimate highlight: the French toast dessert, which is absolutely top-notch and worth the visit alone.

Incredible restaurant with a rotating menu and great concept. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in Honfleur, especially those seeking creative and inspired takes using local ingredients. We had a wonderful experience and cannot recommend enough.

Emily Garcet★★★★☆
Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤
The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!

Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music!
Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit.
Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port.
Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.

The best meal I’ve had in France so far!
We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh.
The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious.
Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.

I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded

A fantastic restaurant- you could tell the staff are happy to be there! The crepes we had were delicious and filling. We tried the Normandie and the pepper steak. Very comfortable chairs and such a pretty view! My favourite of our trip so far.

Really professional and genuine service.👍
The mussel is fresh and generous portion.
Nice choice of oyster on the menu, really delicious. ( suggest change the serving bowl , oyster juice run out or add ice underneath the oyster)
grey shrimp soup really under season can't bring out the umami
fish of the day is not seasoned, with a bland cream sauce, served with side veg that was really overcooked. (egg plant in it is under cooked at the same time)
This poor quality plat I will only expect in some poorly organized large scale tourist trap restaurant

First time at L’envie and definitely had a good time. First of all, the service was very good. Very friendly, professional and well-mannered. The food was very tasty and of good quality. Would definitely recommend the mussels with the cream sauce. The fries, although soft, were very flavoured. If I’m ever back in Honfleur, I’d go back to L’envie!

We were a family of 15 (2 grandparents, 6 parents, 7 young adult grandkids) on our annual family trip. This year we traveled through Normandy and Brittany.
During our visit to Honfleur, we booked lunch at L’Envie. It is a small, charming restaurant that was a fantastic find. They were incredibly welcoming, even for such a large group, and all the dishes were superb. I would not hesitate to go again and highly recommend it!

It was very nice here.
The food was delicious, I highly recommend the steak and fries as it was delicious.
Service was quite slow to ask for our order but once we ordered it came quickly.
The view out of the window was lovely.

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch on Mother's Day consisting of scallop carpaccio, trout confit & a delicious poultry main dish. Every dish was beautifully presented & tasted great. The service was kind & relaxed.
Florian Sentuc-Nerz★★★★★
We spent a wonderful evening enjoying the current menu. Every course was creative and extremely well balanced.
The sauces deserve a special mention: the poultry with mushroom sauce was rich, silky and perfectly seasoned - truly unforgettable.
You can even catch a glimpse into the kitchen and watch the young team at work, which adds a cool touch.
Service was warm and attentive throughout, and I even got to practice a bit of French, which made the night even more fun.
A memorable experience from start to finish!

I had a very nice dinner here of coquilles saint jacques with mushrooms and parsnips. The meal was flavorful and nicely presented. It was not very filling for the prices but i still enjoyed the flavors and textures of the meal.
The dessert was a disappointment. I was excited when i saw the description of chocolate, maïs, and piment. I was expecting something perhaps inspired by mexican flavors. What i got was a chocolate dessert with pieces of corn. It was not inspired or refined but confusing and off putting. The chocolate itself was nice, it had a good texture and flavor. The piment sauce also had a good flavor but it looked a bit like ketchup and wasn’t very appetizing. The corn was gross and has no place in a dessert.
For a restaurant that seems to want to be upscale this was a shocking choice of dessert that honestly made me not want to return, especially for the prices.
I might suggest something more creative like a masa(corn) cracker and infusing the chocolate with chili. An inspiring flavor combination that fell flat.
The service was great, the waiter was kind and the atmosphere was relaxing.

EXCELLENT RESTAURANT WITH GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE.
THE TUNA TATAKI AND THE TURBOT WERE BOTH SUPERB AND THE CHOCOLATE DESSERT WAS MAGNIFICENT TOO. THE WINE LIST WAS ALSO REASONABLY PRICED . THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FINE DINING RESTAURANT TO NAYONE VISITING HONFLEUR. COMPLIMENTS TO ALL.

A lovely seafood restaurant in the town of Honfleur. Me and my family had our first dinner here in our France trip. The atmosphere was very elegant, the service very helpful, and the food was good quality. 🐟
Glen Vaal★★★★★
This restaurant is very popular with good reason. They serve a wide range of very fresh seafood. I had a selection as a starter which included: oysters, king prawn, langoustine, winkles, wells and clams. The main courses are also excellent, though my traditional fish soup was too large for me to finish. The wine list is excellent and you won't pay a fortune for very good wine. Because they are busy, service seemed a bit rushed, but forgive them, they really care and deliver a high quality experience (NB a little french language knowledge will help you)

Trés excellente!
Such a nice vibe inside, our server was very helpful with recommending a fantastic, local wine for myself and my partner. We had the oysters (unreal!) with two daily “surprise” accompaniments. The first was a merguez spice blend with cucumber which was unique and delicious. The second a sweet pickle blend (also scrumptious!) Our mains, a local whitefish for my partner and trout for myself, were also delicious.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice dinner with some modern, creative twists on traditional French seafood!

A very cozy little restaurant tucked into the charming streets of beautiful Honfleur. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable and welcome after a walk along the harbor.
Service was truly delightful. The two young waitresses were incredibly polite, attentive and helpful throughout the evening. They were always present at the right moment, answered every question with patience and genuine kindness, and made the dinner feel warm and personal.
As for the food – it was good, though not unforgettable. The oysters were fresh and enjoyable, definitely the highlight of the meal. The fish was decent but rather ordinary, and the pasta was simply… pasta – correct, but without any particular character or memorable touch.
Overall, a pleasant dinner in a lovely setting with excellent hospitality. You come here more for the atmosphere and the caring service than for a culinary revelation.

The service was very nice. We enjoyed the wine recommendation and also dessert. However, the main course that we ordered was not up to expectation. Octopus was super rubbery (our fault for not voicing out). The potato that came with the steak was burnt. However, the service was good!

L'Oxalis was a really lovely dining experience overall. The service stood out right from the start — we were initially seated inside, but when we asked to move outdoors to enjoy the beautiful square, the staff were more than happy to accommodate us. Throughout the meal, the waiters were incredibly attentive, regularly checking in to make sure everything was okay. They were warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, which made a big difference.
The food was superb. The oysters were fresh, the foie gras was rich and delicious, and the mains were excellent — we had the lamb and the salmon, both cooked perfectly. The only small downside was the menu selection, as I would have liked to see a bit more seafood on offer.
Dessert was decent, though not quite as strong as the rest of the meal. I tried the mille-feuille out of curiosity, but it didn’t fully win me over.
Overall, it’s a very good restaurant with fantastic service and high-quality food. I’d definitely recommend it.

Really excellent food. I had the fish of the day, served with a quinoa risotto in a saffron and shellfish sauce. My husband had the tataki. Both perfectly made. For our daughter it was fish of the day with best mashed potato ever and lovelycarrots. Kind and considerate wait staff. Great find!

We’ve been in France, Brittany and Normandy for two weeks and to be frank the meals out - from cheap to expensive -have been mixed. However at L Oxalis we arrived at what we wanted from French cooking. Not overcomplicated, great sources, interesting choices, and fantastic tastes. A nice place to finish.

A wonderful restaurant showcasing the best of French cuisine. Fresh, locally sourced seafood takes center stage, complemented by attentive service and a creative menu with refined presentation. The oysters and shellfish are exceptionally fresh — truly a highlight of the dining experience.

On Christmas Day, we had the great pleasure of enjoying a seven-course meal at Le Lingot—an exceptional experience in every way.
The menu was intuitively and ingeniously put together by the chef on the day and was impressive in every way. Whether it was lobster, scallops, caviar with oysters, or the perfectly cooked sous-vide veal with freshly grated truffles – every single course was culinary excellence and characterized by excellent product quality.
The service was attentive, warm, and perfectly coordinated. The cozy, intimate atmosphere, accompanied by atmospheric chanson music, lent the evening a very special elegance.
A particular highlight was the personal finale, when we had the opportunity to thank Frédéric personally for this wonderful meal. An evening of the highest standard – excellent and absolutely recommendable!

If you want a dining experiences like no other, make a reservation and go to Le Lingot. The Chef (Fred) prepares amazing dishes daily. There is no set menu, but go there with an open mind to be surprised and have your taste buds overwhelmed with amazing flavors. Don’t skimp and do only the 4 or 6 course. Splurge and do the full menu, you will not be disappointed. The wine selection is vast, start out with a glass of Champagne and then do a bottle that pairs well with the evening selection. They have multiple price points. The atmosphere is so elegant and nice. This is one of the top 3 restaurants I’ve ever dined. If you have a special someone and want a special dinner experience don’t miss this in Honfleur.

I was nervous about eating here and being served what they cooked rather than being able to order what I wanted, but it was amazing. One of the best restaurants I ever ate in with fantastic service in a cozy and beautiful setting. All 7 courses were excellent. This restaurant deserves at least one Michelin star if not more and the price was very reasonable for the quality. If you are in town I would highly recommend reserving a table.

Great little find in Honfleur. We went there for Friday lunch. I ordered the midi lunch option and all food was top notch and excellently executed. Definitely worth the additional money spent in comparison to the other local options. The self made Calvados / Strawberry mix was a great conclusion to an awesome experience. They even made us feel very welcome with a 19 month old.

Not bad, we were expecting a bit more on the food, it wasn't as tasty as it did look and probably not at the level of the price, but was good enough. The service was a bit messy but nothing catastrophic. It was all "good but not enough" hence a rating of 4.

From the warm welcome by the owner to the last au revoir, it was a delightful and delicious evening. The service was attentive. The food (manager’s husband is the chef) was fabulous…sweet-yet salty-oysters, sea bream tartare with an explosion of flavors, and the hake on leek with a light sesame flavor. Dessert was a light chocolate mousse with a light sprinkle of something akin to granola (gave a nice mix of texture).
The restaurant has a beautiful decor and is not big…so make reservations. We felt the price of the food and wine was more than reasonable (especially being a tourist town)!!!

Practical Tips for Dining in Honfleur
To make the most of your dining experiences, it helps to understand how the local restaurant culture works. Honfleur’s popularity means that peak times can be busy, but a little planning will help you avoid tourist traps and secure tables at the places you most want to try. These tips will improve both the quality of your meals and the ease of your visit.
First, always book ahead for dinner, especially from May through September and on weekends. Many of the best kitchens are small, and walk-in availability is rare after 7:30 p.m. Second, pay attention to menu formulas rather than ordering strictly à la carte; many restaurants offer excellent value through two- or three-course set menus at lunch. Third, embrace Norman specialties such as mussels cooked with cream and cider, sole meunière, and locally aged Camembert. Fourth, ask for a table away from the immediate harborfront if you prefer a quieter meal with fewer passing crowds. Fifth, remember that service in France is unhurried by design, so allow at least ninety minutes for a full lunch or dinner. Finally, check whether the restaurant uses fresh local seafood rather than frozen imports; the difference in flavor is significant, especially for shellfish.
Honfleur’s dining scene rewards those who look beyond the most obvious storefronts. A short walk from the Vieux Bassin often leads to quieter streets where chefs cook with more freedom and prices feel fairer. Even the most tourist-friendly spots can offer excellent meals if you know what to order and when to visit.
As you explore, let the rhythm of the town guide you. A morning market visit, an afternoon cider tasting, and a long dinner by the water create a natural flow that celebrates Normandy’s culinary identity. Whatever you choose, the memory of a well-prepared meal in Honfleur will stay with you long after you leave the harbor behind.
