Lille has a way of making you look up. Beyond the ornate Flemish facades and the bustling cobblestone streets of Vieux-Lille, a different world exists above the city’s skyline. The rise of the rooftop café has transformed how locals and visitors alike experience this northern French capital.
Finding the perfect elevated spot is about more than just the coffee; it is about the atmosphere, the view, and the unique perspective of the city. From hidden terraces overlooking the Opera House to modern perches with views of the Beffroi, the options are surprisingly diverse.
Whether you are looking for a sun-drenched brunch spot, a quiet corner to work remotely, or a vibrant bar to watch the sunset, Lille has a terrace for you. The city’s relatively low-rise architecture means that even a few floors up can offer panoramic, uninterrupted vistas.
The best rooftops here blend the warmth of a traditional estaminet with a cosmopolitan, modern edge. You will find specialty coffee roasters, craft cocktail bars, and bistronomic kitchens all vying for the best view of the sky.
In this guide, we have curated the essential elevated addresses in the city. We have considered the quality of the beverages, the comfort of the seating, and, most importantly, the quality of the view.
Prepare to discover where the stylish crowd goes to see and be seen, and where you can find a moment of peace above the urban hustle. Here are the best spots to elevate your café experience in Lille.

I celebrated my birthday in Mesa and it was fabulous. The restaurant is beautiful, very trendy and vibrant. My friends and I had a wonderful time there as everything was lovely. I definitely will go back if I am
In town.
Adrian Murariu★★★☆☆
We visited Mesa for a company dinner, hoping to enjoy a memorable evening with our international colleagues in a stylish setting. While the location itself is stunning and full of potential, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations.
First, we encountered some difficulty entering the parking area—our car had different license plates than those provided during the reservation. We tried calling the restaurant for assistance, but unfortunately received no clear help. The response was, “I have to check with my manager”, while a line of cars formed behind us, in the street. A more proactive and customer-focused approach would have made a big difference.
Once on the terrace, some colleagues waited over 20 minutes to receive their cocktails. The terrace itself is lovely, offering great views over Lille and a wide variety of drinks—but the wait time left a poor first impression.
Dinner was served indoors, but the table setup (an “U” shape) made group conversation difficult. It felt like form had been chosen over function, which didn’t suit a corporate dinner.
The food, however, was very good—nicely presented and well-cooked. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in its work.
Overall, Mesa shines with its atmosphere, terrace, and live music, but the service needs refinement to match the level of the venue. It’s also worth noting that despite a stated dress code, not all guests seemed to follow it, which affected the upscale ambiance slightly.
Mesa is worth visiting for the views, the drinks, and the potential of the space—but manage your expectations when it comes to service.

Extremely poor service and zero communication. The place was hot and uncomfortable, and the steak had no flavour and was badly cooked. Overall a very bad experience.

Great, romantic restaurant with an amazing view. However, the service left much to be desired. I took my wife up there for a cocktail evening and we had amazing cocktails but we waited a very long time between being seated and being attended to. Waiters were flying past us like we didn’t exist. Once the drinks came it was quite enjoyable. Make sure not to go during peak times because you could end up waiting quite a bit.

We recently had lunch at Nu after it was recommended, the food, location, service and the cocktails especially were superb. Shout out to Theo and Samantha who served us and also took pictures for us. If ever back in Lille will definitely be going back to this restaurant.

We came here for lunch on weekend. Ample seating choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We tried a few starter plates and it was delicious. Server was friendly. We will come back and try their set menu on weekdays.

. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was also very chic and trendy, making it a great place to go for a special occasion.
I would definitely recommend Nū - Restaurant Bar Rooftop Lille to anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining experience.
Ali Bagheri★★★★★
NU is one of the best rooftop restaurants in Lille, and I’m so glad we managed to get a table for our anniversary dinner, even with a last-minute decision. Charlotte was incredibly sweet; when our main course arrived a bit late, she offered us a complimentary glass of champagne.
Adrien LEMAL★★★★☆
Went there with my partner to celebrate the new year eve.
Outstanding food and mariage with various wines. Exceptional service: very reactive and instructive. We loved hearing about the recipees. Great singers, dancers, costumes and background music. Beautiful Black and White atmosphere.
My partner and I had a wonderful time where we reflected on 2025 and envisionned 2026 with optimism.
For this special occasion, a few aspects to improve:
- White lights made it difficult to take great pictures.
- The casino rooms only had 2 games, which makes the overall experience a little costly
- Music places by DJ only electronic. Other genre would have been appreciated.
Otherwise, we go to this restaurant every two months to celebrate our achievements. Food is always amazing. Service is always personnalized and reactive.

Total scam, a 25cl glass of coke for €5 is a steal, even in Switzerland it doesn't cost that much!!! Avoid it, plus the waiter is unpleasant. I don't recommend this bar.
Ruchita Sharma★★★★☆
A charming terrace open out from a completely ordinary bar entrance of this bar in Old Lille. What is special is the calmness of the cathedral and non touristy feel for an apéro. Prices are fine, cocktails can be slightly non innovative though. Our tea came lukewarm a bit. But go for the terrasse.

Great terrace behind with views to the cathedral. Always that I'm in Lille I go for a beer there.
Rash Ka (The picky Indian)★★★★★
Love this bar. Haven't eaten a meal here yet. Maybe soon.
However, simply being able to sit at the terrace that's looking on to the Cathedral is lovely.
The staff is very friendly as well.
Fan★★★☆☆
Beautiful from the outside and beautiful inside. The terrace view is gorgeous but the terrace itself is pretty boring.
Face mask is obligated to walk to your table, but the terrace is packed with chairs and you are literally sitting less than 20 centimeters to strangers which is not acceptable in these times.
We came for a beer but it was really expensive. This and the fact that it was uncomfortable with so many people made us leave. What a pity.

This review comes from the bottom of my heart; I'm so disappointed by the behavior... I was really looking forward to this raclette dinner with my friends. Unfortunately, life had other plans (life, which I won't go into here), and I had to cancel my reservation that same day due to a (MISSIBLE) health issue.
I notified them by email the first time in the afternoon (3:47 PM) because I was IMPOSSIBLE to call. Then, once I was available, I contacted the hotel. I spoke with the "bar manager," who refused to listen to the reason for my cancellation. No empathy, no understanding. Her only response: charge my credit card a percentage of the menu for four people. And what about giving me time to find someone to take my reservation? Her response: "It's too late, it's in two hours, everything's ready." Everything's ready?! Everything is ready to take money from my account and offer the table to other customers. Unbelievable. Zero humanity. Money. Money. Money. No response will justify this behavior.

We stopped by for a drink before our dinner. Since it was my first time there, I expected the view to be a bit better, especially given the place’s name. It turned out to be a bit cramped and didn’t quite meet my expectations. The cocktails were average in taste and overpriced.

What a beautiful end to a lovely evening.
This is not all about the view (be aware it is in high demand).
This place is about cocktails and these guys are serious. An original selection of cocktails using original artisan spirits.
So good we had two cocktails.
Dominique the bar tender and the waiter (can't remember his name) were so helpful and the chat at the end with the explanations just contributed to the overall experience.
Highly recommend cocktails here with or without the view.
Mehdi Loubani★★★★★
Such a perfect spot! The guy who served us drinks kept checking up on us and asked if we liked the drinks or not. He’s such an amazing person shoutout to him and his amazing service. Keep up guys, i personally loved this spot and will always come back whenever im in france.

Came here for a quick drink after dinner. Nice and warm and lovely atmosphere. We sat down and a friendly staff member let us know there was a table around the corner by the window if we wished. So we moved there to have a view outside.
This is not high up enough to have a overview of the city. Some people made the comment that they expected more of a view. But this is called "Bar the View". So we read that as per the UK meaning (given we are from the UK), so we were fine. It is a 1st/2nd floor view.
Loved it. Great drinks. Will return.
Laura Charnley★★☆☆☆
Disappointing and not quite what we were expecting from this bar. We visited whilst staying at the hotel as we thought it would be a great location to enjoy a cocktail and food. However the bar is very dark with small windows and has a very low black gloss ceiling which makes it feel claustrophobic. The windows being so small make the view hard to see from anywhere but directly at a table in front of the windows making the whole place very dark. We ordered cocktails which were nice, however we also ordered a charcuterie board, but after an hour we hadn’t received our food and hadn’t been offered any further drinks so we asked for the bill and left. The staff member was apologetic and was surprised we hadn’t received our food. Seems we were completely forgotten about. We were glad to leave though with it being so dark inside, and instead we enjoyed the view, food and drinks at another restaurant in Grand Place which was much more enjoyable.

Great rooftop spot for views of the Belfry, the Grand Place, and the Voix du Nord newspaper building. Often full, so you have to try your luck and ask at the hotel reception as they don't take reservations. Nice menu of cocktails, wines, beers, and soft drinks. Impeccable service. Espresso €3.50. A must-do, I highly recommend it.

Stunning rooftop bar with a beautiful view of Lille from the 5th floor, featuring a terrace and bioclimatic pergola (Premium Fermetures). A wide selection of cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, is available.
Access is via the Hotel Bellevue entrance. Take the elevator to the 4th floor, then change elevators to the 5th floor, or take the stairs. The bar overlooks Lille's Grand Place.

Without a doubt, the best view of all the rooftop bars in Lille! They serve lovely cocktails and simple yet fresh and delicious dishes. The staff is fantastic, thank you for this experience!

Exceptional view, pleasant staff.
But you're clearly paying for the location; the food is quite basic and the portions are rather small.

Surely one of my favourite places in Lille. The owners, Pauline and Medhi, are very friendly. The food is excellent (special mention to the pastrami and the chicken sandos) and everything is homemade. There are a lot of options for drinks (coffee, matcha, and more), and they are all delicious (yes, I have tried them all!). I have also brought a few friends over, and they all enjoyed the place very much. 33 tours feels homely, and there is always good music to enjoy, whatever genre(s) you normally like. I can only recommend that you visit 33 tours if you are ever around!

A fantastic coworking space, a very pleasant work environment. The welcome is perfect, the staff are very helpful and attentive. There are plenty of areas to relax in, with everything you need available. Located right in the center of Lille and close to the train station. The rooftop is amazing!

I worked there for several months. The location is absolutely ideal, right in the heart of Lille, just a 5-minute walk from the train station.
The setting is magnificent! The decor is bold and sophisticated, and it works. It's well-equipped and modern. Different atmospheres on each floor... worth discovering. The best part: the rooftop terrace where you can enjoy the complimentary beer at the bar. No complaints about the services and facilities.
However, it can get a bit pricey in the long run, so it's best suited for occasional meetings. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, though 😉

Very disappointed by the brunch. It wasn't at all like the brunch at their sister restaurant. There was a fixed menu that didn't feel like brunch but rather lunch. It was almost all carbs, and not balanced at all, and furthermore not good. Stale toast, bland potatoes, yogurt, and a dry cake. For the price, there is much, much better in Lille! I guess you're paying for the atmosphere.
Peter Seatter★★★★★
This is such an amazing place and the food is outstanding from what I've experienced. I'm very happy that my friend brought me here to experience this amazing place.
The atmosphere was was so nice and fit in so well with having a very fall feel about it when I visited which just made this place feel so welcoming and the staff are extremely nice.
The pricing is very good and I don't have a problem paying what they asked since the quality was of a high standard and good portion.
I will be 100% coming back here again when I'm in France.

Great little boutique spot with a lovely, cozy atmosphere. I ordered the "Brie doudou," and the portion size of the cheese was very generous and filling. Priced at 14 € for the dish and 3.5 € for an Americano, the value for money is quite good. However, there are two things that could be improved: first, a fried or poached egg would complement the dish much better than a hard-boiled one; second, the knife provided was too blunt for the toasted bread—a sharp steak knife is definitely needed to cut through the crust properly. Overall, a delicious experience in a charming location!

Our lunch here was made so special because of the excellent waiter, Ricardo! His service was outstanding! We hadn’t booked but he found us a table but as the restaurant was very busy the only table was in the sun but as soon as another table became free he ushered us over to it to make us more comfortable. He is so good at his job, we really did appreciate it and had a lovely lunch there! My starter of gravlax was so beautifully presented and delicious!

This has been the best experience of my life. The waitress, Athenais, has been super friendly. Ruben has made incredible wine recommendations. The chef, Geofrey, has made the best burger I have ever had in my whole life! I also had pork pâté as a starter, and the caramelised onion won a special place in my heart! I will come back to France just to eat here again!
Jeff Gilliam★★★★☆
Excellent location and food, marred by lacklustre service and a lonnnnnng wait for food. We had to keep asking staff for more drinks and when we asked why the food was delayed we were told "the kitchen is busy". That's fine - but the 4x larger tables around us sat down after us, ordered after us, but we're all served well before our smaller table of three! Such a shame - as the food was deffo worth the wait in the end! Some basic staff training (watch the tables, take drink orders promptly and communicate delays from the kitchen) and a review of how the food is 'prioritised' would easily fix this issue. It's still worth a visit, though.

Food was nothing special. The children's chicken was very overcooked and dry and they barely ate it. Chicken ceaser salad and salmon tartare where ok. Best dish was the terrine starter.

I love brique house but for the second time in a row, the food we order is just not good, even though the price is quite high. To squeeze 7 people into one table while literally 10 tables around us were free 🤷🏻♀️.
Also the security guy downstairs is not nice, doesn’t say hello, barely responds, and he even stalked my friend on Facebook. Creepy!
Tips for Choosing the Right Rooftop Café
To make the most of your time in Lille, it helps to understand the local rhythm. Rooftop culture here is heavily influenced by the weather and the time of day, so a little planning goes a long way. The following tips will help you secure the best seat in the house and avoid common disappointments.
Check the Weather and the "Terrace Status" First
Lille weather can be unpredictable, even in the summer. Many rooftop spaces are seasonal or may close their upper decks at the first sign of rain. Always check the venue’s social media or call ahead to confirm the roof is open before you make the trek across town.
Book Ahead for Weekend Brunch
The concept of le brunch is taken very seriously in Lille, and rooftop tables are prime real estate. If you are planning to visit on a Saturday or Sunday, especially between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, a reservation is almost mandatory. Walk-ins often face long waits or are turned away entirely.
Understand the "Café" Transition Time
Many of these venues operate as a coffee shop during the afternoon but transition into a cocktail bar or restaurant in the evening. If you are looking for a quiet laptop-friendly environment, aim for the mid-afternoon lull between 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM. Arriving after 6:00 PM often means a louder, more festive atmosphere with table service for drinks rather than coffee.
Look for the "Hidden" Entrances
Unlike traditional street-level cafés, rooftop venues in Lille are often located inside hotels, department stores, or cultural centers. The entrance is rarely obvious. Look for discreet signage in hotel lobbies or dedicated elevators at the back of a building. Don’t be afraid to ask a concierge or security guard for directions to the toit-terrasse.
Prioritize Sunset over Midday Sun
While a sunny lunch is lovely, the golden hour is when these spaces truly shine. The way the light hits the chimneys and the Opera House is spectacular. Plan to arrive about 45 minutes before sunset to secure a spot with a view, as this is the most competitive time to get a table.
Lille’s rooftop scene offers a refreshing counterpoint to the city’s historic ground-floor brasseries. It is a chance to feel the breeze, hear the city hum below, and appreciate the architectural harmony of the North from a bird’s-eye view.
Whether you are a local looking for a new haunt or a traveler seeking the perfect photo, these elevated spaces provide a memorable experience. So, take the elevator up, order a local craft beer or a perfectly pulled espresso, and enjoy Lille from the top down.
