12 Best Specialty Coffee Shops in Barcelona

Barcelona’s relationship with coffee has shifted dramatically over the last decade. What was once a city dominated by a quick shot of over-roasted espresso at a bustling bar is now home to a vibrant, global specialty coffee scene. For locals and travelers alike, finding a perfectly extracted flat white or a meticulously sourced pour-over is no longer a challenge; it is a delicious expectation.

The modern wave of specialty cafés in the Catalan capital is defined by more than just high-quality beans. It is a culture built on transparency, direct trade with farmers, and a deep respect for the craft of roasting. These spaces often blur the lines between a coffee bar, a design studio, and a community hub, offering a unique atmosphere that reflects the distinct personality of each neighborhood.

Navigating this thriving landscape can be overwhelming, especially when every corner seems to house a café with a sleek La Marzocco machine. To truly appreciate the city’s best offerings, one must look beyond the aesthetics and focus on the baristas’ expertise, the origin of the beans, and the overall sensory experience. It is about the precision of the water temperature, the texture of the milk, and the story behind the cup.

This guide focuses on establishments that consistently push the boundaries of quality in Barcelona. These are the places where the baristas compete in national championships, where the roasters experiment with anaerobic fermentation, and where the staff is genuinely excited to explain the flavor notes of a rare Geisha varietal. They represent the pinnacle of the city’s caffeine culture.

We have curated a list that spans the labyrinthine alleys of the Gothic Quarter, the tree-lined avenues of Eixample, and the bohemian streets of Gracia. Each location offers something unique, whether it is a signature espresso tonic, a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic, or an in-house bakery that rivals the best patisseries in the city.

Whether you are a seasoned coffee professional looking for a cupping session or a curious tourist seeking a reprieve from the standard Spanish café con leche, this list is for you. We have prioritized quality of extraction, consistency of service, and the sourcing ethics of the beans to bring you the definitive list of must-visit spots.

Below, you will find the definitive guide to the twelve best specialty coffee shops in Barcelona, carefully selected to satisfy even the most discerning palates.

A S★★★★★
The best coffee shop in Barcelona. A minimalist space, highly knowledgeable baristas, and an impressive selection of single-origin coffees from around the world. The attention to detail is evident in everything, from the coffee bar to the machinery to the brewing process to the presentation of the beans. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or just looking for an excellent flat white, Nomad delivers consistently exceptional quality. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates specialty coffee.
Abdulrahman Babgi★★★★★
Nomad coffee is an amazing place where you can really enjoy the perfect taste of coffee. This coffee shop considers as specialty coffee at Barcelona which is very difficult to find such great quality coffee here, however Nomad is made it nice. I highly highly highly recommend everyone plan to enjoy the taste of coffee, just pass this awesome place. Very special thanks to miss Mia for making a lovely coffee to me and really she made my experience here is wonderful
Leslie Meursault Chao★★★★★
I would give 100 stars if Google let me. I am a coffee lover and has been to some fine coffee bars, including some fancy ones in London, Paris and Stockholm, and Nomad is absolutely my Top 1 in Europe. The baristas have extremely professional skills and very nice to customers, it's a pleasure to enjoy the coffee at the bar and talk about coffee with the baristas. Most important thing, the price is very reasonable. I've been Barcelona twice and visited Nomad twice, and the coffee is always great, would visit here every time I travel to Barcelona.
An Le★★★★☆
Very specialized spot. We stick to the basics (cortados/cappuccinos), but you can tell they take their craft seriously. Tons of custom options and flavor profiles. It’s a cool, unique vibe—definitely worth a look if you’re a coffee diehard
Gabi★★★★★
During my stay in Barcelona, I visited this place three times! The coffee was delicious, there was a great variety to choose from, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Even with the queue, the waiting time was around 10 minutes at noon definitely worth it!

Lara Veljovic★★★★★
Coffee Casa is such a lovely spot! I got the vanilla iced latte and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly made. The service was amazing, and the owner Philip was incredibly kind. We ended up having such a nice conversation, which made the whole experience feel really welcoming and personal. I also spotted their new tiramisu iced latte, and it looks amazing, so I’ll definitely be back to try that next time. Highly recommend if you’re looking for great coffee and genuinely friendly service!
Tomi★☆☆☆☆
The place is very overrated, the coffee was mediocre quality, and the barista on 29.03.2026 was very unfriendly. The place was nice however.. If you want good quality specialty coffee, don't come here. UPDATE: In my opinion, your response reflects a lack of the attitude expected in the horeca industry. Instead of showing empathy, it focuses on explaining why the customer’s opinion is not valid. Professionals usually start with a simple “sorry” — not necessarily admitting fault, but acknowledging the guest’s experience. When you have a 4.8 rating and people come from across Barcelona specifically to visit your place, expectations are naturally high. Not meeting those expectations is disappointing, regardless of the technical explanation. In horeca, you are often judged by your worst day, not your best ones — and this might be one of those moments.
Onur Tırpan★★★★★
As I was trying to leave the store after adding sugar, the Lady offered me more sweet pumps which made my drink perfectly the way I like, which is unreasonably sweet for a coffee 🤣 very cute spot. Highly recommend.
Jacob Nomafo★★★★★
Brilliant, there was a line outside when I arrived… not suprised - it’s the best coffee in El Born. I would recommend the tiramisu latte, delicious! 👏
Carolina Oliveira★★☆☆☆
Edited review: always mistrust establishments who give you free food in exchange for 5 star rating. The waitress was super friendly to give me a free gluten free banana cake to go, I even tasted a sample it was ok (maybe the sample was fresher then the give away cakes), but then the free cake was soaked the bag in oil, tasted like 1 week old cake. Not worth it. The coffee was ok but you can find a lot better less than 5 min walking distance. "Super tasty banana cake that is also gluten free! Also grabbed the cold brew, super fresh and good quality coffee." This review no longer applies.

Really good coffee and very kind barista! Small shop, so recommend a takeaway.
Miroshi★★★★★
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My favorite morning routine! I loved coming here in the morning, even when tired, because I knew they serve the best coffee around. The croissants were also super delicious! The staff is always in a great mood and speaks fluent English, which is a huge plus. Highly recommended!
Germán Fernández-Moreno Plaza★★★★★
Nice cute little place with an extraordinary barista - client experience and a really well crafted and served Ethiopian coffee. ☕️ Obviously, a play to be enjoyed by coffee lovers.
Ali Massadi★★★★☆
Great coffee one type of roast the Colombia- fruity and acid but still so sweet. Limited seats available at the place, but the atmosphere is cozy and cool. Desserts looked good, BUT 😂 Took a peanut butter cookie was too heavy and sticky like having a whole peanut butter spoon in your mouth which affected the coffee taste for sure.
Felesteen★★★★★
Great experience at this coffee shop. Fabian, the barista, was incredibly kind and friendly. I wasn’t sure what to order, but he suggested a dirty chai and it was absolutely delicious. I also tried the chocolate chip banana bread, which was just as good. Highly recommend stopping by!

Flat white was fine - there was almost no acidity and the flavour was deeply concentrated. The milk was a bit overwhipped and overheated. Not the best coffee in Barcelona but still good. Very borderline 5 stars
Marcel Kopp★☆☆☆☆
Hello everyone, unfortunately not recommended. I like the Spanish serenity. But unfortunately I have to say that this is not possible. 3 counsellors out of 6 counsellors serve a woman who does not know what to drink. It was 12:14 noon. A client was taken care of by three people. I was the next turn. A number of people build up after her and after 5 minutes I left the store with nothing. Too bad, but that's not possible. Too bad that the review was not fully read and only half understood.
Steph★★★★★
my partner and i came in for our morning coffee and to buy a few bags of specialty roasted coffee beans. we ended up meeting the owner, who was incredibly kind, patient, and very passionate about coffee! he didn't hesitate to answer our questions and he was happy to share explanations about what made each roast special. you can clearly see how much thought and care went into every aspect of this shop! we would 100% come back again
Haşim Gezegen★★★★★
Apart from the best coffee I had in Barcelona this place has a broad coffee beans. This place has one more quality that I wasn’t expected. They have commandante c40 grinder below 50€ of amazon, so I bought one! They also have Timemore. If you’re interested homebrewing you should definitely check it out!!!

Had a flat white from Cafès El Magnífico, it was delicious! The place itself is incredible if you love coffee. Highly recommend a visit! ☕️

We had a brilliant experience at Mito Specialty Coffee yesterday. From the start, the vibe was so welcoming by Carlos the owner, incredibly personable and genuinely happy to host us. It’s rare to find such great hospitality to match such a brilliant cup of coffee. The coffee was fantastic, poured perfectly into these chocolate covered cup cons with great flavour. Can't recommend this place enough. 5/5
Blanca Arizmendi Mata★★★★★
I have been on the hunt for chai that reminds me of my favorite place back at home and so far this has been my favorite place yet! I got an iced chai with caramel syrup, whip cream, and cinnamon sugar. Incredibly sweet just the way I like it. Barista was really sweet as well trying to understand my order. Will definitely be back!
Carola Vasquez★★★★★
The taste of this coffee is just on point! I love to begin my day passing by MITO and get the right amount of caffeine in my body. I 100% recommend it. Also, the barista it’s very kind and friendly, nice to have a chat with!
Amanda Galimberti★★★★★
Amazing coffee with fair prices. The place is super cozy and welcomes you to get in and you also have lovely coffee cups you can buy with chocolate inside for your coffee to go and enjoy the flavour 😍 As Italian, I’d definitely go back!!
Mario Del Prete★★★★★
My go-to spot for coffee in Barcelona. They serve an excellent blend and a perfectly made Italian-style short espresso. The place is mainly designed for takeaway, as there is no outdoor seating, but it’s ideal for a quick stop before work or during a walk along Consell de Cent. Carlos, the barista, is always professional, friendly and open for a nice chat. A true quality pit stop to start the day right.

I got the matcha and cold brew. The matcha was one of the best tasting matcha’s in the area hands down and the cold brew was so smooth and a perfect sip. The owner is so kind and welcoming us in, if you are in the area swing by and know you’ll be getting a delicious drink!
Lee Krystelle Joy Espinosa★★★★★
Had such a lovely time at this cozy cafeteria! The croissant was perfectly fresh and flaky, the Oreo cake was rich and absolutely delicious, and the iced coffee was super refreshing. Everything tasted amazing and the atmosphere was really nice too. Definitely a spot I’d come back to again! ☕🥐🍰

Great coffee! Krysha was so nice and the A/C is so refreshing in this crazy heat. Iced latte, oat milk👌🏾

I go here often and the man and woman are very friendly and welcoming. They serve good coffee. I am learning about speciality coffee and already knew the local brand and it’s quite nice. They have nice pastries and it’s a chill atmosphere and a nice place to relax with not too much noise. The best part is they have competitive prices to places near by. I def support them.

Great place to get your caffeine fix while walking around the city. Lovely barista. The Tokyo Smart Coffee was really good and so was the iced matcha latte. You can also buy beans here to make your own coffee at home. Overall, lovely experience. Highly recommended 👍🏼

Super yummy coffee!! I would come here every morning if I lived in Barcelona! Friendly service, and a cute walk if your on the way to the Main Street to shop💚
Christian Bieck★★★★★
Amazing coffee for a very small price. The baristas could speak in English and Spanish which made ordering easy. The quality of the coffee was amazing. If I would live in Barcelona I would come here anytime I needed a coffee to go.
Omar Alkharji★★★★★
Stopped by RIPA Coffee in Barcelona for coffee and really enjoyed the experience. The cappuccino was smooth, rich, and perfectly prepared with great latte art. The café has a modern and minimalist atmosphere, and the bright yellow counter gives the place a unique and vibrant character. Friendly staff, quality specialty coffee, and a relaxed vibe made it a great stop while exploring the city. Definitely recommended for coffee lovers in Barcelona.
choke ong★★★★★
Just the right balance — tried both filter and espresso, and they were both on point. So glad I found this spot after a week in Spain. Definitely a new favorite! Great coffee at a very fair price — around €14 per bag, which is excellent for the quality. Loved the vibe of the shop, good music, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service. Definitely a place I’d recommend and would happily come back to.

Exceptional. *edit - Owner is Guatemalan, flys there during harvest season to gather coffee beans on his family farm & then brings them back to Barcelona to roast them. Amazing space & vibe. An absolute must if you are a coffee enthusiast. Would be worth an expensive uber trip. It’s also 4 minute walk from Sagrada Família….
Jas★★★★★
Started our morning here and it was the perfect way to kick off the day. The barista was incredibly pleasant and welcoming, and you could tell he genuinely cared about his craft. Every cup was made with attention to detail, and the coffee was excellent. The café itself is small, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a cosy, thoughtfully designed space with a really cool atmosphere. Great coffee, friendly service, and a lovely start to the morning. Do yourself a favour and skip the big coffee chains, come here instead. You’ll get a far better cup of coffee and an experience with much more character.
Roy Thuy★★★★★
A great owner, that knows his coffee and what people like and don't like. Giving you the exact chai or coffee you like. Also you can buy different coffee beans and grinds them for you. As a perfect gift for your friends or family. I am definitely coming back!
Felix Ostermeier★★★★★
Wonderful owner, very friendly, courteous, and helpful. Knows a lot about coffee and is incredibly generous. He even let me use his personal cup, even though it's a to-go coffee. I highly recommend this shop. Next time I'm in Barcelona, I'll definitely stop by again. Thank you for the great time.
Andreea Mihai★★★★★
They have a very good, specialty coffee, you can really feel the aromas of the coffee even if you get a Batch Brew or a Flat White. The barista makes an amazing coffee, and the whole staff is very friendly. Unfortunately they don't have much space to drink the coffee there but you can take it to go and enjoy Barcelona and a good coffee.

Everything is so great at this cafe. The food, coffee, service and the ambience. They have an artists’ collective that encourages and promotes local artists. They sell little postcards and art sourced from the workshops they conduct. The baristas that worked there were very friendly and hospitable. They made sure I was comfortable and brought water to me regularly. The conversation I had with Emma was great and very positive. Overall, a great place to support a local business owned by an immigrant.
Clive Rose★★★★★
Sunday morning stroll looking for a café that's a) open and b) has a little character, when we stumbled on this absolute gem. Lovely coffee, excellent granola/yoghurt/fruit bowl and great music playing in the background. Loads of other food options we only spotted as we were sitting on the brilliant bench out front, with its yellow wellies, as we watched the street wake up around us. We'll make time in our remaining 3 days to come back.
Stephen Weller★★★★★
Super cute coffee shop cafe, tucked away in Carrer d’Avinyo. Calm & artsy vibe, with cool artwork on the walls. Had a lovely coffee (Cardamom….yum!), and really friendly, smiley service. Very happy to have found it!
Mikael Bueno da Silveira★★★★★
If you are in Barcelona, this place is a must stop to have a good coffee and a good beer from Spain. I tried the El Camino IPA, from the Basqueland brewery and it was perfect, simply delicious. The director of the place is very friendly and the atmosphere is great! Definitely worth a visit!
Cammellia★★★★★
The perfect place to relax or get some work done. The coffee is absolutely delicious, rich in flavor and made with great attention to detail. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and always make you feel comfortable. I also loved the interior design very cozy and stylish. It’s definitely a place I’d come back to again and again. Lujzi★★★☆☆
Small coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating. The food and coffee were decent, but neither really stood out. The coffee had a barista-style touch, though it still felt like something was missing for my taste.
Cinzia Tsn★★★★★
Cutest café, with fantastic coffee and great prices! On our trip to Barcelona we wanted to check out different cafes but we liked this place that much that we had to come back every morning. Coffee tastes amazing, you can sit outside and enjoy the sun in the morning and the owner is very sweet and friendly. Big recommendation 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
Yanic Small★★★★★
There aren't many specialty coffee shops in Clot that also roast their own beans. This one is absolutely fantastic. The flat white was so smooth with a great mouth feel. The assortment of origins is also wonderful. The barista/owner also is also very knowledgeable about the profiles of each origin, and recommending which to get based on your preference. I'll definitely be back!

We are really happy this has opened in our neighbourhood. A great local with delicious coffee, teas, croissants, sandwiches etc. The quality is fantastic, and you can see a lot of care goes into his craft of coffee and making the pastries. It is extremely well priced.

The best quality and affordable coffee! I go here literally every week, it’s that good! This chain deserves more recognition 💯👏

Called itself speciality coffee but selling coffee made by AUTOMATIC machine. OMG why should i spend €3.25 for what i can get in the office for free? The machine ruins whatever good beans you get.

I love this cute take away coffee shop! It’s right up the street from Hospital Clinic metro. They have very friendly staff and make great specialty coffee. My go-to is their flat white, but they have a wide list of offerings along with seasonal flavored coffee drinks.

This coffee shop is absolutely phenomenal!!! The coffee was perfection, the food was delicious, and the service was top notch. It’s only about a 3 minute walk from Sagrada Família. You must try if you’re visiting Barcelona!

Choose this over the tourist traps with the inflated reviews nearer La Sagrada Familia! Empanadas, ciabattas, a ridiculously tasty hazelnut alfajor and great coffee. You can even sit outside. Beautiful
humaira zaman★★★★★
The bakery was lovely , and the staff were kind and helpful. We sat outside and the view and scenery was great. I recommend the argentinian sweet ( you can ask them). For drinks i would recommend the matcha. Gracias!
Whitney O'Halek★★★★★
I loved everything about this place! It was the perfect spot for a quick snack and coffee before we visited the Sagrada Familia. My 1.5 year old daughter loved her “baby-ccino,” and I would come back for that salted caramel latte every day if I lived here! The service and food were amazing, too!

Essential Tips for Enjoying Specialty Coffee in Barcelona

To make the most of your coffee journey through the Catalan capital, it helps to understand the local customs and how they intersect with the specialty movement. While the city is incredibly welcoming, a little insider knowledge will ensure you get the best possible cup and experience the culture like a true local.

First, adjust your timing expectations. While many specialty cafés now open early to serve commuters, the traditional Spanish breakfast hour is later than in Northern Europe or the US. If you want a quiet, relaxed experience to chat with the barista about the beans, aim for opening time or the mid-afternoon lull. Avoid the 11:00 AM rush, which is peak breakfast time for locals.

Second, learn the local terminology, even if you are ordering a "flat white." While baristas in specialty shops speak English, knowing that café solo is an espresso and café con leche is closer to a latte can help you navigate menus. If you want a large black coffee, ask for an Americano or a batch brew, as the traditional café solo is quite small and intense.

Third, don’t be afraid to ask about the "coffee of the day" or the "guest filter." The best shops rotate their single-origin offerings frequently. Baristas are usually eager to guide you toward a coffee that matches your preference, whether you love bright, acidic, fruity notes or prefer a chocolatey, nutty, full-bodied profile. Trust their expertise and be open to trying a processing method you haven’t had before.

Fourth, consider the water. Barcelona has very hard tap water, which is why specialty cafés invest heavily in reverse osmosis filtration systems to re-mineralize water for optimal extraction. This is a hallmark of a serious shop. You will notice the difference in clarity and sweetness in your cup compared to standard venues.

Finally, pair your coffee with the local food culture where possible. Many of the best specialty shops in Barcelona now bake their own pastries in-house, offering unique twists on the traditional croissant or the Catalan xuixo. Don’t just grab a coffee to go; sit down, order a pastry, and enjoy the atmosphere. It is an integral part of the Barcelona specialty experience.

The specialty coffee scene in Barcelona is not just a trend; it is a permanent fixture of the city’s modern identity. It represents a shift toward mindful consumption, where quality trumps quantity and the story of the farmer is just as important as the skill of the barista. Exploring these cafés offers a unique way to see the city, moving from the historic center to the innovative outer districts one cup at a time.

As you wander from one café to the next, you will notice a common thread of passion and hospitality. These spaces invite you to slow down, savor the moment, and connect with the people around you. Whether you are seeking the perfect espresso or simply a beautiful place to rest your feet, Barcelona’s specialty coffee shops offer a warm welcome and an unforgettable taste of the city’s creative spirit.
