12 Best Japanese Restaurants in Reims

Reims may be globally celebrated as the unofficial capital of Champagne, but the city’s culinary identity extends far beyond its famous sparkling cellars. Over the last decade, a quiet gastronomic revolution has transformed the dining scene, bringing authentic Asian flavors to this historic corner of northeastern France.

For locals and travelers alike, Japanese cuisine has become a particular favorite, offering a refined counterpoint to the region’s rich, butter-heavy traditional dishes. Whether you are craving delicate nigiri, warming bowls of ramen, or perfectly crisp tempura, the “Cité des Sacres” has a surprisingly diverse range of options.

Navigating the choices, however, can be tricky when you are looking for authenticity rather than generic fast-food sushi. From intimate omakase counters to family-run ramen shops, the best establishments prioritize fresh fish, perfectly seasoned rice, and genuine hospitality.

This guide highlights the top destinations where quality ingredients and skilled technique stand out. We have evaluated these restaurants based on menu authenticity, consistency of execution, and the overall dining experience.

Whether you are a student on a budget, a visiting oenophile, or a local looking for a new favorite spot, there is a Japanese table in Reims waiting for you. Here are the standouts that define the city’s Japanese food scene right now.

Consistently sharp and refreshing — a real find for a city like Reims. This place leans much closer to authentic Japanese cuisine than the many restaurants that merely claim to be "fusion." The staff show genuine, in-depth knowledge of their extensive sake list, and every dish is precisely executed. Given the quality and the generosity of the portions, it's remarkably good value — not expensive at all in my opinion.
Niels Blonk★★★★★
Amazing food and sake. Very surprising dishes to share. The good looks good and tastes as good as it looks. Fun to try a couple different Sake’s. Let the owner sursprise you!
Sanne Breimer★★★★★
The food was surprising and delicious, and even though I’m not a champagne or sake drinker, I really liked the recommendation by the staff. It was fully packed when I was there. You can go with friends, or bring a book, like I did. It’s an intimate, relaxed space.

What a delightful evening spent at this family ran restaurant. Food is excellent, we had fried Squid, chicken on skewers and a mix of sashimi all well prepared and tasty. Love the decoration and the layout. We had our dog with us and the staff are very sweet with her. Definitely come back when we stop by next time.

Not a lot of Japanese restaurants in France manage to serve a truly authentic experience! Genuinely impressed and the quality is well worth its price. Make sure to book in as it may get crowded during dinner time. Will definitely be back again! 💖

Shin’zen was a surprising discovery. Sushi and sashimi were very fresh and portions were plentiful. The real gem here is their delicious yakitori (stuff on skewers). When you enter the restaurant, you can smell the alluring meats of the grill. Some of their meals come in combinations and include a dessert and coffee/tea. Wonderful restaurant.

GENKI is an absolute gem! This cute little Asian restaurant is always full—and for good reason. The ramen noodles are truly the star of the place: perfectly cooked, full of texture, and incredibly satisfying. The curry is also delicious and packed with flavor. We ordered the menu and loved everything—especially the miso soup, the gyozas, and the small salad, which were all fresh and well prepared. Overall, the food quality is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Big kudos to the staff as well! Every time I’ve been here, they’ve been super friendly and welcoming. They all speak English, and some even speak Spanish, which is a nice bonus. I also love sitting at the bar and watching the cooking process—it really adds to the experience. I’ll definitely keep coming back!

A really nice surprise to eat ramen in Reims, totally worth it. The staff is really nice and they are fast! The beef ramen was so tender and juicy. We ordered a lunch menu that included miso soup and gyozas 🥟. The miso soup was a hug to my stomach and heart. Thank you Genki cooks.
Marta Antunes (Windi)★★★★★
So good we had both lunch and dinner here on the same day! We loved our lunch, both the ramen and katsu curry were fantastic so we came back for dinner to try more dishes. Great portion size, fantastic flavour, good prices too. If we ever find ourselves in Reims again, Genki will be on our list again!

If i can give Genki Bento 6 stars, I would! 😊💖 In a week I think I've ordered from them 3 times in a row after experiencing my first bite of their bentos! 💖 I was waiting to try their other offerings before I wrote my review and I was definitely not disappointed. As someone who's stayed in Japan many times, I can definitely say that the authentic flavors are there! I was served a hefty hearty meal that reminded me of the bentos I enjoyed while on a Shinkansen to Tokyo. It's a nice touch to see them prepare the Bentos themselves and everything is made in house. I especially love the tenderness of the Chicken Teriyaki! It's juicy and marinated perfectly, it was such a treat! 💖 The sides are also great and there's a wide variety to choose from! 💖 I definitely see myself being a repeat customer for Genki Bento and I highly recommend you try it too! 💖

The best ramen i've eaten in my life! I've been searching for a place like this for all of my 7 years in France. I usually eat a lot, and here im full after a 25 euro meal. Most people would probably be full for less money (some of the most important prices on the photos). I go there at least a couple of times each month and recommended it to all my friends 🙂

The staff were very warm and welcoming. The service was perfect: friendly, fast, and very professional. Great diversity on the menu with something for everyone. The atmosphere was calm, clean, and really enjoyable. Definitely a place I’d recommend for Japanese food and will definitely come back !!
Rian Gonzales★★★★☆
I didn't realize that the restaurant was under a new management. I wrote a review before for Yoshi Ramen and found out that it's now Raku Ramen. I have to admit, the food was a bit better than the previous restaurant. There is more attempt on getting more authentic flavors. My Tori Katsu was miles better than what was offered before however the Katsudon was a bit of a let down. I'm not sure what type of meat was used for it but it was a darker color than usual and a bit chewy. The umami flavors of the dashi were there though so I can give some credit for that. As an artist myself, it was also a bit of a letdown to see AI posters on the walls of the establishment. It cheapens the vibe a bit and I would have much preferred any other poster of some kind but that is just my personal taste and it wouldn't be unfair for me to judge my rating on these. All the stars are mostly for the servers. They were definitely the stars of the service and they were very accommodating to any of our requests. I'm very happy with the service! Maybe it's a mistake of mine for not trying Ramen on a warm sunny day but if I ever give the restaurant another shot I'd say maybe stick to ramen and not the donburis.
Thu Hoai Nguyen★★★★☆
I have eaten here nearly 3 years ago but with the old name of Yoshi. The food now is better, less of salt.
Tim Wong★★★☆☆
Great atmosphere and comfortable food. Variety is not bad. Not that authentic but that's to be expected. My tempura ramen was ok, the eggs were a bit overcooked, the soup was ok but I expected it to be hotter and more in terms of volume. I think the prawn katsu should come in separate plate as it became soggy in the soup (btw it is katsu not tempura which is just flour batter with no breadcrumbs). The noodle was cooked just right so that's good. We also had the omurice which was nice but could do with a little bit more veg, the curry sauce also lacked a bit flavour. Overall would have been a 4star without the minor execution issues.

Small sushi bar near the hotel I was staying in. I had the Midi Soba legumes (noodles with vegetables) and the Signature Salmon Braise rolls that also had a slice of tempura shrimp in the middle to add a lovely crunch. Both delicious. Small family concern and the service was great as I mumbled through English and clarified via Google translate. All round brilliant for a short meal and good value price wise.

Very disappointing experience, especially for €30 per person. We were three vegans and had specifically asked beforehand about vegan options, but there was very little choice. The sushi was tiny and had almost no filling, and we ended up eating the same few dishes repeatedly because there was nothing else available. We were also limited to only three orders, and dessert wasn’t included. The drinks were overpriced too: €7.50 for what was basically lemonade with lemon and violet syrup. We paid around €110 for three people and left feeling that it was absolutely not worth the price. Definitely not the all-you-can-eat experience we expected.

Amazing service! The chefs were very welcoming, served us with a smile, and were very generous. The sushi was simple and tasted fresh. Would definitely recommend this place. Also the prices are very low for the quality being served. They have good value menus, for individuals or for sharing. They gave us free soup for each person and a small free sesame salad. I wouldn't recommend the desserts, though, but everything else on the menu is worth it. Try the crispy sushi made with fried onion on top. It's their speciality of which they are so proud. You should give this place a try if you are in Reims.

Amazing & very delicious japanese restaurant! 🍣 We went for a dinner date, it was very nice because there were not so many people in the restaurant so the food came fast and the server was super nice! The food was DELICIOUS! 🤤 I think we ordered the Bateau M3, it's very good for the price because with the sushi boat menu you automatically get a portion of rice, a miso soup and a little salad! Plus, as an entry we tried the Takoyaki, it is sooo worth it! 😍 And they also gave us some rice chips as an entry, they were very good too! We tried the Yokan, it was a nice discovery! But we wish they had more dessert options (traditional mochis and so...) In all, I recommend it 100% 🍣😍 I'll definitely come back again! (And just to say that I'm very picky with sushi restaurants because I'm sensible and tend to get stomach-sick fast if not well prepared, but here it was not at all the case ! 🍣) Thank you so much! 🌟
Dasha P.★★★★☆
Its nice and quiet place. Service is good. I didn't like anything from the dishes, but probably it was just not my kind of food.
Greg Cabaj★★★★☆
Sushido was decent by all means. The fish was fresh and the staff was very helpful, polite and speaking fluent English. I could not give five stars because I see some missed potential in the restaurant: 1. We ordered the big boat - in the menu picture it is quite full and rich, while in reality there were many empty places. The fish slices were rather small'ish. I'd suggest increasing the boat price and serving it reach as it is your top-demo dish. 2. Along with the boat there were hot skewers. The thing is that if you eat (cold) sushi first, the hot skewers will get cold in the meantime. Also when you order the top dish, the skewers should be the top quality (ie. Scallops instead of two times chicken [with bones] and minced pork) 3. Atmosphere - there were speakers in the ceiling, but no music, so we could hear each conversation. (But not necessarily understand it in French 🙂 ) We will definitely come back again when we are around and see if you reconsider some menu options. Overall we found in Sushido good sushi for good value.
Matthias Roshardt★★☆☆☆
Service was very slow, forgot orders. - Edamame: either overcooked or from the freezer - Gyoza were okay, but super heavy on frying oil, thick crust - Sushi: Do not put cream cheese in rolls - Cooked marinated salmon and thuna were very small for the price and tasted bland - Dessert tasted like it had been out for a while

How to Choose the Right Japanese Restaurant in Reims

To truly enjoy the Japanese food scene in Reims, it helps to look beyond the glossy menu photos and standard "all-you-can-eat" formulas. The difference between a mediocre meal and an unforgettable one often comes down to a few key details. Here are the most important factors to consider before you book a table or order takeaway.

Look for restaurants that specialize rather than generalize. The best Japanese restaurants usually focus on one core discipline—such as sushi, ramen, or tempura—instead of trying to master every category. A menu that is overwhelmingly long often signals frozen ingredients or pre-made sauces. Choose a place known for a specific signature dish, whether that is a rich tonkotsu broth or hand-pressed nigiri.

Check the rice quality before anything else. In Japanese cuisine, sushi rice (shari) is the soul of the dish. It should be lightly seasoned with rice vinegar, served at room temperature, and hold its shape without being dense or gummy. If the rice is cold, dry, or falling apart, the rest of the meal will likely disappoint regardless of how fresh the fish is.

Pay attention to the sourcing of fish. Reims is landlocked, so freshness depends entirely on supply chain speed and careful selection. Trustworthy restaurants are transparent about delivery days and often feature seasonal fish or daily specials. If a menu lists the same generic salmon and tuna options without variation, it may be playing it safe rather than serving premium product.

Observe the atmosphere and service style. Authentic Japanese hospitality, or omotenashi, values quiet attentiveness over flashy presentation. A calm, clean dining room with a visible sushi counter is usually a good sign. Chefs who greet guests and explain their ingredients demonstrate a level of pride that translates directly to the plate.

Be cautious with all-you-can-eat formulas. While budget-friendly, unlimited sushi menus often rely on heavy rice ratios, creamy sauces, and lower-grade fish to control costs. If you are seeking an authentic experience, opt for à la carte dining or set menus (teishoku) that reflect the chef’s actual skill and the season’s best ingredients.

Exploring Japanese restaurants in Reims offers a delightful break from the traditional brasseries and champagne bars that dominate the city center. Each of the establishments highlighted above brings its own personality, from minimalist sushi bars to cozy noodle houses tucked away on quiet side streets.

The next time you find yourself wandering near the Cathedral or finishing a long day of cellar tours, consider swapping the classic jambon-beurre for a carefully crafted maki roll or a steaming bowl of udon. You might just discover that Reims has become one of the most exciting cities in the Grand Est for Japanese gastronomy.
