12 Best Seafood Restaurants in Málaga

Málaga’s relationship with the Mediterranean is not just about sun and sand; it is deeply culinary. The city’s coastal location provides a daily influx of fresh seafood that shapes its menus, from humble beachfront shacks to refined urban dining rooms. Eating fish here is not a luxury reserved for special occasions; it is a way of life that connects locals to the sea.

The traditional preparation methods in Málaga highlight simplicity. Rather than masking flavors with heavy sauces, chefs rely on high-quality olive oil, a squeeze of lemon, and the natural salinity of the catch. This approach, often involving a quick fry or a gentle roast, allows the freshness of the seafood to remain the undisputed star of the plate.

However, the dining scene is far from static. Alongside the classic espetos—sardines skewered and grilled over open fires on the beach—you will find innovative chefs experimenting with modern techniques. This blend of time-honored tradition and contemporary creativity makes Málaga a dynamic destination for food lovers.

Navigating the sheer volume of dining options can be overwhelming for visitors. From the bustling streets near the Atarazanas Market to the quieter corners of Pedregalejo, every neighborhood offers a different take on seafood. Knowing where to go ensures you avoid tourist traps and experience the authentic flavors that locals crave.

Whether you are looking for a plate of perfect fried anchovies (boquerones), a steaming bowl of rice with lobster, or simply a cold glass of wine paired with some clams, this guide has you covered. We have curated a list that spans budgets and styles, ensuring there is something for every type of traveler.

Below, you will find the definitive selection of the best seafood restaurants in Málaga. We have prioritized places that demonstrate consistency, use high-quality ingredients, and provide a dining experience that respects the maritime heritage of the Costa del Sol.

Amazing place with fresh and delicious seafood at a decent price! You can easily get a variety of items here since they offer small portions too on their menu which I love. We came here for lunch first then decided to come back for dinner on the same day because we just really wanted to get more seafood. We loved all items we ordered (was going to list a few but then realized I'd just end up listing all of them). This place won't go wrong for seafood lovers.

This place is so good - from the moment we walked in the energy was good, staff were engaging and service was quick! The guy who served us was a star ⭐️ and we communicated in Spanglish. The food was delicious, 😋 I’m not a huge fan of seafood ;I know, I know) but there are still options if you prefer other things. However, my friend had prawns in garlic and they were delicious, fresh and tasty, as was the rest of the food. The Russian salad was top tier, incredible, I’d fly back to Malaga for some tomorrow if I could. Basically go there, it’s so good 😊 staff, atmosphere, food and interiors

Our first day in Málaga and it was raining. So we had only one thing to do: have a nice lunch. Great fresh fish, amazing octopus and good wine are the ingredients that saved our day. Everything is too tasty and fresh. Absolutely a gem.

We LOVED this place! We were looking for a local vibe with fried calamari. We bought the plate of fried calamari and the “boat” of fried mixed seafood/fish. It was brimming with all kinds of fish and seafood and a fun surprise: baby sardines! We loved it!

Everything I ate was really good. Everything I saw made me want to come back to try more. Huge menu and excellent service and quality. I will definitely return on my next trip to Málaga.

Long wait for normal food. Nothing was out of the ordinary. The chicken paella was the only thing I recommend. Ah, and the Argentinean cake. The empanada was too oily. The fried calamari too oily and tasteless. The crema catalan wasn't that good. The service was nice though.
Nourin Gani★★★★★
Fantastic food with brilliant customer service. The Gambi pil pil is sensational. We ordered the seafood paella which was so flavourful! We went there around 10pm and didnt get seated until 10.35pm, so plan ahead as this place is SUPER busy and popular.
Mattia Casabianca★★★★★
Pro-tip: come early. They don't accept bookings, and you might have to queue outside and wait for a place. But honestly? That's so worth it. We loved everything here. The service is very professional and well behaved. They also speak a bunch of different languages and excellent English, making communication really easy. The food was delicious.

We were walking in the old town of Malaga looking for a restaurant for lunch. Most of the restaurants are very busy including Los Marangos. But we saw the paellas look very delicious on some customers’ tables. We decided to have our lunch there. It turned out to be an excellent decision. We ordered a Paella de Mariscos and two glasses of Sangria. The Sangria is perfectly mixed and very refreshing. Good size and beautiful looking. The Seafood Paella is delicious. It has lots of seafood and the rice is perfectly cooked. We received excellent and attentive service. We chose indoor dining and the dining room is comfortable. We had a very enjoyable lunch.

We visited here for lunch on our visit to the historic centre of Málaga. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the Cathedral, and it has a relaxed atmosphere that’s ideal for a break with some traditional Andalusian food and drinks. We shared a few tapas and enjoyed the delicious Seafood Paella, which I highly recommend. Everything was fresh and nicely prepared, and the friendly service made it an easy place to slow down and enjoy the afternoon before continuing to explore Málaga.

The best seafood place in Malaga! Fairly priced friendly owner! Be sure to book a table here!

Fresh daily catch. Not fancy but great atmosphere. Plenty of locals enjoying a lunch out. Highly recommended for casual lunch and excellent fresh seafood. Better to be there early as it gets busy.
Maja Mitrovic★★★★★
Great sea food. They even have one waiter that know English. Inside everything was reserved, but you can sit outside if you don’t have a reservation. If everything is full, you can order a drink and wait a little bit until someone finish. Super kind stuff, everything was excellent.
Hue Ly★★★★★
We were here after a day at the beach of Malaga. We found this place on google because the reviews were quite good. And we weren’t disappointed. The food was so good, everything was so fresh. It is recommended to make a reservation before hand because this place is quite crowded. I guess it’s a more local experience. You have a variety of sea food to choose from. The service guy was very friendly and explained everything to us because the menue was only in Spanish with only the names of the fishes/mussles/etc. the shrimps were sweet and tasted to fresh. The fried fishes were good and juicy. I can recommend this places. Very good.
Wong Joanne★★★★★
Fantastic seafood and the best tuna steak I’ve ever had! Grilled baby squid (chipirones) and medium prawns are highly recommended. Very friendly service with English explanations since there’s no menu and they are very accommodating with our toddler. Yes you cannot pay by card so be well prepared. Nearest ATM is 2 mins walk away.

The restaurant is tucked away in a small alley and is always packed. I recommend making a reservation in advance, or you’ll end up waiting a long time. The food is delicious, and the seafood is fresh and plentiful. If you visit, I highly recommend trying their local sangria.

Great seafood restaurant in Malaga, we had dinner here during our visit to Malaga, we had made a reservation at a different location but mistakenly arrived here instead. The staff were kind enough to let us stay. The seafood were very fresh. and all the dishes ordered were tasty. Would recommend to try when traveling in Malaga.
Razvan Ristea★★★★☆
Good paella but pretty expensive. The restaurant is on a narrow street opposite a large building, therefore you will have no nice view and cheerful vibe. Maybe it is suitable for an intimate dinner
Brandon Sims★★★★☆
A nice seafood delight. Everyone ordered something different and each fish had great flavor and cooked well. The vegetables weren’t the freshest, but still good. Salmon, sole, kingfish, squid all unique I their own way. The paella was quite tasty, and savoring the langoustines on top was a treat. Thank you.

Seafood are very fresh and portion are biggg Definitely will come again. Sangria must order!

Juan R. Diaz, MFT★★★★★
I've learned that the best seafood restaurants are those that let the quality of the catch speak for itself. La Cantina in Málaga is a perfect example of this philosophy. From the moment you arrive, it's clear that seafood is the heart and soul of the restaurant. The selection is exceptional, with an impressive variety of fresh fish and shellfish prepared with respect for the ingredients and traditional Mediterranean techniques. Whether you prefer grilled fish, succulent prawns, clams, octopus, oysters or any of the daily specialties, every dish showcases freshness, impeccable execution, and authentic flavor. What makes the experience even more memorable is the outstanding hospitality of the three brothers, the owners. Their passion for the restaurant is evident in every detail, from their warm welcome to their expert recommendations on both the seafood and the perfect wine pairings. They create the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel less like a customer and more like a guest at a family table. The wine list is carefully selected to complement the seafood beautifully, making each course even more enjoyable. La Cantina captures everything that makes Málaga's culinary scene so special: exceptional seafood, honest cooking, genuine hospitality, and an atmosphere that invites you to linger over a great meal. If you're looking for one of the finest seafood experiences in Málaga, this is a restaurant you should not miss. Highly recommended.
Christina Samara★★★★★
Loved this place! It's located away from the touristic centre of Málaga and it offers an authentic food experience, serving some of the freshest seafood I've ever had! Whatever you try is delicious and fresh and the owners are very helpful and friendly. We paid around 85€ for 2 people (beers included) for 3 seafood plates and the tuna tomato plate. We were very full and satisfied. Payment by card is possible
Jenny Tan★★★★★
If you are looking for local authentic seafood… look nowhere else. We are couple from USA, but born in China. We love good seafood and found them here. Everyone works there are super nice, especially Christopher(I think that is his name). He recommended our whole dinner and everything tasted amazing. We will miss this place, but hopefully be back again someday with our adult kids. Malaga最棒的海鲜#1!
Mr Creasote★★★★★
Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It’s tucked away in an alley well away from the touristic historical part of Malaga. We went at a quiet time just after 1pm but it already had quite a few locals there going for the oysters, tiger prawns etc. We picked from the fish menu with a bit of help from our waiter and were not disappointed, the grilled Octopus especially nice along with baked cod and sprats as we call them. Accompanied by a tomato salad in olive oil and all washed down with a nice Crianza. The deserts too were very good and price wise not too bad considering the quality. Would definitely return to this restaurant if we visit Malaga again.
Chris James★★★★★
Everything about this restaurant was perfect. Wonderful fresh and authentic food served by people who were genuinely friendly and welcoming. We were the only tourists in the restaurant. The atmosphere was lively and fun and the decor functional and unpretentious. If you visit Malaga you really should make the effort to try something a bit different (and in our view better) than a standard tourist restaurant

you’re looking for incredibly fresh fish and outstanding flavors, El Navío is an absolute must! Every dish we tried was cooked to perfection, bursting with taste, and clearly made from the freshest seafood. The service was 10/10 – attentive, friendly, and made us feel truly welcome. To top it all off, they served a mandarin sorbet that was absolutely amazing – light, refreshing, and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great food and exceptional service. Can’t wait to come back!

The food is delicious, also the service and the waitress are great. One of the best fish restaurants where I ate. 10/10
Nika Fričová★★★★★
After visiting this place, I honestly do not understand the 1 🌟 rating below. The food was very good and the price really acceptable for sea food. Waiters are educated, know what they offer and they can provide you a nice explanation. I enjoyed the place and believe that I will come back soon. Btw seeing a hating comment from a person that obviously does not even exist is sad. Another thing which is very sad, is seeing 1 🌟 rating from a person who believes that 100 montaditos has 5 🌟 s because of their good teamwork. Yeah they have to have good teamwork, because the only thing they do is to call a name of a person who asked for food. Good job 100 montaditos!!

What a fantastic meal from start to finish. To start I have nuestras gambas pil pil and my wife had langostinos chicanes en panko which honestly were nothing short of incredible. For mains I have entrecot de vaca which was cooked to perfection and my wife had paella mixta featuring chicken, clam, muscles, king prawn and langoustine. Both exceptional The staff could not have been any more helpful and service was 5 stars Price average to slightly high but the meal was well worth it Would highly recommend the best meal and ambience in Malaga. Get there as quickly as possible.
Vanessa Pires★★★★★
No struggle to eat here with celiac disease, several gluten free options. The shrimps were super yummy with the little garlic chips. The paella was good as well but I like when there’s crispy edges, this was softer in texture. Nice lunch though!
Christian Breitkreutz★★★★☆
Nice Andalusian restaurant in the commercial center of Malaga. If you want it a bit quieter you should aim for a different area. But this place is nice, especially when you aim for paella. As in most places: paellas are only served to 2+ people. If you travel alone you will have a hard time finding a paella restaurant
Malgorzata J.★★★★★
Puerto Cristal is an absolute gem. The prawn croquettes were outstanding — perfectly crispy on the outside, rich and full of flavour inside. Honestly, some of the best croquettes I’ve ever eaten. Beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. A must-try if you’re here. Absolutely top level.
Philip★★★★☆
A very cute restaurant with a nice atmosphere and friendly service. The paella was okay, but not particularly impressive in terms of flavor. Overall a decent experience, with some room for improvement in the food.

Eduardo Diaz★★★★☆
We visited Taberna Casa Vicente while in Málaga. As expected from a seafood restaurant, the menu is quite varied with many seafood options to choose from. The atmosphere was very nice and lively. We went at night and the outdoor seating area was completely full, while the inside was much quieter. The service was excellent: attentive, friendly, and very welcoming. We ordered the cod, and unfortunately that dish was disappointing. The fish had a freezer/refrigerated taste that made it difficult to fully enjoy, even though the sauce itself was absolutely delicious. Because of that experience, I have to rate the food lower based specifically on the dish we tried. I can’t say whether the rest of the menu is the same, and it’s very possible we were simply unlucky with this particular order. The restaurant had actually been recommended to us by friends, so if you are in Málaga and looking for seafood, it may still be worth trying for yourself and ordering something different from the menu. If you visit, leave a review and let others know your experience too.
Simon Pratley★★★★★
I absolutely love this restaurant. Casa Vicente is a true hidden gem! My wife and I ordered the grilled cuttlefish and clams, wow! Every bite was bursting with the authentic flavours of Andalucía. The food was fresh, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. What made the experience even more special was the incredible hospitality. Our waiter, Juan, was attentive, friendly, and made us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. That level of genuine service is something you don't come across every day. We also had the pleasure of meeting Vicente, the owner, who happened to be sitting nearby. After overhearing us talking about how much we were enjoying the food, he introduced himself and proudly showed us around the restaurant, explaining the stories behind the photos and decorations. His passion for his restaurant and Andalucían culture was infectious, and he made us feel like welcomed guests rather than customers. As if out lunch couldn't get any better, we were lucky enough to be dining alongside a well known local singer from Andalucía. She was enjoying lunch with family and friends and, at one point, began to sing. Her beautiful voice and infectious energy created a magical atmosphere that we'll never forget. Thank you, Vicente, Juan, Paco in the kitchen and all the staff, for making our visit to Casa Vicente and to Andalucía such a memorable experience. We can't wait to return!

Delicious Gambas pil pil and superb white wine! Bintou is such a lovely girl and made me feel comfortable while travelling solo. I will be back to try more 🙂

Surprised. Not fun. First of all it's pretty expensive compare to size of the portions. Second... Bread. Was given like a compliment but counted in the check. And absolutely not cheap. Food without soul. Was in other places much better and more affordable. Sad. 60€ for nothing...

We had the gambas al pil pil and they were absolutely delicious! I’d recommend getting a bit more bread to dip into the sauce :)) The service was quick and our waiter was very friendly. It’s a good place for seafood!

A very nice restaurant, which is clearly elevated by its Ambient and service personnel. The food tasted great, i felt like i as a customer was the attention and everything was done for my liking. I couldn't speak fluently spanish, cause i am still learning it, but we had no problem to communicate. After every course we had new forks and knives. The wine was very good and also the water was well tempered. I would eat here again and recommend this locale to every one who wants a special meal.
Stephen Sheets★★★★★
A perfect lunch. Do yourself a favor and have the menu - it’s beautifully extensive - a very complete journey through local fish and shellfish. I ate so absurdly well. The quality level of all the food is at the highest level. My only regret is that I didn’t have stomach capacity for more of their delicious bread served with cordobés olive oil. Only one small quibble - kind of a limited selection of wine by the glass.

Restaurante Hermanos Alba has not only met but exceeded our expectations for what dining in Malaga should be. It's a culinary seafood gem that we'll be sure to visit again! 🦪🦑 Stepping into this restaurant, we were immediately embraced by the warm atmosphere that promised an unforgettable culinary journey. The standout dishes of our meal were the grilled calamari, angler fish, and clams. Each dish was a harmonious blend of simplicity and sophistication, allowing the quality of the ingredients to shine through. Alongside the exceptional cuisine, the service and the staff were very attentive, showcased their professionalism and passion for hospitality. 🍽️

Starts slow but give it time… Ended up enjoying our time at La Pirateria. Location overlooks the beach and offers great people watching. It was a rainy day so we found a table under cover. Let’s talk food and drink. The Paella we chose was the ‘Secreto Iberico’ (pork) and it was awesome!! So full when done😎 The wine list is very good as was the beer options. Our server was spot on, friendly and personable. Highlight of our stay in Malaga.
Maryana Svirchuk★★★★☆
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, always willing to accommodate our needs. The service was attentive, and the food was quite tasty. We had a very pleasant experience and would gladly come back.

We had the most wonderful time at La Piratería!! Antonio José and everyone in the restaurant were so helpful and friendly and the food was unbelievable! We had the croquettes and lots of delicious shrimp and steak as well. Every dish we had we couldn’t stop raving about and we had the most amazing people serving us! Would definitely recommend!!!

Food is good, like the pedron pepper and smoked mussels. Chiken Paella is good as well but too much tomato for my taste.

Oysters were perfect. Other original dishes were also very good - some special tuna and salmon with orange mayo - nice to try new flavors. Nice service, prices are ok considering this type of food is not cheap. Asked for house white wine and it was also eqsquisite - not sour at all, cold refreshing. Able to seat outside. All perfect.
Sasha Wong★★★★★
The best oysters we found in Málaga! The oysters were incredibly fresh, large, juicy, and absolutely delicious. We each had seven oysters before dinner because they were just that good. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated her recommendations, they were spot on. If you love oysters and are looking for something fresh and high quality, this is a must-visit. I honestly found the oysters here even fresher than those at the local market. Highly recommended!
Asia Malachowska★★★★★
La Medusa is an absolutely recommendable place. During our stay in Malaga we visited it several times. Everything was delicious. The portions were not large, which was actually a plus for us because it meant we could try different dishes each time. The service was very friendly. Time seems to slow down for a moment in this place. We will definitely come back!
Parisa Gbn★★★★★
We enjoyed oysters here on our last day in Málaga for our final lunch, and they were absolutely delicious. They were incredibly fresh, perfectly chilled, and paired beautifully with the wine. It was the perfect way to end our trip, and I would definitely come back.

There are times I don't want to write a review because I hope to keep a restaurant to myself. Such a special spot in a city ((where I live part time) that is full of restaurants that are full of tourists), but I must share. Incredible oysters, champagne, caviar and dishes. Amazing staff & service. I savor every bite.

Tips for Choosing the Best Seafood in Málaga

Selecting the right restaurant is only half the battle; knowing what to order and when to go can elevate your experience significantly. The local dining culture has specific rhythms and unspoken rules that, once understood, will help you eat like a resident rather than a visitor. Use these guidelines to ensure you get the freshest plates at the right prices.

1. Look for "Pescaíto Frito" Specialization
If a restaurant specializes in pescaíto frito (fried fish), you are likely in good hands. This is the local art of frying small fish, like anchovies or baby squid, in a light, crispy batter. A dedicated fryer ensures the oil is hot and clean, resulting in a dry, non-greasy texture that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

2. Embrace the Lunch Menu (Menú del Día)
To experience high-quality seafood without the premium dinner prices, visit during lunchtime (usually 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM). Many of the best kitchens offer a fixed-price menu that includes a starter, a main course of fresh fish, dessert, and a drink. It is the most cost-effective way to sample a restaurant’s standards.

3. Check the Daily Catch Board
Avoid ordering from a static menu blindly. The best establishments have a "fish of the day" selection displayed on a board or a chilled counter. Look for bright eyes and red gills if you are viewing the whole fish. Ask the waiter how they recommend preparing the catch that day; often, "a la espalda" (butterflied and grilled) or "a la sal" (baked in salt) is the best choice.

4. Venture to Pedregalejo or El Palo
The city center is convenient, but for the most atmospheric dining, head east to the neighborhoods of Pedregalejo or El Palo. These former fishing villages are lined with merenderos and beachfront restaurants. Here, you can watch the boats come in and enjoy sardine skewers (espetos) cooked over sand-pit fires right on the beach.

5. Understand Seasonal Availability
While modern supply chains mean most fish are available year-round, local species have peak seasons. For example, sardines are best in the summer months, while clams and other shellfish are often at their peak in the cooler months (months containing an "r"). Asking your server what is in season demonstrates savvy and ensures the best flavor.

6. Pair with Local Wines
Skip the generic sangria and ask for a dry white wine from the Málaga or Sierras de Málaga DO. Wines like Pedro Ximénez (dry style, not just sweet) or a crisp Muscatel pair beautifully with fried fish and seafood, cutting through the richness and enhancing the saltiness.

The beauty of eating seafood in Málaga lies in its variety and accessibility. Whether you are sitting on a sun-drenched terrace overlooking the Mediterranean or tucked away in a bustling tapas bar near the market, the connection between the plate and the ocean is always palpable. Take your time, order slowly, and enjoy the rhythm of the meal as the locals do.
