From the gleaming luxury of the Promenade des Anglais to the winding, pastel-hued alleyways of the Old Town, Nice offers a shopping scene as diverse and vibrant as the city itself. It is a destination where French haute couture meets the rustic charm of Provençal markets, creating a retail landscape that appeals to high-end spenders and bargain hunters alike.
Whether you are hunting for a unique vintage garment, a jar of artisanal olive oil, or the latest designer handbag, the capital of the French Riviera delivers an unforgettable retail experience. Understanding the geography of Nice is key to mastering its shopping culture.
The city is neatly divided into distinct districts, each with its own personality and specialty. While the Carré d’Or dazzles with international luxury brands, the streets surrounding the Port offer authentic antique shops and local artisans. Navigating these zones allows you to curate a shopping itinerary that perfectly matches your personal style and budget.
However, shopping in Nice is not just about the purchases; it is about the atmosphere. The city retains a strong Mediterranean tradition of market shopping, where vendors call out their daily specials and the scent of fresh flowers and socca fills the air. These markets are not merely tourist attractions but vital parts of daily life for the Niçois, offering an authentic glimpse into the local culture that you simply cannot find inside a shopping mall.
To truly enjoy the retail offerings here, one must adapt to the local rhythm. Shops often close for a lengthy lunch break, especially in the Old Town, and reopen in the late afternoon when the heat of the day has subsided. Furthermore, the concept of “flânerie”—the art of strolling without a specific goal—is essential here. The best finds in Nice are often discovered by wandering down a narrow side street or climbing a hidden staircase.
This guide is designed to navigate you through the very best retail addresses in the city. We have curated a list that balances the iconic with the hidden, ensuring you know exactly where to go for specific items. From sprawling department stores to niche concept shops, we cover the essential stops that define the Nice shopping experience.
Below is our curated selection of the top destinations that should be on every shopper’s radar when visiting the French Riviera.

Decent shopping centre however I feel it’s lacking in clothes shops and I didn’t like having to pay to use the bathroom. Other than that it’s a great food court, very clean, modern and looks nice inside.

Nice etoile (Nice Star) has a good selection of lower to mid end market shops with clothing home wear beds tea and restaurants to name just a few examples. Good to spend an hour if the weather turns, just watch for pick pockets… not a normal thing here, but it does happen like anywhere.. the one bug-bare like much of France, is that you do need to pay to use the toilets in the centre.

I like this mall with perfect location and very clean. Security and other staff were friendly, greets the customers. There are many stores where you can buy gifts and stuff. As well as many restaurants and cafes with different options. I came several times and feel want to come again. Thanks to everyone in this beautiful mall.

I only visited the lower floor, which mainly features handbags, accessories and cosmetics, so I cannot comment on the entire outlet. However, my impression was very positive. There is a wide variety of stores, everything is well maintained and neatly organized, and the overall atmosphere is pleasant. A nice place to spend a few hours shopping and browsing. 🛍️✨

The mall is good for shopping bags/ gifts. Level 4 is the tax refund if you spend more than 100 euros too! Came here 2 days straight. There’s also many brands like COACH, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors. Recommended! It’s also close to the train and food and beach nearby.

My wife & I recently visited the “Creed Perfumes” Retail Counter in Galeries Lafayette Nice City Centre. We were welcomed by Nicholas. Nicholas was very knowledgeable regarding the Creed range of products. Nicholas was kind courteous & an absolute pleasure to deal with. We bought the Creed Carmine perfume & matching body lotion. My wife was very happy. Well done Nicholas 10/10

I've been to both Gallery Lafayette in Paris and in Nice. I have to say I prefer to the one in Paris. The service and selection is different. I enjoyed my cup of coffee on the top floor. Beautiful architecture and central location. Easily accessible by tram.

A truly beautiful discovery in Nice.
The CALA 1789 space feels like a quiet breath ,elegant, minimal, and thoughtfully designed. The collections reflect a refined coastal spirit: soft tones, natural materials, and pieces that feel both effortless and intentional.
As a creator from here, I’m especially touched by the attention to detail and the atmosphere of calm sophistication. It’s more than a boutique ,it’s an experience of lifestyle, where aesthetics and comfort meet with subtle poetry.
A place I’ll happily return to

I recently had a shopping experience at Jimmy Choo in La Fayette, Nice, that was unfortunately less than satisfactory. My primary issue was with the service; the sales assistant was not readily available, resulting in a lengthy wait of around 20 minutes just to try on a pair of shoes. Although the assistant later provided explanations about tax refund processes and other details, it did not make up for the initial lack of service. The delay in receiving assistance significantly impacted my overall experience. As a result, I left feeling dissatisfied with the service provided at this Jimmy Choo location.

Must visit marche in Nice, one of the oldest marche and full of hidden secrets and gems, traditional local foods like socca, pissadelliere, salad niçois etc, many local handicrafts / handmade shops for souvenirs. Pretty pastel and colourful alleys along the way.

A must-visit gem in Nice!
Marché aux Fleurs at Cours Saleya is absolutely breathtaking and captures the true spirit of the French Riviera. The vibrant colors of fresh flowers, local produce, and artisanal goods create such a lively and joyful atmosphere. Walking through the market feels like a celebration of life—filled with wonderful scents, friendly vendors, and beautiful surroundings just steps from the sea.
It’s the perfect place for a morning stroll, people-watching, and soaking in authentic Niçoise culture. Whether you’re buying flowers, tasting local specialties, or simply enjoying the ambiance, this market is unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Nice!

oh my gosh, this place was a dream. I bought beautiful flowers and brought them back to my hotel and had them for the week in my hotel. The fruits and vegetables are gorgeous and we brought back some berries and ate them for the week as well.

New addition to the architectural landscape of rue Thiers. Right beside the SNCF Railway Station. A range of clothes shops, bars and small cafés, as well as a large Monoprix. Biggest attraction is the luxurious Hilton Tree Garden Hotel. Very well situated beside mainline railway station and L1 tram stop.Good base from which to explore.

looks nice, but its nothing like mall, some shops outside and no inside area to cool down or just chill
Leo★☆☆☆☆
This building is such an eyesore. Why would I visit Nice as a tourist just to see the same architecture I would see back in London or New York. Based on the other reviews I'm shocked that this design was even approved. I'm sure that inside of the mall will be nice though.
Caroline Jones★★☆☆☆
Disappointing! Had expected some high end shops, but just a hotel (Hilton) conference centre, gym and some "fashionable" food outlets. Seen it once, won't be going again!

very bad, the attendants took 1 year to come and serve, and they only came because we called them twice (they served ALL the tables except ours, and they still came with a dirty look on their face

The shopping centre is located at a point, where it almost makes no sense to visit if you don’t have a car… 3 busses and 1.5 hours to get there when by car, it would be closer to 30 minutes! The bus from the end of tramway 3 is only a short distance, but it is a necessity due to the park being located off the main autoroute.
The park is disjointed and few signs. The children’s play and activity centre is located just next to the multistory car park giving the children a good dose of pollution 🤦♂️… shops located there are fine, just the other problems really need ‘urgently’ to be addressed.

If you cant find it here. You probably dont need it. The small asian restaurant outside is very good and also KFC across the road. We visited often an bought too many cakes

Nice is full of interesting things to do, and I absolutely love the vibe here! The architecture in the old town is stunning 😍😍😍. It's also a great idea to check out the antique market on Mondays—definitely worth a visit!

Nice was the breathtaking beach I have ever seen in my life. Not that I enjoyed the 'rocky-sand' but the sea, the atmosphere, the temperature everything was just amazing. Even Nice seem to be a very expensive place to visit, it did not feels like it was, food and drink was affordable to buy, similar to everywhere in France, there is even a market that you can visit too. It was such a mesmerised and unforgettable place I have ever visited.

Nice is very beautiful
Day and night life city non stop
Central market it’s amazing during day time
Restaurants very nice and you can go around with the Tram system

Worst designed parking approach in existance...for such a big mall it's a shame. If you have a car good luck not to scratch it when ENTERING THE TIGHTEST garage approach in your existance, only french tiny cars can enter, don't bring a sport german car there...for example porsche ....the size is diabolitical... car has milimetres on each side of the rim before scratching and if you manage to pass that the barrier holder will be closr to the approach that your mirror will hit it so either scratch a rim or a mirror...BIG MIDDLE FINGER FOR YOU...gilotineee for you...🤗
Steven Webb★★★☆☆
Just a mall. Nothing special. Low ceiling, narrow aisle, not much to see. 2 floors but upstairs is major construction (and a big chain sports store). Really good assortment of cafes though, Delfino's especially nice. Clean, bright, colorful, very good tables, chairs, pretty counter. In a suburban area, big Riquier train station 400m away.
I'm not sure why, but the carnival went by during our mall visit.
Essential Tips for Shopping in Nice
Shopping in Nice requires a slight shift in expectations compared to other major European cities, particularly regarding timing and payment methods. By understanding the local customs, you can avoid frustration and unlock a more authentic experience. Here are some crucial pieces of advice to help you shop like a local rather than a tourist.
1. Respect the Lunch Break
One of the biggest surprises for first-time visitors is the midday closure. Many independent boutiques and even some larger stores close between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. Plan your day around this; use the lunch hours to enjoy a long meal at a bistro, as the shops will be closed anyway. The shopping day typically picks up again around 3:00 PM and runs until 7:00 PM.
2. Bring a Reusable Bag and Cash for Markets
While credit cards are widely accepted in malls and established boutiques, the open-air markets operate on a different system. Many vendors at the Cours Saleya or the flea markets prefer cash, especially for small purchases under €10. Additionally, plastic bags are increasingly phased out in France, so bringing a sturdy tote bag is both eco-friendly and practical for carrying your market finds.
3. Learn the Art of the Greeting
Customer service in France is formal and polite. When you enter a small shop, it is customary to say “Bonjour” (or “Bonsoir” in the evening) to the shopkeeper. When leaving, a simple “Merci, au revoir” is expected. Failing to greet staff is often perceived as rude and can result in a less helpful experience. A little politeness goes a long way in establishing rapport.
4. Understand the Sales Seasons
Unlike in some countries where sales happen year-round, France has regulated sale periods known as “Les Soldes.” These massive discounts occur only twice a year: once in January (winter sales) and once in late June/July (summer sales). Outside of these windows, you will see “Ventes Privées” or “Promotions,” but the deepest discounts are strictly reserved for these government-mandated periods.
5. Consider Tax-Free Shopping
If you are a non-EU resident, you are entitled to a VAT refund (Détaxe) on purchases over €100 made in the same store on the same day. Look for the “Tax Free” sticker in windows. You will need to fill out paperwork in the store and validate it at the airport kiosk before departure. This can save you roughly 12% on your luxury purchases.
6. Explore Beyond the Main Avenues
While the Avenue Jean Médecin is bustling, the true character of Nice lies in its side streets. Do not be afraid to walk uphill into the Libération district or explore the streets behind the Port. You will often find better prices, unique vintage items, and a more relaxed atmosphere away from the main tourist thoroughfares.
The beauty of shopping in Nice lies in its contrast. In one afternoon, you can transition from the sterile, air-conditioned halls of a modern shopping center to the chaotic, colorful energy of a Provençal street market.
This juxtaposition allows you to tailor your experience to your mood, whether you are seeking the quiet contemplation of an art gallery or the thrill of haggling for an antique mirror. Ultimately, the best souvenir you can take home from Nice might not be an object, but the memory of the hunt.
It is the taste of a candied fruit sampled at a confiserie, the feel of authentic Provençal linen, or the satisfaction of finding a vintage silk scarf in a dusty second-hand shop. By taking your time and embracing the local pace, you will find that shopping in Nice is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
