12 Best Steakhouses in Arles

Sitting down to a perfectly seared cut of beef, a glass of local red wine in hand, is one of the great pleasures of travelling through Provence. While Arles is globally celebrated for its Roman ruins and Van Gogh heritage, the city’s culinary scene offers a surprisingly robust selection of meat-centric restaurants. From the rustic charm of Camargue bull stew to the refined elegance of French steak-frites, the dining landscape here is deeply connected to the land.

Unlike the seafood-heavy menus of the nearby Mediterranean coast, Arles leans into its agricultural roots. The surrounding Camargue region is famous for its distinctive breeds of cattle, specifically the Taureau de Camargue and the Biòu, which offer a leaner, more intense flavor profile than standard beef. This local terroir provides a unique tasting experience that you simply cannot replicate elsewhere in the country.

Finding the perfect steakhouse here isn’t just about looking for the biggest chunk of meat; it is about understanding the atmosphere. Whether you prefer a bustling bistro tucked into a cobblestone alley or a modern grill room with a view of the Rhône, Arles offers a spectrum of experiences. The best establishments balance high-quality sourcing with the French mastery of sauce and preparation.

As a visitor or a local, navigating the dining options can be overwhelming, especially during the high season when tourist traps abound. You want to ensure that your money is spent on a memorable meal, not just a convenient location. Knowing where the locals go for their Sunday lunch or where the best dry-aged ribeye is served can make or break your evening.

We have analyzed the local dining scene, considered ingredient sourcing, and evaluated the consistency of the kitchens to bring you a curated list. This guide focuses on establishments that prioritize meat quality, proper grilling techniques, and the authentic Provençal ambiance that makes dining in Arles so special.

Below, we have compiled a selection of the top venues that truly understand the art of the grill and the importance of hospitality.

The Steak was perfectly cooked and the Burger meat was fresh. The pepper sauce was watery, i expected something more thick. The dessert was a disappointment, you can taste the sweetness but you could not tell the flavor or anything, it was just something sweet, and the dough was not fresh. About the service i would like to say that there was only 1 person running and taking care of the guests (sorry for not asking the name, he was asian looking), the rest (3) was mostly walking around while this one guy was serving everyone, so thank you for he’s hard work. And for last, there were s one restroom for all, with 2 “separate” toilets, which were not clean.

A very good lunch at Bistrot Braisé; the flank steak was excellent and very generous, as were the fries. For meat lovers, it's a good place, even if it's a bit out of the way, as it's outside the center of Arles.

Excellent restaurant, fast service. Beautiful decor, clean restrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely return.

My husband and I came and had a wonderful time. The welcome was truly warm and attentive. The meal was delicious; we ate very, very well. It was my husband's birthday, and everything was perfect for the occasion. A very kind team, a great atmosphere, and excellent food. We loved it and will gladly return. Thank you again!

What a brilliant spot in Arles. We had such a wonderful evening here, and every single dish was genuinely delicious. The food was spot on, from the tasty croquettes and rillettes to start, right through to the mains. The pork served under the smoking glass dome was not just fun theatre, it tasted incredible, and the creamy polenta on the side was pure comfort food. The baked cheese topped with roasted tomatoes and crunchy crumbs was another standout favourite. Paired with an ice cold bottle of Deutz Rosé champagne and really warm, friendly service, it made for a relaxed, memorable dinner on the terrace. Just be sure to book well in advance, as it gets very popular and tables fill up fast! Highly recommend giving this place a visit if you are anywhere near Arles.
Thomas Kaupert★★★★★
The staff give the impression that they really enjoy their work. They’re proud of the food, but not arrogant about it. They certainly have every reason to be proud of the food and the atmosphere. The lively, cheerful atmosphere in the restaurant showed just that. And our own mood was great right from the start. When the people at the next table enthusiastically recommend and praise the wine, dishes and everything else to you, you know that others are also enjoying the evening, the food and the service! Thanks to the whole team for the great experience.

Dropped in without reservation at 7. Got the last unreserved table. 5 minutes later the place was completely packed on a Monday evening. The eponymous smoked pork belly dish is a must try. Outstanding! Rigatoni with meatballs are also very good. Tuna appetizer as well as the main dish were different but both very good. The dessert is also excellent. Surprised how good everything is. We were lucky to be able to drop in and get a table

I brought a group of 12 travelers to Cochon Qui Fume in Arles for our farewell dinner, and it could not have been a more fitting choice. We ordered à la carte, and everything—from start to finish—was excellent. The service was warm, attentive, and seamless, making our group feel truly welcomed. The food was absolutely delicious across the board. The highlight, of course, was their signature dish, Cochon Qui Fume. Its theatrical presentation added a memorable and playful touch—perfectly à propos for a farewell evening. It gave the dinner a sense of occasion and delight that we will all remember. A wonderful way to end our tour. Highly recommended.

Excellent food, excellent service. The dessert could have been better—we had the choux and found it a bit stale. The food, however, was amazing!

We arrived 20minutes before the kitchen opened, we were offered drinks and were allowed to wait in the restaurant! The service was very very nice and friendly! We sat outside with our dog. The food was very tasty and well cooked, the chef knows how to do his job! We loved every bit!

Great atmosphere and really great food!!! Thank you very much Titi foor the amazing service!!!! Only thing. You can’t pay by card. Cash only. But the rest was great

Not great at all. The moules were frozen and with a weird white sauce on top. The pork ribs were as dry as the landscape. The only redeeming pieces were les baguettes and the potatoes. Avoid.
Joel Demay★★★★★
Amazing gem for all meat lovers. This has to be the best steakhouse in all of Camargue. The chef is won the award for best BBQ in France two years in a row. The staff is super helpful, very knowledgeable about the wines and the food. Great location. At the end of the day it’s about the basics... great product (amazing meat), great chef, and lovely staff. It’s a winning combination. I recommend it 100%

The restaurant was not yet open for dinner, but we could have a drink. There was no card whatsoever, everyone in the restaurant was smoking inside, including the waitress. So we left.

Dined here twice during our stay in Arles; we were served by Hugo who was extremely kind and patient, he spoke to us in a surprisingly flawless italian too. The food was also great. Recommended! 🙂
Gloria Stark★★☆☆☆
Poor quality of Ribeye steak, too tough, they should change suppliers. The sirloin steak was ok, although the bitter part of the burned parts ruined the taste. Maybe the grill needs some attention. The salad was only lettuce! The salad on arrival was very good. The staff very nice. QR Menu in English helps 😃
Danni Garcia-Havens★★★★★
Buffalo Grill is an amazing place to go! The service was excellent and very accommodating to our group of 9 people. I loved the food, especially the “mozzarella” sticks. I wish I could bring it back to the US! Overall, it was a great experience with great food. I would highly recommend this as a place to go if you are in the area!
Raoul Naegele★★★★★
Good, friendly and fast service. In fact the fastest service I experienced at any BG, ever. At most branches it usually takes some time to get served, mainly due to staffing issues.
Chris Buntschu★★☆☆☆
The atmosphere is nice and the staff was fine – but that’s about it. The French beef entrecôte, advertised as tender, came out flat, chewy and tough like a shoe sole. Ordered medium rare, served completely overcooked and dry. The burger was decent, the only thing worth eating. Chicken wings tasted like they came straight from a wholesale freezer, fried without any seasoning or marinade. Desserts and sundaes were tiny – you have to search the glass to find them. For a big chain, very disappointing. Poor value for money.

I had the 8 course chef's selection and it was really fantastic. Excellent flavorful dishes that were still real food and not a chef's science experiment. 😉 I was stuffed and satisfied by the end of the evening. The waiter was 'casual professional' and spoke excellent English. The overall atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable, not at all stuffy or overly formal. Very pleasant outside dining terrace. Can't recommend it highly enough! 😀
Karen B★★★★★
Absolutely exquisite! Exquisitely delicious multiple Michelin Star quality food with gorgeous plating and unusual ingredients combined in an amazing, photo worthy and delicious way. Terrific, attentive, bilingual service and lovely atmosphere. If you are looking for a truly great meal and experience in Arles, this is your choice. The following has nothing to do with the restaurant's food review, but is relevant to the exceptional service. I'm American from San Francisco Bay Area California, and unfortunately, while it was entertaining and laughable for a minute like an old-school comedy sketch 😉, there was a family from somewhere else in America (I say that because the parents were discussing retiring to California or other locations with their very loud young adult son), who came in after me and who you could hear all over the restaurant that didn't know an Entrée was a starter in France (as the word says) and said that an entrée is a main in the US but the two men ordered Entrées alone, anyway. When they first sat down, the woman pulled out her phone and rested it against a glass on the table, pointed at herself and adjusted her face, hair and scarf, meanwhile had put her brand new (I say that because her husband commented that a tag was still on it) Dior handbag on top of the table on the tablecloth and taking off her newly purchased jacket while seated so the inside neck was hanging out over the back of the chair so that you could see the brand new store tag hanging off of it and commented about it still having the tag on it. She proceeded to tell the waiter of this exquisite restaurant that she didn't like an ingredient in the sauce in the main that she wanted to order and had the chef give her a sauce from another dish instead etc. Meanwhile, the son is dominating the room with his discussion about what happens when a friend of his gets drunk. All of that's why I said, laughable for a minute… classic comedy sketch. Very embarrassing for the rest of us Americans and I felt bad for the server who was very gracious and attentive to them, despite it all. I do wish when people come abroad, that they would at least look things up on their phones and use the translate app before they decide on a restaurant and order. This little story is to illustrate the exceptional service at L'Oriel.
Stephanie Ma★★★★★
10/10 would highly recommend. The chef and the staff were incredibly nice and understanding. My friends and I only had an hour left before we had to drive back to Montpellier to catch our flight, and the staff were so accommodating. A friend of the chef who spoke English helped us through our experience, and we all managed to get in two courses within the hour. The food is immaculate. One of the best steaks I have ever had, and the clementine dessert was so light and refreshing. Amazing!
Billycrk Wyo★★★★★
We dined at L'Oriel on a Saturday evening in mid-May. Surprisingly the restaurant never filled, which is a shame since we had one of our best meals of our three week France vacation. Both plats were excellent as were the entrees. Service was discreet. This is a wonderful restaurant in the old city in Arles.
Melina Wyss★★★★★
Absolutely lovely experience! We adored the fresh, creatively arranged, and high-quality food. The limited selection of dishes was actually appreciated. The prices were fair. The open wines could be a bit more impressive to perfectly match the food, but overall, it was a fabulous dinner experience. We can only recommend it!

So glad we opted to sit inside (to avoid the smokers) or we would never have got to see the old manger, the drinking troughs and the open charcoal fire where they cooked the steaks for this restaurant. Our waitress was the sweetest you could wish for. She admitted she didn't speak a lot of English (her son was a pilot and her daughter a Dr so they spoke good English she said) and my French is a smattering at best but we made it work. Smiles and hugs go a long way. The food was great. Personally I would have said both our starters could have been sharing plates. My husband must have had a full quarter pound of terrine plus dried sausage for his and I had 3 large slices of aubergine but it was the atmosphere of this restaurant and our waitress that would bring me back again. Thank you so much for such a memorable evening.

My boyfriend brought me here since he’s a local, and I trusted his recommendation. The place was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is so cozy and perfect for a date night. The food was incredible, and the portions were huge—I was so full by the end! The ravioli starter was fantastic, the steak was cooked to perfection, and the tiramisu for dessert was simply gorgeous. I loved everything about this place and can’t recommend it enough!

We ordered the €38 combo meal and were impressed by the generous portions and delicious flavors. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and we had no issues with language at all. Highly recommended!

We were a large group of crazy American tourists! The food was beyond incredible. Strawberries were the best I've ever had. Chicken was so tender. Lentil soup was delicious. Prawns were very flavorful. The first server was a bit unsure of things we wanted and I think was getting a little frustrated. Which I can understand because we were hungry and thirsty and ordered a lot! We sat outside and it was a beautiful day.
Dominic Carpin★★★★★
This may be my favourite restaurant in Arles. Everything about it is exceptional. I love the decor. Started off with a glass of Champagne. Had a rosé with my first course, a ravioli with black truffles. Then came the second course a magnificent grilled veal chop with a morel mushroom cream sauce. Superb! Add a glass of red Minervois with that. Then the grand finale, a generous serving of fresh strawberries with whipped cream. Go here you won't be sorry. Everything is amazing.

Very nice food, and very nice place to be with the family, quite expensive but the quality of the food is very food. Fish and chips, kids menu and meat for the lady everythomg was very nice and portions were accordingly Toilets are very clean, they dont have a baby changing platform but the toilets are big enough to do it on the floor, they need more light though Reason of the 3 stars in service is when asking something to a waiter they took lots of time and the restaurant wasnt completly full

We were greeted by very friendly staff and accommodated without a reservation on a busy night. Food was mediocre at best with the entrecôte sinewy and tough, rest of the dishes were not much better. Service from all being the high light of the evening.

We are on a long stay in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a town of legendary charm and dozens of outstanding restaurants. So why did we go to La Maison du Bœuf three times in our first week, given that we are hardly beef connoisseurs We initially went for a glass of wine in the afternoon. Our server, Artur, treated our consideration of their wine list as a matter of inquiry and discovery. Along with the wine, he presented us with bread and olives. We came back two days later, just to be treated as richly as before. I had a beef cheek that had cooked for 4 hours, so tender that it practically cut itself. My wife had a ribeye steak. The sides were exquisite too. Again, we had cheerful, utterly attentive service. We went one more time before the holiday closures. Again, a perfect dinner with perfect presentation. We tried almost all the side dishes, each a delight. And we were treated with warm friendliness and attention from the staff and the manager. It's the experience of dining as well as the food you eat that makes a restaurant great. We give La Maison du Bœuf our highest recommendation. They are the artisans of beef.
Nicolle García★★★★★
QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE! First off the food and service should be rated as michelin star restaurant. The service provided by Joann, Arthur and Nathan is top quality. We ate at this restaurant after passing it on the way to the Colosseum. It was absolutely fantastic - I highly recommend the carbonara pinsa!! Simply delicious and the best carbonara I’ve ever had. Service was very friendly, food came relatively quickly, and we felt very welcome. You should definitely come to this restaurant if you’re ever in Arles! 🤩

We loved our experience at Colosseo. The server was kind and attentive. And we loved the food — so fresh and generous portions of pizza. And being right next to the amphitheater, the outdoor patio provides an excellent view!

After a couple of wrong turns, we ended up, almost accidentally at this restaurant. What a wonderful mistake! The amazing location is second best when it comes to the food and service. Our pizzas were truly some of the best we have eaten. A fantastic mix of crispy and doughy. All to do with their special flour blend apparently. The carbonara pinsa sounds like a terrible idea, but was DELICIOUS! The staff could not have been more helpful. If in Arles and you’re a fan of pizza, go here. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

This is the best restaurant in Camargue. Second to none. But you must go on Sunday for lunch when there is live music. Food is simple, nothing refined here and you must not be vegan. And it is simply excellent. Staff is very friendly and it just feels like you are eating at home with friends. And the atmosphere with gypsy music is simply incredible. Do not miss going for lunch there if you are in Camargue. And like anywhere in Camargue, make sure to bring mosquitoes protection as this is always an issue.

Have been here twice before. A very charming tourist trap, making it easy to betray yourself. Today third visit, Saturday at 13.15. Monsieur Bob, unwilling to work, in my opinion slightly drunken, and standing at the outside grill, told us they are fully booked (70% of tables free and not set). Better avoided - food was never a reason to come

Very creative menu! We had to suggestions of veal tartare and the Provençal plate of poached fish and vegetables. The best dish we had was the baby clams in cream sauce. The waitress was very sweet and had a great sense of humor. When we were there the restaurant had a large party and lots of tables full but the food came out quickly. It was a pleasure- thank you so much for a great dinner in Arles

The risotto and burger were superb, but it was the beef lasagna and profiteroles that truly blew us away. The menu translation to English was made easy by the friendly staff, contributing to a pleasant dining experience. In a city where mid-range options can be scarce, L'O à la Bouche stands out for its good quality and reasonable prices. My risotto with big, juicy shrimps was particularly noteworthy. Overall, a highly recommended dining spot in Arles!

Amazing. We asked owner recommendations for food and drinks. There was not the slightest mistake. We enjoyed the fantastic cote de cochon, nougat glacemaisoncoulis de fruits rouges, red wine Coin Cache and local digestive drink from melon. Thank you Aurelie!

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Steakhouse in Arles

To ensure you have the best possible dining experience in this historic city, it helps to understand a few nuances about the local food culture. While the restaurants listed above are all excellent choices, your personal satisfaction will depend on matching the venue to your specific mood and expectations. The following advice will help you navigate the menus and local customs like a seasoned gastronome.

Understand the Local Meat: When dining in Arles, you will likely encounter "Taureau de Camargue" (Camargue bull) on the menu. This meat is AOC certified, much leaner than traditional beef, and possesses a distinct, gamey flavor. It is often cooked rare or served as a slow-cooked daube. If you prefer the fatty marbling of a traditional Angus or Charolais steak, ensure the menu specifies the breed before you order.

Specify Your Cooking Temperature: The French definition of "doneness" can differ significantly from American or British standards. If you order "bleu," it will be essentially raw in the center. "Saignant" (rare) is often what many foreigners would consider blue. If you prefer a medium-rare steak with a warm red center, you should ask for "à point" to avoid receiving a cut that is cooler or rarer than you expected.

Check for Wood-Fire Grilling: The flavor profile of a steak changes dramatically depending on the heat source. Many of the best establishments in the region cook over open flames using vine clippings or wood, which imparts a smoky aroma that pairs beautifully with the local herbs. If the menu mentions "grillé au feu de bois," you are in for a treat.

Reservations are Essential: Arles is a compact city, and the best dining rooms fill up quickly, especially during the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival in the summer or during the Feria. Do not assume you can walk in on a Friday or Saturday night. Calling ahead, even just a few hours before dinner, is highly recommended to secure a table at the top addresses.

Pair with Local Wines: A steakhouse experience in Arles is incomplete without a bottle from the surrounding terroir. While Bordeaux is the classic pairing for beef, the local reds from the Alpilles (Les Baux-de-Provence AOC) or the Costières de Nîmes offer a spicy, herbaceous quality that cuts through the richness of the meat beautifully. Ask the sommelier for a robust local red to complement your cut.

Exploring the steakhouse scene in Arles is a journey into the heart of Provençal gastronomy. It proves that the region is not just about olive oil and vegetables, but also about a profound respect for butchery and fire. Whether you opt for a rustic daube of local bull or a prime cut of French beef, you are participating in a culinary tradition that dates back centuries.

Take your time, enjoy the unhurried pace of the service, and savor the atmosphere of this ancient city. A great meal here is more than just sustenance; it is an integral part of understanding the culture and the passion of the people who call the Camargue home. Bon appétit.
