15 Best Parks and Gardens in Madrid

Madrid is a city that surprises visitors with its abundance of green spaces. While the Spanish capital is famous for its art museums, tapas bars, and grand boulevards, its parks offer a refreshing counterbalance to the urban energy. Whether you are a local looking for a quiet lunch spot or a traveler needing a break from sightseeing, the city’s gardens provide the perfect escape. From royal grounds to modern river parks, Madrid’s outdoor spaces are as diverse as its neighborhoods.

The best part is that many of these green areas are completely free to enter. You do not need a car to reach them, as Madrid’s efficient metro and bus systems connect directly to the most popular parks. A simple walk through the historic center can lead you to hidden gardens tucked behind ancient walls. These spaces are not just decorative; they are living parts of the city’s culture and daily life.

Madrid’s climate makes park-hopping a year-round activity. Spring brings blooming almond trees and mild temperatures, while autumn paints the leaves in warm gold and red. Even in the heat of summer, the shaded paths and fountains offer a cool retreat. Winter, with its crisp blue skies, is perfect for a brisk walk followed by hot chocolate in a nearby café.

The history of Madrid’s parks is deeply tied to royalty and urban planning. Many of the largest green spaces were once private hunting grounds or palace gardens reserved for the monarchy. Over time, these areas opened to the public, becoming democratic spaces where families, runners, and friends gather. Today, they are essential to the city’s identity and quality of life.

You will find more than just trees and lawns in these parks. Many feature ornate fountains, rose gardens, boating lakes, and even outdoor workout stations. Some host cultural events, from puppet shows for children to open-air concerts in the summer. The parks are also home to peacocks, turtles, and a surprising variety of bird species.

For food lovers, several parks have charming kiosks and terraces where you can enjoy a coffee or a cold beer. Picnicking is a beloved local tradition, especially on weekends. Bringing a blanket, some bread, cheese, and olives is one of the most authentic ways to experience Madrid like a resident.

To help you plan your visit, here is a curated list of the best parks and gardens Madrid has to offer. Each one has its own character, history, and reasons to be included. Whether you have a full day or just an hour, there is a green corner waiting for you.

What a stunning park! Once part of the royal grounds, this park is now open to the public and there's a lot to explore! There are museums, gardens, trails, and more inside. Many go to the water and rent paddleboats, but I enjoyed exploring the rose garden and the remains of Europe's second-oldest zoo. Spend several hours wandering this grand park, just be mindful of shade and water areas.
Phong Nguyen Thanh★★★★★
Retiro Park is honestly one of the loveliest spots in Madrid! I went early in the morning, and the air was cool and pleasant, with soft sunlight filtering through the trees. What I loved most was the positive energy here — so many locals out exercising: joggers, people doing yoga on the grass, even aerobics groups and cyclists along the paths. It felt like the whole city was starting the day together, full of energy and life. The park is huge and green, with a large lake for boat rides and plenty of quiet corners to sit and relax or read a book. There's even a free museum inside the park (Palacio de Velázquez), which is a nice bonus if you want a bit of art and shade after your walk. The paths are well maintained, with lots of benches and shade. If you ever visit Madrid, I'd recommend waking up a little early to experience Retiro Park in the morning — you'll avoid the midday heat and get to soak in the lively rhythm of the locals.
Donka Georgieva★★★★★
A beautiful and peaceful place, even though it is located right in the heart of Madrid. A wonderful spot for a walk, taking photos, and enjoying some time surrounded by nature. The atmosphere is amazing, and we would definitely love to come back again.
Agata Groth★★★★★
A truly beautiful place and one of the highlights of my trip to Madrid. The park is incredibly well maintained, with stunning gardens, peaceful walking paths, and plenty of spots to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The lake, fountains, and impressive architecture make every corner worth exploring. Whether you want a quiet stroll, a picnic, or simply a break from the busy city, Retiro Park is the perfect escape. I could easily spend hours here and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Madrid.

Located in the center of Madrid, this beautiful park offers a refreshing escape from the city, with very little concrete and plenty of greenery. It’s the perfect place to visit after exploring the museums or the busy city center. I highly recommend coming early in the morning to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before it gets crowded. If you want to experience Madrid’s park culture, take a slow walk, breathe in the fresh air, and simply enjoy the calm surroundings.

one of Madrid’s most beautiful and peaceful parks. It features elegant gardens, small lakes, sculptures, and historic buildings in a well maintained setting. A perfect place to relax, walk, and enjoy nature away from the busy city..

Very nice park/garden with many monument and a swan pond. All the buildings are full with historic vibes. The plants and flowers are beautiful. It’s not too crowded, giving a refreshing ambient making you feel reconnecting with Mother Nature.

This unique park is really different from other parks in Madrid. Dreamy, serene, well taken care of and exclusive. It only opens on Saturday and Sunday (9am-6pm) which makes it a more special visits. If you happen to stumble upon this park online, you have to come and see it for yourself.
James Brazier★★★★★
Jardín El Capricho, an oasis of tranquility in an otherwise congested and often The city noise fades and you’re surrounded by lush greenery and sculpted gardens. The park offers a blend of nature and history: a gentle stream winds through the landscape, towering and beautifully maintained trees provide shade in the searing heat. The hedge maze could be better and is often closed. The Civil War bunker offers a more somber and fascinating glimpse into Spain’s past. Book in advance normally there is a guided tour around May. Nice place for a gentle run.
Ilka Marra★★★★★
Gorgeous park, really worth it even if it's a little far from the center. Recommend for a romantic afternoon walk, just gorgeous and many surprises all around the park. Forget about the map and just wander around, you'll find beautiful details all around.

Very nice place to spend time under shadows of beautiful trees. Entry ticket is 4 eurow per person there are toilets inside a small shop selling souvenirs but no cafe for coffee or waterm There are vending machines for water and soda but be careful I bought water 2 times in a row paid with credit card it charged the amount but failed to deliver the can there were no one to complain about it. Thanks god it wasn't a considerable amount but it's disturbing.
M. Leong★★★★★
Im glad we did this before our later afternoon flight home, it had been very hot so wasn't that appealing but it was a short walk from our hotel, so thought we'd go, plus the 4€ entrance fee meant if we didn't stay too long due to the heat then it wasn't a waste of time/money. However.....it's a gorgeous lush park, yes many of the spring flowers have ended but the trees and surroundings are beautiful, offering plenty of welcome shade from heat! Don't forget to look up as you walk under the canopy of the trees. It's stunning. We went mid morning and was quiet. There was also a exhibition which was interesting and a surprise! Well worth a visit, could have stayed longer but we had a flight to catch.
Jennifer Wilson★★★★★
The garden was absolutely beautiful! Gorgeous scent from the flowers and herbs. So many birds singing, I loved it! There was a Bonsai Terence with Trees 60 to 100 years old, incredible. The day I was there (May 8th 2026) was a mixture of rain and sunshine. Good value entrance fee. Toilets available. Signs for a cafe but there was none open. I would highly recommend and I will go there again.
Jane Stanley★★★★★
A beautiful botanical garden inside Madrid's famous Retiro Park. In mid April some tulips were already fading, though some swathes and banks of colour were still visible. There were many peonies, including tree peonies, irises, blossoming shrubs and chestnut trees in flower, glass houses and well kept flower beds. Definitely worth a visit.
Piotr Kalinowski★★★★★
A serene escape filled with beauty, relaxing paths and perfect harmony. The thoughtful design, excellent maintenance, and vibrant flowers, trees, and shrubs make Real Jardín Botánico a peaceful place to unwind and reconnect with nature. It was the second (after Singapore) prettiest botanic garden I visited this year.

A beautiful park and great to grab a bike and ride or reserve a boat for a ride. A great way to spend a few hours. There are a few cafes and restaurants along the water
John Powell★★★★★
A vast park within easy reach of the city, using bus or Metro to the southern end. Easy to find plenty of space to walk, run or cycle once away from the attractions of the southern parts of park. Few public lavatories, however. In March, one was able to walk underneath nesting storks.
Culturs - The global Multicultural Magazine★★★★★
Gorgeous-a few degrees cooler than the center of the city and so much to do in nature 10/10 experience
Rohan Hearn★★★★★
Casa de Campo (translating to country house in Spanish) is a large public park located to the west of the historic centre of Madri. The park is over 1,700 hectares in size and is the largest park in Madrid. The park was originally a royal hunting estate and was created by King Philip II in the 16th century - from which the park gets its name. The estate was originally used primarily by Spanish royalty for leisure and was only opened to the public in 1931. This was due to the transition of Spain from a monarchy to a new Republican government which aimed to modernize Spain and break from class privilege and divide. Today the park features some spacious and beautiful forests and gardens and rolling hills, it is a great spot to take a break from busy city life and go for a walk. Due to the quantity of hills there are a lot of points from which visitors can appreciate panoramic views to the rest of the park and even back over to the city skyline. There are a lot of cycling options available too including a covered cycleway. There are other curiosities to find in the park too such as remaining Spanish Civil War bunkers and the Valdeza Aqueduct. Lago (lake) is a great spot for a picnic or for eating at one of the several lakeside cafes and is a nice entry point to visit the park. Metro access is available by the Lago station on line 10 of the Madrid Metro. Casa de Campo also boasts the Madrid Parque de Atracciones and the Zoo Aquarium de Madrid.

Casa de Campo is a wonderful escape from the busy city. It's a huge park with beautiful walking and cycling paths, peaceful lakes, and plenty of green spaces to relax. Whether you want to enjoy a picnic, go for a run, rent a bike, or simply take in nature, it's the perfect place to spend a few hours. The park is clean, well maintained, and offers fantastic views in several areas. It's a great spot for families, couples, and anyone looking for a quiet break while visiting Madrid. I would definitely recommend adding Casa de Campo to your itinerary.

Exceptional retreat from the city and breathtaking views of the royal palace. There are fun hedge mazes, beautiful fountains and rose gardens. The property is exquisitely maintained. Easy to get to and plenty of places to grab a snack, meal or drink around afterwards. Highly recommend for tourists.

It's great for a walk but be warned that it is big and not all exits are functional all of the time. We spent quite some time in it and kids loved the experience of not having to follow a specific route.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Royal Retreat! If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Madrid’s city life, Campo del Moro is the perfect spot. These gardens are a great respite—very quiet, tranquil, and surprisingly overlooked by many tourists. Why It’s Special The park is massive and beautifully maintained, featuring a variety of different paths that lead to secret gardens and small frog ponds. It’s a place where you can truly immerse yourself in nature: Wildlife: There is an abundance of wildlife including birds, butterflies, and the famous peacocks with their huge, colorful plumes roaming freely. Atmosphere: It is so peaceful inside that all you can hear is the humming of bees and the singing of birds. Walking these paths, you really feel the history of the kings and queens of Spain who once strolled here. Photographer's Dream The views are spectacular. From the main entrance, you get an amazing perspective of the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral. Because of the elevation and the lush "green carpet" of the lawn, the palace looks like it is floating in the background. It is easily one of the best spots in Madrid for photography. Go Unhurried: Give yourself time to wander. It’s a large space (over 20 hectares), and the best parts are found by taking the winding side paths away from the main avenues. Whether you want to see the "royal turkeys" (peacocks) up close or just need a quiet moment surrounded by nature, this is a must-visit gem in the heart of Madrid.
Cristina Mitroiu★★★★★
It's nice to walk through the park next to the palace after visiting it. There's a lot of greenery, and you can also find a terrace where you can sit and have a coffee.
Heather Brushwood★★★★★
Really enjoyable park to walk around and explore statues, fountains, plants, flowers.

I stumbled upon these gardens purely by chance while exploring the area next to the magnificent Royal Palace of Madrid. The entrance is completely free, which was a pleasant surprise. The whole space is extremely well maintained with beautiful statues, hedge mazes, and peaceful fountains. Even on sunny and hot days, the environment inside feels pleasant, refreshing, and full of cool shaded spots to sit and unwind. Historically, this space used to house the royal stables before it was transformed into elegant neoclassical gardens named after the Italian architect Francesco Sabatini. The only slight downside is that you have to walk down a set of stairs to get inside, but it is totally worth it for the views and the tranquil vibe right in the middle of the city.
Thodoris K★★★★★
Well looked after with fountains green and places to sit and relax. It combines well as a visit with Campo Del Moro next to it.
Miriam Noyola★★★★☆
Sabatini Gardens are a beautiful pause in the middle of Madrid. From here you get stunning views of the Royal Palace and the nearby Senate building, all framed by perfectly manicured gardens and fountains. What made it extra special was the energy around the plaza, locals casually free-dancing, people relaxing, and that unmistakable Madrid vibe where history and everyday life blend effortlessly. Peaceful, lively, and photogenic all at once. A must-stop whether you’re sightseeing or just soaking it all in.
Alghazali Taha★★★★★
Sabatini Gardens is such a peaceful and beautiful spot in the heart of Madrid. The symmetrical hedges, fountains, and flowers make it perfect for a relaxing stroll or just sitting and enjoying the view. It’s right next to the Royal Palace, so you get an amazing backdrop while wandering the gardens. The atmosphere is calm and serene, a nice break from the busy city streets nearby. Whether you want to take photos, relax, or enjoy a quiet moment, the Sabatini Gardens are definitely worth a visit.
Tân Trần Văn★★★★★
Just behind the Royal Palace, the Sabatini Gardens offer a more structured and elegant green space in the heart of Madrid. Visiting in winter at the beginning of the year, the gardens were moderately crowded, with tourists strolling along the symmetrical paths and stopping to admire the palace views. The bare trees and trimmed hedges gave the gardens a clean, almost minimalist appearance. The calm design of the gardens contrasts nicely with the busy areas around the palace. Fountains, statues, and carefully arranged greenery create a sense of order and balance, even in winter. Although the cold weather limits how long visitors stay, the atmosphere remains pleasant and relaxed. Overall, the Sabatini Gardens are a beautiful place for a short walk or a quiet pause. Despite some New Year crowds, the gardens still provide a refined and peaceful experience close to one of Madrid’s most iconic landmarks.

Amazing! It's more than a relaxing city park. It's a mini forest that leads you to the rose garden and Egyptian temple ro the Royal Palace. It is great for a city time out. During nice Spring days everyone is reading or sleeping on a blanket or taking a lunch break. This is Madrid!

One the parks I enjoy the most in Madrid. It's big, calm and close to universities.

A beautiful park to take a stroll. Very well maintained. There is a huge, free rose garden. You can also walk to the opposite end for amazing views of the city. There is also a nice spot in the middle near the street where you can sit and have drinks. Gorgeous greenery and flowers and plants. A jewel in the city and not very crowded.
Freddy Turriaf★★★★★
Beautiful park in Madrid. Much less touristic than Retiro. Hidden gem
G Mac★★★★★
This is a beautiful park. It has several levels in parts. One lower level includes a rose garden, which is beautiful. Further along, you will find the Egyptian temple that was gifted to Spain after it assisted in removing the monuments from Abu Simbel. The Aswan dam was going to drown this monument and Spain assisted in its removal. A beautiful dog, friendly park and lovely to walk around. There is even a playground for the kids.

This is truly a beautiful little known "gem" in the heart of Madrid. This park, with some ponds, a little lake, a waterfall is so gorgeous, peaceful and quite. Lot's of families celebrating their kids birthdays right there on the grass like a picnic... There's also a public "library" where you can choose your own little space / desk and just enjoy reading or studying (free) ... In the summer heat that's a true oasis...
Jason Glen Pais Barboza★★★★★
A truly magnificent park in Madrid; one of the smaller and lesser known parks, but it outshine the rest in its own way. The park isn't large like Retiro, but it has its gems. There is a lake with turtles, frogs and fish surrounded by couple of small waterfalls. Additionally nestled in between many trees is a small little area with beautiful trees, shade and water, with birds, where you can relax and feel nature. It wasn't crowded when we went. It offers open spaces as well shaded areas amongst trees. Must visit with your family and if you want to do a lazy picnic afternoon.
Alejandra Díaz★★★★☆
Need a little maintenance but in general I enjoyed running there. And there was a lot of pidgeons which I loved.
Patrick Wilson★★★★☆
Nice pretty park with a pond and waterfall. Stunning mature trees (cedars), just a shame you can hear the autovia…
Ken Konrad Kramer★★★★★
One of Madrid oldest parks, dating back to the1850s. My daughter spend many afternoons there , learning to ride her first bicycle, nice playground, lots of older trees, an artificial waterfall, lake , some resident ducks and a group of peacocks that occasionally go on excursions outside of the park ! Great spots for picnics but gets crowded on weekends if the weather is sunny

Lovely garden within Retiro (separate opening time) full of peacocks. Seems like fewer females than males who are regularly hooting and hollering. Also cats, ducks, and pigeons - many multi species encounters
Eric H★★★★★
Lovely peacocks. Somewhat insulated from the noise of the city. Male Peacocks will pose if you’re patient and act like a female peacock.
Hendrik Van De Slijke★★★★★
The Cecilio Rodriguez Garden is one of the gems within the beautiful Retiro Park, brimming with pergolas, water features and dozens of peacocks. These birds are clearly used to people, so you can get very close to take a photo. Definitely worth a visit!
Nelson Earl★★★★☆
This is a beautiful park. Well maintained and lots of peacocks. It’s sad that they close it so early in the evening. It should remain open until sundown especially in a country where you don’t eat until midnight.
Mark M★★★★★
The Jardines de Cecilio Rodríguez is a serene, hidden treasure tucked away in the southeastern corner of Madrid’s famous Retiro Park. Unlike the more bustling areas of the park, these gardens offer a peaceful, formal retreat characterized by manicured hedges, elegant fountains, and classical pergolas. The undisputed stars of the garden are the magnificent peacocks that roam freely, often putting on spectacular displays of their feathers for visitors. It feels like stepping into a private royal sanctuary. For anyone seeking a quiet moment of beauty away from the city’s pace, this meticulously maintained oasis is a must-see.

Wonderful park. Very big with many nice sections and features. It wil at least require two to cover everything.

Amazing place to see live peacocks here. They are safe to feed by hand. Break up bread in your hand or if you have peanuts stretch your hand out to them and gently let them come by to eat from your hand. I came at a great time to see the male peacocks open their plumes of feathers. It is the female peacocks that have no fancy tail feathers which the male peacocks try to attract with them. There are also some of the most beautiful trees I have seen here.

Underrated green space in Madrid, for sure. It’s a big park, with hills and interesting views on most of the sides. There’s mostly dirt paths, with a couple more paved paths and an official lookout point at one end. There’s also a few graffiti walls that are cool to look at. And if you want to workout, they have different setups along the path, like monkey bars and ladders. Overall a great space to relax in the center of the city.
Laura Gema Haro Giner★★★★★
I am amazed. It is a huge park (I would say a forest!) with spaces for wandering, jogging, playing or just rest. It is quiet for reading and relaxing. It has lots of trees if you have had enough sunbathing. You can see the whole town from the walking path
Kristina Kezerić★★★★★
It's very beautiful and peaceful place with a lot of trees and grass. You can go for a walk there, drive a bike, play with a ball or just relax on the grass. Perfect place to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Very beautiful and big parc. Easy to get by metro The parc has a "hill" perfect to watch the sunset. There are tables where you can sit and have lunch for exemple. Perfect to do sport as well: bike, jogging, walk.

I can’t believe it took me four years of living in Madrid to finally visit Parque Juan Carlos I. This park is truly incredible. It’s spacious, beautifully maintained, and feels like a breath of fresh air compared to the more crowded parks in the city. Unlike El Retiro, it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly packed, which makes it perfect for a peaceful walk, a run, or just sitting and enjoying the open space. The sculptures, wide paths, and expansive green areas make it feel almost serene. Such a hidden gem in Madrid and I’ll definitely be coming back.
A- Dan★★★★☆
This is a very beautiful park where you meet many locals. It feels like the park never ends when you walk through it. The atmosphere is lovely, with families, children, and people enjoying their evening. I went there several evenings to walk a few kilometers and really enjoyed the relaxed and authentic vibe. A great place for a peaceful walk and to experience a bit of local everyday life.
Fobby★★★★★
Huge park with a large variety of activities to do. Great for a long walk, lots of wonderful scenery and sculptures. The park is slit into areas with different themes for planting and landscaping. We also saw a large lake where people were canoeing.
Erik Goldfield★★★☆☆
Beautiful park, however there are no dogs on leashes. It’s literally call of the wild out there. They have a designated dog park space but no one utilizes it. I love dogs but don’t want them jumping on me when I’m jogging. Beautiful park though.
Bertha Mumba★★★★★
A very large and beautiful park. I loved how peaceful it was, quiet and not crowded. There's plenty of open space to relax and explore. To me, it's my now favourite park in Madrid.

One of the most beautiful parks I have been to. Definitely underrated. It was bigger and more beautiful than I anticipated 🙂

The Garden of the three cultures is a piece of artwork that is located within the Juan Carlos I park in Barajas Madrid, it is a remarkable example of semiotic architecture which aimes to bring a message through the language of various elements that are brought together. the design of the garden makes it so distinctive place that you can go to and do different activities such as exercise, ride a bicycle, do picnic with family, kayaking, kite flying and much more. in my opinion it is the perfect place to get away time.

Great park to visit, it's a bit a big size park so there's enough space for all kind of activities

Great park, full of interesting features. Good for running, cycling, walking, picnics. Can get busy but there are always quieter hidden corners to escape the masses. Limited catering facilities so bring your own food and drink.

An overall simple park which is spread out in a longer manner which while walking you’ll be able to see the Manzanares river, the Segovia bridge, and other stuff. It’s a very popular park where runners and dog owners come to walk at practically anytime of the day. Overall also a well maintained, groomed, and clean park and great for morning and late afternoon walks.

This is an excellent park I have come across to! Good for joggers, walkers, runners and bikers. It's a dog-friendly environment too. There is a cafe, a playground and historical and interesting bridges along the river. This park is well-maintained.

Nice for an evening stroll, also enjoyed during the day by children with few splash pads. Well looked after place with many benches and fountains to enjoy greenery in the city. May not be in the Center of the tourist attractions but a nice place to discover and enjoy. Keep an eye on supermarkets near by where you can purchase picnic foods for cheaper and then enjoy at the park! Way to go Madrid for keeping the parks well looked after!

Love this park! Clean and safe. Great paths right asking the river. Loyes of places for children to play. Several bars for a sit down, drink, and bite to eat.

Cool. Not much place to sit around, but has a lil pinch of grass where ppl sit tho. Very nice fountains and sculptures & some labyrinth-like bushes.

Great venue to celebrate San Isidro.

A very local-vibe park. It's not a really good looking one nor it's in a very good shape, and there's a lot of cheap graffiti and homeless people, but it has a vibe to it - and a nice view of Almudena cathedral

Tips for Visiting Madrid’s Parks and Gardens

To make the most of your time outdoors, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The following tips will help you avoid common mistakes, stay comfortable, and experience these green spaces like a seasoned Madrileño. From timing your visit to knowing what to pack, these practical suggestions will enhance every park outing.

Visit early or late for the best light and fewer crowds. Madrid’s parks are most peaceful before 10:00 AM and after 7:00 PM, especially on weekends. The soft morning and evening light is also ideal for photography, and you will avoid the intense midday sun.

Carry a reusable water bottle. Many parks have public drinking fountains with potable water, but they are not always easy to find in larger spaces. Staying hydrated is essential, particularly between June and September when temperatures regularly exceed 30°C.

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Some of Madrid’s best parks, such as Casa de Campo and the Parque del Oeste, have gravel paths and gentle hills. Sandals may look stylish, but they offer little support for walking on uneven ground.

Check for free cultural events. During the summer, parks often host free concerts, outdoor cinema screenings, and theater performances. Local council websites and park notice boards list upcoming events, giving you a chance to enjoy culture in a natural setting.

Respect the siesta hours. While parks do not close for siesta, many nearby cafés and kiosks reduce their hours between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. If you plan to buy food or drinks, do so before or after this window.

Bring a light jacket, even in summer. Evenings in Madrid can be surprisingly cool, especially in parks with heavy tree cover or near the river. A light layer will keep you comfortable as the temperature drops after sunset.

Spending time in Madrid’s parks is one of the most rewarding ways to understand the city’s rhythm. You will see elderly couples strolling arm in arm, children chasing pigeons, and young people practicing flamenco under the trees. These are not tourist attractions in the traditional sense; they are living rooms for the people of Madrid.

As you plan your itinerary, remember that the best moments often happen when you stop rushing. Sit on a bench, watch the fountains, and let the city slow down around you. Madrid’s parks are not just places to see—they are places to feel, breathe, and simply be.
