Lille has quietly transformed into one of northern France’s most vibrant destinations for evening drinks, blending Flemish architectural charm with a youthful, creative energy. While the city is famous for its bustling terraces at street level, the real magic often happens several stories above the cobblestones. Rooftop bars here offer a unique perspective, allowing you to watch the sun set over the red-brick facades and the distant belfries while sipping a locally brewed beer or a sophisticated cocktail.
Unlike sprawling capitals where rooftops can feel impersonal, the elevated drinking scene in Lille feels intimate and distinctly local. Many of the best spots are hidden within boutique hotels, repurposed industrial buildings, or cultural spaces, meaning you often need to know where to look. The views range from panoramic cityscapes encompassing the Opera House and the Euralille business district to secret garden terraces tucked away from the hustle of Vieux-Lille.
The seasonality of Lille’s climate plays a significant role in how these venues operate. The high season runs from late spring to early autumn, when the long northern European evenings provide the perfect backdrop for open-air socializing. During the winter months, many of these spaces pivot to cozy indoor lounges with glass walls, ensuring that the elevated experience is available year-round, albeit with a different atmosphere.
Whether you are looking for a romantic date spot, a lively après-work hangout, or a chic location to impress visiting friends, the city’s vertical landscape has something to offer. The cocktail culture here has matured significantly, with mixologists emphasizing local ingredients, from genièvre (juniper spirit) to regional fruits. Meanwhile, the beer selection often highlights the best of the Hauts-de-France region, a welcome nod to the local brewing heritage.
Navigating these spaces requires a bit of local knowledge, as dress codes and reservation policies can vary significantly from a casual daytime café to an exclusive evening lounge. Generally, the atmosphere in Lille remains welcoming and unpretentious, but arriving early is always wise, especially on weekends when the most coveted terraces fill up quickly.
To help you elevate your visit, we have curated a list of the most remarkable elevated drinking spots in the city. From lush, plant-filled hideaways to sleek, modern rooftops with panoramic views, here is where you should be heading when you want to see Lille from a different angle.

We recently had lunch at Nu after it was recommended, the food, location, service and the cocktails especially were superb. Shout out to Theo and Samantha who served us and also took pictures for us. If ever back in Lille will definitely be going back to this restaurant.

We came here for lunch on weekend. Ample seating choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We tried a few starter plates and it was delicious. Server was friendly. We will come back and try their set menu on weekdays.

. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was also very chic and trendy, making it a great place to go for a special occasion.
I would definitely recommend Nū - Restaurant Bar Rooftop Lille to anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining experience.

NU is one of the best rooftop restaurants in Lille, and I’m so glad we managed to get a table for our anniversary dinner, even with a last-minute decision. Charlotte was incredibly sweet; when our main course arrived a bit late, she offered us a complimentary glass of champagne.

Went there with my partner to celebrate the new year eve.
Outstanding food and mariage with various wines. Exceptional service: very reactive and instructive. We loved hearing about the recipees. Great singers, dancers, costumes and background music. Beautiful Black and White atmosphere.
My partner and I had a wonderful time where we reflected on 2025 and envisionned 2026 with optimism.
For this special occasion, a few aspects to improve:
- White lights made it difficult to take great pictures.
- The casino rooms only had 2 games, which makes the overall experience a little costly
- Music places by DJ only electronic. Other genre would have been appreciated.
Otherwise, we go to this restaurant every two months to celebrate our achievements. Food is always amazing. Service is always personnalized and reactive.

I celebrated my birthday in Mesa and it was fabulous. The restaurant is beautiful, very trendy and vibrant. My friends and I had a wonderful time there as everything was lovely. I definitely will go back if I am
In town.

We visited Mesa for a company dinner, hoping to enjoy a memorable evening with our international colleagues in a stylish setting. While the location itself is stunning and full of potential, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations.
First, we encountered some difficulty entering the parking area—our car had different license plates than those provided during the reservation. We tried calling the restaurant for assistance, but unfortunately received no clear help. The response was, “I have to check with my manager”, while a line of cars formed behind us, in the street. A more proactive and customer-focused approach would have made a big difference.
Once on the terrace, some colleagues waited over 20 minutes to receive their cocktails. The terrace itself is lovely, offering great views over Lille and a wide variety of drinks—but the wait time left a poor first impression.
Dinner was served indoors, but the table setup (an “U” shape) made group conversation difficult. It felt like form had been chosen over function, which didn’t suit a corporate dinner.
The food, however, was very good—nicely presented and well-cooked. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in its work.
Overall, Mesa shines with its atmosphere, terrace, and live music, but the service needs refinement to match the level of the venue. It’s also worth noting that despite a stated dress code, not all guests seemed to follow it, which affected the upscale ambiance slightly.
Mesa is worth visiting for the views, the drinks, and the potential of the space—but manage your expectations when it comes to service.

Extremely poor service and zero communication. The place was hot and uncomfortable, and the steak had no flavour and was badly cooked. Overall a very bad experience.

Great, romantic restaurant with an amazing view. However, the service left much to be desired. I took my wife up there for a cocktail evening and we had amazing cocktails but we waited a very long time between being seated and being attended to. Waiters were flying past us like we didn’t exist. Once the drinks came it was quite enjoyable. Make sure not to go during peak times because you could end up waiting quite a bit.

We stopped by for a drink before our dinner. Since it was my first time there, I expected the view to be a bit better, especially given the place’s name. It turned out to be a bit cramped and didn’t quite meet my expectations. The cocktails were average in taste and overpriced.

What a beautiful end to a lovely evening.
This is not all about the view (be aware it is in high demand).
This place is about cocktails and these guys are serious. An original selection of cocktails using original artisan spirits.
So good we had two cocktails.
Dominique the bar tender and the waiter (can't remember his name) were so helpful and the chat at the end with the explanations just contributed to the overall experience.
Highly recommend cocktails here with or without the view.

Such a perfect spot! The guy who served us drinks kept checking up on us and asked if we liked the drinks or not. He’s such an amazing person shoutout to him and his amazing service. Keep up guys, i personally loved this spot and will always come back whenever im in france.

Came here for a quick drink after dinner. Nice and warm and lovely atmosphere. We sat down and a friendly staff member let us know there was a table around the corner by the window if we wished. So we moved there to have a view outside.
This is not high up enough to have a overview of the city. Some people made the comment that they expected more of a view. But this is called "Bar the View". So we read that as per the UK meaning (given we are from the UK), so we were fine. It is a 1st/2nd floor view.
Loved it. Great drinks. Will return.
Laura Charnley★★☆☆☆
Disappointing and not quite what we were expecting from this bar. We visited whilst staying at the hotel as we thought it would be a great location to enjoy a cocktail and food. However the bar is very dark with small windows and has a very low black gloss ceiling which makes it feel claustrophobic. The windows being so small make the view hard to see from anywhere but directly at a table in front of the windows making the whole place very dark. We ordered cocktails which were nice, however we also ordered a charcuterie board, but after an hour we hadn’t received our food and hadn’t been offered any further drinks so we asked for the bill and left. The staff member was apologetic and was surprised we hadn’t received our food. Seems we were completely forgotten about. We were glad to leave though with it being so dark inside, and instead we enjoyed the view, food and drinks at another restaurant in Grand Place which was much more enjoyable.

Great rooftop spot for views of the Belfry, the Grand Place, and the Voix du Nord newspaper building. Often full, so you have to try your luck and ask at the hotel reception as they don't take reservations. Nice menu of cocktails, wines, beers, and soft drinks. Impeccable service. Espresso €3.50. A must-do, I highly recommend it.
Pierre-François MOULIN★★★★★
Stunning rooftop bar with a beautiful view of Lille from the 5th floor, featuring a terrace and bioclimatic pergola (Premium Fermetures). A wide selection of cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, is available.
Access is via the Hotel Bellevue entrance. Take the elevator to the 4th floor, then change elevators to the 5th floor, or take the stairs. The bar overlooks Lille's Grand Place.

A moment of pure pleasure, perhaps the best food I've tried in Lille. It deserves much more visibility and recognition.

Without a doubt, the best view of all the rooftop bars in Lille! They serve lovely cocktails and simple yet fresh and delicious dishes. The staff is fantastic, thank you for this experience!

Exceptional view, pleasant staff.
But you're clearly paying for the location; the food is quite basic and the portions are rather small.
Fine for a drink, but not so much for a meal.

This review comes from the bottom of my heart; I'm so disappointed by the behavior... I was really looking forward to this raclette dinner with my friends. Unfortunately, life had other plans (life, which I won't go into here), and I had to cancel my reservation that same day due to a (MISSIBLE) health issue.
I notified them by email the first time in the afternoon (3:47 PM) because I was IMPOSSIBLE to call. Then, once I was available, I contacted the hotel. I spoke with the "bar manager," who refused to listen to the reason for my cancellation. No empathy, no understanding. Her only response: charge my credit card a percentage of the menu for four people. And what about giving me time to find someone to take my reservation? Her response: "It's too late, it's in two hours, everything's ready." Everything's ready?! Everything is ready to take money from my account and offer the table to other customers. Unbelievable. Zero humanity. Money. Money. Money. No response will justify this behavior.

We had a lovely evening, with perfectly balanced cocktails, attentive staff, and a friendly atmosphere to enjoy the beautiful view. We'll definitely be back, and thank you to the whole team! 🙏🏼

Total scam, a 25cl glass of coke for €5 is a steal, even in Switzerland it doesn't cost that much!!! Avoid it, plus the waiter is unpleasant. I don't recommend this bar.

A charming terrace open out from a completely ordinary bar entrance of this bar in Old Lille. What is special is the calmness of the cathedral and non touristy feel for an apéro. Prices are fine, cocktails can be slightly non innovative though. Our tea came lukewarm a bit. But go for the terrasse.

Great terrace behind with views to the cathedral. Always that I'm in Lille I go for a beer there.

Love this bar. Haven't eaten a meal here yet. Maybe soon.
However, simply being able to sit at the terrace that's looking on to the Cathedral is lovely.
The staff is very friendly as well.
Fan★★★☆☆
Beautiful from the outside and beautiful inside. The terrace view is gorgeous but the terrace itself is pretty boring.
Face mask is obligated to walk to your table, but the terrace is packed with chairs and you are literally sitting less than 20 centimeters to strangers which is not acceptable in these times.
We came for a beer but it was really expensive. This and the fact that it was uncomfortable with so many people made us leave. What a pity.

It’s a nice place to spend a quick late afternoon or early evening having drinks. I chose the place because I wanted to try the hotdogs. Presentation was very good, but I was really disappointed with the quality of the sausage as it was tasteless. Also they put too much mustard. Size is good but there are tricks to improve the flavor of the sausage. Try to boil them with beer in instead of plan water... you will see 😉

Tips for Enjoying Lille’s Rooftop Bar Scene
To make the most of your elevated experience in Lille, it helps to understand the local rhythm and etiquette. The city’s rooftop culture is heavily influenced by the weather and the French approach to dining and drinking, which often means longer, more relaxed visits rather than quick stops. By planning ahead and knowing what to expect, you can ensure you get the best seats and the best service, regardless of the season.
-
Check the Weather and Call Ahead: Northern France weather can be unpredictable. Even in summer, a sudden shower can close an outdoor terrace. Always check the forecast and call the venue to confirm the rooftop is open before making a special trip.
-
Reserve for Sunset Hours: The golden hour is prime time at any rooftop in Lille. If you want a table with a view, especially on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights, a reservation is non-negotiable. Walk-ins are often relegated to the bar or turned away entirely.
-
Dress Smart Casual: While Lille is generally relaxed, many of the higher-end hotel rooftops enforce a smart casual dress code. Avoid sportswear and flip-flops if you are heading to a venue in Euralille or a boutique hotel, as bouncers may turn you away.
-
Embrace the Regional Drinks: Instead of defaulting to a standard mojito or Aperol Spritz, ask for a cocktail featuring genièvre or a local craft beer. Many rooftop bars in Lille pride themselves on showcasing Hauts-de-France producers, offering a more authentic taste of the region.
-
Plan for the Temperature Drop: Even on a warm summer day, the temperature on a rooftop can drop significantly once the sun goes down, especially with the northern breeze. Bring a light jacket or scarf to stay comfortable during the transition from day to night.
-
Combine with a Dining Experience: Many of the best rooftops are attached to excellent restaurants. If you want to guarantee a good spot for drinks, consider booking a table for an early dinner. You can often linger at your table or move to the bar area afterward without waiting in line.
Lille’s rooftop bars are more than just places to drink; they are vantage points that offer a deeper connection to the city’s architectural rhythm and social pulse. Watching the city lights flicker on over the Grand Place while the noise of the streets fades below is an experience that captures the essence of this underrated French metropolis.
Whether you are a local looking to rediscover your city or a traveler seeking a memorable night out, taking your evening to the next level is always a good idea in Lille. Just remember to look up—you never know what hidden terrace might be waiting just above the skyline.
