Dijon is a city that engages every sense long before you sit down at the table. The glossy, glazed rooftops of the Burgundian palaces catch the light, while the faint aroma of baking gingerbread drifts from centuries-old patisseries. As the historic capital of the Dukes of Burgundy, this city was once a center of European power and wealth, and that legacy is most deliciously preserved in its culinary culture.
While the name Dijon is synonymous worldwide with sharp, smooth mustard, the local gastronomy extends far beyond the condiment aisle. This is the birthplace of Boeuf Bourguignon, the spiritual home of Escargot, and a region where the wine list reads like a geography lesson in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The surrounding Côte d’Or vineyards provide the perfect pairing for the rich, earthy flavors that define the region.
The dining scene here is a fascinating blend of old-world grandeur and modern innovation. You can spend an evening in a timber-framed bistro that has served rustic stews for generations, or step into a minimalist space where young chefs are deconstructing Burgundian classics with contemporary flair. From the bustling Les Halles market to the quiet cobblestone squares, the city is a playground for food lovers.
For the traveler, navigating the choices can be overwhelming. Do you prioritize the traditional charm of a "marché" menu, or the precision of a Michelin-starred tasting experience? The answer often lies in your mood and your appetite, but the standard of quality across the city is remarkably high, ensuring that even a casual lunch can be a memorable event.
To help you make the most of your visit, we have curated a guide that spans the spectrum of Dijon’s dining scene. We have focused on venues that offer not just great food, but also a distinct sense of place, highlighting the authenticity and hospitality that make this city so special. Whether you are seeking a romantic dinner or a quick bite between museum visits, this list has you covered.
Below, you will find the essential tables to book in the capital of Burgundy.

This is the first restaurant in the Bourgogne area to demand a credit card number to confirm the reservation. We were about 10 minutes late when we arrived. We did try to call but by the time our phone got pickup, we were almost there. The service was actually a bit cold. It seemed that the staff was in a hurry. My starter beetroot was good but not outstanding. My sister had beef as main dish and she told me it was also just all right. We had quite a high expectation for this place due to the good ratings. My main dish fish of the day and the dessert were better. But compared to other restaurants we tried in Dijon, the overall experience is subpar.
ReviewGuy★★★☆☆
Unfortunately found the food pretty mediocre. Maybe it was an off night. Price was very reasonable, but service was only ok at best. Too many good restaurants here to recommend this one despite the good reviews.
R H★★★☆☆
The service was poor - unfriendly. Half of the seating is in a windowless basement (it's cold, bring a jacket). There are plenty Bib Gourmand and great price/value Michelin spots in Dijon.
If you book in advance - this one will likely fall short of your expectations. If you happen to stumble across it when walking by - you'll probably enjoy the great value the food offers (without expectations, you might be more forgiving of the unfriendly service and poor ambience).
But if you are booking in advance - I recommend picking one of the many other great restaurants Dijon has to offer.

Amazing dinner experience at affordable price. Staff is very nice and welcoming, highly professional and always paying attention (despite just 2 people welcoming and serving). We had seating downstairs and despite big group next to us, was pleasant atmosphere. Food was excellent (had fish options for both starter and main course) and there was good wine selection. Highly recommend to visit!

Wow! What a wonderful restaurant! First, truly excellent food, creative enough to be interesting but always in the interest of making great food, not impressing you with oddity. The entree, a rabbit salad (think chicken salad, but with rabbit), slices of artichoke, pickled radishes and onions, was a wonderful marriage of different flavors and textures. The “filet” of duck—a perfectly cooked duck breast—was tender, flavorful and nicely set off with a few florets of cauliflower and the tenderest leeks I’ve ever had. The cheese course highlighted nicely affineed cheeses, mostly local, I believe. The service was by one of the owners, warm, efficient, just the right amount of presence. The atmosphere is very nice, but simple—no stuffiness at all. Wine list short enough to deal with but with more than enough options. This may be the perfect restaurant. You definitely need reservations, and if you make them online, watch out for an email that arrives a while later asking for a credit card to hold the reservation.

L'un des sens in Dijon proved to be a delightful culinary experience.
Opting for the 5-course tasting menu, we embarked on a journey of flavors that surprised and delighted.
From the moment we were greeted by the friendly and attentive waiter, the service was impeccable. He thoughtfully inquired about any dietary restrictions, ensuring a personalized experience.
Each dish was a masterpiece, not just in taste but also in presentation.
The chef, visible in the open kitchen, clearly poured passion into every creation. Subtle and unique flavor combinations danced on the palate, leaving a lasting impression.
The progression of the meal was well-paced, with a delicate balance of starters, two main courses showcasing both fish and meat, a refined cheese selection, and a surprising dessert.
The ambiance was intimate and cozy, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.
While the price point of around 80€ per person (including wine) may seem steep, the quality of the food and the overall experience justify the cost.
Highly recommended!
Note: As the menu changes regularly, the specific dishes experienced will vary. However, the consistent focus on quality and innovation is guaranteed.

We were in France the past two weeks, sampling many nice dishes from different restaurants every day. The L’un des sens offered by far the best of all we have eaten at. Their dishes are well planned and executed, with different ingredients complement each other with a delicate touch. The service was close to perfection, very attentive and never intrusive. We enjoyed the entire experience and would look forward to our next return!

Just perfect! Food was incredible - taste, presentation, everything. All in all a great experience. Tried other Michelin star restaurants while in Dijon, and although L’un des sens was more expensive, it was far better than the others I tried. Recommend 💯 .

Wonderful experience, great food, atmosphere and service.
Interesting tasting menu where the courses are a supprise.
One of us needed gluten free, due to allergy, and this was catered for with a few minor substitutions.

The cuisine was to die for using local ingredients and service impeccable. Was wonderful to be seated near kitchen area to see chefs in action. Can't recommend this place highly enough. To cap it all, portions were substantial & extraordinary good value. Wonderful evening out, merci beaucoup! Some tantalising starters shown.

I love L’Abenfant. Behind the unassuming exterior and decor are a team of consummate hosts and confident chefs. The welcome and service was warm and friendly and the pacing of the meal was perfect. I chose the poultry pate croute to start, the pork with beetroot and blackcurrant for the main course and the fig, tarragon and honey to finish. The pork dish was the highlight of the meal - the pairing of the sweet pork and earthy beetroot made for a well-balanced dish. The dessert was also delicious, and showcased the quality and flavour of the fresh fruit, which was accompanied by delicately sweetened cream and a buttery biscuit tart base. The only thing that would have made the meal even better is if the pork was a touch less ‘done’. I would most certainly return to L’Abenfant when next in Dijon. Thank you for such a thoroughly enjoyable meal.

Best dessert I had this year. The combo of lemon and chili is amazing and so unpredicted. Every single course was very well thought out and has complex layers of flavor. Very creative and original ways of using authentic traditional local French ingredients. The price performance is excellent!

Actually this is definitely adessert shop whose talent was wasted on French cuisine 😅
The starter might get you feel good, and those breads or butter are also delightful.
However as they serve you with more dishes, you start to feel like these cuisines just having beautiful appearances, but it’s stale and unbalanced inside.
Especially the duck breast has so tons of fascia, which is totally unacceptable. You have to spit out those meats all the time, and the more you chew, the dryer of the meat you feel. It’s super stale duck breast without any proper marination before.
They don’t even care when you left so many things left without eating. That’s a totally land mine in French cuisine field.
Those sauce is over punched with too much sugar. Those leaves or flowers on the top don’t enhance the flavor at all, but only disturbing.
Thus, most of the dishes are a bit bitter, too salty or too stale.
It was disappointing at first and also in the middle. Nevertheless, the highlight of this restaurant just comes in the end when the chocolate cake with chocolate sorbet is served.
It’s one of the best chocolate dessert in my life.
Everything from texture, taste to sweetness is like waltz dance, which means super balanced and wonderful! 👍
It’s not over-sweet so the authentic chocolate flavor would stand out. The creamy is so chewy and the temperate of the sorbet is elaborately balanced with all of the ingredients here.
I have tried hundreds of Michelin restaurants in my life, and their dessert definitely nailed it!
However it’s not a restaurant you can eat for dessert only, it’s really pitiful
I wish your restaurant would transform into chocolate desserts shop one day, and I’ll absolutely go everyday !
Thank you for this unforgettable dessert.

The best restaurant we had during our one week trip in Bourgogne region. We had lunch here and since everything was perfect we decided to come back the next evening. Top service and fantastic food. Also very dog friendly. Reservation is recommend.

Absolutely awesome restaurant. Lovely and fresh food, and the menu had great options for all eaters. I started with the half-cooked halibut, which was absolutely incredible. Excellent flavor; probably the best halibut I’ve ever had. Second, I had the duck breast. It was perfectly medium, and the sauce and sweet potato confit was delicious. If I’m ever back in Dijon, I will definitely be visiting again. Servers were also very friendly and spoke English well (although I certainly don’t expect that).

One of the loveliest dining experiences - the chef is an artist and a master of the cuisine. Front of the house are knowledgeable, kind, and professional.
Our first visit to Dijon!
They are a small local bistro with set menu options. We selected 3 courses plus optional local cheese plate.
Rory S-J★★★★★
Amazing restaurant with lovely waiters and a very nice atmosphere. You can really feel the care that has gone into the menu, cooking and service.
We opted for the set menu of three courses, very reasonably priced at €54. However they also brought around some very tasty amuse bouches to start as well as some sweet treats to finish - not to mention the very good bread they kept us supplied with throughout the meal.
Each course was delicious, with carefully selected and interesting ingredients that really popped on their own whilst complimenting the dish as a whole.
Would wholeheartedly recommend!

We had great lunch experience in this charming restaurant. It is one man band show - chef is also serving you. In this regard even more impressive as dishes are creative, tasty, visually appealing. Chef is very nice, explains everything and is very generous in wine pouring 😊. Value for the money - great.

Top notch dining experience. Jeremy, who is both the chef and server, ensured we understood the options thoroughly, had wonderful wine pairing recommendations, and delivered on deliciously unique and beautifully plated cuisine that exceeded our expectations. Delightfully engaging and knowledgeable, we were well taken care of while he also tended to his other groups (one of which was a birthday celebration that he delivered a pastry with a massive sparkler atop).

It was raining like cats and dogs and the waiter has refused to give us a sit pointing out that they do not speak English and push us to the door. Not friendly, not welcome.

We were excited to try this restaurant when we stumbled upon it while planning our vacation. The photos that people have posted show how much attention they pay to display, but their beauty pales in comparison to their taste. Between the three of us we tried almost everything on the April 2025 menu. From the delicate and creamy egg and asparagus tart amuse-bouche all the way to chocolate egg mousse at the end, the flavours were delicate and balanced, paring beautifully between each of the three dishes presented. As someone who does not know much about wine, the option to include drink pairings was a blessing that really enhanced the experience for me. The escargot with black garlic oil was a standout - I don’t think I have tasted anything so wonderful before. The ravioli with mustard sauce was my wife’s favourite. The lone waiter did an amazing job looking after all the patrons and made us (who do not speak French very well) feel extremely welcomed. If you are in or near Dijon, I cannot recommend Trilogie et Saveurs highly enough. Merci Beaucoup!

The chef is the server and he is a delight. Full of great wine recommendations and heavy pours. The food was fun, each course delicious. We especially loved the dessert of ice cream and meringue (vacherin).

Few restaurants are open Sunday in Dijon so we were a bit uncertain about a hotel restaurant. It was wonderful!
The atmosphere was warm welcoming and comfortable with a great vibe that is certainly cheeky. Service was attentive despite being quite busy suddenly. The duck confit croquettes needed a little salt but otherwise were crisp and creamy in all the right ways. The steak tartare was cut perfectly and was well balanced while the luxurious (dare I say over the top) pasta with ham cheese and poached egg left us stuffed. What better way to finish then an espresso and a surprise Ace.
Nicely done.

It was Christmas Eve. The restaurant was super busy. You can tell some staffs were part-timers, but doing their best. We ordered too much and were too full, otherwise the foods would be magnificent.

The meat platter was actually quite delicious and filling. We contemplated ordering more food after that. We also ordered the duck and steak. The steak was a tiny bit burnt but really really good. The restaurant has a very classic fun vibe to it. I’d probably dine here again!

We have been here for dinner. We made a reservation in advance and were placed in far last corner of the room. It felt like being punished ..
The service is terribly slow, we had to cancel the last order, because they did not manage to bring it in time.
The food itself was ..well, ok. It was nothing special to be remembered and it wasn’t so bad that you couldn’t eat it.
For a town which is known for good food and wine, this was a complete desaster..I‘m sorry guys, but that’s my honest opinion..

Food was so good
The services was just ok
The location was convenient
The sofa where we sat was uncomfortable 😣
We had lowerback pain after dinner.

Amazing place, if we ever back around I would definitely come back. Made a last minute booking at the Michelin 1-star, and was glad to discover there are no shortage of fine dining experiences outside of Paris. I chose this one for its dark lighting and modern decor, and was delighted to have a seat at the kitchen counter to watch the chefs and staff plate the dishes, apply the finishing touches, and choreograph the presentation through the different courses.
The chefs utilize a variety of seasonal local ingredients to heighten the classic French dishes with a carefully curated wine pairing, to balance and complement the rich and bold flavors. A nice tour of the regional perspective on French gastronomy. Don’t underestimate how good the bread and lemon butter and the beet root wine because it makes you want more. Thank you for the enjoyable culinary experience showcasing the specialities of the Bourgogne area.

Clearly one of the best gastronomic experiences I've ever had (if not THE best!) Every plate was pure art, in its aspect such as in its taste. The diner I had there felt like a really tasty dream, and I actually have NOTHING to complain about (Despite the fact that I kinda like to complain). Every dish was so tasty, balanced, surprising, harmonious, with all its little perfect details... I will never forget this night, and I hope I'll travel back to Dijon soon. A huge thanks and many congratulations to the whole crew ! You are doing such an awesome work !

Beautiful play of color, flavor, texture and joy. Every bite left me wanting more, plus the sommelier matched wines perfectly and to my tastes. He is surely headed to two stars soon, A+ all around in my book! Will return asap!

CIBO has a beautiful, modern vibe — minimalist with wood and concrete details that make the space feel both sleek and inviting. The menu is creative and rooted in the region, highlighting local ingredients like fresh cheese and catfish in unexpected, seasonal ways.
One of my favorite parts was the cheese cart. The staff member who presented it was genuinely kind; he walked me through all the cheese varieties and even repeated their names in English so I could write them down and look them up later. It felt personal and made the experience all the more memorable.
The downside for me was that many of the dishes leaned heavily into acidic flavors. I understand the menu is built around summer ingredients meant to be light and refreshing, but at times the acidity overpowered the balance of the dish. A bit more contrast or depth could’ve made a big difference.
Also, the wine pairing didn’t quite hit the mark. The wine itself was good, but it didn’t match most of the dishes—only really working well with two (grilled catfish and another meat dish). At €145, I was hoping for something that would enhance the meal a bit more. We’ve had more cohesive pairings elsewhere at a similar level.
That said, I’d definitely come back to try a different seasonal menu. There’s a lot of creativity and care here, and I’m curious to see how it evolves.

New comments after the owner’s reply:
I didn’t complain because you was not able to give me a table, the reason I complained was your attitude! The way you talk to me, the reason I have been trying to check whether I can sit outside, finish earlier or wait for if any cancellation will be made was all because it was my last night here and I was very hoping to eat in your place, and I was asking in a very nice and almost begging even, but what you did and how you replied was so impolite, arrogant and impatient. Look at other comments in google with lowest rating, all because of the same reason! You are not honest to yourself and couldn’t realise your problem and no idea at all about the appropriate way to manage a restaurant, sorry for you and good luck!
You even want to put rating for your customer, ridiculous it is. You really need a customer service training.
Original comment: I can’t say anything about the food as I wasn’t able to sit here. The owner is very arrogant and impolite, I was told no chance to have a table tonight as it was fully booked. But the way he said to me was very rude and make me feel embarrassing, I don’t understand it why he is treating customer like that. He was just saying I can’t take any more people, keep repeating it and then turn back to me and go away. Shocked! All Dijon people have been sooooo nice until I met him. Customer service is one of most important elements for hospitality and restaurant, and I won’t go back to here even if it’s 5 star rating!

The perfect place in Dijon to experience the local atmosphere and taste. In front of the old Justice Court, around the corner of Liberation Square, this absolute gem serve fresh local dishes for the ridiculous price of €31,- for a 3-course dinner. The waiter is very friendly and knowledgeable and even gave us amazing tips for local bars and go-to’s. We enjoyed it so much that we immediately made a reservation for the next day. Be aware that the restaurant only serves between 19h00 and 21h00 and was fully booked on the two days that we visited (Thursday and Friday), so I advise you to make an reservation to avoid any disappointment 🙂 Would absolutely recommend!

Cozy and nice restaurant, attentive and warm service. They have been lovely since from a prompt reply to our booking by email. We enjoyed almost the entire menu and it was delicious. We’ll sure come back.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. They serve excellent traditional food, especially the Flammekueche, which was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. The atmosphere was nice, quiet, and relaxing, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. The staff were very friendly and made an effort to speak English, which I really appreciated. Their kindness and hospitality made me feel welcome. Overall, the delicious food, peaceful atmosphere, and attentive service made this a restaurant I would happily recommend.

Excellent Flammekuchen which was a first for us. A light version of the Italian version.
It was hot as hell outside so when they opened up the big window screen, the indoor dining experience was not very pleasant. And the waiters were not very observant and didn't know the other had taken order and thought we had finished instead.

I really enjoyed my Goat'zilla—it was tasty and filling without being too heavy. The service was friendly. A good option for those looking for a satisfying meal that won't break the bank.

This was some of the best Flammkuchen and service I’ve ever had. Our waiter provided fantastic service despite that fact that we were dressed extremely leisurely, definitely not proper restaurant attire (we are just passing through on a road trip and were starving). The food came quickly, was delicious, and the wine which was very affordable was really tasty.
10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a delicious, fairly priced meal, in a cute setting and with amazing service

Six of us dined here on 5th September and were very impressed. The food was exemplary and showcased everything that french cuisine is renowned for especially concentrated flavours and sauces.
Being a Saturday night the restaurant was busy and the service was a little stretched but the staff were friendly and delightful. It was also very good value.
We were offered a table in the upstairs room which was intimate and quiet.
I'm happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Dijon.

We had a wonderful dining experience at La Fine Heure in Dijon. From the moment we arrived, the warm and authentic French hospitality stood out.
The escargot was outstanding — perfectly prepared, beautifully presented, and truly impeccable. The beef Bourguignon was the best I have ever tasted; the rich flavors, generous portion size, and elegant presentation made it a memorable highlight of the meal. The carefully balanced selection of local wines complemented the dishes perfectly, and both the waiters and the owner provided excellent recommendations that enhanced our dinner.
The service was classic French — attentive, professional, and unhurried. What truly made the evening special was when the owner personally approached our table. His guidance on the menu and genuine passion for the food turned the meal into a real highlight. Prices were very fair for the quality and experience we received.
Thank you to the entire team at La Fine Heure for delivering such a fantastic evening. We left feeling truly cared for and impressed. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Dijon and look forward to returning on our next trip.

What a gem of a restaurant! We sat outside by the window of their wine shop which definitely encouraged us to splash out of an excellent Beaune. The food was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Would definitely recommend.

We dined here two weeks ago. And I really wanted to love it. The place is charming, like old school French. And they have a wine shop right next door as part of the operation. But the service part of our dinner was not quite right. The servers were all youngsters, like 19-24. They were very nice, but for the first 20 - 30 minutes, they were literally running all over the restaurant. Very disturbing. and the service was pretty slow.It took forever to get our first glasses of wine, then longer to get the proprietor to help me with the wine list. The food was pretty good, but the service ruined the experience. I think 1-2 seasoned veteran servers would really help this restaurant shine ! Good Luck with this one ! Cheers !

Great service. I had baked aubergine for a starter, pork and mash main (needed a different sauce - not much flavour, maybe a tomato one) and macarpone dessert with peaches in sirop. They don't do cocktails but they have aperitifs. I had kir burgond- creme de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) with cremant (sparking wine). The dessert was nice. It's pretty expensive. It's a wine shop that does wine tasting and then has a restaurant attached to it, so of course there is a large selection of wine. Service was quick and friendly and they speak English (like everywhere here). It's nice that they offer tap water as well.

What a fantastic evening!
Jeff was an outstanding host and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We were truly spoiled throughout the entire evening with warm hospitality and genuine attention to detail.
The selection of freshly prepared dishes was excellent, everything was delicious and clearly made with great care. The wines were perfectly chosen and complemented the food beautifully.
What really made the experience special was the atmosphere. Jeff has a remarkable way of making his guests feel completely at home, turning a great meal into a memorable evening.
There was absolutely nothing to criticize, and considering the quality of the food, wine, and hospitality, the price was more than fair.
Highly recommended – we'll definitely be back!

Very classic French food, in a very classic French setting. Owner was very kind , friendly, attentive. Decent price.
Try a kir as an apperitif it's a burgundy specialty! Also the wine selection is a really good range of prices and quality.
THE chocolate mousse was very good.
All in all, would recommend!

We had a lovely meal here tonight. We speak next to no french...i try... but the charming server helped us along with our order. We had 3 courses each and a bottle of wine. All reasonably priced, all nicely presented and all full of flavour We originally sat inside but the empty tables outside soon started to fill and it looked perfect with a great atmosphere. We highly recommend.

The food, wine a service were all amazing. We had escargot and rillette for starters and beef bouginion and gratin du haut-doubs for mains.

This place is nothing short of phenomenal. The atmosphere is lovely and the food is out of this world. The hostess /waitress is a character - in a good way, a very warm and welcoming lady who does it all in the front of the house. Located in a quiet corner of Dijon - the place does have outdoor dining as well. The food is out of this world- the place was packed on a Tuesday night - that should tell you something. If you order the “ house wine” - they bring you a “ mystery wine” it is wrapped in a cloth and if you guess the wine - it’s free. Everyone around us was joining in the fun. The pricing is very very reasonable for the quality of the food. This place is a must go to if you are in Dijon. Based on what I saw, make a reservation.

The food is ok, lamb is pre-cooked and warmed up before serving but it seems to be the same with the accompanying vegetables. The scallops is good but the risotto is slightly undercooked. The taste is a bit flat especially the sauces that come with the meat, lack the richness and depth and mostly just salty to taste. The desserts are much better than the main courses. The wine blind tasting is real interesting and the wine I had was delicious. Overall ok restaurant but maybe slightly overrated.

Just outside the main centre, but an easy walk to this amazing restaurant.
There are courtyard tables for a warm evening.
Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious.
Lovely staff - very friendly and helpful.
Altogether, a TOP spot.

Absolutely delightful experience. One of the best meals we’ve ever had. The combinations of flavors, textures and colors are sublime. The staff and service are exceptional and the entire evening is wrapped in a wonderfully calm and serene environment. The chef brings the Japanese and French culinary traditions seamlessly.

We had a very enjoyable experience at Origine. The food and service was outstanding. I tried the 5 course lunch, and it was a gastronomic adventure. Thank you to the staff and chef for a memorable meal.
Highlights for me were the amuse components (especially the escargot), the trout wellington (wow!), the canard, and the fraise & framboise dessert. Everything was exceptional, but those dishes were 11/10. I will certainly return.

Most of the essences here are really awesome and fantastic.
Staffs are really warm and the environment has really relaxing design and elegant vibes.
Those starters are elaborately made, which makes you expect for the next dish.
However, the meat in the main course might be the worst thing here …
Among most of the Michelin-starred restaurants in France, fancy starters and beautiful desserts are common, but great meat is really rare.
Sadly, this chef doesn’t nail it.
The meat is not cooked well, so it’s really tasteless, stale and a bit sour. I think most of Michelin chefs I tried aren’t good at making those meat become gourmet, and this one also.
You should at least try by yourself first before serving guests. All of those sides are so great and wonderful, but the main character- meat is so so so disappointing.
When you chew more, the sadder you feel.
I feel so sorry for this animal sacrificing for nothing.
The dessert is their highlight, especially when they mixed saffron with honey to create unique umami for the topping on ice cream. The tart is not very well balanced because the grapefruit and its sauce are way too bitter. It’s a bit annoying and disturbing when you are savoring it. The dough of the tart is a bit stale but still mildly crunchy.
It’s overall great value for €49 euros.
Nevertheless they don’t really care about how bad you feel about the main cuisine, which is a bit pitiful.
Wishing they would improve one day, and that’s the moment I would visit again.
Yara★★★★★
The place is very unique with a combination of French charm and Japanese elegance. They also have a kids menu which is rare for Michelin starred venues, a perfect introduction for young gourmands 🙂

A lovely evening. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful and the food delicious. Amuse bouches and palate cleansers interesting and well executed. Had the vegetarian menu which was far more imaginative than most and was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the artichoke. Puddings were to die for (stand out was a chiffon biscuit so thin you could see through it). Petits fours were a triumph. My daughter and I much appreciated the efforts of all the staff to speak English (which they did to a high standard) as our French is somewhat faltering. She was especially pleased that her birthday was celebrated but in an understated and non embarrassing way. It was an especial pleasure to be able to chat to M.Uchimuro and congratulate him on his cooking and imagination
Tips for Dining in Dijon
To truly enjoy the gastronomic culture of Dijon like a local, a little preparation goes a long way. The rhythm of dining here is slightly different from larger metropolitan cities, with a strong emphasis on leisurely meals and seasonal availability. Understanding the local customs will not only enhance your experience but also ensure you get the most out of the region’s incredible produce and wine.
Book Ahead, Especially for Dinner
Dijon is a compact city, and the best tables fill up quickly, particularly on weekends and during the autumn harvest season. If you have your heart set on a specific bistro or a Michelin-starred room, make a reservation a few days in advance. Walk-ins are often possible for lunch, but dinner service is heavily booked by locals and business travelers alike.
Embrace the Lunchtime "Formule"
Dining out in France can be expensive, but lunch is where you find the best value. Most restaurants offer a "Formule" or "Prix Fixe" menu during the week, which includes two or three courses at a significantly reduced price compared to dinner. This is the best way to experience high-end cooking without stretching your travel budget.
Do Not Skip the Regional Aperitifs
Before your meal, order a local aperitif to awaken your palate. While Kir (white wine with cassis liqueur) is famous, Dijon is also known for the "Kir Royal," made with Crémant de Bourgogne. For something more rustic, try a "Ratafia" or a local Marc de Bourgogne, which perfectly complements the rich flavors of the regional cuisine.
Understand the Mustard Etiquette
While you might be tempted to slather everything in Dijon mustard, remember that in fine dining, it is used as a subtle accent rather than a main sauce. You will often find it incorporated into vinaigrettes, glazes, or served sparingly alongside charcuterie. Taste the dish first; the chefs here use the sharp, acidic bite of the mustard to cut through the richness of the cream-based sauces, not to overpower them.
Ask About the Wine Pairings
Burgundy wines can be intimidating, with their complex appellations and village names. Do not hesitate to ask for guidance. Sommeliers and servers in Dijon are incredibly knowledgeable and generally love helping visitors find a bottle that matches their budget and their meal. Trust their expertise; a locally recommended Aligoté or a village-level Pinot Noir will often pair better with the food than a more expensive grand cru.
Dijon is more than just a stop on the way to the vineyards; it is a destination that rewards those who take their time. By lingering over a cheese course or spending an afternoon browsing the stalls at Les Halles, you connect with a food culture that has been refined over centuries. The city’s culinary identity is deeply tied to its landscape, and there is no better way to understand Burgundy than through its table.
Whether you leave with a jar of hand-crafted mustard, a bottle of Gevrey-Chambertin, or simply the memory of a perfect Boeuf Bourguignon, the flavors of Dijon are designed to linger. Bon appétit.
