San Sebastián’s La Concha Beach is widely considered one of the most beautiful urban beaches in Europe. With its calm, clear waters and iconic bay views, it draws travelers who want the perfect mix of city culture and seaside relaxation. Staying nearby means you can walk from your hotel to the sand in minutes, then easily explore the Old Town’s pintxo bars in the evening.
The area surrounding La Concha offers a wide range of accommodation, from grand belle époque landmarks to modern boutique stays and family-friendly apartments. Whether you are visiting for a romantic weekend, a surf trip, or a food-focused getaway, the right hotel can shape your entire experience. Location, views, and access to local transport all matter when choosing where to stay.
Because San Sebastián is compact and walkable, staying near the beach does not mean sacrificing access to the city’s cultural highlights. You can wake up to a sea view, enjoy a morning swim, and still be within a short stroll of the Cathedral, Constitution Square, or the bustling Gros neighborhood. The best hotels in this area balance coastal calm with urban convenience.
Many travelers assume that staying directly on the promenade is the only way to enjoy La Concha. In reality, some of the most charming and best-value options are tucked into quiet side streets just a few minutes from the sand. These properties often offer more space, better rates, and a more local atmosphere than the large beachfront hotels.
When reviewing the top places to stay, I focused on properties that consistently deliver excellent service, comfortable rooms, and genuine Basque character. I considered factors such as proximity to the beach, guest reviews, on-site amenities, and overall value. The goal is to help you find a hotel that matches your travel style, whether that means luxury, design, or practical comfort.
San Sebastián has a mild climate, but the best months for beach stays are late spring through early autumn. Booking well in advance is essential for July and August, when the city fills with visitors for Semana Grande and the peak summer season. Even in the shoulder months of May, June, and September, the beach remains a central part of the local lifestyle.
Below you will find a curated list of the best hotels near La Concha Beach. Each recommendation is chosen for its quality, location, and ability to enhance your stay in this beautiful Basque coastal city.

Overall a great Central location, near the main beach. 10.mins walk from the bus station and the old town.
Hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. Facilities simple with everything you need including a very basic gym. Only negative is it's close to a road and the French doors in room 115 didn't close properly, so we could hear traffic from 5am. It's not a main road but there were enough deliveries to disturb us.

Good hotel with amazing location! We stayed here with our dog and all the staff was lovely towards our dog. He even got a small present (water bowl and poop bags). The only downside was being placed in the room right in front of the elevator, it is not easy to be in the nosiest room as dogs can be very sensitive to outside noises.

Small but comfortable room. Please Please buy a couple of dollar, botton of glass shower door water stopper. The floor is pealing and cracking , growing mold due to constant water. Which flowes freely from the shower. We had a pool of water after every shower that soaked the floor no matter what we did. Why ruin your floors over a quick cheap fix job.

Room was rather small. A bit noisy especially on bin day! Good location for visiting the town and beach. Parking was €25 a night so that was a bit of a drawback. Excellent breakfast for the money. Cannot fault the staff. Very pleasant and helpful

If you were to google "basic hotel" this is what would appear. A room with 2 twin beds, 2 pillow, 2 sets of towels, chair and table. That's it! The location is ideal, but the amenities are sparse. When I asked about or a kettle or coffee pot it was a "no", Kleenex and it was a "no", shampoo/conditioner "no". Pretty much anything you ask for except the items listed above is a "no". The hotel has an amazing view and is clean, but it is very old and really a 2-star hotel. The staff of the hotel are very nice. This was definitely the worst bed I have slept on in about 25 years, it is more like an old military cot. The breakfast is extremely average...save your money and go out to breakfast.

What a beautiful hotel with romantic views !
This cute little hotel gets everything right .
I was lucky enough to have a room with a balcony and majestic view of the La Concha beach , absolutely breathtaking.
The staff is also very hospitable . The small restaurant also gets everything right , they do not have a huge selection but it’s does the job.
The location is also very convenient.
This hotel has the most beautiful elevator in the world .

Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff are so lovely and welcoming. Very pretty rooms - lovely spotless bathroom - we didn't have a sea view but there are sea view rooms available. Water left in the room every day. Enjoyed the sea view for breakfast. I would definitely recommend

The location is unbeatable, the breakfast is limited and the beds are very, very hard. If they haven’t replaced the beds, we will stay elsewhere next year.

Excellent stay here during Donostia Cup! The front desk, especially in the morning and daytime, is staffed with very helpful and thoughtful staff. Pool area is really lovely and can accommodate many guests. Refreshments and snacks at the pool! Rooms great, bed linens so comfortable. And the water pressure and temps were excellent! Loved my room with a balcony.

This was a large modern hotel within walking distance to the coast. The reception area is very airy , with cool water available . Staff are lovely. Breakfast room is huge with a large selection of fresh foods and drinks. Omelets and eggs made fresh to your liking. I didn’t use the outdoor pool but it looked really nice . In the evening you could sit at the front of the hotel which was nice. There was a lovely atmosphere in this hotel. My other family members used the gym facilities, which they described as big , airy and very modern. There was a small fee to be paid to use. This hotel was great value and I would highly recommend. We stay in early June.

Our stay at the Barceló Costa Vasca was great and we would recommend this hotel. The hotel itself is clean and well located outside of the old town. The rooms are well sized with good facilities. There are a number of restaurants and cafes within a 10 minute walk and the hotel is also close to the beach.
We particularly enjoyed the range at breakfast - lots of fresh food both hot and cold options. Great coffee! The staff at breakfast were so helpful and friendly. Shout out to Ruben who took good care of us and our baby! Thanks to all at the hotel for making our stay so memorable!

From arrival, friendly staff. Rooms clean well fitted, comfy beds. breakfast good choices, inside and outside seating. Pool area small with a cafe, large pool well maintained. Getting into town on bus 16 easy, stop on opposite side of street. On hotel side takes you to funicular. Walking if you cut up the stairs past the Palace ten minutes.

Stayed at this hotel for a week while visiting San Sebastian. The room, service and location were all exceptional. A short walk from the beach and several restaurants. You can access an amazing gym and wellness area for $10 Euros/day which I highly recommend. The breakfast has everything you could want at an additional charge but the food is fresh and has a wide variety of options. Highly recommend this place for your stay.

Modern hotel, great sound insulation and fabulous bed. Super friendly and extremely helpful staff. Two negative things..shower was hot and cold throughout our stay and the rooms, whilst lovely was style over function. Two tiny draws plus open wardrobe was pretty poor. Overall, loved our time there.

Our stay at Axel Hotel San Sebastián was nothing short of unforgettable. From the very moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Isaac, whose kindness, genuine warmth, and attentiveness immediately set the tone for our honeymoon. He didn’t just help us check in—he made us feel truly cared for.
Walking into our room felt like stepping into a celebration created just for us. Champagne, chocolates, handwritten notes, and balloons were waiting to surprise us, and it was such a thoughtful, personal touch that made our honeymoon feel incredibly special.
The room itself was spacious, immaculate, and beautifully maintained. The air was refreshingly cool, the room spotless, and every detail felt intentional and luxurious. The hotel’s location is also ideal—peacefully just off the beaten path, yet close enough to enjoy everything San Sebastián has to offer.
As a straight couple, we were struck by how welcoming and inclusive the atmosphere was. Axel Hotel truly lives its message: everyone is welcome here. We loved feeling embraced as part of a broader, open-hearted community, and it made our stay even more meaningful.
This hotel didn’t just give us a place to stay—it gave us memories we’ll carry with us forever. We can’t recommend it highly enough and already can’t wait to return.

The location is excellent, conveniently situated near the bus station, La Concha, and the old town. The breakfast offered a superb selection with numerous options, and the chef was consistently present to ensure everything was satisfactory. The wellness center was beautiful, featuring a constantly available and very relaxing jacuzzi. All members of staff were genuinely friendly, and a special thank you is extended to Isidro for consistently attending to the guests' needs.

Fantastic hotel. I have nothing but good things to say. The staff is fantastic, the breakfast is bountiful and delicious + they offer a different variety daily. The pool on the roof has free Cava in the afternoon and the spa below does its job. The weight room is more than ample for a hotel gym. The rooms are very clean and well maintained.

Axel Hotel in San Sebastián was such a pleasant surprise. The bed was next‑level comfortable, genuinely cloud‑like—I didn’t want to get up in the morning. The room was spacious, cozy, and perfect for relaxing after exploring. The location couldn’t be better, with an easy walk straight into the Old Town. The reception team were warm, friendly, and made the whole stay feel effortless. I’d absolutely recommend this hotel.

Our two-night stay at the Orly Hotel was absolutely wonderful. We brought our mini Goldendoodle along, and were happy to find dog treats and wipes waiting in the room when we arrived. Such a thoughtful touch! The hotel was incredibly dog-friendly, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The location was also perfect. We highly recommend it!

Stay away! I don’t understand some of the positive reviews. The lobby has no style. I included some pics of the actual condition of the hotel room. Mold in the bathroom, cheap and worn out decoration, broken off and hanging closet door, small room. Not even the view made up for it. I can’t and I don’t even want to imagine how the more moderately priced rooms look like. What a disappointment!
Suzanne Bates★★★★☆
Tip: Ask for sea view on the highest floor possible.
For the great location and the size and quality of rooms, the reasonable price makes this one of the best value hotels in San Sebastián. We didn’t ask for views, but ended up with two rooms on the 4th floor, one overlooking the sea and the other looking over the old town.
The sea view is incredible and the entire outer wall is window so that you can marvel from anywhere in the room. You can open the windows to hear the waves crashing against the shore.
There is secure underground parking.
Note that there is no room service, but honestly you don’t need it in this city, you should really head out enjoy all the food in as many different places as possible.
Most importantly, I found the staff here incredible. My father hurt his leg during our travels on the day we arrived and the reception staff and even workmen helped almost carry him in from the entrance. Staff went out of their way to help us.
When I asked to extend our stay by a day, the receptionist gave me a good tip to get the best price possible.
I’m so grateful for their hospitality - it would have been very difficult for us to enjoy the trip otherwise.
I’ll be back - next time without the drama!

Had a 4 night stay here and was upgraded from a standard room to a superior one, which included tea and coffee facilities. Had a view over nearby buildings to the beach. Staff were very polite and helpful, we added the breakfasts for €16 each per day, which we felt was well worth it. The room was sparsely furnished, only one chair and the bedside tables were just tables, no drawers for storage and the wardrobe was small with limited space, so we had to keep things in our suitcases. Location was good, situated one street back from the centre of the bay. Restaurant only provides breakfast and a limited room service, mainly pizza.

Stayed here for 3 nights in Junior Suite with Terrace.
The hotel location is great, very close to La Concha beach and a short walk to Old Town. Staff were very friendly and conscientious. The parking is super convenient.
The room was tidy, clean, and a great layout. We were travelling with toddler and found the suite layout + terrace + large bathroom allows plenty of flexibility to stay up and enjoy the space after your child has gone to sleep.

Splendid setting. Close to middle of La Concha beach and very walkable for Pintxos crawling. Area was quiet and safe.
Room was a great size and comfortable with good amenities. Bright, clean and simple style.
Breakfast was consistent and good mix of continental style. Most likely something for everyone.
Bar setting in the old convent is nicely styled out with a good range of drinks available.
All staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Pros:
- Breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of food and tea. There weren't many vegetables, but that's quite common in the region.
- A complimentary welcome cider was provided in the room.
- The hotel is conveniently located close to the bay and the city center.
- There is a rooftop pool with a nice view.
Cons:
- The triple room has an unusual layout. The second bed is placed under the TV along the wall, so you have to bend down every time you walk past it.
- The bathroom has no lock, which may be inconvenient for some guests.
- For some reason, after room service, the trash was left in a bag inside our room instead of being taken away.

A heartfelt thank you to David Sanchez, Nerea Manzano, and their outstanding team for taking such excellent care of us at this beautiful hotel. The building’s historic convent origins add to its charm. They resolved a booking issue we encountered as a mistake of ours which had temporarily caused date confusions. A superb hotel with a remarkable team. Thank you, and Grazie Robert and Jennifer

At nearly €340 per night, I found it impossible to justify the price of this hotel. Apart from its excellent location, there is very little that would support such a premium rate.
The hotel itself is quite average, with no real sense of luxury, exclusivity, or attention to detail that one would expect at this price point. The rooms and facilities were functional but unremarkable, and nothing about the overall experience felt special or memorable.
In the end, the location is the hotel’s main asset. Beyond that, there was nothing particularly impressive or exciting to warrant the cost.

This is a great place If you want to enjoy the view and you want to stay close to the La Concha beache. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the cleaning service very helpful. They have a concierge there as well. I think the staff could be more helpful during check-in. They should share and tell more about possibilities like spending time at the beach, giving some recommendations etc. Or just to tell to speak to the concierge.
Their Internet is very fast.
I think they know they have a perfect location and they don't need to try to wow their guests more.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra during our recent visit to San Sebastián.
The hotel itself is beautiful, with a fantastic location and lovely views. Our room was excellent — clean, comfortable and very well appointed, with a particularly impressive bathroom. The newly renovated dining and bar areas are also beautifully done, and we really enjoyed having pre-dinner mocktails there as well as lunch on our final day.
The breakfast buffet was very well put together and was perfect for our stay, with a great selection and a lovely omelette station.
What really stood out, though, was the warmth and professionalism of the team. Leire on the concierge desk was excellent. She took the time to talk us through the best places to visit, how to get there, and gave us some fantastic recommendations which really helped us make the most of our time in the city.
Olatz on reception was also incredibly warm and welcoming. She always greeted us with a smile and a wave, which made us feel genuinely looked after throughout our stay.
Overall, this is a hotel that manages to combine elegance, comfort and excellent service without feeling impersonal. Whatever the team are doing behind the scenes, it is clearly working. We would happily return and would recommend it to anyone visiting San Sebastián.

Staff is on it no matter who you talk to. Beach towels, food, rec's, and whatever else you need. Fridge gets restocked every day as well. Views are gorgeous i recommend getting beach view all day every day. The actual beach is about a 60second walk from your room. I also like personally how the bathrooms are apart from the room. Most the places I've been in Europe they're kind of part of the bedroom. Always nice to have separation when taking a deuce

My mother and I had a wonderful experience staying here.
Fabulous location and easy to walk around the old town and the commercial shopping district.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The concierge,Celeste, was particularly accommodating with all of our questions as to where to eat and gave us some wonderful recommendations.
Ali, at reception was also very helpful with giving local knowledge of busses, trains & taxis.
The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and clean with wonderful view of the ocean and the city.
In our opinion this would be the best hotel to stay in San Sebastián!!

This IS the place to stay location wise. It can't be bettered! The hotel is beautifully done out without losing its character. Still has one of the original lifts. The view from the balcony is amazing...really worth paying extra for the sea view. Very clean and ladies...they have a decent magnifying mirror in the bathroom. Aircon. Staff in bar friendly and efficient. Didn't eat here. Staff on check-in didn't give us any low down on the hotel amenities or show us to the room. I suppose they expect us to find info on our phones these days...but still friendly and helpful! I would definitely stay here if I came again!

If this was cheaper it would be an excellent hostel.
Good location in city centre. Staff very accommodating - there’s a place to leave your luggage after you check out, you can shower and use the bathrooms too. There’s a roof terrace where you can eat or have a drink kn tbe evening which is nice, and there is a communal fridge with microwave and plates etc for you to prepare your own food.
We were on the 3rd floor in private room (bunk beds) with shared bathroom. Room has slippers, soaps, towel and ear plugs provided as well as a bottle of water. Bunk beds very squeaky and not attached to the wall so they could be a bit dangerous if a heavier person is climbing up.
Bathrooms seem more modern on the lower floors. The women’s bathroom on 3rd floor seems quite old and dated. The showers are tiny and you are being attacked by the curtain constantly. I’d recommend bringing flip flops. The toilets are clean though and there is always soap, paper and towels available.
LeFlâneur★★★★☆
Good value, clean space, convenient location, but next to no social scene. The common area felt like a visit to my grandmother's house.
Roughly 15-minute (pleasant) walk from the old town, and same again from the nearest train station.

I stayed in a 6 person room and it felt big enough (unless multiple people are trying to pack at the same time). The room/hostel key is a bracelet that also locks & unlocks your locker which is convenient to only have one thing to hold onto. When my locker had an issue, I went to the front desk and they fixed it immediately. The kitchen is just a microwave, but there’s decent eating options around the hostel. The showers were pretty neat for a hostel— you can hang up your clothes/towel inside without getting them wet. You do have to turn on the faucet every 20 ish seconds because it’s “eco-smart.” I personally didn’t have any issues with the cleanliness (shared spaces get less clean as people use them, but that’s true in all hostels) but if you’re a very clean person, the bathroom might bother you. There was what looked like mold around one of the sinks that was there before and after the cleaning staff was in there.
A huge plus for me was the location. Super quick walk to the beach, decent amount of food options, and quite close to the train/bus station.

Great place in handy location. Sturdy built-in bunks with power and locker underneath. Comfortable common areas including a roof terrace. Useful guest kitchen. Google rejected my review 3 times so this is 4th edit with reduced praise.

Guy at reception was so annoying and always crashing out. Made the minimum amount of noise and he was fuming. Felt like I was on a school camp with teachers watching after me. The rooms were also boiling, no aircon or anything, wouldn’t even give us another fan or accommodate for us, serious disgrace. Do not book this place for your own sake.

We had an overall very good stay at Hotel Catalonia Donosti. The hotel itself feels a little dated in some areas, but it has some great features. The rooftop is definitely a highlight, with a lovely swimming pool, a nice bar and beautiful views from the top of the hill. The lift that takes you directly down towards the city is extremely convenient, and the location is very central for exploring San Sebastián.
Unfortunately, we did have an issue with the hygiene of our room. The staff immediately offered us another room, which we declined as we only had one night left. What really impressed us was how they handled the situation afterwards. They compensated us with a complimentary massage and breakfast, which was an exceptionally thoughtful gesture.
Problems can happen in any hotel, but how they are resolved says a lot about the level of service. In this case, the customer service was outstanding. The staff took our concern seriously, responded immediately and really made an effort to make things right.
A special compliment to the team for handling the situation so professionally. The rooftop, views, central location and especially the excellent customer service made our stay a positive experience despite the issue with the room.

Our second time staying here and would happily return. Pros: very large comfortable rooms, excellent showers, the blackout curtains that keep your room dark, the rooftop pool/bar area. Efficient housekeeping services.
Cons: pool area is small and can get crowded during busy times. Pool is small and not suitable for children playing there shouldn't be children allowed at the pool. I've never used the sauna/steam room as I don't wish to pay extra for these services.
Location is good - not the best in San Sebastian but a 10 min walk to the bus station. Concha Beach is a short walk.
Melanie Ashdown★★★★★
Great location, amazing breakfast options, great room (suite), quiet at nighttime. Nice little gym, great library area for working and reading. Pet friendly too so next time we may bring our dog. Walking distance 10 mins to beach and shopping and about 25 mins walk to the other beach with bigger waves. About 15 mins walk into the old town for excellent Pinto’s. Good and tough morning walk up the hill and around the castle (1 hour). Good morning breakfast service from Mbark- thank you!
Marcus Mamo★★★☆☆
We stayed here for our honeymoon, and while the room itself was clean and nicely presented, the overall experience was extremely disappointing.
Be very careful with the pricing — the initial room rate is misleading. Once you arrive, you’re hit with constant extra charges: €25 per night for a dog, €25 per night for parking, €20 per person per day for breakfast, and an unbelievable €20 per hour just to use the spa. It quickly adds up and feels excessive.
They advertise themselves as dog-friendly, but in reality that just seems to mean they’re happy to charge you extra. There’s no actual warmth or accommodation for dogs once you’re inside — quite the opposite.
What made things worse was the lack of flexibility or understanding. After paying extra for our dog, we weren’t even allowed into the bar or restaurant areas with it. On a very rainy day, this meant we were essentially stuck in our room or the library area, and the hotel showed no concern at all.
To top it off, this was our honeymoon — and unlike many other places we’ve stayed, there was absolutely no acknowledgment or effort to make it feel special.
Overall, the hotel seems far more focused on charging guests at every opportunity than actually providing a warm or welcoming experience. There’s no sense of hospitality here — just a constant push to take more money.

Great 4 star Hotel, perfectly located for stroling around San Sebastian. Very clean!Private and Public lift convenient for access height of Hotel, that overlooks the whole town. Room Top bar and pool are a nice add on. Fine to areas to chill in between outings. Spa is a good small Spa. Massage was very good. Gym did the trick to keep basic habits going while away. Breakfast was on point, the egg man was good (I have see bad egg men). This is 4 star service people, great service! Nice staff! Would happily stay again and recommend. Super accommodating. So so central and very grateful for them putting 3 in a room. Bit cramped for 3 but that was our cases but grateful nonetheless. I’d say was great double room with a view of the square and not noisy at all. Family friendly!

Hey, it all depends on what you're looking for. If you need the 5 star Ritz Carlton, look elsewhere. For travelers like me who mostly need a clean dwelling, their own shower/ bathroom, comfortable bed, and just enough space, then this is perfect. Had a great room overlooking the town square. I assume if one of your neighbors is noisy that could be a problem, but that's anywhere. For the price, this is probably the best value in all of Spain. Highly recommend.

We just had the most wonderful three night stay! The location is excellent! The service is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable and pet friendly. We stayed with our two small dogs. Very close to the beaches and there are plenty of options for great food and shops close to the hotel.
We will be staying again the next time we are in San Sebastián.
Tips for Choosing the Best Hotel Near La Concha Beach
Selecting the right hotel involves more than just picking the closest property to the sand. Your travel priorities, budget, and preferred atmosphere should guide your decision. The following tips will help you narrow down the options and avoid common booking mistakes in San Sebastián.
Book early for summer and festival dates. San Sebastián is a compact city with high demand, especially during July, August, and the San Sebastián International Film Festival in September. Beachfront and boutique hotels sell out months in advance. Secure your room as soon as your dates are confirmed to get the best combination of price and location.
Decide between a sea view and a city view. Rooms with direct views of La Concha Bay come at a premium, often 30–50% more than inward-facing rooms. If you plan to spend most of your day exploring or on the beach, a city or courtyard view can save you money without sacrificing comfort. Consider how much time you will actually spend in your room.
Check for parking before you arrive. Driving in central San Sebastián can be challenging, and not all hotels near La Concha offer on-site parking. If you are arriving by car, confirm whether the hotel has a garage, valet service, or a partnership with a nearby public car park. Some streets in the area are restricted to residents only.
Think about noise levels. Hotels directly on the seafront promenade can be lively, especially on summer evenings and weekends. If you are a light sleeper, look for a property on a quieter side street or request a room facing away from the main road. High floors with double glazing also help reduce street noise.
Look for breakfast and dining flexibility. Many hotels near La Concha include breakfast, but San Sebastián is famous for its pintxos culture. You may prefer to skip a heavy hotel breakfast and eat like a local at nearby cafés and bars. Choose a hotel with flexible dining options or a room with a small kitchenette if you want more control over meals.
Prioritize walkability over beachfront status. A hotel five to eight minutes from the sand can offer better value and a more authentic neighborhood feel than a beachfront property. San Sebastián is highly walkable, so a short stroll to the beach often comes with the benefit of quieter surroundings and lower nightly rates.
Choosing the right base near La Concha can make your visit to San Sebastián feel effortless. Whether you want to step directly onto the sand or prefer a quiet retreat a few streets back, the area offers something for every type of traveler. Take time to match your hotel choice with how you plan to spend your days, and you will leave with a deeper appreciation for this elegant Basque seaside city.
