15 Best Pizza Spots in Montpellier

Montpellier has quietly become one of the most exciting food cities in the south of France. While Lyon and Marseille often dominate the culinary conversation, this sun-drenched university town blends Mediterranean tradition with a modern, creative energy that extends well beyond fine dining. The pizza scene here is a perfect example of that evolution.

For years, pizza in France meant either a quick slice from a food truck or a heavy, cheese-laden pie from a chain restaurant. But Montpellier has embraced the Neapolitan revival with open arms, while also honoring the wood-fired traditions of Provence and the Languedoc. The result is a diverse landscape of dough, sauce, and fire.

What makes Montpellier stand out is its access to exceptional local ingredients. The surrounding region produces fragrant olive oil, sweet San Marzano-style tomatoes, creamy burrata, and aromatic herbs. Talented pizzaioli here know that a great pizza begins long before it enters the oven, with careful sourcing and patient fermentation.

Whether you are a student looking for an affordable weeknight bite near Place de la ComΓ©die, a family searching for a relaxed terrace in the Antigone district, or a traveler chasing a perfectly charred crust in the historic Γ‰cusson, there is a pizza for every mood and budget in this city.

The best pizzerias in Montpellier tend to share a few common traits: dough that rests for at least 24 hours, toppings that respect the seasons, and an oven that reaches serious temperatures. Many also offer a thoughtful selection of natural wines, local craft beers, or house-made desserts.

Below is a curated list of the 15 best pizza spots in Montpellier, based on ingredient quality, consistency, atmosphere, and local reputation. Each one brings something distinct to the table.

Lovely dining experience with tasty pizzas and pastas! Service was awesome in a relaxing setting by the river and all of the people were very kind. The tiramisu dessert was super delicious! All around great place to eat.

We were passing through Montpellier for one night and chose to eat here because of its proximity to our hotel. And what a pleasant surprise it was. The staff is amazing, I hope they all will be happy and successful in their paths.. The pizzas are true to style and the pizzetta (small pizza served with salad) with the salad is an amazing idea. I look forward to other pizzerias adapting it. In short, this place is worth taking a turn just to try it out. You will leave happy.

I came because of the reviews and didn’t regret it. The pizza was delicious, the rest of the menu looked great and my waiter Alex was very attentive. English was not a problem. I highly recommend coming here; if I’m ever back in Montpellier this will be on my list. πŸ‘

Excellent restaurant. Service was efficient and the staff were lovely. I went on an evening in August so it was busy but the pizzas were delicious and the service was quick. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful square. Can’t wait to come back.

In a little courtyard, tucked into one of the many charming parts of Montpellier exists La Terrace. A space with not only delicious pizza and tapas, but also an incredibly attentive and kind team. Whether you want to enjoy happy hour nestled among the trees and quaint buildings, viewing sculptures. Or feeling the lively energy of a plaza filled with the warming sounds of laughter and conversation among tables of friends, couples, and families who relish their time spent together β€” there’s something here for you. Their happy hour is not to be missed, though coming at any point in time will be a joyous occasion. 20/20. C’est magnifique !

Went with my friends for a drink in the evening, it's a very nice spot and the beer for 4,5€ during happy hour is not bad either!

We waited almost an hour for a daily menu dish. When we explained that we had to get back to work, they asked us to wait longer, but the food never arrived. When we decided to leave, the waitress was rude, unprofessional, and even threatening, demanding that we pay for a meal we never received. I do not recommend this place. Terrible service and a very bad experience.

Great pizza. Thin crust, yummy tomato πŸ… sauce and flavorful toppings. I got the vegetarian pizza, and it was loaded with flavor. One of our favorite places to go. This place is great. I went with some friends who are regulars. Frank, the owner, is very friendly, treats you like a long lost family member and gives you happy pours for your wine. The pizza is great with nice flavours and thin crust. I had the Calabraise and tasted the 4 Fromages. Both were excellent. I will be back!

Exactly what you expect from a pizza: tasty, abundant in garniture, not burned, served quickly. I had a margherita (it's quite expensive because of the fiordilatte and bufala mozzarella) with added eggplant. Excellent. One of the best pizzas I ever ate in France. Loved.

Very good for the price but can be burned. Mine got burned around the crust. Update. Ordered again and this time it was even worse. The entirety of the crust was fully burned. Half of the pizza went into the trash because they can’t properly cook it. Look at the image.

Absolutely the best pizzas we’ve ever had! From the first bite, you can taste the passion and dedication that go into every ingredient. The crust is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the toppings are fresh and full of flavor, and the balance of spices is just right. You can tell these pizzas are made with love by a truly talented cook who knows how to create something special. Not only was the food amazing, but the entire experience was fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. We felt genuinely welcomed and appreciated. This was our first visit, but it certainly won’t be our last. We will definitely be coming back for more of these incredible pizzas. Highly recommended!

All the seating in the surrounding restaurants around were crammed in together promising long waiting times for service. This pizza place was tucked away with delightful shady tables. They had obviously been busy and had not had a salad delivery on a Sunday but provided a piping hot, tasty pizza and a salad, although not as advertised, was really rather better than ordinary. Alcohol free beer was available and the service brilliant. A gem of a find.

A Perfect Family Dinner Spot! We had a fantastic experience at Pizzeria Don Peppino in Montpellier! The food was absolutely delicious – fresh, authentic pizza and a great selection of wine. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole visit even more enjoyable. What made it even better was the outdoor space – the kids had the freedom to play while the adults could relax and enjoy the meal. It’s rare to find a place that strikes such a perfect balance between great food, atmosphere, and family-friendliness. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful place! The new owners are two highly motivated, enthusiastic, and friendly young men who brought this place to new heights. The pizzas are a delight: fine crispy crust and delicious taste! The open terasse is in the center of old town with a view on the church tower, but very quiet because it's a pedestrian zone. Don't miss this occasion of spending a great time in a pleasant environment with delicious food! We definitely had a great time!

An excellent choice for any meal. The pizza's are delicious and the salads too. The best part is the kind waiter that served us. He was great. We went back twice. Highly recommend. It's in a very bustling square.

This Italian restaurant is in a convenient location and has comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. The server was prompt, friendly and courteous. The menu is has many options and the food is absolutely fantastic. The biggest bang for the buck is the crispy salad: for four euros you will get a large portion of one of the best salads you will ever eat.

After abandoning our original plan for lunch we decided on pizza at La Mamma, service was pleasant though a little chaotic and one of our pizzas was not what was ordered, when they did arrive my ham four ways was excellent, good crust and each style of ham was delicious. P ordered a margarita (something else turned up but this was remedied). The margarita was an excellent cheese pizza but not really a margarita (too much cheese, too little sauce and one basil leaf), good crust though.. would probably not return.
Denizβ˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†
Where do I even start.. we ordered truffle burratta and focaccia as a starter, not sure what they brought as as focaccia. It was a plain pizza dough what they served us, very dry and not near traditional focaccia. We also ordered red wine and it was borderline hot. We had to ask for ice to cool it down a little bit. Also the menu does not include any descriptions for the half liter wine and we did not like it. After the starters we waited 15 minutes for the main this which was a margarita pizza. It was quite overwhelming with the tomato sauce without any basil. It was overall very mid pizza and a not very pleasant experience for our only night at Montpellier.

The food was excellent. The service was good. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no soap in the toilet. The "Cafe gourmet" was very delicious with 3 desserts: tiramisu, Pana Cota with honey and a small chocolate cake.

O vesuvio is an italian napolitam restaurant In the heart of Antigone. Cool setup, nice terrace, friendly staff and a very diverse menu. All items are reasonably priced and their IPA beer is also really good but my rating is missing a star because we waited over 50 min for 4 pizzas which I think is a lot but all in all it’s highly recommended for an authentic napolitan pizza πŸ•πŸ€Œ

The Food was very tasty, size was more than ok. we ordered à calzone and pizza fritta🩷 and cannolo siciliano as dessert (incredible). They have Italian béer. A nice restaurant a short walk from the city center. The food was amazing, the best gnocchi gorgonzola I have had whilst in France. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and not too busy. Although I did not have a reservation, they managed to give me a table for one person. I sat down outside and the view was spectacular. They give you tap water, which is great. Regarding the food, I ordered a Siciliana pizza and it was so delicious. It was a good, thin, and flavoured pizza. This was my first Italian dinner I had in the city, so I would recommend it if you want to eat a good, authentic, and affordable Italian meal. I would go back to try other pizzas or their platters. Great job!

Very disappointing pizza and more importantly how one can have such bad tiramisu. We ordered vegetarian and Parmesan pizza and both were equally disappointing. Veg pizza was full of white onion and Parmesan pizza was not having any Parmesan cheese at all. Pizzas were extremely under cooked . Won’t recommend this place !

We had a great dinner at Casa Di Giorgio on Jean Jaurès in Montpellier. We ordered pizzas and finished with tiramisu for dessert. The pizzas were really well prepared — thin, nicely baked crust with quality ingredients and balanced flavours. You can tell they pay attention to the dough and freshness of the toppings. The tiramisu was creamy, light and not overly sweet, which made it the perfect ending to the meal. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, especially because of its central location, but still comfortable for a relaxed evening. Service was friendly and efficient despite the restaurant being busy. Overall, a very enjoyable Italian dining experience. We would definitely come back for the pizzas again.

Really had a great meal at Casa di Giorgio. The food was amazing and delicious. We tried the pasta Carbonara and Gambas Γ  la Toscana. Both dishes were excellent. We had a mix of antipasti of arancini and salad. The waitress recommended some nice wine to go with the meal. Service was pretty good despite the restaurant being too busy on a Sunday night. We will be back to try other dishes and probably dessert which we skipped this time.

What a wonderful spot to sit outside and have dinner! We enjoyed watching the people go by, as well as the mix of street performers. The staff was very helpful, and provided English menus. The food was good - we were just in Italy and had so much wonderful food so our standards are likely high for carbonara and lasagna! Nice wine choice and plenty of other beverages. We had a great meal experience!

Booked a table inside as there was aircon. Unfortunately it only worked for 2 mins at a time. We were given the controller to try & work it out ourselves 😁 Waited ages to order, getting hotter every 2 mins. Eventually ordered some wine, 2 simple pasta dishes & some bread. Another long wait & the wine arrived. This was followed by the food almost after we had finished the wine. No bread though. The Arrabiata was nuclear hot. All the chilli powder was on the top couple of pasta pieces & it was bland underneath. No fresh chilli. We were going to order some desert but got fed up waiting so joined the queue to pay our bill. Graciously the manager removed the Arrabiata from the bill. I’d be careful at this restaurant, if it’s busy I’d suggest elsewhere. If you order anything with spice mix it yourself 😁 Had many much better Italian dinners.

Casa di Giorgio is a nicely decorated restaurant which serves Italian dishes, on one of Montpellier most famous streets (Rue de la Loge) From outside the place looks smaller than it is actually, as it has an β€œhidden” room on the back I went there for the proximity to my hotel and for reviews they got and, true to be told, I was very disappointed. I ordered a classic and simple Margherita, which was thin, crisp and rather dry with little mozzarella and - for the very first time in my life - black olives. I do not know if that’s their standard, I made a bad choice or the pizza maker had a bad night. Prices of water bottles, starting from 5,00€, are out of this world.

Attention please ! After 7 months in Montpellier and around 50 restaurants at least, this is by far the best experience I’ve had. The restaurant itself is so cozy and calm. The setup is simple yet charming and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. We took the season’s salad and it was so fresh and tasty. The tomatoes and ham on it were its stars. As for the pizzas, we took a tartuffo and a don camillo. The tartuffo was the best truffle pizza that I’ve had it has just the perfect amount of every ingredient and the pines added a little extra flavor. As for the don camillo it’s their signature pizza, nothing to say about it it’s just great. For desert we took a limoncello cheesecake and a moelleux au chocolat. Great cheesecake !

We've had an amazing experience dining here. The food was great, and the location superb, with the outside allowing you to taste the vibe of the city, and the inside giving you the privacy of an 16th century cellar. The service wasn't fast, but only because we've been there at peak hours. The waiter had a great wine and dessert recommandation for us. Can't recommend this place enough, after the way it enhanced our evening πŸ™‚

My wife and I come here every time we're in Montpellier together, and after nine years, it's still our favorite place for pizza. Great food, charming ambiance, friendly staff.

Fast service, reasonable price, tasty food, a bit too crowded and people hanging out the door and that makes it a bit shady but overall it was good.

I thought it was good, but in the end, the pizza had only one olive and the pasta lacked salt; you couldn't taste the seafood. And as for the time, you can see the quantity when it's indicated in the photos. Unfortunately, I'm disappointed, given the picture. I hope it will change.

Staff are very lovely and helpful, fresh OJ and really good pastry ✨️ I'm a matcha lover and their matcha was of low grade unfortunately. Paid over 6eur for a almond matcha which did not live up to the price πŸ˜“

The quality of the food was poor. It was not as described and for the price, way over rated. Would definitely not eat here again. Sorry to the staff, as they have to work with the poor quality

The staff is kind and polite, the space is clean and cosy, the pizzas are original and delicious. Not so vegetarian-friendly, as they have very limited offer, and one of their "vegetarian" pizzas actually has anchovies in it?!

Great pizzas and place. Only problem was a delayed 25-30 minutes when there weren't many people in the place. The lady recognized the time problem and apologized. I appreciated the fact she apologized. This is my second time going to Pizza Cosy, hopefully doesn't happen again in my next visit.

Tips for Choosing the Best Pizza in Montpellier

Finding a truly memorable pizza in Montpellier is easy once you know what to look for. The city has enough variety that a little guidance can help you match the right pizzeria to your craving, whether that means a classic margherita or something more experimental. These practical tips will help you navigate the local scene like a regular.

Look for visible wood-fired ovens. The most reliable pizzerias in Montpellier cook over wood or a blend of wood and gas. A visible oven near the dining room is usually a sign of pride in the craft and allows you to watch the blistering process in real time.

Prioritize dough over toppings. A great pizza starts with a light, airy, well-fermented crust. If a menu describes its dough as β€œ48-hour fermentation” or β€œsourdough,” that is a strong indicator of quality. Toppings can be beautiful, but they cannot rescue a dense or bland base.

Ask about local ingredients. Montpellier sits in a rich agricultural region. The best pizzerias mention where their mozzarella, tomatoes, or cured meats come from. Look for mentions of producers in the HΓ©rault, Gard, or Aveyron departments.

Book ahead for weekend dinners. Popular spots in the Γ‰cusson and near the train station fill up quickly from Thursday to Saturday. A short phone call or online reservation can save you from a long wait, especially if you are dining in a group.

Consider the lunch menu. Many top pizzerias offer a reduced-price lunch formula that includes a pizza, salad, and drink. This is an excellent way to sample a high-quality restaurant without committing to a full dinner price.

Montpellier’s pizza scene reflects the city itself: youthful, international, and deeply connected to its Mediterranean roots. Whether you prefer a strict Neapolitan pie with a soft, leopard-spotted crust or a crisp Roman-style base loaded with local vegetables, you will find a kitchen here that takes the craft seriously.

The best advice is to explore beyond the main tourist squares. Some of the most memorable pizzas in Montpellier are served in small, unassuming storefronts on quiet side streets, where the focus is entirely on the dough, the fire, and the ingredients. Take your time, eat slowly, and enjoy one of the city’s most satisfying culinary pleasures.
