15 Best Pizza Spots in Nantes

Nantes may be famous for its mechanical elephants and historic château, but for locals and savvy travelers alike, it is quietly becoming one of Western France’s most exciting food cities. While the region is traditionally known for crêpes, galettes, and Muscadet wine, the pizza scene here has evolved into something truly special. From wood-fired Neapolitan pies to creative French-Italian hybrids, the city offers a surprising depth of flavor for anyone craving a slice.

The beauty of Nantes’ pizza culture lies in its diversity. You are just as likely to find a tiny hole-in-the-wall serving authentic sourdough bases as you are a bustling modern trattoria topping pies with locally sourced goat cheese and honey. The city’s strong student population and vibrant arts scene have pushed restaurateurs to experiment, resulting in a pizza landscape that respects Italian tradition while embracing local Loire-Atlantique ingredients.

Understanding where to eat in Nantes can be overwhelming, especially if you are visiting for just a few days. Many of the best spots are tucked away in the medieval Bouffay district, while others are spread across the trendy Île de Nantes or the residential streets near Place Viarme. Knowing which pizzerias prioritize slow-fermented dough over quick fixes can make the difference between a mediocre meal and an unforgettable one.

This guide is built on extensive local research, visits to the city’s most talked-about tables, and conversations with Nantais residents who take their food seriously. We have focused on spots that offer consistency, quality ingredients, and a genuine sense of place. Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner spot or a quick lunch slice between sightseeing, there is a pizza here for you.

We have intentionally excluded generic chains and tourist traps that rely on pre-made bases or low-quality toppings. Instead, you will find independent operators, passionate pizzaiolos, and restaurants that treat pizza as a craft rather than fast food. Each entry has been evaluated for dough texture, sauce balance, cheese quality, and overall atmosphere.

Below, you will find our curated selection of the best pizza spots in Nantes, followed by practical tips to help you navigate the local dining scene like a pro.

Fantastic food, very nice service and food arrived in no time. The pizza and calzone dough were so tasty I dont mind what u put on top of it, it would still taste good.

I had an incredible dining experience at this Italian restaurant! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the manager at the door, which set the tone for the entire evening. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The pizza was absolutely delicious – perfectly cooked with a crispy base and loaded with fresh, flavorful toppings. You can really taste the quality in every bite. And don’t even get me started on the dessert – not only was it delicious, but the portion size was super generous, perfect for sharing (or not!). Overall, this place exceeded all expectations. Great food, amazing service, and a lovely atmosphere. I can’t recommend it enough! Will definitely be coming back.

Sat outside in the old town in Nantes and had pizza, dessert and I had grappa, the pizza and desserts were good, the grappa wasn't great. Nice atmosphere sat outside until it got a bit chilly.

Kayıhan Turgutoğlu★★★★☆
The dough and tomato sauce were genuinely good. Light sauce and well-baked, and flavorful dough. That said, two things really disappointed me. The beer menu is far too narrow; nothing interesting to pair with pizza. And my anchovy pizza came with barely any anchovies. I had to hunt for them. When you're paying for a topping, you expect to taste it, especially on a cheeseless style where the anchovies are the star. Great foundation, but they need to be more generous with toppings and improve their drink selection.
Kaleb Curl★★★★★
I went here with a group of coworkers for dinner and we all very much enjoyed our food. The pizzas were all fantastic and they had plenty of variety. The drinks we had were good as well. The restaurant felt nice, clean, and the waitress was also very friendly and helpful. I'd gladly come back!

I'm Italian and of course a pizza lover.. it isn't easy to find pizza with quality ingredients and cooked perfectly. It was my first time and for sure will not be the last. I took the Lazzarone, the tomatoes was melting like I love,my bf took the red hot chili peppers and that one also is very good. Thanks also for the service, makes everything so perfect✨

A lovely and cozy spot with fantastic pizza—the dough is delicious! What sets this place apart is their use of organic ingredients, which is a huge plus compared to other options nearby. The only area for improvement is the delivery time, which could be faster. Overall, everything else was excellent!
Pim Duiverman★★★★★
Very nice and cosy place. Service was very helpful and good. Pointed us to some nice options. Organic and local ingredients are a big plus.
Elise Le Mer★★★★★
Very tasty pizzas, very creative choice of ingredients (plus healthy, organic AND local), reasonably priced. The service is also very friendly. The only thing I wasn’t a big fan of was the large screen TV that tended to attract the eyes, no matter how hard we tried to focus on our conversation. But then again a great place I’d happily go back to.

Without a doubt, 10/10! Hands down the best pesto pizza I’ve had in my life – I’m still dreaming about it! 😍 The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant is just perfect – super cute and full of girly touches, even in the bathroom (yes, it’s one of those places where you’ll want to take a thousand pictures 📸) Every pizza on the menu looked unique and delicious – you can tell they put real thought into each one. And the cocktails? So good. 🍸 Whether you're coming for the food, the drinks, or just to soak in the atmosphere, this place is a must-visit!

William Oehler★★★★☆
We had a great dinner here on a cold and rainy Sunday night! I would say Graziella serves some of the best pizza in the Nantes area, especially if you're looking for Napoletano-esque pizza. The prices are the most enticing thing about this place next to their eclectic bright decor. For those who do not like a lot of crust, probably not gonna be your favorite place, but get past it cause everything else is great. I had the Salsiccia e Friarielli and was surprised at how well the friarielli worked on a pizza, the sausage was definitely the highlight. A couple of us ordered the Nero d'Avola rouge on the side and it was incredible. Everyone else loved their Margherita pizzas.. overall a great option for Nantes pizza!
Silke De Rouck★★★★★
Cosy spot, delicious pizza and very friendly staff. All tastes were nicely balanced and the pizza was indeed incredibly quickly served. Amazing experience!

The restaurant has a very pleasant, intimate atmosphere. The dishes were good, well-presented, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. The only downside was the prices, which seemed a bit high: €20.50 for a pizza and a glass of alcohol. At this price point, one generally expects more attentive service, whereas here you have to get your own dishes and water. A small extra touch of service would make the experience even more welcoming and in line with the prices. That said, we had a good time and appreciated the quality of the food as well as the atmosphere of the place.

Fantastic Sicilian-style pizza! Thin, crusty dough, high quality ingredients, prepared with care and craftsmanship. Small, intimate space, had a lovely chat with the pizzaiolo and co-owner. Grazie, Signore! Artisanal pizza as it should be. A slice of Italy in downtown Nantes.
Milan Zubicek★★★★★
Fantastic pizza, very friendly and fun staff.
Darren Geraghty★★★★☆
Good pizza - base was a little too crispy. Tiramisu lacked some authenticity - sponge needed to be soaked more and mascarpone seemed more like whipped cream.

Slow service, but above all, the owner was extremely aggressive in his remarks to customers (not to my face, but heard from a distance). A dishonest owner.

L. H.★★★☆☆
Disappointing. I don't like leaving negative reviews, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars, but we felt it deserved one or two. The value for money isn't there, nor is the service (not at all welcoming). It's not a big deal to have a lukewarm welcome if the food is good, but that's absolutely not the case here! The stracciatella was watery, and the truffle flavor is nowhere to be seen... for a €17-18 pizza, it's a shame. The location is great, I hope the art direction lives up to the pizzeria's name and that they add more generous portions to the menu. Good luck!
Ph iL★★★★★
The pizzas are always delicious, with a perfectly risen and crispy crust. A very friendly welcome. A small terrace, but in a very quiet neighborhood... No noisy neighbors and close to a great spot overlooking the garden.

Fabulous creation pizzas, specials, gourmet selections or classics - although not wood fired, all made with fresh ingredients have a super flavour. I should have got the daily special but was very happy with a gourmet 'carnivore' and a 'tartufo'. Delicious. Service was a little slow - but the pizzas come fairly quick once ordered. Loved it.

We've been customers since it opened in 2019, when we stumbled upon this gem (back before Covid, when they had a dining room). The pizzas are still just as excellent. The selection is very varied (a special mention for the Burratine or the Napolitana for anchovy lovers). We always bring our friends who haven't been before, and the verdict is always the same: excellent quality ingredients and great value for money. A special mention also goes to the kindness of the two founders who, despite the heat, are always so welcoming. A big thank you!

Such a nice and cute place to have lunch . It wasn’t busy at all, our server was actually the owner who was very welcoming and very polite. The food was very much on point with how the restaurant looks, which was perfect. Will definitely be going back there.

Tips for Enjoying Pizza in Nantes

Before you head out to explore the city’s pizza offerings, it helps to understand a few local customs and practical details. Nantes has a distinct dining rhythm, and knowing when to book, what to order, and how to get around will make your experience much smoother. These tips come from firsthand observation and advice from regulars who know the scene best.

1. Book ahead on weekends. Most of the top pizzerias in Nantes are small, family-run operations with limited seating. Walk-ins are often turned away on Friday and Saturday nights, especially in the Bouffay district. Call ahead or use online booking platforms to secure a table, particularly if you are dining after 8:00 PM.

2. Look for “pâte levée 48h” on the menu. The best pizzerias in Nantes proudly advertise slow-fermented dough, often matured for 48 to 72 hours. This process creates a lighter, more digestible crust with complex flavor. If a menu mentions this technique, you are likely in good hands.

3. Don’t skip the local toppings. While classics like margherita and diavola are reliable, many Nantes pizzerias shine when they incorporate regional products. Look for pies featuring chèvre from the Loire, smoked duck breast, or salted butter caramel drizzles. These local twists are often the most memorable.

4. Consider dining early or late. French dinner service typically starts around 7:30 PM, but many pizzerias open earlier for a more relaxed apéro-style meal. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, aim for a 7:00 PM seating or wait until after 9:30 PM when the first rush has cleared.

5. Ask about the oven. Wood-fired ovens are the gold standard, but some excellent spots in Nantes use electric or gas deck ovens with impressive results. Don’t dismiss a place simply because it lacks a traditional wood fire. Ask the staff about their baking method and temperature—passionate owners will happily explain their process.

6. Pair with local beverages. While Italian wine is a natural choice, consider trying a Muscadet or a crisp local cider with your pizza. Many Nantes pizzerias curate small lists of natural Loire Valley wines that pair beautifully with tomato, cheese, and charcuterie toppings.

Nantes rewards those who wander with an appetite. The city’s pizza scene is constantly evolving, with new spots opening in former industrial spaces and established favorites refining their craft year after year. Taking the time to explore beyond the main tourist drag will lead you to some genuinely remarkable food.

Whether you are a strict traditionalist or an adventurous eater, the pizzerias on this list represent the best of what Nantes has to offer. Bon appétit, or as the locals might say, bonne dégustation.
