15 Best Cafes in Bayeux

Bayeux is a town that rewards slow travel. While the 11th-century tapestry draws visitors from around the world, the city’s true rhythm is found in its medieval streets, timber-framed facades, and the gentle flow of the Aure river. It is a place where history is not just preserved in museums but lived daily in the stone courtyards and quiet squares.

For many travelers, the search for the perfect café is about more than caffeine. It is about finding a moment of stillness between sightseeing, a shaded terrace on a warm afternoon, or a warm, wood-paneled room when the Norman rain arrives. The café culture here blends French tradition with a distinctly welcoming, unhurried atmosphere that suits both locals and visitors.

Choosing where to sit down can shape your entire experience of the town. A good café offers a window into local life—whether it is watching bakers deliver bread in the morning, listening to the chime of the cathedral bells, or simply savoring a well-made espresso while planning the next stop on your itinerary. The right spot turns a brief pause into a cherished memory.

Bayeux’s café scene is remarkably varied for a town of its size. You will find everything from historic patisseries serving elaborate pastries to modern coffee shops focused on single-origin beans and alternative brewing methods. Some places excel at traditional French breakfasts, while others are better suited for an afternoon glass of cider or a slice of homemade cake.

This guide is designed to help you navigate the options with confidence. It is based on careful attention to atmosphere, quality of food and drink, consistency of service, and location relative to the town’s main landmarks. Whether you are here for a day or a week, these recommendations will help you find a table that feels just right.

Below, you will find a curated selection of cafés and coffee spots that capture the best of Bayeux. Each one offers something distinctive, from hidden garden terraces to bustling corners on the main pedestrian street.

A great little cafe on the main drag. It’s opening times a little restricted. Had a fanatic lunch of croque and salad, with some local beer. It’s a cozy and friendly place. The homemade cakes are superb. I highly recommend this spot. Because homemade they know what is possible for gluten free, the cheese cake partner had was very good. We popped back for breakfast coffee another day and special tour biscuit.

It’s a 1010. The place is super cozy, the service is very good and welcoming; and the drinks are also super good, you can feel they’re made with love. Personally I love the chai latte. It’s hard to find a good one around these days but this one is 11/10. I’ll keep coming back surely. 🤍

Saw this spot recommended on a few blogs and knew we had to come try their famous award-winning cappuccino, and so glad that we did! An adorable cafe right in the heart of Bayeux. The cappuccino is truly a gem - so smooth, creamy, just divine, we each had to have two. We also loved our croissant with ham and cheese, Croque Monsieur and regular croissant. Highly recommend a visit for breakfast or lunch and would come back again! Thank you!

Excellent service, with a welcoming and warm host. The food was simple, but very filling with a focus on very good quality instead of quantity. The dessert, both the homemade tarts and cakes were very good. Finally the Coffee is, as said in other reviews, excellent along with a large selection of teas, whom the host can tailor to the dessert. All around a perfect visit

Sweet cafe with excellent espresso / the best we had so far during our vacation in Normandie / The cafe is decorated with great detail and is very cozy. Lovely owner who even prepared us an espresso although the cafe was actually already closed. Great spot to relax, have great coffee and boissons in Bayeux. Thanks 👍🏻

Beautiful old-fashioned teahouse with a unique and charming atmosphere and a fairy-tale setting located on the forecourt of the cathedral of Bayeux. All day long (from 9AM until 6PM) you can enjoy a variety of sweet and savoury homemade delicacies and pastries surrounded by lovely vintage decoration! They also have an incredible range of teas and everything is served on delicate china of all different patterns. The pastry we had was really to die for and the staff were very warm and welcoming. Highly recommended when in Bayeux!

The place is very cute and PINK. Toilets were not accessible due to repairs. Food tastes great but my son did find a hair in his food. It happens.

This place is exactly what I had hoped for! I was so in the mood for fresh orange juice, something delicious and light. Found it! Absolutely incredible! I have been looking for something like this place for a while. I had essentially an avocado toast. My wife had some kind of potatoe pancake, with eggs, pastrami, and all this other stuff. Freaking cool! It's called a Swiss Twist - Rosti. So delicious! Back to my avocado toast. They have it GF here which is almost impossible in Normandy. It was great. Fresh OJ was great, Americano was great, everything was great! Maelle (our server) is probably one of the best at service in all of Normandy! Very knowledgeable, engaging, charming, smart, and professional. Somehow Selma Alabama managed to hire the best and most capable service professional in Normandy!

Selma Alabama Brunch Cafe is an awesome spot for breakfast. If you’re looking for a place that opens early and actually serves food that’s both tasty and filling, this is it. I tried the croissant with scrambled eggs and salmon, and it was genuinely excellent - fresh, buttery, and perfectly balanced. The eggs were soft and flavorful, the salmon tasted fresh, and the portion was satisfying without feeling heavy. It’s the kind of breakfast that immediately puts you in a good mood and sets you up for the day. The coffee was also really good - exactly what you want in the morning. But what truly makes this place stand out is the service: fast, friendly, and attentive. Everything felt smooth and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a great brunch/breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.

We enjoyed the best American-French brunch here! Our coffees and tea were delicious! The eggs, avocado toast, lox dishes were beautifully created and so so good! As Americans, we appreciated this hearty breakfast! Delicious!!

Used to be a fan of their bubble tea, but recently had the homemade hot chocolate and loved it (comforting for this start of the fall season). Don't be shy and go have a look at their upstairs seating area. Super cute and they sell lots of cute ceramics ! Also dog friendly !
Charlotte De Vogelaere★★★★★
It's a very cozy little coffee shop with a lot of different options! It almost feels like an Indie game- the staff are very friendly and helpful, the drinks are delicious and look very aesthetically pleasing! I would definitely come again, the price is also very reasonable! it's six euros for a milkshake that's absolutely amazing! Love love love

A little cozy cafe with friendly staff. The lady staff speaks English and helpful. The coffee was good and I ordered two pieces of very pretty Normandy sweets. One made of almond while another is made of pistachio. For the indoor sitting area, there are two to three tables at ground floor and large sitting area in the upper floor. However, walking up needs skill. The steps nearer to the upper floor are getting smaller, haha. I managed to get some ME-time sitting at upper floor and did some happy reading. Please drop by if you are visiting Bayeux. This cafe is located right at the corner walking towards the Tourism office and Petite train station.
Elizabeth Baker★★★★★
Enjoyed a delicious lunch here and delighted to see a chai latte on the menu too - my favourite drink! The chai latte was perfectly made with the correct amount of spice but I was also spoilt for choice with the selection of signature drinks which looked great. Three of us went for the veggie and Mediterranean sandwiches whilst my daughter enjoyed her mars donut. Shame I was only in Bayeux for one day as I would be returning here as was so good. Very good veggie options.
Megan Green★★★★★
The staff was so sweet and didn't mind when I butchered the French words. He was very helpful, kind, and didn't make a fuss about us having our 6 small children with us. The food was delicious as well.

Lovely food, drinks, pastries, and vibes! Only a step away from the main street of Bayeux. Couldn’t have chose a better place to eat lunch and well within budget. Thank you so much!

Very nice and clean place, beautiful interior, everything is of good quality. The owners are very nice French family. I like good coffee shops and this one is worth the title. (Even of there is no filter coffee or V60). Will be back

We are so glad we found Fleurette, a beautiful charming cafe on the corner in Bayeaux. The owner Charlene and her family are lovely, you can see how they prepare each dish with care, colorful and seasonal ingredients! Our new favorite place for a summer lunch, afternoon hang out or a catch up for a play date with the park near by. Favorite time on their menu was the quinoa! You’ll be sure to love this place and the people there too.
DYJ1948★★★★★
Wonderful new restaurant on the corner with a nice open setting. The food is primarily lighter cold plates but sooo tasty. It’s family run and extremely friendly. It’s a combination boutique and a restaurant! It’s also very new having been open for only four days! The environment is bright and clean with an eclectic decor given that they also sell furnishings and dish ware. The prices are very reasonable with our plates varying between 15 and 27 euro’s which includes a choice of desserts. If you want fresh, healthy and lighter fare, this is perfect!
Dayo★★★★★
If you’re in Bayeux, make sure to visit Cary, a delightful café and lunch spot that also sells local products. Run by the lovely Caro Remy, the place has a hip, beautifully designed interior—a rarity in France, in my opinion. It’s perfect for grabbing a bite, enjoying a drink, or even working a bit in a relaxed, stylish setting. Highly recommend stopping by!

I had a cappuccino. They don't have proper machines and they didn't grind the coffee beans before preparation. They used a very very cheap deLonghi expresso machine and the milk was heated in the microwave. Not the most professional way to do a proper cup of coffee. I wouldn't mind because at home I have a similar setup but their execution was awful. The coffee was very bitter probably because it was not freshly ground and the milk was not creamy at all. Maybe their beans are good though, I saw they do have many sortiments.
Ianis Tamoud★★★★★
Cosy atmosphere of an authentic café serving delicious drinks and food (go for the homemade tarts and cakes)! A go-to when it is cold.

📍Bisette - Bayeux, France ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food: Breakfast Roll • A fantastic way to start the morning. • Loved the combination of Sriracha mayo and sautéed onions. • Filling without being too heavy. Black Sesame Cookie • Freshly baked and served warm. • Soft, chewy, and incredibly satisfying. • An absolute must-try if they have it available! Drinks: Pistachio Cappuccino • Absolutely delicious. • Rich, nutty, and perfectly balanced. • One of the best cappuccinos I had during our trip to France. Jonathan and I stopped here before heading out for a full day of exploring Normandy’s WWII sites. Everything was exactly what we were hoping for—a delicious breakfast, great coffee, and friendly service. We grabbed a small table outside and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of Bayeux while easing into the day. This ended up being one of our favorite breakfast stops of the trip, and I would happily return if I’m ever back in the area. Date Visited: 4/15/2026

Excellent espresso - freshly ground to perfection This is hands down the best coffee I've had in days. They use a quality espresso machine and grind the beans fresh for each cup, which makes all the difference. Highly recommend!

We tried to get into Selma Alabama about 1030 Sunday morning, butt they had a large group coming in and couldn't seat us without reservation. Bisette is very good. Friendly, speaks English, fast service despite being busy, fair pricing, and great food! Coffee is very good and not tiny. Parking our 9 passenger van wasn't difficult and the area is amazing... give yourself time to explore!

We were looking for someplace in Bayeux where we could get a salad so I searched on Google for “salad” and found nice photos and ratings for this place. That said, I would give the moyenne salad with jambon or saumon 3 stars. The quiche and salad combo was better at 4 stars. It was raining when we arrived into Bayeux mid-week and many visitors were running about looking for tables at restaurants. We were lucky to score seating for 3. The service is delightful and the team of 2 greeted, took orders, served, cleaned, made drinks, etc for the whole restaurant. So impressive. And the environment is so playful and fun.
Thilo Krawietz★★★★★
A quite small, but nevertheless very charming bistro. Food quality was first class, all ingredients were fresh and tasty. The owner is very nice and warm-hearted, prices are also okay in relation to quantity and quality. Location is in the immediate vicinity of the Bayeux cathedral which also offers a nice outlook. Full recommendation!

We stumbled on this place while exploring the beautiful town of Bayeux, Normandy. We immediately began to salivate when we looked through the windows at all the sweet and savory offerings. Oh my goodness! We decided on a 3 cheese quiche, croque monsieur, desserts, nuts, candies! They have been voted as having the best Normady croissant in 2025! A charming French patisserie with friendly and accomodating staff. They also have tea service during specific times.

I was passing by and on a whim decided to try them as their window display was enticing. I tried a chocolate mousse filled pastry with coffee icing that was delicious in every way! The pastry was light and crisp, the mousse was light yet chocolatey and icing matched well with the pastry and made a scrumptious after dinner dessert. I highly recommend them!

We went for a simple breakfast after a morning walk through Bayeux. They open early, and the proprietor is cheerful and helpful. The coffee was strong and flavorful, the hot chocolot was rich, delicious, and not too sweet. They also served the best croissants we ate in France. If you're in Bayeux put Le Phil Rouge on the top of your list.

Really good brunch, genuine crepes, and croque monsieur! Friendly service as well

After a day of sightseeing we came back to Bayeux knowing many restaurants would be closed. We happened across The Phil Rouge and stopped for a bite at about 20.00 when they close at 22.00 The young waiter was pleasant and we were informed there were no poke bowls whilst being seated. We ordered two Chicken Burgers with fries only then to be told they had run out of fries (cooked fres they say) so we're offered salads. Burgers were precooked and pre made just heated and salad was little more than leaves and shredded carrot. This is basic food which may or may not be available. We were informed the chips are cooked in the morning and if they run out it's tough, they will not make more. Unless you are desperate I wouldn't bother, others after us walked in and straight out. We were even charged for the Salad we didn't even order or want.

Visited at lunchtime today and so glad we did. We were welcomed by two friendly Ladies who spoke great English. The menu was nice and varied and also very well priced. My Wife opted for a cheese and ham omelette and I went for the meal of the day, beef, chips and vegetables. Both meals were very tasty and good size portions. The beef was beautiful, so moist and tender. Service was sharp and the Restaurant had a nice ambience. Thoroughly recommended ! 🙂✨️ Gary....

I have no idea who is rating this place anything less than a 5 star, but let me tell you - they’re wrong!! I ate the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had in my life here. I will come back to France just for that salad; and it’s a SALAD. My husband had the Normandy chicken and agreed, the best he’s had as well. Staff is kind, service was quick, and the atmosphere was exactly what you would expect. Shame on whoever gave less than 5 stars!

This is my second time in France. I had the Normandy chicken meal and my wife and I split the dessert of the day. This was one of the best meals I have had in France and abroad in general. Very friendly staff, especially as an American who does not speak the language. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back

Tips for Choosing the Right Café in Bayeux

A little local knowledge goes a long way when deciding where to stop. Bayeux is a compact town, but timing, location, and menu expectations can vary significantly from one establishment to the next. The following tips will help you match your mood and needs with the right address.

1. Mind the French meal hours.
Many cafés in Bayeux close their kitchens between lunch and dinner, typically from around 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. If you want a full meal or a hot dish in the late afternoon, check the service hours or opt for a spot known for continuous service. For coffee and pastries, you will generally find options all day, but savory food can be harder to come by mid-afternoon.

2. Look for the “formule” at breakfast and lunch.
Many traditional cafés and brasseries offer a set menu, or formule, that includes a hot drink, fresh orange juice, a pastry or tartine, and sometimes a small savory item. This is almost always better value than ordering items individually. Ask for the petit-déjeuner formula if you want a classic French start to the day.

3. Choose your terrace based on the time of day.
Bayeux’s main pedestrian street, Rue Saint-Malo, is charming but can become busy with tour groups around midday. If you prefer a quieter setting, look for cafés tucked into side streets, near the cathedral’s north side, or along the river. A shaded courtyard or a table set back from the main thoroughfare can make a significant difference to your comfort.

4. Don’t expect fast service during peak hours.
The pace of service in Bayeux is deliberately relaxed, especially at lunchtime and on market days. This is not a sign of poor service but a reflection of the local culture. Allow extra time, and if you are in a hurry, order at the counter or choose a spot known for quick coffee service rather than a full brasserie meal.

5. Cash is still appreciated in smaller spots.
While most cafés in the town center accept credit and debit cards, some smaller independent coffee shops or market-day stalls may have a minimum card spend or prefer cash for small purchases like a single espresso. Carrying a few euros in coins is a practical habit, especially if you plan to visit several places in one afternoon.

6. Look beyond the main street for local character.
Some of the most rewarding café experiences in Bayeux are found a two- or three-minute walk from the tapestry museum and cathedral. These places often serve a more local clientele, which is usually a good sign for quality and fair pricing. A short detour down a narrow lane can lead to a peaceful terrace overlooking a half-timbered courtyard.

7. Pair your coffee with a Norman specialty.
Rather than defaulting to a standard croissant, consider trying a regional treat. A slice of teurgoule, a cinnamon-scented rice pudding, or a shortbread from a nearby patisserie can turn a simple coffee break into a memorable local tasting. Some cafés also serve excellent apple juice and cider from nearby orchards, which pair beautifully with an afternoon pastry.

Finding your favorite café in Bayeux is part of the pleasure of visiting. The town’s scale means you can wander from the cathedral to the old mill district in a matter of minutes, sampling as you go. What stays with you is often not just the drink but the feeling of sitting still in a place that has welcomed travelers for centuries.

As you plan your days around the tapestry, the D-Day beaches, and the surrounding countryside, leave room in your schedule for an unhurried pause. Whether you are warming your hands around a bowl of café au lait on a misty morning or enjoying a cold glass of cider under a striped awning, the right café will make your time in Bayeux feel complete.
