We are a group of ladies from an Asian country and travel to japan regularly. Sorry to say that this jap restaurant didn’t impress. We ordered 2 appetisers: - chicken gyoza was ok - tempura shrimp wasn’t done with the right kind of batter 4 rolls: dragon roll, salmon roll, Futo Maguro roll and soft shell crab roll. When served, we noticed that seaweed was already damp, not fresh and crisp. Also, out of 4, 3 types of roll perilla leaves in them. This is not common and it affected the flavour of the rolls. We have no idea how the high rating came about, but in our humble opinion, the dinner wasn’t worth the price of euros 124 for 3 pax. Plus, the light soy sauce was disappointing too. However, the service staff was kind and patient. Hope the quality can be improved.

Lovely lunch at Onakaya. The highlight for me was the service—the staff are clearly experienced and the Japanese greetings add a beautiful touch of authenticity. I’m rating this a 4 out of 5 because of the tempura; it felt a little heavy and retained too much oil, missing that airy, delicate crunch I was looking for. However, the rest of the Bento sushi set was fresh and high-quality. Definitely worth a visit for the service and sushi alone!

Best Service and Food experience for us in Nice. This was not just a food to enjoy. This was a amazing place with the kindest Service we have every experienced. Not only was the food delicious, it looked amazing and was perfectly served. Thank you. Side Note :" The Limonade and the Tea were amazing too!"

This is the best restaurant I could find in Nice. All cold and hot dishes are delicious and nicely decorated. Enjoyed so much the cozy vibe and great service. We visited here twice and both experiences are great. Highly recommended.
Isaac Chan★★★★★
This is my second time visiting this restaurant. Service is fantastic - waiters are attentive and patient. Food is top-notch - be it miso soup, sushi, sashimi, dragon rolls, sirloin steak or chicken teriyaki. Price is reasonable especially given the service and food quality. Our best dining experience in Nice.
Amilia Agnello★★★★★
Absolutely fantastic! From the food to the atmosphere to the service — everything was amazing. The waiters were friendly and attentive, and the whole experience was perfect. We had a starter each, mains and dessert plus drinks and our bill only came to 100€. Totally worth it! We’ll 100% be back next time we’re in Nice!

A small cozy Japanese restaurant in Nice. A very pleasant surprise — the sushi is fresh and tasty, and everything is served quickly and neatly. Really good Japanese cuisine. Overall, a great experience, and I’d happily come back again.

I returned to this restaurant for the 5th or 6th time today; I really love it. The service is perfect, the decor is very pretty, the dishes are excellent, the desserts are original. The lunchtime set menus are great value.

Great location, amazing food, and good service. We’ve tried different dishes and everything was good. The only sushi I didn’t like so much (personal preference) was the one wit the Philadelphia cheese as the quantity used was too much. Other than that all perfect.
Heather S.★★★★☆
I had the California salmon cream cheese roll, veggie gyoza, edamame and mango passion mochi with a yume to drink. The food was good but the service was very very lax. The time it took to get the food was very long and the server was difficult to flag down. For example it took nearly 15 minutes for one order of mochi. Another thing to note - nigiri only comes in orders of 6, which is the first time I've ever seen

Amazing food!!! William was a fantastic waiter! Best service. Great atmosphere. The ramen was so flavorful and the sashimi was incredibly fresh. Definitely visit when in Nice!

Le Yen restaurant in Nice is a new, large Japanese restaurant that I really enjoyed. We have already been here several times. The interior is spacious, beautiful, and modern, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. What stands out is the presentation: there is a fire show, and you can actually see the chefs cooking on the open kitchen — it looks very impressive and beautiful. The sushi, salads, and other dishes are not only beautifully presented but also truly delicious, fresh, and carefully prepared. The service is very fast and good, and the staff is polite and friendly. It is definitely worth visiting.

Had a great experience at Le Yen in Nice! I tried a wide variety of Japanese dishes, from savory to sweet, and everything was consistently good. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor across the board. It’s the kind of place where you can explore different options on the menu and not be disappointed. Friendly atmosphere and a solid spot for Japanese food in Nice!

Very nice small place. Excellent food made with love. Instead of visiting 5 or 6 restaurants in Japan you can get a variety of Japanese dishes at the same place - Tapas style. Service was very friendly and fast. We certainly will visit it again.
Axel M T★★★★★
Really enjoyed dinner at Maido! Didn’t have reservations but they were able to accommodate us in 35 mins, there is a park a block away so feel free to make it your wait area. Food on point, adémame could have been a bit warmer but everything else amazing. Service top of the line, 3 people running the entire floor. Note: for regulars maybe a free wine bottle a week since you have a fridge so handy at the entrance. Would bring a nice ROI ☺️🤞we will be back

I had by far the most amazing and authentic Japanese cuisine ever in Nice!! Variety of sake menu and foods were just so delicious and fine. I was amazed that eveything there was made in the house! The service was very attentive too. Sashimi was super fresh and karaage(fried chicken) and okonomiyaki(savory pancake) were especially so tasty and very authentic. I’ll definitely come back!
Kai Neo★★★★☆
Cozy and cute little Japanese izakaya. Very limited menu and on the pricey side. Food portions are tiny but fairly tasty. They carry good sake, Umeshu, shochu and wines.
The Ghost Of Ricky Ricardo★★★★★
Certainly the most interesting and surprising Japanese dining experience that you can have in Nice. The chicken karaage was the finest I’ve had outside of Japan and the sake selection is absolutely fantastic. The entire experience benefits hugely from the knowledge and effervescence of the staff, who take great pride in their work and food. Maido is, without question, a must-visit eatery in Nice and a place that I’ll return to every chance I get.

Amazing experience of chefs choice of meal. Friendly and meticulous preparation. Took time to explain every dish. I was the only English speaker there, but was patiently explained the dishes in English as well. Wine was well paired. Definitely a must

Stellar and utterly tasty omakase on the upper floor of an already great casual restaurant below. I cannot think of any better restaurant of this kind in the region and to me this beats L’abbyse in Monaco by far. Sublime Nigiris. Top service. Great Saké-list.
Andrew El Marj★★★★★
An absolute banger! We decided to do the omakase and it was great! The atmosphere was intimate and welcoming, and the staff explained each dish thoughtfully without being overwhelming. Definitely one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had, and I’d happily come back again.
Marieme D★★★★★
From the moment we arrive, we are invited to unwind, slip off our shoes, and put on a pair of slippers. Then, in this wonderfully intimate setting, the chef’s exceptional creations begin to arrive, each bite more memorable than the last.

This was hands down one of the best (if not the best) meal I’ve ever had. So delicious and so much craft, ambiance was incredible. Would absolutely recommend!!

We had lunch here and everything was delicious; it felt very authentic, and the staff were friendly! The main courses were excellent, they have some lunch menu combo! Also the food reminded me of the food we had in Japan, but I also liked the touch of French fusion in the dishes. Personally I love crème brûlée, and they have a "crème brûlée of the day" here; we had the black sesame one, and it was amazing—definitely my favorite dessert of the trip! I highly recommend this restaurant. 🔥😍
Celine D Modschiedler★★★★★
Ma Yucca is always incredible! The staff is friendly, the decor cute and authentic, but most of all the food is absolutely fantastic! 💯 will continue to return whenever in Nice!
Nanita★★★★☆
Ma Yucca offers authentic Japanese food while remaining true to where it is based in Nice. There is a lunch menu available even on Saturdays that is an excellent value - miso soup, starter, main and dessert for €28. I had the mini dumplings to start followed by a nicely sized piece of salmon followed by a pear tart on a ground nut base. My guest started with the salad, had salmon chirashi next and the rice pudding for dessert. Two thumbs up for each of his dishes. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were just right. Reservations are recommended. Highly recommend this Japanese restaurant for its fish, for its starters and desserts.
Ed G.★★★★★
Our tour guide provided us with this recommendation. Japanese food lovingly prepared and artfully presented is the best way to describe our dinner. It's a small intimate place, so get there when they open, it seems to get crowded quick. They do however take reservations. Service was great, they were friendly and knowledgeable. It is a great alternative to a French meal.
Chista Nadimi★★★★★
Maybe the best japanese restaurant I have even been outsdie Japan.

I’ve traveled the world, grew up in New York, and this is by far the best Pho I’ve ever had. The service is fantastic, and I learned so much about how to mix flavors with sushi and the order in which to maximize the flavors within my dish. What an experience. Never thought I’d come across this in France. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If I lived close, I’d be coming back every week! Please go!
Olivia Perna★★★★★
Le Carpe Koï was such a lovely little find in Nice and exactly the kind of understated, authentic sushi spot we always hope to stumble upon while traveling. The menu is quite simple and focused mainly around salmon and tuna, but honestly, that focus is what makes the restaurant so good. Rather than trying to do everything, they clearly prioritize the quality of the fish, and it absolutely shows. The fish was incredibly fresh. I am very picky about seafood freshness and can usually tell immediately when something is off, so I can confidently say the quality here was excellent. The salmon and tuna were beautifully sliced, buttery, and clean tasting with that perfect fresh texture you want from good sushi. The presentation was also gorgeous in a very artistic yet understated way, reminiscent of a traditional Japanese sushi spot where the focus is entirely on craftsmanship rather than flashy gimmicks. I had the mixed salmon and tuna chirashi, which was absolutely delicious, while my partner ordered a combination of nigiri and California rolls that were equally fantastic. One detail we especially appreciated was that they offered both sweet and salty soy sauce options, allowing you to tailor the flavors to both the fish and your own palate. It was such a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more intentional. The service was very welcoming to us tourists, and the prices were honestly incredible for the quality. We spent around 18€ per person and felt like we got exceptional value for the freshness and care put into the food. Le Carpe Koï is not flashy, but that is exactly its charm. It is a simple, artistic, high-quality sushi restaurant with fantastic fish, excellent presentation, and very fair prices. We had a wonderful time and would absolutely return the next time we are in Nice.
Lina Ben Abdessalem★★★★★

Nothing to say except that it’s a perfect place. Prices are reasonable, food is fresh, and no complaints to the service, which is real friendly. We’ve been there 2 days in a row during lunch on Friday and Saturday, on Saturday had to wait way longer because there were a lot of people, but food was even more fresh. Will definitely come back when I get in Nice again.

Really enjoyed this place! It was my first time trying a conveyor sushi restaurant, and the staff explained the concept clearly when we arrived. Excellent dinner service. Keisuke himself is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about wines! Not to mention the food is one of our favourite meals this trip! Alfresco dining and people-watch in this massive heatwave - This is a must-go, and we will definitely return.

A bit overdue as we came here in February while visiting Nice. Lovely restaurant and great service. If you fancy unique tastes and real good cuisine then it’s a must. The ambiance is not ideal for kids, but even with that we enjoyed dinner with our 4 year old. Would love to come back soon!

Keisuke Matsushima is a gem in Nice. The food here is so good that I ended up having back-to-back lunches here. Every single dish is creative, beautifully executed, and absolutely delicious. The chef masterfully elevates local, seasonal ingredients with a subtle touch of Japanese umami. Combined with top-notch service and an impressive wine list, this place is a must visit in Nice. I am definitely coming back next time I’m in Nice.
Thuong★★★★★
The prawn and the eggs are excellent, very nice flavours and textures. Sea bream is great value. Oysters have good flavours
Nanita★★★★☆
Keisuke Matsushima is a must for those who appreciate good food done well. They offer a lunch menu during the week with several items that charge a supplement. A three course menu cost €38 and the “upgrade” surcharge (or supplement) varies depending on what you order. There are at least three options per course. The meal began with an amuse bouche - corn tempura, fig with seasame tofu, sardine with truffle. The combinations of flavor and texture dance on your tongue. Next for the starter, I was served sea bream ceviche with lime zest mini plums and peaches, sweet zesty and salty… such a clever combination made even better with the blueberries and mini greens. For the main course, I paid for the surcharge and ordered the fish of the day - merluza with asparagus green beans Kalamata olives with three small pieces of panis - fried chickpeas fresh as can be! And as for dessert, the black fig cheesecake with raspberry coulis was fresh, light and filling all at once. I could have ordered more of it and each of the meals. Another time… wanted to bring friend though lunch offer available during week only. Highly highly recommend! Located along the side of a mini square minimizing car and foot traffic though very centrally located. And away from crowded streets. Lovely experience!

Mediocre sushi tbh. Didn't taste as fresh as I was hoping considering the price. Nothing dangerous ofc but a little lacking in "fishy" taste. However, I would highly recommend the carpaccio appetizer. 5 stars for aesthetic though, especially the bathroom.
Vanni Rodriguez★★★★★
The food is fantastic, truly fantastic. Service is great!!! Recommend 100%. My average per person is higher than it would be normally because my son and I ate 2 special rolls each.
Ooft Sauce★★★☆☆
The sushi was not of the first class. The tuna rubbery and poor quality and cut. However the starters are very good, loved the gyoza and the teriyaki chicken. Service pleasant but patchy, they cleared the table yet we were still waiting an item. I think a quick lunch focussed on extras and not on the sushi would be fun.
Marketa Gousias★★★★★
Given the fact that Riviera is on the Med, we were always amazed why it was so difficult to find a good sushi restaurant here. Osaka is no fancy, ultra creative rolls but it surely is a very decent, fresh tasting, just lovely sushi. Definitely will be back…

We are in nice for two weeks and this place has been one of our best meals. We shared bao buns, bao burger, gyoza, salad, edamame and chicken curry with our two kids. The curry was such a hit we had to order a second bowl and my six year old finished the meal by drinking the sauce.

Overall, I had a good experience at Sushi Arson. We ordered the Saumon Aburis Creamy, Saumon Aburis Bonito Furikaké, Dragon Roll, Thon Spicy Special Mix, Gyoza, and the Poisson poêlé au miso-shoyu(fish with miso soup). The sushi was excellent. Everything tasted fresh, the fish was of good quality, and the rolls were well made. The aburi selections were especially enjoyable, and the gyoza were a nice addition. The only dish that felt a bit disappointing was the Fish Platter. Although it came with miso soup and rice, the fish portion itself was quite small for the price. The biggest downside was the waiting time. It took between 1 and 1.5 hours for all of our food to arrive, which is simply too long, especially when you’re dining in. Overall, the food quality is definitely there, but improving portion value on some dishes and reducing the waiting time would make the experience much better. I’d still come back for the sushi.

The atmosphere here is absolutely amazing! It feels like you are in real Japan. Everything is beautiful, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. I really love wine, and the white wine here is delicious — I especially enjoyed it. The food is always tasty. I’ve been coming here since 2022 or 2023, I don’t remember exactly, and I’ve never been disappointed. Everything is delicious, and it’s not only my opinion — my friends love this place too. A truly beautiful and atmospheric place. I highly recommend it!

Nice food. The waitresses were very nice and polite but the service was slow. It’s a small business with two people at front of house and one chef. It was worth the wait as the food was tasty. The only thing I would criticise was the soy sauce was not as salty as the usual I’ve had around the world - tasted sweeter than the usual like it was dark soy sauce definitely worth a visit when in Nice

Most beautiful presentation I have ever seen; clearly a lot of love and thought goes into the dishes. Extremely delicious gluten free items for me as a celiac: the white fish tartare and roll, and the salmon caramel.

Best sushi in Nice!!! My husband just got back from Tokyo and said the food here matched what he ate out there. It’s a small and cosy restaurant. We were welcomed by friendly staff and were served quickly. The food tasted and looked incredible. You could tell everything was fresh and high quality. We will definitely be back!

I had the tempura platter here and I was so incredibly pleased. It was so delicious. Very perfectly done and filling (had with a bowl of rice). Came with miso soup that was also very tasty. Incredibly authentic!! A bit pricey so I wouldn't rec for students or those on a budget, but if you have money to spend and want a good, authentic japanese meal, I would absolutely suggest this place.

🕰️ Dinner for two 📋 Beef tataki, assorted sushi, eel maki, cooked salmon, and two desserts (no drinks). Delicate and authentic Japanese flavors — refined dishes, a bit pricey but absolutely worth it!

Way beyond expectation, the review from the japanese dude is real, Shitaro san made authentic dishes just like the good one you can find in JPs local restaurants.. my taste buds were more than thrilled to be back. The dressing on the appetizers are both vinegar base but fine turned with different seasoning to stand out from each other. The Aubergine is very smooth and meaty, comes perfectly with a little taste of the ginger. Carpaccio gambas are very fresh and luscious the flavor has been enhanced with a slight touch of yuzu and shiso ( if I am correct) The coat on the tempura is really thin and delicate, you don't find it greasy. It's a perfect mix of choice on the ingredients, and the quality is so good that you can feel the nature of them. The sushi variety on the 12 pieces set is indeed delightful. It's intriguing to encored those in season. Unfortunately the kani gunkan is a special that only comes with the set and I feel guilty to not order chinchard again. We call it a night with the kakigori _ Ujikintoki Mellow red bean + full bodied mocha + buttery vanilla ice cream. What a memory.. the Shitaro 和食屋 would definitely be my day to day restaurant.to cure homesick .if I am based in Nice.

One of the best meals we had in Nice and probably the most authentic Japanese food outside of Japan! The chef and the two staff were very accommodating towards us as well ☺️ The sushi and sashimi was incredibly fresh and the tempura was fried to perfection with the batter being incredibly light and delicate. The Agadashi tofu was perfect as well, with the tofu being soft but with a beautiful outer fry. The meal was topped off with a refreshing and delicious matcha Kakigori with red bean paste and vanilla ice cream!

If you’re looking for truly authentic sushi in Nice — not the Westernized California roll variety, but real Edomae-style sushi — this place is an absolute gem. Operated by a Japanese chef with impeccable skills and attention to detail, every piece of sushi here is a testament to precision, tradition, and flavor. The rice is perfectly seasoned, the fish is incredibly fresh, and the knife work is flawless. You can feel the craftsmanship in every bite. No flashy sauces or over-the-top garnishes — just pure, delicate balance that lets the ingredients shine.

Went there for stir fry beef with onion after not being very full after my first dinner, and it did not disappoint!!! Beef and onion is well seasoned and hits the spot for my asian cravings! The staff is also very friendly, and the restaurant is very spacious and comfortable, a feeling like home indeed! Just regret not finding out about this gem earlier so I could also try their other dishes which looks amazing too!!! They also have Korean, Japanese, and Vietnam food, so would be a nice go-to spot to satisfy all your asian cravings!!!!

Very decent asian food, the gyoza is authentic, crispy skin outside with nice fillings. Bibimbap is decent too, like the spiciness. In general a good Asian meal in Nice.

I’m from Asia, and this is definitely not Asian food. It’s my first time eating sour curry — it made me wonder if the food had gone bad. This isn’t Korean bibimbap at all either; the beef was really dry and tough. The only good thing is big meal, with a lot of rice

So so good! Great place for Korean and Japanese cuisine! Affordable prices and big servings. They also have ice cream and Asian drinks! You order at the counter and they will bring the food to your table. They also do takeouts.

The best Gyudon we've tried outside of Japan! It's really authentic, with good meat, sauce, rice, and generous portions. The Caramel pork is sweet but super good! The staff are all smiley and friendly. The place is clean!

Practical Tips for Choosing a Great Japanese Restaurant in Nice

Dining well in Nice means knowing how to separate authentic craftsmanship from generic fusion fare. The following tips will help you make the most of your Japanese dining experience in the city, whether you are visiting for a weekend or settling in for a longer stay.

First, look for restaurants that make their own dashi and tare in-house. These foundational stocks and sauces are the backbone of Japanese cooking, and kitchens that invest time in them tend to care about every detail on the plate.

Second, pay attention to rice quality. Sushi rice should be slightly warm, lightly seasoned, and never dry or cold from refrigeration.

Third, do not overlook lunch menus. Many high-end Japanese spots in Nice offer excellent midday sets at a fraction of dinner prices, giving you access to premium ingredients without overspending.

Fourth, reserve in advance for omakase or tasting menus, especially on weekends. Counter seats disappear quickly, and chefs who serve seasonal fish often buy limited quantities each morning.

Fifth, ask about the fish source. The best establishments in Nice often combine Mediterranean catch with seafood flown in from Japan or Brittany, and they will be proud to explain their sourcing.

Finally, trust restaurants that keep their menus short. A focused selection usually signals freshness and specialization rather than frozen inventory.

Nice’s Japanese dining scene continues to evolve, and the restaurants featured here represent the best of what the city currently offers. Whether you prefer a quiet sushi counter or a bustling ramen bar, each venue brings something distinct to the table.

Exploring these Japanese kitchens also offers a refreshing contrast to traditional Niçoise cooking. After a few days of rich Provençal stews and olive oil–laden dishes, the clean, umami-driven flavors of Japan can be exactly what your palate craves.
